Buck & Eddie: Chris' Parents!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In a post I completed a few days ago (linked here), I explained how Buck wears specific colors when he's looking for answers and in it, I mentioned how he was wearing the color shirt he usually wears whenever he's looking for them. When TM (showrunner) first released the still of Buck and Chris from 7x1, Buck's pants weren't shown because it didn't include the lower half of his body. However, the stills for 7x1 that were released yesterday do include the bottom half of his body and he's wearing navy-blue pants.
After completing a post about The Buckley-Diaz Family yesterday, I vaguely remembered Shannon was wearing the same colors in 2x7 that Buck will be wearing in 7x1 and I got curious. Reminder, Eddie had to call her and when he did, he asked her to come over so they could talk about Chris' admission into Durand. I didn't watch the episode again but I did fast forward through it to get to that specific scene and I was right. She's wearing a rust/dark orange colored blouse and it's a similar color to the shirt Buck's wearing in all the stills from 7x1 while he's in Chris' room. Also, both of them were wearing navy-blue pants.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When she arrived at Eddie's house, she was looking for answers after having been gone for almost 2 years and it appears Buck's going to be looking for answers too about something while he's there in 7x1. Reminder, he's going to be helping Chris with his homework, possibly math but remember his "special skills" disappeared after 6x13 so...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Additionally, Eddie didn't enter Chris' room with her, he kept standing in the doorway similarly to the way he will be doing in 7x1. Since it's just a still, no one but the showrunner, producers, writers, actors and actresses know if Eddie actually enters while Buck's there. Since the lighting is different, it appears Buck will already be gone when Eddie's standing in the doorway looking at Chris (the still on the right has Eddie standing in the doorway).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Please note, Eddie HAS entered Chris' room with Buck and he did it in 5x17 but IIRC, he never entered Chris' bedroom with Shannon and she's Chris' mother.
And just for kicks and giggles, reminder, guess who Buck and Eddie were talking about in 5x17? EDDIE'S PARENTS! 🤪😜🙃
Please NOTICE HOW BUCK'S SITTING ON THE BED WITH CHRIS in 7x1 (not the first time) BUT SHANNON WAS NOT in 2x7!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reminder, she asked Eddie if Chris ever asked about her while she sat on his bed but Eddie said, "Not in a while. He has a lot to keep him busy...". She also asked him if she could see Chris when they went into the living room while she was sitting on Eddie's GRAY couch (not the blue one that he has now, related post linked here) but Eddie said, he didn't want to confuse him because Chris hadn't seen her in almost two years.
Tumblr media
Reminder, Buck hasn't left Chris and he told him he wasn't going anywhere in 4x8. Also, another point to make about the conversation they had in 4x8 is Chris was talking about people who went away including... guess who? Shannon!
Tumblr media
Reminder, Buck sat on Chris' bed with him in 4x14 after Eddie got shot. Chris consoled him after Buck broke down and he told him it was going to be ok.
The point of this post is to illustrate how Buck and Shannon have been further paralleled with their clothing and they illustrate how both of them were/are looking for answers from Eddie regarding their place in Chris' life. I said in the post I completed about the color gray (linked above) that Eddie's the one who will have to tell Buck what his role is in Chris' life. He's the only one who can.
I said in another post I did about Dad!Buck that Chris was looking for Buck in 6x11 during Buck's coma dream not Eddie (linked here) but Buck didn't understand it. He asked him, "Can you help me find my dad?"
Additionally, the fact that Eddie's standing in Chris' doorway both times is significant. It's been speculated that Eddie's holding the letter that Shannon wrote to Chris since it's on blue paper and if he is then 👀.
Tumblr media
Don't forget about Eddie's WILL! Eddie named Buck to be Chris' legal guardian in it but IYKYK. Eddie's action was a LOVE CONFESSION BECAUSE HE WAS GIVING BUCK HIS HEART.
Tumblr media
Please understand, 9-1-1 is NOT being subtle in season 7 with the parallels between Buck and Shannon. Eddie and Buck have been coparenting Chris for years and I've completed several posts about it (one is linked here).
Finally, another reminder... Shannon left El Paso when Chris was 5 years old and when she returned, she was only there for a few months, therefore she was probably actively in Chris' life for about 5 years and some months before she died but Season 7 marks the fact that Buck has now been a huge part of Chris' life for more than 6 years 👀.

Just read a fic where Chris calls Buck ‘Pop’ and it’s cute and adorable and some part of me really sees that it can happen, especially if buddie does become canon, but also—I can just see him call Buck as Buck for the rest of their lives. I can see Chris just default to always calling him his Buck, because Buck to him exists on another plane, another label, another important person in his life. Buck doesn’t mean more than Dad or less than Dad, it exists in its importance on its own. Buck is Buck. But also I can just really see him call him Dad—on the occasions that Chris needs to, or needs Buck to hear it. I can see Chris using Dad the same way Eddie uses Evan. When they want to address that part of Buck, the part they know needs to be dragged out sometimes but love all the same, maybe even more.

Anyway I was thinking about Chris a lot lately and I wanted to draw Brent today so why not draw both!
(Angel is Chris' daughter who is like. 6 or 7. And she very happily has announced she will marry Mr. Right when she grows up and Right is just like "yes exactly, see, Chris? One person loves me enough to marry me I love my future wife" and it drives Chris up a wall. Brent normally calls her Angel but sometimes he has to push the button.)

Good Cop Parent vs. Bad Cop Parent
Fanonwriter2023 on AO3
Where CANON and FANON collide!
New Buddie Fanfic Available in the "Good Cop Parent vs. Bad Cop Parent"
Part 10 is now available on AO3: "Good Cop Parent vs. Bad Cop Parent" - Chris asks his dads to sign his permission slip for a school trip but Buck, the good cop parent, signs it while Eddie, the bad cop parent, debates whether he should be allowed to go. Is Eddie’s hesitancy about the trip warranted or is it baseless?
Tumblr media
"Good Cop Parent vs. Bad Cop Parent"
11.7K Words; Rated: Teen and Up Audiences
_________
Here's a snippet from a conversation Buck overhears between Eddie and Chris.
_________
As soon as Buck opens the door, at the sound of his husband’s and son’s voices, he tilts his head to the side because he can hear them and it sounds like they’re having a heated discussion about something. Even though they’re not yelling, it’s the tone in the words being spoken that causes him to pause and listen.
“I’m not going to sign the permission slip yet because I’m still debating if we should let you go to San Francisco.”
He sighs, then replies, “But dad… Buck already signed it and we talked about it during the summer, so I don’t understand”.
“You’re right we did but… that was months ago and I’m not sure if you going that far away from home is a good idea.”
Buck’s sure they haven’t realized he’s at home yet, so he quietly sits his bag in their laundry/mudroom, then he closes the door, walks through the hallway that leads to the kitchen and that’s where he sees his husband in his uniform standing on one side of their round wooden kitchen table and Chris sitting on the other side with a frustrated look on his face.
He wasn’t expecting to walk in and find them in a heated discussion and since Eddie mentioned the permission slip, he’s positive they’re talking about the trip to San Francisco that’s scheduled for early next month.
“Dad?!” Chris shakes his head in disbelief then continues. “Did something happen to make you change your mind?”
“No. I’ve just been thinking about whether it’s a good idea for you to go on an overnight school trip that lasts for two nights.”
“Huh? Dad? I mean we’ve talked about this and I need to go. I’m one of the captains on the team and if I don’t go then…” He trails off because he’s getting upset and he doesn’t want to be disrespectful.
Buck’s standing there moving his head from side to side like a ping pong ball as he watches his husband and son go back and forth in their discussion. After hearing the exasperation and frustration in Chris’ voice, he figures now’s the time to intervene before one of his boys says something they’ll regret.
He walks over and stands on the side of the table and says, “Good evening family. What did I miss?”
What did Buck miss? 🙃
Also, why is Eddie reconsidering their joint decision to let Chris go on a school field trip to San Francisco? 👀

Buck picks Chris up from school on Thursdays because that’s when Eddie has therapy with Frank. Chris hangs out at Buck’s loft until Eddie gets there, then the three of them have family dinner. Chris’ class is having a party on Friday so of course this week they’re making cookies on Thursday.
This is parenting behavior. Christopher Diaz has two dads.

Buck: Wow no one has ever seen me or known me like Natalie!
Eddie: *sighs, with a sigh of a man 1000 percent beyond done with his husband* Buck, can she tell based just on your face when your gassy?
Buck:……………no?
Eddie: *rolls his eyes exasperatedly* That’s right, no she can’t. I, however, can. Now our son would like your lasagna for dinner tonight. Let’s go.

Something about Eddie helping smuggle Christopher into the ICU and crying all the while is so special to me bc he didn’t want to let Chris see Buck like that but he also 1. Didn’t have the emotional or mental strength to argue about it; and 2. Didn’t know if it would be the last time Chris ever saw Buck alive and didn’t want to rob him of the opportunity to speak to him one last time.
And Eddie doesn’t know this but when he was shot and Buck and Carla had that conversation about Chris like “do you think he knows what’s going on?” and “I think he understands more than we’d like him to” because he’d already lost his mom… like Carla knew that Chris understood the very real possibility that Buck wouldn’t survive this time which is why he was so damn insistent about seeing him. Because if he was about to lose another parent, he was damn well gonna get in the last word and make sure Buck knew he was loved and wanted and to convince him to claw his way back to his family.
Eddie doesn’t necessarily realize how much Chris understands, either. So listening to him talk to Buck only exacerbates his own grief and guilt.
Also I have a head canon about Eddie staring at the lightning scars on his own hands and forearms the first time he changes after the accident and feeling so guilty and terrified that he refuses to touch Buck at all in his coma until they fade, but when Chris sits with him he notices them himself and traces his fingers over them gently and when he sits with Buck he looks for them on his hands but doesn’t see any. And he asks Hen and Eddie where Buck’s scars are, and Hen explains that they’re on his chest because that’s where the lightning hit. And Eddie is just devastatingly sad but Chris is right there with him through it all…..
