Headcanon: There is a land beyond Xadia and Katolis called the Continent, it is considered a wild undiscovered place full of warlords and unknown monsters but there are mentions of genetically augmented warriors called Witchers that fight them. Viren and Harrow actually met one in the past, his name was Geralt.
Rayla also fought alongside one named Ciri during her travels and also went to the Continent.

At the risk of needing to turn in my Witcher fan card… what is thronebreaker
Sorry nonnie, i can't believe i missed this ask!
I'm not sure i'm the most qualified person to talk about Thronebreaker given that i still haven't finished playing the game (cough cough don't look at me) but Thronebreaker is a spin-off of The Witcher taking place during the Second Northern War, meaning it's set before the events of the games (approximately during and a little bit after Baptism of Fire, if you're familiar with the books).
Featuring a love triangle filled with tension between a badass queen, his loyal and devoted general and the irreverent bandit who pledged allegiance to her What do you mean that's not what happens. I've been playing the game cdpr. If you didn't want me to read too much into their relationship then maybe you shouldn't have written them that way--
Anyway. The game features cool characters from the books that didn't get enough "screen time" like Queen Meve or Black Rayla, and expands on the events happening in the background while Geralt was busy traveling south to rescue Ciri. You play as Meve, queen of Lyria and Rivia, as she tries to save her kingdom and reclaim her throne. It has well-written and memorable characters, a great story, an even greater love story and while I know some people skip battles, I personally rather enjoy its gwent-based gameplay.
I think it's a great addition to the witcher universe, filled with little references and nods to the rest of the franchise, and I warmly encourage you to play it if that's something you'd be interested in. Maybe it was just supposed to be a big marketing move to promote CDPR's digital card game Gwent but damn did they go hard

Hi! I love your witcher content. If you don't mind and have some time, I'd like to ask you a few questions.1) What is your favorite underrated tertiary character? 2) Do you see Ciri ever being in a long-term romantic relationship with someone? If so, do you have someone specific in mind? 3) Your thoughts on Sh'eenaz and her story. Btw she was bi, right? (I don't know if I remember it correctly) 4) Ace Milva, pan Regis - thoughts?
Hi Nonny! Ooo, what a fun ask.
Favorite underrated tertiary character.
Ok, this will depend on what you mean by tertiary.
Milva. I'm a big Milva fan, as people know. (that's my Milva character write up) But she might be seen as secondary, not tertiary.
Nenneke. She isn't just Geralt's mother figure. While that is very important, she also plays an important role in the narrative with the themes of religion, of the feminine, and of the divine. I still haven't gotten to my post about her, but I will.
Angoulême. I also dearly dearly love Angoulême. I get emotional when I think about her. The witcher books love to put the main characters through hell but then give you a parallel character where they show you...but guess what babes...it could be alot worse. Because...what if they didn't have each other? Brehen contrasts with Geralt because he doesn't have Kaer Morhen, and Angoulême contrasts with Ciri because she is just like her (looks, nationality, fell into a gang, etc) but she doesn't have noble blood and she doesn't have anyone running across the continent trying to help her.
If you want more tertiary than that, I'd say I really love Black (I'll see you in hell) Rayla. I love Dainty (All Cops are Bastards) Bibervelt. I love Percival (beloved nerd) Shuttenbach. There are so many more. But there is a handful.
2. Ciri and romance. I mean, she might! I haven't personally thought about it though. I've only read the books and watched the show. So, in my only canon experience with Ciri, she is no more than 16 and deeply traumatized. When I sit down to write fic, I just want her to get to be a kid, and spend time with her parents. I ship her with time to heal. I just feel very very protective of her, almost irrationally so. (she doesn't exist, Des!)
If I played the games and saw her as an adult, OR if I really sat down to write and tried to imagine something, I'm sure I could. But I haven't sat down and imagined yet, as she heals and grows, what she would want and who that would be.
Just my personal thing, I don't begrudge anyone else their ships, and I hope everyone else is having fun shipping Ciri.
3. Sh'eenaz. The thing with the witcher characters is, they never 'identify' themselves as any sexuality. And then fans scratch each other's eyes out inferring different things from it and fighting, which is very frustrating.
But Sh'eenaz DEFINITELY says that she has sex with women (well, mermaids). When Algloval won't trade in his legs for a tail so she can have a real committed relationship with him and reproduce with him, she gets very angry. She's like...he's not taking this seriously. He just wants sex and no sacrifice or commitment. She says she already has girlfriends who will have sex with her, and that, by the way, they are much better at it than him.
"Tell him I have girlfriends who are much better at those frolics that he was suggesting on the rocks!"
She's like, if all you're giving me is sex, I can get better, elsewhere. She wants a real relationship and to spawn.
I think for me, the main question I have for her arc is, what changes her mind at the end? Is it mostly to achieve peace and keep Algloval from invading the ocean? Is it love? Is it both? I wonder how much of it is each? I still have to think about that one. It's a great story though, and I listen to the audiobooks, so Peter Kenny's voice as Geralt singing mer language will never ever leave me lolol.
4. Ace Milva. I talked about it a bit on my Milva post I linked up there. In canon she is annoyed when the others talk about sex, and she has had a very empty sexual experience. She is never shown to really lust over anyone or pursue sex.
but like I said before, she never 'identifies' as anything.
So, you could take those facts and spin them into any number of headcanons. I don't ever want to be the headcanon police, or to contribute to an environment in fandom where people feel they can't experiment with fics.
However, I personally like her very much as ace or demi. It is a nice fit with canon, and I've written one fic concept where to me, she is demi, and I would definitely write her or read her as ace as well. To me, that's a great headcanon.
Pan Regis. I don't remember if there is any evidence of this? But I vibe with it. I don't want to delve too deeply into why I that is, because it's late and I've written so much as it is. I should do a Regis character sheet, but I have so many I want to do in front of him in the queue. But I'm very down with this headcanon.
Thanks for the ask!! And for talking about the books with me and reading my posts. <3 <3 <3

Closed Starter(Ciri/Meredith): Somewhere Safe
Ciri walks aimlessly through town, trying to sort it all out in her head. Rayla had lied to her for the last five years. Her father has been alive this whole time. And he's the one who's been after her?
Her phone dings with Meredith's reply, and she feels a small wave of relief. It's somewhere to go, with someone she feels safe with. She breaks out in a sprint towards Meredith's house, not wanting to spend anymore time alone with her thoughts than she has to be.
She makes it there in minutes, knocking on the door with an out of breath smile.

arcane, and embroidery?
Arcane: what character in any piece of media do you relate to strongly?
Not including fictives even though it’s kinda be a funny joke lol but
Gojo Saturo Jujutsu Kaisen
Shoto Todoroki - My Hero Academia
Rayla - Dragon Prince
Osamu Dazai - Bungo stray dogs
Ciri - The Witcher 3
(There’s more I’ll add later that I can’t think of off the top of my head lol)
Embroidery: what's your favorite popular piece of art? lesser known piece of art?
Popular pieces I’m torn on:
Starry night is a classic
Also The Great Wave off Kanagawa I almost obsessively recreate
The creation of Adam is also pretty cool I’m so jealous I can’t draw hands for crap
As for unpopular ones I don’t really know a lot of names but there are some modern sort of trend in art I can really appreciate such as:
- minimalism
- humans drawn incompletely with flowers or bones replacing flesh (bonus points if both)
- femininity but close in on small things/ emphasis on realistic (double hips, cellulite etc)
- blurred lights whether natural or artificial
- ghosts both cutesy and realistic
- all black and white with one color used as a highlight/ to show a light source
Thank you so much for the ask!

What happens when you rewatch The Witcher while flipping through The Dragon Prince art book? And happen upon the drawing of Ethari playing the lute? You start to imagine him singing an elf version of “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher” to his hubby Runaan, that’s what!
And the song is called “Toss a Coin to Your Assassin” btw. Because it’s 10 pm and I don’t have enough brain cells to come up with something more creative.

Honestly, I’m just waiting for the seasons to reach that scene from the books of Ciri bathing with a bunch of the sorceresses and slowly realizing how much of a lesbian she really is. Not to mention it would be the first real scene with Black Rayla as well.

Someone tell me to stop making plans to cosplay (what feels like) half of my favorite The Witcher characters
Because so far I want to dress up as:
Butcher of Blaviken!Geralt
Eskel (but slutty)
Vernon Roche
game!Ciri (but with a hobby horse and vuvuzela slung across my back because I don’t think any conventions will let me bring my sword and because I want to have a horsie)
maybe Black Rayla but I don’t know if I could commit to that hair/find a suitable wig
Queen Calanthe in her golden armor (and covered in the blood of her enemies demanding beer)
book!Angoulême

On the subject of twn being a watered down Hollywood take: I think it tragically answers itself with the classic “I don’t see a lot money in that” they made it appeal to Netflix audiences, hot guy with sword, ‘’dark fantasy’ but not actually morally complex so ppl feel comfortable, lip service powerful female characters that are still trad femme and size 2, ect ect, they have the next GOT, everyone makes $1million, its forgotten the next media cycle :(
this is so accurate it hurt my heart... also YES what you said about “ lip service powerful female characters that are still trad femme and size 2″ ... that really hits hard for me, it really makes me sad that every woman in tv/movies MUST wear so much makeup and feminine clothing only to be accepted. i mean they even put ciri in makeup in twn too, when she’s supposed to be like 14 still... this kind of thing makes me catatonic to think about how they’ll approach characters like milva and black rayla... and it’s worse because a lot of liberal women will be like “OMG there’s a woman in here who has lines, it’s sooooo good, SUCH REPRESENTATION and WIN FOR ALL WOMEN” and it just serves to make more marginalized women feel alienated and robbed of their womanhood
also “’dark fantasy’ but not actually morally complex so ppl feel comfortable” you’re so right. i talked about that a little in the post about cahir, but netflix doesn’t want to create thought-provoking media that draws on a lot of inner human/societal questions & themes, they want profit and to appease the widest audience possible.
i just feel like they could have had something really great on their hands if they went for a more artistic version, i think it could have been great for their image if they did something unique... it’s sad that we’ll never get that

I totally take the passage you quoted: "for reasons known only to herself" as a sign that Sapkowski didn't know either lol. Maybe she wanted to talk to Rita about Ciri? Or Arethuza secrets that she didn't told her yet? (I didn't read the book yet, so don't mind me if I talk crap lol) Anyway, good luck fighting your writers block!
This probably constitutes spoilers for Time of Contempt, so fair warning if you don’t want to hear more about that book, but—
I definitely read that line as a reference to the report Tissaia gets later in the chapter from the mercenary Rayla. It seems to be suggested that Tissaia is doing something covert with some royal faction (is it Demavend? I can’t remember) related to the revolt that’s being planned at the Conclave, but it’s also sort of loosely defined as far as I can parse it. A lot of the characters’ factions and intrigues feel somewhat sketchily defined to me, but maybe I’m just not reading carefully enough and someone more intimately knowledgeable about the books would be able to break it down for me. A lot of the time, I come away with the feeling that Sapkowski is very subtly suggesting some vaguely ominous intrigue I’m supposed to be able to infer the significance of, but about half the time I don’t wind up connecting the dots. I genuinely can’t tell if that’s because I’m not paying enough attention or because Sapkowski is just one of those writers who is doing stuff for the vibe and hand waving the small stuff.
That said, I’m genuinely so tickled by the idea of Sapkowski just using the phrase “for reasons known only to herself” as an excuse not to figure it out as the author. Like, the idea of a supposedly omniscient narrator who’s actually a limited third person narrator just going, “idk man I’m not a mind reader 🤷‍♀️” is extremely funny to me. Thank you!

How does the hexer adapt the lesser evil story?
Interestingly it makes her somewhat of a bigger character. In Hexer Geralt saves her from being raped right after she was banished from court and accompanies her to a band of gnome bandits which take her in. She only reappears much, much later, I think he's already looking for Ciri who was kidnapped (idk my memory is a little fuzzy here sorry) after fleeing Cintra. Her character is somewhat fused with that of Black Rayla who actually first appears in the saga books and not the short stories. Black Rayla is deeply racist and part of special forces that hunt Scoia'tael. In this vein Renfri from Hexer has made herself a name in that business. (Shit I'm not 100% sure on the details of this one it has been a little while since I watched it sorry, if someone who's more firm on the facts reads this correct me if I'm wrong) When he meets her again here at this point stuff mostly plays out the same as in the book (Stregobor etc), but it is all somewhat under the theme of the racial tensions between elves and humans.

Closed Starter: How It Starts
Ciri shows up on Axel's doorstep sobbing. She's terrified of herself, and she doesn't know where else to go. Gong home means admitting to Rayla and Callum that she's not handling being back in Auradon. It's not safe for them to return home, but she knows they would if they thought it meant keeping her from using her powers like she's been.
The words come tumbling out of her mouth the moment she sees him, stringing together into an incomprehensible mess. "IthreatenedBeastandthenalmostkilledhimIthink becauseheplacedaterriblecurseonsomeoneandthen IwaswalkingtoclassandsomeoneranintomeandthenIstoletheirmagicandthen theirfriendtriedtokeepmefromleavingandIshovedhim throughawallandnowI'mterrifiedbecauseImightdestroytheworldandthisishowitstarts." She breathes raggedly, trying to keep herself from sobbing again.
