Die Hard Review 8.8/10

Yippee ki-yay Mother Father is actually what I would hear if the movie Die Hard (1988) was on basic cable TV. Instead, I was able watch this fantastic movie on IFC the other day with strong language and violence. BRING IT ON!

Die Hard, a little known movies about a cop named John McClane who visits sunny Los Angeles to work as security for his estranged wife’s company. He’s a NYC fish out of an LA type of water. On Christmas Eve, the Nakatomi employees are having their annual Christmas party with fun, booze and apparently a little cocaine into the mix. Along came a band of German terrorists to destroy the Nakatomi Towers and the hostages inside. Hans Gruber, played by Alan Rickman, is the head number one in charge. He is the brains and the leader of the operation. His goal is to steal the bonds out of a safe, approximately 600 million to be exact. Well, little did they know John McClane, played by Bruce Willis, will be on the case. As I mentioned earlier John McClane is from NYPD and doesn’t play by the rules. He is the master of his domain. Throughout the film, it’s game of cat and mouse as the two try to outwit each other with such tense measures along the way. After McClane decimates just about all of Gruber’s men, Hans feels that he should take matters into his own hands and tries to detonate the building. McClane is hardly alone in all of this, he has a confidant in Al Powell, played by Reginald VelJohnson, also known as everyone’s favorite TV cop, Carl Winslow. The two share share a great bond as they get to know each other through walkie-talkies. The dialogue is so great between the two that you would think they were buddies in another life. As McClane finally reaches the end, he is faced with Gruber and his wife held at gunpoint. SPOILER ALERT! He manages to shoot Gruber, but not before falling out of a window to his demise. Great shot of Rickman face while falling is a delight.

Overall, the movie is so great, that some goofs such as McClane’s shirt being all of a sudden dark in one scene doesn’t take away the fact that the movie is fast paced and always keeps you at the edge of your seat.

Great direction by John McTiernan, who also directed Predator, The Hunt for the Red October, Last Action Hero, and The Thomas Crown Affair.

Fun Fact: He also directed Die Hard with a Vengeance, but nothing could top the original Die Hard. A must see.

Available to stream on various platforms

Last Christmas (2019)

Rating: PG-13

Director: Paul Feig

Score: 7/10

Summary: Nothing seems to go right for young Kate, a frustrated Londoner who works as an elf in a year-round Christmas shop. But things soon take a turn for the better when she meets Tom – a handsome charmer who seems too good to be true. As the city transforms into the most wonderful time of the year, Tom and Kate’s growing attraction turns into the best gift of all – a Yuletide romance.

I am a fan of cheesy Christmas romance movies, absolutely love them! So when I saw the previews I knew I had to see this. And was I disappointed with the amount of cheesy-ness? Uhh kind of, yes. In the moment I was not happy about the ending, Tom wasn’t even alive?! He wasn’t there the whole time and Kate was just imagining him because she had his heart? I am so bad at predicting what is going to happen next in movies so that was totally unexpected for me. And it didn’t make sense, I wanted them to end up together and live happily ever after! But no they can’t because he’s dead. So during the movie I did not like it and of course I was crying. But after thinking about it and talking with the friends I went with, I started to change my opinion. She dealt with what had been hurting her the whole year and discovered ways to deal with her stress and family issues. At the same time I wish it would have ended in a “traditional” happily ever after. But that’s what made it good, it was a happily ever after in a more real life type of way.

The acting was good. Santa (the shop keeper) was hilarious! She was my favorite character, and her boyfriend was interesting as well! The way the interacted with each other with minimal words and long stares was very awkward but hilarious! I don’t know how 2 people could love Christmas that much and get along so well but clearly they make it work! Petra (Emma Thompson, Kate’s mom) was funny too. They did a great job of showing why Kate would rather couch hop than live with her parents. They also showed everything her mom was going through and what she did to try to deal with it (worry A LOT about Kate, and kind of abandoning her other daughter at the same time).

Overall all a good Christmas movie! I rated it a little lower just because I wasn’t really feeling the whole “he’s not alive but I still can see him” idea. But it was cute and had a very good message. “Look up!”

Whoa! Tonight’s my second time watching this movie!

The love, snow and white Christmas feels is on the freaking nerve of mine. Still in owe while feeling the love of a Prince to a very simple, stranger, ordinary woman — Amber, journalist!

Loving so much being in the feeling of ‘in love.’

I don’t know what I’m saying or thinking right now… I just love this movie… my liking of white Christmas. Movies like this has been a reminder for me that there is really something in white Christmas that always me wanting it, every year. Living in the Philippines, but always and dreaming of western culture, weather, and almost everything about there.

Someday, In God’s perfect time, I’ll be there. Imagining and visioning to have spent Christmas Eve in foreign land, wearing beautiful winter clothes, checking in in an AirBnb set up together with family, love ones and fave soul sisters.

[Took a screenshot.. That’s Prince Richard and Emily! So in-love!]

There’s a sequel of this, will watch again some other time.

(big sigh).. for the longest time, I’ve been longing for White Christmas. In time. It will come. On my bucket list —Japan, Canada, Ireland, Korea, USA… any country that will let me feel of having snow.

[dreaming again… imagining stuffs… so lovely]

HAHA, anyways…

This is another late night writing, been loving lately writing… self-expression and some kind of talking to my soul.

Well, just until here. Hope I’ll have good something to share on my next story.

Nighty nite!
