So I was doing more research (like you do), this time here:
Tumblr media
It's like, a dollar on Kindle, but anyway.
I was reading the section about Xiwangmu, the Queen Mother of the West (pg 35), and it said that her consort was Dongwanggong, the King Father of the East, NOT the Jade Emperor. While this is likely just the kind of inconsistency that happens to a mythology over eons and vast distances, but it got me thinking about a story from my other source:
Tumblr media
The story of the Queen of Heaven, Tian Hou/Tian Fe Niang Niang (pg 104). Now, being described as the Queen of Heaven one would expect her to be consort to the ruler of heaven, the Jade Emperor, but I couldn't find any sources claiming that. They all said the Jade Emperor's consort was Xiwangmu.
I also had Nu Wa, an early earth goddess, on the mind because she shows up in both books. Her parentage is a bit wobbly because of how old she is, with some sources claiming her to be the daughter of the Jade Emperor, while others say she's the child of Huaxu (another powerful goddess) and Leigong, the god of thunder, along with her twin brother/husband Fu Xi.
Now, taking all this scattered and messy mythology I thought: how can I clean this up so it fits in a modern story (like LMK) in a way that makes sense? Here's what I came up with:
The Jade Emperor and Xiwangmu are both on their second marriage. JE's first wife was Tian Hou, XWM's first hubby was DWG. Both couples split for some reason before JE and XWM got together.
Nu Wa is a child from XWM's first marriage with DWG, making her JE's stepdaughter rather than his biological daughter, while Fu Xi is still the child of Huaxu and Leigong because I know gods are different, but incest is still yuck.
I know trying to iron out mythology is a pointless endeavor because they were never meant to hold together in the first place, but I think I did pretty well here. Thoughts?

Top 10 of characters that should appear in season 4
Ever since I knew about the fourth season of Monkie Kid, I've been wondering about the plot and the new characters that would appear.
So here's my own top 10 of characters, deityties and gods/godnesses that I think should appear on the new season!
Nº 10 The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl
Tumblr media
I am a sucker of romance and this kind of story should be included. The story tells of the romance between Zhinü , the weaver girl and Niulang, the cowherd; it was a forbidden romance and they were seperated in the space, with the Milky Way in between them. Once a year, on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, a flock of magpies would form a bridge to reunite the lovers for a single day, the Qixi Festival.
Why they should it appear in the show? Other that they would be an adorb couple, every show needs a valentine's episode.
Nº9 The White Snake and Green Snake
Tumblr media
Another love story that it cannot be ignored. Bai Suzhen and Xiaoqing are two snake demons of the old chinese folklore, in wihch the white snake became a deidity by saving her beloved mortal husband. We had dragon characters, so why not snake characters? I think it would be cool to have some desdants of them, either allies of villians.
Nº8 Fox Demons
Tumblr media
There's sonething about foxes that I love in the asian myths; they can either been tricky and evil or just playfull shenanigans. And that's what it's so much fun about them. They could appear as either the goddess Huxian or normal spirti foxes as like Huli Jing. I think it would be a fun idea to design a fox lego figure; I do hope theymade it a two faced one.
Nº7 Guanyin
Tumblr media
This godness of compassion was part of the Journey of the West story; she provided the Golden Headband which the Monk Tripitaka used to control the Monkey King during the quest. I can see Sun Wukong being pretty wary around her. Really! She may be like the Virgin Mary of this myth but she created a torture item that gave him headaches. I'm sure that if they make her in the Lego wolrd, she would be beautiful.
Nº6 The Jade Emperor
Tumblr media
HUGE deal with this god. And a must-to-appear character that the gang had to face one of this days. The Jade Emperor should be intimidating and solemn, and also someone else that Sun Wukong would not want to face soon. After all, he created an havoc on the Celestial Realm.
Nº5 The Jade Rabbit (Or Moon Rabbit)
Tumblr media
One thing that I missed in the episode with Chang'e was the Jade Rabbit. I don't know if it was the one of the opening of her cooking tv show or if the creature created the robot rabbits for some reasons, but I do really want to see it interacting with others. Apperently, the rabbit was also an antagonist of the Journey of the West. Which means the bunny has an story with Sun Wukong... I imagine that, ironically, the monkey isn't so keen with the fluffy animal. Yes, he was all adorable with the robot rabbit; but he knew what attitude the rabbit truly has and he would go "Oh, it's you again?"
Nº4 Sha Wujing
Tumblr media
Now to the canon characters that I do hope we can see, in flashbacks at least. I start with Sha Wujing of the Sand River and an general of Heaven that was dishonered by his own bad actions. In the series we know so little about him and his conection with Sandy that it would be nice to see him and the power he has in the past.
Nº3 Zhu Bajie
Tumblr media
Now this pig contrast a lot with Pigsy. Unlike our favortie cook, this celestial swine was more twisted and egoist in the story. This guy had been kidnapping ladies and threating villages like the typical villian of the story, but he had the chance of redemption like the others disciples of the monk. I totally see the Bajie and Wukong having bikering and fights like two not-ask-to-be brothers.
Nº2 The White Dragon Horse
Tumblr media
Who doesn't love dragons? Bai Long Ma has become one of the secondary characters that we need to appreciate and know better. The plot twist that he protected his monk friend by becoming the fourth Ring of the Samadhi Fire was unpredictable and needed to be deeped. Somehow it seems like the Dragon family didn't knew about this inconvinience curse or whatever. Why did he concealed the secret? And what would be Mei's opinion of his great-great-etc-grandfather? And also, why we didn't saw him shapeswift into a horse yet?
Nº1 Tang Sanzang
Tumblr media
Why is he in the top one you ask? Because I do feel like his presence would be appearing more in the future series, now that we know that Mr Tang it's his reincarnated. This monk also called Tripitaka was a crutial, and still is, role of patience and kindness that it makes impact to the people he is surrounded. He gave his disciples the chance to change, to become better, because he saw in them a smigde of goodness that they can achieve... Even in the Lady Bone Demon, sadly. His power and energy needs to be explored and see in flashbacks. I feel like Sun Wukong would still remember his master with respect and caring.
Those are my top 10, what are yours?

Published in 2022, Sue Lynn Tan’s ‘Daughter of the Moon Goddess’ is set in a fantasy land inspired by classical Chinese mythology. Filled with romance, danger, and magic, the novel tells the story of Xingyin, daughter of the moon goddess, Chang’e, and her mortal husband, Hou Yi.
Hou Yi and Chang’e are two famous tragic lovers of Chinese myth. Their story is said to be the origins of the Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, which is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese Lunar Calendar.
Hou Yi was a famous archer, the most skilled in the world, good enough to even gain the favour of the gods – something that would be both his blessing and his downfall.
The world once had ten suns – the children of the Emperor Di Jun and his wife Xihe. Taking the form of three-legged crows, the suns spent most of their time resting in a mulberry tree. Each day one of the suns would travel through the sky. One day, all ten of the suns decided to appear in the sky together, flying too close to the earth and scorching it. The heat was so great that it seemed all of humanity would be wiped out. Hou Yi was called upon to save the day, and he put his incredible archery skills to good use – shooting down all the of the suns but one.

The Tale of the Rabbit God
This telling of the myth comes from Zibuyu, or What the Master would not discuss. A translation of old Chinese myths into modern Mandarin, this particular translation was done by Nathaniel Hu, however there are other English translations on the internet.
In the early years of the Qing Dynasty, there was a certain yushi (censor)who had completed the civil examination in his young age. When He made an inspection tour to Fujian, there was a man named Hu Tianbao, who was smitten by his outstanding beauty (this young censor was a pretty boy). Wherever he went out in his sedan chair or in the court, Hu would steal glances on him. The censor felt uneasy, puzzled by Hu's behavior, and his subordinates dared not speak up.
Not long afterward, the censor went to inspect another county, and Hu followed him. Along the way, he secretly hid in toilet to peek at his buttocks. The censor more suspicious than ever summoned him for questioning. At first Hu remained silent, but after three strokes of cane he confessed “The truth is I was taken by his Excellency’s good looking, and could not get you out of my mind. I realize you are heavenly cassia, out of bonds from common birds. But my heart already runs away, so without meaning to, I have behaved so improperly." Hearing this, the censor flew into rage. He immediately ordered his subordinatest o kill him under a dead tree.
A month later Hu Tianbao's soul appeared in the dream of a man from the same district, to pass his message "Because my mind carried away by improper thoughts, I offended a guiren(a person of high rank), so it was appropriate that I died this way. But truly it was pure act of love, a moment of infatuation and nothing at all like mischievousness. The official of underworld mocked me, but none was blame me. Now the official of underworld was appointed me as the Rabbit God, bestowing me with the duty of supervising matters relating to men who desire other men. Please build a temple for me,and invite the public to offer incense and candles."
There had long been talk of a custom existing in Fujian, where men sought other men to be hisqidi(bond younger brothers). As words from the man's dream spread, everyone rushed to collect donations and erect a temple. The result was positive and immediate. All who desired secret rendezvous or had been frustrated in their pursuit of other man, flocked to offer prayers.
Cheng Yumen (The author's friend) said "This handsome censor has not read the chapter in Yanzi Chunqiu, where Duke Jing of Qi was advised not to kill his feather man.
Mr. Di Weiren had a different story. It is said that Di was young and handsome when he was a compiler in the Hanlin Academy. There was a young man who stepped forward to be his driver; he was working hardly while declining payment. Di was very pleased with him. Before long, the driver became seriously sick, there was no doctor or medicine could save him. As he was about to die, he called his master and told him "I, your servant will soon die and must tell you something. I am dying because I am smitten by your good looking." Mr Di laughed and touched his shoulder "Silly boy, if that is how you felt, why you didn’t tell it earlier." He arranged a proper funeral for him.
Notes
Qidi (bond younger brothers) has connotation for gay partners.
Duke Jing of Qi was said to be very handsome. One of his yuren (feathermen) was once staring at him with desire. It make the Duke very angry and nearly killed him
Yuren or feather man is an official who responsible for gathering feathers for tribute

I'm sure all one of my followers were waiting with bated breath for my daily sh*tpost, but wait no longer, for I am here! Time for Kuan Yin 2, Electric Boogaloo!
You know how I said in my last post that Miao Shan/Kuan Yin's family all moved to live with her in the Southern Seas? WELL I may have skimmed over a FEW details about the trip. Nothing big, you know, just your standard kidnapping.
You see, on the way to the mountain the king and queen get kidnapped by the White Elephant and the Green/AZURE Lion. No one you know, I'm sure. But don't worry, the kidnapping gets fixed with the help of Ao Guang and someone my book calls the "Red Child Devil."
What.
I'm sorry,
WHAT?!
Those that haven't read JttW may not understand my confusion, so allow me to elaborate.
In JttW, Kuan Yin is present during Monkey's rampage through Heaven as well as his sealing under Five Phases Mountain. Then, after Buddha creates the sacred macguffin that is the driving force of the entire plot, she goes and chooses the Scripture Pilgrim and his dum-dum disciples around 500 years later. This means that Kuan Yin was already at least 500 years old by the time the story really gets going and the pilgrim posse meets Hong Hai'er aka Red Boy aka Red Child Devil aka RED SON. She takes him on as her disciple and nothing seems TOO wierd until you think about the timeline of events.
Kuan Yin was still in her 20's or maybe 30's when her family moved in with her in the Southern Seas yet Red Boy, a character she doesn't become affiliated with until she's at least 500 (maybe older, the length of Wukong's imprisonment is vague) is already helping her out??
You might argue that Red might just be a bit older than we thought, until you remember that his father the Bull Demon King is Wukong's sworn brother and definitely would have told Monkey all about his kid even IF said child was sent away to be raised by another diety to control his fire powers. This man had his son's date of birth memorized to the SECOND, you think he'd skimp on bragging about his kid to his friends? Yet in JttW, neither Monkey nor Red seem to know each other. Monkey only even learns Red is his sworn brother's son because some local mountain gods tell him, not one of them recognizing the other.
This is likely a case of mythology not really holding together under scrutiny because it wasn't MADE to, as is often the norm. Most videos by OSP will show many more examples. Here, Red was probably added to the list of rescuers because he was associated with Kuan Yin in later bits of folklore and mythology without anyone taking too close a look at it because they weren't really interested in that.
Anyway, enough about my Red Son tangent, didn't I mention something about Azure Lion? Yes, he and Yellow Tusk are there kidnapping Kuan Yin's parents. Why? Who knows! But they end the story being caught and forced to be the mounts of Kuan Yin's older sisters, which could wring out some juicy character drama if they ever met the goddess herself in more modern media.

The kindness of strangers is the strangest thing. Excepting the kindness of birds.
The moon is a lonely place, although I am not alone.
The empty planes of my home are covered only in silver and grey fields, empty of everything except the craters and the hills that mar the surface, far less beautiful than the trees that used to fill my horizons.
Below my once-home is round and wet and pebbled like a dampened stone, a blue and perfect sphere with jagged curls of green and brown and grey, growing lichen-like across its distant face.
