Wooden pins in the shape of a stump! Another piece in the shape of a cicada glued on top for a cool 3d effect. I want to make more like this!

what is UP with me finding bugs on the back of my neck/shoulders because they climbed or landed on me outside and i didn't notice. i just found a fucking ant on the back of my neck? girl when did you get there? like, i love bugs, so i'm not really mad about it but i am a little annoyed because i just sat down and then i had to get back up to take you outside. don't do that.

14 y/o just discovered what 'that annoying buzzing sound that I hear every summer' is.
Cicadas. He had no idea that the sound he heard every summer about this time were cicadas. He also didn't realize that there are multiple species of cicada, and that some are annual.
Personally, I love the sound of cicadas in summer. I find it relaxing. I used to sit in the field behind my house growing up, just listening to the breeze and the buzzing of cicadas.

Great news for anyone in the brown or light blue areas! You may be seeing a whole lot of cicadas in spring :)
These 13 and 17-year periodical cicadas are in the genus Magicicada and will look just like those from brood X a few years ago:
Photo by Philip N. Cohen - Brood XIX, 2011
Note: Some of brood XIII emerged early in 2020, so if you were in the Chicago area at the time, you may have seen some.
