Crawling out of a pit with this clutched in my teeth

Anyway this is sort of the second part to this art from jesus christ barely August. Which I said I do this art style but with Adrien and the chat noir redesign I’ve been playing with over the past three months that I think has settled now.

I’m just going to talk me and my art for a sec now

Basically I’m at the crossroads in terms of my art style and while I don’t have to tumble down either path I feel like right now, I need to focus on one thing. Most of the art I do in the next three months will be in service of something and I’m set on completing it. Majorly that means my portfolio but sometime next year I’m going to push to get commissions again to save for college (ooo spooky) so I hope all of ye will be around for that. But plenty of stuff to finish this side of things!

LORE POST #1

Redesign of my Chat Noir redesign to go together with my rewrite which I will talk a lot about under the cut. I'm pretty set on this design too and will link it at the beginning of the fic when I get ten chapters completed and ready to post :3

What is different from canon, why I am changing some things, etc. Feel free to just read my thoughts around the design if you want to read my fic without any guidelines of what I'm planning so far for him

BUT I won't spoil anything major dw

The design:

I've changed chat noir's design so it would blend in more at night. The preferred the sleek black tones over the glow in the dark green I gave him before. I take a whole lot of inspiration from the PV of miraculous ladybug in these designs so of course his hair is still floofy.

When initially designing Chat noir, the tips of his hair are darker since I really liked that trait some other redesigns gave him so I included it without making his whole head of hair black.

I got the idea to base his design off of rust and RAN with it! He still has some greens in his design but they've shifted closer to yellow green and gold for the color scheme!

I've liked the idea about the clothes in the hero designs looking more cloth like too so I've incorporated that into the design with pockets and a zipper cause I can. Since Adrien has been thinking about being a superhero for a while, his design is more thought out were it could be.

EDIT: Forgot to mention!! Ladybelle has a lil more black in her design and now chat has a little more red! :3 matching

I saw some concept art of Chat Noir with a hat at one point and I loved it so much I wanted to keep it in to a certain extent, SO Marichat moment all the way. I decided to add the bells back into his design (I missed them) and took inspiration from @/callimara's Chat Noir design.

Chat noir will still be very cat like in this and I thought it'd be funky if his feat were like a cat's

Overall it isn't much of a design change for some aspects but I really like how it turned out!

K story stuff now:

I want to get ten chapters done before I post chapters again on the first fic since I don't think I did the best job introducing what I've changed. This isn't talking about adrien agreste's life this is more his role as Chat Noir. I'll get to adrien when I get his redesign sheet finished

(any part of this section might be edited in the future but this is basically part of my ideas)

Fault of canon? -> Solution

I've been developing for two years now and I just gotta write it out... Entirely hinging on my execution sigh

Chat noir's powers are now on a more equal footing with Ladybug's (Ladybelle now) and I'll get more indepth when I post Ladybug's redesign and stuff but basically

The miracle box is a mix mash of several miraculous's from other boxes due to an event Guardian Marianne caused. Supposedly, she unleashed the Rabbit kwami of time on the guardians in an act of defiance. Resulting in rips in time eating away the members present for such an event, burning to death in fire. Marianne managed to run away with the miraculous's she could obtain and do her best to live her life knowing what she's done.

The Ladybug and Cat miraculous are a duo pair. Strongest when used in a partnership. Many are tempted to use both at the same time for what the powers merge to become but this isn't the strongest path.

Tikki and Plagg are soulmates you could say. They aren't really romantic but they are bonded for life. Never one without the other.

They are the only miraculous pairing in the new mixmash of the guardian box. Eventually Marianne gives the responsibility to Master Fu, her lover, before the rabbit comes after her as well.

I'll talk more about the changes I've made to Tikki's character in Ladybelle's post but as a part of the Miraculous cure, something all pairing miraculous's have to purify evils and darkness, it requires both parties to be present. Usually some form of touch or communication initiates the Miraculous cure

"Pound it!"

Chat noir can use his power alone to defeat evils but it's like cauterizing a wound. He doesn't figure this out for a bit.

I'll talk more about the miraculous cure in Ladybelle's post

This is still a part of the story I'm working on but:

the miraculous of destruction gets more powerful the longer the user wields it. With techniques and familiarity, Chat noir will be able to make black pockets of nothing just from a touch. Yes I'm including this from the concept art. Though he'll only get this later down the road

Chat noir is still a form of escapism to Adrien and part of his character arc is realizing he can't rely on it like that. A large part of adrien's character I'll talk about in adrien's post ties into Chat Noir too

I'm still figuring out some plot points for him so this is where I'll end this off. But I will say I'm planning on Chat Noir getting more time with the kwamis and more of a role in the Guardian arc and guardian stuff in general

A ladybug and a black cat

My second (technically third) attempt at redesigning these two idiots. (I just noticed I forgot to scale Plagg down oops)

My “thesis” around them was to create looks that stand out from each other while also working as a duo. Aka not doing what canon did and just putting them in the same outfit with the colours inverted.

So they essentially have variants of a romper. Same exposed shoulders and loose fitting trousers, with the rest diverging. A lot more fun and unique than just solid coloured skin-tight cat suits.

I picture when they first transform, they have their canon looks. But once they defeat their first akuma and confirm on TV that they’re Paris’s new heroes, they have a little montage of trying on different looks until they settle on these. Or even Chat Noir looking like Cat Walker at the start, since he doesn’t know his identity will be hidden, to keep up his Adrien persona. But once he finds out he’s anonymous, he goes with something he actually likes. And same with Ladybug wearing Luckybug’s signature look until she gets her own.

Oh look! It's another redesign!

Here, have this little illustration based on my Ladybug/Chat Noir re-designs, that I've been slaving away at for the past month (we're just gonna ignore the fact that I started plotting out the costumes and sketched the pose a year ago lol). I know, I know. A redesign? Very original. But hey I haven't done it yet, so that makes it different ok😝!

(Gosh, I usually don't post sketches, I feel like this is exposing all my drawing weaknesses lol)

These are some of the first doodles I did. For Marinette I basically looked at some traditional Qui Pao and Hanfu dresses for inspiration and mixed and matched details I liked. I also gave her these little skirt flaps (?? whatever you want to call it) to symbolise the ladybug wings and kept the spots concentrated there. All in all I actually immediately knew what I wanted to do with her costume and pretty much just kept to my first draft, but what really gave me trouble was the hair somehow. I really wanted to incorporate actual antennae (I just think it's cute🤧!!!!) but it got too crowded up there so I had to let them go eventually🥺. In the end I settled for her twin tails pulled up instead of down. To make it look more distinct from her civilian form the idea was also that her hair colour changes to black after the transformation.

Chat Noir on the other hand was so difficult😭😭😭. I honestly like the original design soo much it was hard to think about alternatives. I wanted something that matched better with my new Ladybug, but I don't think I succeeded much. Also I hyperfocused on giving him this little scarf/oversized collar thing in my first doodles because I thought it looked cool and ended up scrapping it because the little bell is just too iconic not to keep lol. As you can tell from the final illustration there is actually not all that much that made it into the final version, except for the sheer sleeves, the shoes, the claw marks and some neon green details. I also ended up giving both of them some gold accents to make them match a bit more. As with Marinette, the idea is that Adrien's hair changes colour a bit after transforming too. So I envision Adrien having more of the smooth platinum blond in his civillian form and a more brown-ish dirty blond as Chat Noir, to go for the whole stray cat look lol.

I might come back to this one day, to re-do their civilian forms too or make these costumes more practical rather than just focusing on aesthetics (But hey if the show does this than I am allowed too😂!)

Chat Noir already has a pretty solid design so I just added a few accents to the suit and changed the boots and gloves. The second design happens after a traumatic incident sometime in season 2or3, causing the white patches. And takes a few elements from Cat-Walker like the ponytail and princely elements.

Adrien Agreste is a sweet guy, a little hopeless in social situations at first but he's trying. Chat Noir on the other hand. Chat Noir loves nothing more than to stir up some excitement. Whether that be an impromptu spotting taking a run through Paris or jumping in on an akuma with a suitable pun ready. Even if he rarely talks to people outside of Ladybug.

So in process of making a page of Chat Noir’s but thought I’d explain and get some help here so I don’t messy up the actual post. I’ll go through each Chat I have included and a little about them and ask for some suggestions of different names or another Chat to include.

From left to right, top to bottom.

Chat Noire- Genderbent Chat Noir

Chat Night (better name please suggest)- Miraculous if it turned you into the animal. A cat with a smoky quality. Adrien would first dress in a homemade Chat Noir get-up and then transform so he could switch between forms in battle without revealing his identity. He can be as small as a regular cat and as large as a house. Gets distracted by mice frequently mid-battle.

The Dashing/Daring Black Cat- English Adrien and a vigilante. A Robin Hood type figure who faces the Red Knight. Of course she soon becomes smitten with his charming antics and eventually switch’s to the side of the rouge, becoming the Ladybird

Kitty Noir- Zoe with the miraculous. Gave her a pony tale because I wanted to

Ladynoire - Marinette ofc

Lord Cattus (please suggest names)- Felix with the miraculous if he was going full morally grey antagonist mode and not masking as Chat Noir. Sort of regal and dangerous, even if he used his powers for good. He would totally act like Batman, all broody and dark. I’m really conflicted on his name because I wanted to go Ancient Greek for cat but that word is already tied up in something…… else

Plagg- Favourite boy

Dark Claws (name suggestions?)- Nino with the cat miraculous. A situation where he’s permanent holder, alongside Alya as Ladybug. Very anti-establishment and uses his power a little irresponsibly. Nino is the type of dude who shouldn’t have such a destruction power, it’s in his nature to protect so he’s fiercely loyal to Scarabella and very reactive. Liable to fall down a dark path. Or Adrien gives it to him one day for the goofs and they terrorise Ladybug

Ears on his hood, a cropped hoodie with a turtle neck underneath and loose jogger style pants. Debating on dropping the mask and giving him black circular glasses (since miraculous hide identity anyway with magic buffering)

Cat Walker- Chat Noir x200 times the Adrien
