Mega Man Zero Thoughts
Overall positive, but...
I was a little underwhelmed
I was expecting more RPG features
Admittedly, I played on casual, so I started the game with all ELF's unlocked (I think)
But only 3 weapons and 3 elements was a little lame
Especially considering the moveset was so basic
I did enjoy the breakneck pace and beating the game so fast
Did not enjoy replaying levels two or even three times
Liked the boss designs and personalities
Liked the plot
Animations beautiful
Love twirling the sword in midair
Love the casual mode and auto save system in the collection
The game definitely grew on me the longer I played
I was happy to see the most innovative Mega Man game since literally the first one in 1987
That's right, this game changed more than Mega Man X did, fight me
I still have no idea how the ELF system works
I am looking forward to the seemingly superior Zero 2-4
...but first is the (rumored) slog that is Mega Man X7
I did enjoy very much the fact that it just...*felt* like a GBA game, even if I didn't ever play it as a kid
Overall just a bit barebones but not bad
Definitely way too hard without both the casual mode and checpoints
Especially that god awful bomb defusal mission
Anubis might be my favorite boss yet just in terms of design
I can't wait to see how Zero 2-4 evolve this formula

Quick reminder;
If anywhere in the U.S you are on a major highway (or just anywhere in general, but highways are more prominent with this issue) and you see any sign stating that there is a narcotics checkpoint up ahead, do not believe it. 10/10 it's near exits so that if you were to get off at that exit, they could state "oh well, you got off the highway as to avoid the narcotics checkpoint" and would be seen as probably cause to bring a dog around and if they get a hit that's probable cause to search your vehicle.
Narcotics checkpoint ARE ILLEGAL in every state, there is no narcotics checkpoint ANYWHERE on that highway.

A while back, on Duolingo, I finally got everything to golden up to the 6th checkpoint with my German Tree. There’s still 2 checkpoints to go (8th is the final after which there’s nothing, at least not with this old tree) and I have done about 80% of the tree now. The 7th checpoint has everything on the 1st level at least and I’m now working on getting those to the 2nd level, but the last checkpoint still has majority of the skills unlocked.
I feel like I’ve made lots of progress with this tree and that I have improved my German A LOT. I seriously feel that I can see that in real life now when I listen to German music or watch videos where people talk in German.
But now, now I feel like I have reached again that point where I just do these exercises but don’t memorize a thing. I learn from mistakes and I memorize words better if I have to repeat them several times because I keep failing. But now there’s so many new words that I don’t know and have to learn articles of, I can’t use the key feature because I would just fail them anyway. So I will do the exercises and there you can always hover on the words to see a translation and also the article. Which means I don’t fail unless I make some stupid typo like write “wi” when I should write “we” and have to repeat. So I just feel that I learn absolutely nothing about those words because I keep passing but I don’t need to think, I just hover and there’s the word. Sure the words appear there more than once but it’s as if I never saw the words in the first place, I didn’t memorize them the first time so when I see a new sentence, I remember seeing the words but I cannot remember the translations so I just hover again. And don’t memorize a thing. So I feel now that I’m not getting anywhere and when I keep passing the exercises, I won’t see them again (unless I use “Practice” through Duome, but here I don’t really get that reward so my brain feels it’s not worth it) because the next level will have more and different sentences.
Could be that these first levels just are too easy for me because when I was working with those last levels with the previous skills, I was actually also doing something, I was learning and failing a lot which led to me learning and actually memorizing the words eventually. This just has too many new words which, I of course, could just check from a dictionary, but I want to see all those words and not just ~20 sentences out of 5x20. With some skills I have had to write down stuff in my notebook and teach myself more about those because I encountered some grammar things I didn’t know even exist. I actually didn’t even know “future perfect” is a thing even in English - we don’t have future NOR future perfect in Finnish so I have always applied the Finnish way for the English future perfect.
But anyway, I hope something will still stay in my memory from those words. It just feels the same as when I was at school and tried to rehearse for exams by reading notes and books - I always felt that it does nothing because everything I read felt so obvious and waste of time. I have had this in every school and actually I was in junior high already when I literally asked my mom “how to you rehearse before exams?” (in Finnish we say “read for the exams”) because I legit did not know what it means. For about 6 years before that I never did this, I knew we had an exam coming and I just went to the exam without rehearsing because I didn’t know how that is done. And in junior high I tried to read stuff the day before the exam but it was extremely difficult because I kept falling asleep under the books, or got distrcted constantly and caught myself from staring at the walls and thinking things that had nothing to do with school. I remember having this even in vocational school before my exams, I would read through the papers and everything I had written and everything just felt so obvious that I felt stupid when reading. But when I went to the exams, my head was empty and nothing was obvious anymore. I only remembered things I was interested in - I really didn’t need to even read about those because it all was already in my head. But the rest? No amount of reading would have been able to put that info in my brain so I did poorly on those. Passed, but not with great grades.
I guess I will try that practicing thing through Duome if this feels like I can’t remember the words enough, or maybe I should try writing them down in a notebook and do the only thing that I knew how to do even in middle school: word tests. English word tests were the only ones I knew how to prepare myself to (if I just remembered about the tests, which I often did not...) because it was so easy with those word lists: just hide the translations and go through that list as many times as it takes for you to finally start memorizing those words. That’s the only method that works for me 100% but you can use that with word tests only and pretty much everything else needs other ways of practice and just reading has never been that for me, I need to also do something but especially as a kid and teenager, I never could come up with anything that would have helped. And apparently I didn’t do that either when I was on my 20s and in a vocational school...

Hi! It’s me! I’m wearing Finland’s national costume, because our country’s independence turns 100 years today! It is an impotrant checpoint, because we have always been small nation between two old superpowers Sweden and Russia, and had to fight many wars against them to stay independent. I respect everybody, who has fighted for our freedom and independence in the past. And at the meantime, let’s have great independence day, and be proud of our brave and “sisukas” people and our beautiful country!
