This was such a small moment but I liked this interaction between Amethio and Friede. Amethio wondering what the move Rayquaza used was, and Friede casually telling him the move's name.
It shows that Amethio still has a lot to learn and in this moment, he admitted that he didn't know something, and Friede offered him an answer, teaching him and willing to tell him about things he doesn't know.

giggling and kicking my feet thinking about jack having to put up with buckbucky who are his very best friends and also the biggest pains in the ass
Oh, god, he loves them with his entire heart.
But jesus fucking christ they fucking tricked him into it they did. Early on, they seemed similar to him: serious, devoted, hard-working. And the thing is, they are definitely devoted and hard-working.
But.
Oh, god they're not serious at all.
Of the two of them, Jack is way more mad at Buck about that one. Because Bucky showed his complete lack of fucks about two days in, and Jack thought, "Well, okay, he's still a great person, and with Cleven to help me maybe we can--"
And that's when Buck's full chaos demon persona showed itself.
Like, you have to understand. Buck really, truly, is mature and together.
But he also ISN'T when it feels safe. And Bucky is so fucking safe. Bucky drunk sings and tells silly stories and occasionally, he wants to fight, but only if someone else really goads him. And even then it's one pop to the mouth, and he's done. Even if he has to go for a second punch, it's not from malice. Curt getting into their orbit fixes this problem. Curt ALWAYS one hits and he fixes Bucky's form.
But. Like. Imagine you're Jack Kidd. And you thought these idiots were trustworthy. And they AREN'T. But you still love them. And then they show up with Curt like a puppy they found.
God, he loves them to the absolute marrow of his bones, but he is gonna murder them with his own fucking hands.

Character Focus: Derivan!
Tumblr media
artist is zoanluen on Twitter!
Oh man, Derivan.
I mean, his character concept was kind of what started this whole thing, right? I like monsters - if the tags on some of my other posts haven't made it obvious - and 'living armor' pushes a lot of buttons for me. There's a lot in the idea of being othered that resonates with the queer experience, and Derivan embodies a lot of that in a lot of ways by being, uh, a suit of armor that's afraid to let other people know that he's a suit of armor?
(It turns out they knew all along. Not completely, but they figured something was up, considering he never took off his helmet. 0 of his friends were surprised when it was eventually revealed.)
Derivan spent most of his formative years in a dungeon (the video game equivalent of a dungeon, as in a 'challenging location', not someone's basement), so he's very fascinated by the world at large - which explains a lot of his connection to Vex, who loves explaining just about everything in too much detail. Unlike most people who talk to Vex, Derivan sits and listens to every word attentively.
What's sort of funny is that a lot of people assume he's ace? I do have an ace character, but that's Sev. Derivan is demisexual. I leave further thoughts on this as an exercise to the reader. (Or you can respond to this post with theories.)
Derivan represents an outside-context problem for the system in the world of Edge Cases. He's essentially an embodiment of an issue I often find in video games - that video games will often designate 'monster races' that are all enemies, despite several of them being very clearly sapient. He's meant to be commentary on that aspect of the reductiveness of video game logic, so to speak.
He's very formal and thoughtful, he uses the lights in his helmet to express most of his emotions, and is otherwise protective of his friends, who were the first people to accept him. Found family vibes baybeeeeee
For those not familiar, Derivan is from my book, The Fabric of Reality.

First ever tumblr post, ooh I'm currently in the middle of analyzing/taking notes on all of the 'alien' related things in Lilo and Stitch, and I figured I could start posting my rough drafts here before everything goes into powerpoint form. Since I organized the notes by character, we're starting off with my favorite silly guy: Gantu :3 Movie 1 (Lilo and Stitch): -Just wants to prove himself worth to the Grand Councilwoman, this poor man -'Does this, uh, look infected to you?' I'll be touching back on this with more evidence later, but I'm convinced that he's very focused on being clean/sanitary -His name is pronounced in 2 different ways; G-aun-tu and G-an-tu (though the correct pronunciation is G-an-tu) -He was retired from his job, not fired Movie 2 (Stitch! The Movie): -unlike when he was working for the Grand Councilwoman, there is a CLEAR distaste for Hämsterviel, and I feel like he's only there because he needs somebody to be loyal to/get approval from -From here on out, he is CONSTANTLY using 'trog' as an insult (mentioned in the 1st movie as a negative term) -When going to collect Jumba, he gets the door slammed in his face, THEN he rings the doorbell, how polite! -Gets called fat by Stitch, and UNDERSTANDS IT. He CAN speak the same language! -When he activates hyperdrive, he goes 'My turn this time!' indicating that he remembers what Stitch did in the 1st movie -The amount of NASTY eye brow raises and glares he gives Hämsterviel is insane, which further proves my point that he's just there for a job -Doesn't like bologna because it's too fatty, THIS MAN IS BODY CONCIOUS -He keeps apologizing for things. When he interrupts Jumba's joke, gets told he's messing with the punchline, he apologizes. Then, when Hämsterviel yells at him to stop apologizing for things, HE SAYS SORRY AGAIN -Egg salad enjoyer (real) TV Series (Lilo and Stitch: The Series): -Always, ALWAYS bothered with Hämsterviel calls, there's never a time where he's actually willing to go out to catch experiments -'I hate sticky!' and 'That can't be sanitary..' circles back to my point; HE LIKES BEING CLEAN -refers to his mother as 'mumu' -accidentally calls himself Captain, then corrects himself by adding 'formerly' right after -He can hula! He actively ignores Hämsterviel when he calls so he can keep having fun with his silly hobby -'I'm taking your tiny raviolis!' you think he's sick of sandwiches guys -Reuben called him daddykins and babe. Do with that what you will -HE LOOKS LIKE A WET CAT WHEN HE GETS YELLED AT -'San Francisco? Oh, double blitznak..' the writers really don't like San Francisco, and neither does Gantu -Going back to the point that he doesn't really want to work for Hämsterviel, he tries to talk himself out of going out in the rain to hunt an experiment; 'He doesn't need one little experiment,' 'how would he even know?' etc, etc.. -'As you say, aloha' is said while leaving, which means that he knows that 'aloha' can be used for a greeting and parting word That's all I've got so far, but I figured posting something would be fun :3

STRIKER CHARACTER NOTES: COMPARE AND CONTRAST
I noticed a lot, and I mean a LOT of character differences in Striker in this newest episode (not just his voice actor!) so I decided to watch both Striker episodes back to back and write out all of the traits and notes of character that can be seen in both episodes. Let’s begin! Season One Episode Five -Originally inspired by Rattlesnake Jake from Rango -Meant to bring a strong, imposing aura -Design is meant to be a blend of Moxxie and Blitz originally, took on other characteristics to be a hybrid over time during design phase -Can be casual, polite, and charismatic -Good at listening, and highlighting what gives others ego boosts through compliments (can be used for manipulation later on) -Social, but doesn't talk that much. Seems to prefer being in the background to read and observe people and only speaks up to challenge Moxxie -Raspy, dark voice but big range. Can have a higher pitch while being casual and friendly, but gets lower in pitch and tone when he's being threatening -Not afraid to step up and show off, but knows how to balance it with skills to back it up -Athletic, but knows how to restrain himself to keep face (via always being able to keep a smile on his face and only grunting from exertion) -Enjoys attention, but doesn't enjoy his personal space being evaded (interesting considering how he confronts both Moxxie and Blitz later on in the episode) -Isn't afraid to physically assault people to obtain his personal space -Isn't afraid to call people out, even while showing off -Smart and knows how to take steps to do his job silently, but effectively -Sadistic, and enjoys playing the waiting game -Durable, can take multiple stab wounds and smile through it -Enjoys degrading and emotionally putting others down -Morally ambiguous, but great at reading people and using their own morals and thoughts against them -Hates rich people, and likes to favor himself as better then other imps by nature based on his physical strengths and attributes -Not afraid of making alliances, and respects others who show the same level of strength as him -Has the ability to recover quickly, but tends to rely on his words to fight when he can't physically -Much like actual snakes, Striker is slippery and knows when to run away when he loses the upper hand -Knows how to be respectful and polite to rich higher ups, further showing his charisma and ability to put up a front despite his internal beliefs -Is confident in his own abilities, but is fine with staying in the shadows as he waits for his next opportunity to strike (very similar to how a snake hunts in real life)
Season Two Episode Four -Good at waiting for the right opportunity (or just has good timing) -Good at stealth with his poncho -Good aim, good at avoiding shooting the wrong person/people and focuses on his target primarily -Still good at listening, but gets more openly annoyed while listening -Gets impatient, and snaps far more easily -Loves and respects wild west tropes -Doesn't enjoy attention, and possibly doesn't enjoy his own theme song -Seems to live in a old mining cave with old train tracks -Enjoys doing stunts and tricks with his horse, and seems to trust his horse fully to do the jumps needed. Possibly great at training horses -Most likely sees himself as a outlaw (which would explain a lot tbh) -Still enjoys the waiting game like in episode five -Takes time to decorate and use décor for his home, but seems to prefer a more simplistic design. Could possibly be because he can't afford that much furniture, and seems to prioritize getting décor that provides a liking to his own image -Has a train track rock wall of sorts dedicated to killing people on, as referenced by the giant ass sign that he got attached to it -Has a soft spot for old tropes and clichés, and seems to prefer to live under that aesthetic for his own pleasure -Enjoys getting things that can boost his own self image and ego, but still uses them for more practical things, like using his own statue as a coat/hat hanger -Easily annoyed and seemingly hurt by insults and negative comments on his living style -Seems to have a hatred for richer folks because they took something away from him -May feel the need to 'have' to live like he does because of his personal money issues -Still very sadistic -Doesn't seem to enjoy when others either don't react or enjoy when he's trying to be sadisitc -Doesn't seem to enjoy that he's having to work for Stella in order to get money -Seems to genuinely hate Stolas -Also seems to genuinely hate being compared to Blitz -Even when angry, he prefers to slip away instead of actually losing his temper at his captor -Becomes more like himself when he strikes a nerve with Stolas, relishing in his reactions -Recalls and obtains information from listening in on the phone call, much like he was shown doing in episode five, and uses the information against Stolas as a manipulation tactic -Can still easily flip fronts, and can still maintain a polite demeanor when interacting with higher ups -So poor he uses a flip phone (fucking rip) -Seems to be almost ashamed for following Stella's orders, going so far as to avoid eye contact with Stolas as he agrees to her -Still prefers to satisfy his own needs first though (which goes against his more efficient characterization in episode five), and is willing to follow orders but bend the rules a little just to satisfy his own sadism and ego -Even Striker is confused about the music choice, and clearly preferred the country music -Still powerful and durable, using his athleticism and the environment around him to assist in giving him a upper hand against Moxxie and Millie -Was seemingly aiming to decapitate Millie rather than pin her -Genuinely caught off guard from Moxxie appearing to enjoy being choked, and dislikes the change -Even still, Striker was successful in his goals and seemed to have actually gotten under Stolas's skin with his words with his manipulation and sadistic treatment I hope this helps to solidify what we know as a whole for Striker’s character, and bring out all of the differences that we saw! Thank you for reading <3

The seamstress was a lady of great beauty and skill.
But unfortunately it wasn't her skills that paid the bills.
Any spider good at weaving webs would hope that's the part that attracts flies. But when you come in a certain shape, the web is only good for covering lies.
Ribs, waist, hips, legs - her body soon infested with eggs. And she felt, over a time: "This body is no longer mine."
But within her plight, from the dark of the night; a generous stranger came to her lane - and alas, set her poor little heart aflame.
Unlike any man or person she'd met thus far, for you see - it was no man at all.
Noticing her strain, the kind stranger made an offer of change. And the crafty seamstress would settle for nothing plain - being already dehumanized, an insectoid wouldn't feel strange.
To her predators, the seamstress would only be a beauty when they first met; so any man pushing over the line would end up quite dead.
And thus many of them would find themselves infested with flies instead.
Eventually she did run away with her mysterious stranger, leaving humanity behind.
And you'd find that the world of monsters can be surprisingly kind.
She however, was not. Not anymore.

Thinking about the Explorers and the relationships between different members in the group, and the characters of the individuals ones we've met so far.
There's clearly a dichotomy between them and the Rising Volt Tacklers about how the Rising Volt Tacklers are a close knit and supportive group of people who take good care of each other and that is their strength, while the Explorers...really don't.
The above image is a very basic showcase of what the closest connections seem to be, but to elaborate a bit.
I think there are a select few characters among this group who are probably the most redeemable and present the clearest foils to the kids of the RVT, namely Liko. Those being Amethio, Coral/Sango, and Sidian/Onyx.
Amethio and Coral in particular don't seem to be inherently evil per se, but in different ways they seem to have underlying insecurities and problems that show themselves a lot, especially in contrast to Liko. Especially in the recent episode where Liko and Coral had a baking showdown. Liko won because she had experience, and notably she had her friends Roy, Dot, and Murdock cheering her on. Meanwhile Coral was alone and had no support, and yet it's clear she was genuinely trying and seemed to want to be recognized as someone who can do something. Sidian doesn't seem to be a particularly bad guy either.
Within the groups Amethio is pretty close with his two grunt subordinates Zirc and Onia while Coral and Sidian are close with each other specifically. Those are the closest they have to friends in their own groups.
Hamber and Chalce (Agate) are probably the closest to being adult figures for certain members of the group. Hamber takes very special care of Amethio, while Chalce is specifically close with Sidian and Coral where she's the one giving them orders and now is posing as a teacher and working with them specifically.
That said, for whatever reason that we don't fully understand, it seems Hamber and Chalce aren't particularly good at being the proper parental figures Amethio, Coral, and Sidian seem to need. Liko, Roy, and Dot are with the RVT and have so far been looked after by a very supportive group of adults in Friede alongside his buddies Orla, Mollie, Murdock, and Ludlow, all of who care about each other and have been great parental figures to the kids throughout their time with them. Diana, Liko's grandmother, also has a good relationship with Liko, which is also a contrast since Diana and Hamber were once friends. Meanwhile Hamber and Chalce are also pretty detached from each other as are the members they care for, the Hamber+Amethio+his goons and Chalce+Coral+Sidian sub-groups don't really like each other very much for whatever reason.
Which definitely raises some interesting questions about the dichotomy and contrast that seems to be presenting itself. Hamber and Chalce are admittedly interesting in different ways as they're the closest to being like the RVT adults in that they are serving a guardian role for certain other members but evidently aren't the adult figures Amethio and Coral truly need, or the support network they seem to need.
---
And yeah, Spinel is there on the right all by himself. I think it's quite obvious what his deal is. He does not care about anyone else in the group. He openly dislikes Amethio and admits to using Coral, Sidian, and Chalce for his own self-gain. He only cares about himself, and he's setting up to be the traitor and a big bad himself who's sucking up to Gibeon for the time being, but fully intends to backstab the group and try to overthrow Gibeon once they all stop being useful to him. He's the most straightforward purely evil villain character like Hunter J from DP.
A long ass ramble but some interesting notes I felt were fun to speculate about.

It's so fitting that Amethio was present when Liko's Nyahoja evolved given that he's been involved in most of Liko's important steps as a trainer so far.
He is the reason Liko's pendant activated its powers for the first time in the series (when it had been dormant for decades before that point) which made Liko want to know more about its mysteries, Nyahoja managed to use her Leafage at full power against him back in HZ002 (and with her backstory from HZ040 in perspective, it was significant that Nyahoja stopped holding back at that moment).. Their narratives kept being intertwined every step of the way, Liko catching her first Pokemon and deciding the kind of trainer she wants to be in HZ021 was immediately followed by Amethio being woven back into the story and appearing in contrast.
In fact, Liko wanting to become stronger in the first place was in relation to Amethio, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Liko specifically brought up Amethio in HZ007 and the fact that not being able to do anything against him left her frustrated (in comparison, Roy's motivations were tied to Rayquaza). She learned that feeling of frustration for the first time because of him, which gave her the resolve to grow stronger.
Even now at the end of the first year, Amethio is still acting as a source of motivation of sorts to Liko, albeit differently.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Liko asks Friede how they can use Terastal, and Roy brings up that Lizardon was amazing, to which Liko adds that Amethio's Soublades was amazing too! She thinks of Soublades positively and was impacted by the experience, and may see it as a kind of inspiration.
Amethio went from someone Liko couldn't trust, to someone she can thank and maybe consider as someone she wants to reach too. I wonder if Amethio will be involved somehow if Nyarote evolves in Masquernya in the future.

Flaws to give characters if they're "nice"
Toxic positivity.
Holding themself to an impossible standard.
Being smothering or invasive to people while trying to be helpful.
Not understanding if they offended someone when they were trying to do them a favor.
Refusing to compromise their own morals even when it lands them in trouble.
Refusing to share their problems with other people out of fear that they'll be a burden them.
Fear of what will happen if they stop being nice to other people
A lack of empathy for people who are considered "bad."
Attempts to help everyone and ends up letting everyone down
Tries to spare people's feelings too often/the opposite of brutal honesty
An aversion to conflict of any kind
Atlas Complex (tries to take on all the responsibility)
People Pleaser
A dogmatic dedication to manners and making a good impression on people.
Too much trust in organizations that claim to work towards "Good causes" (less likely to suspect things like charities or activist movements of wrong doing)
