Her presence: Deafening thunderclaps mark the pulsations of the blood as it gushes out of Chinnamasta’s angry wound. Just as the head is severed, Kali begins her dance, and the cosmos is born. With every spurt of blood, forms arise from the formless. Nourished by her lifeblood, they are sustained through the drama of time and space as separate beings and entities. Enticed by the amorous couple under her feet, creation forgets its source of sustenance. When Bhairavi counts the beads of her mala, Kali comes to a standstill and the blood stops spurting. The cosmos collapses into itself until time starts again. Creating forms from nothingness, Chinnamasta nourishes them with her own blood until she draws them in again.
