got approved for a rental house and will finally be able to move out of this god awful apartment, but the whole process makes me so angry. like moving costs alone are expensive but it’s also all of the unnecessary added fees they tack on. the concert ticket thing is the big discussion but housing application fees? convenience fees for processing a card? like anything extra they can squeeze out of you on top of too expensive rent it’s fucking insane. people can barely (not really) even afford 3x rent, and it’s getting to the point that you need three incomes just to afford one place. like this whole process has made me so angry, and i’ve been angry about it for a long time, of course. but also just looking around and seeing just how many houses are for rent, that aren’t going toward families bc these investors and venture capitalists continue to buy up houses. i genuinely want to know how any of this is going to be sustainable, even within the next three-to-five years.

#before i got my new job there was no way we'd ever really be able to move even with 2 salaries #the rent is 'cheap' where we are only bc we've been here for 11 years #but the issue is that they haven't maintained the place and we've had to fight management to deal with mold #and im pretty sure the HVAC system is fucked bc the bill for it is fucking insane like it should not be that much a month #but ofc they won't do anything about that either bc why not #im so happy to be out of here next month but it really means putting us in a paycheck-to-paycheck situation #instead of having just a small amount of cushion #all of this makes me so angry that all of us have to deal with sub-par conditions #this also means there's no chance for me to try and save for a house #not that i ever though that would be in my reach but at least that money would be in savings #im just venting about this bc im also made that the area i grew up in wasn't ever this expensive #and with ppl moving here bc it's 'cheap' has driven up pricing and gentrified everything

Okay, so... I tried searching for crochet and sewing supplies online, and... it turns out, materials are expensive. :/ So I guess that's part of why I hadn't thought much about making or selling stuff before. (although $36 worth of yarn to make one thing sounds like I must've done the math wrong, because that's a lot of balls of yarn, and why wouldn't one ball of yarn make one item? So it can't be that expensive.)

But would anyone be interested in buying something I would hypothetically make if I were to buy a bunch of yarn and/or fabric and/or a sewing machine?

Like... keyboard cushion with filling, sleeveless jacket/cloak thing (I just think that would be neat), scarf of some sort, curtain tiebacks, pencil holder, ...some random custom-made thing that you can't find at the store...? Maybe weird blankets and throws?

I... thought I would be able to think of more things than this.

#if I had a sewing machine and some fabric I would be able to take the stitching out of a pair of cheap jeans #and turn them into a cool-looking pair of wide-leg pants.#...without worrying about ruining the jeans and/or my sloppy hand stitching falling out.#I would love to have a nice pair of wide-leg jeans... they're never sold in stores. (sigh)#And with a sewing machine I could modify a shirt to make it sleeve-optional. Shirts would look really cool with custom sleeve stuff.#And that cloak idea would be neat. Though I wish I still had the cloak-pin my mom gave me when I was a teen. I'd had no idea what it was.#It was a gold-colored circle. She'd said it was a brooch or something but it hadn't made any sense for just pinning to a shirt.#but as a fastener... it would've been pretty.#I've made two computer cushions for myself in the past ten or eleven years. (couldn't find one in a store)#they flatten after a few years with the filler I'd bought but they're not bad (and my newer one is washable like a pillowcase).#I made some green fabric belt tiebacks as well as fastener rope tiebacks. (...they're available in-store but I didn't like the styles.)#More recently I've made a pencil holder out of some heavy-duty black fabric (with green trim).#(because putting my pencil in my pants pockets was shredding my good pants)

The television blasted out the sounds of the happy, cheering gathering of people while boisterous music played behind them just as the clock struck midnight. Two long-stemmed glasses filled with cheap champagne sat bubbling on the crowded coffee table, untouched. Even right outside the window the sounds of celebrating could be heard as people took to the streets to spread their joy through the cold night. And yet everything was completely forgotten and faded into the background as the two people sitting on the couch became lost in one another.

Simon's large hands were wrapped around your delicate cheeks, pulling your face tight against him as heated, moist lips captured yours over and over without a single thought to what was happening outside the space between you both. All he could comprehend in that moment, all that he cared about, was the taste of your lips, the warmth of your body, the soft touches from your fingertips grazing over bare skin that made his mind fuzzy.

He had gotten a little too eager, started the celebration a little too soon, as it was the first year he wasn't stuck in the barracks alone and isolated as those all around him celebrated with those that meant something to them. Now he was with someone who he cared about more than anything in this world and so things had already gotten ahead of themselves… not that either of your minded.

Eyes staying closed, he grabbed your hands within his, lacing his fingers into the empty space between yours, and gave them a tug in a silent request to move in closer. Carefully, with mouths still connected, he helped to situate you over top of his broad lap so that you were comfortable. Straddling his thick thighs between your legs, knees shoved into the couch cushions on either side, you wrapped your arms around his neck as your fingers sought to play with the short strands of hair at the back of his head.

Your touch was met with a deep-throated moan from him, causing his hands to reach behind you so that his palms could fill themselves with as much of your ass as he could hold between them through the fabric of your dress, massaging that voluptuous curvature in slow, circular motions as he pushed down to guide your hips to gently grind against him. The scant fabric at the crotch of your panties meant that you could feel him press up into you the longer you moved, that bulge growing steadily since he first pulled you into his kiss.

His exploring mouth began to travel down from your lips to your jaw and then on to your neck where he nuzzled into the crook of it as he latched on. Sharp teeth nibbled at the tender flesh at the base of your neck, quick bites that had you tingling from head to toe.

A loud group outside shouted and laughed, which caught your attention and drew you back into the reality outside of Simon’s body. “I think we missed it,” you moaned breathlessly into the room as his lips sent another wave of pleasure rolling straight through you. “It’s already past midnight.”

“Didn’t miss a fuckin’ thing, sweetheart,” he groaned as his hands roamed up a little higher to secure themselves around your waist. “This is the only way I wanna bring in the new year.”

Minutes passed by wholly ignored as if time itself had stopped while large hands pawed at your lap as your hips rolled over top of him. The friction was divine and mixed with the overwhelming feeling of your lips embracing his own and it wasn’t long until it felt like his entire body was on fire.

Suddenly you felt Simon shift beneath you and all at once your body being shoved back down onto the cushions as he loomed over top, crushing your body into the surface as he positioned himself in between your legs.

Your lips were left cold as he broke the kiss to sit back on his calves as calloused digits pushed the bottom hem of your dress up to your waist, leaving your hips exposed with nothing but a small bit of underwear to cover them. His breath got caught in his throat for a moment as he took in all that beautiful, warm skin, the flush of your cheeks, the swollenness of your lips.

His angel heaven sent.

There was a saying Simon had heard that said what you did on the first day of the new year dictated how it would go throughout the rest and though he didn't believe in old wives tales, he wasn't about to jinx a good thing. He wanted the next 12 months to be filled to the brim with moments like this.

“Let’s start this year off right, yeah pretty girl?” he smirked as his fingers hooked into the waistband of your panties to slide them down your tights and right off your legs.

“With a bang.”

(Miniature) couch restoration

I found this couch ( with a bunch of other things I didn't care about) for 2$ at a second hand store

Finding dollhouse miniatures is kind of rare around here so I grabbed it, I thought at worst it would be a cheap MDF off of AliExpress or something and I could repaint it, but once I scraped a bit of the paint off I was pleasantly surprised to find a nice wood finish!

There was at least 3 to 4 layers of paint through (⁠‘⁠◉⁠⌓⁠◉⁠’⁠) (white, gray, maybe white again and finally pink)

Out of curiosity I pried up the fabric which was obviously not the original, to find another unoriginal fabric and pried that up too and that was still not the original 🤣 matroshka doll of upholstery

After huffing 99% alcohol and paint brush cleaner for probably 5 or so hours I ended up with this

I left the back and seat of the couch rough as it would be covered in fabric anyway, it looks like that maybe at some point this got sanded in a few spots? I fixed it up by finally using my furniture repair markers as intended (mostly I don't think they had mini furniture in mind)

You can see on the left half where I tried different colours to see what would match best

Now new upholstery! I only had the original couch cushion seat so I decided to just redo the whole thing in silk of corse (⁠｡⁠•̀⁠ᴗ⁠-⁠)⁠✧

I wanted it to look a little worn so I picked this really textured blueish green/cream dupini silk
