TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2023
Bloodhounds (2023, South Korea)
Director & Writer: Kim Joo Hwan (based on the webtoon by Jeong Chan)
Mini-review:
I'm gonna be honest: I'm not usually a big fan of these type of movies/shows and I only started this one because of the wonderful Woo Do Hwan. However, color me surprised, cause I ended up loving Bloodhounds. Sure, this story has been told a million times before, but the bromance, the incredibly lovable characters (and incredibly hateful villains!) and the showstopping action scenes take this show to the next level. I'm telling you, it's a really enjoyable experience.
On top of that, the cast absolutely delivers. The show is filled with knockout (pun intended) performances, there's not a single weak link. You can tell just how hard these actors worked to prepare for all the fights and action sequences. Oh, and I can't leave out Kim Joo Hwan's propulsive directing, which left me breathless in several episodes. I do think the final scene cut off way too suddenly, and the sort-of-time-jump in episode 7 is also rather awkward, but I guess it's understandable, considering all the trouble the show went through during post-production. Anyway, Bloodhounds took me by surprise, and I think most people who like action movies/shows focused on hand-to-hand combat will love this.

Did you noticed that actor Choi Young-Joon very often plays some kind of police officer/agent? I haven't seen that much korean dramas, but I have seen him in those roles three times already (pictures: Bloodhounds, Sound of magic, Vincenzo). I wonder why is that, does he look like a typical korean policeman? In any case, if I will see him in some other drama in future... I will suspect him to be a secret agent right away :)
But I really like him and I would like to see him in main role.

this scene lives rent-free in my head and the screencaps alone don't really do it justice so here's the full clip
i wish we'd gotten more scenes of the four of them, they're SO fucking funny together

Our Blues
Tumblr media
Everyone has a sadness in their lives, but the pain doesn't outlive us when we face the demons, and rely on those that we love and love us back.
I loved how the intro gave us a hint of what story we would be seeing. Each story was connected to an album, reminding us that music triggers our memories because music is the soundtrack of our lives. The vinyl covers reflected the theme of the story of the episode. Each story had its own tone, some stories were harsh, hard to watch, others were just sad, others were full of fear, but the all had one thing in common, they were about love and healing.
I liked the topics because they are usually not addressed with humanity and realism. This series gives a voice to those that suffer depression, gives a voice to those teens who become parents, to husbands who are physically abused by their wives, parents who do anything to make their children's dreams come true, the lives of people with learning disabilities and that of their families, and so on.
These characters were real to me. They were good people that at times hurt others, with words or actions. Their grayish and dimensions made me connect with them, made me feel for them and smile when they found the path to healing.
It is a beautiful series. A must watch!
P.S. And what a cast!
