A Prissy Girl’s Guide to Fall
Tumblr media Tumblr media
back by popular demand, i’m here with another prissy girl guide! this post is a bit late for the fall but it’ll allow you to finish the season off in a pretty fashion, and transition to the winter smoothly. i’ll be discussing the look i’ve been adorned in as of late and my fav products i’ll be using for the spirit of fall! 💓
what’s the look this fall?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the look this season is “divalicious barbie.” voluminous hair, tapered square nails and fur details + neutral color palettes. add in a few pops of pink and some sparkly detailz and you got my look this fall. “sexy chic.” i’ve been really leaning into the vibe of a runway supermodel diva emulsion. as you may have seen, my birthday outfit drew from many inspirations, focally the early nineties alaia runway shows. just immense glamour, class and girliness with a healthy dose of sexy.
“it's officially fall bbys. uggs, tracksuits, sew ins are in”
“in are warm scents, fur, leopard prints, brown lip gloss with voluminous blowouts for the fall to enhance my diva essence!”
- @realprissygrl on twitter 🎀
first and foremost…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the weather is turning so a lot of us are catching colds. take care of your health and rest. protect your immune system and dress according to weather. i almost always get sick around late september/early october and its because of the dip my immune system takes due to the change in climate.
preparation
some of you are in school like me. one of the reasons the fall is my fav season is because it’s time to get back to the basics. you should be developing new study routines around this time or perfecting the ones you have already
new school supplies + stationery. pretty girls deserve to stay stocked up on glitter ink and fuzzy pens
start saving money for the holiday season
get a handle on your halloween look early so not to scramble when the day comes
stock up on tea, immune boosters like emergen-c and medicine
start going outside in the morning to get the vitamin D and K you may lose out on as the seasons turn
set new goals and track them in a diary or planner
try to get well rested. the change from fall to winter can cause a lot of mood and energy complications due to lack of rest
Tumblr media Tumblr media

The Pisces Quest for Glamour
I had made posts about Rahuvian fashion & style and how Rahuvians seem to prefer a very loud, eclectic, vibrant, mix-matchy style. This is a general pattern and not a strict one that every Rahuvian will relate to. Its possible to be Rahuvian and not fit into this style at all (Margot Robbie, Mila Kunis both Swati Moon, who have a more laidback style come to mind). But for this post, I thought I'd explore Pisces natives (UBP & Revati) and how they seem to often prefer a very old school, glamorous almost old Hollywood-like style. They like timeless, classic pieces and are very sophisticated when it comes to fashion.
Tumblr media
Angelina Jolie, Revati Moon
I think "quiet luxury" or "chic" style is exemplified by Pisces natives and tbh no one does this better than Miss Angelina Jolie. She's uber stylish, understated but super cool
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Taehyung, Revati Moon
Taehyung has many different styles tbh but he is kind of known for his crisp classic European-esque style, very chic, very 🤌🏼
Pisces fashion can also be very feminine, very girly, very glamorous and here are some examples of that:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Salma Hayek, UBP Moon
Salma is always dressed to the 9s and that is on her UBP Moon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mariah Carey, UBP Sun
Miss Ma'am Mariah is known for her love of diamonds and old Hollywood glamour. She's always retained her hyperfeminine glamdoll style regardless of the changing trends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Janhvi Kapoor, Ketu in UBP
oopsies her head is cut out in some of these pics lol but Janhvi refuses to wear anything that isn't sparkly, shimmery or bodycon lol
its very glamorous in a tacky ish way i guess
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gabi DeMartino, Venus in Revati
Ik she's hella problematic, I'm only including her bc of her girly girl glam style. Venus is creativity/beauty etc so we often channel our Venus when we style ourselves which is why I've included her even tho she does not have big 3 pisces
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anya Taylor Joy, UBP/Revati Moon (Mars & Ketu in Revati)
I'd say Anya is one of the only younger actresses who do glamour well and she has an edgy, avant garde spin on glamour too. And that's on her Pisces stellium<33
Tumblr media
Rooney Mara, UBP Moon/Mercury/Venus
Another person who has a very classic, chic style but is more subdued than Anya is Rooney who also has a Pisces stellium.
only 30 images are allowed per post so there will be a part 2 <33

Thrift Store Overhaul
Have you always wanted your Sims to be able to go to the store and purchase clothing items then only after purchasing these clothing items they will be unlocked in CAS? Well, this mod does exactly that!
The Thrift Store Overhaul mod overrides the current Thrift Store that came with the High School Years expansion pack. This mod locks every single clothing item, Accessories, and shoes in game and to unlock the items you'll have to purchase them at the Thrift Store and only the swatch of the clothing item you bought will be automatically unlocked. The Thrift Store Overhaul mod is currently only accessible for Teens, Young Adult, Adult, and Elders.
DLC: High School Years
This mod uses the XML Injector by SCUMBUMBO.
This mod is an OVERRIDE of the Thrift Store. This means that any other mod that overrides any file of the Thrift Store is NOT compatible!!
There are only a few clothing items that are currently not locked in game. These items have been purposely stayed unlocked so that your Sim can have an outfit when you start a new game. Also, Career outfits, traditional/cultural outfits, costumes, reward outfits, and ripped outfits are not locked.
Tumblr media
Known Issues:
Get to Work retail system does not work! However, you can still purchase the outfit that is shown on the mannequin and wear it right away. Then after purchasing this outfit, I've added a new interaction: "Purchase a Different Outfit..." what will bring you into the Thrift Store outfit creation mode.
Clothes are not unlocked when you purchase them from another Sim on Trendi. However, you can still resell this outfit and wear the outfit when you click the wear outfit interaction.
If you do not purchase the first swatch of an outfit, you'll have two thumbnails in game showing the same outfit. One is the original and will have the lock on the thumbnail the second one is the colour swatch you've purchased. This is how EA's system works and not a bug in the mod. This doesn't cause any issues it's just annoying to look at.

Glamour Italy - November 2010
I transcribed & translated this old interview done by Glamour. It was conducted in September 2010. I couldn't figure out some words because the scans are cut.
ORIGINAL SCANS WITH PHOTOSHOOT
[Translation & Transcript by me] America's sweetheart, Taylor Swift, poses for us. And she surprises. She changes look: she becomes bolder and more rock, elegant and (a little) spacey. And she reveals her passion for fashion, some styling tricks (yes, even how to wear a tuxedo jacket) and the secret to being liked by the world. Which is? Have a star attitude.
1. Which style do you interpret easily?
Wearing glittery and sparkling evening dresses comes naturally to me, the kind that stand out. But I also know how to wear girly dresses, maybe with a retro vibe.
2. How do you dress when you want to feel different?
I play with a totally opposite look, almost androgynous: I'm wearing a black tuxedo jacket."
3. What do you pair with it?
I could write an essay about it! So, I usually pair it with a pair of shorts, bold, thick tights, a T-shirt and a pair of Oxford shoes. In the evening, however, I pair it with skinny jeans and I wear high-heels or knee-high heeled boots. In this case, I wear a black bodice [missing word] Other times I pair it with a glittery skirt. A sparkly [missing word] and high heels. I know a thing or two about wearing my blazer...
4. Where do you shop?
When I travel I like discovering the local fashion. I go to every little shop, but I also like shopping to Urban Outfitters, Apostrophe and Topshop.
5. What was your last purchase from Topshop?
Ah, I always buy T-shirts with weird or fun prints. The last one I go has a maxipanda on it. I wear it with leggings, or a skirt, or skinny jeans with lace-up shoes.
6. What's the last deal you made?
I have a passion for vintage stuff and antique shops. In an antique shop I bought a key, one of the old-fashioned ones, I hung it on a chain and created a necklace of my own.
7. Who are your favorite designers?
I'll make a list. I love Cavalli, Dior, Kaufman Franco and Rick Owens.
8. Is there a person you admire for their style?
Charlize Theron, she is elegant and chic.
9. What have you got youreself recently?
So many socks: they have become my obsession. And a woolen hat with a soft pompom. This will be the highlight for the winter-
10. How do you transform a day look into a night look?
A touch of red lipstick: it's instantly an evening look.
11. What do you always pack in your suitcase when you travel?
-I never forget my necklace collection. I like the ones by Lulu Frost, they look vintage. Sometimes I even wear more than one, I overlap them.
12. And what other accessories define your look?
I love bracelets, but unfortunately I can only wear them on my left wrist, otherwise I wouldn't be able to play the guitar. I also like hair accessories such as headbands, ribbons, especially for the evening. Ah, I almost forgot, hats! If I have a bad hair day, they are my salvation: I put my hair under my hat and voilà!
13. What is the piece you have in your closet that makes you feel more comfortable?
The one I call a "to go to" sweater. The one I always carry it with me wherever I go. And navy blue, with a wide and slightly oversized neckline.
Floating quotes:
"Having charm means not feeling inadequate if you enter a room and realize that everyone has flat shoes while you are the only one with high heels... You have to be confident."

Here’s a tutorial on how you can switch between the packs without having to uninstall them on Windows. With this method, you can choose with what packs you play. It’s been my go-to method since years, and it always works! Makes building so much easier for me if I want to use only specific packs, or even only the basegame.
I also prepared a list where you can see which pack is a certain pack, cause in the Origin folder they’re only numbered. You can see this list under the cut, or read the description of the video. When new packs will be released, I will also update my list with the new and correct numbers.
If you have any questions left, you can always drop me a message or ask.

Boo's Dollhouse
Chapter 1: Pumpkin Bae
Tumblr media
Tamera Leigh-Buschall aka Boo was 36 when she inherited 21,545 square feet of Texan mansion from her late husband Larry Buschall. In his will, she was the sole beneficiary. She got it all and his three kids got nothing. No one liked Larry Buschall, he was a self loathing upholder of white supremacy, mean, bitter, and corrupt.. but he was stinkin rich and weak for female company. Boo had to be his nurse, his secretary, and his empty headed porn star. The corporate shark and multimillionaire was 75 when he finally croaked.
Tumblr media
Three years living and riding on top of the foul mouthed tyrant funded Boo's self-made business, run out of her home with a team of creative young women in her employment who knew how to have fun while making her a ton of money.
"It's time ladies," she announced to the lounging women in her budoir. "Move out. Our first customer of the day has arrived."
Boo wouldn't tell them who it was for the sake of client anonymity, only that he was male and paying for a complete experience. Only Boo and the chosen sex worker could know the identity per NDA.
Boo and her security team were the only ones standing at the front door waiting, Boo wearing a pumpkin head with two mimosas in hand, one for herself and one for the client.
Tumblr media
The shiny black rolls royce rolled into the driveway and parked near the front door of the mansion with Shawnee, the black-suited driver walking around to open the back door. Out stepped the 6'3 slim yet athletic frame of a man in a light grey jogging suit, green socks, and sneakers with a Scream mask overlapping awkwardly with his hoodie. The fall morning air was nippy and orange leaves blew on the stone path. He made it to the door and accepted the glass.
"Boo?"
"Ahh! ..Come in."
He snorted and she stepped back allowing him to take in the festive trappings of the foyer decorated by her and the dolls themselves while she sipped her mimosa. It was gothic chic and Hollywood classic horror opposed to Party City. Still, they had to keep the webs stretched across the walls and signature black spiders. There were arrangements of black burning candles and black lanterns. The entire place smelled feintly of vanilla. He turned to the skull full of complementary condoms and the trick or treat bucket of candy and mints, looking back for permission. A proper southern gentleman.
"Help yourself!"
Boo shuffled in her fuzzy pink slippers to a folded leg position on the living room couch. It was a waiting room she used to further interview clients in a comfortable manner. 9:30 AM was entirely too early to start off with a tour. The girls deserved a little grace, space, and time to get their bearings.
Tumblr media
"Talk now, tour later," she patted on the couch for him to sit. He sat.
"Oo.. this is good," he frowned from his first sip of fresh mango pineapple mimosa. He had to lift the bottom of the mask to drink. "Nice pumpkin head," he gestured wide.
"Like I like it. The head gotta be big." She picked up her appointment book. They hadn't set a time for him to leave the premises which meant he could stay and spend money. She turned to a listing of the girls by photo and showed him the two-page spread of glamour shots. "So what's ya type?"
"Damn. Already? Well I always say the blacker the berry..." That ruled out the Israeli girl, the Puerto Rican, and the Korean. "Preferably slim thick," his hands curved. That ruled out a few more. "Athletic. Long hair," he stared at Boo's photo. She watched him through the eye slits in her pumkin head. "Real tall.. WNBA Tall."
She clapped the book closed. "You tryna fuck me?"
"All five foot ten inches."
"Ooh," she whispered leaning in. He smelled like Tom Ford. He'd done his smell good routine and was ready. "Say less I've seen Watchmen." She popped up not spilling a drop, her drink raised high. She pulled him by the front of his grey hoodie. "Don't spill nothing on my floor.. Have you had breakfast?"
"Not yet, I could eat. Where all the women?"
"Enjoying their morning, you'll see some of them when I give you the tour."
Boo lead the 6'3 client up one of the two grand staircases toward her entertainment suite. This was a dim and elegantly designed room with gothic glam touches. A squared stage was on the far wall decorated like a pumpkin patch with a pole in the middle. A nook with a fullsize bed was to the left as well.
"Look at that," he pointed at the large jack-o-lantern with smoky fog coming from its gaping mouth. She closed the door and sat him at a short dining table and matching southern gothic style chair placed adjacent of the stage.
"Interested in some hookah, Yahya?"
"Definitely."
She offered a selection while she made a call to the kitchen. The Ghostface mask was finally off and in his lap as he smoked the area into a cloud, getting loose like he was at a warm cafe.
"I feel like I'm in a gentleman's club," Yahya exhaled, smoke rising up. "I feel like a king." Boo's hand swept his cheek and held his face sucking up smoke in a shotgun that left him staring.
"You are. Enjoy yourself. Let me handle everything."
He closed his eyes and let the clouds overtake him while he rested. When kitchen delivered, Boo sat the plate of pancakes with banana and creme fraiche in front of her client and watched his deep brown eyes alight with childlike satisfaction.
Tumblr media
His senses were being engaged and to a playlist of Brent Faiyaz and Giveon. She left her slippers and took the stage, twirling in her pink satin pj's around the centered pole in a fluid, consistent, and practiced manner while he hummed and moaned enjoying gourmet pancakes and soothing hookuh unrushed. There was no reason for Boo to rush, the cashier was trained as a receptionist and the next client wasn't scheduled until 12.
Yahya watched Boo carefully as she danced, her mile long legs like a stretch of highway on display for his eyes only. He followed her stems all the way up to the sexiest parts concealed by her short shorts. It was left for him to imagine and he loved not seeing it off the bat. Especially when she stretched and put her leg up by her head, it sent blood to the organ between his thighs.
Legs were his weakness. Her long slender legs teased him with their fit and athletic feminine nature. She kept up with her workouts and worked for those legs. They were shiny, hairless, and free of blemish. Her calves were shapely and in good proportion. When she stood on her toes the gentle toned musculature was apparent. It wasn't too much. There was something about a beautiful and slim fit woman's legs to Yahya. They were sensual in a subtle way, sneaky in their appeal. Only other leg men would truly appreciate what he was seeing and understand why he preferred super tall slim thick women. He could feel the blood rushing to his growing erection and he blew his smoke at the stage enjoying his private dance.
A classically trained ballerina on a pole, Boo was smooth and at ease in a zone working through a comparatively low intensity routine under the music.
"Bravo," he blew.
She ran with his fetish, surrounded by fog and flexing the length and strength of her legs, doing scissor sits and jamilas. She mixed in her carousels, knee spins, and sunwheels.
"Magic City," he muttered.
She remained upright to keep her pumpkin head on, semi blinded, but strong in muscle memory. He chuckled when she paused her spins to work in a low pulsing twerk on beat.
"I know you dance, Cadillac."
"Girl... Don't start me up."
She glanced back invitingly.
Yahya was on the stage of pumpkins in seconds isolating his hips on rhythm. He sat her pumpkin head among the others, lifting her chin. Between her beauty, her body, and the way she moved it was no wonder the old sugar daddy left her everything.
He sandwiched her between two poles, the one she swung on and the one in his lap, slow grinding to Loose Change.
"Big maaan," she smiled feeling his lips on her ear and his full and sensitive hard-on pressed against her.
"Mhm." He became a leach on her kneck, his hand in her shorts grabbing the fat cat with his manicured middle fingers inside. "You like my hand around your neck baby?"
"Mm, yess," she moaned in bliss feeling him choke her. She threw her hands over his neck and relaxed letting him bring her to orgasm.
When he picked her up with ease, she wrapped her long feminine and statuesque legs around his waist gripping him until he placed her on the bed. She flipped onto her stomach and arched letting him peel away away at the layers.. her pj shorts and cartoon jack-o-lantern panties.
It was his turn to strip taking it all off until he was leaning nude on the bed, fresh clean and well man-scaped.
His tongue went up her thigh finding it butter smooth, supple and firm. He replaced her panties with kisses on her cheeks which were smooth and perfectly round like a peach with a healthy youthful bounce. He stuck his face between using his thumb to rub her labia open and her clit while she held her own cheek back. His tongue did the rest.. long sweeping strokes and gentle sucks with extra saliva that nearly made her extend his hour with her just to keep getting this tier of head. She didn't have time.
"Come show me what that dick do or does it hang to decorate your balls?"
He ripped open a blue condom he pulled from the skull and covered his length, rubbing the tip on her clit, sliding up and inside.
She drove her ass back, swallowing his length and bouncing off his hips. He fucked her back. The bed began to tremble with their force. Their bodies collided. Boo planted her elbows and threw her lower half on rhythm to the music.
"Fuck this pussy back. Fuck this pussy back."
He grabbed her by her hair ready to make her see stars, but again no time. She pushed him off, pulling him beneath her as she put a leg over his shoulder to fuck him from on top, bouncing while his toes curled and his eyes squeezed shut. The bed continued to shake to the degree that it didn't seem normal. They both felt it, like an earthquake, but Boo ignored it. She turned and squatted to a reverse cowgirl position, bouncing some more until he conceded with a long hiss. She blew on two imaginary guns and reholstered them. His time was up and he was swallowing like he needed water. She didn't have the time to give him another hour to manhandle her like he wanted, she had to clean up and prepare for 12. Plus, there was still the tour.
"Stay there, don't move."
Her coffin-nailed finger stopped him in his tracks. All clients were spoiled with a fluffy hot towel and soapy wipedown. She pulled him up to his feet and dressed him in a clean white terrycloth robe, new white socks, and his Scream mask. She herself wore the second terrycloth robe with her slippers.
She called her live in maid to tidy up the room, folded his sweatsuit, and handed it to him then escorted him through her Houston mansion excluding her personal wing where she slept and did her personal business. She showed him the kitchen, the various common rooms. A picture fell.. the picture she'd hung to replace the commissioned portrait of the late Larry Buschall. He loved his damn picture there and every day Boo looked at it she wanted it gone. When he died she replaced it with something visually attractive, a piece of art that matched her decor. She looked at the picture on the floor, rolled her eyes, and kept leading Yahya to the theatre room which boasted twenty generous seats and a big screen with surround sound.
"Who left the speakers on," she sighed when they both heard the feedback.
In the wine cellar, she poured him a splash of her favorite 1992 vintage red wine for taste. She was right to think he'd appreciate it.
Next to show him was the dance hall, the gym, the basketball court, and the grotto-style swimming pool. He took his robe and mask off handed it to Boo to get a running start. She watched him cannonball into the deep water with a big splash and climb back out, running soaked and grinning like a child.
"We wild baby! We FERAL!"
"Boy put ya mask on!" She redressed him like a mama, fixing the robe on him. His socks were soaked through. "Look at you, follow me."
She led him to the shower room and left his clothes with him so he got the hint. He came out fifteen minutes later dressed and grabbing at her waist.
"What do you say we go for a spin on the dance floor. I'll teach you some new moves."
"We still got one more place to visit sir."
"Excuseee me," he smiled.
She brought him to the register.
"This is where I show you your total."
It was a place where he could get a look at his bill so it wouldn't be a surprise when they took his money. She watched him read over the itemized receipt. Hookah session, breakfast, and an hour in Boo's suite at Boo's rate which was the highest rate of all the dolls.
Yahya looked at the number and nodded retracting the comment that never left his lips. The service was worth the dollar amount. She smiled. "Come back anytime."
"Now," he smirked.
"Baby a bitch is busy running a business, try next week, Tuesday if you're looking for soon." She adjusted his hood over the black fabric of his mask. He followed her back to the front of the house and lingered for a minute. She pulled him by his hoodie strings and rubbed his chest through the fabric. "You're welcome back. Just make sure you don't forget me.."
She backed him out of the front door and the black Rolls Royce waiting. "I'll think of you!" Boo blew a kiss.
Shawnee closed Yahya in and he was still looking back wistfully at the house as the car drove away to drop him back at his own car.
Finally she could focus on getting ready for the 12 o'clock client and she could get some brunch.
"How was it," Kitty came around the corner in black lingerie and heels, being noisy.
"Y'all can come out," Boo turned watching a group of women come from hiding.
"I was waiting, I thought he was gonna choose me or Honey," Angel collapsed on the white sitting room cushion jumping at the disembodied voice that wretched at her.
"Get yo goddamn monkey feet off my seat ya pie-faced nappyheaded semon demon. Ain’t ya mammy never taught ya ta respect furniture that ain't yo's. In here acting like a damn fool.. ALLA' YAS!"
"Shut UP," Boo scowled. "'Fore I start burning shit.. And I like this couch.."
Angel laughed. The girls had gotten used to the ghostly outbursts of old nasty Larry Buschall. He was all bark and no bite post-mortem. If a customer heard it, the dolls knew what to do. They'd pass it off as a speaker or a prank. No one in the house was truly afraid.
"Now I'm going to eat and I better not hear nothing else," Boo bitched the air with her finger. "..That's what the fuck I thought," she muttered.

The Club
“Good Times” (1979) Chic Atlantic Records (Written by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers) Highest U.S. Billboard Chart Position – No. 1
“The key of the success of Studio 54 is that it's a dictatorship at the door and a democracy on the dance floor.”  - Andy Warhol
On April 26th, 1977, more than 4000 people showed up on 54th street between 7th and 8th Avenues in NYC to attend the opening of a newly revamped theater turned discotheque (once an opera house in the 1920s) for the grand opening of Studio 54.  Eight thousand invites had been sent from many of the bests lists in the city; the line snaked around the block that night with people clamoring to get in.  Many celebrities, officially invited, were unable to get through the soon-to-be famous doors.  Disco, a popular fusion of soul and dance music, was on the ascendant: hedonistic, generic, joyful, color-blind, and sexually promiscuous (many of the song themes would be about copulation).  It was in that year that two newly successful bandmembers from Chic named Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers were invited by Grace Jones and unceremoniously turned away at the door.  Jones was never famously reliable; there is no telling where she was, but when they didn’t get in they went home and wrote an angry song called “Fuck You”, then changed it to “Freak Out”, then to “Le Freak”, which then went on to become one of the biggest disco songs ever written, and afterward they went to Studio 54 as often as they liked, because there is no golden ticket in the world like fame.
Tumblr media
I am sure I don’t have to tell you what Studio 54 was: it was one of the most glamourous, glitziest, expensive spaces in New York.  It was a party where everyone, anyone, had a good chance to get in.  It held 2,500 and often had more; it had back rooms, was famous for the famous, and sex, and drugs.  It had an incredible light show and sound system, and the best DJs.  But most of all it was entirely and profoundly mixed: rich, working class, old, young, black, white, gay, straight, gender fluid, normcore.  The two owners, Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager, had two rules: they wanted it full, and they wanted a mix, always a mix.  Only the uber famous (Halston, Warhol, Jagger, Minnelli, Jackson) were guaranteed entrée; otherwise, it was the mix that mattered.  The mix, the show (copious amounts of money on props and effects), and the music.
“A rumor has it that it's getting late Time marches on, just can't wait…”              - Lyrics from “Good Times”
The club was the answer to a very gritty and tumultuous decade for the US and New York City in particular; it may be no accident that the theater once housed the old CBS studios known as Studio 52. In the 1950s and 1960s they filmed witty game shows here, which showcased intelligent repartee (To Tell The Truth, What’s My Line, Password, The 64,000 Question), shows that were representative of an urbane and prosperous city, and of high American culture.  Rubell and Schrager kept a lot of the old leftover camera equipment from that era (whether as props or as a through-line it is hard to ascertain); in reopening its doors they presented a very new idea of glamor in New York, an antidote to the recent near-bankruptcy, inflation, gas shortages, and in 1978, a full-blown newspaper strike.  Public housing in The Bronx was a disgrace (literally on fire in 1977 and broadcast live at a Yankees game by Howard Cosell), and fear and paranoia were rampant as Son of Sam ran around viciously killing young women.  Out of all this chaos, Studio 54 and disco.  Clearly people needed fantasy, and release, and from this scene arose Bernard Edwards (bass) and Nile Rodgers (guitar) of Chic, two highly accomplished black musicians.
The idea of the band was one of sophistication; the three male leads (which included drummer Tony Thompson) were accompanied by two female singers, and everyone dressed beautifully, almost in a retro vision of glamor; the songs were straight-to-the-dancefloor extended disco tracks, or lush ballads with strings.  The songwriting was of exceptional high quality, and the playing incredibly expert (their first hits in 1977 were “Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)” and “Everybody Dance”), and no one, no one, sounded even remotely like them: the guitar and bass lines were ingenious and infectious.  In fact, if you want to time travel and exactly conjure the feeling of the late 70s, a Greatest Hits collection will take you right there.  After “Le Freak” peaked in 1978 (it would be Atlantic’s, and parent company Warner Brothers, biggest seller of all time until Madonna’s “Vogue” in 1990) it seemed as if Chic, disco, and the nightlife of the Studio 54 crowd would go on forever.  Except.  Except.  Was there something about the sound of Chic, a warped, dragging, rather sad tone, to their hits?  The more they succeeded, the sadder around the edges the records became.
I never loved “Le Freak”, as good as it was. In 1979, I must have liked “Good Times”, because I bought it; it was the gray Atlantic label and a plain white sleeve, I remember quite clearly.  I think I bought it because of the round piano swirl that opens the record— I was obsessed with how the song was constructed; it was perfect.  But I also believe I wanted to understand how it worked, to get to the center of it, so I would drop it into the player and stare at it going around and around for clues that never came.  Something about it made me sad.  It would be decades before I went back to Chic and discovered the joy in that sadness; this was mature music for sophisticated people, and it captured those years so well, and with such elegance, and if it was sad, it was because there are always sad things seeping in, and possibly because their heyday, and all that high style, would be relatively short-lived considering the perfection of the records they were creating.
The Disco Sucks movement started on July 12th, 1979, in Chicago, Illinois. A radio shock jock held a record-burning stunt at a baseball game in Comisky park and 50,000 people showed up, and after the dj blew up piles of disco records, they swarmed the field and started a riot.  Record companies began to re-label their sleeves as Dance Records, not Disco, and the white-wash officially began.  The record burning has been likened to a Neo-Nazi event, largely inspired by disgruntled white rock fans, and inherently racially motivated, and I would say I fully believe that.  It not without irony that the rather sad quality pushing against the melody of “Good Times” was realistic.  It was to be their last No. 1 record under their band name, even if they would go on to produce 1980’s Diana (Diana Ross, but a full-blown Chic record, soup-to-nuts) which would sell 10 million copies, and both Edwards and Rogers would go on to have enormous careers as producers, especially Rodgers, with Bowie’s Let’s Dance right around the corner, not to mention Madonna’s Like a Virgin, produced by Rodgers (and on which all three Chic musicians play) as well as so many more.  Nevertheless, I am ahead of myself.  It is still 1979, and Studio 54 is still thriving.
“Now what you hear is not a test: I’m rappin to the beat.”             - Lyrics from "Rapper's Delight” *
“Good Times” topped the Billboard Pop charts in August, 1979 (B Side: “A Warm Summer Night”).  In September of the same year Nile Rodgers was in a club when he heard a song that clearly used the basic elements of their record: the bass, the guitar, a bit of the strings.  It was “Rapper’s Delight”, a novelty record produced by a very savvy Sylvia Robinson to exploit the street scenes of break dancing and rapping in The Bronx, which were usually only performed live with a boombox.  Certain songs could easy be rapped over, and “Good Times” was one of them.  However, real rappers never considered recording.  Enter Robinson, some fast thinking, and four quickly auditioned amateurs to make “Rapper’s Delight” as the Sugarhill Gang, and not only did she have it out in a flash, but on her own label, Sugarhill Records (Sugar Hill is a prosperous neighborhood in Harlem).
That night in the club, Nile Rodgers was not pleased.  He and Edwards threatened to sue her immediately, and the matter was resolved quickly by Robinson giving them their writing credits, and thereby their money, and re-releasing it.  What he could not have foreseen was that this novelty hit (it only went to No. 38 on the charts) would actually change music forever.  It is the first successful mainstream rap record (we had the 12”, the first I ever had, in our house, and my brothers and sisters all learned the lines and became living room emcees), and it went on to establish Hip-hop as a genre. It would also lead to many copycats, and many interpolations of Rodger’s guitar and Edward’s tireless bassline, notably in Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” and Blondie's “Rapture”.
Looking back on it, Niles feels very differently about one of the most famous examples of record sampling.  "As innovative and important as ‘Good Times’ was,” Nile Rodgers has said, “ ‘Rapper's Delight’ was just as much, if not more so.”  He is absolutely correct, of course.  The success of the Sugarhill Gang led Sylvia Robinson, tireless entrepreneur, to convince a real rapper, Grandmaster Flash, to write and record a track about life as he saw it from the much grittier streets of The Bronx, and he released it as “The Message”, which was a pivotal first.  Rap musicians reference this song endlessly as an inspiration, and I love it just as much for its contribution to electronic music.
Back in 1979 my 14-year-old-self stood for so long staring at my copy of “Good Times” as it revolved on the turntable. Was there a reason it felt warped and catatonic as I listened to it?  I will never know. I wasn’t old enough to understand what the single portended, which was the future of pop music, years and years early.  Things were beginning, and things were ending, right there, all at once, and right in front of my very eyes. It was easy enough to listen, but very difficult to fully comprehend. I needed another 40 years.
-
Sylvia Robinson, a veteran of the biz, not only produced Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five’s “The Message” but also sang on Mickey and Sylvia’s chestnut “Love is Strange” (1956) —think Dirty Dancing—as well as her own proto-disco song “Pillow Talk” (1973), predating the moans on Donna Summer’s “Love to Love You Baby” by years, and if you don’t know it (I needed some reminding) it has to be heard to be believed.  Let’s just say it is at minimum one of the most suggestive Top 40 songs ever recorded.  This was obviously a woman with the ears and ambition for a making a hit record.  She is now known as “The Mother of Hip Hop”.  She passed away in 2011.
Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager went to prison for millions of dollars in tax evasion in January 1980, but not before throwing a big party at 54. They served reduced sentences and eventually opened the nightclub Palladium. Rubell sadly passed away from AIDS in 1989. He was 45 years old.
*(Songwriters: Richey Edwards / Sherill Rodgers)

The Sims 4 DLC
The Sims 4 turned 8 on September 2, 2022. Here is a list along with the date of release for all the DLC, so far put out for The Sims 4. Do you buy every pack full price or wait for a sale? Have you been playing since it came out or did you discover it mid way through?
I’ll go first. I bought my first packs as a bundle. I remember buying a pack & the next day a sale was on. I felt pretty silly, from now on I always only purchase when there is a sale. I started playing in Feb of 2019. I was at the library & a sims 4 ad appeared. I ending up playing the trial & I remember being obsessed right away. I had played the sims mobile before, but this was much more entertaining.
@honeywellsims4news made a post in 2017 showing all the sims 4 DLC & the prices. That looked like a fun idea, so here it is updated for 2022, so far.
