The Clover Kingdom in Chaos: A Dire Tale

The broad stalwart captain turned and suddenly heard his name called by a loud female voice. When he turned around he saw Charlotte's fan girl. She looked furious, but well didn't she always do that when Sol saw him? It mattered little to him.

The woman with short black hair landed and got off her broom. "What did you do to Charlotte," she growled furiously.

"Me?" sounded tonelessly from the captain. "Why would I have done anything to Charlotte? I haven't seen her in a month."

The woman's hands became fists and with great strides she walked toward him. "You gross filthy man. I'm sure you did something to Charlotte."

"Listen here, scary miss, I haven't seen your captain for a month okay. Not since we had tea."

Sol came to stand in front of Yami and pressed an index finger to his chest and looked at him with a rage in her eyes. "Yeah and she's been upset ever since, so what happened? And besides she was muttering strange things after that. I couldn't make anything out of it. And now, now she's gone. And it's all your fault."

Yami drew a gasp from his cigarette and blew the smoke right into Sol's face, who in turn jumped back. Then he knocked some ash off his cigarette. "Look I don't know what's up with Charlotte. Puli told me at the meeting that she was on a family visit or something?"

"That's not true, she went to see her parents but that was over a week ago. Since then there has been radio silence."

"And what makes you think I had anything to do with this? As I told you, I haven't spoken to her since the tea. I still tried to contact her. But, but." Slowly his words died away. "She ignored me, okay. You said she was acting strange? Stranger than like normal?"

A silence fell; Sol was normally glued to Charlotte. She had even followed Charlotte during tea. Fortunately, the captains managed to outwit her and get away from her. From then on, things became blurred in his memory, as if whole holes were missing. Then again, he also woke up with a big hangover the next day.

"Captain Yami, I'm begging you. Char is not with family. And since your tea date she was absent, muttering things I couldn't understand. The last few days before she disappeared she seemed to be feeling ill. She was muttering things about a curse, about youth or something?"

Attentively, Yami listened to what Sol was saying. The word curse sent a shiver down his spine and the hairs on his arms stood up straight. "You think the curse from her childhood might be back?"

As Sol stared blankly ahead, she nodded yes. "I am afraid of it. And as I said, she's not with her family. I guess it was a lie to keep us from being concerned. I worry Yami. So what happened then that might have activated her curse again?"

Again Yami drew a heave. After this, he looked at the smoking cigarette between his fingers. He tossed the thing aside and growled, "nonsense."

"It's not nonsense, what happened that night. You men are all the same."

Then Yami cast a sharp glance at the toned woman. "Look Charlotte's crazy fan girl, I don't remember what happened, okay. We had some drinks, talked and we both went our separate ways. The next day I woke up hungover, so I guess I ended up in the pub."

"Charlotte didn't come back until the next morning; she looked terrible. As if she had fought with a wild beast. But you don't know anything?"

This was so strange, Yami thought. Was she in the pub with him? Then maybe they had been drinking together? Stupid missing pieces. He brought his fist to his forehead and growled. "Then what was she muttering about me after that time? There's a reason you're here and suspect me."

"She spoke in her sleep, calling your name and saying things like you would be guilty of something. During the day she was less clear. Char was so absent-minded, as if her mind was in another world."

Suddenly Yami turned and shoved his hands back into his pockets. "She'll be back, we're talking about the prickly queen here. Now go to your girl team and wait."

Yami walked in and he still heard Sol shouting things. But in thought, he was the one absorbed now. What happened that night that her curse had been activated again?

“ Today isn’t that special,” Yami had said in his usual tone as he put a cigarette in his mouth. “ So I don’t get why you’re so worked up over it.”

Charlotte had tried to hide her disappointment at his words, today was an important day for them. It was their 1-year anniversary, and he was saying that it wasn’t special? She watched as he turned to look at her for a moment before a frown appeared on his face.

“ Hey, what’s wrong?” He asked with his voice full of concern. Charlotte hadn’t noticed her eyes well up with tears of the hurt and angry expression that graced her face. She quickly wiped the tears away and tried to smile.

“Nothing’s wrong, I just got an eyelash in my eye. Come on, let’s go home.” Charlotte had told him, trying to feign happiness, but Yami wasn’t stupid. He knew she was pretending and that she was actually very hurt by his words.

The two walked silently side by side, the air tense between them. Anytime Yami tried to say anything, he was instantly cut off by Charlotte pointing something else out, or she would just flat-out ignore him while giving him the silent treatment.

Eventually, the two came upon the Hideout, and a wave of relief washed over the woman as he stared at it. She was glad they were back home, especially since that meant she could get as far away from Yami as possible. Because right now, she was so upset by his obliviousness, she couldn’t hardly stand to look at him.

She walked quickly towards the Hideout doors before she gently pushed them open, and once she stepped inside, her blue eyes widened.

There were balloons, streamers, a banner that said ‘Happy 1-Year Anniversary’, and a beautiful strawberry cake with white icing sitting on the table that stood underneath it all. She suddenly turned as Yami chuckled from behind her.

“ Did you really think I was gonna forget our anniversary? Or that I wouldn’t care about it?” Yami asked as he leaned against the door frame with his arms crossed. Charlotte looked from the table, to Yami, and back again.

“ You…did this?”

“ I did.”

“ And, you intentionally got me upset so I wouldn’t be suspecting it?”

“ I did. Although I didn’t think you would get that upset about it, sorry Prickly Princess.” Yami said as he walked over to her, wrapped his arms around her waist, and kissed the top of her head.

“ You should be sorry, I was this close to kicking you out and making you sleep on the couch,” Charlotte said with a chuckle as she pinched her index and thumb close together. Yami laughed loudly and kissed her lips.

“ To be fair, I wouldn’t have blamed you, and I probably would have done it too if I were you.’’ Yami agreed after he pulled away.

Yami then grabbed Charlotte’s hand and led her to the table, where they ate, shared gifts, and talked about their future.

A snip from the newest chapter

Chapter 2: Why do I have to be here?

Yami lay on his own bed, through his fingers he let a cigarette roll, but he didn't feel like having a smoke. He tossed the thing aside and sat up straight. Then he looked sideways at a drink Gordon had made for him. The stuff was thick and purple and it was in a small vial. Yami didn't even want to think about the smell it was supposed to have.

That afternoon he had gone to Gordon for help. Hell he had gone to that creep for help from all people. But ever since his encounter with Sol, he had been slowly losing his mind and feld desperate. He had to and would bring up those lost memories.

"Fuck it," and Yami grabbed the vial, pulled the lit open and threw the substance back at one go. "'Holy shit Asta's sweat socks are even tastier than these, these." A nauseous feeling swooped in and he had to fight it. Yami fought the feeling with everything he had in him.

The man balled a fist and stood up, a light feeling rose to his head and a strange warm feeling rippled through his legs. Staring at his own trembling fingers, he dropped back onto the bed. "'Bullshit!" he growled. Yami rolled onto his back and his breathing became heavier and his eyes slowly sank shut. "Bye cruel world."

And then there was a surreal tranquility, as if his feet were in a shallow pond, fish swam around him. Looking up at the sky, he did not see a cloud in the sky, only stars that were shining so brightly. A cold breeze caressed his cheek."Yami? Yami?"

That voice, quickly he turned around. "Charlotte?" Yami called, his voice hoarse. "Charlotte!" he shouted louder, almost panicking.

"Calm down captain, I'm here." She sounded smiling and she appeared beside him. "Did you lose me?" Gently she pressed her lips against his. A warm glow took over his body, as if this was real. A feeling as if he knew exactly how her lips would taste, feel and what tingle they would leave behind. And without thinking, he kissed her back.

A hand slid across his belly. But then Yami broke the kiss and took a step back. "This isn't real, you're not real!"

"Oh?" She began smiling, as if mischief lived in her eyes. "Isn't this your memory then?" With her thumbs, she slid under the shoulder straps of her summer dress. Yami knew that dress from their tea date and he also knew what was coming.

Almost like a sprint, Yami took a step forward to stop her. "Is it? Is it my memory? Why don't I remember it? Charlotte, what happened and where are you now? What did we do to activate a curse?"

Gently Charlotte bit her lower lip as her dress slid down into the water "Curse, what curse? If anyone is my curse, it's you Yami Sukehiro. You have defiled me this night, you and your manliness have disturbed my innocence."

Staring at her beautiful round breasts, he felt his mouth go dry. "Have we been here? This lake? You, this way? Charlotte, have we?"

"Shhh," she soothed as she pressed an index finger to his lips. She brought her lips to his ear as she gently pressed her naked body against his. "Let's dance in the moonlight."

Yami felt his breathing become heavier again, a warm glow pulling over his body like a blanket. Gently, Charlotte took his earlobe between her teeth. In sheer desperation, he wrapped his arms around her, only then did she disappear. "Fuck!" cussed Yami angrily.

Playfully Charlotte hung against a tree a little further up. Shadow fell partly over her body but her face was still visible. "I believe I lost something here. Maybe you'll find out where I am when you find out what?"

"Why don't you just tell me where you are? Prickly queen, you have us all scared."

A mischievous smirk on her face sent a shiver down Yami`s spine. She raised an index finger. "But my sweet dear Yami, I am just your memory of this night. I am not Charlotte herself, I am what you know of that night mixed with what you felt. I don't have your answer where I am right now."

She turned her back to him and he jumped after her, only to get his foot caught behind a chunk of tree root and fall into the water.

At that moment he gasped for breath and threw open his eyes. His body was sweaty and his breathing rapid and irregular. Yami was back in his room, ons his bed. Was this a memory or a dream? Yami let himself fall backward again. This was not helpful, or yet maybe it was? “Damn Prickly what have you done?” he mumbled.

lyra!! i have a challenge for you (though if you've done it, then nvm). I was thinking, can you write a fluffy YamixCharlotte where Charlotte was dared by her squadmates (they really begged for her to do it) to do a "ignore your boyfriend/husband for 24 hours" challenge? This challenge is pretty common in youtube before so i was curious what you have in mind for this idea

Hiya anon! I’m so sorry this took so long, IRL and other such things have gotten in the way 😅. But i hope you enjoy, it’s been a while since I’ve written for YamiChar so this was fun! Tbh I’ve never seen/heard of this challenge so I’m not sure if I portrayed it accurately but I tried my best 😅😁!

Charlotte didn’t know how her squad was able to talk her into this, she really didn’t.

It started out like every other day, the birds were chirping, the sky was a clear crisp blue, a gentle breeze was blowing through the courtyard of the Blue Rose base, and the squad had the next few days off. Things were going well. That is, until Charlotte stumbled across the girls giggling and talking amongst themselves.

“ There’s no way she’d do it.” One of the girls said with a shake of her head.

“ I dunno, I think she would. I mean, when you think about it, wasn't their relationship kinda like this in the beginning? Except she was the one ignored?” Another suggested thoughtfully, a couple of the girls nodded in agreement.

“ What’s going on here?” Charlotte asked curiously, the girls looked up at her in slight surprise as they hadn’t heard her approach.

“ O-Oh Captain! We didn’t see you there.” Selena said with a nervous laugh as she looked at the others. Charlotte raised a curious brow at them.

“ Is something wrong? Why do you all look like you were caught with your hand in the cookie jar?” She asked suspiciously, Puli smiled a bit and walked towards the Captain.

“ Well Captain, there actually is something. You see there’s this ‘challenge’ going on around the kingdom where people ignore their husband, boyfriend, spouse, etc for 24 hours and the girls want you to try it with Captain Sukehiro!” Puli told her, Charlotte blinked in surprise.

“ Why would someone do that?” She asked curiously.

“ Some do it for fun and others just do it to see how their significant other will react!” Puli explained quickly, Charlotte placed a hand under chin in thought.

“ Hm, while it sounds interesting, I don’t think I could do it. Sorry girls. You’ll just have to try it with your boyfriends.” Charlotte said with a sad smile.

“ But we already did, that’s why we want you to try it now.” Wainsley explained as the others nodded, soon all the girls began to beg and plead for Charlotte to just give it a shot, she sighed before looking at Sol.

“ What do you think? Should I try it?” She asked her curiously, Sol shrugged.

“ I mean, the challenge sounds pretty dumb to me. But I think you could do it Char.” Sol said, the girls cheered as it was pretty rare for Sol to be on their side.

“ Well, I guess I really have no choice now since it's 7 to 1.” Charlotte said with a defeated sigh, the girls cheered again before explaining how the challenge worked.

To be honest it sounded simple enough as the girls talked about it. But the thing was, Yami was not an easy person to ignore.

The first 2 hours of the challenge were going well so far, Yami had sent a few letters that she moved off to the side. He tried to contact her through the magical items, but again she ignored them. She silently hoped the rest of the 22 hours would go by just like this.

But Charlotte wasn’t so lucky.

“ Hey Prickly Princess, why’re you ignoring me?” Yami asked as he suddenly appeared in her doorway. The blonde haired woman jumped in her chair in surprise, what was he doing here? Wasn’t he supposed to be away on a mission towards Nean? How was she supposed to ignore him when he was standing right in front of her?!

“ Helloo? Hey Charlotte, is your hearing okay?” He asked as he walked up to her desk, she gripped the quill in her hand tightly as she continued writing her reports. She could do this, she thought with a firm nod, she could ignore him while he was in front of her.

Suddenly Charlotte felt a finger on her forehead, which slowly pushed her head up until she was looking Yami in the eye. She felt her face heat up as she looked at him, he had only been away for one or two days but he somehow grew even more handsome than he already was.

‘No! Don’t think like that Charlotte, you have to complete this challenge! You don’t want to let the squad down just because your tall, muscular, and very handsome boyfriend showed up right?!’ She quickly shook her head, she had to stay strong!

“ Hey Prickly Princess can you hear me? I’ve been trying to talk to you all day.” Yami asked, she watched as his eyes went from serious to concerned. “ Did something really happen to your hearing? Maybe I should take you to see Owen.” Yami muttered to himself.

Charlotte quickly jumped out of her seat, her face as bright red as it could be, and she dashed out of the room as though her pants were on fire.

“ Hey wait a sec-!” Yami shouted but it was too late, the blonde haired woman had already ran down the hall and rounded a corner. Yami sighed in confusion, what was going on with her?

“ Hey Wheels,” Yami called over his shoulder. Finral perked up and walked towards him. “ What does it mean if your girlfriends ignoring you?” He asked which caused Finral to think for a moment.

“ Well Captain there’s lots of reasons a girlfriend would ignore her boyfriend. For example, forgetting an anniversary or birthday, or not spending enough time together, or even worse she caught you hanging out with another girl.” Finral said with a sheepish laugh, unfortunately he had been caught by the latter many times in the past.

Yami frowned in thought, he didn’t forget a birthday or anniversary, he wasn’t ‘hanging out’ with other girls unless the ones from his squad counted, which meant only one thing; it was because he wasn’t spending enough time with her.

Of course Yami would love to spend more time with her, and Charlotte probably felt the same way, but with their jobs as Magic Knight Captains that was pretty hard to do. But still, they were able to take a couple of hours out of the day to see and spend time together. But maybe that still wasn’t enough?

“ C’mon, let’s go back to the Hideout.” Yami said as he and Finral went through one of his spatial portals.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Blue Rose Knight base, Charlotte leaned against the cool stone wall as she caught her breath. She had nearly snapped when she saw the look in her boyfriend's eyes. She had wanted to tell him her hearing was fine and not to worry, but of course she couldn’t. She would have to apologize later when she saw him.

10 hours later

Charlotte yawned slightly as she leaned back in her office chair. She had been avoiding her office for most of the afternoon as she was worried Yami might come back again, but when it started to turn towards the evening she finally gathered the courage to go back.

“ One more page and then I’ll call it a night.” Charlotte said tiredly as she saw it was nearing 9:00PM, she usually didn’t work this late if she could help it, but since she got a late start she would have to finish late as well.

As she went to grab another piece of paper she heard a familiar static-like noise, which usually meant someone was calling her using a magic item. She turned to look at it, she had a feeling who it was, but just in case it was an emergency she picked it up silently.

“ You finally answered? Well I guess that answers the question if your hearings okay.” Yami said with a sigh, Charlotte looked guilty towards the magic item, but she remained silent.

“ I don’t know if you’re mad at me, or if something else is going on, but right now I just want you to listen alright?” Yami started, she could hear a rustling in the background and could almost picture him moving around sheepishly.

“ I’m sorry, for whatever it is that I did. I don’t think I forgot anything, and I know we haven’t been able to spend as much time together as we want. But I’m going to try and change that, I had Finral write down all birthdays, holidays, and anniversaries down on a calendar. I’m also going to try and spend more time with you, although I’m not too sure about our schedules nowadays.” Yami said with a small chuckle. “ Ah I know just how to start things off! When I get back tomorrow I’m going to take you somewhere nice to eat, maybe that big fancy restaurant in the city that you like.” He added.

Charlotte smiled fondly as she listened to Yami, the only reason he suggested that restaurant was probably because he had a coupon, but she didn’t care. She could tell he really meant the things he was saying, how he wanted to spend more time together and that he was sorry even though he had no idea what he did wrong.

“ Just,” Yami spoke again, this time much softer. “ don’t ignore me like this forever alright Prickly Princess? I can’t stand not being able to hear your voice all day.” He added and she could see just how embarrassed he probably was.

“ Goodnight Charlotte.” After Yami said that he hung up, and as he did the Blue Rose Captain felt like a million daggers had pierced her heart.

She thought this challenge was supposed to be easy, but instead it turned out to be one of the hardest things she’d ever do in her life.

The next day when Yami got back from his mission and Charlotte’s challenge was over she quickly explained he had done nothing wrong and that her girls had challenged her to do it. As she explained it was like a lightbulb had gone off in his head, Noelle had done the same thing to Asta a few days prior, but for some reason Yami didn’t put the pieces together which made Charlotte laugh and shake her head.

She was never going to do a challenge like this again, or so she thought anyway.
