one thing i find really difficult about navigating the IF space is the direct line of contact between readers and authors. we share the same space, and i think that plays a big part in this weird blurred line we have in this community and overall lack of boundaries.

for a lot of people this is a fun hobby and while i personally try to keep it... semi-professional most of the time, it's easy to get wrapped up in having fun on tumblr (or the forums, or reddit, wherever it is that you mainly post/interact) and have a lot of personal interactions with both readers and authors alike - which is fun! i like it more often than not, but i also think that's why a lot of comments in this space can end up being really entitled, over-familiar, and inappropriate.

it's no secret that most authors get really weird messages on here, and while this is also a problem on social media at large and not just specific to IF tumblr, it is still definitely a big problem in this community.

and to be clear i'm not saying that you can't be friendly with authors or readers (i've become friends with a handful of readers myself) and i definitely don't mean to imply that there needs to be a huge divide between us; that's silly - again, most authors are readers, most readers are authors, we’re just people on the internet sharing the same space. but all of us deserve to have our boundaries respected. this is my story, and we are strangers. as a general rule of thumb: if you wouldn't say it out loud to someone you just met, you probably shouldn't be saying it to a stranger online. especially anonymously.

#i also think this is why some criticisms get so messy in this space as well #authors should not always be in the same space as the readers/reviewers #and readers shouldnt be able to directly @ authors with their extremely negative reviews esp when it's subjective #(‘’i hate this’’ as opposed to pointing out genuinely harmful content or other criticism) #for everyone's sake #& on a kinda related note: speaking as someone who has been receiving targeted harassment for *checks watch* over two years now #some people really need to reevaluate the way they interact with certain media #i think IF feels very personal due to the interactivity and the customization of the mc #but not everything is written for you. and it's fine to just not like something #without sending weird harassing anonymous messages for 2 years straight to a stranger on the internet. lol #honestly criticism is another can of worms and that's not really what i'm talking about here #but i do think that's also part of the entitlement and overfamiliarity as well #so imo it's connected a little bit. something to think about #at the end of the day my advice to other authors about this is to know your limits and know when you need to extract yourself #and know that you don't have to respond to every ask #especially if it makes you uncomfortable #and im definitely not trying to sound like the authority here this is something i've struggled with as well #like i said it is hard to navigate #and authors can be guilty of this too. wanting to defend yourself or insert yourself into conversations where you shouldn't #i've done that myself #and i've also had other authors i dont know be way overly familiar with me in the past #all of this is just an unfortunate part of online community i think. but im trying to be more mindful about it #anyways. this post brought to you by the weird messages in my and my friends' inboxes lately #i just think you should not be telling authors about pesonal bodily functions in anonymous asks #as an example. lol #personal

The song “Letter”

Just one thing I want to say...

When Jungkook said the dumpling incident was more than what we’ve been told, that it was serious shit... let that be a reminder that it is possible that not everything we see or hear is the total truth. That everything they show us or tell is us is possibly NOT the whole story. 

It’s not that they are lying to us or giving us half-truths, on the contrary, they want us to know the catalyzing moments. But divulging the less-than-savory details, or details that are too personal, takes away from the point of sharing the moment. I hope that makes sense.

That being said, on the surface and in general, “Letter” is a song for Army. To Jimin, who wrote the song, his music is for the fans in general. He frames the song as one for the fans. We all know what he says is true. ALL of the music is for fans. That’s why they are doing this for a living. And this song is one he wanted to single out as special, and he wanted to offer it in a special way by having it “hidden” on the CD. 

Yet, many interpret the meaning of the song as something else, as is their right to. The song can have multiple meanings to different people. And that is exactly what music is for, to be interpreted in many, many ways that can resonate within us.

Those of us who acknowledge the special relationship he has with Jungkook interpret their relationship along the lines of: this is “possibly NOT the whole story.” 

And Jimin maybe acknowledges that by having Jungkook participate on the song, knowing that the song can now have another more specific and personal meaning applied to it. Jimin knows we know that. They both know we know that. Is there a “level” of this meaning that needs to be applied? No. We all are allowed to interpret it to the level we are each comfortable with.

The general fandom will see it as a special song even more so because another BTS member participated. And that’s it. Which is ok. 

But there are those who specifically do not want the song to be interpreted that way at all in any way shape or form and they spend an inordinate amount of time and energy trying to knock down those interpretations. Why do they spend so much negative energy on that? Who knows? 

Does Jimin need to come out and explicitly explain other meanings for the song? No, why would he? Why SHOULD he? He already said its a song for and to Army. We know where his heart and emotions were when he wrote it. Just because he doesn’t openly explain other meanings, does not mean there is only one interpretation of the song. IT IS ART!

Interpretation of art is the attribution of meaning to a work...giving meaning to a work. This process is subjective, meaning there is no right or wrong way to interpret the meaning of a work. We schlepp our own personal emotional baggage in everything we do and it is through this lens that we view and react to the world and that includes art. 

Where we often get hung up is whether we agree or disagree if the artist’s intention is relevant to how it is interpreted. 

Did Jimin ONLY mean for us to take his literal words as the meaning and then STOP, no other meanings apply? Or do we also include his literal action of having Jungkook, a specific member of BTS, participate on the track as a specific intention? 

If you don’t get it, that’s ok, it is just something that I’ve seen a lot of debate about and now I’ve said my piece.

Keep in mind that Jimin is an emotional animal. He lives, breathes, speaks, expresses himself with emotions. He is not a surface skimmer. He literally wrote songs about his literal emotions. 

For his sake, think deeper and be a good human.

Ugh, another romantic comedy, Boston Dumb Fuck! Not your strong suit!

Considering your recent dubious track record, your clear emotional impediments and your complete lack of self awareness that you actually "love love", this new movie may be a bigger risk than you think.

And besides, do you think you can handle more than one movie a year? Could we as an audience handle that much BDF in a 365 day period? But I guess you did sell your soul for this deal so may as well reap the rewards while the camera can still capture your image.

I don't need to tell you that you can't afford another failure. We know "Red One" is going to be another huge stain on your professional canvas. The cult movie has potential if you can actually humble yourself enough to listen to the director, as well as trust the voices in your head you have been trying to shush for years (if you haven't already, get going to that therapist, because if done right, this role has the potential to release some unknown darkness you have been shoving deep down. Use it, but be wise- you have seen what damage can be done when you let the personal and professional bleed into an indiscernible blob).

But "Pain Hustlers" had potential too, and you just lazily phoned that one in with your typical-as-of-late "tell, not show" performance style. Tell me, when one of your movies falls in the forest, does it make a sound?

I don't know about this romantic comedy though. There are good people around you, but to paraphrase a line from a great film, you may be a smart man, but you don't know what the fuck love is!

Similar to your tone deaf pursuit of a political life with ASP, it is hard to image a man so bereft the comprehension love, could you ever have the context to portray it in any form of veracity on screen. I believe this goes back to your blockages and that darkness you have suppressed. It all comes out no matter how hard we try, and it has manifested for you in this true-life horror love story of yours. No one who truly loved love would have agreed to any of this, let alone go to the depths of deception and despair your warped fairy tale has taken. You have crept into your own brain portal (a la "Being John Malkovich") and have been stuck there so long you don't know what is real and fake anymore. How could you be expected to portray a romantic character of any interest when the one you have become in real life is simply sad and grotesque?

If you don't want this to be another embarrassing failure added to the heap, make this a priority of knots you need to untie with that therapist you should be seeing. Otherwise, it's yet another selfish act that will waste the time of everyone around you, for an opportunity that could have gone to someone who was truly hungry for the chance to try.

Terry has been with beta boys…but what about beta girls? Has Daniel ever had beta crushes? Are there any pairings considered “abnormal” or “wrong” in this verse? Like for instance, an omega/omega or an Alpha/Alpha pairing or maybe more than two people in a relationship. Do couples like that exist? I can understand omega/omega since they’re soft and tender, but I feel like Alpha/Alpha would destroy each other just to be the more dominant one lol.

So an Alpha bites an omega and gets bonded. It kinda seems to me that because this only happens with omegas, and Alphas apparently can only bite and “claim” an omega, that this Alpha/omega pairing kinda has a one up over lets say, Alpha/beta. Or in general, all other pairings, since no other pairing has this chemical bonding that an Alpha has with an omega. It also makes me think that Terry decided to “bite” Daniel during their honeymoon because he was in love with him, and knew he was his true mate and…instinct?

Speaking of all this, since omegas get heats, but heats themselves are only truly satisfied by an Alpha, does someone like Apollonia feel somewhat dissatisfied that Michael can’t truly satisfy her like that? Or does Michael feel like he can’t give Apollonia as many pups as perhaps an Alpha could? Do female Alphas have knots?

You see this is where I get into trouble with my desire to test the limits of a trope. Omegaverse was written because people want heat sex, soulmate type bonding between Alphas and omegas, and betas seem to only exist to have someone be an omega all along, oops! Nobody ever seems to write beta/omega, and indeed what about heats and getting pregnant without them? Heats are very sexy, but what is their purpose exactly, if omegas can get pregnant by anyone, which I think is the reason they developed as a gender?

I think omegas, and especially younger omegas, have heats to attract an Alpha to have many puppies quick. If they're being kept separate from Alphas they have fewer heats, and if they bond with a beta, Apollonia indeed will have fewer heats. I'm just going to go with omegas being extremely adaptable, and if there are no Alphas to be had, they'll deal and start getting pregnant outside of heats (which Daniel's body didn't learn to do because all his heats have been well satisfied since Terry). It is uncomfortable having a heat with a beta, and Apollonia will assure Michael she never liked them anyway (which may be true, as she's had to suffer through her heats alone before marrying Michael). Apollonia may even think Daniel a bit slutty, indulging in all those marathon sex sessions.

The Catholic Church is massive on the Alpha/omega propaganda though, o my God. Still, some omegas don't like Alphas, because people are more than their biology, and Michael was a rich American. There's no rule you can only marry betas after you've already had pups! And the proper procedures were followed, so the Priest kind of reluctantly gave his blessing, especially since the head of the family was an Alpha that could keep Apollonia safe. Omega/omega is frowned upon for the same reason, because they "belong" to an Alpha. Alpha/Alpha is frowned upon since they can't have pups, so female Alpha/male beta marriages are also not looked upon fondly! They're to "teach each other how to care for a real mate", the beta learning to take charge from the Alpha and the Alpha learning to take care from the beta. Which, ya know, is dogma, and not necessarily how love works.

Female Alphas have knots but they don't decide to bite - if the mating gland swells, that's the omega deciding to want to bond completely and forever. You need a bit more time with each other, usually, though it could happen during the first heat. Theoretically, an Alpha can decide NOT to bite, but that's like deciding not to breathe. If you do that, you'd better get out of there quick.

i've recently had what one could call a falling out with a friend outside of tumblr that has made me think a lot about something and i'm here with an advice: not everything is about you. we all are at the age of being called grown ups who should understand. because someone isn't online sharing their struggles, either mentally, financial or even physical, doesn't mean they're not going through something. we are all fighting a battle, and to some, its personal. for example, not once did this person i had a falling out with, approached me after my lack of communication to check on me, all they did was send a whole long ass paragraph on how they don't wanna be my friend anymore because i simply am not licking them 24/7. and even if i wasn't going through something, some people are just... quiet. some people are busy, some are going thru shit, and it's not because they're not making it the only thing they talk about that we have to invalidade their struggles and assume x and y. don't waste a friendship for lack of empathy. i beg you. <3
