Love Confession
I love Shen Jiu. He is literally my favourite character. Maybe not ever, but up there.
To SJ, I dedicate this rabbit hole of takes. (And omg this ballooned into a monster)
Take 1: He’s a scum villain.
Take 2: He’s an abused, misunderstood soul who didn’t actual do most of the things he supposedly did. The Qius are the actual villains and taking vengeance was his right.
Take 3: Yes, his past was pretty bad and sure he didn’t do all of the things he supposedly did, but that doesn’t excuse his bad behaviour (he canonically, explicitly, very brutally abused a child) and ultimately, he’s still a villain. The massacre in the Qiu manor was excessively violent, and probably harmed a lot of innocent people.
Take 4: His actions and behaviour have to be taken in the context of the time. He lived in a world where violence and death were common, corporal punishment was acceptable, and subjected to violence from childhood. Judging him by modern standards is wrong. Also he was manipulated by Wu Yanzi.
Take 5: He still abused a child, not just physically but emotionally, alienated him from his peers, purposefully stunted his progress, with strong implication that he just wanted to crush LBH because he was jealous AND that he had done this to other kids. That’s pretty bad. Even YQY knew this was Not Okay. He just didn’t do anything about it. Despite being manipulated by Wu Yanzi, we see that a lot of the bad things he did, he did entirely by his own volition.
Take 6: But look at his face! How can you hate anyone with a face like that? (#PrettyPrivledgesAreReal)
Take 7: Firstly, there are two questions to be asked here. How do we judge Shen Jiu ‘in world’? How do we judge Shen Jiu as an 21st century reader?
To illustrate the difference, if LQG stabbed a serial killer in the world of SVSSS he would probably get a pat on the back for his hard work. If he did that in London today, he would be arrested for murder. We have different standards nowadays. But both questions are important, because I think most people would agree that just because society thinks it’s okay, that doesn’t make it okay in some broader sense. (Without going too deep into the theory of morality.) (Note this is a very serious question people argue about irl, so a discussion on SVSSS definitely isn’t going to cover it. E.g. how do you judge influential historical figures that had connections to the slave trade?)
1) In world.
There’s not much we know about the ethics of the SVSSS world, but let’s say it’s roughly 'ancient China' (sorry, condensing a few thousand years into one here). The unfortunate predicament was that the magnitude of your crime depended on your class. (And I understand that we do a lot of ‘oh look how backwards ancient China was’ in this fandom but Europe was atrocious too. Equality is a fairly modern take.) I think (and I’m not an expert so definitely call me out if I’m wrong but ew I just skimmed Slavery in Medieval China (Chapter 11) - The Cambridge World History of Slavery and damn life was tough) QJL beating a 12 yr old SJ would be sort of morally sus, but not like… earth-shatteringly terrible. SJ stabbing him in the stomach? Heinous crime. Now SJ abusing LBH is slightly worse because LBH is a disciple not a slave, but again not an earth-shattering crime – a stain on his reputation, but nothing on the level of the Qiu massacre. YQY could probably get away with not stepping in.
But also note, the application of the law and the views of the common people were two very different things. A layperson would probably have found the behaviour as disgusting as we do, if portrayals of villains in contemporary romances are anything to go by. (really random, but in the Romance of the Sui and Tang (written in 1695) I vaguely remember one of the heroes comes across a young man beating a woman on the street, accidently kills him, realises he’s a young lord, and has to run off because he’s about to be arrested. It’s meant to be satirical, I think)
On a more holistic level, SJ has a series of ‘character faults’ – promiscuity (arguably), disrespect of superiors etc. – which would have been judged more harshly than we might judge them now. (Being a dick to your boss is not really seen as a moral failing nowadays, although it may or may not class you as an asshole.)
2) As a modern reader
Again, lets split the question in two. There are roughly two stages to SJ’s life: before entering Cang Qiong, and after.
For before, we have the massacre of the Qiu manor, as well as various crimes under Wu Yanzi’s tutelage. (and note, ‘it was for vengeance’ will not get you out of prison these days, whether you agree with that or not (and yes, you can disagree. The law isn’t what is right, the law should be what we aim to make what is right)). There’s a reason there is a separate justice system for adolescents and adults – for one, we appreciate nowadays that adolescents are so heavily influenced by their environment that judging them by the same standards as adults is wrong. Giving Shen Jiu’s upbringing, I am going to tentatively put aside all of the things he has done in this stage of his life.
Now the primary failing of SJ’s character that we see during his time as peak lord is obviously LBH’s treatment, which by any modern standards would be a hideous, headline-worthy, prison-sentencing crime. And a bad childhood really doesn’t excuse that. Plenty of people have bad childhoods and end up fine.
On the other hand, many people have bad childhoods… and end up with bad adulthoods. Childhood trauma is linked to adulthood crime. Poverty is also another factor. There exists one (1) study which suggests a correlation between sexual abuse in males and becoming a perpetrator (please read with a very large dollop of salt. Abused becoming abusers is not as common as believed. See: The Myth Of The Abused Becoming Abusers | Defend Innocence. The issue is sensitive and complicated.) (Also I’m not going to argue whether SJ was sexually abused or not – that’s a whole other post. (which probably won't happen)) There is a serious question to be asked as to what level of personal responsibility can be taken by someone whose life shows a pattern of crime. Again, a very relevant real-life question people have argued about extensively for a very long time (e.g. reform vs punishment of criminals).
SJ’s life has been systematically stacked against him. His childhood taught him that having power excuses terrible behaviour. In adulthood, we see YQY systematically failing to teach him any better (and no shade on YQY – he had it pretty tough as well). Nobody shows any kind of deep understanding of his situation and his anxieties, because he is unable to communicate them without ruining his reputation (remember, slaves had few rights). We see his misbeliefs throughout the extra chapters – he is a bad person (for having natural responses to shitty situations), it is shameful for him to seek support and validation (toxic masculinity being harmful to men!), it’s better to be misunderstood than to be judged as weak. SQH suggests that after LQG’s death, SJ fully had a mental breakdown.
Trauma and mental health problems ruin people. (And btw, the stereotype that people with mental health problems are dangerous is extremely harmful.) That being said, being depressed can make you a pretty nasty person to the people around you. And I don’t just mean asking more of people sometimes, I mean the full-blown ‘knowing exactly what will hurt someone and doing it, out of spite’ kind of nasty. It’s a scary place to be in, that is extremely difficult to overcome without dedicated help. (And there’s strong evidence to suggest that adverse childhood experiences strongly correlate to health problems, e.g. mental health problems in later life. See the ACE studies.)
I think the question of how we judge SJ is so complicated, not least because we don’t actually know that much about him, but more so because actually what we’re all debating back and forth is a Very Hard Question. How do you judge someone like Nicky Cruz, gang member turned Christian Evangelist? Or even harder questions – if certain minority groups are statistically more likely to commit crimes, how do you deal with that? Sure, people who cause harm to others should be punished accordingly, but labelling them a villain and chucking them into prison causes mass injustice.
SJ is not a shining symbol of breaking class barriers. As an individual, he’s still a shitty person who did some shitty things. YQY is much better - he's a slave who became a sect leader and doesn't do much (much) wrong. But I think SJ does demonstrate that a better society for everyone (including SJ) leads to a better society for everyone (including LBH).
To ask other questions: Okay, LBH’s revenge was definitely excessive (I'm sorry but they got rid of torture as a punishment in the Han dynasty, okay. It's really not a good way to deal with things. Edit: they did not, but they stopped cutting off noses?) But what would have been an appropriate punishment? Could SJ, given the right circumstances, have found redemption? Was there a better path he could have walked?
Finally, a note on being a Bad Person vs being an asshole. Being rude is not nice. But it is not a crime either. Someone can be dislikeable and not really do anything wrong. I think confounding the issue is that SJ is both a Bad Person AND an asshole (in the most loving way possible). The former makes us want to call out aspects of the latter (oh look how he fought with LQG) (and yes, it’s explicit that it was usually SJ provoking him. Edit: it is not, see discussions below), but the latter is not a moral failing.
For example, had SJ not killed anyone, nor abused LBH, then he could probably get away with being an acerbic but maybe lovable figure. You can agree or disagree whether you want to be friends with him, but you probably wouldn’t complain about his existence. If he committed all of his crimes but was a wonderful person to chat with… he would be a JGY, and that’s a whole other can of worms.
Anyway, thank you for sticking with this monstrosity written far later in the night than is healthy. I would love to hear criticism/other takes!

hey, I'm a class 11 student. not sure if you're giving NEET this year or have given it in the past... but I'm in dire need of some advice either way.
long story short: i suck at physics and i had february and march before my 12th starts. feb went away in school exams and i didn't prepare well (dummy schl student). I really want to do a detailed revision for all chapters of physics at least (module questions ), but I'm not sure how to manage time.
My basics are clear but the major problem is that I've forgotten stuff from when I first revised. Tips please?
Hi! I'm a dropper, preparing for NEET again.
I think the most efficient way to solve your dilemma is to divide the portion you have to cover (be it past 11th syllabus for neet revision or ongoing 12th syllabus after starting 12th). Spread the chapters or even topics if you have that time, over days.
This way, for example: you're doing Electric Charges in class 12th, but at home, you're also covering a topic or two in addition to Electric Charges, like torque topic in Rotational motion. This way you're revising old topics while also staying in touch with the current topics.
And make good notes. Aesthetics are not important if you're going to spend a lot of time making them pretty. Notes are there to help in efficient revision. It's better if they're not shabby but no need to go calligraph on them, write them with enough imp info but concisely enough that you can flip through them.
And do not keep backlogs if you can help it.
Physics NCERT is more important than we give it credit for. You have time now so read through it and imagine the kind of questions that can be made from it.
Study GOC again. I know you said your basics are clear, but until one gets 100% at least 5 times consecutively in a GOC-based mock, one is not clear with the basics.
Pick one hour in a day, either in the morning first thing before your classes, or after coaching. And in that one hour, take a crack at one section of one chapter. Like, section A of your module has for eg 45 questions — start it at least. Put a timer, check how many Qs you did in that one hour and how many are correct. If you have any doubts, you clarify the doubts with your teachers in the class that day or the next day. This way, if you want to do more Qs, you'll be on a roll. But even if you're not, you still got stuff done. This time is a must. Enforce it.
Hope this helped, all the very best💛

Please infodump at me about dyslexia and its assorted related disorders.
Okay, so right off the bat, a disclaimer: I personally am not dyslexic. I do have ADHD, but I haven't personally struggled with dyslexia, dysgraphia, etc.
My partner (M, 30) was diagnosed young, like pre-k or kindergarten. Writing his name was a huge struggle and he often spelled it in a way that looked like a different name. His mother also has dyslexia and was able to get him help via Special Education programs, which he DESPISED.
Eventually even with help, he was barely able to finish homework and began to refuse to do it. Teachers at his school were very cruel to him, often calling him stupid, lazy, "not applying himself", etc.
Physical activities came naturally to him. He excelled in art, woodshop, ceramics, and karate. Reading anything, for class or for fun, stopped and when he had to read aloud, was humiliating. Teachers sometimes forced him to read aloud more often, hoping to humble him into working harder. When his grades declined sharply, he stopped trying all together and ended up falling into using drugs and alcohol at only 11 years old. When he finally graduated high school, it was by the skin of his teeth and really only was pushed through because of a flaw with the schools budget, which he then blackmailed the school with. Not really his proudest moment, but it happened. Obviously, the majority of his issues came from the school system failing him. Teachers were ill-prepared to deal with his learning disability, or outright vicious, basically weaponized incompetence.
When we met, I was in school for Early Childhood Education (which I didn't end up completing, teaching has rather lost its luster for me) and I noticed how embarrassed he was when attempting to sign his name or write pretty much anything. I asked if he'd be willing to let me help him practice, and eventually, he did.
As a 23 year old, re-learning how to write was really embarrassing for him, but I was patient and didn't criticize. I helped him find a place where he could laugh at himself and his spelling mistakes, not feel shame in it. We literally got a handwriting book from the dollar tree, and I dotted together the alphabet so he could trace it over and over. He still won't be doing calligraphy anytime soon, but his writing is legible now, and that's what matters.
He's failed out of a lot of college programs. He ends up taking on too much and is put on probation, then on academic suspension. He then appeals it, and the cycle starts again. His latest run is the most successful; CNC Engineering. He works with his hands and with computer programs. One of the things that has helped so much is having a study partner. He really struggles with reading comprehension, and when the letters constantly seem to move or change, it's even harder. When he has chapters to read for class, he will often have me read with him or sometimes to him, so he can visualize the material instead of concentrating so hard on what each word means.
He's also started reading for fun, which is a HUGE step for him. He loves Star Wars, and I had a set of junior novels about Anakin Skywalker as a padawan, which I offered to him. They're short, less condensed than a regular novel, and align with his interests, so it made for a much more enjoyable experience. He reads every night before bed now!
Generally, something like an IEP (Individualized Educational Plan) will be figured out for grade/high school, but when you are in college, that no longer applies. However, most colleges will have a department that can help with accommodations needed for classes. This can include an array of options, from tutoring and extensions to large-print textbooks or audio-visual adaptive equipment.
Side note to wrap this up, people often shit all over Comic Sans as a font, but the stylization actually can make it much easier for people with dyslexia to absorb! I encourage my partner to use comic sans when writing a paper, so he can find mistakes easier and then selecting a new font when he's finished.
Basically, patience and encouragement is key.

Chapter 11 [Read Here]
HEAVYWEIGHT a deancas boxing au by valleydean (emmbrancsxx0) read from beginning | playlist | ko-fi
SUMMARY: Brooklyn, 1927. The Golden Age of Boxing. Two years ago, light heavyweight champion Dean Winchester and heavyweight champion Castiel Novak had a secret affair. After a scandal tarnished Cas’ name and stripped him of his title, the two parted ways. Now, with a heavyweight tournament on the horizon, Dean aims to up his weight class so he can compete for the title. He finds unexpected competition when Cas comes out of retirement and returns to New York to fix his reputation. Upon their reunion, the two contenders learn that, outside of the ring, some bruises never really heal.
PREVIEW:
Dean grit his teeth and tried not to visibly react to the nails-on-a-chalkboard, screech-of-tires racket that was Michael Morningstar’s voice droning on to a room full of reporters. “And, of course, Mr. Winchester and the entirety of Winchester Gym are worthy opponents. Both Mr. Winchester and Castiel have held title belts in the past—albeit, Winchester’s in a lower division.”
Dean had to physically restrain himself from telling Michael, in front of the press and God and everyone, that a light heavyweight belt was better than a phony heavyweight belt.
“I think the two of them make a rather good match,” Michael continued, and the press seemed to eat it up. They hastily scribbled down notes on their pads, the rustle of pages being frequently flipped filling the room. They snapped photographs. “I think Saturday should make for an interesting bout, and I wish Winchester Gym the best of luck… But, I know who I’m putting my money on.” He clapped Cas, sitting beside him, on the shoulder and added quickly, “Figuratively, of course.”
The wink-wink, nudge-nudge got a few laughs from the room, like it had been a joke at all. Dean wasn’t so sure. The choice of words were a little too pointed.
He glanced down the long table at the front of the press room. He and Bobby were sitting on the right end of the table, Dean in the middle of his coach and Crowley, who was there to answer more general questions about the final eliminator match and the NBA’s plans for it. Cas was seated to Crowley’s left, Michael beside him.
Dean watched Cas swallow hard at Michael’s word choice. Briefly, his eyes flashed to their corners, to Dean. Dean tore his gaze forward again, not wanting to seem like this was affecting him. That any of it was: Michael’s bullshit, the uncomfortably tight tie around his neck, the body heat packed inside the room, the fact that Cas was sitting just a few feet away from him, just out of reach.
A little earlier, Crowley started the press conference by announcing that the fight would take place on the second Saturday of February, a week away. Tomorrow, the fight card would be in print, and hordes of people would swarm the box offices for their chance to get a ticket. And Dean was expected to sit there in his monkey suit, clean shaven and bathed for the first time in a week, and answer questions to build up public anticipation as if he wasn’t violently spiraling through emotions that ranged from fury directed toward the three men to his left to unfounded determination to beat them all at their own game.
The worst part was, Cas seemed just as bullheaded and petty. Barring the occasional slip ups, he kept his eyes forward and appeared hell-bent on ignoring Dean’s entire existence. He hadn’t even looked Dean in the eye at the start of the press conference when they amicably shook hands for the cameras, as if to assure the public, See? We don’t really want to pummel each other into bloody pulps. We’re great pals!
Cas had kept his handshake as loose as possible and pulled his hand away sooner than he should have, like Dean was dirty. But his palm had been warm with nervous perspiration, and it was enough to make Dean feel vindicated and self-assured that Cas was, in fact, wounded, too.
He was the bruise on Cas’ ribs; Cas was his broken jaw.

15 OC Questions
1. Are you named after anyone?
JACQUES: Pretty much everyone in my family is named after someone else. One of my middle names, Salim, is after my grandfather, who died before I was born. VIVIENNE: I'm not named after anyone, but 'Vivienne' was the name my parents picked out to use if my older sibling was a girl.
2. When was the last time you cried?
JACQUES: I don't cry. VIVIENNE: That's not true. JACQUES: [emphatically] I don't cry. VIVIENNE: He cried at our wedding. JACQUES: I did not. VIVIENNE: He did. And when our son was born. JACQUES: She cries all the time. VIVIENNE: [laughs] I'm an emotional person.
3. Do you have kids?
JACQUES: Just one, but— VIVIENNE: I've got my hands full with baby Hugo! JACQUES: I'd like to have another baby. Or two. What do you think, darling? VIVIENNE: We'll see.
4. Do you use sarcasm?
VIVIENNE: That's not really my style... JACQUES: Nah, if she's being mean she just does it straight up. VIVIENNE: [laughs] Jacques! JACQUES: I love it, though. I wouldn't have it any other way.
5. What's the first thing you notice about people?
VIVIENNE: Oh, I don't know. Hair color? Eye color? You know, physical stuff. Things like that. JACQUES: I just try to size them up, if I could take them in a fight. VIVIENNE: [laughs] He's kidding. That's a joke. JACQUES: You don't know that.
6. What's your eye color?
JACQUES: We both have brown eyes. VIVIENNE: You're supposed to say my eyes are beautiful, babe. JACQUES: Her eyes are beautiful. VIVIENNE: Thank you.
7. Scary movies or happy endings?
VIVIENNE: I love happy endings. We both do. JACQUES: [nods] She hates being scared.
8. Any special talents?
VIVIENNE: Jacques is an internationally-ranked alpine skier. He won medals in all the youth divisions. JACQUES: She used to sing.
9. Where were you born?
JACQUES: I was born at Breizh Medical Center, same as all my siblings. It's a royal tradition. VIVIENNE: I was born at home, in Nordienne, on the west coast.
10. What are your hobbies?
VIVIENNE: Isn't this the same question as before? JACQUES: Yeah. I ski, she sings.
11. Have you any pets?
VIVIENNE: [laughs] I'll let him answer that. JACQUES: We just adopted a kitten. We named it Frank, before we realized it was a girl. VIVIENNE: Now her name is Frankie.
12. What sports do you play/have played?
VIVIENNE: Not many people know this, but I was a champion kickballer, back in the day. JACQUES: Nobody wants to hear about that. VIVIENNE: [laughs] JACQUES: I started focusing on my skiing career pretty young, but before that, I did all kinds of stuff. I was a really big hockey player, but my parents said it was too violent. So they made me switch to non-contact sports, like swimming and skiing. But I was always better at skiing, so.
13. How tall are you?
JACQUES: I'm 6'2'' (188 cm) VIVIENNE: People think I'm short, but I'm not. I'm 5'7'' (170 cm). [laughs] He's a giant, he makes me look short!
14. Favorite subject in school?
VIVIENNE: I loved school. I loved all of my classes, but if I had to pick a favorite...history, maybe? Or literature. I loved chemistry, too, but I think that the humanities were always my best subject. I loved calc, too, but— JACQUES: My favorite subject was gym.
15. Dream job?
JACQUES: Professional athlete. It still might happen. VIVIENNE: I'm living it, aren't I? It's hard to imagine doing anything else.

Ability
Lots of flexibility in both physical and mental strength
In the middle of a match, even when Atsumu suddenly decided to challenge Karasuno’s “freak quick,” Osamu immediately responded. He has the talent to calmly watch the pace of the game, no matter what the flow, and still maintain his flexibility.

Personality
Seemingly boundless [open?], but also stubborn [tricky words here, not sure about this]
Osamu is often compared to his twin Atsumu. Though Osamu has a calmer and steadier personality, he still hates to lose and is simply better at conducting himself than Atsumu. Sometimes he’s even more stubborn than his brother.

Influences (those who influenced him)
Miya Atsumu: someone to share in his anger and laughter [the word used here implies joint ownership 🥺]
Osamu says that it isn’t “trust” or “faith” that he has in his brother. Instead, there is something more than trust that comes from the sharing of time. [y’all this is adorable]

2013: Demonstrating his super combination plays together with Atsumu.
In the match with Karasuno, he showed smooth setups and good coordination, so it was said that “even if you manage to contain Miya Atsumu, his twin Osamu will cover for him.” He showed a strong presence in the team’s plays with skills such as improvisation and defense.
“I’m frustrated that I’m not more frustrated.” (Chapter 279)

Summary: In which the Scamanders write a lot of letters; Uncle Hesiod is effectively blackmailed by every single member of Newt’s family (including Newt himself); Theseus shows every shade of who he is and who he will become; and Newt and his father have a bit of a “glow-up”, as the kids say in the year of our lord 2023. (Click for relatable Newt & Theseus meme.)
Also, 11-year-old Newt dropping truths: “I know I annoy people, Uncle Hesiod, but I think all creatures must be met with a baseline level of compassion, and I wonder if I am sometimes not afforded that because I am different.”

Helios Scamander to Rowan Scamander
Dear Rowan,
Wanted to let you know that Newt’s day at the Ministry was rather awful. It sounds like he comported himself reasonably well, while Hesiod—on the other hand—behaved beastly. I expect we’ll be dealing with the damage for a week or so. No “fairies”, per se, but he’s gone a bit more quiet than usual, so I’m giving him the day with Theseus and his projects to see if that helps.
All that being said, Newt is—strictly speaking—physically all right, so there’s absolutely no need to worry on that front. (No doxy disasters or broken limbs, thank Merlin.) However, you and I will need to have a good long talk, I’m afraid. Make some decisions about the nature of our own relationship with Hesiod and my family generally, as well as revisit more realistic plans for Newt’s future. And then also, on quite a more basic level, we must contend with the now (while somehow not reinforcing the mess Hesiod has dumped into our laps—he planted some rather upsetting ideas in Mud’s fertile little head). Nevertheless, our son went on a bit of a solitary nighttime wander after, more or less, lying to me by omission… So that’s obviously behaviour that must be addressed. I’ve just absolutely no clue how to do it.
Anyway - I’ll be bringing him home tomorrow after work. (And yes — Theseus and I have both enchanted him to within an inch of his life. If he so much as sneezes before we’re back in Derbyshire, we’ll know it.) T has requested to come along. I shall tell you all the details in person, as I’ve got my hands surprisingly full on the one with an enraged 19-year-old who still thinks I can’t tell when he’s scheming; and, on the other, with an 11-year-old, who apparently requires magnificently compelling evidence just to convince him to eat his damn breakfast.
With love,
Helios

Helios — So sorry to hear it went horribly but happy to know he mostly behaved(?). Unsurprised he fled the flat if upset, though still unacceptable. (How in the world did he get past you, though?) Must admit, am quite worried without details, esp. if T is concerned enough to leave training. Floo chat, please? Or at least summarise? Regarding breakfast: If you move whatever N is working on to left of his plate and then push plate twd him, he’ll typically eat w/out realising he’s doing it. (But thank him when he finishes, so he notices he’s done the routine—we don’t want him starving at Hogwarts…!) Please give both our boys my love.

Letter
Helios Scamander to Hesiod Scamander
Dearest brother,
I’ve been made aware that Newt’s visit to the Ministry yesterday did not go the way either of you had hoped. Certainly, I heard the tale from Theseus who had had to wrangle it from Newt in fits and starts, but the boy keeps incredibly detailed notes about creatures or interactions that fascinate, inspire, or confound him; and I’d assume he’s classed yours as confounding. I’ll be sending him to the grocer at some point, during which time I plan to unashamedly steal his journal and read all about it myself. So you may rest assured the truth shan’t be twisted by the party line. (That’s a Muggle invention, Hesiod. Quite novel. Not that you would know.)
So, here is the heart of it, brother:
I did not think I needed to make this clear as I’ve already done so in the past… But I do not need your assistance in rearing my son. I have appreciated your efforts to show interest and befriend him this past year, but I’m afraid I will be putting a stop to that, as well. You will not lay hand or wand on him. You will not reprimand him. You will not disclose information—to him or anyone else—that Rowan and I have kept to ourselves for a reason. You will bring any and all concerns directly to me instead of breaking the heart of a child. Furthermore, Newt will be doing any future career preparation with myself or with Rowan; and you are not to even speak to him without one of us present.
Finally… Newt has requested he be allowed to write you an apology for his behaviour—he is a far better man than me, because I didn’t intend to make him do that—as well as “tell [you] some thoughts”. As Newt’s not typically one for telling anyone thoughts of any sort if they’re not specifically about animals, I’m hardly going to discourage him... However, because we will be using this as an opportunity to practice letter-writing and grammatics, I expect it may take a few days, as his Mum and I are both busy through Saturday.
A word of warning: Theseus has just left the flat with a look on his face that usually means trouble, so I do hope you enjoy the visit.
Your loving brother,
Helios
P.S. - Please send any mail beginning tomorrow evening to the Derbyshire address.

Rowan — Thanks for suggestion. Breakfast eaten. (Who knew earthworm digestive systems were so compelling.) Regarding floo: Can’t while N’s around. But he’s more chipper now, so I’ll try to have T take him out for chips at tea.
The summary is that N repeatedly spoke out of turn + H rather severely punished him. Please don’t discuss in detail w N until home. T + I are handling it delicately and T’s off to MOM right now so there may be nothing of H left for you to worry about, anyway

Fireflies Over The Wall - Chapter 11
Relationship: The Bell Keeper & Meiri (Original character)
Summary: "The troll brought with herself, every night without a fault, a baby.
Every night, she placed it upon the grass, and pointed upwards, showing her baby the stars and constellations. Showing her baby the fireflies.
Holding it tight. Cuddling with it. Making sure it saw the beauty the world had to offer. He had never considered himself a sentimental man. Yet this image, for some reason, never failed to make him return home feeling something gaping and void inside of himself.
Every one of his former coworkers must have returned to their families.
Who would Edmund return to when he could work no more?
What would give him a reason to get out of bed when the fireflies were no longer enough?"
An OC's origin story as well as a Bell Keeper character study, because this character is much more fascinating than I'd been giving him credit for.
Notes: Title from ‘Monster’ by dodie
Many thanks to @blaithnne who taught me that you can add another - to the - and make it a –. No, it wasn’t obvious to me. Leave me alone 😭
Chapter title: I’ve said my speech through sharpened teeth
Read it on ao3
For all that had been said, not a lot of ‘change’ had gone on in their lives. Edmund still worked as a bell keeper, though there were less and less of his colleagues every day, he still didn’t go out much even if he was putting an effort – reluctantly, but he was – into connecting with more people outside of just Kaisa, and he still thought cucumber sandwiches were a perfectly acceptable lunch. Meiri still popped around whenever she felt like to play and talk (further proving that the orphanage crew really couldn’t stop her from doing anything at all), still slowly evolved towards opening up, and still denied vehemently the possibility of white bread with scarce vegetables being a nutritious meal.
And while on the topic of continuity, the troll mother and baby still came to that same spot near the wall almost every night. A good deal of mushrooms had grown around, which meant that now Edmund was even more helpless not to smile when he watched the stone child play with them. They had changed, though. The kid was learning how to utter sounds, now; mostly variations of ‘ah’ or ‘bah’ that he’d hear them say it every now and then, making him come to the strange realisation that he was being witness to the growing process of a creature he was supposed to be protecting the city against.
Ah, well. At least he could say he had two kids in his life, one way or another.
It was only a shame that he only had that to entertain him during the night. The days remained as boring as ever, considering there were no trolls, no fireflies, and Meiri was generally at school. She wasn’t one to ditch class, and even if she were, she probably knew he wouldn’t endorse it and go somewhere else should she ever decide to slip away.
Which was why Edmund was so startled – almost to the point of falling off the wall, mind you, a situation exclusive to when the girl popped up without a notice – when he heard his cabin’s door bang on an early Saturday morning when she should probably have been on her science program activities. Or something. He still didn’t really understand how those worked.
No one was around; someone very rarely was. So Ed didn’t think three times about going down there to check what was going on, since it could only possibly be Meiri causing that noise. She was the only one who he had ever given a key to.
He did, of course, think twice, because if only Meiri had it, then it could very well be a burglar and even if he was confident he could win in a physical fight, he’d still rather avoid it; he wasn’t in the mood. But also because if it really was Meiri, then chances were she was not in a good mood and it would be playing with fire to try to talk to her depending on how true that was.
So, after a moment, away from his post he went to practise some freestyle malabarism with torches.
His door had been closed, but left unlocked. After the way it had been banged so loudly that he had been able to hear it, that had been the second sign that something was wrong. Meiri would usually lock the door after coming inside if she knew it had been locked before. He walked in making as little noise as possible, not seeing anyone on his couch, trying to reach his kitchen counter, looking disapprovingly at his fridge contents, nor perusing his bookshelves. Sign that something was wrong number three.
“Go away!” Said an obviously distraught voice from his second floor. Sign that something was wrong number four.
Or, well, proof that something was wrong at this point, he supposed.
“Meiri, if you want to be alone, I can leave you to yourself. But only if you come down here and promise to stay here while I’m away. There are cutting things up there, I’m not leaving on your own with them.”
After they’d come to their agreement, Edmund had cleared the first floor of most anything that could bring harm to a six – now seven – year old child. Save for cutlery, of course, it’d be ridiculous to take those to his bedroom, and he was counting on his cupboard’s height to gatekeep them from her for the near future. But he hadn’t actually done anything to make sure they were inaccessible should Meiri ever go to the second floor. Which now felt like an oversight.
“Fuck off!”
The months that had passed had brought more opportunities for Meiri and Kaisa to interact. Some of the appeal that the witch had held in her eyes seemed to have faded, being switched into suspicion every time she failed to hide her magic and annoyance every time she failed to hide her idiocy. But the connection between a young girl and the cool older woman they’d picked as a role model was no fickle thing, so even if Edmund managed the colossal effort to not swear in front of her, it was all in vain and she’d picked up a thing or two. Edmund walked towards the ladder with as much dignity as he could manage while being told off in his own house by a kid a quarter of his size.
“That’s no way to talk, young miss! I see you’re upset but there are better ways to handle this.”
He climbed up the ladder, needing only to climb three steps until he could catch a glimpse of the girl. She was curled up beside his bed in her typical distress position, but lifted her head to glare at him with red eyes as the creak of the ladder denounced his approach. There were no tears running down her face, but that didn’t make her look any less upset, her mouth curled back and the lines of her face sharp.
“Leave me alone!” She snapped as Edmund raised himself into the second floor, not standing up since he’d loom over her but rather sitting on his heels with some two metres between the two of them. He was dangerously close to the edge of the platform; an unforeseen imbalance could tip him to fall backwards into what would be a very ugly fall. But Edmund didn’t think Meiri would feel comfortable if he got any closer. She already didn’t.
“Meiri, talk to me. What happened?”
“None of your business!” Was the angry answer to his levelled question. “None of it is!”
Now, Edmund had never considered himself the most patient of men. Nor the calmest. But even though her words were clearly meant to sting, they couldn’t hit their mark. Not when he knew her so well. Not when he could see that she was only a child, too young to properly process everything that was going on around and inside her. Especially not when he could see her eyes, staring at his defiantly. Angry, but not in a cold way. Like an animal lashing out.
Her voice kept raising in volume, and he wasn’t sure if it was intentional or if she’d just lost control over that in her anguish.
“You’re always bothering me! You keep asking me stuff you can’t possibly care about, and telling me things that I don’t care about!” Her shouts rang loudly in the cabin, echoes of a pain he thought he’d never properly understand. “You’re just a sad man who has to talk to the first freak who shows up on his porch because nobody else wants to!”
Edmund nodded slowly, almost imperceptibly. He had no idea what one was supposed to do in that situation, other than the very basic (if often forgotten) guideline that you don’t lash out at literal children no matter how pissed you are. Surprisingly enough, he didn’t actually feel mad at her, not in the slightest. It was as if his worry had overtaken any other feelings he might have. Considering the only parameter he had to dealing with similar situations was trying to calm down actual angry animals, he decided that following that logic was as good of a conduct as any. Which meant keeping calm and not moving fast.
“And why wouldn’t I want to talk to you?” He spoke normally, but compared to Meiri’s current tone it sounded like a whisper to their ears.
“Shut up! I know what your deal is.” His concern was momentarily exchanged for curiosity as Edmund hoped someone would at last be able to say what the hell was up with him, before he remembered that a seven year old was probably not where his philosophical answers were going to come from. “I know you’re just sad and alone and nobody likes you! I know your life is crap and that's why you put up with me. I know you’re only sitting there because you have nothing better to do!”
She looks at him expectantly. Waiting for a fight. Whether she was challenging, expecting, hoping, he didn’t know. But she definitely was waiting for it. Which was too bad, he’d have to disappoint her. Because her words were sharp, yes. Not careless, but carefully chosen to attack every one of his weak points which she’d gotten to know during their time together. Unfortunately for her, he had gotten to know her just as well as she had him, and he could see through it. He could see that the worst of it wasn’t directed at him. He could see, in fact, that none of it really was.
After moments of silence, during which she only seemed to get more upset and confused judging by her miserable expression, he softly sighed.
“Go on.”
Meiri blinked, clutching her legs closer to her chest, preparing for whatever the conclusion of this trap would be. She knew what to do with anger. She knew what to do with crying. She knew what to do with pointing fingers and accusations that she wasn’t even trying. With this strange request, though, she hadn’t the slightest clue. Her mouth opened and closed wordlessly a couple of times before she could articulate a single word.
“What?”
Edmund didn’t smile. He was tired, and he was worried. Not only that, but he knew that even if punishing her wasn’t acceptable (and not even his place, obviously) the impression that her own behaviour was ideal or something to be repeated at will wasn’t one he should give. Instead, he kept on looking at her eyes while her anger waned and she began attempting to set her gaze anywhere else without looking like she was backing away, maintaining his best poker face.
Guess the card games at The Salty Maiden served some purpose, after all.
“Go on, firefly, get it all out.” He said, slowly so as to be sure he was making himself understood. “Nothing you say will change how much I care for you. So let it out. If you hold these ugly things inside yourself they will only make you feel bad. It’s okay.”
He might as well have told her he was going to have her sleep outside the wall with hungry wolves and lurking trolls by her reaction. Edmund didn’t think he’d ever seen her – or anyone else, for that matter -- look so terrified and wretched. The crying restarted, though now of a different kind; tears flowed freely down her face, which he couldn’t really see since it was immediately hidden, her forehead resting on her knees. Edmund sighed, and almost sat back on the floor before realising there was no floor behind him and he’d just take a two metre high fall. He scooted forward just enough to sit cross legged, but no closer, feeling helpless to do anything but look dejectedly at the sobbing girl in his bedroom.
Maybe this was a mistake. He had only seen her cry like this once before, and both times had been because of him. They were currently sitting in the house’s single bedroom, which she would have to share with him if she ever came to live with him. His futile bits of random information on How To Act Around Children combined with his apparently rancid instincts had led her to a breakdown after she’d come to him already in crisis. Who was he kidding?
True, she’d been the one to come here in the first place, apparently trusting it as a safe space on a bad day. And he didn’t think his reaction had been damaging to her, all in all. But it was hard to know. Too many things could hurt a child. He didn’t want to be one of them.
And yet, she came, mused his mind as he slouched, doing nothing other than watching her hopelessly for a couple of moments.
And yet, she came, whispered his mind as he climbed down the stairs, as silently as possible.
And yet, she came, shouted his mind as he dialled the number he had already memorised by now on the black phone by his door.
And yet, she came, cried his mind when he hung up, knowing the conversation had been too silent for her to hear over her sobbing. And his mind continued the cry up until the moment his door was knocked at.
At that point, Meiri’s crying had already subsided; Edmund had placed a glass of water near her some time before, but he highly doubted she had so much as looked at its direction. She remained in the same spot and position, though, meaning she didn’t get a visual of what was happening at first but could definitely listen.
“Thank you for calling.” Terry said, looking almost as defeated as Edmund did. “The school already had and we were already on our way, but everyone was very relieved to be certain she was here.”
Edmund nodded. He wasn’t sure he could do much else. Before he could try to reason with himself about whether it would be better if he went to get her or if Terry did, the blonde had already entered his house and headed to the ladder. He instantly knew that was the wrong move.
“I don’t want to go!” Meiri shouted with apparently preserved lung potency, even if the sound was raspy due to her scratched throat. The man hadn’t even climbed the ladder fully, and he sighed.
“Meiri, you need to.” Terry argued gently. “Edmund needs his house, dear.”
Even if he couldn’t see her, Ed could imagine what she must look like, trying to curl herself even tighter, squeezing herself against the side of his bed, unable to back away any further.
He heard a sniff. A dry one. She probably wanted to cry again, but had run out of tears.
“Meiri.” Edmund said with the warmest voice he could, even if it came laced with exhaustion. “You need to be somewhere that actually makes you feel better. I don’t want you to stay just to feel worse. But if you want to, that’s between the two of you. I have to go back to my post.”
With the girl finally having scooted closer to the edge of the second floor, Meiri’s head finally became visible as Edmund headed for the door, trying his best to pretend like he was remotely interested in actually returning to work. But he had to. He had a feeling they’d never get anywhere with him in there, because he’d correct Terry every time the man implied she had to leave for Edmund’s sake, and he wouldn’t even feel bad for it.
“Wait!” She cried, almost throwing the caretaker off balance with how quickly she’d arrived at his side. “Can I come back?”
Edmund sighs, gripping the doorknob a little too tightly.
“You always know the answer to that, Meiri.”
He walked away and really hoped that the troll family didn’t show up that night.

You got your soulmark when you were very young. You knew who you hoped had left their mark but since they never said anything to you, you resigned yourself to a life of bitter unrequited love. As much as you wanted to meet your soulmate you knew after all these years they must not want to meet you. Though the mark never faded some days you wished it would. Especially after meeting Billy.

☆ Eddie POV that takes place within chapter 5 ☆
Why isn’t she getting up? He called our names. Eddie got up from his desk and offered you his hand. He guided you up to the front of the room. Is she nervous? He was worried about you all through giving the presentation. Once it was finished he felt so bad for doing everything but you had froze like a deer in headlights. What was he supposed to do? He leaned in the desk over to you and whispered to try and make you feel better.
You seemed shocked at his words but you finally managed to say something, “But then I would have missed that lovely performance! Besides Eddie, It was you who did all the work! You planted them, watered them, and did all the music testing. It’s me who didn’t do anything. You’re amazing Eddie! You worked so hard, you deserve to take all the credit on this one.”
Oh shit. He felt his cheeks getting warm. He couldn’t hide it this time. He was blushing. Pulling his hand across his jawline hiding a laugh he came to a startling realization, I’m so fucked.
He didn’t even try to hide his shameless staring after that. If anyone asked him to take a test on what the other students in that biology class were presenting he’d fail. The rest of the class he couldn’t take his eyes off you and he’s pretty sure you noticed. The longing gazes continued into the lunchroom. Does she know how gorgeous she is? That prick of a boyfriend better be telling her everyday. Dustin wasn’t kidding, he’s a real piece of work that one.
“Yeah Lucus has practice tonight but we could still do that,” Dustin and Mike talked and made evening plans while eating lunch. Eddie heard them speaking but wasn’t aware of the words coming out of their mouths, or that his own had opened and started speaking.
“What do you think she’s reading?” When they all laughed he realized he’d said it out loud, Christ I’m losing my mind. I don’t think I can handle much more of this.
Dustin smacked his shoulder, “Buddy you’ve got it so bad. Take it from me, someone with success in these sorts of matters, Talk. To. Her!”
“But,” he curled his lip when Dustin cut him off.
“No buts! Listen, if you really don’t want to tell her that dosen’t mean you can’t be friends with her right?”
Eddie’s eyes lit up when you waved at him with a smile. Yeah I guess just because she’s got a boyfriend doesn’t mean I can’t talk to her in school. Friends is better than the hell I’ve been putting myself through. He grinned at you and turned back to the group.
“Alright Henderson you win, I’ll talk to her.”
The rest of the day he felt like his heart might explode. The thought of actually looking you in your eyes and telling you that he wanted to be friends again sounded way better in his head. The afternoon classes went by way too fast. He still hadn’t decided when or how he wanted to try and talk to you but he knew that if he waited any longer he’d chicken out. I don’t think I can ask her to meet me somewhere in person. I think I need to leave it up to her where she doesn’t feel pressured. Yeah yeah! If I leave her a note and she doesn’t show up well…I have my answer. Ok. The final bell rang signaling the end of another school day. Here we go.
He scribbled a note telling you to meet him in the woods at the picnic table he tells his customers to meet him at. He knew no one would be there and you’d have privacy.
He hauled ass out of the classroom getting yelled at by several teachers but he made it to your locker before you and stuck the note to the metal door before running away. He was pacing outside the hellfire room when Dustin walked up.
“What’s up man? Did you talk to her?”
Eddie shook his head, “I left her a note on her locker telling her to meet me in the woods.”
Dustin’s face flattened. He deanpaned in Eddie’s direction, “Wow. Way to go not giving super creepy serial killer vibes Eddie. You nailed it.”
“I didn’t know what else to do? The thought of asking her to meet me somewhere in person was just too much. I panicked! Shit, I didn’t put my name on the note! What do I do now?”
“Jesus calm down!” Dustin held him by the shoulders.
“You want her in your life right?” Eddie nodded.
“You care about her right?”
He closed his eyes and nodded harder, “More than anything!”
“Then you have to tell her. Just go,”
Eddie’s fingers reached up and clawed at his scalp, “and what if she tells me to go to hell? I mean it’s what I deserve for pushing her away for so long but fuck man I don’t think I can handle that rejection.”
Dustin laughed, “You’re soulmates stupid! Indulge me for a moment if you will. Show me your mark.” Eddie went wide eyed. He made it his personal mission to make sure no one ever saw it. He wore his leather jacket everyday and even at home he would cover it up with the sleeve of his hellfire shirt. He tightened his face muscles together in an uncomfortable grimace and looked carefully in each direction of the hallway. Am I really about to do this? What if she walks up suddenly and sees it? His eyes rolled back and before he could convince himself otherwise he pulled off his jacket and showed Dustin the bats on his right arm.
“Bats? Really,” Dustin teased.
“Hey, she gave me the mark first, ask her why it’s shaped like this!”
Dustin smirked, “Maybe I will!”
Eddie quickly pulled his jacket back, “You do and you can kiss your spot as my replacement goodbye.”
“Has it ever occurred to you that I don’t want to DM? Maybe I like being a player,” he shook his head, “We are getting off topic! My point is, it’s still there! When did you say you found out?”
Eddie stiffened, “I didn’t.”
Dustin waved his hand with a look of impatience, “You wanna elaborate?”
“It's been…a while.”
“If it’s been a while and the mark hasn’t faded then that’s all the answer you need! If she didn’t want anything to do with you the mark would have started to fade. You both are putting yourselves under unnecessary stress by purposely staying apart.”
She’s not doing anything, this is all my fault. Am I really causing her stress? He got lost in his head for a minute, “Am I really hurting her by not saying anything? I always thought that if I kept my mouth shut she’d be better off not knowing. That way she could move on and find someone better.”
Dustin’s eyes softened, “You are the someone better Eddie! Shit, stop being so down on yourself, you’re not the satanist, cult leader everyone thinks you are! Go talk to her,” he checked his watch, “She’s probably waiting for you!”
Crap! How long have I been standing here? He pulled Dustin into a tight hug, “Thanks nerd!” He ran as fast as he could through the empty halls towards the woods.

BNHA Observations, speculations and assorted info: U.A. High School (Part 1: Infirmary)
So, in order to write my fic, I spend much time observing canon scenes, comparing the manga and the anime version, take note of details, translations and info in them as well as finding out how are some things called.
Since what I noticed/speculated/found out can be of use for other fic authors I thought to share as well.
Resources:
Chap. 7 “Costume Change?” (服着よう? Fuku Kiyō?) Chap. 11 “Bakugo's Starting Line” (スタートライン、爆豪の Start Line, Bakugō no) Chap. 21 “In Each of Our Hearts” (各々の胸に Onōno no Mune ni) Chap. 206 “Match 3 Conclusion” (第3セット決着 Daisan Set Ketchaku)
Ep. 6 “Rage, You Damn Nerd” (猛れクソナード Takere Kuso Nerd) Ep. 8 “Bakugo's Start Line” (スタートライン、爆豪の。 Sutāto Rain, Bakugō no.) Ep. 13 “In Each of Our Hearts” (各々の胸に Onōno no Mune ni) Ep. 96 “Match 3 Conclusion” (第3試合決着 Daisan Shiai Ketchaku)
OBSERVATIONS, SPECULATIONS AND ASSORTED INFO:
As all the Japanese schools U.A too has an infirmary or helath room (保健室 ‘Hoken-shitsu’), though the English version prefers to call it Nurse's office.
There aren't many pictures about in the manga and the anime, as it's a place that appears only 4 times though the story but they're enough to give us an idea of how it is.
THE ONE IN CHARGE OF THE INFIRMARY
Youthful Heroine: Recovery Girl (妙齢ヒロイン リカバリーガール Myōrei Heroine Recovery Girl), real name Shūzenji Chiyo (修善寺治与) is in charge of the U.A. infirmary.
Tumblr media
Chapter 4 refers to her as ‘Kango kyōyu’ (看護教諭 “Nurse teacher”) where normally, in Japan, nurses in charge of the infirmary are called ‘Yōgo kyōyu’ (養護教諭 “Health Teacher”) or ‘Hoken-shitsu no sensei’ (保健室の先生 “Infirmary Teacher”) and this person provides first-aid treatment for injuries, illnesses, etc. of students and monitor their physical and mental health through medical examinations, health observations and so on. Recovery Girl is likely raised to the rank of “Nurse teacher” because she also has a nursing licence and provides much more serious nursing care to the students than just first aid help in fact during the sport festival, when Midoriya is injuried she says she did surgery on him.
Also, in Japan the person in charge of the infirmary is part of the teacher body and, in some cases, can teach to classes, though this would risk leaving the infirmary empty.
INFIRMARY SIGN
To point out the place is an infirmary, outside the door there's a sign saying so.
Tumblr media
We don't really get to see the corridor in which the infirmary is but it likely looks like one of the many corridors in U.A. with the rooms on one side and giant windows on the opposite one. Actually, even if it's not said, this could very well be the corridor that lead to the infirmary as the view from the window seems the right one and it would make sense for the students to go visit Midoriya but as it's not clearly stated this is just my speculation.
Tumblr media
DOOR (FROM THE INSIDE)
The door is a sliding one. In the manga there's either a glass on it or something attached to it but the same can't be said for the anime. Ironically while in the manga the door opens in one direction in the anime it opens in the opposite one. In the anime it's shown that the window on the corridor is so clear and large you've the impression the door opens on the outside.

WINDOW (FROM THE INSIDE)
The infirmary has a large window on the wall opposite to the one of the door. In the manga we can't see out of it, but in the anime treetops are visible, hinting the infirmary is placed on one of the upper floors of the school.
Tumblr media
INSIDE
Inside there's Recovery Girl's desk with a deskchair as well as two infirmary beds and a stool for patients or visitors to sit on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On Recovery Girl's desk there's the screen of a pc but I can't see any keyboard. Possibly it's a touchscreen. She also seems to have books on her desk.
Tumblr media
Manga and anime seem to more or less agree on the design of the room for the left wall. Things change when we move to the right wall, as it wasn't shown in the manga early on and so the anime had no references when they drew the first series and had to make up the tiny glimpses of it we see and then decided to stick with what they made up. The result is the anime has a room with less space than the manga and a closet in it.
Tumblr media
We can also sign a sign which I think is the one to check eyesignt, what should be an instrument to measure height and a message board.
Tumblr media
The anime shows us there's also a clock on the wall and a speaker.
Tumblr media
Also, the anime shows the recycle bin.
Tumblr media
OUTSIDE
In the manga we aren't shown where the infirmary is located. The anime, showing the treetops from the windows, seems to imply it's on a upper floor. This image from which ballons of what Recovery Girl is saying come out from the last floor seems to imply that's where the infirmary is but it's likely not the case or it would be in such a high place they wouldn't be able to see the treetops. But well, this is just me, I can't say for sure.

things i did for school today
- finally organised my study materials and made a study plan for the next two months (i am kind of overwhelmed by the amount of things i have to do but i’ll take it one day at a time and everything will be ok)
- studied physics with my friend and understood a chapter i did not understand before
- finished my 3D model homework, i just have to convert it to pdf and send it to my professor for a final evaluation
- took some notes for architecture class
- found study materials for a really complicated class about technology and i am both really happy about the information in there and really terrified of how many pages i’ll have to read through :’)
selfcare moments
- laughing with my friend about how dumb we both are regarding physics
- talking to my other friend
- going to get my packages (finally some comfortable clothes from vinted!)
- having a nice cup of tea
- listening to good music
- cleaned my room!!!
what i’m grateful for
- my boyfriend
- my friends
- motivation to study
- my school’s open hours (it’s open till midnight even during weekends!)
- warm clothes
- music
- my roommates (we decided to do secret santa and i’m so excited about it<3)
tasks i’d like to do tomorrow
- study physics (again lol)
- draw some sketches for my studio project
- either take some notes for classes where i’m falling behind or start my essay for descriptive geometry
- go grocery shopping
how i felt today
well today was weird but a good kind of weird. i was all over the place and at times i felt so nervous about all the things i have to do, especially because i feel like i’m running out of time (november coming so unexpectedly made me look back at what i’d done si far and i realised i wasn’t all that productive as i probably should have been). but i met up with my friend (who i feel might become my best friend pretty soon! she’s just so amazing and we laugh a lot and the vibe is just so warm and nice) and studied and i’m also spending the night with my boyfriend so it’s not all that bad in the end. remember to cherish the people in your life, they can help make the burden of living life a little bit easier to bear🫶🏻
🎧tonight is the night i die - palaye royale
✍🏻if i loved you less, i might be able to talk about it more
peaceeee aaaand looooveeee

It's Been a Rough Day, But a Good Day
Daily Reflection Thursday, 11 January, 2024
Things I'm Grateful For:
My accounting instructor said she would personally recommend me for that co-op if it's approved. I honestly think she's the best teacher I've had at this point, and I am grateful for everything extra she's doing for me.
Highlights:
I finally got through all those notes for accounting, halfway through the class. At least I have a week or so before I have to worry about doing even more, though.
My graphics card came in and I got it installed, so I get to have some fun on the weekend and play games.
Challenges:
There were a handful of issues with Purolator, but it turned out half of the problem was that my parents are idiots. Doesn't mean I didn't keep the complaint about the "proof of delivery" picture being taken from inside the driver's truck, though.
D&D was a roller coaster in and of itself, and combined with the rolls on the site being shit (on a 20-sided die, when I have 20 rolls in a row that were 1-5, I was ready to just quit). Switched to my physical dice for the fight at the end though, and I was doing decently--not always super high, but all over the place is better than "couldn't hit a barn ten feet away with a fist-sized rock."
Emotions:
Really excited for that co-op opportunity, but afraid it won't work out for whatever reason.
The whole day was a roller coaster, I can't wait to just go to bed and get it done and over with.
Today's To-Do List:
Complete
Finish copying those chapter 5 notes for accounting. This is a huge slide deck, and I finished off at 49/76 last night.
Incomplete
Math homework.
Chapter 5 practice exercises for Accounting.
Tomorrow's To-Do List:
Finish homework.
