Tumblr media
Qi Wei - singer/actress (girl on the left in above gif)
Publicly stated she is bisexual, rumored to have dated fellow actress Phoebe Lin. Happily married to a man and has a 9 year old daughter with him. This only seems to mean no matter how gay she acts on this show she can still claim it's all for show
Tumblr media
He Jie - singer
During an interview within the extras of this show was asked "if you were a man which of the contestants would you like most". Answered "why would I have to be a man to answer this question, I've always liked women" and "when I was little I only liked female celebrities". Had also married a man but since divorced him.
Tumblr media
Liu xin - singer
She's 39 and to my knowledge unmarried. I'd like to believe I have a shot.
Tumblr media
Chen lijun - Yue opera singer
Day job involves her playing male roles and romancing women. Large female audience. However... married to a man
This show has been unfathomably successful in the past few years with many a kpop idol competing (Fei and Jia former Miss A - s1, Jessica Jung former Girl's generation - s3, Amber Liu former f(x) - s4, and Nicole Jung former KARA - s5).

Geologists challenge conventional view of Earths continental history stability with new study
In a study led by Illinois geology professor Lijun Liu, researchers used previously collected density data from the Earth’s uppermost rigid layers of crust and mantle — known as the lithosphere — to examine the relationship between craton surface topography and the thickness of their underlying lithosphere layer. The results of the study are published in the journal Nature Geosciences. The lack of deformation within the cratons since their formation makes them the longest-lived tectonic units on Earth — surviving supercontinent cycles like the formation and breakup of the supercontinent Pangea, as well as the lesser-known and more ancient supercontinent Rodina, the study reports. “It is generally accepted that the cratons are protected by their thick underlying mantle roots, or keels, which are believed to be buoyant and strong and thus stable over time,” Lui said. Several recent papers from Liu’s research group directly challenge this wisdom by showing that these mantle keels are actually quite dense. In a 2022 study, the team demonstrated that the traditional view of buoyant craton keels implies that most of the Earth’s cratons would be sitting about 3 kilometers above the sea surface, while in reality, their elevation is only a few 100 meters. This requires the lithospheric mantle below the crust to be of high enough density to pull the surface down by about 2 kilometers, Liu said. In another study, the team used gravity field measurements to pinpoint the density structure of the craton keels to find that the lower portion of the mantle keel is most likely where the high-density material resides, implying a depth-increasing density profile below the cratons. In the new paper, the team shows that the lower portion of the mantle keel that has a high density and tends to repeatedly peel away from the lithosphere above when mantle upwellings, called plumes, initiate supercontinent breakup. The peeled-off — or delaminated — keels could return to the base of the lithosphere after they warm up inside the hot mantle. “The whole process is like what happens in a lava lamp, where the cool material near the surface sinks and the warm material near the bottom rises,” Liu said. This deformation history is expressed in some of the more puzzling geophysical properties observed in the lithosphere, the study reports. “For example, the repetitive vertical deformation of the lower half of the mantle keel allows the seismic waves that vibrate the rock vertically to travel faster, compared to the upper half of the keel, which experienced less vertical deformation,” Liu said. The team also determined that mantle delamination will cause the craton surface to rise, leading to erosion. “This is reflected in the strong dependence of crustal thickness on lithospheric thickness, an observation never made before this study,” Liu said. “In particular, there are two major uplift and erosion events in the past, when supercontinents Rodinia and Pangea each separated, the former causing what is known as the Great Unconformity — a feature in the Earth’s rock record shows no evidence of new deposition, only deep craton erosion. This is the reason why we see pieces of ancient lower crust exposed at the craton’s surface today.” With the help of numerical simulations, the team said that this episodic deformation style of the lower craton keels is how the craton crusts survived the long geological history. “We believe this newly hypothesized lifestyle of cratons will significantly change people’s view on how continents evolve and how plate tectonics operate on Earth,” Liu said. Illinois geology professor Craig Lundstrom and Illinois graduate students Yaoyi Wang, Zebin Cao, Lihang Peng and Diandian Peng; and Chinese Academy of Sciences professor Ling Chen contributed to this study. The National Science Foundation and the National Natural Science Foundation of China supported this research.

A Guide to Taiwanese Name Romanization
Have you ever wondered why there are so many Changs when the surname 常 is not actually that common? Have you ever struggled to figure out what sound “hs” is? Well don’t worry! Today we are going to go over some common practices in transliterating names from Taiwan.
With some recent discussion I’ve seen about writing names from the Shang-Chi movie, I thought this was the perfect time to publishe this post. Please note that this information has been compiled from my observations--I’m sure it’s not completely extensive. And if you see any errors, please let me know!
According to Wikipedia, “the romanized name for most locations, persons and other proper nouns in Taiwan is based on the Wade–Giles derived romanized form, for example Kaohsiung, the Matsu Islands and Chiang Ching-kuo.” Wade-Giles differs from pinyin quite a bit, and to make things even more complicated, transliterated names don’t necessarily follow exact Wade-Giles conventions.
Well, Wikipedia mentioned Kaohsiung, so let’s start with some large cities you already know of!
[1] B → P 台北 Taibei → Taipei [2] G → K [3] D → T In pinyin, we have the “b”, “g”, and “d” set (voiceless, unaspirated) and the “p”, “k”, and “t” set (voiceless, aspirated). But in Wade-Giles, these sets of sounds are distinguished by using a following apostrophe for the aspirated sounds. However, in real life the apostrophe is often not used.
We need some more conventions to understand Kaohsiung. [4] ong → ung (sometimes) [5] X → Hs or Sh 高雄 Gaoxiong → Kaohsiung I wrote “sometimes” for rule #4 because I am pretty sure I have seen instances where it is not followed. This could be due to personal preference, historical reasons, or influence from other romanization styles.
Now some names you are equipped to read: 王心凌 Wang Xinling → Wang Hsin-ling 徐熙娣 Xu Xidi → Shu/Hsu Hsi-ti (I have seen both) 黄鸿升 Huang Hongsheng → Huang Hung-sheng 龙应台 Long Yingtai → Lung Ying-tai 宋芸樺 Song Yunhua → Sung Yun-hua
You might have learned pinyin “x” along with its friends “j” and “q”, so let’s look at them more closely. Deng Lijun → Teng Li-chun This is similar to the case for the first few conventions, where an apostrophe would distinguish the unaspirated sound (pinyin “j”) from the aspirated sound (pinyin “q”). But in practice these ultimately both end up as “ch”. I have some disappointing news.
[8] Zh → Ch Once again, the “zh” sound is the unaspirated correspondent of the “ch” sound. That’s right, the pinyin “zh”, “j”, and “q” sounds all end up being written as “ch”. This can lead to some...confusion. Zhang Xinzhe → Chang Shin-che At least now you finally know where there are so many Changs. Chances are, if you meet a Chang, their surname is actually 张, not 常.
Time for our next set of rules. [10] C → Ts [11] Z → Ts [12] Si → Szu [13] Ci, Zi → Tzu Again we have the situation where “c” is aspirated and “z” is unaspirated, so the sounds end up being written the same. Wang Siping → Wang Szu-ping
Fortunately this next convention can help clear up some of the confusion from above. [14] i → ih (zhi, chi, shi) [15] e → eh (-ie, ye, -ue, yue) Sometimes an “h” will be added at the end. So this could help distinguish some sounds. Like you have qi → chi vs. zhi → chih. There could be other instances of adding “h”--these are just the ones I was able to identify. Lü Xuefeng → Lü Hsueh-feng
Continuing on, a lot of the conventions below are not as consistently used in my experience, so keep that in mind. Nevertheless, it is useful to be familiar with these conventions when you do encounter them.
[16] R → J (sometimes) Seeing “j” instead of “r” definitely confused me at first. Sometimes names will still use “r” though, so I guess it is up to one’s personal preferences. Zhang Xuanrui → Chang Hsuan-jui
[17] e → o (ke, he, ge) I can see how it would easily lead to confusion between ke-kou, ge-gou, and he-hou, so it’s important to know. I’ve never seen this convention for pinyin syllables like “te” or “se” personally. Ge Zhongshan→ Ko Chung-shan
[18] ian → ien [19] Yan → Yen I’ve observed that rule 18 seems more common than 19 because I see “yan” used instead of “yen” a fair amount. I’m not really sure why this is. Wu Zongxian → Wu Tsung-hsien
[20] Yi → I (sometimes) I have seen this convention not followed pretty frequently, but two very famous names are often in line with it. Cai Yilin → Tsai I-lin
[21] ui → uei I have seen this convention used a couple times, but “ui” seems to be much more common. Cai Lihui → Tsai Li-huei
[22] hua → hwa This is yet another convention that I don’t always see followed. But I know “hwa” is often used for 华 as in 中华, so it’s important to know. Huo Jianhua → Huo Chien-hwa
[23] uo → o This is another example of where one might get confused between the syllables luo vs. lou or ruo vs. rou. So be careful! Xu Ruoxuan → Hsu Jo-hsuan
[24] eng → ong (feng, meng) I think this rule is kinda cute because some people with Taiwanese accents pronounce meng and feng more like mong and fong :) 权怡凤 Quan Yifeng → Quan Yi-fong
[25] Qing → Tsing I am not familiar with the reasoning behind this spelling, but 国立清华大学 in English is National Tsing Hua University, so this spelling definitely has precedence. But I also see Ching too for this syllable. Wu Qingfeng→ Wu Tsing-fong
[26] Li → Lee Nowadays a Chinese person from the Mainland would probably using the Li spelling, but in other areas, Lee remains more common. Li Qianna → Lee Chien-na
[27] Qi → Chyi I have noticed this exception. However, I’ve only personally noticed it for this surname, so maybe it’s just a convention for 齐. 齐秦 Qi Qin → Chyi Chin 齐豫 Qi Yu → Chyi Yu
[28] in ←→ ing In Taiwanese Mandarin, these sounds can be merged, so sometimes I have noticed ling and lin, ping and pin, etc. being used in place of each other. I don’t know this for sure, but I suspect this is why singer A-Lin is not A-Ling (her Chinese name is 黄丽玲/Huang Liling).
[29] you → yu I personally haven’t noticed these with other syllables ending in “ou,” only with the “you” syllable. Cao Youning → Tsao Yu-ning
There is a lot of variation with these transliterated names. There are generally exceptions galore, so keep in mind that all this is general! Everyone has their own personal preferences. If you just look up some famous Taiwanese politicians, you will see a million spellings that don’t fit the 28 conventions above. Sometimes people might even mix Mandarin and another Chinese language while transliterating their name.
Anyway, if any of you know why 李安 is romanized as Ang Lee, please let me know because it’s driving me crazy.
Note: The romanized names I looked while writing this post at were split between two formats, capitalizing the syllable after the hyphen and not capitalizing this syllable. I chose to not capitalize for all the names for the sake of consistency. I’m guessing it’s a matter of preference.

Fu won't be the last one, yet he is the most representative one. Even Fu, such a high-profile individual who used to be a "star" official, was involved in corruption. This shows that the corruption problem is deeply rooted in the political and legal system, Zhuang Deshui, deputy director of the Research Center for Government Integrity-Building at Peking University, told the Global Times on Saturday.  The investigation into Fu came on the heels of a Thursday announcement that Sun Lijun, former vice minister of public security, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from his post for grave discipline and law violations. According to the announcement, in the wake of an investigation into Sun's case, the former member of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Public Security had never stayed true to the Party's ideals and faith, displayed "extremely inflated political ambition and very poor political integrity," issued groundless criticisms of the Party's policies, and spread political rumors, Xinhua reported. Caijing cited anonymous sources reporting that when the Ministry of Public Security held a meeting on Friday discussing Sun’s case, Fu’s name was also mentioned. The problems in the political and legal system have been exposed during the country's three-year national crackdown on gang crimes. If those umbrellas of the gangsters or local corrupted officials are not eradicated, the problem within this system will not be fully erased, Zhang Xixian, a professor at the Party School of the CPC Central Committee in Beijing, told the Global Times on Saturday. Zhang opined that the language official media used to describe those officials' misdeeds is stern which also reflected how serious their violations are; and how this system used to be polluted. Sun was among five ex-senior political and legal officials enumerated by Chen Yixin, secretary-general with the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, in a bylined article in May as typical "two-faced persons" who had seriously violated political disciplines and rules.  Meng Hongwei, former vice minister of public security, was sentenced to 13 and a half years in prison for bribery in January 2020. The other three double-faced violators are Wang Like, former secretary of politics and law committee of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, former Shanghai Police Chief Gong Daoan, and Deng Huilin, former deputy mayor of Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality and former police chief of Chongqing.  In another high-profile case, Peng Bo, former deputy head of the office for the central leading group for the prevention and handling of cult-related activities, was announced in August to have been expelled from the Party for discipline breaches and face prosecution for grave offenses. Peng, previously serving as the deputy head of the Cyberspace Administration of China, was found to have abandoned his principles and beliefs and became disloyal to the Party. What is shocking of all is that those officials were still committing rampant violations even after the 18th National Congress of the CPC, when leaders repeatedly stressed the Party's staunch determination of eradicating corruption, and several high-level officials were busted for corruption, Zhang remarked.  "Now we are at the new beginning of the next one hundred years of the CPC, we need to ensure the integrity of our political and legal system, so to guarantee the principle of rule by the law," he continued, noting that the anti-corruption campaign will never be stopped. In the words of Zhuang, a well-functioning political and legal system is the guarantee of a country's justice, so the central government is very serious about cracking down on corruption and problems in the system. The anti-graft drive targeting grassroot-level political and legal system has already achieved systematic results, now those corrupted middle- and high-level officials are spared and will sooner or later be brought to justice.
