Hey you there! Stop! Are you looking for RP? Do you want to make a new connection? You okay with someone returning to the game after a hiatus?

Hi it me! I’m Val! Pretty much everyone I played with is MIA and my character’s old connections are no more, so I’m looking to make new ones. To justify this, I’ve edited/changed the character a bit and I undoubtedly have a LOT of work to do to get back proper such as making a new carrd, glamours, mods, etc. But I’m working on it and taking it bit by bit! I have other characters and alts, too, that I’m going to be updating/posting about as well.

Name: Zheval Seltik (Val) Age: 36 Race: Viera Gender: Male (He/Him) Occupation: Mercenary/Bodyguard/Sword for Hire Timezone: CST, but I can make most things work as long as it isn't beyond 2AM CST. RP Style: I can do semi/multi-para and everything in between. I usually change my posting style to match the tempo of the RP. Ideally I'd like to get involved with others that also enjoy writing so I can improve my style and skill. A sample of my writing can be found here, having just recently posted it to get a feel for the character.

OOC: Hello! I've been playing since launch and RPing for far longer--as far back as old school Ayenee RP chats, through WoW (Silver Hand/Moon Guard - WotLK), and many others. I'm returning from a bit of a hiatus and pretty much all of my contacts are gone, so I'm starting over! Character rebuild, catching up in game, and so on. As for what I'm looking for--Zheval's always been a combatant. He can't read/write very well and it's a typical amnesia story to justify starting over. I love exciting RP-conflict, mystery, combat, adventuring, slice of life, mature, dark, etc. I'm happy to also do hangout/slice of life RP and take things a little slower, but I see him getting into tournaments for the thrill of the fight and, hopefully, being hired by an FC or individual as a guard, mercenary, or hired hand of some sort. All that to say I do have a carrd, but it's incredibly out of date. That's going to be resolved soon and is my first priority. The general idea of the character won't change, but obviously some things will be different as he's operating in a bit of a fog. I Am Looking For

In-Game RP -21+ RP partners/friends to RP with in game. I'm okay with Discord, but I'd rather do within the setting/game itself.    

Long-term RP -So the character can naturally grow and evolve. I'm not looking for relationship/ERP for the sake of having one. He has priorities and, if those ever come to completion, then maybe the possibility will open up. But I want things to progress naturally and organically and right now it's not on his radar.

Themes -I'm up for just about anything! Dark, mature, casual, criminal, heroic, adventurous, whatever. I can fit this character into just about anything as-is and welcome it!

Hooks

Bodyguard/Merc - He has previous work as a guard and is currently doing that to make enough coin to live. 

Tournament/Arena - Host a tournament? Know one? He's down. Underground, seedy dives feel right to him for some reason. 

 Ul'dahn Native - Speaking of-does your character often visit Ul'dah/Central Thanalan? Maybe the bridge just near the Grindstone? That's his home when he can't afford a room in the inn! For some reason, it comforts him. 

Amnesia Experience - Does your character have experience with amnesia? Dealing with it themselves? Think they can help him learn who he was? He'd be more than willing to hear their story and form a bond. 

Exploration - So much of the world is a fog to him, and the littlest thing stands to awaken a memory or feel familiar to him. If your character either wants to help him dig through the fog or just an adventurous sort to explore the world, count him in! 

F.C. - Does your character's initials match F.C.? The ring is all he has to go on as to who he was, and any such person is immediately interesting to him. 

Enemies - A member of his past? Want to torment him? I'm all for it! 

Frienemies - A member of his past that used to hate him? Want to start a love/hate relationship where they’re constantly trying to one-up and cause problems for each other? Let’s go!

 Ideas! - I'm up for anything else so long as it isn't much more than lore-bending. There's likely a lot I missed and I'm more than open to new ideas!

Hey there everyone! I was inspired by some friends to finally make a new introduction post, this one for me and my system. I am an endogenic soulbond system named the Dragon Soulbond System. I am married to my in-system spouse Vandarian, and we plan on sharing more of us and our system together!

About Our Relationship

Vandarian and I have been together since the 29th of December 2015 and married in May 8th 2018 (this is a guess since we were going through trauma at the time and don’t remember our exact marriage date) and we have three beautiful soulbond children! I’ve been host to a soulbond system since I was very young but didn’t know until recently that I was part of a system or what it was called, I just called things my own words until I learnt of the term soulbond and endogenic systems. I feel so much happier being able to connect to my soulbonds in a better way which is awesome! We thought we’d make a proper post for everyone to know about us :)

I apologise for the old art, this is the only full reference I have of them that I’ve drawn, but I plan on redrawing them!

Vandarian is my spouse. They are from a species of alien called Bluuven (they don’t like being called alien by most people though as it has bad memories tied to it) and they are two years older than me. They are incredibly intelligent and can build almost any sort of technology, and can also grow sweet plants with their magic. They’re very sassy and have a lot of energy, and they’re very protective of me and my soulbonds. Van has DID, schizophrenia, autism, PTSD, anxiety and depression, and we help each other through the things that are upsetting us. They are very talented at many things such as dancing and singing, and they love showing off for others by looking good and showing that they’re very talented in the stuff they can do. They have tentacles in their back and they have mind reading abilities which are both from their species but they also have some unique abilities other members of their species don’t have. They are an absolute sweetheart and make me so happy

One thing about your blog - NGL, i had to take a look at your blog theme just now cause I realized I've never actually seen it, but wow! The running thing here seems to be everyone liking simple blogs, but your carrd is sooooooooo pretty wow! I'm in awe and blessed, and so glad i finally took a peep. Your blog is super pretty.

One thing about your character/portrayal - Your roleplay style is also very simple and easy to follow along with, which is really nice! You have a good hold of your muses as well, and even the most simple understanding of the characters make them super loveable. It's absolutely refreshing against mine, which I know i tend to go hard on actions and thoughts my characters do. It gives me a nice way to chill out a bit to match.

One thing I like about you - Youre really super freaking nice. That's probably not the most creative thing one can like about someone, but I really, really like nice people (probably because im mean as hell tbh) and youre just so nice to chat with on the side even tho i know im dry as a bone when it comes to conversations iueoeoe im sorry.

     Hey, y’all! I haven’t done one of these in awhile, so I figured this was a great time for a little state of the Stark update! First of all, Happy New Year and other holidays, depending on what you celebrate! Hope everything’s been restful and pleasant for everyone. I’ve been up and down for a few months, thus the lack of activity over here, but I’ve been quietly (somewhat) working on things for the blog. You may have noticed that an army of asks were posted, bringing be down to a mere four left in my box, which I’ll be trying to post sometime soon. I’m sorry to say that I did throw out a load of them because I had a shockingly huge backlog, but that just means that more can fit nicely in there! I’m currently doing the same with drafts, and I’m down from something over 100 over the past like 2 months to a manageable 20s as of today. Some I’ve responded to and they’re posted or in my queue, and some I’ve deleted - if you don’t see yours, ask me! We can either pick it back up or start something new!      I’m still operating on the Legacy editor, but I’ve started poking at the Beta for mutuals who have it, so if you do, feel free to let me know and I’ll repost a starter/ask/etc in beta for you or move a thread over.       I’ll probably be doing a starter call here soonish, namely when I get my draft box cleared out, so keep an eye out for that or just hit me up in IMs/disco and we’ll get something rolling! 

Carrd || Muses || Verses

     At the moment, I’m still in pretty aggressive Stranger Things brainrot, which has meant adding multiple muses, so go ahead and take a look at my carrd to see if anyone interests you! Steve is still going to get the fastest responses, but I’m branching out a bit into some characters I haven’t played before. Marvel verses will be available for all (as well as other verses, of course, as I get to them), but my actual Marvel canons are a little less noisy right about now. I’m looking into a few other types of universes, including Final Fantasy, so if that’s something you’re interested in or curious about, hit me up! They’ll have modern/marvel verses as well, so no worries there!      Overall, just come chat if you wanna! So this is a deviation from my usual content, but...

I'm never going to have a Carrd. I find the whole concept of putting everything about yourself on the internet disturbing, especially because it's not like everyone tells the truth on the internet. People lie. Carrd is just as unreliable as asking ASL on an Omegle text chat (those were the days, anyone else remember Omegle RPing?) or any other chat roulette, or even multiplayer games. It's just as unreliable as the bio on a tumblr blog. And if you are telling the truth about who you are, that makes it easier for dangerous people to find you. It's not necessarily likely, but it's definitely possible.

And putting your triggers out there, in my opinion, is just a way to say to people looking to do you harm, "Hey, this is how best to hurt me". Most people would 100% be willing to not bring up topics that trigger people. But not all.

Tumblr is a hellsite full of people from all walks of life, on all sides of arguments. And in every group, there are people willing to, or even deriving pleasure from, causing harm to others.

I'm not saying that Carrd isn't important or useful in some cases! And if you vague your deeply personal info, it's perfectly fine to use to say "Hey, this is the stuff I'm interested in!"

But I won't use it, because the way it's used at the moment is a severe invasion of privacy and a bright flashing sign declaring who you are and what might hurt you to everyone, friends and enemies alike.

I regret to inform my followers that I've fallen headlong into Dream SMP lately, and it’s one of the wildest media experiences I’ve ever had. Some of it reminds me very much of the SCP Foundation experience.

It previously existed in my consciousness as "that fandom that shows up on my dash as either a very weird textpost, or fanart that's 50/50 about Dream SMP or Homestuck." The actual media delivers on inexplicability. I think of it as the Untitled Goose of fiction, because every aspect of it radiates chaos and it causes problems everywhere it goes.

In brief: The Dream SMP is a private multiplayer Minecraft server. A bunch of Twitch/Youtube streamers roleplay on it regularly. It grew a “plot” based on improv which later became somewhat scripted in advance. There are arcs, seasons, worldbuilding, factions…

Some meta reasons I love it and compare it to the SCP wiki:

Non-linear.

If you want to get into it, your best bet is starting with a list of youtube videos on a carrd. Or watch 20 million hours of livestream vods. Or summary videos / “movie” edits made by hardworking fans. Either way, you will miss some stuff.

Everyone is literally the protagonist of their own streams.

The in-character/out-of-character line is blurred.

It didn’t actually become a roleplay until a while into the first “season”. Only a few events are scripted, and I get the impression the “script” is pretty freeform.

Obviously this sometimes becomes kind of a problem for, like, inappropriate fan interactions, which is tough and which I don’t want to trivialize.

Anyhow the line is very blurred within the universe too.

E.g. Technoblade canonically hears his Youtube livestream chat as voices in his head. Nobody else does, except for when they do.

Decentralized ownership and storytelling.

Canon is a spectrum – some things are clearly comedic “bits” and some things are well-established worldbuilding – but there is so much leeway in there.

E.g. At one point, there’s a marriage. The streamers in the marriage now disagree on whether the marriage was canonical or not. But it's not a big deal.

This is real SCP wiki "there is no canon" energy.

You can watch the same event from various character's perspectives and get totally different takes on the same event. (short non-spoiler example)

Unusual delivery format.

You don’t expect emotional depth or great creativity or horror or etc out of a Let’s Play… but my god, you will get them here.

Fun exercise: Grab your boomer parents and try to explain your latest interest to them.

Amateur storytellers.

I mean, they’re making a living from it, so they’re professionals now. But the average server age is 22 and it grew out of a casual hobby, and you can tell.

Every single stream, including the very dark introspective ones, have a bunch of chaotic banter and dick jokes.

There are these really serious bits except that the characters are named things like “Quackity” and “BadBoyHalo”.

This is the polar opposite of a polished narrative.

Many of them – and I say this with great, great love – are not amazing actors. It still works. The vibe is more “a bunch of friends fucking around” then, like, "watching a professional TV show.”

Mechanics are integrated in interesting ways.

Sometimes for plot:

Ability to gather resources – skill, the amount of time they spend digging for material, cool builds and contraptions, etc – do influence how much power they have.

But also sometimes for storytelling or expression - this is Minecraft, you know, the Blocks Game - the actors don’t really have access to normal body language. But it turns out you can fit a lot of meaning into crouches, gentle hits, jumping, looking around, what item you’re holding, what you’re wearing.

Sometimes this is hilariously dissonant:

E.g. Someone saying “look at me” to make emphasis, and the streamer has to look at… the expressionless minecraft head of the person? It’s such a vibe.

Sometimes it’s delightfully innovative and format-specific.

E.g. There are no chairs in minecraft, but there are a lot of occasions in real life where people sit, so people will use staircase blocks as dining chairs, couches, etc, and then either crouch or stand on the block to "sit". In a recent stream, during a conversation, one character went to a crafting table, made a staircase block, put it on the floor (of the other character’s house), said “you’re going to want to be sitting down for this one,” and then refused to proceed until the other character was standing on the staircase block.

A lot of these players are really good at the game, among the best in the world. Some aren’t, or at least aren’t on that tier, which is also endearing.

So if you know Minecraft, then there’s a lot of competence porn, but it's interspersed with a lot of very familiar gameplay.

They also do some non-Vanilla-Minecraft elements. They’re not common, but they keep you on your toes.

And most of them are subtle but also, like… for characters living in a minecraft world, if you’re familiar with the game, the phrase “canonical access to Creative Mode” will and should strike fear into your heart.

author’s note: i wrote most of this in the middle of the night because i was having a bad day and had no one to talk to because it was the middle of the night. writing is how i help get out how i feel when no one is around to talk to, so this was born. most of this imagine is based off how i feel and what i’ve experienced when feeling this way

One day. One day you will wake up and you won’t feel like this. One day you will wake up and not feel like a burden to everyone around you. One day you will wake up and not feel like staying in bed and crying all day. One day you will wake up and not have these thoughts of “no one will miss me if I just disappeared”.

That day is not today.

The minute you opened your eyes, you knew today was going to be a rough day. All these feelings just hit you like a truck from the minute you woke up. It’s just unfair that you haven’t even started your day and you already feel like this.

The worst part is that you have to deal with your roommate, and who you think is the devil reincarnated, Charlie. He’s not working today and you have to leave your room because you do have plans to go see your best friends, Savannah and Madison. Yes, you met them through Charlie but you’ve bonded with them and now they’re two of your closest friends.

You stare up at your ceiling until your alarm goes off. With a groan, you roll over and turn it off. You have texts from Sav and Madi in the group chat that you have with them. They’re asking when the three of you should meet up and where you should meet up. You decide to ignore those texts and take it on hour at a time.

First thing first, though. You need to deal with your roommate.

Honestly, you don’t remember how you ended up with Charlie as a roommate. All you know is one second you were living with your best friend from home and the next you were moving into Charlie’s apartment in Venice. In between is a little fuzzy.

You get up out of bed and put on a hoodie to cover up your tank top. You tie your messy hair in a bun before you wrap your arms around yourself and leave your room.

The smell of bacon hits you and you emerge from the hallway that leads to yours and Charlie’s bedroom. You spot Charlie in a sleeveless t-shirt and khaki shorts. His hair is down and in his face as he cooks on the stove.

Against your better judgement, you sit at the kitchen island and watch Charlie as he cooks breakfast. “I hope you’re not planning on eating what I’m cooking,” he says. “What I’m cooking is for me and for me only.”

With a sigh being your response, you don’t say anything. It’s too early and you’re in too bad of a mood to deal with Charlie’s snarkiness.

When you stay quiet, Charlie turns and looks at you. Surprise is written all over his face as he says, “What, no snarky remark? That’s very unlike you, Y/N. You always have something to say.”

“Not today, Charlie,” you say, rubbing your face. “I’m too tired to deal with you today.”

Charlie asks, “Stay up too late watching Sex Education or something?”

You mumble, “I don’t wanna talk about it.” Then you get up and walk back to your room. You accidentally slam your bedroom door shut and you wince at the loud noise.

It felt good to slam something though. You eye a book sitting on your bedside table and you chuck it at the wall. That felt really good. You grab a pillow from your bed and you throw it at the door.

Everything you’re feeling comes at you all at once. Everything hits you so hard that you begin to cry while you throw things around you’re room.

You’re tired. You’re tired of waking up and feeling like ending it all before the day starts. You’re tired of dealing with your asshole roommate, who definitely doesn’t make things easier when you have days like this.

You’re so fucking tired.

As a vase flies across the room, your bedroom door opens. A concerned Charlie stands in the doorway, looking at you with a dumbfounded look on his face. “Y/N?” he asks, getting your attention.

“Get out!” you yell at him, not meaning to yell. “I mean it, Charlie. Get out!”

Charlie’s face hardens and he says, “No. I won’t get out. You’re crying and throwing things around to the point where we might get a noise complaint against us.”

You stare at him and you say, “I honestly don’t care about a fucking noise complaint, Charlie. If someone has a problem then they can come to me.”

He looks at you and asks, “What’s going on with you today? You’re always in a good mood, well, until you’re around me.”

“I’m never in a good mood, Charlie,” you sigh. “It’s all a façade. I’m miserable. I’m so fucking miserable. I wake up and don’t want to get up for the day. I wake up and feel so sad before the day even starts. I’m tired of it.”

Charlie slowly approaches you. You’ve started sobbing at this point. Hesitantly, Charlie hugs you. Deciding to not fight him, you embrace the hug. You wrap your arms around his torso as he wraps his arms around your neck. You rest your forehead on his shoulder and the two of you stand in the middle of your room as you cry.

Both of you stand for what seems like hours, embracing each other. You just standing in Charlie’s arms and crying. He eventually starts to run his fingers through your hair to soothe you.

When you stop crying, you look up at Charlie and he says, “I may be a pain in your ass sometimes, but I do care for you, Y/N. I do, believe it or not. I do apologize if I’ve made you feel miserable or upset when you woke up like that.”

You nod and say, “You have made me feel miserable, I won’t lie.”

“Ouch, Y/N,” he says, smiling. “I’m trying to help you out here and you say that.”

With a small smile, you say, “Sorry, but it’s the truth.”

Charlie laughs and says, “I know. I’m sorry too. Do you, um, want to maybe talk about it?”

Almost surprised by the question, you say, “I, um, you probably wouldn’t understand where I’m coming from, Charlie.”

He shrugs and says, “Well, probably not, but sometimes all someone needs is an ear to listen. I’ll be that ear for you if you need me to be.”

You sigh, walking away from Charlie. You sit on your bed for a second, contemplating if you want to tell him everything that runs through your head. You’re nervous that you’ll scare him with some of the stuff that you say. Honestly, you wouldn’t be opposed to that.

“It’s been like this for years,” you start. “Dealing with waking up with no motivation, no will. I’ve never gotten help, and there have been days where I just wanted it all to just stop.”

Confused, Charlie asks, “Stop? What do you mean stop?”

You gently bite your lip, a nervous tic that you’ve gained over the years. “I’ve occasionally wanted to just stop living. There used to be days where I would rather die than live with no motivation or will.”

Charlie’s eyes widen and he asks, “But you don’t think like that anymore?”

“No,” you sigh. “I have things I decided to needed to live for.”

Curious, your roommate asks, “Like what? What do you need to live for?”

After thinking for a moment, you say, “My family, my friends, my fans. Who’s going to be a pain in your ass if I just died? Plus, there are things I want to achieve before I die so I decided to stay alive.”

He smiles when you make the little ‘who’s gonna be a pain in your ass’ comment toward him. “Well, I’m glad you’re alive,” Charlie tells you. “I really do care about you even though we have our little thing going. If you died, I’d actually be kinda upset.”

You let out a breathy laugh. “That’s shocking,” you say. “Really. Charlie Gillespie caring for me? That’s really shocking.”

“Yeah, well, I do care about the people I love,” he says. Both of you stop when he says that statement. Your eyes widen and you look at Charlie. He looks extremely nervous, like he didn’t mean to say that.

Confused, you ask, “You love me? In what way?”

Slowly and hesitantly, Charlie says, “Romantically?” It’s more of a question than it is an answer.

You blink at him before you say, “I thought you hated me.”

Charlie lets out a nervous laugh before saying, “I never outright said I hated you, Y/N. It’s actually the opposite. I just went along with our little banter because I thought you hated me.”

“I do think you’re the devil incarnate sometimes,” you admit. “But I’ve also never outright said I hated you so ...” You trail off and look at Charlie.

Both of you are quiet for a few seconds before you say, “So, what now?”

He looks at you and says, “Whatever you want, Y/N.”

Slowly, you say, “Stay with me for a little bit? No smartass comments are allowed though.”

A smile forms on Charlie’s face as he says, “Your wish is my command.”

An hour ago, you were dreading seeing Charlie. Now, you’re glad that he agreed to stay with you. It’s crazy how that happens.

hello,    hello,    hello    !    i’m  rolling  in  fashionably  late  in  true  desirae  style    !    i  am  carra,    24  years  old,    goes  by  she  /  her,    from  the  cst,    and  super  stoked  to  be  here    !    i  haven’t  been  in  a  group  in  so  long,    like  literal  years,    but  i  seen  kat    [  fully  just  disclosing  that  i  follow  on  main  lmao    ]    post  the  teaser  graphic  and  i  was  literal  heart  eyes.    i  almost  didn’t  submit  my  app  bc  i  was  scared  that  i  wasn’t  making  the  cut,    but  i  pushed  through  and  i’m  so  glad  that  i  did  and  that  we’re  all  going  to  be  writing  with  each  other    !    my  app  is  super  long  and  i’m  in  the  works  of  tidying  things  up  and  adding  more  depth  bc  i’m  a  perfectionist,    but  i’ll  link  my  favorite  little  bits  under  the  cut.

the  carrd  for  starters,    it’s  still  under  construction,    but  you  can  find  her  statistics  and  just  some  little  blurbs  i  thought  was  cute.

her  favorite  colors  are  maroon  and  money  green.

at  one  point  of  her  childhood,    around  age  8  -  9,    she  actually  yearned  for  a  sibling.    after  spending  so  much  time  around  the  bouiette  siblings,    it  was   inevitable.    the  desire  was  cut  short  when  she  realized  that  she’d  have  to  share  everything  she  owned  with  said  sibling  if  she  ever  got  one,    and  when  that  thought  popped  into  her  head,    she   made  sure  to  never  comment  on  it  again.    looking  up  at  her  parents  with  those  big  doe  eyes,    snuggling  up  to  them,    and  making  sure  they  knew  that  she  ‘had  the  best  family  ever,’    and  that  she  was  more  than  content.

she  writes  almost  everything  down  as  soon  as  it  pops  into  her  head  (  not  wanting  to  risk  forgetting   amid  everyday  activities  )  on  whatever  is  nearest  to  her  at  the  time.    whether  it's  her  phone,    a  notebook,    etc.    she  has  various  voice  memos  [  not  entirely  all  just  her  voice  displayed  on  them  ],    note  entries  labeled  with  the  date,    and   sticky  notes  in  her  purse.

despite  what  people  may  think,    desirae  isn’t  perfect.    the  young  adult  gets  into  her  fair  share  of  mess  just  like  everyone  else,    she  just  knows  how  to  clean  it  up  properly.    if  she  needs  to  point  attention  to  her  peers’  mistakes  to  sweep  her  own  under  the  rug,    she’ll  manage  just  fine.    most  of  the  time,    the  tabloids  that  do  make  the  cut  are  in  her  favor,    and  if  they  do  catch  her  by  surprise,    she’s  quick  to  swing  it  whichever  direction  she  needs  to.

constantly  outweighs  the  pros  and  cons  of  the  decisions  she  makes.    sometimes  the  cons  win  out,    but  she’s  game  to  test  the  odds,    most  of  the  time  it  turns  out  in  her  favor.

her  instagram  and  stories  are  calculated  from  the  content  all  the  way  down  to  the  sappy  captions.     her  recent  feed  consists  of  first  class  flights,    dinner  dates,    outfits  of  the  day,    fashion  tips,    and  throwbacks.

isn’t  the  type  to  flat  out  spill  her  drink  on  you,    but  somehow  she’s  magically  there,   settled  in  the  background,    and  somehow  uncharacteristically  quiet  when  it  happens?

has  never  had  an  actual  romantic  relationship,    but  has  been  coy  enough  to  keep  all  of  her  entanglements  out  of  the  public  eye  which  she  believes  puts  her  at  an  advantage  when  it  comes  to  the  love  club.    ironic  to  the  name,    the  brunette  doesn’t  let  distractions  get  in  her  way  and  keep  her  tied  down  to  anything  besides  what’s  truly  important.    or  at  least  that’s  what  she  believes.

has  her  belly  button  pierced,    both  standard  and  industrial  lobes,    and  her  grandmother’s  birthday  in  roman  numerals  tattooed  on  her  left  wrist  that  she  revealed  in  an  exclusive  video  with  elle,    just  after  her  nineteenth  birthday.

has  to  often  remind  herself  not  to  enjoy  the  love  club’s  commentary  in  the  group  chat  too  much,    and  often  mutes  it  when  they  manage  to  get  a  genuine  smile  out  of  her.    it  never  lasts  for  too  long  though,    because  she  can’t  miss  out  on  any  subtle  hints.

how do you get into roleplaying on a ff server? like how do you do it and how do you know if your character is lore compliant? ;A; pls youre a big inspo to me

*Hugs Nonny* Getting into RP on a FF server can vary; I don’t actually RP much these days, outside of some friends I already have connections to--and that in itself can be difficult just due to Life! It can take time, and patience, and some fits and starts.

And this gets...really really long, so buckle up and go below the cut, please. :)

In game there’s always the RP status tag, and just doing RP with folks in public spaces. There may be trolls now and then, but they can be ignored. I personally find Balmung’s Quicksand area too busy and anxiety inducing and not actually all that conducive to actual RP, even “meet at a tavern” walk-up type. But unless you already have a ready-made group of friends/FCmates willing to RP more than some random walk-ups with you, it may take some legwork to find folks you can and want to write with.

Social Media There are a couple of RP community blogs, like @mooglemeet​ and @ffxiv-crystal-rp​  and plenty of server-specific ones. There’s also some Discords for these communities. They host and advertise events and reblog people who are looking for RP contacts. Some of them have running gdoc calendars and in game linkshells and fellowships as well.

Shofie has a good post about Tumblr/social media RP blogging.

It’s a fact now that social media outside game is a way to make contacts, or even a medium for RP itself. There are few centralized websites/forums for server RP communities anymore. Making connections over your social media, like Tumblr and Twitter, can help find RP. You can’t just throw your own character info out there or reblog prompts hoping others bite, though; you have to put in some work and show interest in others, too. This can be difficult and even scary. That’s OK.

RP is about collaboration and creating with other people, which means finding folks you can write with, and who see you as someone interesting but also interested in them and their OCs. If you want to keep it a solo endeavor focused on your own OCs, write fanfic (which I’ve actually made friends and gotten RP interests that way too through comment interactions, so hey).

If you reblog a prompt from someone, see others on your dash reblogging prompts, if people reblog that prompt post from you? Send them asks! Alternatively, don’t wait for prompts, just send asks, comments, or chats saying hello and things you notice or like about their blog/character/posts they make. Try to form connections with people you think are genuinely interesting and might be fun to talk with. Social media should be, well, social.

BUT respect boundaries, too. Don’t try sarcasm or jokes with people you don’t actually know, it tends to go over poorly. Unless someone’s specifically posting a naughty meme/prompt, keep stuff you others send clean and polite, especially if it’s unsolicited and you’re not already friends (doubly so if you don’t know how old they are IRL, there are laws you do not want to break). Respect if people aren’t open to random asks or chatting with new followers, or say “no” to RP, and know it’s not personal--it’s just what they have time, energy, and emotional/mental capacity for. Don’t give up on other people, though. This stuff can take time and effort to find those you click with.

Respect and communication with RP partners is pretty key.

Do curate your feeds and don’t be afraid to unfollow/mute/block folks, either. I’m selective in who I follow and remove as needed, too, for my own mental health. I miss so much of the discourse and drama and that’s fine by me. Also it costs nothing to not step in on a lot of the drama when it does pass in sight.

Profiles I have static RP profile pages for my girls here on Tumblr (and a lot of other static links and pages, but I’m weird about organizing like that). This way, if people want to write with me, send me prompts, if I sent them prompts, or they want to otherwise interact with my characters, the information is handily available. For some folks, this makes all the difference in who they choose to interact with: how easily can they find even basic info about your OC?

Some people make Carrds. Some folks have gdoc links, or use Dreamwidth, etc. Just keep the links in the blog’s sidebar menu, and/or in the blog desc so people can see ‘em on mobile. There are templates out there, or you can make your own. Feel free to snag mine if you’d like. A lot of times people also copy their profiles to rebloggable posts when looking for RP contacts. Profiles are a good way to let folks know just the at-a-glance basics about your character(s).

I picked a simple theme with a simple layout that makes it easy to add and show off links. I put them in the blog desc to make them easy to find on mobile, too.

RP, Stories, Lore Post some stories or RP logs (with permission of others involved) or even just random little blurbs and headcanons, as well as any screenshots, art, aesthetic posts for your OCs. Have something of interest to show for your character, too, so some of those folks your interacting with have something of their own to see and ask about!

If possible, try some light RP with friends and FC Mates who are amenable. Go to events, even if just to lurk at first. When you do get up the nerve to talk to people, don’t try to throw a character’s entire backstory at them, or try to steal the limelight--RP is collaboration, back and forth, and a lot like real conversation. Maybe come up with little light things to talk about if asked; a recent adventuring job, a silly shopping incident, etc. They can break the ice or just give you something to reply with for a few minutes.

Lore Compliance is Variable. Some people really want lore compliance, others are OK bending it here and there, while still others throw it out the window entirely. If you want to be super lore compliant...read. There’s a LOT of information, in game and out, for finding lore; from official publications and website material, to tools like Garland Tools site, to compilation blogs like @mirkemenagerie.

Note what’s important for your concept. Narrow it down. Characters aren’t going to know or be or do everything, so only worry about what’s necessary for the base idea. And be flexible; it’s SE’s sandbox, we just play in it, and they can change things any time. They usually do it in the guise of characters not knowing/having all the correct information, at least, but also some places just don’t exist in game yet so we don’t have info.

I’m unspecific about a lot of elements of Aeryn’s childhood, for instance, other than “traveling merchants near Thavnair.” I don’t have to be super specific. I can keep most details vague, and focus on her family and those relationships.

Dark, as my first character, has a fairly simple backstory that I’ve expanded on and adjusted over time as I learned and came up with new info. I also bet no one remembers I originally said Dark was from the North Shroud. I’ve changed things (now from East Shroud, due to the proximity to Gyr Abania and its Hellsguards) as I learned more about the world and my character. You don’t want to change things willy-nilly, but sometimes being flexible and smoothing down some rough edges and making small changes can be fine, especially as one gets more lore over time.

Iyna has a pretty detailed backstory, that came from a basic idea, and checking dates in the pre-Calamity timeline. I based her being taken and trained the way she was not only on what info we have about Garlemald’s imperial practices with conquered provinces, but borrowed a bit from real life and the re-education schools many Native Americans were forced into (though I haven’t gone into detail on that yet, either). I tied the turning point in Iyna’s life to a major event that wasn’t the Calamity, and have left plenty of space in between for me to fill in as time goes on and I learn more about her and the world.

The world isn’t static, and is bigger and more diverse than what can be shown in the game. There’s space in the margins for plenty of weird stuff and contradictions or unusual cases. So read up on what you can, ask questions, and then find where in those spaces your OC fits. Then, find people who enjoy similar tastes in lore compliance (or non-compliance), and who enjoy playing with you and your OCs, and not worrying about the rest. Can’t please everyone, nor get along with everyone, so don’t try; just find what works for you, and who works with you, and don’t police anyone else’s pretendy fun times, either.

There’s no magic answer on the “right” amount of lore compliance, or how to quickly and easily find RP partners or break into the broader RP community.

@seekesotsibteadmist: What is something you want people to know right away about yourself?

PLEASE REMEMBER I AM EXTREMELY SLOW AT EVERYTHING!!!! I swear, there is a no apologizing for quick or late replies oocly and icly policy in this household because if you message me with an apology over that, you may get my response after a few days, if not a week, and I get so embarrassed like shdjsjd please, don’t be sorry at all. I get every reason behind any pace of the responses, so do not ever feel bad or anything replying to me too late or too quickly. Hell, you can take a whole damn MONTH to reply to me oocly or icly and I’ll still act like I would only be waiting for a day and be like “Ah! My friend! I love you”... But yeah, while I am easily distracted and exhausted to do this stuff, I usually have to reply back to ten to fifteen people oocly, and I will always have many people to reach out to when we haven’t interacted yet ( which if you haven’t interact to me yet, please, this is invitation that you can slap yourself in my IMs Now ), and my social energy / motivation to interact with people? It’s erratic as Hell. Also, I usually take way too much time replying to a post / message when it shouldn’t be the case. Like? For me to reply to a one paragraph in the thread will take me at least an hour to two. If you straight just say hi to me and ask how am I doing, it’ll take me at least five minutes to ten to just answer your very simple question.

I have an intellectual disability that gives me difficulties reading the given information, understanding them, and responding to them at a pace the average amount of people can do, but I can’t. The longest time you can get from me oocly is usually six days. Icly though? Boy, am I a lost cause with that. It can be anytime as I can reply to our thread for a month later, if not longer, I will have to let that be known, lmfao... But you’re more than welcome to give me a nudge for anything anytime. It may not get a quicker response from me anyway, knowing me, but just know that my silence towards you while I’m being noisy on dash or to others or such has nothing to do with you, ever. At least with oocly, I try to prioritize replying to people who I haven’t replied to the longest over those that I have done so recently, but I’m an absolute slow and low mess at everything, so! As that’s something I can never change, unfortunately, I can only wish that everyone interacting with me would be grateful for what we have already.

It’s a 24/7 thing, man. I would just try to distract myself with whatever is in my way to block them, but, yeah, it just really be like that with me. Last night while I was trying to sleep, I kept staring at my window in concern because it had these shadows constantly moving behind the curtains, and there’s that small part of me that KNEW it’s just the tree branches that got caught in the lights of the streetlights, but, my mind kept telling me “they’re coming” and I was just constantly like,, “who tho,,, omg,,,,” but,, think about it,,,, I live in the sixth floor of a building, so how the Hell could the shadows reach up there?¿...

@vsentis & @arsonbeast​: What’s a tip you would give to people trying to get to know you?

Ask me questions from something simple like what’s my favourite colour to something over the top like how often do I get existential crisis lmfao even if it’s completely out of the blue or we don't know each other well yet, I wouldn’t ever mind answering them at all. As well if / whenever you are comfortable, talk about yourself as it will usually prompt me to do the same in return. I often don’t throw facts about myself to others because I think it would have others feel like they would be suddenly placed in a position of having to bring up information about themselves to me and I know not many people are comfortable to talk about themselves and / or their lives when they’re on this Hellsite to write and develop, which is totally understandable and I’m more than okay to be interacted with for just writing / plotting.

On a different note, I am planning to create a Carrd about my interests ( like what shows, music artists, etcetera I’m familiar with ) and slap it on my pinned post so it can give others a chance to get to know me more and bring them up to me to break down any tension from their end, so you can randomly pop into my DMs like “biTCH yOU WATCH B.UZZEED U.NSOLVED!?¡¿” and I’d be like “FUCK YE A H, I DO” and create chaos from there sndnsmd

Beyond important. I personally think communication is THE most important aspect in not just roleplaying, but in general. It’s what builds a strong relationship with the parties. The more they will interact with each other with a lot of patience and understanding, the higher chance that trust and comfort can be built stronger and tighter within a connection. Now, what do I have to say with me? I love talking to people, even when I’m a slow motherfucker at it and I get extremely frustrated and sad at the fact. I love when people talk to me and I can read about their days, personal projects, characters, so forth. I want people to feel that they can trust me and be comfortable coming to me for anything from a random chat to ranting / venting. Man, just straight up slap my DMs with a random photo of a forest and I’ll just not shut up about the time I nearly got lost in the forest.

Now, it does take time for me to reach out to people first, at least usually not because of IC related like plotting calls. For me to come to you randomly and talk about anything not roleplaying related? Again, I can’t be sure if people are comfortable with talking about themselves and their lives, but the more they come to me first for random ooc conversations, the more comfortable I will be to reach out to them first for so frequently. Another thing I do want to mention that if I do or say anything wrong or it’s making you uncomfortable, please? Reach out to me? I mean, I get that people aren’t obliged to teach others and whatnot, so do what you gotta do it the block and follow buttons to avoid wasting more energy and time, but it would truly help a lot with me and anyone else who I am / will interact with in the future. Just be honest with me and share your thoughts to me— I will listen and take them in mind. I absolutely hate to make people uncomfortable without knowing and I would be extremely appreciative if I was told why so I can be more considerate in the future.

Not at all! In fact, I encourage sending me random asks! It might take a bit for me to reply like anything else, but I LOVE random asks! Makes me go “!!!” whenever I see a number on that mail symbol thingy. So, send me random memes, random thoughts, straight up just slap the word, P.ikachu, in the ask and send it to me and I’ll be like, “me fucking too, pal” jsjdkdk

I know I apologize for rambling or taking a long time to reply, but in the end, people being impatient or easily annoyed by me or whatever are my least worries. What I should be more concerned about but am somehow not is if this person actually holds good intentions with a good mindset. Even though I had my generosity taken advantage of way too many times by way too many people who I thought were really good friends in real life and online, I still? Somehow don’t ever think about the possibility that this person is actually very shitty when I interact with them as much as I should, considering how absolutely chaotic this site is. Being cautious is highly draining for me personally as I literally just want to vibe, so…

Just know that I take anyone in who my mutuals haven’t mentioned on their rules page ( yet if I do happen to interact with your abusers or people you’re not uncomfortable with because they’re doing / saying predatory / harmful things? Lemme know and I’ll instantly get out of their hair— you don't even need to give me an explanation, just don’t hesitate to say their URL and I’ll do my shit ), but I will instantly kick them off of my household the moment I see or learn anything from them that is predatory or harmful to people. If you do / say something that I don’t like, like misgender my muses or keep godmodding my muses or whatever, I’ll let you know how I feel, but if you’re gonna be stalking people, being disrespectful / abusive to anyone based on their genders, sexualities, ethnicities, disabilities, etcetera, write / make headcanons based those disgusting things we all know what, and so forth?
