FEATURE: 5 Heartwarming Kawaii Anime You Can Zone Out To
Tumblr media
We’ve got you covered if you're feeling stressed! Sometimes binge-watching busy battle anime or even romantic comedies is too much for an exhausted brain to handle. Iyashikei (healing) anime should do the trick and ease the pressure. Let’s dive into the world of kawaii characters who do a bare minimum in their life — I promise you’ll be a different person after finishing these series.
  Bananya
Tumblr media
Nya. Nya? Nya! Silly tiny cats living inside bananas and exploring the world? SOLD. This anime is high on cuteness and fun, which is the ultimate combination to rest your mind after a busy day. Each episode has 3 minutes of Bananyas enjoying their life, just waking up to the rising sun and chilling with friends. Sometimes characters can be involved in kawaii romantic adventures that could melt your heart in an instant, but that’s not the main plot of the series. The story can be erratic and unpredictable but Bananya’s goal is always steady — he just wants to bathe in chocolate with all his banana cat friends. And what do they usually say about dreams? Yes, they do come true.
  Poyopoyo
Tumblr media
Have you ever wondered why big, fat, round cats are so cute? You are not alone. This chibi comedy with a spherical cat will cheer you up in an instant — no one can withstand such cuteness. The same goes for the Moe’s family who adopted the kitty. Most of the episodes focus on the family’s interaction with Poyo The Cat, but sometimes they almost seem like stand-alone stories about Japanese traditions. The primitive animation style gives a simple and calm narrative so you don’t really even need to follow the plot. Poyopoyo gives you laughter, drama, and adventures where this spherical orange cat always has the last word. And it’s always the right one.
  Anime KAPIBARASAN
Tumblr media
Cuteness overload in Anime Kapibarasan — the series featuring the popular BANDAI SPIRITS character. The project celebrated the 15th anniversary of this cute, squishy friend and provided lots of iyashikei moments for BANDIA fans. The series invites you to follow the daily life of Kapibarasan and his animal friends as they chill out among the Midorino Grasslands — eating grass, soaking in hot springs and doing nothing extreme. Short, humorous, slice of life sketches prove that the beauty of life can be found in the simple things — and it takes less than two minutes per episode to deliver such a powerful message.
   Chi's Sweet Home
Tumblr media
Cute animals do cute things, right? Except “mischievous” might be a better way to describe Chi, a mischievous little kitten who was adopted by the loving Yamada family. They even broke the no pets rule to bring Chi into their apartment! Chi’s curiosity doesn’t have limits, so she attracts trouble on a daily basis, which can be quite stressful for her owners. She is the epitome of a risky venture, but her thirst for adventure is mostly just adorable, leaving any cat lover instantly smitten. Despite Chi’s unlimited energy, she is also keen on doing simple kitten things — drinking milk, taking naps, and going for a walk in the park. Released in 2009 as an adaptation of the manga by Kanata Konamai, the anime’s art style lacks the novelty of a contemporary piece, but that only adds to its charm.
With a Dog AND a Cat Every Day is Fun
Tumblr media
The title pretty much tells you all you need to know about the plot — one dog plus one cat equals one heck of a relatable slice of life anime any pet owner can enjoy. Each pet has its own personality, of course. The dog is too excited to notice its owner won’t share any food from her plate and the cat is too independent to even notice the human in the first place. Check it out if you want a good time filled with fun and snuggles.
Let’s relax by watching all these kawaii anime on Crunchyroll!

Solangelo Headcanons
So I’ve got a lot of these cause I’m such a simp for Nico and Will (feel free to ask me about any other Headcanons on either character, cause I’ve got LOTS)
They’re both massive nerds, but neither of them really like the same kind of things
Like, Will is more of a Star Wars and Star Trek fan, he loves Harry Potter more than life itself, and reads medical textbooks and animal books for fun
But Nico is such a linguistics and mythology nerd, we all know he loves Pokémon and DND, and he’s really into classic literature and art
They both spend 90% of their dates geeking out over their interests, and even when they talk about something the other doesn’t understand, they’re super supportive and sweet cause they’re both cute geeks
As much as they aren’t interested in the same things for the most part, they do have a few interests in common (pirates, astronomy, Dreamworks and Disney animated movies, The Princess Bride, Lord of the Rings, music, marvel and DC)
They absolutely have movie marathon dates. It’s their favourite thing. Their favourite movie series’ are Pirates of the Caribbean, Night at the Museum, and The Lord of the Rings/ The Hobbit
Nico loves watching Star Wars with Will because Will mumbled the lines along with the characters and does little lightsaber noises along with it and he’s so cute
Will likes watching movie adaptions of classic lit with Nico because he points out everything that’s different from the books, why the movies are bad, and insists on pausing it to go on rants about everything they got wrong. Will fucking loves it
They both have tattoos. Will’s got the sun over his chest, and a small semi colon on his left wrist next to a treble clef. Nico’s got a semicolon on his right wrist next to a bass clef
Will loves Halloween, and Nico could take it or leave it (he never did anything for it because he grew up in Italy), but Nico does couples costumes because Will looks at him with puppy dog eyes and Nico’s helpless
They’ve gone as Jed and Octavian from Night at the Museum; Buzz Lightyear and Woody; those two crazy pirates from Pirates of the Caribbean (the one with the wooden eye who dressed up in drag, and the short one who got upset over parlay); 1930’s mobsters; Adam and Barbara Maitland from Beetlejuice; Han Solo and Luke Skywalker
They actually talk to Mr. D, and that’s why they’re his favourite— they play poker with him, they talk to him, they treat him like anyone else and he lives them for it
Will loves every single one of Nico’s siblings (Rachel, Hazel, Reyna, Meg, Jason, Connor, Travis, Percy, Tyson, Estelle, Chiara, Piper, etc). They share ridiculous Nico stories and plan pranks on him— they all adore Will
Will’s siblings and friends lowkey love Nico more than Will. He brings them McDonalds, teases Will and makes Will blush, attempts archery to try to bond with them (he really tries, but he’s just really awful), he tells Will’s little siblings bedtime stories. Nico’s just really awkward, and he really tries, and they all love him. Of course, Cecil, Lou Ellen, Austin, and Kayla bug Nico a lot because he’s so awkward, but the truth is they really, really, really like him
Will is horrible at music. Like, truly horrible at anything to do with music. But he has an encyclopedic knowledge of music from over the last 200 years, and randomly quotes lyrics and talks about musical theory all day long
In contrast, Nico is amazing at playing piano and guitar, plus he enjoys playing the drums. He’s really musically talented, but knows nothing about the theory behind it or about the artists. Whenever Nico tries to learn a new song, Will nerds out over the musician/background of the song/cool lyrical devices that make it an amazing song. Nico frickin loves it
Nico loves cooking, while Will can’t cook for his life. Like someone get this boy some help, he almost burnt down his mom’s house while microwaving popcorn. They agreed that Nico would cook and Nico would clean
Nico can’t drive for shit. I mean, cars don’t exist in the city where he grew up (there’s not enough room for vehicles on the few roads in Venice), and even if there were, he’s Italian and gay (sorry about the stereotypes there, but I really can’t see Nico being a good driver). Will drives them everywhere or gets Jules-Albert to drive them, and hides Nico’s drivers license to ‘protect the public from his menace of a boyfriend’
You know how I mentioned the no vehicles in Venice thing? Yeah, no bikes are in the city either. Will taught Nico to ride a bike after the Giants War (before they started dating). Hazel took videos and pictures cause Nico was freaking out over it and yelling at Will not to let him die
Will finds animals on the street and adopts them. Nico begrudgingly helps Will to take care of the animals until they find good homes for them (mostly from people in New Rome)
Unfortunately, Will gets attached to them, and now they have 5 cats, 2 dogs, 3 snakes, 4 lizards, and a blue Jay
They’re both really grumpy in the morning. If you wake either of them up, they will probably bite your hand off
They like going on runs a lot? They’ll go on jogs once a day if possible, and they’ll chat or share earbuds while doing so
They go on dates on canoe lake a lot. They like to have races on the canoes, and to just float out away from everyone else (they totally don’t joke about being pirates or pretend to be pirates while on the lake, that’d be ridiculous and childish)
When Will’s been in the infirmary for too long, Nico walks in and throws a Kit Kat at his head, and then drags him out of the infirmary (sometimes by his ear, sometimes by his hand, depending on how long Will’s been in there for or how annoyed Nico is that day)
Nico’s teaching Will how to speak Venetian (he sucks at it, but Nico appreciates the effort)
Nico takes a long time to get used to PDA, and even after they’ve been dating for years, Nico’s really only comfortable with holding hands and hugs (plus cheek kisses or quick pecks) in public. Will’s fine with it, and he didn’t stop smiling for three days after Nico first pecked him on the cheek in public
International dates! Paris, Venice, Milan, Madrid, Banff, Athens, Cairo, Tokyo, Sydney, Ho Chi Minh, everywhere! They love travelling!
They have a lot of conversations where they tell the other how amazing they are (since they’re both pretty self-deprecating, and they think the world of the other, it ends up with them just going ‘shut up you’re beautiful, why do you put up with me’ for hours on end)
Dates on roofs! Nico and Will point out constellations at night and cloud watch during the day. They have picnics on the roof of the Big House, and the Hades and Apollo cabins all the time
They buy each other Funko Pop figures for birthdays, Christmas, and basically anytime they want to get each other a gift

3, 8, 10, 16, 17 💕
3. What inspires you to keep creating fanworks?
I’m not going to lie, the cancellation really emptied my inspiration gumball machine… I love fic writing, and I love JATP and I love the fandom, but I can tell it’s going to be a struggle for a little while. HOWEVER what’s keeping me motivated to write and keep sharing my love for the show is my friends, everyone out there who loves the show as much as I do, who’s just as sad about the cancellation as I am. The thought of writing right now makes me sad. The thought of a future without JATP makes me even sadder. But… eventually, I’ll keep going, because of my friends 💜
8. Who are three fanwork creators (fic writers, gifmakers, artists, meta writers, etc.) that you love seeing on your dash?
Going to try to go outside the realm of fic writing for this… (also going to pick more than three again because fuck it, the JATP fandom is so talented)
MOODBOARDS - @flynn-taylor
GIFSETS - @luke-pattersons, @thereigning-lorelai
META POSTS - (also not going to lie to you I have no idea what “meta” means, but a lot of people post stuff about canon speculation and like expanding on stuff we saw in the show and so that’s the definition I’m going with… so people who have really cool takes on things that I always enjoy reading are: @latinposeidon, @thedeathdeelers, @missmitchieg… and anything that comes out of @futurearchaeologyprof’s brain is always so insightful and heart-wrenching, whether it’s an actual post or just a string of DM’s lol
FAN ART - omg there’s this one person who does CRAZY (/pos) fan art… @jeida-chi! Her paintings are incredible!
10. What’s a fanwork that made you cry?
I answered this here, but… hmm… let me see if I can think of another one. Our Life Is A Playlist (And You’re My Favorite Song) is an older fic, from the beginning of this year, and it wasn’t ALL sad, but some parts of it did make me cry! HONORABLE MENTION for this dream isn’t feeling sweet, because while it didn’t make me shed tears, it was super sad and super well-written!
16. Are there fanworks in [fandom] that you’ve revisited multiple times?
ride until I can’t no more… I live here. On this fic page on ao3. This fic is my godchild and I revisit it often 😂
maybe then i'll fade away / and not have to face the facts - this is another one of my favorite fics by my amazing friend @julies-butterflies. I was probably way more low-key about how much I loved this one (a.k.a. not screaming in her DMs about it on the daily, or sending her random lines from it as I read) but it is one of my favorite fics by her because it's so emotional and so personal.
I Never Really Feel A Thing by @malecacidd - I really loved this one because I love any sort of Luke angst, but this fic specifically hit home because it's so relatable. It's... so relatable lol. And every so often I revisit it and read it again and hope that Em added the other part to the series like they mentioned they might a while ago
17. What’s a favorite comment or tag you’ve gotten on your work?
I love comments that give feedback on my characterization. Comments that say that I got the right emotions across… comments that say people felt something from reading my fics. But all comments are my favorite comments 💜(I also appreciate the yelling ones, but honestly most people expect shit from me by now, so it doesn’t happen too often!)

Tumblr media
April l was apparently the month for me to revisit some children’s authors who are steeped in controversy at the moment. So here’s my hot (well, lukewarm) takes on issues that absolutely do not need a single other person talking about them. Also some actual good books that I read this month!
Tumblr media
Badger in the Basement
The Animal Ark books are a childhood classic — though I recently found out that apparently there’s a difference between American and British publications, and the American versions didn’t include a lot of actual COOL animals which is… bizarre. As a Canadian stuck in the middle of this, this nonsense drives me nuts. This one was about the main character, the daughter of pair of vets, trying to protect a local badger sett from men wanting to participate in badger digging and baiting. These books are always feel-good, and it was a nice single-day-read while I waited for a library book to come in.
Tumblr media
Chi’s Sweet Home
The cutest manga series about the misadventures of a little kitten, Chi, who has been adopted by a loving family. I’ve never bothered to read them in order, but apparently this time I stumbled across the last in the series -- whoops! Still, stood on it’s own pretty easily, and it was a fun read! Things get tense when the family realize that they may have found Chi’s original home… and may have to give up Chi forever.
Tumblr media
Earth Before Us: Dinosaur Empire!
This was an odd graphic novel, I feel like I’m not sure who the target audience was exactly. It was a nonfiction comic done in a Magic School Bus style, with the purpose of teaching current, up-to-date facts about the animals that lived in the Mesozoic Era. If you’re into dinosaurs, you’ll probably enjoy this! The art is absolutely adorable, I love the dinosaur illustrations, and I learnt some really neat facts. That being said, the pages are really dense, and there’s a lot of info crammed in… some of it will probably go way over a child’s head without specific additional teaching or a very strong personal interest. But that being said, a dinosaur obsessed kid is still probably going to really dig this… as would a dinosaur obsessed adult. It wasn’t my cup of tea exactly but I’m sure it is someone’s.
Tumblr media
assorted Dr Seuss Books
I love these types of controversies because it means getting to listen to every moron who has never had an opinion on Dr Seuss ever start generating a mile of them out of the aether. So many people are so mad about the six books that are getting retired and I bet most of them haven’t even read them. These are not the friggin Cat In The Hat or The Lorax or even the likes of Yertle The Turtle. I was raised by a grade one teacher, was a voracious reader who loved Dr Seuss, and wrote my university thesis on children’s literature, and I still only knew two of the six books on that list. So by all means, if you want to write an essay explaining why those specific books are worth clinging to, feel free, but if you haven’t even heard of them maybe it’s not a big deal. *grumble*
Anyway, my grousing aside, it gave me the urge to reread a bunch of Seuss books, including the two retiring books I personally knew: McElligot’s Pool and To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street. I do still enjoy both, especially McElligot’s Pool which always sparked my imagination, but it’s obvious why they’re being retired and I personally think it’s the right choice. There’s so much good kidlit out there, we can survive without these.
Tumblr media
Goodbye, My Rose Garden
A f/f romance manga, fairly standard fair though cute if you’re looking for some historical angst, pretty dresses, and mutual pining. A young Japanese woman moves to England in the hopes of meeting a writer (Mr Frank) who she has long admired. Along the way she is employed by an enigmatic woman with plenty of money, rumours, and melancholy following her. I’ll be honest, uncut romance isn’t really my genre, but I’ll probably still try to the second book to see if the story picks up.
Tumblr media
From The Holocaust to Hogan’s Heroes: The Autobiography of Robert Clary
It’s no secret that I’ve been on a Hogan’s Heroes kick. This is the autobiography of Roberty Clary, who plays my favourite character in the show, Louis Lebeau. And holy shit what a life this man has had. He was a Jew growing up in France before the start of the war, and who was one of many children taken away from his family and sent off to the concentration camps in Germany. This was an amazing, intense, inspiring, and heartbreaking read… it has Clary’s voice all over it, and it tells everything from the charming childhood he had, to the horrors of the concentration camps, the brutality of survival, and then about his exciting journey into the entertainment industry afterwards. It’s an experience, would recommend if you’re a fan of the show.
Tumblr media
The Ickabog
The second controversial author I read this month. Originally I was going to give Rowling’s new book a miss, given everything that’s been going on over the past few years, but in the end my curiosity got the better of me. Politics aside, it was a fun read! Not groundbreaking, but enjoyable enough and written in an interesting style. It didn’t read the same as a lot of modern kidlit, it felt more like a cross between a classic fairytale and a Dahl book. Perhaps a bit like Despereaux. It tells the tale of how an idyllic country gradually falls into ruin through the ignorance, inaction, and greed, and how a supposedly fictional monster hides the very real, human monsters at the heart of the country. It was cute and pleasant and I’m glad I decided to get it from the library, though for anyone who is choosing not to engage for political reasons: you aren’t missing anything major.
Tumblr media
Franklin In The Dark
A Canadian classic. I don’t think there’s a single person my age who hasn’t read or been read a pile of these books, and the nostalgia is so comforting. I found this on Youtube and listened to someone read it to me, and honestly 10/10 would recommend for a calm evening.
The big reason I decided to seek this one out though, was because I finally got to the M*A*S*H episode that inspired this entire series! In the episode C*A*V*E, in which Hawkeye is freaking out over his claustrophia while the camp is forced to take shelter in a nearby cave during some intense shelling, he mentions that if he had been born a turtle he would have been afraid of his own shell, and that the other turtles would make fun of him cause he’d be forced to walk around in his underwear. And so this first story about a young turtle who’s afraid to sleep in his own shell and drags it around behind him. So if you were ever curious, Franklin the Turtle is in fact named after Dr Benjamin Franklin Pierce. (this is also why the French version is named Benjamin!)
Tumblr media
Wolves of the Beyond: Lone Wolf
I loved the Guardians of Ga’Hoole books as a kid but I never read the Wolves of the Beyond series. This first book was an interesting read, Lasky does a great job creating worlds and societies for the animals that inhabit them. Lone Wolf is about a deformed wolf cub who was abandoned in the wilderness to die. And he would have, if a desperate mother bear, who had recently had her only cub killed, hadn’t stumbled across him and saved him, vowing to raise him as her own...
Tumblr media
Petals
A “silent” graphic novel. It has beautiful artwork and is told entirely through pictures, no text at all. It’s loves and heart-wrenching, though it left me feeling somewhat unsatisfied… I felt like there should have been more. Still, a neat story.
Tumblr media
The Southern Book Club‘s Guide To Slaying Vampires
What a banger of a novel!! I can’t recommend this one enough. It’s about a group of suburban mothers in the ‘80s who form a book club out of a shared need for community and a love of grisly true crime novels. But when a strange drifter appears in town and starts setting down roots… and when children begin disappearing… these women need to band together to confront the horrors that have invaded their neighbourhood, and face down not only a terrifying monster among them but the patriarchal system that allows it to flourish. To quote the preface:
“Because vampires are the original serial killers, stripped of everything that makes us human — they have no friends, no family, no roots, no children. All they have is hunger. They eat and eat but they’re never full. With this book, I wanted to pit a man freed from all responsibilities but his appetites against women whose lives are shaped by their endless responsibilities. I wanted to pit Dracula against my mom.    As you’ll see, it’s not a fair fight.“
Tumblr media
The Weirn Books: Be Wary of the Silent Woods
I love Chmakova’s graphic novels, though I’ve only ever read her slice-of-life middle grade series before. This one is pure fantasy and very fun. It’s about two cousin “weirns” — witches with demon familiars — who attend the local night school. Things get strange though when an ominous figure appears outside the old, abandoned school house deep in the Silent Woods, and begins tempting children down its path…
I’m very much looking forward to word of a second book and was honestly kind of surprised that I haven’t heard more about this book given how popular her other series is. This has all the same charm and quirks but for those of us who prefer stories based in fantasy rather than reality.
And A Bonus...
For some masochistic reason I got a Garfield book out of the library. Jeez, if I didn’t love these as a kid, I found them absolutely laugh out loud hilarious, and now I just don’t see it anymore. But here I will share the one strip in the book that actually made me laugh

i'm gonna be brave and not send this anonymously and also sorry in advance because this is VERY long 😅
hiiiii!!! i just got through (i'm pretty sure) the ENTIRE lovechild au tag and oh my g o s h do i LOVE IT. i rarely like abo aus but this????? amazing!!!
your character design is BRILLIANT and i absolutely a d o r e your art style, it's so freaking pretty!!!! everyone's BEAUTIFUL. also, i just can't get over just how freaking beautiful you draw girls???? like, the way you draw boys is great too, they're so, so, so, SO pretty, but the GIRLS, I- wow. just wow.
i especially noticed that when i got to your drawing of Eri, she's MARVELOUS. SO PRETTY!!!! Yukari is absolutely beautiful too. i also really like how you draw Shouto and Eijirou.
i've already mentioned character design and before i meant it visually, but like, personality-wise, your character design is great too! i love how you portray the original bnha characters and the kids you've created are excellent! none of the personalities seem repetitive or forced or something and the portrayal is very good in my opinion.
Ochako as a mother is hilarious lol. some of those little comics with her and Tenma, and Tenya too, made me laugh really hard, haha.
Kyou and Yu are PRECIOUS.
there's something i'm really curious about though, but you can completely ignore this next bit if you want to, i'm just throwing out an idea lol. in that one post with Toshi there's a boy in Chihiro's class who can see ghosts thanks to his quirk. i wonder what would happen if you continued with that and it somehow became known to the tododeku fam that he can see Toshi? like, idk, one day tododeku pick up Chihiro at school and, as they're standing together getting ready to leave, the boy, as kids are wont to do sometimes, just asks why there's a ghost of an older boy hanging out around her so much or something??? i don't think you've said that that's canon in your au, but, like i said, i'm curious. and also, idk, i imagine that would come out pretty angsty.
(idk, i just need more Toshi content, i know he technically doesn't even exist, but i LOVE him)
also, whenever i look at your art of Toshi, i kinda get a Dabi-esque vibe from him, mainly mannerism-wise??? like, the coat you draw him in so often or the poses, they just really remind me of Touya????
speaking of Dabi, Homura is a sweetie. i love her design.
that thing with the morning glories is so sweet and heartbreaking once you know their meaning, oh my gosh.
and one last thing!! what is up with Takami Kaguya??? as far as i'm aware you've only drawn her once so far, i think. i love her design and i know she was apparently never born, but i'm so curious about her! will we ever see anything of the backstory behind her?
so yeah, i am a BIG fan of both your artstyle and this au now. have a nice day!
//breaths hold on im overwhelmed first of all i didnt know tumblr ask can have this many characters now holy shit ive been on here for too long
secondly THANK YOU IM GLAD YOU LIKE IT EYYYYYYY AND THANKS SO MUCH/w/
i need to redraw eri tho at least give her a new design WITH A SCARF LIKE HER DADDY//SHOT
I drew toshi in a coat one time but tbh yeah he kinda was influenced by touya from fics it stuck and it just fit lol
regarding the ghost boy (lol) yes he’s not canon, and shouto and deku doesn’t really pick them up from elementary school, cause, well, gotta keep the girls’ identity hush hush. BUT, however, YU does go home with her sometimes if she doesn’t have afternoon classes/chi doesn’t go play with her friends
imagine the kid, asking the big sister, “hey your sister’s being haunted by some guy” and she just
“oh yeah that’s our brother”
won’t that be fucked up//SHOT
meanwhile kaguya is from an au where hawks is an omega and he and dabi has a kid and also kept homura lol. she was a joke that went to far like everything i ever did in my life//SHOT
YOU TOO HAVE A NICE DAY

Note
Can you recommend some books like those by Donna Tartt, like The Secret History and The Golden Finch, Sylvia Plath, or Ayn Rand? I’ve been really getting into reading again, and I’m enjoying it a lot, especially since I don’t watch a ton of television. Also, what kind of books do you think Violet Harmon from AHS would read? I know she reads The Stranger by Albert Crumus(?) and a manga called Nana. Are there any mangas that are just about a person going through life and stuff, not fantasy or action or horror? Thank you so much 🖤
If you liked The Goldfinch, try Warlight by Michael Ondaatje, Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel, Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng, The Art of Hearing Heartbreaks by Jan-Philipp Sendker, A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara, The Blind Assassin by Margret Atwood, Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff, Doger by Terry Prachett, Search of the Moon King’s Daughter by Linda Holeman, Metropolis by Elizabeth Gaffney, Water Street by Patricia Reilly Giff, and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer.  I would also check out Donna Tartt’s other work.
For books like The Secret History, check out Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pesshl, If We Were Villains by ML Rio, Black Chalk by Christopher Yates, Long Black Veil by Jennifer Finney Boylan, Confessions by Kanae Minato, The Lake of Dead Languages by Carol Goodman, The Go Between by LP Hartley, The Bellwether Revivals, The Magic Circle by Jenny Davidson, The Likeness by Tana French, The Shadow Year by Hannah Richell, and The Year of the Gadfly by Jennifer Mather.
For authors similar to Sylvia Plath, you might want to try Anne Sexton, Virginia Woolf, and Emily Dickinson.  For ones similar to Ayn Rand, try Barbara and Nathaniel Brandon and Leonard Peikoff (for more objectivist philosophy), Robert E Heinlein, Richard Bach and Robert M Pirsig (in terms of style).
I haven’t seen AHS so I don’t have a good sense of her character, but one of her fan blogs suggested that she’d like Stephen King.  If she likes Nana, she might also like Mars by Fuyumi Souryo, Cat Street by Yoko Kamio, Lovenista by Kayono, Koizora by Mika and Ibuki Haneda, Tomodachi no Hanashi by Kazune Kawahara and Aiji Yamakawa, and Kids on the Slope by Yuki Kodama.
Finally, the type of manga you’re looking for is called Slice of Life (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slice_of_life).  It’s a really popular manga genre.  Maybe try Silver Spoon by Hiromu Arakawa, Genshiken by Shimoku Kio, Barakamon by Satsuki Yoshino, Saint Young Men by Hikaru Nakamura (this one is about Buddha and Jesus living as roommates in Tokyo. It’s a lot of fun), Sweetness and Lightning by Gido Amagakure, Horimiya by Hero and Daisuke Hagiwara, Yotsuba& by Kiyohiko Azuma, Chi’s Sweet Home by Kanata Konami, and Mushishi by Yuki Urushibara.
Sorry for the long post. That should keep you reading for the next few years 😂.

Top Albums of 2020
I was tagged by the amazing @joonni to list my top nine twelve albums of 2020! This was honestly so hard, but so fun. I love any tags to do with music xD (Your music taste was amazing btw! Sorry I went a little crazy and did a few extra lol.) Thanks lovie 💓
I went with the albums that I loved as whole (aka I loved most, if not all, of the songs) and listened to the most this year. Some choices have deeper meanings, while others were just flat-out enjoyable. I also stuck with albums that came out this year only, but I wasn’t sure if that was inherently part of the challenge. I wasn’t too picky on the criteria, just went with the ones that made up the score for my 2020. All albums have Spotify links incase something catches your eye! (Apologies for my extra-ness; I added recommendations from each album and a brief...ish explanation as to why it made the list.)
Also, they’re in no particular order, because this was difficult enough...
Tumblr media
Map of the Soul: 7 by BTS
Explanation — This album was my first comeback as part of the BTS Army. There are so many tracks that I adore, and I honestly can’t remember the last time I was so excited for music. It breathed life into my Spotify, it was the album I listened to the most this year, and Black Swan was my most listened song. The differing music genres that they played with, all the way from orchestral to trap to hip hop and synth pop, left me more and more excited as the songs progressed. If there was a #1 on this list, it would be MOTS:7.
Highlights — Interlude: Shadow, Black Swan, ON, We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal
Zero: Fever Part.1 by Ateez
Explanation — This was the soundtrack to my summer. I hadn’t heard much from Ateez, but what I had heard, I wasn’t a huge fan of? Maybe I hadn’t been grabbed yet, but oh boy. Zero: Fever definitely did that. Every track is such high energy and memorable, so it was so hard to pick favorites! I’ll always think back on this one for summer, and will be transported back to plenty of sunset commutes.
Highlights — Fever, Thanxx, One Day At A Time
The Dream Chapter: Eternity by Tomorrow x Together
Explanation — Until this mini album, I had only listened to TXT in passing. I liked their stuff, but I feel like this is where they really found their stride. TDC:E caught me totally off-guard, in the best way possible. To me at least, this one is a work of art. Each of the six tracks is so entrancing, and so different from each other while still working together as a cohesive story. And don’t even get me started on the MVs! This is an album that I listen to for feels and fun, which to me, TXT are just brilliant at.
Highlights — Fairy of Shampoo, Maze in the Mirror, Eternally
Dystopia: The Tree of Language by Dreamcatcher
Explanation — It took me forever to find a girl group that I could really stan, like hardcore. This comeback for Dreamcatcher was when I realized they were it for me. This album in particular is so diverse. Their voices are both haunting and beautiful, and the way they interweave rock/alternative elements into their music has always turned my ear. They are so different from so many other girl groups out there, from the sound to their stage presence to their aesthetic. I will never stop talking about them, and this album really shows the best of their work thus far.
Highlights — Red Sun, Sahara, Paradise
BE by BTS
Explanation — How could BE not be on this list? What a perfect end to a shitty year. There’s something so comforting yet uplifting about this one, and I will happily admit I cried when I first heard Blue & Grey. Who am I kidding, I still do. There’s only one other artist I have listed on here with two albums, so BTS is in good company. What more is there to say other than BE was the warm hug we all needed.
Highlights — Life Goes On, Blue & Grey, Dis-ease, Stay
Heng:garae by Seventeen
Explanation — This is another group that I hadn’t listened to much before this album. I was so surprised and excited. Every song that passed, I found myself smiling more. Their voices are astoundingly beautiful, and the songs are sickeningly catchy. Another album that I go to just to have fun. It’s one of my favorites to just put on when a day is good, but doesn’t Seventeen make it a little better regardless?
Highlights — Fearless, Kidult, I Wish, Together
The Untamed by various
Explanation — If you’ve seen the Chinese drama The Untamed, then you know exactly why this is on there. This album is a collection of songs that are themes for the characters in the show, most of which are sung by the actors themselves. Let me tell you; I don’t know a lick of Mandarin, but these are some of the most stunning songs I’ve ever heard. It’s one of the things that drew me to the drama to begin with; everything, including the music, is breathtaking. The classical Chinese sound plays so well with the character’s stories and singer’s vocals. They tell stories all on their own and give the drama so much depth. Even if you’re not a fan of the show or webtoon it’s based on, give this one a listen. You won’t be disappointed!
Highlights — [Wen Qing] woodland, [Wen Ning] Chi Ni, [Lan Xichen] Bu You, [Jiang Yanli & Jin Zixuan] Yong Ge, [Interlude] Yi Nan Ping, [Nie Minghao & Nie Huaisang] Qing He Ju
Humanity (Chapters I & II) by Thomas Bergersen
Explanation — If you know anything about me, you know how important orchestral music is to me. It’s been a huge part of my music journey ever since I was in middle school. Thomas Bergersen has been my favorite composer for years; the way he integrates the classical with the modern is just...there are no words. These two albums cannot be listed separately; they’re part of a seven-part project titled Humanity. Chapters I & II came out in 2020, and honestly, I have no words. The way he tells a story through almost entirely lyric-less work is just immaculate. I’ve never felt more powerful, emotional, or inspired than when listening to these two. I cried when I first heard Your Imagination and Materialize. No matter how I am feeling, whether I need inspiration or hope or just some peace of mind, I go here. I’ve never felt more healed than when listening to his work. If you take a chance to listen to anything on this list, PLEASE. Give these a try.
Highlights — We Are One, Wings, Humanity, Your Imagination, Materialize, Innocence, The Stars Are Coming Home
Brightest Blue by Ellie Goulding
Explanation — I don’t listen to a ton of western music that isn’t orchestral or lofi, but I used to adore Ellie Goulding. Halcyon was my entire teen-hood. When I saw she came out with a new album this year, I gave it a listen for sentimentality reasons. And boy, I still love her. Her voice is both angelic and haunting, and her sound is so unique. The messages given in these songs are powerful, potent, a tad bit bittersweet, and especially valid for young women navigating adult life. Also the instrumentals backing her vocals are often big and grand and symphonic, filled with piano and violin. That’s enough to get me to listen. And to top it all off, the collabs she has on this album are so fitting for each track, it’s absolutely beautiful.
Highlights — Start, Cyan, Ode To Myself, Woman, Flux, Overture, Slow Grenade, Hate Me
Beneath Your Waves by Sleepy Fish
Explanation — If there’s one kind of music that shuts off the little anxiety bug in my brain and gets me to work, one that isn’t as intense as orchestral music and that doesn’t put me into sensory overload like orchestral sometimes does, it’s lofi. And Sleepy Fish does it so freakin’ well. This album that came out this year is one of my most often repeated over and over. When I’m struggling with sensory issues at work, I put this one repeat and my mind just...goes...quiet. It’s like medicine. And the tunes are so catchy and sweet. I’m instantly transported to someplace magical, some seaside city straight out of a Ghibli film, and far away from the things that are troubling me. Then I can finally get some work done, get to sleep, or just quiet my mind. If you struggle with sensory issues or anxiety like I do, give this album a shot. Also, the album titled My Room Becomes The Sea from 2019 is excellent.
Highlights — Velocities, Sunbreak, Swimming, Nights Like These, Winter Winter
WOOPS! by Woodz
Explanation — Another mini album that is just a blast to listen to, but it also has such a soft side that hits me in the feels. I don’t see a lot of people talking about Woodz, but you all should give him a listen. He’s so talented, and his voice on this one is just *chef’s kiss* everything. The mixing is also impeccable and pairs so well with his vocals.
Highlights — Bump Bump, On my own, Sweater, Tide
D-2 by Agust D
Explanation — I mean, we all knew this one was gonna be dope. Yoongi did not disappoint. This mixtape is so different from most of the stuff I listen to, but I absolutely adored it. The truth and rhythm and pure talent in each and every verse stuns me still. I find myself especially drawn to this one when I’m frustrated (not exclusively, but often, ‘cause 2020.) Both his truth and sound give me a safe place to feel that frustration and anxiety and vent/work through it. I don’t know what it is about Yoongi, but to me, all of his work is like a comforting friend going, “Hey, you’re totally valid and okay for feeling this way...but it sucks, doesn’t it?”
Highlights — Daechwita, People, Dear my friend
Now, I’ll tag these lovely people! Only if you wanna :)

Dragon Ball Z 125
Tumblr media
All that is gold does not glitter,
Tumblr media
Not all those who wander are lost;
Tumblr media
The old that is strong does not wither,
Tumblr media
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
Tumblr media
From the ashes, a fire shall be woken,
Tumblr media
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Tumblr media
Renewed shall be the blade that was broken,
Tumblr media
The crownless again shall be king.
Tumblr media
Every great saga has a beginning, and this one starts with a simple boar.
Tumblr media
Did our porcine friend realize what his actions would bring forth on this day?    Did he know that the Driver’s Ed episode of Dragon Ball Z would be born from his decision to chase after a woman walking home from the Mt. Paozu IGA?    Maybe, but I’m more inclined to think that he just wanted some of the potato wedges Chi-Chi picked up from the deli.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Goku’s training for the androids.   Well, not at this exact second.    Right now, he’s watching clouds sexually harass other clouds.   Cloud Master Roshi belongs in Cloud Jail.
Tumblr media
As Chi-Chi hoofs it back home after narrowly escaping the boar, she sees the couple from the other mountain driving home in their car.
Tumblr media
When Chi-Chi gets home she’s greeted by her husband and son, who toss their filthy training gear in front of her and head for the tub.
Tumblr media
And that tears it.   She bawls out Goku for not driving her to the store like other husbands, and when he says he doesn’t have a license she tells him to go get one.  Oh, and he can take Piccolo with him, since his useless green ass doesn’t have one either, smh.
Tumblr media
Oh, and if they fail, she won’t cook for them.     I’m not sure why that should matter to Piccolo, since he only drinks water, but maybe Chi-Chi makes some really tasty water.
Tumblr media
So the next day the boys go to the “institute” to take driver’s ed.   Piccolo doesn’t know how he got roped into this, but he doesn’t seem too interested in backing out, either.
What makes this episode a classic is that they’re both wearng civlian clothing for this aventure.   Goku is dresed in what I like to call “Stealth Fred Flintstone Cosplay.”     Piccolo, of course, is dressed  in blue jeans and two shirts.  One is purple with long sleeves, and one is yellow with the words “POST BOY” written on them.
Tumblr media
In the dub, Goku asks him where he got such a ridiculous outfit, and Piccolo replies “Your wife got them for me... out of your closet.”   That’s not in the Japanese version.     Really, it doesn’t make a lot of sense for Goku to own this outfit, since Piccolo’s at least 18 inches taller than him.    Then again, Piccolo has Clothes Beam powers, which could also be used to alter clothing to fit other sizes.
Tumblr media
Besides, we know he got the hat from Goku, since it has the word “GOKUU” written on it.  I think it’s safe to assume that the POST BOY outfit is definitely something Goku owns.
Tumblr media
Here come the instructors.   They have Capsule Corp. logos on their coats, so I assume this means this whole institute is run by Capsule Corp.
Tumblr media
Somewhere in this episode, the old guy says he’s been teaching driver’s ed for 70 years, which puts him somewhere over 90.   Personally, I headcanon him as gettng into the driver’s ed game much later in life.   His wife divorced him at 53, and he struggled to find new purpose after that, until he got a taste of the driving school life, and he knew he would never be the same.    Oh, he tried to get out of this world.   But it kept calling him back like a siren song.    The fame, the money, the women.    He just couldn’t stay away.   And by 55, he became a full-time instructor.   Now he’s 125 years old.
Tumblr media
I don’t know anything about this lady, except that I’m pretty sure she wants to fuck Piccolo in the backseat of a car while it speeds along a highway at 100 miles per hour.    I guess Piccolo could use the Multi-Form technique to steer while he does his business in the back, but she doesn’t know that.
Tumblr media
Piccolo-- excuse me... I mean Post Boy, has some dificulty with the seat belt.
Tumblr media
Did you think I was kidding about this lady?    Because I’m not.  Back seat.  100 miles per hour.    No one at the wheel.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, this car doesn’t have a back seat, so she just floors it and drives really, really aggressively.
Tumblr media
EVEN POST BOY IS AFRAID
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the old man can’t even get the door open.     I like how the hair on his head turns red, but his mustache and eyebrows don’t.
Tumblr media
Goku starts dissociating in the parking lot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the Brief family is still amazed by Vegeta’s insane training regimen.   I feel like these scenes are really trying to pressure Bulma into getting it on with the guy.    “Boy, those Saiyans sure do have tough bodies, eh, Bulma?    Such wonderfully tough bodies.   Oh, and he’s living in the spaceship now.    That’s how dedicated he is.    You know, that spaceship would be a great place to have sex in, just throwing that out there.    You could scream as loud as you wanted and your parents would never be able to hear it.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, here’s Vegeta doing some pointless bullshit that isn’t driver’s ed.  Let’s move on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I guess Gohan’s studying while the boys are learning to drive.    Of course, he can’t concentrate knowing that Piccolo’s running around in the Post Boy outfit.    Check out this sweet fan art Gohan drew for this episode.
Tumblr media
Then Icarus shows up and Gohan decides to sneak out of the house to watch his dad and Piccolo driving.    I thought Episode 118 was Icarus’ last appearance, but I guess not.    Pretty sure this is it, though.
Tumblr media
See, I told you this guy has been in the business for 70 years.     What’s got him flustered is that Goku can’t seem to remember anything he tells him.    I mean things like “Push the pedals to make it go,” and “Welcome to driving school.”
Tumblr media
What’s with this guy’s neck?
Tumblr media
I think he was trying to get Goku to back into a parking place, but he ended up zooming forward instead.
Tumblr media
Then they end up on the highway, and inside a tunnel going down the wrong lane.   Now, in the dub, the guy tells Goku to “give him the wheel” I think.  So Goku chops it off so he can give it to him.    In the original script, he keeps saying “Cut in the steering handle”, which seems like an odd choice of words.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The end result is the same: Goku’s car flies out of control and lands in a body of water.    The instructor tells him it’ll take him three years to pass the course, and Goku protests that he can’t wait that long, on account of the androids.
Tumblr media
Later on, Goku seems to have gotten the hand of shifting the gear, but he still doesn’t grasp going slowly.    Post Boy sees him zip past and thinks it’s a race.
Tumblr media
Nearby, Gohan and Icarus show up in time to see this unfold.
Tumblr media
The lady seems genuinely impressed by Post Boy’s off-road driving stunts.   The tragic thing about this story is that Post Boy seems to have mastered this skill, but he never gets credit for it in the form of a license.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, one thing leads to another and now Goku and Post Boy are wanted for manslaughter.    Just kidding, the instructors are fine.
Tumblr media
Later, they have to drive around on public roads, and if they screw around again, they’ll get expelled.
Tumblr media
To their credit, both of them seem to be doing a lot better this time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Goku waves at a bus full of school kids, but the old man deducts a point for taking his hand off the wheel.   When Goku protests, he takes another point off for taking his eyes off the road.
Tumblr media
Then Goku slams on the brakes, causing Piccolo to rear-end him.    Everyone’s confused, but the reason he did it is because...
Tumblr media
The bus ahead of him got caught in... uh, an avalanche?    Of water?
Tumblr media
It’s going to fall off the road and over a cliff, is the point.
Tumblr media
Goku flies through the windshield of his car to help...
Tumblr media
... while Post Boy elbows the door off of his car.    With authority!
Tumblr media
They catch the bus, then Goku heads over to shoot falling debris so it won’t hit anything.
Tumblr media
Post Boy helps too.   So, a second ago, both of them needed to hold the bus, and now Post Boy is holding it one-handed.    Why did Goku even leave the bus if Post Boy could hold it and shoot up at the same time?    This episode proves that power levels are bullshit.
Tumblr media
The instructors are astonished.
Tumblr media
Goku waves goodbye to the kids while Post Boy stands with his back turned, all stoic-like.   A watchful protector.   A silent guardian.   A Post Boy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Goku apologizes for the disturbance, but the instructors are all smiles.   Goku asks if they can resume their practice, but the old man refuses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As he puts it, Goku and Post Boy are such skilled men that there’s no point in them learning from a driving school.    They hardly need licenses when they can fly, right?
Now, in the dub, they kind of take a different approach with the punchline.  The instructor praises their rescue of the bus, and their amazing powers, but he makes it clear that these two knuckleheads have no business behind the wheel of a car, so they’ll never get their licenses, ever.    But so what, right?  They can fly, so what difference does it make?
Either way.... I bet Chi-Chi won’t like this...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, I called it.
Tumblr media
Why is Icarus in the house?
Tumblr media
Sometimes, you have to have your heroes lose.    It builds character, and it makes them feel more like people.    It also makes it even more inspirational when they triumph.    That is the lesson of this episode.    Yes, Post Boy failed today, but he’s not going to dwell on his failures.   He’s going to pick himself back up and keep living his life.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Chi-Chi passes out from the shock of it.    No, seriously, why is Icarus allowed in the house but Post Boy isn’t?
Tumblr media
Anyway, from here, we flash forward three years and.... holy crap, I never noticed before, but they have a car in this shot!    A few dozen episodes after this, we’ll see Goku driving, and Chi-Chi explaining how he got his license, but I never noticed that this very episode made it clear that Goku went back and tried again.   That’s awesome.
Tumblr media
It’s the morning of May 12, and it’s time for the fateful Android invasion.   Chi-Chi offers the boys a box lunch for the day, but Goku declines.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No, Goku’s taking an early lunch today, around 10am.    His meal: a couple of no-good androids.    Big, marshmallow-y androids.
Tumblr media
This is it.   The waiting is over, the future is now.   The Z-Fighters will either change history or they will become history.    Z stands for the end, but not yet.

OC Interview Meme
I was tagged a while ago by @starsandskies
I’ll tag @naromoreau and anyone who wants to do this.
I’ve done this already for Kira Ryder.
Tumblr media
1. What’s your name?
Adam James Shepard
2. Do you know why you are named that?
Adam was actually the only name my parents agreed on when they were naming me.  James is my father’s name and it’s kind of a family tradition to give the first-born son the middle name that’s the same as his father’s first name.
3. Are you single or taken?
Taken.
4. Have any abilities or powers?
I have extensive knowledge of every weapon in the Alliance.  That includes grenades.  I’m trained in marine hand-to-hand and Sambo, and have a natural ability to lead and maintain morale.
5. Stop being a Mary Sue.
ಠ_ಠ Seriously?
6. What’s your eye color?
Blue
7. How about your hair color?
Dark Brown.
8. Have any family members?
Yes.  There’s my late father James, my mother Hannah, and my twin sister Amy.  I also have extended family on my Dad’s side who live on one of the first established human colonies.
9. Oh? How about any pets?
I have a space hamster, but I haven’t named him yet.
10. That’s cool, I guess. Now tell me something you don’t like.
Well... I’d say politics, but that’s a cliche answer.
If anything ...I’m not really a fan of bugs.  Just... yeah... I hate bugs.  And spiders.  Keep them far, far away from me unless I have a blowtorch on hand.
11. Do you have any activities/hobbies that you like to do?
I like practicing martial arts, and I’m currently learning Tai Chi as a way to help me relax.  I enjoy watching movies, listening to old music, hiking, and I can play a mean game of Skyllian Five.
12. Have you hurt anyone in any way before?
Only when I don’t have a choice.
13. Ever… killed anyone before?
Unfortunately...
14. What kind of animal are you?
ಠ_ಠ  The kind that defends the innocent from criminals and slavers.
15. Name your worst habits?
People say I tend to take on more than I should.  I suppose they’re right, but who else is going to get the job done?  Certainly not politicians.
16. Do you look up to anyone at all?
Two people; my Dad, and Anderson.
17. Are you gay, straight or bisexual?
Straight.
18. Do you go to school?
I used to.  I went to high school in Benning during the time my Dad was posted at an station that orbited around the planet.  I took some courses in psychology at the start of my military career, but I never completed it.  I graduated as an N7 at ICT, but that was years ago.
19. Ever want to marry and have any kids one day?
Sure, why not?
20. Do you have any fangirls/fanboys?
*Tries not to think about Conrad Verner*  Maybe...
21. What are you most afraid of?
Honestly, I’d rather not discuss it, especially if this interview is going public.
22. What do you usually wear?
When I’m not in uniform, I really like to wear something comfortable, like a t-shirt and jeans.  Sometimes, I’ll throw on a leather jacket on cooler days.
23. What one food tempts you?
Anything that’s not an MRE, freeze dried, or lab-grown.  Real meat and fresh fruits and veggies are considered a luxury in my line of work.
24. Am I annoying you?
...Maybe.
25. Well, it’s still not over!
Yaaay...
26. What class are you (low/middle/high)?
Middle, I guess?  They don’t really have that in the military.
27. How many friends do you have?
Enough to cause a riot in a 2-block radius... -especially if this interview doesn’t wrap up soon...-
28. What are your thoughts on pie?
As long as it’s fresh, I’m down for it.
29. Favorite drink?
I like the occasional good quality whiskey.  Also coffee.
30. What’s your favorite place?
I spent a long time trying to look for that one planet I could call home after so many years of living in spaceships.  Earth is where I was born, but it’s too crowded these days.  I enjoy Elysium and have an apartment there, but there are... certain reminders that don’t keep me ground-side for long..
I never expected to call Rannoch home.  I know it’s a dextro planet, but the moment I took my first step on that world, I knew this was where I wanted to be, as long as the quarians welcome me, of course.  It has everything I like - year-round warm weather, dry climate, amazing beaches and landscape... And no bugs!
Being there with my girl, on her homeworld, is also a nice bonus. :)
31. Are you interested in anyone?
Yes, I am.
32. That was a stupid question…
ಠ_ಠ
33. Would you rather swim in the lake or the ocean?
Doesn’t matter to me... -I’d swim anywhere as long as it’s AWAY from this interview!-
34. What’s your type?
Someone who is sweet, selfless, and brave. -And who doesn’t make me stay at this interview longer than necessary...-
35. Any fetishes?
...That’s... no, I am not answering that. -Aaand I’m done!-
36. Camping indoors or outdoors?
*Looks at non-existing watch and suddenly jumps out of chair* Oh, look at the time!  Gotta go, the galaxy can’t save itself!
*runs out the door before the interviewer could get another word in*
