Putting down roots was meant to bring people hope, but if Ziggy was honest, she’d been uprooted enough times she doubted she would ever put down roots again… and then she met The Mouse. Lorna Snell, Gamer and Gaming Reporter, had tamed the Mouse, offered it a home instead of a chase. So when she collapsed, eyes rolling back into her head, body shutting down, the Mouse sought out help. Ziggy, alone, walking her dog past the house, yelps when she’s confronted with the creature, then pulls Major Tom back and orders him to hush, her eyes seeking something in the Mouse. Then, she speaks. “Where is she?” Lorna had been a friend, once, saved by Ziggy’s death in the camp, the woman’s return to life had allowed them friendship but now… now Ziggy knew it was back, she wasn’t going to let death take her friend. She’s there, putting down roots, as she nurses Lorna back to health.  Lorna’s laptop sits easily on her lap as she types up the woman’s articles, Major Tom making sure Lorna rests. Dinners are spent with the Mouse, Major Tom guarding a resting Lorna even then, Ziggy alone with the Mouse. “You put down roots with her… why?” “She was… kind. Frightened, at first… of course I didn’t help that but she deserved… better. Better than just becoming another meal. She was kind… to me. Spoke to me. Shared wine and… pizza. Least I could do is keep her safe.” Ziggy’s smile is soft. “I might too. Stay, I mean.” “You should. She… needs you.”

hey remember when Star Trek released an episode in 1992 that had an explicitly trans character, in an episode that made it clear that conversion therapy is a harmful process that fundamentally damages people. In the early 90s.
