So after... 5 years, just about? I played the City Never Sleeps DLC for Spider-Man and... holy shit. holy shit holy shit holy shit. the fucking descent of Yuri Watanabe that they include in there. AND THEY CONCLUDE IT IN AN OPTIONAL SIDE QUEST? Like. If she's back in Spider-Man 2, this is gonna completely reshape her relationship with Peter.

Spoilers obviously if you haven't played the City Never Sleeps DLC yet but...

To summarize the second chapter in the DLC, the Maggia crime family has an internal struggle as they try to fill the power vacuum left after the fall of Fisk, the Demons, and Sable leaving town in quick succession. Hammerhead has some big power play in mind, and the police intend to get ahead of it. Yuri goes into his hideout while most of his men are distracted, and they're all slaughtered. Spider-man only gets there in time to save her. She takes this hard. As the chapter progresses, she comes apart more and more until the end when she goes rogue and tries to kill Hammerhead, and gets suspended as a result.

Through completing other side quests, you learn that Yuri's grudge with the Maggia runs deeper than this one traumatic incident. And then you get to Chapter Three, where she's nowhere to be seen (because she's suspended). You are given a treasure hunt side quest about 2/3 of the way through. The goal of the treasure hunt is to look for places where crime scene tape has been displayed. You get a crime report and an audio log. The audio logs all refer to one single mob enforcer, and Yuri's attempts to catch him. At the conclusion, you find the enforcer dead in a crime scene that looked staged by a serial killer, and Yuri admits to doing it. She makes it sound like she's not done, but that's the end of the quest. There's no follow-up. Next we hear from Peter, he's on vacation and Miles is left in charge of saving New York for a few weeks.

If Yuri goes back to being Police Captain, things won't be the same between her and Peter, because he'll know wheat she's done and capable of doing again. If she doesn't, or is included in some other way, it'll be incredibly noteworthy.

But anyone who didn't clear that optional quest - which is something like 27% of people who bought Silver Lining or the remastered edition, and of course fewer people bought those than bought the base game (on the non remastered edition, ~250K bought the game, ~77K bought Silver Lining)... That's a LOT of people who are gonna be left in the dark on a major plot detail.

#kingdom hearts dream drop distance #khddd #the world that never was #scenery #my gif #i really love how sora's side of this world is dark and eerie and fully leans into how dreams can distort and twist reality #the city looks mostly normal at first aside from the ghostly fog that seeps down from buildings and drifts along the floor and rises up #but as you keep going the ground beneath you is no longer a street but rather the faces of more buildings that stretch over an abyss #it's no longer the sprawling city you first arrived in but instead an uncanny one way path towards your destination #the buildings now twist and contort and are crooked and grow out of the ground in all kinds of ways that make no logical sense #it's the first time that a sleeping world looks easily distinguishable from the real world. it looks wrong. like a nightmare #meanwhile riku's half contrasts heavily by appearing to be fairly normal #the interior of the real castle never made any practical sense so nothing here feels too out of place compared to how it usually looks #it shows how much more in control riku is in comparison to how sora is losing his grip on reality as he descends further into their trap #cool stuff! love me some environmental storytelling #also i finished giffing every world in this game yippee i'm done (is covered head to toe in blood)
