Platonic Lorraine Broughton x child!reader
TW: Mentions of human trafficking
A FLICKER OF TRUST
Tumblr media
Lorraine Broughton was well-versed in the art of infiltration, having navigated countless dangerous missions throughout her career. Yet, the task before her this time held a darkness that sent a shiver down her spine. The criminal organization she had been assigned to infiltrate was notorious for their involvement in the despicable world of human trafficking, owning countless brothels through the whole country.
As Lorraine studied the intelligence reports, her jaw clenched in anger and determination. The gravity of the situation weighed heavily upon her shoulders. It wasn't just a matter of national security anymore; it was a battle against the exploitation of innocent lives. She knew that bringing down this organization would not only save countless victims but also strike a significant blow against the shadowy forces that perpetuated such heinous crimes.
Emmett Kurzfeld, her trusted boss, called her into his office. As Lorraine stepped inside, the air was thick with tension. Emmett leaned forward, his voice low but resolute, the neon lights of the city casting an eerie glow upon his face. "Lorraine, the information we've gathered points to something far more sinister than we anticipated. People involved with this organization aren't your run-of-the-mill criminals. They are politicians from across the globe, even law enforcement agents, and some could be your own colleagues. This goes deep, jeopardizing the safety of our nation. We have to bring them down, expose the dirty politicians and cops involved. Remember, this won't be an easy mission. The deeper you go into this criminal underworld, the more danger you'll face. Stay sharp, trust your instincts, and never forget why we fight."
Lorraine's gaze hardened as she absorbed Emett's words. She understood the magnitude of the battle before her. It wasn't just about gathering intelligence or neutralizing threats; it was about fighting for the voiceless victims who had been stripped of their freedom and dignity.
As Lorraine dug deeper into the heart of the criminal organization, she uncovered a chilling revelation that pierced her soul like a dagger. Amongst the stacks of documents and surveillance footage, she stumbled upon a file that bore a name she hadn't expected to see — your name, Y/N, an innocent eight-year-old girl caught in the clutches of the darkness that consumed your parents, the leaders of the organization.
Lorraine's heart sank as she read through the disturbing details. You had become a victim yourself, subjected to the same cruel mistreatment and abuse that was inflicted upon the organization's other captives. The images captured in the evidence were haunting, displaying the anguish and despair etched into your E/C eyes. It was a stark reminder that innocence could be shattered in the most unimaginable ways.
A fierce protectiveness surged within Lorraine, overriding her mission's original objectives. She couldn't turn a blind eye to you, not when she had the power to make a difference in this innocent child's life. Lorraine knew she had to act swiftly and decisively to rescue you from the malevolent environment you were trapped in.
With her unwavering focus, Lorraine observed the organization, her undercover identity being a brothel owner - Madame Susan, gathering every scrap of intelligence she could. She studied their routines, their habits, and their vulnerabilities, all while keeping her true intentions hidden from their watchful eyes. Lorraine knew that to succeed in her plan and exploit any weaknesses within the organization.
Late at night, Lorraine set her plan into motion. She infiltrated the organization's secret headquarters, navigating the mansion's corridors. Lorraine's heart pounded in her chest, every step taken with utmost care.
Lorraine identified the weak points in the security system. She bypassed the surveillance cameras, deactivated alarms, and neutralized guards with fast and calculated strikes. Each move was executed flawlessly, inching her closer to her ultimate goal of rescuing you.
As Lorraine reached the inner sanctum of the headquarters, she discovered a room filled with countless files, evidence of the organization's heinous operations. Her eyes narrowed with determination as she located the files containing the information that would bring them down once and for all, quickly copying all the needed information to the microform.
But Lorraine knew that her mission extended beyond gathering evidence. She needed to ensure your immediate safety. With a mix of anxiety and purpose, she managed to locate the room where you were being held captive, her heart wrenching at the thought of the horrors you had endured.
Lorraine picked the lock to the room, her movements cautious and silent. As the door swung open, Lorraine was met with the sight of a small figure huddled on a worn mattress, your fragile form marked with bruises, clunching to a blue snugglebum. Lorraine's eyes softened with compassion as she knelt beside you, her voice a soothing whisper.
"Don't be afraid, child," Lorraine assured you, her touch gentle as she reached out to you. "I'm Lorraine, I'm here to take you away from this nightmare. You're safe with me."
Your eyes widened with uncertainty but you cautiously reached out, your small hand trembling as it found comfort in Lorraine's reassuring grip. In that moment, a flicker of trust ignited between you.
Lorraine led you through the dark corridors.
Outside, a black cadillac was waiting. Lorraine helped you into the safety of the backseat, the leather upholstery embracing you like a cocoon of comfort. Your eyes met Lorraine's in a silent reassurance, the blonde wrapped a comforting quilt blanket around your trembling form.
You watched out of the rear window, the distance between you and the horrors grew. Lorraine's heart swelled with a sense of relief. She knew that their journey was far from over, but in rescuing you, she had achieved a victory of immense significance. They had escaped, but the fight against the criminal organization was far from over. Lorraine knew they had to stay one step ahead, unmasking the culprits and destroy their network to ensure that no more lives would be ruined.
Weeks turned into months, and as the dust settled from the harrowing ordeal, Lorraine continued to prioritize your well-being. She visited you regularly at the group home, where you had found temporary home.
During those visits, your bond had grown, and Lorraine couldn't ignore the growing conviction within her heart which led her to make a life-changing decision;
to adopt you.

A weird thing about reading ATB is definitely how relatable Tobio's "power" is as an epileptic person. Like just this description is like yeah that's exactly what its like when a seizure is coming on (and since auditory hallucinations are part of my seizures I can interpolate that from Tobio "communicating" with others)
What I kind of like about it is that sometimes Tobio will experience one of these "communications" and within seconds go back to what he was doing, basically unbothered. Which is sometimes just what seizures look like (and sometimes they don't even 'look' like anything and go completely unnoticed!) I'm sure they aren't deliberately going for epilepsy when writing this narrative but even so seeing a character experience relatively muted and unobtrusive "seizures" is kind of nice for a change

cw: child abuse, disownment, ptsd
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Astro Boy: The Eyes of Christ (1965)
Mm. Because threatening to disown your child for being headstrong and 'disobedient' is a perfectly normal thing to do.
At a glance this might be written on as just an extreme overreaction befitting any child (and parent), but considering Atom was disowned and sold by his first father, the argument can be made here that he was absolutely triggered. Atom's AI is regarded as one of the most advanced in world, and Tezuka's writings frequently do show various robots with traumas and fears (like Box and vacuum cleaners) so there is no reason to believe in this fictional world that robots cannot be triggered.
In Pluto Naoki Urasawa explored this as a main theme. Robots, just like humans can have ptsd. Even though Pluto is a separate entity it carries the spirit of Tezuka's writings in a more direct way and we can glean evidence from the original manga that his presentation of ptsd is not overreaching.
At the time of this writing I am not sure if Atom's origin was that he was ever sold as these stories are presented out of order of when they were written, and Atom has had many different origins. Tezuka's writing was really truly episodic where each story often was singular and isolated with whole new rules that never existed so continuity is mushy.
Either way, that was an absolute dick thing to say. I personally don't much like the robot parents but they do exist and we have them.
Something something even an ai can be abusive something something authoritarian parenting something something

Hey y’all I could use some help with writing something Fallout related.
So, I want to create a Children of Atom faction in North Dakota. The only problem is I don’t know if I should make them humanitarian like in Fallout 3 or make them hostile like in Fallout 4.
So what should I do?
This will be for my Children of the Wastes story.

had to kill this darling today, so here you go
Rachel nudges him. “Did you know, the vibe of your mind changes when you’re upset about Jean?”
He stares at her.
“It feels kinda like...” She leans her head back. “Like when you’ve had a busy week, and you’re going to have an even busier weekend, but for now it’s Friday night and you get to rest a little bit.”
Scott laughs in surprise. “You know, other telepaths pretend they can’t sense people’s minds unless they’re actively sending projections.”
“Yeah, well,” says Rachel. “Most people’s minds have something going on. You’re quiet a lot.”
Scott grins, shaking his head. “I see. You’re saying I don’t usually have thoughts in my head?”
She rolls her eyes. “That’s not what I meant and you know it.” Scott’s reminded vividly of meeting her as a teenager. “You play things close to your chest. I do the same thing, I’m just not as good at it.”
“That’s probably not a bad thing,” he says.
Rachel says, “I don’t know why you’re so afraid of me being like you.”
Scott suppresses his knee-jerk reaction. He turns away from her, looks out at the trees in the darkness in front of them. After a moment he says, “I don’t really understand why you’d want to be.”
He’s still not looking at Rachel, so he doesn’t see her reaction. “You’re still my dad, Scott.”
“Yeah, I am.” There was a time when she didn’t tell him who she was because she thought he’d reject her. He doesn’t want to ever prompt that doubt again. “And I’m grateful for that every day. But that doesn’t mean--”

Mayhem
"Genos..."
"Yes Sen-" A piece of soap came soaring in a wide arc to smack the young cyborg full on the face, stunning him into silence for a second. It fell into his hand, now imprinted with the vague definition of his features as a scream ran out from inside the locker room.
He frowned upon closer inspection; was that a bite mark embedded deep on the surface of the disfigured soap?
"Genos. Look," Saitama pointed calmly behind him in the doorway, his oval face boasting the same unreadable expression as always, a complete contrast to the chaos unfolding before them.
God was dead, and so were any of their remaining brain cells.
They, as in Metal Bat and Garou, were in the process of bashing each other's brains out in front of the hot tub with nothing but small towels wrapped around their waists, while a scantily clad Mumen Rider tried unsuccessfully to hold them apart. Bang and Atomic Samurai sat impassively in the tub behind them, occasionally commenting on their moves and acting as if nothing was wrong with two extremely buff and hot-headed boys trying their damn hardest to throttle each other. And was a baseball bat even allowed inside a locker room?
"Sensei, should we do something?" Genos asked with a glance at the bald hero.
"Nah, let's just find a place to sit before they burn down the building."
And part of him almost wished they did when Puri Puri Prisoner suddenly strutted in front of them buck-ass nude, heading with questionable intentions straight for Zombieman who was just trying to wash his hair on the bench.
"Hey! Cut it out you idiots! No one wants to deal with you two so just get out!" Another familiar voice rang out above all the noise as Amai Mask stomped over to the teenage brawlers, who were now completely naked and bloody. Neither pair seemed to realize that their towels had long been discarded, and Metal Bat was bleeding heavily from the face while Garou sported a few dark-colored bruises. Metal Bat swung once Amai Mask was within range, spitting out a few colorful curses that would put any sailor to shame as he missed by a hair.
The battle escalated, now a three-way fight as Mumen Rider lay passed out a few feet away, caught in the earlier crossfire. The poor guy would need new glasses once again.
"Here should be a good spot," Saitama said, pointing at a few unoccupied benches further away. It wasn't until a solid ten minutes that he sensed something was off, as if someone was watching him. Turning to the left, he was met with the blank gaze of a man in a furry white suit perched on top of the tiled wall, Watchdog Man.
How long has this guy been watching me?
He gazed back but Watchdog Man refused to look away. Maybe he was in an odd coma or something.
Okay...
"Sensei what's wrong?" Genos asked, as if sensing his discomfort.
"It's nothing I-" He was interrupted by a war cry as a ninja star suddenly lodged itself in the wall in front of him.
"Saitama! I've tracked you all the way here, now come fight me!" Sonic howled, not even waiting for a reply as he leapt towards him fully clothed from the entrance.
At least this one has clothes on, Saitama sighed.
"I'll take care of this Sensei!" Genos zoomed past him, incinerator glowing orange.
"No wait Genos! Don't use your cannons-"
BOOM!
The outer layer of the wall on the opposite side crumbled, leaving charred concrete behind as Sonic bounced around the open area.
"Ah, too late. Well, hopefully he has enough to pay for the repairs."
"Ah shit! You'll pay for that!" Flashy Flash roared as Sonic and Genos barreled into him and knocked him into a bucket of soapy water.
"Wait Flashy Flash!" Child Emperor pleaded, immediately chasing after them with the help of mechanical spider legs that sprouted from his backpack. The bathhouse really needed to upgrade their security. The three of them were now a dizzy blur dancing around the locker room.
Zombieman was sent flying into the wall as they rammed into him blindly, the back of his head hitting the wall with a sickening crack.
"Sorry!"
"Oh my God you killed him!" Puri Puri Prisoner sobbed in anguish, sprinting after him in all his naked glory.
Truth be told, to Zombieman the brief respite that death offered was far better than the awkward conversation he had been having with the ex-convict after the shittiest pick-up line he had ever heard in his entire immortal life.
"Have you ever been arrested?" Puri Puri Prisoner purred, fluttering his eyelashes at the pale man.
Zombieman furrowed his brows, replying with a very confused and hesitant "No?"
"Why do you ask?" He continued, nearly shuddering at the way the tall hero was eyeing his exposed chest.
"Because it must be illegal to look that good," Puri Puri Prisoner finished, and Zombieman could swear that the world was out to get him.
"Uh thanks," he muttered awkwardly. Never in his life would he have thought he would have be hit on by a criminal hero in the middle of a locker room full of out-of-control men acting like it was the goddamn apocalypse.
Yeah, death sounded good right about now. He would take every precious second enjoying the darkness before he healed and was dragged back into that living nightmare. Perhaps it was time to invest in some therapy.
"Garou, my boy, did you forget every technique I taught you? You're holding your hand wrong. You need to strike with your palm at an angle," Bang corrected as Metal Bat dodged his attack.
"Shut up old man! I wasn't trying to use your stupid technique anyways!" Garou snarled, springing forward again.
"Hey whose side are ya on anyways?"
"Sorry Metal Bat, old men like myself just can't help it," Bang grinned sheepishly.
"You dare turn your back on me?" Amai Mask punched him in the ribs with his momentary distraction, only enraging the seventeen-year-old more.
"I'll rip yer fucking head off you prick!"
"I don't think I ever want to come here again," Saitama said calmly as he watched a fire break out in the wet bathhouse.
A ninja star exploded behind him as Puri Puri Prisoner strutted past his vision.

can i share my thoughts here ? Still about Zombieman~
he is immortal, we know that. he maybe dont get old or died by aging, he still same like he get created, but he will watch his allies going old or died. maybe for him now its something common or i dont know if he stil has feeling or empathy. Sometimes i seeing him like cold person (?) but actually after seeing chapter how he interaction with emperor child or amai mask actually he not really cold as i think. being immortal for him maybe blessed or curse, but imagine he actually has someone he loving or care, but they are ordinary human not creature or something like him one day get old and died, he watch and spend his time with someone he love and then they will leave him one by one just leave all memories to him.
relationship between mortal and immortal are so insane because what do you mean i'll love you for the rest of my life and you'll miss me for the rest of yours
That is a very interesting and the most saddest thought to have. I always wondered if he would stay like that forever. He's immortal body doesn't agree as they stay the same.
He's seen death so many times he's not scared of it. But if that was a person he would do something to help.
But I would understand you thinking he might be a cold person. He doesn't look like he would. But him being supportive to Child Emperor shows he's a kind person and cares about others.
Even on his hero date says he gets upset if someone dies. Showing his emotions towards the end you can see he's not a cold detective but a sweet heart and has a funny side to him.
He could watch the heroes grow up as Silver Fang retires, Atomic Samurai ages, Child Emperor growing up as a teenager, Metal bat being a man, etc. and he will still remain the same.
He would watch as he loses friends, coworkers and loved ones along the way.
He's a hero and he knows how dangerous it can be as the heroes were at the brink of death countless of times. So in his mind is.
'Don't get attached, just be alone wolf you won't get emotional when they're are gone'
But he's friends with Child Emperor and how much he cares for the boy and he has a soft spot when it comes to children.
He watched them grow up and enjoy life but in the back of his head he knows the end and that upsets him as he can't die from old age.
He can stand up for himself as he knows jerks like Amai mask acting like a asshole to him and he can tease and mock him to the bully.
If he gets really under his skin he can say "well say all you want. But that makeup won't help you with those wrinkles on your face" (I think but I don't think he would be that mean, even if Amai deserves it.)
I can definitely see if he fell in love with someone like that. He would spend every moment with them even if he had to work.
He would always come back to them to see their smiling faces. He would give you something that would mean a lot to him and to hold on to when it comes.
He would hear till death so us part. But he knows it would be his love to be first. And he's afraid of it.
He is a loving man and caring person to have even if he never ages his friends will.
He would visit their graves and tell them what he did like they were there with him as he'll watch the sun rise or falls to night.
