Dana Eligie’s world is a near-utopia. Poverty, hunger, and inequality are distant memories of a tarnished past. Humanity is united now through the Network--the virtual representation of the collective human mind--and their shared cyber-DNA which created it. Dana is in her last year studying to be a Dream programmer; the culmination of her life-long goal. Until utopia comes crashing down around her.

Minds have started going missing inside their Dreams, leaving their owners empty shells. With no answers and no clues, Network access is being restricted more and more by the day, and people are afraid to fall asleep. Soon, they might not be able to at all.

But while working on her final project, Dana makes a disturbing discovery; one that might just be a clue to the mystery. When authorities don’t believe her, and her best friend is the next to disappear, Dana takes matters into her own hands. With only her Familiar--an anxious cat program named Virgil--for guidance, she embarks on a quest through the Network to save her friend.

so when i started developing kristen back in ye olde 2013/2014 i remember this was when the skeleton war meme was taking over tumblr and i LOVED it so i made that like. half his personality lmao and whilst that meme is long gone it definitely shaped the rest of his interests and aesthetics! he loves the skeleton aesthetic, one time i got my friend this skull shaped candle and he definitely owns one of those, and he just generally loves all things ~spooky~. loves horror movies - both the good ones and the bad ones. will joke that their house is haunted to mess with thomas but part of him believes the house is actually haunted. i genuinely can’t wait to write a halloween chapter because it’ll serve as a kristen development chapter he will be so in his element

answering for Miss Petra. she dresses in a sort of cozy academia style. turtlenecks and knit sweaters are a staple of her look. she also tends to wear earthy colours like forest greens and warm oranges and reds and browns.

WIP INTRO - Safe in the Dark

Oh hi, been a minute, I have finally gotten around to this:

Summary:

I will try to be concise, which is difficult with a project that has been ongoing for nearly half my life.

Alex Blackwood's first night in the supposedly safe, incredibly small state of Vermont starts with frigid wind and gunshots, and ends–somewhat confusingly–with bad coffee and a warm place to sleep.  Abruptly they find themself slowing down, staying in place when all they've done the last eight years is try to outrun nightmares and parents who aren't even looking for them.  The group that takes them in has its quirks, the nighttime schedule, the lack of any substantial food in the house, answering questions Alex has before words ever come out of their mouth.

When they discover their new housemates are a little closer to dead than alive–and that they're well on their way to becoming the same–their choices narrow to death in every direction.

Between an eternity of murder and a human lifetime of fear–was there really any other option but to stay?

Stats:

Genre: Urban Fantasy/Contemporary Horror (Vampires, it’s always vampires)

POV: 3rd person, Multiple POV character, usually contained to their own chapters with occasional deviation.

Word count/goal: 40k/95k

Draft: hopefully final draft, (Oh, you want a number? Eh, somewhere around 33? I’ve been writing this since 2011. I do not have the energy to count anymore.) It is the first installment of what I am now aware is probably at least a duology if not a trilogy

content warnings: vampire typical violence / mental health issues / mind control / hallucinations / body horror / familial + child abuse / murder / graphic depictions of violence / suicidal ideation / themes of depression, loss, and lack of control.

Endings, changes, transformations // Passage, resistance, stagnation

Born the heir of her parents’ criminal empire, trained to be an assassin and torture expert, Mygre is no stranger to death. But more than that, her life has been one of cycles: of endings and beginnings and change. After escaping from her family, she found herself in yet another abusive cycle with a romantic partner. To save her younger sister, she managed to break away, and with the help of a new, supportive partner, tried to build an honest, stable life. But all things must pass. That ending felt like a kind of death itself, but was really a new beginning, and a new chance for better things. But even now, in the most stable place her life has ever been, she still has to learn to let go of the things that are holding her back from going even further.
