love the idea of learning chemistry as a new language. the various naming conventions coming together just like verb conjugations.
my chemistry teacher talked about certain terms for chemicals becoming outdated, like saying "cupric acid" because they dont follow iupac. something romantic is attached to these antique terms, supposedly going out of use despite the heaps and heaps of research attached to them

Analytical chemistry, baby.
I don't know if you've ever had one of those subjects that you just don't get but you can't identify why... Well, for me it was this right here, I honestly wanted to love it but I couldn't until I realized it was because of the Dr imparting it.. Let me say, that woman made me cry a lot, once even in the classroom. I guess that's why I have love-hate relationship with analytical chem.

That time when I needed to study for a test that was about my complete science degree (it's a test that's taken nationally) and I started studying less than a week before. 😳 Not a fun time, but I got a really good grade. I'm allowed to brag sometimes, don't judge me 😂

💉💊💊Classes of ANTIBIOTICS💊💊💉 Bacteria themselves can be divided into two broad classes: ✔Gram-positive ❌Gram-negative The classes derive these names from the Gram test, which involves the addition of a violet dye to the bacteria. Gram-positive bacteria retain the colour of the dye, whilst Gram-negative bacteria do not, and are instead coloured red or pink. Gram-negative bacteria are more resistant to antibodies and antibiotics than Gram-positive bacteria. 🔘Beta-Lactams Beta-lactams are a wide range of antibiotics, the first of which to be discovered was penicillin, which Alexander Fleming identified in 1928. They are mostly used against gram-positive bacteria. 🔘Sulfonamides Prontosil was the first commercially available antibiotic, developed in 1932. It has a relatively broad effect against Gram-positive cocci and Gram-negative bacteria. 🔘Macrolides The macrolides are mainly effective against Gram-positive bacteria, however, they act in a bacteriostatic manner, preventing growth and reproduction by inhibiting protein synthesis. Their effectiveness is marginally broader than that of penicillins. 🔘Oxazolidinones Oxazolidinones are active against Gram-positive bacteria. Linezolid, approved for use in 2000, was the first marketed antibiotic in the class. 🔘Ansamycins This class of antibiotics are effective against Gram-positive bacteria, as well as some Gram-negative bacteria. They inhibit the production of RNA, which has important biological roles inside the cells of the bacteria, and as such leads to the death of the bacterial cells. 🔘Quinolones Quinolones are bactericidal compounds that interfere with the replication and transcription of DNA in bacteria cells.
