Because I'm currently deep into Charité fandom, and totally in love with Martin x Otto (and I have read most of your fics about them ^^ hihi) I wanna know: Otto Marquardt, 25
Aw, that's awesome! Thanks for reading my stuff ^^
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
Honestly, my first impression of Otto wasn't great. I'm not a big fan of that "poor little guy uwu German soldiers fighting for Hitler were people too!" spiel (appropriation of victim focus much?), and his insta-flirting with everyone around kind of had me rolling my eyes. In both points I have to concede: I fell for the set-up of the writers, and I fell for Otto's well-trained façade. He may be a flirt, but he's certainly not a slut for Nazi girls. And Otto himself doesn't assume the victim role at all, not even when he's on the list of the persecuted. He's way too self-aware and outwardly perceptive of the world he's living in, and luckily too proactive to remain in the place he was slotted in by society. So, for now: He's my blorbest little darling, and I love him. The one thing that remained of my initial impression is that he's a himbo XD

Anglophone's Guide to Watching German Public Television
In response to the removal of Charité at War and Charité from US Netflix, I made a google doc with the instructions for downloading tv shows and translating their subtitles from ARD's media library software. Unfortunately, Charité has also been removed from the ARD media library, so the primary source would be this website: https://wlext.is/series/charite-season-2/?server=ommatop&episode=001
Please DM me with any questions. Like. Pretty please. I love talking about this. I am so bored.

Two amazing fanfic moments I had this week:
Writing a fic for a fandom that is so small that 50% of the fics are all written by the same 3 authors and you have a favourite among them. Now imagine said author leaving a comment and a kudo on your fic!! Best moment of the week!!
Getting into a new fandom (even smaller than the first one) and finding a finished fic of > 100 000 words, with amazing writing and keeping you hooked until the end. Btw one of the best fics I've ever read in my life.

lmao comment est-il possible que les trois actrices principales d'une pièce d'époque soient exactement les mêmes trois actrices principales d'une autre pièce d'époque totalement indépendante? small world.

5, 11, 21 for the fandom asks (and also any fandom you like)? ^_^
5. something you see in fics a lot and love
Established Relationship XD If you came into the Tatort fandom with no previous info, you'd think it's very well established that every character in this fandom is queer, very much at peace with it, and comfortably in a relationship with their darling. That the writers of Tatort are actually a bunch of conservative old "no homo!"s is something that is hardly even visible in the derivative work, and I love it. We only take the tidbits from canon we can work with; everything is optional and malleable like dough. We wanna skip the drama and just have them eating breakfast together at their anniversary? There you go; we hardly even need to change their behavior.
11. if you're a writer or artist, what fic or piece of art are you proud of making?
Hands down Primum non nocere, my 24-chapter Charité season 2 retelling from Martin's POV. The transitions are a bit wonky in the early chapters and I can see where I would polish up my writing these days, but it's a complete, novel-length fic, and I did some very nice character work in there if I may say so.
21. a fandom you're not active in anymore but that you still really like
Ehm... I feel like I need to pass on this one. I'm currently not very active in any of my fandoms, but I plan to be again, and those fandoms I don't plan to be active in, I've always been a passive observer from the sidelines. The Discworld fandom, perhaps? I never quite found the courage to try and do anything with the Discworld characters due to fear of not doing them justice, but I love the drawings and little cartoons other people make of them.

A very interesting chapter on how the war left its mark, whether on veterans or those who waited for their husbands or fathers to return, and not many did. Millie has lost her father and finds it hard to stay working in this charity. At the same time, she is blamed by the upper classes for putting her own suffering first and neglecting that of others. I liked Yor's intervention because she too is a victim of war, but she decided to become stronger for her brother because no one else could look after her and Yuri. And I like the fact that we see Melinda in a more positive light, in the sense that yes, she has her responsibilities as Donovan's wife, but she also has her family. Which makes her a little more nuanced, and I hope we'll get some moments between her and her sons, because I think it's important for her, but also for them. Besides, technically Loid is a veteran too, so I wonder whether he'll go or not, as it might bring back some bad memories.

Red Cross Portraits Egg (1915)
Description: Opalescent white guilloché enamel covers a chased silver ground on this egg. Two opposing red enamel crosses bear the dates 1914 and 1915. A Russian inscription, in stylized gold enamel script in a band around the egg reads: “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his comrades.” On the top of the egg is the crown and monogram of the Dowager Empress Marie in silver, while at the bottom is a six-petal rosette. The egg contains a hinged, folding screen of five oval miniature portraits, each set in an opalescent white enameled panel mounted in gold. The portraits, by Vasilii Zuiev, are of:
Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna, the tsar’s sister Grand Duchess Olga Nicolaievna, his eldest daughter Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna Grand Duchess Tatiana Nicolaievna, the tsar’s second daughter Grand Duchess Marie Pavlovna, the tsar’s first cousin
Each wears the uniform of the Red Cross, whose symbol surmounts the individual panels. Each miniature is backed with mother of pearl and has the monogram of the person whose painting appears on the front (Snowman, 1962; Lesley, 1976).
Background Notes: This egg pays tribute to the service rendered to the Red Cross by Marie Feodorovna, first as tsarevna (crown princess) during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877, and then as president of the organization from the beginning of her reign until the fall of the Romanov dynasty. On March 25 (OS), 1915, Marie wrote to her daughter Olga:
My dear Nicky sent me a charming egg that I did not expect at all this year. It is covered in white enamel and has a red cross on both sides with the words of the Apostle John: Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends. There are five miniature portraits in frames inside the egg: yours, Olga, Alix, Tatiana and Marie, all en soeurs to charité (Ed. note: as sisters of charity)! Simply captivating. Fabergé is simply a genius and the greatest artist of our century. I am delighted. (Korneva & Cheboksarova, Empress Maria Feodorovna’s Favorite Residences in Russia and in Denmark, St. Petersburg, 2006).
Marie Feodorovna and other Romanov women did not shirk their wartime duty. The dowager empress opened a hospital in the Anichkov Palace and she made bandages. As well, she made gifts and sorted sheets for sickbeds in a palace dining room; she paid for two military trains and visited hospitals in Petrograd and Kiev. In a letter dated December 15 (OS) 1914 to Grand Duchess Nicholas Michaelovich, Marie wrote:
I go to hospitals as often as I am able. This is the only consolation for me. All of the wounded are dear to us and ennoble one’s soul … I admire them sincerely and I am ready to go on my knees before every one of them (Korneva & Cheboksarova, Empress Maria Feodorovna’s Favorite Residences in Russia and in Denmark, St. Petersburg, 2006).
The invoice for the 1915 Tsar Imperial Easter eggs appears lost. But an article published by Tatiana Muntian in December, 2013, to mark the 400th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty, included material from newly-discovered documents about the individual Imperial Easter Eggs for 1912, 1914, and 1915. The Red Cross Portraits Egg had cost just 3,875 rubles.
The 1917 inventory of confiscated Imperial treasure records, “Gold [sic] egg, covered with white enamel and a red cross, on small stand, containing a small, mother-of-pearl white enamel screen and with portraits of Imperial personages in a gold setting.” (Fabergé, Proler, & Skurlov, Fabergé Imperial Easter Eggs, London, 1997)
An expert valuation was made of this egg in 1927. Found by Fabergé, Proler, & Skurlov, the valuation estimated the egg’s worth at just 1,632 rubles-less than a tenth of the average value of the other fifteen eggs on the list. This was the first of five Imperial Easter eggs to be purchased by Lillian Thomas Pratt, wife of a General Motors executive, of Fredericksburg, Virginia.
