An intro to the historical Zheng Yi Sao
Ruibo Qian's character in Our Flag Means Death is based on a real person, though like all its real pirates, she is a loose interpretation. In particular, the real Zheng Yi Sao wasn't born until 57 years after the real Blackbeard died!
In real life, she lived from 1775 to 1844. She was known by a variety of names; her birth name is usually given as Shi Yang. Zheng Yi Sao is the name most often used, which literally means "the wife of Zheng Yi" (more on him later), and you may also see variations like Ching Shih or Madam Cheng, depending on transliteration. Calling her Zheng, as Oluwande does, is good, or ZYS in fandom chat, but if fic writers crave a more personal connotation for a scene, Yang is a good choice for a given name consistent with the real woman. It's like the difference between Mr. Buttons and Nathaniel.
She was born in the Guangdong province, and many bios of her claim she worked on one of the boat brothels there, but this is speculation only.
When she married Zheng Yi, he was a successful member of a pirating dynasty, working as a privateer for emperors of Vietnam. The couple collaborated to unite six different pirate fleets operating off the Guangdong coast into a confederation, sealed with an agreement signed by the captains of each. Zheng Yi was informally recognized as the overall leader of the confederation until his death in a storm two years after the signing.
Zheng Yi Sao had the respect of other key figures in the alliance, and her smooth assumption of leadership was followed by a period of huge success and expansion for the pirate confederation, driving the Chinese government to desperation. This is where her reputation as a pirate "queen" comes from in real life, though I'm excited to see where the show goes with her fictional conquest of China!
In 1810, Zheng Yi Sao recognized that the confederation faced internal fractures and additional opposition, as Portuguese and British military forces allied with Chinese ships, so she led the confederation to bow out on a high, and use their immense power to bargain for a peaceful retirement, surrendering ships and weapons for pardons, supplies, and money. Although it's fictional that her crew was predominantly women, when Zheng Yi Sao surrendered, she did so accompanied by a delegation wholly composed of women and children who belonged to the confederation. At that time, the confederation consisted of 226 ships, 24 of which personally reported to Zheng Yi Sao.
If you're doing the math, she was only in her mid-thirties, and was far from done with life. She remarried, to one of her former captains, Zhang Bao, and accompanied him to the Penghu Islands, where he commanded a garrison. After his death, she returned to Guangdong and had another career of twenty-odd years, becoming the owner of a casino until her death at age 68 or 69 (nice).
She was one of the most successful pirates in history, both because of her power and her ability to survive it. I think she's neat as hell, and so have a lot of fiction writers! You might have encountered versions of her, or characters inspired by her, before, in things like Pirates of the Caribbean, the Bloody Jack novels, Assassin's Creed, and Doctor Who. It's fun to see a form of her in this! We can expect her arc to progress differently, but I hope having some context will help.
The most helpful things to note for the rest of the season for ofmd fans will be that Zheng is her surname, she wasn't really a contemporary of the other historical figures, and that her connection to sex work should not be treated as a fact, whether you want to include it in this fictional interpretation or not.

As a romance die-hard aww are you saying there’s been less romance with wukong in recent years? Is romantic wukong at least popular in chinese fandom?
I have to say that the early 2000s was definitely the height of Wukong Romance movies, and it has started to tether off. That doesn’t say that there aren’t any romance movies just not as much as probably what I would call the first wave of romance genre.
But yes most of the romance movies are actually very low quality, to say the least… most just feel like cash, grabs, or more comedy with a romance plot and a very flaky message. If anything, a lot of romance fans aren’t big fans of Xiyouji romance movies (besides Chinese Odyssey which kicked off the first wave of romance movies) because there isn’t a lot of attention or time given to the relationship, but rather, it’s mostly focused on Wukong moving on and growing from that heartbreak. If anything, I think the most successful romance movies that have Wukong as the romance partner are the kind that are inspired by the Chinese Odyssey like Bio of Wukong. Bio of Wukong also has the SO die but at least a lot of the movie was actually focused on them growing closer as characters. Many others are mostly forgettable or just boring. I would say that at least when it comes to Wukong being romanic in the fandom I wouldn't say the genre is 'popular' but more that people ship him with other people in the novel. There is a lot of crack shipping for fun as well but that is all in good humor as I think most people don't take shipping too seriously.
If anything, if you’re a huge romance fan I cannot recommend you more to start watching Bajie movies. Nearly every movie or TV show with Bajie as the main character, which is quite a bit, has romance in it and honestly, I think it’s handled a lot better. And I think that’s just because of how directors see Wukong versus Bajie. Wukong he’s always meant to be like a tragic hero, who hast to give up what he wants for the greater good because he has to let others go for them to move on and for him to also grow as a person.
But with Bajie he is seen as an inherently, selfish character with flaws but flaws in the way that he wants to be loved and wants to love but circumstances stop him. He is someone who knows that he wants to be loved but is never taken seriously because he is also the clown of the story, he isn't the strong reliable hero, he is just a man trying his best. I think that’s also why he’s so popular with a lot of people because he is also seen as such a flawed character and while he does get better within the narrative, a lot of people can see themselves with those flaws and relate to the idea of never been good enough than anything else. It isn't often that he gets the SO in the end but it is more often that he knows that he is loved for who he is and can love others as well.
So while romance with Wukong isn’t exactly the most popular Bajie with romance is absolutely knocking it out of the park!! Xiyouji romance is still alive and well!!

you got any indie comics recommendations?
OH BOY DO I
So some of these are educational graphic novels bc of who I am as a person but they're SUPER GOOD and you should still read them - but here's my list of recommendations in no particular order
Marie Curie: A Quest for Light (a graphic novel bio of the famous scientist that highlights her politics!)
Folklords (only 5 issues, does some really cool stuff with subverted fantasy tropes, Ansel is a cutie, 8/10)
The Magicians (this is based on the book series by Lev Grossman, and if you're familiar with the FX show you already know the premise, but it's VERY FUN and I like it so it's on here)
The Good Neighbors (this is more of a YA vibe and as the title suggests deals with fae nonsense, very fun)
Something is Killing the Children (some other comics go along with this one like House of Slaughter, all are in the horror genre, and it's a GREAT TIME if you're into that sort of thing)
Shubeik Lubeik (THIS IS A REALLY COOL BOOK ABOUT WISHES AND HOW THOSE WOULD LOOK IN A MORE REALISTIC CAIRO AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH)
Pixies of the Sixties (this is a period piece that deals with things like xenophobia and racism while also playing up the aesthetics of 1960s London and fairies)
Now Let Me Fly: A Portrait of Eugene Bullard (a graphic novel bio of the first African-American fighter pilot)
Little Monsters (a horror story about children vampires in a post apocalyptic setting)
Judas (yes, Iscariot, it's a really fascinating look at the Biblical figure)
Heavy Vinyl (wlw, late 90s record store, teen girl vigilante fight club- good times)
Grimm (based on the NBC show of the same name, there are other titles set in this world too, I'm very fond of this extremely trashy fairtytale-cop show mashup and how poorly it represents cops)
Godshaper (there's a god for every person, except one and he teams up with a god who doesn't have a person and together they travel around looking for a warm welcome and a paying rock gig)
Evita, the Life and Work of Eva Perón (a biography of the former Argentinian first lady)
Eat the Rich (a little bit like Knives Out)
Carmilla: The First Vampire (queer feminist murder mystery inspired by the gothic novel, Carmilla, and pulling from Chinese folklore)
Bone Parish (a necromantic horror story about the rich peddling drugs made with the ashes of the deceased)
Blue Book (true tales of ordinary people encountering the strange and impossible - ex. alien abductions)
Art Brut (equal parts police procedural, hyper-fantasy, and psychological thriller set on a backdrop of a trip through art history)
Aristotle (biography of the philosopher dealing with more than just his ideas)
Alienated (a story about having the power to change the world but not being ready to wield that power- more YA vibes but a good read for any age imo)
Abbott (and Abbott: 1973- a tabloid reporter investigates grisly crimes she knows the police have ignored and that she knows are occult in origin)

I am currently open for freelance editing projects :)
Hey y’all! If anyone needs an editor, I have bandwidth right now and have opened back up for editing work. I’m down for anything, “anything” defined here as:
Developmental edits. This includes some manuscript comments, but largely focuses on a comprehensive edit letter comprising notes on plot, character, style, voice, and theme.
Line edits. Feeling good about the bones of your story, but worried that you’re bogged down by inefficient language, indistinct dialogue, or the odd wandering character arc? The line edit may be for you.
Copyedits. Grammar, usage, spelling, etc. Every nit picked. Fair warning: I don’t use a style guide, because I find that imposing e.g. the Chicago Manual of Style on fiction messes with things like “voice” and “fun.” My emphasis will fall on clarity, and on tone: does it feel right?
Query letter edits. Pitches are hell, but weirdly, I love them. Rate: $35 flat fee for a query, $50 for a synopsis. $10 for each revision pass thereafter (I will, of course, not charge you if my response to a revision is “This slaps!”).
Essay, article, or cover letter proofing. For ethical reasons I won’t review academic material, and for national security reasons I won't review classified CIA documents :( Rate: $15 flat fee, plus 2¢/word.
I don't do authenticity editing on its own, because it makes me feel weird. That said, if you happen to have a protagonist who’s bi or pan or Chinese-American or multiracial and you’re like, “Oh no, have I messed this up horribly,” feel free to request that I take a look from that angle. Same for characters with depression, anxiety, or relatively mild ADHD.
Also: I have no reading triggers or content aversions. I'm fine with any kind of material, disturbing, upsetting, or very very sexy though it may be.
My rates for fiction editing vary based on project length and status. With something under 10k words, I feel relatively comfortable ballparking around 2¢/word for developmental/line and 1.5¢/word for copyediting, but beyond that, I’d want to test-edit a sample. Occasionally I’ll swap to an hourly rate thereafter, because what if you send over the next Hunger Games, and I tear through it in three hours, but at 2¢/word it’s supposed to cost $1,600? Ridiculous. I hate editing rates.
You can message me here on tumblr or email me directly at [email protected] if you’d like to hire me. If you have a question, don't be shy about reaching out to ask. I am not a salesperson and will never try to hard-sell you.
If you know anybody looking for an editor, please do pass them this post! On this hellsite I know I am just another weirdo, but in real life, I have the qualifications to provide writers with high-quality editing backed up by years of experience in the publishing industry. Per The Official Bio:
Let’s take your fiction to the next level!
I'm the author of four novels: Alone Out Here, published by Disney-Hyperion; and Seven Ways We Lie, Noteworthy, and Final Draft, published by Abrams Books. My books have been published on four continents, optioned for film and TV, given seven starred reviews from critics, and named to Best-of-the-Year lists by Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, and the New York Public Library. Besides editing my own fiction, I've also done editorial work for authors whose books are published at Scholastic, HarperCollins, Penguin Random House, and more.
As an editor, I dive in with an underlying enthusiasm for every project. I'm not interested in trying to alter others' work to my tastes, but in recognizing what story a writer wants to tell and helping them reach that destination, whether with a developmental edit or a final polish. I'm happy to edit works of any length and genre, though my specialty is in fiction, and particularly in children's and YA fiction.
Reblogs would be greatly, greatly appreciated! xo

Trying to look into a Chinese Webtoon be like...
Tumblr media
So there is this one webtoon I read on Comikey (called To Be or Not to Be there, elsewhere a.k.a. How to Survive as a Villain a.k.a. This Villain Emperor's Gotta Charm the Male Lead to Survive!) that I kind of quite liked, but the translation is very, well, webtoon-level, and so I got curious as to how it looked in its original version. Bilibili has the first 20 chapters for free, too, and before the first chapter or even before the chapter 0 teaser there's a little summary with character bios (Chapter 1 人物私密档案公布!).
Which has, well, a picture, and a few character stats like height, personality and such. And there's also 性取向, "sexual orientation".
And there it says:
Xiao YuAn (before being isekai'd):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
= Sexual orientation: Unknown (which tracks, it's both unknown and if you ask me, he just comes off as downright aroace, even more so in the novel.)
Xiao YuAn (after being isekai'd):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
= Sexual orientation:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yan HeQin
Tumblr media Tumblr media
= Sexual orientation:
Tumblr media
And I'm just like, what is this glorious trolling?

The author's bio is a treat:
Charles S. Faddis served for 20 years as an operations officer in the Central Intelligence Agency, including as a department chief at the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center and as a chief of station in the Middle East. He earned his B.A. from Johns Hopkins University and his J.D. from the University of Maryland Law School. He is the author of several books, including Willful Neglect: The Dangerous Illusion of Homeland Security and Beyond Repair: The Decline and Fall of the CIA.
I wonder what he identifies as the failures of the CIA? Let's see:
The CIA had no sources inside Al Qaeda to tell us about the 9/11 plot.
The CIA didn't immediately attribute COVID-19, known to be descended from bat-borne coronaviruses, to the bat coronavirus gain-of-function research in the Wuhan lab.
Bureaucracy and a risk-averse culture.
Loss of skills, but also loss of mystique: "The people who run our government [...] have done their best to turn the CIA into just another federal agency. [...] We act as if anyone can be taught to conduct espionage—as if this is no longer an arcane craft to be practiced by a select group of unique people."
"The CIA has proved unable to put a source inside a Chinese bio lab, within the leadership structure of the Taliban, or next to Vladimir Putin."
The CIA has been politicized: backing Hillary Clinton in the Benghazi inquiries, aiding the Trump dossier investigation, and former intelligence officers decrying the Hunter Biden laptop as Russian propaganda.
The first point is transparently false; read the 9/11 Report and you will learn that the CIA had "real-time intelligence" on Bin Laden as early as 1996, with a plan to capture the known terrorist financier in place by the fall of 1997. That Bin Laden was planning to hijack civilian airliners was known as early as 1998.
The second point is still a matter of contention.
The third point is true of every part of government, but is especially true in international politics, geez.
The fourth point makes Charles Faddis sound like he's been reading too many spy novels where there's no risk of war from getting found out.
The fifth point is false as to Al Qaeda and laughable as to Putin. And if the CIA had any assets in Wuhan, their existence would be so totally classified that the CIA would hesitate to use their information in public, because the CIA prefers to not have its spies tortured and executed.
The sixth point reads like the seething cope of a man whose ideology is opposed by the Deep State, whether or not his facts are right. It is incredibly ironic that he complains that the CIA, which historically reported only to the President, was a political tool of the presidential administration of a Democrat.
So what does he identify as solutions?
Fire a lot of people.
"Recruiting must be completely revamped. Quotas are absurd. Focusing on color, gender, and sexual orientation is at best irrelevant. We want the best, and that means those people who possess the unique blend of skills and abilities that enable them to do what everyone else considers impossible."
Make training tougher.
Flatten the org chart and make it all about ops, not about analysis or support.
... for a man complaining that the CIA wasn't able to put spies in specific locations, he seems awfully invested in removing the ability of the CIA to recruit people who will blend in in those locations due to their color, gender, and sexual orientation.

Can i throw you a bone for some meta? So there’s a foot note in the seven seas en trans of mdzs that’s been echoing in my brain for the past month (vol 3 pg 56):
[The Four Great Grudges of ancient times are] “murder of one’s father (not patricide), robbery of one’s wife, annihilation of one’s country, and slaughter of one’s clan. A som will not have fulfilled his proper duty until the wrong is avenged, even at the cost of his life.”
Unfortunately I can’t find the Chinese source term (it should be somewhere in chps 51-55, when LWJ shoves some medicinal herbs at WWX’s burn mark despite his leg being bitten by the giant turtle monster.) Anyway, this totally reframed the narrative for me cuz I got thinking about who actually followed through, and the ‘statue of limitations’ on that vengeance. And then a lot about how Jiang Cheng was able to get his revenge, but he specifically didn’t let Jin Ling follow through on his, despite the Ghost General offering up his own head. Does Jiang Cheng actually have any rights to pursue further vengeance against Wei Wuxian after his first death? (And as a side note, how come no one ever calls him Jiang Wanyin except when he introduces himself to Lan Xichen and that final scene at the Jiang family mausoleum? It’s even like that in the donghua.) Then whether Lan Sizhui, after having been formally adopted into the Lan clan, has any right to vengeance at all. Is it like ‘war times, war crimes’ and then in peace times nothing you can do about it?
Food for thought. Would be super awesome if you answered, but no pressure. Have a lovely day :)
Hi Anon,
Thanks for your ask ☺️
I've been sitting on this a while, as I wasn't quite sure how to approach this - so apologies for the late response.
It's a very interesting question! And admittedly, it's not something I paid much attention to during my reading of the 7s version.
I'm not sure how seriously people take the little added extras 7s have 'bestowed' upon us, to be honest. They added a character bio for NHS that stated his weapon as 'crying' - which is hilarious, but not really canon.. well 🤔 They also rather infamously added a character bio for JFM that looked suspiciously like Madam Yu wrote it herself - just to name a few! So personally, I do take everything they add as 'extras' with a pinch of salt.
But, as you took the time to send such a detailed and interesting ask - we can certainly have a look at it! 🤗
These are my own opinions of course, and others may have different ideas. But as I said, this is just for fun.
Personally I don't think JC has any right at revenge against WWX in either lifetime. But since we're referencing the 'Four Great Grudges' as a reason - his apparent claim would be 'slaughter of one's clan'. But WWX did not slaughter the clan. Although the Wen sect gave WWX as the thinly veiled reason for coming to the sect, he was not the real cause and it was not by his own hand. JC even admitted later in the novel that the Wen sect would have eventually attacked either way. If we look at it another way though, JC definitely got revenge for the death of his father and the slaughter of his clan. He contributed in bringing the Wen sect down and (practically) annihilated the entire clan with the rest of the cultivation world. So he's had his revenge, that's for certain - and technically, that is very much thanks to WWX!
As for JL, his reason for revenge, according to the 'Four Great Grudges' would be 'murder of one's father'. This is a tough one. Firstly, his father died during a surprise attack on WWX - where WWX was just trying to defend himself during an ambush. Granted JZX was only there to stop the attack, but WWX wasn't sure if he should trust him. Since JZX was the one who invited him in the first place, it's difficult not to be suspicious! JZX wasn't very fair in asking WWX to back down first, when he was the one who was being attacked either. At this point WWXs trust is broken, so it's a big ask for him to step down first and put his life at risk. Not that it excuses the fact he was killed of course. JZXs death, although tragic, was an accident after all, so it technically wasn't murder as such. Not that anyone thought that at the time, they had already painted WWX as evil no matter what he did. But I guess in JLs eyes it was murder either way.
I'm not sure what JL knows about what happened back then - but considering the rumours and JC being his uncle, it probably had WWX as the devil incarnate. As JL was only a little baby at the time, JC might have exacted revenge for him by proxy after leading the siege at the burial mounds - so does that count? Granted, JC didn't kill WWX - but he did die during the siege.
Eventually, JL does attempt (albeit, perhaps halfheartedly) to exact revenge on WWX, once his identity is publicly revealed. Once he knows MXY is definitely WWX, he subsequently stabs him. Thankfully WWX lives and it seems JL is actually relieved about that!
In the end JL focuses all his hatred and blame on WN - because he's gotten to know WWX and has realised he's not this awful person people say. After all, WWX has saved him and others a number of times now. It's JLs own choice to let the past stay in the past in the end. WN offers JL the opportunity to take his frustration out on him, while they're sailing towards Lotus Pier near the end of the novel - but he doesn't. JL later witnesses WN being punched straight through the heart, just like WN did to his father all those years ago. This all happened while WN was trying to protect JC and JL from the incredibly ripped fierce corps that is NMJ. I think JL does indeed have some of his mother's good traits after all. In the end he lets all this hatred go and moves on. So I guess he doesn't technically fulfil his duty according to the 'Four Great Grudges' - but you know what, I don't think either of his parents would want him to anyway. Yes, even JZX!
Finally, onto LSZ!
I don't think LSZ would take revenge on people for what happened to his clan to be honest. He has the same core values of both WWX and LWJ, because of the way he was brought up. Yes, WWX took revenge back when he escaped the burial mounds, but WWX was not in the right frame of mind at that point in time. He was utterly traumatised and his mental state was incomprehensible. But WWX doesn't take revenge in his second life. He lets the past stay in the past, moving on to have the happily ever after he deserves, with LWJ. He knows full well, no good will come from revenge in the end.
If LSZ was going to take revenge, who would he take it out on? The whole cultivation world participated in the siege that killed his family. Including to a lesser extent, the Lan clan. His deceased relatives even resurrected to help WWX and everyone fighting against the corpses during the second siege. Just like WWX, the Wen remnants saved people who had been there during the first siege, as well as their descendants. People who might have contributed to their deaths. Yet they helped save them. I think even if A-Yuan wanted to seek retribution, this would be going directly against not only his dead relatives wishes and sacrifice - but everything WWX and LWJ have attempted to protect him from. LWJ went to great lengths to cover up LSZs connection to the Wen sect, even giving him the Lan last name - all in order to keep him safe. LSZ would never disregard what either of them have done for him, even if he wanted revenge. At least I don't think so!
.
As for the 'statue of limitations', obviously I'm not sure what the laws and such are in MDZS - but from the fact people are still after revenge on WWX some 13 years later, I'd say there probably isn't any statue of limitations! So I guess it's just a free-for-all!
As one of the cultivators at the second siege said:
"...With the works of karma, it’s never too late for revenge!”....
Chapter 68
It seems to be the general consensus for revenge!
*Your side note on JC's name. Others do use his courtesy name; such as JGY, JGS and LWJ. We don't tend to hear him interact with others that often and when we do it's usually as "Sect Leader Jiang" or something similar. Other than family or friends, when he is directly called by his birth name, this is out of disrespect from people he has usually angered (cultivators on Dafan Mountain and so on). Obviously WWX uses his birth name out of familiarity, as he does with LWJ. But apart from that, people use his courtesy name or honorifics ☺️
Hope you have a lovely day Anon! And thank you again for the ask 🤗

Rules
General rp etiquette applies. Including not reblogging rps you're not a part of.
I'm mutuals only (and can be slow to check out new followers, sorry).
I don't rp smut and I'm not here just for shipping.
Due to personal preferences, I will absolutely not do any romantic shipping with Nie Mingjue, Lan Xichen, Jin Guangyao or any minors.
The Muse does some questionable things, but that doesn't mean the Mun agrees with those actions.
I welcome AUs and crossovers.
Your muse should preferably have an about section (for ocs this is a must) and I also prefer if you have rules that I can read.
I have the right to decline an rp, but that is not something I do often.
Any headcanons I write that includes another canon character are based on my view of that character (or Huaisang's view) and if you rp that muse it's up to you if you agree with I wrote and want to integrate that into our rp/history. I'll never force my hc about another muse onto someone else.
These rules might change or get added to. I will make a post about it if that happens.

Top 5 early 2000s Charlie pics (so shameless of me, I just want to see pics). Also top 5 books.
I’m not complaining.
In no particular order:
1. He looks like a classic movie star and I love it.
Tumblr media
2. Charlie smiling is nice no matter what, but I know from the rest of the set that he’s smiling at Mick, which makes it that much better.
Tumblr media
3. I mean, do we even need to say why?
Tumblr media
4. It’s neat to see Charlie in a space that he decorated, and it’s especially nice to see him looking so relaxed and comfortable in his own skin. This is 2000, so that good period post-‘80s drinking/drugs and pre-cancer, when he seemed to have more confidence than he ever had before or would again.
Tumblr media
5. Isn’t it lovely to see an old married couple that still enjoys each other’s company?
Tumblr media
I’m not sure if this is for the Stones or all books in general, so I’ll just do both.
(With the caveat that I’m a massive book nerd and asking me to pick my favorite is like asking someone to choose a favorite kid, so I’m just going a bit randomly and only doing fiction. Also, as before, no particular order).
Stones:
1. Life by Keith Richards
It’s biased, but he’s entertaining as hell/so damn bitchy, and there is Charlie propaganda galore.
2. The True Adventures of The Rolling Stones by Stanley Booth
An interesting view into the Stones as a cultural force, as well as their band dynamics, and Stanley’s obvious crush on Shirley is hilarious.
3. Sympathy for the Drummer by Mike Edison
Quite honestly, I don’t read a lot of band books/celebrity bios, and a lot of that has to do with the fact that the writing is trash. Totally not the case here. Edison has a very Hunter S. Thompson meets Tom Wolfe, gonzo/New Journalism style that makes the book enjoyable to read even just for the prose. Of course, the most important part is that it’s all about why Charlie Watts is amazing.
4. S.T.P. by Robert Greenfield
Like the Booth book, a cool view into the band itself and its cultural impact. The book he wrote about following them in 1971 is also pretty good.
5. Stoned by Jo Wood
Lots of great, candid photos.
Books in general:
1. My Name is Red by Orhan Pamuk
This is a novel about a miniaturist in the 16th century Ottoman Empire, but it’s also an exploration of religion, love, sex, violence, art, and everything else under the sun. The subject is already close to my heart, both because Islamic miniature painting is an art form I love and that period/place intersects with my professional life, but the prose is mind bendingly good. Each chapter has a different narrator, and it’s not only people that narrate, but the color red, a corpse, death, etc.
2. Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh
Waugh is one of my favorite English novelists, and this may be my favorite one of his books. It’s sweeping yet still human, sad but still retains hope, funny and dark without losing any of its gravity. The description of Charles and Sebastian under the tree with Aloysius the teddy will haunt me forever.
3. The Collected Poems in English: Joseph Brodsky
Poetry is a little outside of fiction, but I adore Brodsky, so we’ll stretch. To be quite honest, I’m guessing that this is the best resource to read him in English, because I have all of his work in Russian, but please, read him any way you can. He’s criminally underappreciated outside of the Russophone world, and his work is just shatteringly amazing. If you’ve never tried anything by him, look up “May 24, 1980.”
4. Love in A Fallen City and Other Stories by Eileen Chang
This is a novella attached to a collection of short stories, and every piece deserves to be written. Chang shines a fascinating light on early 20th century Chinese culture and society, normally from an often little appreciated female perspective. Even though many of her works focus on relationships between men and women, she’s not any kind of stereotypical romance writer, and you get a lot more than cheap tears or saccarine happy endings.
5. Love in the Ruins by Walker Percy
It’s the voice that draws me to this book, and I think that’s also what makes it so engaging. Dr. Thomas More (descendant of the famous author of Utopia) is a southern doctor struggling day to day to look after his patients in a disintegrating country. He’s also an alcoholic, a lapsed Catholic, and a divorcee who lost a daughter and ricochets between women trying to find stability and meaning while waiting for the end of the world.

Was that [NEO HOU/HOU MING HAO]? Oh no no, that was just [WU XIE], a/an [CANON CHARACTER]from [GRAVE ROBBERS’ CHRONICLES]. They are [TWENTY SIX] years old and [ARE] aware that they are not actually from Washington DC. Too bad they can’t stray from this city for long.  Hello! I am Meaghan, I haven't rped in like 3 years and this is Wu Xie!
Wu Xie is the main character from Grave Robbers' Chronicles, a Chinese novel series and also several drama adaptations following the books.
It's kind of an Chinese Indiana Jones but it involves like 9 families (not all of them are in the series but the prequel the The Mystic Nine the families are involved....plus the other 2 main characters are an immortal who also has amnesia and a bestie who just wants treasure and food. and his name literally translates to 'fat man') for generations have been protecting yet also grave robbing treasures from bad guys wanting to get immortality?
It's hard to explain so I'll link the wiki page of the series to this below. But the series are quite good (and the sequel based 10 years later) but the FC who I am using is my favourite from one of the series adaptations. I’m still editing his bio page but yeah.
Wu Xie is an antique shop owner, and liaisons with the museums about the authenticity of artifacts. I'm from Australia so I use the English spelling, pre warning in advance!
So things below is a little about me:
I like kdramas and cdramas, Doctor Who, Criminal Minds, Supernatural, TVD/TO/Legacies, Merlin, Marvel, DC, Harry Potter, some anime, amongst many other things. I did have another character in mind but all my gifs I made for him were deleted from years ago.... I might do characters from The Mysterious Thief Yamaneko or An Incurable Case of Love and others maybe in the near future.
In regards to TV series and movies, honestly recommend me shows to watch and I can do the same if you want some not so familiar Asian dramas. Or crime shows. I love crime shows. However I am not really a horror fan.
I am a dog lover and owner, even though I am allergic to animal hair
I have a obsession with the river puppy aka hippo. I find them adorable
I have autism and ADHD and actually do a lot of research in my own time about the two neurodiversities on a blog even though I am about to finish my diploma in nursing (no more assessments though!).
If there is a misunderstanding, it's most likely by accident but feel free to let me know! I do sometimes find it hard to express in writing so I may accidentally use the wrong word. If it doesn't make sense, tell me so I can improve my writing!
I love to talk, so if you want to chat or plot, feel free to dm me!

Fatty Alcohol Ethoxylates (FAE) Market Insight, Outlook, Report 2022-2029
BlueWeave Consulting, a leading strategic consulting and market research firm, in its recent study, estimated the Global Fatty Alcohol Ethoxylates (FAE) Market size at USD 3.21 billion in 2023. During the forecast period between 2024 and 2030, BlueWeave expects the Global Fatty Alcohol Ethoxylates (FAE) Market size to expand at a CAGR of 5.4% reaching a value of USD 4.4 billion by 2030. The Global Fatty Alcohol Ethoxylates (FAE) Market is propelled by an increasing application in scouring, cleaning, emulsifying, and foaming across diverse sectors, including textiles, agriculture, personal care, household, and paper. The broadening usage significantly propels the market's upward trajectory, supported by the growing per capita income in developing nations, especially impacting the household and personal care sectors. The Global Fatty Alcohol Ethoxylates (FAE) Market further benefits from the steady expansion of the chemical processing and personal care industries, presenting investment opportunities. Other key drivers include a surging demand for eco-friendly surfactants, aligning with the preference for sustainable solutions, and the increasing need for household and personal care items. Ongoing trends involve research and development to optimize properties like reducing foam generation, expanding temperature stability, and exploring novel applications in pharmaceuticals and the oilfield sector. As a result, the dynamic landscape positions FAE as a versatile solution with a promising outlook for future growth.
Impact of Geopolitical Tensions on Global Fatty Alcohol Ethoxylates (FAE) Market
The Global Fatty Alcohol Ethoxylates (FAE) Market is impacted by geopolitical tensions in several ways. The market experiences a complex interplay of factors, where raw material costs, intricately tied to the availability and pricing of fatty alcohols, contribute to heightened volatility. This volatility is further intensified by fluctuations in crude oil prices, a crucial precursor for fatty alcohol production. The market's complexity is compounded by competitive strategies, technological innovations, regulatory frameworks, and sustainability trends. The global demand for eco-friendly and bio-based products, driven by sustainability priorities, also actively shapes pricing trends.
During the second quarter of 2023, North America witnessed a persistent decline in Fatty Alcohol Ethoxylates (FAE) prices due to weak demand from downstream industries, such as surfactants and detergents. This price downturn directly influenced manufacturing costs, leading to necessary adjustments in FAE prices within the US market. Simultaneously, the domestic market in China displayed mixed sentiments, marked by a slowdown in the manufacturing sector and reduced inquiries in downstream personal care industries. In response, Chinese manufacturers adapted by revising their pricing strategies. Despite global economic growth concerns, adjustments in prices were also influenced by increased output and favorable weather conditions in major palm oil-producing nations, Indonesia and Malaysia. This was particularly observed in China, a procuring nation facing an economic slowdown during the mid-June Dragon Boat Festival, which further dampened trade activities, including those related to FAEs. These intricate dynamics underscore the profound impact of geopolitical tensions on the Global FAE Market, with both North America and China navigating shifts in market dynamics.
