So I know I have a few followers that also do children’s illustration/writing work. I made a discord server for children’s lit creators and readers to get together. If anyone’s interested!

I never got people who respond to reasonable criticism against media predominantly meant for children with “it’s for kids”.
Like okay I guess children don’t deserve decent quality, emotionally intelligent art free of propaganda, harmful messaging, traumatizing material, or other content that may otherwise mentally shape them for the worse. I guess we’ll just hand them lifeless, poorly animated shit that does nothing but consume their time and energy since kids can’t appreciate art the way adults do and so they don’t deserve anything genuinely good.
Honestly, would you rather your kid watch the likes of The Lion King and Toy Story with beautiful animation, memorable characters, and both an emotionally touching and educational message, or fucking Cocomelon garbage purposed to capture their attention and nothing else, squeezing as many views out of as many young, already addicted children as humanly possible, giving them their first addiction before even school age? Y’know, the shit that reportedly alters young kids’ psychology due to sensory overload and hours of mental numbness, right? As far as you’re concerned, they’re on the same level. That's an insult to content creators everywhere.
Lmao why put effort in when there’s a chance they don’t understand or don’t appreciate the work the way the creators intended, or to the level that an adult would, right? Why give them something to look back on fondly, take morals from, take inspiration from, want to show their own children? Why feed them a healthy, hearty, full-course meal when you can hand them half a dozen candy bars and they'll be just as full in the end?
Also, are we forgetting kids’ media is literally the absolutely go-to for getting a crowd of people listen to your message and to do what you want, whether it’s encouraging them to work to save the planet, or implanting alt-right propaganda into their minds? Everyone is scrambling to make shows, movies, books and the like just for young kids because they are valuable, the liquid for the creators’ container, something free to be shaped however they want.
Everyone who deflects criticism with “it’s for children” and whatnot don’t think children deserve good art, and in turn don’t deserve it themselves if they can’t recognize and appreciate it but insist on gatekeeping it anyway.

Me and my five-year-old collaborated on this Hobbit themed board game. She did the drawings and I painted them. I made the models under her direction.

"Nyahahaha, I am Big Halloween Man! If you can trick me to drop one of my pumpkins, I'll grant you a treat! So, what'll it be, child? Trick or treat?"
Some kids asked a good friend of mine to combine some Halloweeny monsters into one big one and I found it truly inspiring!
