Fran has begun decorating the shop for the holidays. Although I am grateful, it does mean that any book with a red or green cover is likely to be pressed into service as a Christmas display.

My debut novella is out now!!
Tumblr media
If this sounds up your alley...
Jake lost his Christmas spirit when his husband left him on December 26. This year, when a friend offers him her reservation at a resort in Florida, he jumps at the chance to get away. No snow, no Christmas trees, no problems. Except the resort does a Christmas Golf Cart parade every year, and Alex, the man in the neighboring cabin, wants Jake’s help with his. Jake just wants to be left alone… until he spies Alex’s design. Maybe working together won’t be so bad. Can an unexpected friendship reawaken more than Jake’s holiday spirit?

True story. Years ago, renowned fantasy artist Todd Lockwood pitched me a children’s Christmas book idea based on the Twelve Days of Christmas. On paper, it was a fantastic concept. I felt sure it would be a holiday classic, but it was incredibly ambitious. There are a lot of children's Christmas books published each year. It is a competitive category. Then he shared some of his illustrations - they blew me away. He had created a wild and anarchic celebration of the timeless holiday song that honors the anthropomorphic illustrations of the great Wallace Tripp and William Peet while incorporating elements of Where’s Waldo and Graham Base’s Animalia. This was a book kids would want to read over and over every year, finding and counting all the characters and discovering something new each time they explored the detailed illustrations.
But back then, working with traditional publishers, Christmas books came with very rigid milestones to hit. There were firm on-sale dates and a short holiday book sales season. In the end, to do a book like this Todd Lockwood, one of the most in-demand fantasy artists working, would have to clear his schedule and work exclusively on these grand illustrations for a year to make those dates. The logistics just didn’t work. There were just too many already contracted New York Times Bestselling book covers to paint.
But that was the pre-Kickstarter world. At last, this epic work will hit the press, and I can’t recommend it enough. If you have kids, you will want to make this book a family Christmas tradition.

Book Rec: The 12 Dogs of Christmas by Susan Wiggs
Audiobook narrated by Sophie Amoss (8 hours, 14 minutes)
If you enjoy romance and dog rescue this book is for you!
Tumblr media
Brenda Malloy hates Christmas, but when the dog rescue she tirelessly volunteers for needs a second transport driver, she steps up to the plate. She has just enough time to help drive from Houston, TX to Avalon, NY and back before Christmas... only nothing goes as it was planned.
Enter a blinding snowstorm, an escaped rescue dog, and paramedic Adam Bellamy and Brenda's plans go out the window. This novel is about keeping the magic of the season, and Brenda finding herself along the way.
The narrator has a pleasant voice and the the novel moves along at a decent pace, creating an enjoyable listening experience. There are some curse words and some sexual situations, so this isn't a completely clean read, but it's a delightful story.

Have you read...
note: If you did not finish but feel you read enough to form an opinion, you may choose a ‘Yes’ option instead of 'Partly' (e.g., Yes, I didn’t like it). Similarly, if you’ve never heard of a book until now but formed an opinion from this post, you may wish to select a “no” option e.g., “No, but I want to.”

'Twas the night (okay, more like the week) before Christmas, and all through the tiny community of Pine Cove, California, people are busy buying, wrapping, packing, and generally getting into the holiday spirit. But not everybody is feeling the joy. Little Joshua Barker is in desperate need of a holiday miracle. No, he's not on his deathbed; no, his dog hasn't run away from home. But Josh is sure that he saw Santa take a shovel to the head, and now the seven-year-old has only one prayer: Please, Santa, come back from the dead. But hold on! There's an angel waiting in the wings. (Wings, get it?) It's none other than the Archangel Raziel come to Earth seeking a small child with a wish that needs granting. Unfortunately, our angel's not sporting the brightest halo in the bunch, and before you can say "Kris Kringle," he's botched his sacred mission and sent the residents of Pine Cove headlong into Christmas chaos, culminating in the most hilarious and horrifying holiday party the town has ever seen. Move over, Charles Dickens—it's Christopher Moore time.
