All of the comparisons with Poirot etc. are valid, especially considering the Agatha Christie influences on both Knives Out and (especially) Glass Onion, but actually the Golden Age detective Benoit Blanc most reminds me of is Lord Peter Wimsey. Especially with the epic obfuscating chattiness/stupidity. Blanc turns up his Southern Hokeyness to eleven when he wants people to underestimate him; Wimsey turns up his Upper-Class Twit, for the same reasons and in the same way. (And in both cases it’s a play on their own real mannerisms and accent, but they deploy it as a shield and a weapon.) Both are epically courteous, polite, and friendly, but you Do Not Want To Piss Them Off by being horrifying.
Also if anyone wants to write a backstory for Benoit/Philip in which Benoit saves Philip from a false accusation of murder and Philip spends years unsure whether he wants to get together with this man who saved him because gratitude is a terrifying burden, etc... omg I would read the fuck out of that. :D

How do you describe someone being happy?
Describing Happiness
The best way to describe anything is to think about the different senses and how those play a role in whatever it is you're trying to decide.
With describing a character as being happy, if it's a third-person description:
Sight - What happy behavior can be observed in this character's body language, facial expressions, and behavior? Things like smiling, eyes twinkling, laughter, joking, jumping for joy, hugging, clapping, clasping hands in excitement, happy tears, dancing or joyful movement...
Hearing - What happy behavior can be observed by listening to this character ? Laughter, excited breath drawn in, chattiness, giggling, happy sighs, whistling, humming, singing, positivity in speech...
Smell, taste, and touch - These don't tell us a lot about happiness, but you can use these things to convey a happy portrayal. For example, "They reeked of onions and dirty laundry" doesn't exactly exude happiness. But, "They smelled of bright yellow daisies and sunshine" creates a more happy ambience. Same with taste and touch. Things that taste or feel unpleasant don't mesh well with a description of happiness, whereas things with a pleasant taste or feel do.
With describing a character as being happy, if it's a first-person description:
If a character is describing their own feeling of happiness, you can hit on some of the same sensory descriptions, just from a first-person POV. You can also use sensory descriptions of the person or thing that made the character happy in the first place. But another thing you can do is focus on internal cues of happiness.. how the happiness makes the character feel inside. So, warmth on the cheeks, a feeling of lightness/weightlessness, fast heartbeat, intense feeling of well-being, wanting to dance or hug people, wanting to share their joy, noticing happy details like how pretty the sunlight is or how pretty some flowers smell, having a positive outlook, etc.
I hope that helps!

Oikawa x Reader: King
inspired by King, by Lauren Aquilina
one shot,
I just finished pulling an all-nighter cause I couldn't sleep, so forgive me if my writing suffers because of it, I'll take it down if it seems really bad after I sleep haha
I was just too inspired to not write it, I know it's not my usual style, so sorry if it's spamming your feed, I just... really like it. Oikawa is my favorite boi
Tumblr media
Oikawa leaned his head against the doorframe to his bedroom, the silence has a way of taking every thought, and twisting it. Sometimes the calm is necessary, but more often for Oikawa it was a place for the monsters, similar to the ones he believed to be under his bed as a child to swarm his head. Crushed didn't even begin to describe the feeling inside his soul as he walked into the room, giving way to the monsters.
Sometimes, beyond the roar of his fans, the screaming of his friend, even your comforting words, Oikawa found his doubts eroding away at him. Akin to the way that salt slowly breaks down metal into rust, his walls were turning to dust before his eyes.
Your eyes scanned the room for Oikawa, both of you returning home after a grueling defeat. His usually chatty nature on the ride home was complete silence as he stared out the window. the sizzle of ramen didn't distract you from your concern as you stirred, continuing to worry as you placed the green onions on top.
His sniffling was what seized your attention first. As you rushed silently towards the door, gently knocking as you heard the crying stop for a second. You hesitated but cracked the door open just slightly, so only your eyes and nose were peeking in. the sight itself breaking your heart
You ran over and knelt down next to Oikawa, his shoulders shaking with new-found sobs at your presence. he refused your gaze, focusing rather on the rug you insisted he buy. What Oikawa wasn't expecting was your arms pulling his face deep into your shoulder. a hand running through his soft brown hair, with the little curls on the end.
"are the monsters loud tonight?" you asked in a soothing voice as your other hand ran gently over his shoulder blades, applying gentle pressure to soothe the sore muscles as Oikawa relaxed into you, nodding. It could've been 5 minutes or 20. Your sweet voice soothed his mind as he relaxed a bit more, your fingers occasionally leaving his hair to wipe tears from off his cheeks.
"You're so much more, reclaim your crown, my king" you whispered gently into his ear, his grasp tightening as a new flood of tears streamed down, but they weren't the same as before. maybe it was knowing that he didn't have to be alone anymore, it was wonderful having fans but sometimes it was so easy to feel lonely.
There would be many more moments like these, for the both of you. But that isn't a bad thing, for every once in a while we need someone to remind us that 'we lost our mind in the sound, It's time to reclaim our crowns'

Eleanor Starlight - they/them - fem-presenting enby - pansexual
The more chatty yet reserved of the Starlights, Eleanor is the pilot and captain of the SS Eclipse, specializes in data management and planning, and works a job ferrying civilians to and from local planets in their ship. They start planning out trips weeks to months in advance, and manage back-up plans for if/when things go awry. Eleanor was born and raised on Koppai. They have a strong amount of Giyan ancestry on one side of their family. They live with their partner, Hazel. They enjoy wearing dresses, skirts, and anything soft and fuzzy. They keep a keychain of broken keys on their spacesuit as a stim toy. Eleanor doesn't emote through facial expression or body language well at all, but makes up for it through charming dialogues. Sometimes they don't process implied danger until it's far too late, but at least when they are aware of danger they can stay calm and focused.
With the 10th anniversary of their wedding coming up in a few months, Eleanor starts planning a long space-cation that should last around 3-4-months. Considering the length of the trip, they plan out a lot of backup strategies (20+) and bulk buy a lot of extra food in case they get stranded somewhere. And yet, even with all of these backup plans, Eleanor didn't exactly account for a child to stowaway in the ship's storage closet, making the food supply go down a lot faster than it should have. Not wanting to shatter Arelar's young dream of sailing through the stars, and also not realizing just how much danger she'd be in if something were to actually go wrong, they don't address the situation or bring it up to Hazel. Unfortunately within the next week or so, fate pulls the Eclipse near a mysterious uncharted planet, and all of a sudden... something goes wrong. It's only now that Eleanor realizes their mistake. Not having time to tell their partner about the child on the ship as it enters the planet's atmosphere, their first course of action is appointing Hazel in charge of stabilizing and trying to land smoothly while they get their helmet on and comfort Arelar as well as they can. A few moments later, the airlock fails and the ship's door swings wide open and the two get caught in the crosswind. Eleanor manages to pull Arelar back into the ship briefly, but loses their grip and flies out, crashing into the ground and getting knocked unconscious on impact.
Upon awakening, Eleanor quickly tries to get their bearings and realizes two things--one, they're being carried by a bunch of strange little plant-like creatures to... somewhere... and secondly--their helmet is cracked and actively leaking. The leak is slow enough that Eleanor is able to stay relatively calm. Soon, the creatures put them down and they turn around to see a strange onion-like vessel. The light it emits downwards is almost captivating... Are the creatures saying to go into the light? It wasn't like Eleanor necessarily had a choice--their helmet was leaking, they had no idea where the SS Eclipse was, and they were likely to die of oxygen over-saturation soon enough... What did they have to lose? So, somewhat reluctantly, they step into the light, feel themself get pulled upwards, and suddenly... all their senses start fading into blackness.
🍃... Suddenly waking with almost no memory, the only thing Ell can think of doing now is... Dandori. That's... planning and working efficiently... they're already pretty good at that. This shouldn't be too hard.
The only remnants they have of themself are... some jangly keys on their suit that they enjoy the sound of... and a photograph in one of their pockets of 2 people in formal attire at some sort of ceremony... But why does the image make them so sad?

thots, onions, and têtecanons (headcanons but head is in french) on how rickdianes relationship went down.
Tumblr media
OH em gee i imagine rick would have talked to her a lot. just about anything. he would always have something to say or discuss or share, and i think diane herself wouldn't have been nearly as chatty. she just likes to listen and occasionally share her opinion, but ultimately let rick carry the conversation.
i dont imagine diane would have been a very... normal person? i don't know how to phrase it any better, but there was a post months ago ( i cant remember who made it😭) talking about how diane would have had to be some level of fucked up in order to keep up with rick's shenanigans.
i think she would have been quieter, but ultimately a lot like rick. sort of chaotic, and curious, and i think she would have taken a lot of interest in rick's work, maybe even tried to join or help in some way. in the s3 premiere she didn't seem off put by rick sci-fi junk, she was just a bit cautious, since, i would imagine, their garage had suffered more than one fire by that point. IDK they would have been chaotic and weird and i think they would have had a really bad sense of humor with each other

STORY TIME
Yesterday I was getting a sports massage (I do martial arts) and I got a male masseuse and we really vibed in a kindred spirit way. I know a lot of people don’t talk to their masseuses but I’m chatty and it makes it less awkward and I love hearing people’s stories as a writer.
He’s into martial arts too and used to have a dojo. I was dressed in my normal people clothes, but he picked up I was an “old soul hippie and a punk” and we chatted about all the cool hardcore bands we’d seen. Guy met Danzig. He also surfs. We talked about cosplay. Whole nine yards. Okay, that’s not the important part here….
Guy used to be a local cop, which I really didn’t see coming based on his résumé. He’s got long hair and 100% was aligning my damn chakras during this session while wearing a hardcore band hoodie.
Ok…but he wasn’t just a cop. He specialized in CULT CRIMES.
Okay, by this point I am sold. I am 100% booking with this guy again even if the massage is just okay because I just want the tea.
(For context: I listen to conspiracy shows, supernatural shows, and have written extensively about disinformation, propaganda, & cults in an academic and journalistic context.)
So…he tells me that in West Virginia… like COUNTRY ROOOOOOADS TAKE ME HOME… West Virginia by God—there was a black mass in the 90s with like 60 people and an attempted virgin sacrifice.
But for some reason, that wasn’t the most shocking story he told me.
It was the one about the cultist casting black magic IN THE OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE ON COURT STREET (ATTACHED TO THE DANG MALL).
In front of the bloomin onions and everything.

Everything You Need To Learn About The Culture of Rishikesh
Introduction
Rishikesh, also known as the “Yoga Capital of Uttarakhand”, is one of the holiest cities in India. This tourist destination is famous for vegetarian food, meditation sessions, scenery, shrines, etc. Camping in Rishikesh is also very popular. Priests and Sadhus are here to give preachings and other religious learnings. You can see authentic Hinduism culture here once you make a tour. You must have got delighted by now after hearing all this. Excited? So we are! Take a look at what Rishikesh has brought in store for you.
Situated alongside the holy river Ganges, this city has many wonders that would win you over. People here are kind and friendly. They have golden hearts, which tourists often like. This is why our country has been called an “Incredible India” by foreigners. Rishikesh culture has probably let India enter the good books worldwide.
Delicacies in Rishikesh
You can enjoy ‘Satvik Bhojan’ in this beautiful town. Everything is vegan and cruelty-free. You can enjoy several delicacies such as bhajiyas, Chinese, north Indian, naan, etc. Cafes and restaurants are well-equipped for tourists. Non-veg is strictly prohibited. Bars and Clubs are nowhere to be found, making this place more authentic. Prasad served in Mandir is also very mouth-watering. You can enjoy creamy masala chai, samosas, aloo puri, and south Indian also. Even non-vegetarians would find the vegan life enjoyable here. Various street food is available alongside Triveni Ghat and Geeta Bhawan Swargashram. You can visit camps looking for pure Satvik food without onion and garlic.
Festivals
People celebrate several festivals together here. These are Holi, Diwali, Basant Panchmi, and International Yoga Day. Music Festival is also a major favourite among the netizens. Priests do Aarti beside Ganga Ghat during Durga Puja, which every tourist enjoys. You would see beautiful floating Diyas during Diwali in rivers which are appealing to the eyes. Nobody can find such a pleasant celebration anywhere else. Another famous festival is the Kayak festival. It marks the boating competition among people.
Camping in Rishikesh
Camps and Ashrams are major attractions in Rishikesh. You can learn different types of Yoga here. These contain well-maintained libraries having religious books like Granthas, Geeta, and much more. Other scriptures related to Hindu mythology are also great. Again, you can enjoy an enormous number of delicious vegan food here. Some of these Ashrams, for example, Phool Chatti, have beautiful gardens having pretty flowers. Others are situated beside hills and valleys. You can learn about Himalayan teachings also. Some of these conduct seven days long Yoga classes that require prior reservation. Different types of breathing techniques are introduced to calm your mind and body. In other words, one can attain salvation here.
Sports
You can enjoy adventure sports here, such as
Boating Competitions: You can participate in this during the Kayak festival, or you can even enjoy boating as it is.
Bunjee Jumping: This form of sport is quite popular worldwide. You can also try this out if you are strong! However, those with cardiac issues are not suggested to try this out.
River Rafting: Rishikesh is famous for River Rafting only. You can enjoy the beauty of the River Ganga through this sport at affordable rates. It is the favourite activity of foreigners here.
There are other sports also, such as Hot air Balloons, Rock Climbing, etc. All these are a demand of the new generation. You must give these a try at least once in your life.
Conclusion
The culture is quite elite here, and so is the Camping in Rishikesh. Nobody can stay away from the charm of this town once they make a trip. All the rituals and religious practices are eloquent. You should just plan a trip once before believing us. We promise you will never want to go back after getting lost in this serenity!

12/29/22
Another few weeks gone and here we are at the end of the year. Mom brought me Covid from Mexico lol. I only felt real-time, really sick maybe 3 days. After that I was pretty medicated and overall I felt like I only had a bad flu/cold whatever from when I was younger. Can’t believe we finally got it. Seems to be no lasting side effects. I wasn’t very hungry but thank goodness I never lost my sense of smell or taste. Talk about losing all joy from life lol. A chatty client I spoke to yesterday told me her son had Covid two years ago and never got his tastebuds back. Her daughter took 6 months to get them back.
This morning I had a terrible dream. Was at a library that somehow was also a vet office. I was there with Billy, my very first cat, cause he was sick, but I never saw him, he was already “in the back” or whatever. My mom was with me. I can’t remember the other random things going on anymore but after a while I spoke to someone who basically said there was nothing more to do and we decided it was just time for him to go to sleep. It was sad but somehow we just drove home. Then I was at a table or something and then I realized, wait I didn’t tell them WHEN. I have to be there, they wouldn’t just do it without me, but maybe they would cause I left??? And I was panicking wondering if I could get there soon enough or would I be too late. I was just full of terror. And that was when I woke up. And then my mind remembered that I was NOT there in reality. My young stupid self had not wanted to see it, thought I couldn’t see it. And it’s one of the biggest regrets of my life.
Side note I finally finished Rings of Power and I am now obsessed with Galadriel and Halbrand. The ship they kept trying to push you toward before the big reveal. I got on that ship and sailed away. What is it with dark and light? Wanting the opposites to come together. Haladriel and Darklina. Things I want that I’ll never have except in fanfics or in my mind. If I dive into it, I wonder if there’s something in there that would tell me about myself if I could only understand. The fanfic I read is all about angst, and wanting, and being torn. Does that exist in real life anymore? Does it only exist when you’re young and stupid?
Wednesday on Netflix was really good. Better than I initially expected and even the overdone social media didn’t deter me from really liking it. Even there she falls for the monster. And the other side of the triangle was a tortures artist lol.
Emily in Paris season 4 was also very good. So much drama. I feel so bad for Alfie, he didn’t deserve any of that. And I’m actually proud of Emily for minding her onions or whatever lol.
Also been watching a ton of Hallmark movies since my mom can’t really watch anything with too much violence or sex lol.
Off starting this afternoon, back to work Tuesday. Happy new year!

I am grateful for...
No more mercury cavity fillings! I sought out a functional dentist to replace the mercury fillings in my mouth. It wasn’t cheap, but it was an area of my life I’m willing to spend on. I’ve had these mercury fillings in my mouth since I was a kid. I don’t want to risk low-grade metal poisoning as the fillings degrade. Alzheimer’s? No, thank you.
Easily satisfied parents. They are truly easy going. I ordered a bunch of Northern Chinese wraps and meat pockets on UberEats. Bernabe was so happy to bring a simple green onion pancake beef roll to work.
Team Ling. I reached out to a couple of friends when I needed support. I didn’t need advice, I didn’t need constructive feedback, I needed friends whom I knew would be on Team-Ling. And indeed on Team-Ling they were.
Meeting Boyfriend’s family. I had a great time. The brothers were nice. And the mom was a lot more chatty than Boyfriend had described. It was a jolly night.
Reduced appetite finally. I’ve been over-eating for months. I suspect my ghrelin hormones were disrupted post orthorexia nervosa. So I’ve had a hard time feeling satiety. I out-eat my boyfriend and I out-eat my 20-something male co-workers, consistently. However, my appetite has been shrinking. It’s still huge, but it’s trending in the right direction. Slow and steady, that’s okay - I’m not looking for fast changes.

France day 13 part 1
Become addicted to breakfast in the room.
A lovely little trolley arrives packed full of delicious treats. Delivered by a little lad from Northern Ireland.
Tumblr media
Today we are going to the Foundation Maeght in St Paul de Vence - it's a very short drive from the hotel and we park in their second car park and walk the 250m up hill to the main entrance. It's a lovely small museum with some great modern works of art. There is an enormous Chagall which is very fun and a labyrinth designed by Miro. It's housed in a wonderful modern building.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then lunch at the colombe d'Or in the centre of town - unsuccessfully try to park at the closest car park and drop Laura off and go back to the previous car park - it's a short 10 minute walk down hill to the restaurant. I give my parents a quick ring as I walk there.
It's very hot in the little courtyard and even though we are underneath an umbrella it's very very warm. The famous thing about the restaurant is that various artists paid their bills with artworks rather than cash. There's a Picasso on the way to loos. I hide in the toilets for a bit to splash water on my face and try to cool down - a lady suprises me by coming out of a secret door in the gents toilets. I return to the table and we order a special hors d'oeuvres and then ham and figs and cheese. The hors d'oeuvres is enormous with about 20 small bowls of lovely food and a big basket of raddishes, chicory and celery on the side.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The waiter's all had amazing moustaches. There was so much food - but it was all lovely the chicken forcemeat with courgette and onion was particularly fine. We cancelled the cheese but stuck with the ham - and fortunately he brought it with melon rather than figs - in a lovely bowl of iced water. The lovely cool orange charantais melon and Parma ham was just perfect. I went and collected the car and came back to get Laura and then we went back to the hotel for a swim.
The pool at St Martin is gorgeous with plenty of room for both swimming and lounging. We sat near a lady who was very busy planning her pop up shop in Paris which along with her PowerPoint presentation were quite irritating - I wish people wouldn't do business meetings by the lovely relaxing pool. I decided to investigate the spa and it looked lovely - so I decided to go and have a quick gym session and then a steam and sauna. I know it seems strange when I was moaning about how hot I was at lunch to volunteer to go into a really hot room but there is something about the heat and quiet that I like. I also figure that maybe I can train myself to be better in the heat...
A nice local beer at the pool after the exercise went down a treat. The gardens are lovely as well and we wandered through them and looked at the lavender and the private Cabanas and swing chairs attached to ancient olive trees - it was all rather lovely.
Quickly dress for dinner and then enjoy another round of cocktails in the courtyard.
Tumblr media
We had the same great table by the edge of the patio looking out over the Provenceal countryside towards Nice. In the distance we could just about hear a rock concert - it turns out alt-j were playing in Nice - it was the 4th July so we wondered whether the Americans would be letting off fireworks.
The waiters checked on whether Laura was feeling better after the previous night's early exit.
Nice starter of aubergine topped with fresh fennel. Sightly weird main course of chicken topped with a peanut crisp.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our neighbours light decided to go slightly crazy and flash on and off - making it like a bad 90s rave.
Our lovely friendly chatty sommelier lady was back and we had another great bottle of wine.
