The month is nearly over and I almost forgot to wish a very happy birthday to Herc and his gals (and goat 馃槀)!
A quarter of a century! I remember as if it were yesterday when I watched this gem on the big screen, back when the world was new ;)
And that鈥檚 the gospel truth!馃徍馃徆馃挏

Every now and then an opportunity comes along that makes you pinch yourself with disbelief.聽聽
I LOVE Pyne and Smith. 聽Their style is right up my cottage core, flower-strewn alley, the cuts are flattering and adjustable, and my goodness, as someone who loves fabric so much she took a whole elective on it in college Just Because, their linen is AMAZING. 聽For my fellow sewists, the closest comparison I鈥檝e found is Merchant and Mills. 聽It鈥檚 that good. 聽Buttery soft and holds up incredibly well to washing. The fabric alone is worth every penny. Now, I want to be super clear about something: 聽THIS IS NOT AN AD. 聽I was NOT paid to say this. 聽This is just my personal opinion, as someone who loves fabric, and is so grateful to have found dresses that fit my style, are comfortable to wear and feel good on my fussy, sensory issue skin. 聽This is also my thank you to the owner, Joanna: 聽your beautiful dresses have made this exhausted freelancer鈥檚 life easier. 聽Your wonderful products have made me feel good about myself while literally buying me hours of time. Thank you for what you do! 馃挍 So, because I love these dresses so much, I鈥檝e painted them a few times, as you might have seen. 聽By some miraculous twist of social media fate, Joanna saw these paintings, too, and asked if I鈥檇 be interested in doing an art exchange: a painting for two dresses. 聽Of course I said yes!!! 聽So here鈥檚 what I painted for her, featuring two Pyne and Smith dresses I already owned: the model 30 in blue Georgian stripe and the model 32 pinafore in gray. 聽Curious which dresses I chose in exchange? I picked the model 12 in Harris Check and the model 17 in Brixham Check. I鈥檝e already worn them both a ton of times, and I鈥檓 sure they鈥檒l appear in a what I wore painting down the line. I still can鈥檛 believe someone whose work I admire likes my work in return. Pinch pinch pinch! The internet can be terrible sometimes, filled with hate and anger, but every now and then something magical happens here. 聽Thanks, Joanna, for asking me to paint for you, and for making dresses I love.聽

little monochrome witch :-)
ID under the cut
[ID: digital drawing only in shades of purple of a young looking witch riding their broom in a cute, simple style. They are shown from the side, their skin is greyish purple, they have long light toned hair with bangs, they are smiling and looking towards us, they are leaning forward and holding onto their broom with one hand and to their wide brimmed pointy witch hat with the other, the hat has a white pompom at it鈥檚 peak and a white, frilled ribbon that is tied into a bow around the crown of the hat. they are wearing a mini lenght, a-line dark dress, the dress has wide, white cuffs, a high necked white collar that has a portion that is somewhat like a sailor collar, resting on their shoulders, it has two points in the front and two in the back, the points are each topped with a pompom, the dress has white ruffles at the hem. They have white ruffly white socks and pointy toed, dark laceup boots. the background is a very dark circle, the are some stars/sparkles around the character. End ID]

January 11, 2022
In honor of today's holiday (first human treated with insulin 100 years ago today) and in the following days leading up to January 23, 2022 (the 100 year anniversary of Leonard Thompson sitting up from his diabetic coma), I'm sharing an excerpt of an absolutely charming book I recently purchased:
Tumblr media
Fred and Marjorie is a beautifully illustrated children's nonfiction graphic novel that tells the story of the discovery of insulin. The book was released less than a year ago and based on online reviews hasn't sold a great deal of copies just yet, but is certain to have a devoted audience based on its period appropriate art style, vintage color palette, and timely subject. I have an affinity for historical graphic novels and this is a subject particularly close to my heart.
Here's the excerpt:

The story of Fred and Marjorie's first meeting is fanciful, but the tone is lovely and the imagined portion is acknowledged. If you have the means or just want to leave a review of what you've seen so far (my review is pending I guess), a link is below.
