So. Basically. In my Chinese class we had to write up a profile on someone we’d date based off of a celebrity and said we were just going to list off the personality/physical attributes no presentation or picture or anything. So I’m like. This is fine. This is great. I’m gonna make this obnoxious and use Tankhun as my ideal person. Right?

ANYWAYS.

老师 DECIDES NO. WE NEED TO SHARE PICTURES SO SHE CAN FIGURE OUT WHO WERE TALKING ABOUT. AND IM LIKE???? IM GONNA EXPOSE MYSELF IN FRONT OF MY COLLEGE CHINESE CLASS???? BECAUSE THE ONLY PICTURES I COULD FIND HAD KINNPORSCHE PLASTERED ALL OVER IT.

AND SOMEONE RECOGNIZED HIM.

Later that day I realized I had spelled tankhuns name wrong and that’s why I couldn’t find any pictures. So now I shall go bury my head in the sand and cry for 20 something years.

personally i think changing your name should be as complicated as changing the name on your sign in sheet in chinese class in 6th grade. my babysitter told me my name was a basic bitch name so we picked a new one and on the first day of school i walked in and said “that one’s wrong. my name is 吉洁明 now” and the teacher just went “uh ok” and crossed out my name. trans bitches out there. i hereby knight myself your honorary babysitter. Your name is basic. now u have a cis people excuse (ur babysitter bullied you) to change it

Dream Entry: Aug 14, 2022

I dreamt of a recurring nightmare (this has been popping out at random occasions for years) but this time it wasn't anymore…

Our Chinese class was about to begin and I was worried because I forgot my Chinese textbook again. Then, a friend suggested that we borrow from a friend from another class. She went and ran but came back and said that she wasn't able to. I had a reaction that its quite expected that I shouldn't rely on friends. So, I myself went out and ran to the other building to look for someone who I can borrow the book from. And, I also failed. While on my way back to the class, I suddenly remembered that there was also a homework where we were asked to write on some sort of tracing paper which I also failed to do. I was already contemplating on not to go to class to avoid punishment. But, I still did and when the teacher was giving out the checked papers, she called my name and said very good. For the very first time, I had this good and warm feeling that its good to have friends who surprisingly help me out when I am in need afterall. Then, I woke up.

I wanna get around to doing some small story beats for the "Main Six Takes Manhattan" story. It'd be a good chance for me to play around with different art styles too.

I'm really excited about this story too because it'd be splitting everyone up into pairs for their own little arc.

Dash and Félicie navigate NYC's transportation system to go to a ball game: the New York Wonderbolts vs. the Washington Senators. While Dash meets her heroes, Félicie can't help but feel homesick and smothered by the big city.

The thing is. Bad/gross food is rarely a DISH - when food is bad it's because it's been badly made, whether because of skills or available ingredients. but a dish p much only exists recognisably and has a name because someone likes at least one version of it.

which is to say. there isn't really a way of naming a dish, school of dishes or specific food culture and going EW ISN'T THIS DISH UNILATERALLY CONCEPTUALLY DISGUSTING without denigrating quite a lot of people.

like you don't have to like it in any form. but it's eaten and shared because it's good to a not insubstantial number of people when cooked right.

(and I don't really understand how you approach that with total incuriosity when it's a dish you haven't tried like. ARE rocky mountain oysters good? Maybe! I would very much eat some to find out!!!!)

this is actually something the British food poll did in a way the American ones I've seen haven't really - they described how the food they're imagining is, specifically, badly prepared (grey meat and veggies; unseasoned shepherd's pie). which is wildly tipping the scales by calling it British Food but. like. that is an on point definition of why that food is gross.

(this also applies to American chocolate, which like. Broad category but I think most of us understand this refers to low-cocoa high-sugar chocolate, probably with bucolic acid. so we are being invited to imagine Badly Made Chocolate not. the concept of chocolate)

personally I just think it's very rarely a good or funny idea to shittalk how gross any given food culture is. partly because food is important and culturally evocative for most people, partly because it's very...alienating? to be like WHO COULD EAT SUCH A THING? just because you wouldn't, and largely because to be frank it says more about you than about the food that you have so little imagination or curiosity that you can't imagine why a food might be enjoyable to folks who aren't you.

yes this includes jello salad, I would like to try it. ONCE. if it wasn't appealing to someone it wouldn't be so widespread.
