Enterprise characters' dnd classes
a part of this series
Archer: fighter. not really a competition imo. Archer is the most "yeah let's just go fuck around" out of all the Captains we see. he has a pretty obvious violent streak (as we see in the season 3 hunt for the Xindi). he also really tries to act morally by fitting things into a black and white world view which slowly evolves as we get to season 4.
T'Pol: monk. i already said how Vulcans are very monk-like in my Voyager post and i think T'Pol fits that mold pretty well, especially in the season 4 arc on Vulcan where she's forced to confront Vulcan spirtualism and eventually accept it.
Trip: artificer. i've mostly been sticking to the player's handbook classes because that accounts for most of my dnd knowledge but Trip is undeniably an artificer to me. he isn't necessarily formally trained nor does he really have his skills through instinct or some other force. he's just a tinkerer who got very very good at what he does.
Malcolm: fighter. Malcolm is the most traditional fighter you can get in Star Trek. he comes from a military family, he follows orders, and he doesn't really have some grand moral framework. he shows up and defends his ship and his planet the best he can because he can never really be anything else.
Hoshi: wizard. indisputably a wizard. she's maxed out in intelligence and shows it given the fact that she literally invented the universal translator and is a capable enough engineer despite never really training as one.
Phlox: druid. just. just look at the amount of animals in his sickbay. i really don't know how Phlox keeping a zoo on board is efficient in the least but it's undoubtedly where his power comes from. also because he's the only alien crew member other than T'Pol and feels out of place the way a druid outside of their natural environment would.
Travis: ranger. oh. poor Travis. i'm so sorry you got like 3 episodes of focus despite being a main character. that said i think a ranger build works well given that he was raised in space without a lot of attachment for Earth and has a lot of ingenuity when it comes to exploring.

I love T’Pol because whenever I picture what her face looks like I only think about her big old eyes communicating some kind of helpless distress/agitation

little headcannons about elenore on board the enterprise.                       yes i will totally update these the more i rewatch.
Tumblr media
1. she 100% would have to spend a solid couple of days in the decon chamber. considering no one really considered all the illnesses and viruses that she hasn’t been exposed too yet. she actually happened to get deathly sick her third day on board. phlox was beside himself trying to keep her alive. 2. she hoards her inhaler with her life. the way that she probably doesn’t know if they could synthesize anymore. so she’s just wheezing every so often because she doesn’t want to waste it. until she fucking passes out in the hall and phlox is literally just “ ????? bitch????? its simple. “ 3. ellie does sometimes go poof. she disappears for a couple of days before always returning back to the enterprise. it’s almost like home base for her. she’s safe there. 3.1. she disappears to future ships. she can’t tell her enterprise crew, but it does help her get the upper hand on learner about new species. 4. but it also means that her and daniels have beef. 4.1. she also promptly stole his quarters. 5. she actually impresses chef when she’s finally cleared to roam the ship. she brings her a game and he actually lets her work a little bit in the galley. 6. which means she also proves her worth to archer. she does his dinner some nights. while also ripping it with desserts , for the little senior staff dinners. but she’s finally feeling useful after pretty much taking up space in sickbay for two solid weeks. 7. ellie introduces the crew to the wonders of 21st century reality tv. she finds shows like big brother , married at first sight (australia bc there is no better version) and even the bachelor. 7.1. t’pol is very very much into the bachelor , even if she would never admit it. she lets ellie eat from her popcorn bucket. 7.2. trip is very much into big brother. 7.3. hoshi adores a good singing contest. 8. ellie and trip bond over sun , surf and florida. well for ellie its mainly bonding over the fact that disney.world still exists. the idea that it does has ellie bouncing out of her seat (and a little terrified). 9. ellie has a four legged shadow.  she fed porthos cheese once and that dog follows her everywhere. 9.1. if he’s a good enough dog , she will feed him something more nutritious than the bagged dog food archer always seems to give him. 10. ngl when i say the four of them , i mean archer/trip/t’pol/ellie , all somehow end up joined at the hip. maybe its just a senior staff type of thing. the only ones to know of ellie’s special ability or something else. who knows. :)))))

dont mistake me I really loved s3 of Enterprise, and so far im enjoying s4, but the character writing has taken such a hard hit
what I mean by that is that if you aren't Archer, T'Pol, or Trip, youre basically fucked. pretty much all the focus shifted to those three, with very few exceptions. Phlox occasionally gets some focus, and Malcolm might get a few crumbs, but Travis? Hoshi? they barely exist. theyre supposed to be main characters, and at this point it feels like theyre not even side characters. Shran has gotten more attention in s4 than Travis and Hoshi have gotten
im so close to the end of the series that I know it won't change, which is disappointing. I feel that other Treks have done a much better job keeping things feeling somewhat balanced, with bigger casts. im still enjoying myself with this series, and im hoping I continue to enjoy myself, but this is a big gripe I have with s3 and s4 specifically

I think Betazoids are interesting and infuriating in that we’ve never really seen an average joe (or average Veronica, I guess)
Lwaxana Troi is an ambassador, and of course, daughter of the Fifth House, holder of the Sacred Chalice of Rixx, heir to the Holy Rings of Betazed. She’s exceptional, she’s royalty (?), she’s an icon, she’s divine.
Deanna Troi is half human. She struggles with or dislikes some of the conventions of Betazoid society. It must be weird to go from a society where you know everyone’s intimate thoughts and are always sharing them, to one where people are guarded, can be guarded, or even if they are not are still bound by having to express their thoughts through a second medium outside of the thought itself. To be under-served by both methods of communication. Data is the Spock of TNG, sure, but so is Deanna, in many ways.
Tam Elbrun is way too empathic. Lon Suder is not enough.
The closest we get is Lieutenant Veronica Stadi, who of course, has two lines and then dies (obsessed with her, though).
All of the main Betazoids seem to carry a loneliness with them, either apparent to all or below the surface. For some of them it’s not always there, but kind of seeps into the background, whereas for others its constant.
Is that the Betazoid condition, to be intimately connected yet always lonely? Or is it just these group of Betazoids are lonely because they are exceptional? Or just happen to all be individuals who experience loneliness in the moments we see them?
To return to Spock, he was all we had for a long time, as a baseline for what a Vulcan is, with a few fleeting glimpses at others in one-off episodes (his father, Dr. Selar, etc). We finally got Tuvok, and later T’pol, to round out all the different different ways one can be Vulcan. When will we get the Tuvok of Betazoids? When!

got halfway through writing a post why narratively it would be much more interesting to have malcolm become the bridge officer who became addicted to trellium because (like t’pol) he has a hard time connecting with people + after having a means of which to make that/emoting easier for him, he, like her, would find it appealing (whereas the direction they took t’pol’s character in--her relationship w trip--would have been much more compelling if she was in control of herself/not relying on substance abuse to be with him because they... are intended to genuinely love each other. whether that comes across or not in the show is a separate point). and besides that--as the embodiment of the armoury, the allotment of personality that he gets in the show is almost exclusively chalked up to being fortified and defensive. i think having that taken away from him/his reluctance to accept that he’s shut off from people would b interesting and also... for the love of god.. give him something to do aside from hayes in the final few seasons. anyway then i remembered that trellium d is only toxic to vulcans and may i just say this... uh. boo??

This is once again niche crossover content, but I feel like Dr.Gears and T'Pol would get along fantastically!
Gears has repressed his emotions for decades to a point where they might as well not exist and T'Pol is literally from a culture where the purging of all emotions and following only logic is the absolute norm
Both have guys who are in love with them in the most cheesy, romantic way and it ends badly for both of them
Both are compared to robots a lot
And also they’re both scientists and absolute fucking nerds and idk I just have a vision! Let me live a little!

how about t'pol?
T'Pol is now up as a surprise challenger! She was recommended a bit later than some of the others, but since she was recommended by multiple people, she gets to cut in line.

"Trek or Treat"
Been sitting on this one for a while. I hope you enjoy! 🖖🏻
T'lyn as T'pol, Tendi as Moopsy, Rutherford as the warp core, Mariner as Uhura, and Boimler as Pike - contouring, it's a whole thing.
(I cannot take credit for the background - you can find Cerritos interiors online. I only drew the characters.)

here’s a compilation of why rick berman of star trek fame could have ruined the franchise with his bigotry, thanks to @/thisismewhatevs on twitter:
- rick berman is usually cited by writers as the main reason gay characters were not allowed on screen in TNG/VOY/DS9/ENT even though gene roddenberry specifically wanted gay representation in the 1980s
- notably, he is responsible for demanding female actors be "sexed up" in various ways including jeri ryan's catsuit and padding terry farell's breasts
- when terry farell asked for a reduced contract similar to those of her male costars, she was fired, leading to the sudden death of jadzia dax
- with seven of nine's catsuit, not only was it berman's idea to make her "born sexy yesterday" her original costume pinched her neck so much she kept passing out. rather than change it, berman brought in nurses to administer oxygen between takes
- berman would continually comment on the appearance of female actors to the point that marina sirtis developed an eating disorder. sirtis also mentions how tight her corset and how large her breast padding was under her "uniform"
- berman was left in charge of trek because he was in the right place when roddenberry got sick. He had no experience with scifi previously and didn't really believe in roddenberry's vision of the future:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- In addition to being a dick to denise crosby after pushing her out, he's also the reason for wil wheaton was kicked out for similar contact negotiation as terry farrell
- harry kim was never promoted from ensign since berman hated his actor, garrett wang, according to him
- enterprise was a step backwards in a lot of ways because berman had far more creative control (seasons 1-3) and took a much more hands on writing role. here's t'pol actor jolene blalock discussing his sexualization of her
- as DS9 went on, garak and bashir spent less time together and garak was given zyial as an incredibly gross love interest because andy robinson's portrayal as queer coded made berman uncomfortable
- despite the "equality" promoted on the show, berman hired very few female writers, with less than 30% of episodes having even one female writer during his time
- “Rick Berman is not the only asshole to have worked on Star Trek and he is not the reason for every bad choice from TNG-ENT. However HE WAS the executive producers and show runner in charge of production so much of the sins of that time lie at his feet. When people get confused about how some people seem to "misunderstand" the point of Star Trek and don't know how they can watch/enjoy the "progressive" nature of the show and be such vile sexists and racists, this is how. They let a sexist asshole run the show for three decades. On screen representation is important. It's amazing for people to see themselves in such a hopeful future, but the behind the scenes matters just as much if not more than who is in front of the camera. Representation without responsible storytelling is a tragedy.“ -Deep Space Fine on twitter
this is not to say that TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT are bad shows, or that they shouldn’t be watched, or anything else; but that understanding why these awful choices were made behind the scenes in depicting a “progressive” future. rick berman didn’t agree with this future because he didn’t want others who weren’t white, cis, straight men like him to benefit in the ways he did.
