You win some, you lose some...
After beating scummy Leeds and the much more tolerable Olympique Lyonnais, many fans suggested United were on fire, Erik Ten Hag was cooking, and superlatives were flowing all over Twitter.
Well, like the change from Twitter to X, so did United's fortunes change with our midweek games against Wrexham and Real Madrid.
Tumblr media
For the academy prospects (and Jonny Evans) we saw the impact of physicality beyond technical ability. Wrexham were strong, progressive with their build-up play, and the 3-5-2 style caused United's kids problems.
United, in response, were full of guile but ultimately lacked end product up front - a tale we're too familiar with in the first team. Things may have been different had Dan Gore not been sent off, but the same could be said of the freak injury to Paul Mullin. Bishop's poor tackle on the edge of the box broke the star forward's rib and punctured a lung, potentially ruling the forward out for a number of months. It wasn't deliberate but it was a red, and United's eventual 10 men was only fair.
Despite the 3-1 defeat Hannibal stood out, and Fernandez and Jurado not far behind him in terms of potentials for the first team, but the friendly was a good indication of the good, bad, and potential with the youth prospects. A lot of loans should be pursued now.
Tumblr media
For the first team, a match with Don Carlo's Galacticos was never really likely to be a United win without a no9. Bellingham scored a wonderful (BUT OFFSIDE) opening chip over Onana, and maybe the De Gea fans were right - David would have been on his line and the opportunity to lob would be gone. That said, it's a gamble. I prefer my keepers to be able to pass to teammates more often than they pass to the opposition.
Mainoo's injury was the big disappointment of the night, like Amad's, and deprived us of seeing just how ready he is for first team football. Arsenal is one thing, but Madrid are the real deal.
In his stead, Eriksen showed the weaknesses we're already aware of; great technique and vision but ultimately slow and defensively lacking. Mount's energy and pressing helps with this, but that's not enough versus big teams like Real, Barca, City, Bayern, and I think it's no surprise we're seeing reports of a bid for Fiorentina's Amrabat currently.
A 2-0 defeat is a shame, but United weren't bullied out of the game or overrun. There were chances, but without a true striker it makes a big difference. Same goes for the line-up tinkering. Bruno out wide isn't terrible, but it won't get the best from him. ETH needs to try different formations though. Adaptation and flexibility are what make champions.
Pre-season is about bedding in tactics and an overarching strategic approach to football. With the World Cup last year, and a heavily congested fixture list, this just wasn't possible to the level required. Now is the time to truly see Ten Hag Ball. Erik Ten Hag's second season (pending Hojlund and Amrabat) could be very tasty. Up the fucking reds.

Exhausted - Trent Alexander-Arnold & Andy Robertson
Who: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson Request: hii :) could you do a trent fic where he gets injured during a match or in training and passes out or even he doesnt get injured just passes out from exhaustion and the team crouds round and medics get called over and of course have robbo being worried about him. Thank youu ! :))) Requested by: anonymous Warnings: mentions of injury / passing out, worry/panic A/N: Just let me know if, after reading this, anyone would be interested in a part 2 to this imagine. I'm kind of having an idea for a second part to this, but not sure if anyone thinks this is imagine is any good and deserves another part 😁
Tumblr media
He should have asked for rest, or at least said something about how he wasn't feeling in top condition, Trent realized that much now. For weeks, he had been feeling so tired and altogether out of energy, but it never once crossed his mind to ask to be left out of the lineup. A decision he would come to regret... ----- The match turned out to be hard and quite physically demanding. They weren't even halfway through the second half, or Trent had already run himself completely ragged. Still, he refused to give up and get himself substituted. His performance was still above average, and he willed himself to keep going. But he knew he was pushing himself to his limits, and already well beyond those. In the 78th minute was when things went completely sideways for Trent. He lined up together with Andy for a free kick close to their opponent's goal. As he stood waiting for the referee to blow his whistle, Trent suddenly felt himself get unwell. The world swam around him all of a sudden, and it was like the stadium sounds were coming to him through a mile of water. His vision started to darken, and he felt like all his muscles had suddenly lost all their strength. "Robbo, I... I d-don't feel so good..." Trent staggered on his feet. He tried to reach for Andy's shoulder for some support, but missed. "Trent? What's going on?" Andy was confused as to what was happening, but when Trent suddenly collapsed right in front of him, Andy understood only too well. A sort of groaned breath escaped Trent's lips as he slumped to the ground, where he lay motionless. With what had happened to Christian Eriksen at the Euro 2020 still rather fresh in everyone's minds, the panic on the pitch was instantaneous. Most of all with Andy. "HELP! MEDICS!" Andy cried out. He threw himself onto his knees by Trent's side. "No, no, no.... Trent? Please, be okay... you're not doing this to me, mate." Andy frantically grabbed Trent's limp hand and pressed his fingers against the pulse point of the slender wrist. He was just able to feel a strong and steady heartbeat, when he was pushed out of the way by the arrival of the medical team.
Andy remained closeby as the medics worked on Trent. Even though he was scared shitless and panic surged through his body, Andy needed to see and hear everything that was happening with his friend. The medics were trying to get Trent to wake up, but so far to no avail. "Come on, Trentski." Andy felt tears of silent panic burn in his eyes. "Please, mate, just open your eyes." Andy felt and arm snake around his shoulders in comfort, and found Jordan appear next to him. "Are you alright?" The captain asked. Andy shook his head. "Not until I'm sure he is." "What happened?" Jordan, too, looked down at the seemingly still unconscious Trent. "I don't know." Andy's voice sounded strained with emotion. "He said something about not feeling well, and then he just... collapsed." Jordan frowned in concern. He had to admit this didn't sound altogether reassuring, but he decided not to voice those concerns to Andy at this moment. "But I felt a heartbeat..." Andy vigorously nodded his head, the suppressed panic visible in all his features. "I felt his pulse, Hendo, and he still has a heartbeat." Jordan tightened his arm around Andy's shoulder, hoping to calm the Scot down at least a little bit. "That's a very good sign." Suddenly, Andy saw something that made his heart jump in relief: Trent moved. It wasn't big, just the movement of an arm, but enough for Andy to believe that Trent at least was regaining consciousness. "Oh, thank heavens!" Andy exclaimed, clasping his hands over his face. "He's responding to them." The relief sounded through in Jordan's voice, too. The captain was right, though. Trent definitely seemed to answer when the medics spoke to him or asked him to complete simple tasks. "Andy!" Andy startled slightly when one of the medics called out to him, but he didn't hesitate for a second. He immediately rushed over and dropped himself to his knees by Trent's side. Trent lay on his back. Liverpool's medical team still surrounded him and were keeping a close eye on his condition, but Andy noticed they were calm and didn't appear to be too worried. He took it as a good sign. "Hey, Trentski." Andy ventured a careful smile. He was glad to see Trent looking up at him, even if it was still a somewhat dazed look. "Robbo..." Trent sounded oh so exhausted. "I'm sorry I scared you." "That you did," Andy scoffed, "what happened?" Trent closed his eyes and took his time opening them again before he answered. "I exhausted myself. I've been so tired these past weeks, and..." Trent fell silent. "Your body told you to stop," Andy finished for him. "Yeah," Trent mumbled. Andy didn't make any comments on Trent's decisions to make himself available for this match even when he clearly hadn't been feeling altogether right. That was a conversation for a later date. For now Andy was just glad that this was 'all', and there was no reason to assume something was horribly wrong with Trent. "Robbo..." Trent caught his friend's attention one final time before he would be carried off the pitch. "What's it, mate?" Andy rested a hand on Trent's chest. "Top left," Trent mumbled. Andy frowned. "Huh?" "The free kick." Trent smiled tiredly. "Top left. It's the goalkeeper's weak corner." "Andy laughed. "That's what you're worrying about right now?" Trent didn't have time to come up with a response, as the medics choose that moment to lift him of the ground and stretcher him off the pitch. He was carried through the players' tunnel, when suddenly an almighty roar of cheers erupted through the stadium. Trent chuckled softly to himself, because he knew Andy had put the ball in the top left corner.

Nottingham Forest 0 - 2 Man United
United’s injury woes continue as Marcel Sabitzer had to be replaced by Christian Eriksen in the starting XI before the game even started as he was injured during warmups.
United looked good throughout the entire game and it was only due to incredibly heroics from Keylor Navas that they that only scored twice. Antony scored United’s first goal during the first half and Diogo Dalot got the second, his first in the Premier League (all his other goals for United have been in other competitions), in the second half.
This result and Newcastle dropping points yesterday means that United are solidly in third place. However, should Newcastle win their next match they will push United back down to fourth as they have a much better GD.
Next up United will travel to Sevilla for the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals before returning to England to play at Wembley for the FA Cup Semi-final against Brighton

Everyone’s talking about how amazing it is that Christian Eriksen is playing for Denmark at the World Cup after his cardiac arrest and what an inspiration he is…
And I’m just sitting here like, “Wow, this man really has a death wish.”
He has an implantable cardioverter defibrillator at 30 years old. He should be taking it easy. Of course he’s an adult and can do what he wants ultimately, but I just think it’s wild that he’s still playing such a physically demanding sport on the World Cup level. Is it really worth putting your health at risk like that? Especially when he has two young kids? There’s a big difference between bouncing back from an injury versus having a serious, chronic and life-altering cardiac condition. It’s crazy that they’re even allowing him to play imo.

Nigeria Super Eagles New Players
Nigeria has a long history of participating in the Premier League. The Super Eagles' involvement in the most watched league, from Efan Ekoku to the most recent addition, Joe Aribo, has been one of the key reasons Nigerians anticipate the resumption of hostilities every August/September.
The Super Eagles had eight players in the Premier League the previous season, but with Watford relegating three Nigerians and the impending departure of Leicester City's Ademola Lookman, the current Super Eagles new players are six, reconciled with the arrivals of Taiwo Awoniyi and Joe Aribo from Union Berlin and Rangers.
Joe Aribo (Southampton)
Despite the fact that Southampton lost, Aribo made his debut with a spectacular goal, sliding through a sea of legs to produce what can only be compared to a trademark Maradona or Messi shot. The midfielder joined from UEFA Europa League finalists Rangers and is expected to make his debut against Tottenham Hotspur.
Taiwo Awoniyi (Nottingham Forest)
Awoniyi joins Nottingham Forest after a successful season with Union Berlin in the Bundesliga. He is currently one of the Super Eagles' new players. Awoniyi will be expected to justify the club record fee of £17.5 million. Nottingham Forest begin their Premier League campaign against Newcastle United.
Alex Iwobi (Everton)
Iwobi helped Everton avoid relegation last season and has emerged as a key figure in Frank Lampard's plans for 2022/23. He is one of the super eagles new players Iwobi's two goals relieved some of the pressure on the Toffees' management. They begin their season against Chelsea, whom they overcame 1-0 previous season while fighting relegation.
Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City)
Despite his inability to replicate his form from the 2020/21 season, in which he scored 12 goals, Iheanacho remains an essential member of Brendan Rodgers' squad. Iheanacho will have an easier time obtaining playing time at Leicester City because the club has been quiet in the transfer market. Patson Daka, Ayoze Perez, and Jamie Vardy are his main rivals for a starting spot.
Frank Onyeka (Brentford)
Following failing to live up to the expectations surrounding his arrival in the Premier League, Onyeka was demoted to substitute roles after his first few games with Brentford. To be a regular starter, the hard-tackling midfielder must outperform Christian Nrgaard and Vitaly Janelt. Christian Eriksen's departure could boost his chances.
Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City)
Tumblr media
Due to a long-term knee injury that kept him out of Leicester City's season finale as well as Nigeria's World Cup play-off against Ghana, the midfield enforcer endured a dismal 2021/22 season. Ndidi is expected to return to training after showing signs of recovery. Leicester City's Premier League campaign will begin against Brentford.

Three ways Manchester United could line up with Rasmus Hojlund
Tumblr media
Three ways Manchester United could line up with Rasmus Hojlund Manchester United has found a potential solution to their center-forward issue in the form of Rasmus Hojlund. The club has reached an agreement with Atalanta for a transfer fee of £64m, which could increase to £72m based on his performance in the future. Despite the hefty price, the move reflects United's willingness to take a chance on young talents, as evidenced by Erik ten Hag's track record of trusting in such players. With just over two weeks left before the start of the 2023/24 campaign, Manchester United appears poised to secure the much-needed center-forward they've been seeking. Hojlund, who scored an impressive 16 goals during his time in Italy last season, will likely step in as the team's main striker. In the ongoing transfer window, Hojlund would be the third signing for Manchester United, following Andre Onana and Mason Mount. Onana has been confirmed as the club's new first-choice goalkeeper. Additionally, hints from Ten Hag during pre-season indicate the defensive lineup he plans to deploy in the upcoming season. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has started in every match he's been eligible for as the right-back, while Luke Shaw has been playing on the opposite side. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane have consistently held the center-back positions and are not expected to be changed unless due to injury or illness. Considering this is likely to be the projected defensive setup for the upcoming season, let's explore how the rest of the team might be organized with Hojlund's involvement. The likeliest line-up In the midfield, Casemiro and Mount could be potential starters, with newly appointed captain Bruno Fernandes supporting the attack. Antony, for whom Ten Hag invested £85m last year, is expected to retain his place in the team. As for the forward positions, Marcus Rashford excels on the left side and would be given the opportunity to play there, while Hojlund takes up the center-forward role.  Rashford, who impressively scored 30 goals in the previous season, demonstrated during the match against Real Madrid that he may face difficulties when playing as a center-forward, which is why a role on the left wing suits him better. The back-up XI If Antony is unavailable, Jadon Sancho would be the most probable replacement on the right-wing. During pre-season, the English international has occasionally been deployed as a false nine and has even scored in that position against Arsenal. However, with Hojlund occupying the center-forward position, it is unlikely that Sancho will be used as a false nine. Additionally, Alejandro Garnacho seems to be primarily suited for the left-wing role, leaving Sancho as the backup option on the right. Despite some lackluster performances last season, Ten Hag has shown confidence in Sancho and is willing to give him opportunities to prove his abilities. The alternative team Against Madrid, Bruno Fernandes was deployed on the right-wing, and Ten Hag sometimes persisted with this tactic, even though the captain was less effective in that position. If such a situation arises during the regular season, Christian Eriksen could be brought in as a replacement, with Mount being pushed slightly further forward to support the attack. Unfortunately, Facundo Pellistri is expected to be loaned out, so he won't be available for the team this season. Nevertheless, with Hojlund in the squad, the team can expect to provide him with excellent service to maximize his goal-scoring potential. Match Review: Bayern München 4-3 Manchester United
Lets be honest, reds. Defeat was almost certainly on the cards and a 1-goal deficit is perhaps a best case scenario.
Tumblr media
In classic Ten Hag Era fashion, United started off looking competitive. We were more patient than against Brighton and spent good spells in Bayern's half, but that... didn't last [see below]
Tumblr media
Beleaguered goalkeeper Andre Onana conceded what can only be described as a howler - on the back of a stream of constant criticism since the start of the season. An easy shot going in? Why does that seem familiar? Oh yeah, De Gea.
Kudos to Onana though. He actively requested to speak to the press post-match to apologise for his mistake, citing a good team performance and his failure as the reason for a missed result. I think he's wrong on that count - it was a team failing - but the humility to apologise and be accountable is an admirable trait.
Just four minutes later came Bayern's second goal; a well worked play around our box that was SO similar to goals scored by Brighton and Arsenal that either Lindelof/Casemiro aren't doing their jobs OR the coaching staff need to fix something in training because that was predictable and basic.
Tumblr media
Despite limited service, Rasmus Hojlund was one of two (maybe three) bright sparks in United's performance. The Champions League debutant (we don't count an Atalanta qualifier) scored from a rare Marcus Rashford pass to bring the score back to 2-1.
Optimism suddenly. Energy. Vitality. Desire. United woke up! And then the Christian Eriksen/Casemiro pivot was bypassed yet again, Munich put it on United, and Eriksen conceded a silly but unfortunate handball - which led to a Harry Kane penalty and a 3-1 lead.
United never looked like the better team after the first 10 minutes, nor competitive after the first 20, but credit to the likes of Reguilon (who put in a big shift) and Pellistri (perhaps his first United start? away at Bayern?) for their determination and work rate through the match. Basic things, but if others aren't doing it it's remiss not to credit them.
Manchester United hung on in but freshly deflated didn't look like a renewed threat. Despite this, we some how scored the most scuffed goal from Casemiro. 3-2, game back on, right?
Wrong. Bayern push again and bang in a tidy 4th. Depression. But wait, then United run up the other end, final minute, and Bruno puts in a peach of a free kick for Casemiro to head home. 4-3, with 10 seconds of play left.
Tumblr media
To the neutral, this was an interesting game, but it wasn't a good match. Had Bayern been in any semblance of form they could have snotted United 6 or 7 nil. That said, had United not had so many injuries and also been in form... I reckon we could have won. Were both teams in form then it would really have been a classic ECL clash. This is the nature of football. Shit happens, teams adapt.
There were few positives for United to draw from that match, but there were things confirmed: Eriksen cannot do it in the big games anymore. Casemiro needs a rest. Martinez/Lindelof needs work. Dalot is lucky AWB is out injured. Rashford needs to stop sulking and pass more. McTominay needs a special 1 on 1 coach to teach him movement and positioning because the man is allergic to receiving a pass.
The good news is that Mount, Varane, Amrabat and Mainoo are all close to a return. Will any be back for Burnley? We'll see, but that's the new focus and a must-win - potentially even a relegation six-pointer based on current form... jesus christ.

Candle lit dinner

30 Day Challenge My daily challenge with prompts, these fics will not be tagged only if they were requested by an account and they’ll be under 500 words. 13. Candle lit dinner  Christian Eriksen  Word Count: 275 requested by: @howe-aythe-eriksens
Chris was acting off all day, you’d both been at home. You were working in the office, while Chris was working in the gym as he was still recovering from injury.  “Get changed?” you looked straight up at Chris as you looked puzzled.  “Huh?” you bluntly replied.  “I have a surprise for you” he smiled as you still looked confused, but you did as you were told and saw that there was a new outfit laid out on the bed with a small note.  “Wear this tonight xx” you laughed, still having no clue what he was up to but you got changed into your new black dress as you walked down the stairs.  As you walked downstairs, the lights were off and you stood in the living room as the candles were all lit.  “Oh wow, what are you doing?” you asked him.  “I wanted to do something for you, us. Just for us” he smiled as he moved to reveal the plate of food on the table.  “You did all this?” you smiled as he pulled the chair out as you sat down on it.  “Yes I did, hope this is okay” the small creases in his forehead crinkled as a huge smile appeared on his face.  “This is so thoughtful, I can’t believe you did this for me” you whispered as you sipped on your wine.  “No problem, I think we were annoying each other too much and my injury was bothering me. But thought we would have a cute night evening in, rather than sitting and watching the TV” Christian smiling away as you clinked your glasses as you mumbled cheers.

Marcel Sabitzer is ideal Christian Eriksen cover for Man Utd: ‘Most important quality is he can read the game’ | Football News
Christian Eriksen has not been Manchester United’s best player this season but the injury that has ruled him out until late April soon brought home the fact that he is among their most important. It is difficult to replace the Dane from within. Against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday evening, Casemiro took on that creative mantle once more, setting up Wout Weghorst for the best chance of the first…
