"Space Shuttle Orbiter Enterprise soars above the North Base area of Edwards Air Force Base during its five-minute, 34-second unpowered flight, the third of a series of manned Shuttle Approach and Landing Tests (ALT-14). Moments earlier Enterprise had separated from its 747 carrier aircraft, atop which it sat upon takeoff from the Dryden Flight Research Center (DFRC), with its crew of astronauts Fred W. Haise Jr., commander, and C. Gordon Fullerton, pilot. Three T-38 chase planes follow. This photograph was taken from a fourth T-38 chase plane."

The more my brain thinks about Annabeth Chase, the more implications of some of what they say comes to my head.
So Athena has her kids pop out of her head, right? Like she did? To get around the whole virgin goddess thing.
And she has them with humans that she forms a connection to - generally, anyway- with some sort of academic relationship, be that writing a paper, having an academic debate, what have you.
Imagine being the mortal parent.
You’ve just finished some big academic thing - be that an experiment or a paper or a class or whatever - and in the process you’ve met this woman who is incredibly intelligent and that you’ve developed a relationship- a purely platonic, completely not physical relationship- and you meet up with her to celebrate, maybe bring up some other ideas of things you could work on together, and she hands you a baby.
She tells you that she’s Athena, she’s enjoyed hanging out with you, here have a child made purely out of our combined brain power, you’ll probably never see me again.
Oh and when the kid grows up some they’ll start getting attacked by monsters that you probably won’t be able to see.
Like.
How do you respond to that?

Bro he's FINALLY got SOMETHING to show for a DESIGN now. Oh my God. He's one of my oldest fucking OCs, he's been a part of the headcanon since 2019. Talk about showing up late to the party, yeesh!
...Anyways.
Meet Chase!
Does he look familiar? He should. He's Dusty's older brother, and they are the spitting image of each other (I swear sometimes they use that on purpose to freak people out). Although there are a few noticable differences between the two of them. Chase is a *little* bigger than Dusty, and humanized he is 6'1" to Dusty's 6'0". His eyes are also a little darker, little more purple-y. And his livery - based off of a fish in Sea of Thieves - makes him look like he was meant to be born in the 70s. Except he was born in 1988. Oh, and the sprayer. Cuz farmer, yada yada.
Chase is a rancher back in Montana where the Crophopper family used to live. He's married to a loving wife, and they've got one daughter (Dusty's much beloved neice). As of right now, Chase has not had any fics where he's actually been featured, aside from one fic that was written partway in 2019 and never released (it may as well be titled 'Crophoppers: the Lost Episode'). I would very much like to write a fic with him officially, but Lord knows, with my track record, there's no telling if or when that'll actually happen. But hey, this post was progress enough, he HAS a featured design now! Is it just a recolor I slapped on an image of Dusty because I was lazy? YES! Does it still function as a character introduction? Fuck you, yes it is and will be!

important to me that you know squabble rocket jumps
she is always doing stupid stunts that involve excessive amounts of explosives. luckily she's basically incapable of getting hurt worse than a skinned knee or bruise here and there cause she defies the laws of physics. it's a very good thing this is the case otherwise carrion would find ways to murder the inanimate objects she gets hurt on
carrion waits on squabbles every whim gladly and will not make any attempt to stop squabble from doing the dangerous things she wants to, but as long as he’s in the vicinity everything will work out conspicuously perfect
jerryjack thinks squabble is incredibly entertaining and would absolutely never remind her of basic safety precautions. they up the stakes constantly
rig is wholly unaware what's normal for a 12 year old to do so instead of interfering she just offers practical advice like ‘that amount of c4 is unnecessary for what you're trying to blow up. using less will make a better explosion’. despite that, she’s super anal about gun safety (though she does not see any issues with giving squabble a gun in the first place)

"NASA 836"
The oldest and fastest F-15 in the world......
NASA 836 is a highly modified F-15B. It’s used for crew training, pilot proficiency and safety chase support for other research aircraft. It’s based at the agency’s Armstrong Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base in Southern California.
The jet first entered service in 1974 with the USAF. NASA acquired it in 1993 from the Hawaii Air National Guard. NASA then modified it to support their test programs. They made it 1,000 pounds lighter than any other F-15 flying in the world, and installed new modern engines. The age of the jet, combined with its lighter weight and more powerful Pratt and Whitney F100-PW-220 turbofan engines, makes 836 the oldest and fastest flying F-15 in the world. The engines can produce almost 24,000 pounds of thrust each in full afterburner. The crew regularly take the jet past Mach 2, at altitudes of 40,000 to 60,000 feet.

Space Shuttle Enterprise lands on runway 17 at Edwards Air Force Base with Astronauts Joe H. Engle, commander, and Richard H. Truly, pilot.
"Now Astronaut Truly took over, conducting additional control tests using the computer.'I was managing the energy so that I could give the aircraft back to Joe at the right airspeed, the right altitude and the right place in the sky,' said Truly.

'We had planned the mission so that I would fly the orbiter down to 2,000 feet, which we felt would be a good place to give Joe plenty of time to get the landing set up. Approaching Runway 15, Engle aimed at a patch of green grass near the edge of the lakebed, a landmark that was easy to spot.
Tumblr media
After five minutes 28 seconds of free flight, Enterprise again touched down on the dry lakebed. She settled smoothly onto the runway at a measured distance of 680 feet from that target point. Again the orbiter made good use of the length of its landing strip, for it took over a minute to come to a stop, in a rollout that once more exceeded 10,000 feet.'"

On the right a T-38 chase plane comes in for a landing.
The Shuttle Orbiter Enterprise stirs up a cloud of desert sand and dust as it lands for Approach and Landing Test (ALT-13), free flight number 2.
Tumblr media
"The ALT free flights are designed to verify orbiter subsonic airworthiness, integrated systems operations and pilot-guided approach and landing capability and satisfy prerequisites to automatic flight control and navigation mode."
