The Pig and the Dog
For a long time I’ve been interested in the zodiac. When I browsed the web for a combination of Gemini, my astrological sign, and Pig, my Chinese animal, the description of the pairing was on the money. Turns out I’m a great host with a vivacious interest in just about everything, and I get easily bored when I’m not intellectually challenged. I can have temper tantrums and tend to blurt my thoughts without considering the consequences of my words.
Struck by the accurate description of my attributes and drawbacks, I started entertaining friends with analysis of their Chinese and sun sign combinations. After debates between our Presidential candidates, I began to wonder about our two potential leaders. Here’s what I’ve found.
Hillary is a Scorpio who, like me, emerged from the womb in the Year of the Pig. In Animal Farm, George Orwell writes that “all pigs are created equal... but some are more equal than others.” So it is with Hill.
The Scorpio-born Pig knows what she wants and goes after it. She can be loud and boisterous, aggressive, dynamic and unapologetically ambitious. She works to impose her ideas so she can advance her own interests.
Every gesture of the Scorpio Pig, whether an invitation or a kindness, is motivated by self-interest. She cares about getting to the top, having lots of money and living in opulent surroundings. She’s a driver and a doer. Her fundraising parties are spectacular with a dash of egotism involved.
You’d have to be an egotist to run for President, wouldn’t you?
The Scorpio Pig’s indignation can get her into trouble. When Madame Secretary learns to tone down and relax a little, the public will be less reluctant to vote for her.
Although she is often quite jolly, the Scorpio-Pig can throw a spine-chilling tantrum. She hates to lose (and rarely does), and cuts an impressive figure in public.
Miss Piggy with the stinger is bossy and impatient, but she’s humane at heart. She wants to get things done and will be successful or die trying.
The most famous Scorpio Pig was Marie Antoinette, which does not bode well for the head of our gal Hillary.
The Donald, like me, is a Gemini but was born in the Year of the Dog, making him just a year older than his challenger. That marks him as curious and opinionated. A Gemini relishes conversation and likes to stick his nose in other people’s business. He is gossipy and most of the time he gets along with people. Although he may give tirelessly of his time to get what he wants, it is often at the expense of his own personal needs. Good thing Mr. Trump has paid handlers.
Most Dog Geminis have high morals and values. People born in Dog years like to take up causes and join crusades for the sake of their fellow human beings. But add in the lighthearted, talkative Gemini, and this Dog either will spend too much of himself on the woes of the world, or the superficial Gemini will cause him not to give a pig's whistle about others.
For Mr. Trump, it’s a crapshoot as to which sign will take the lead.
According to astrologer Suzanne White, our billionaire candidate can be funny as well as dramatic, like “a traveling circus coupled with a drive-in theater.” The Donald should have gone into the performing arts. Oh wait—wasn’t that what his TV show was about?
Famous Gemini Dogs include Judy Garland and Barry Manilow.
I don’t know if that helps in making a decision about whom to vote for this November. For the record, Barack Obama is a Leo born in the year of the Ox. The lion-ox is courageous and effective in his endeavors. He never flees conflict and plunges through fire to accomplish what he sets out to do.
We’re going to miss him more than we know.
But the task of electing a new leader looms before us. Judy Garland was married five times, battled drug and alcohol demons, and owed hundreds of thousands of dollars in back taxes. Barry Manilow is so excessively private that he won’t reveal even his dogs’ names. Marie Antoinette had extravagant tastes and a difficult marriage, and everything that was wrong with France was blamed on her. By the way, she never said about the starving peasants, “Let them eat cake.”
Whether the nation opts for a big-hearted Pig or a circus Dog as our next leader, you can bet her or his sting or bark may present challenges for the rest of us that even peasants and Ms Antoinette couldn’t have imagined. A few cake crumbs from either would be most welcome.
