(Vampire Story) Chapter One
Masterlist | Next Part
All characters depicted are 18+
----------------------------------------------------------------
The sound that you dread every morning has stirred you from your slumber for the first time this year. You quickly turned the ear piercing alarm off and rolled onto your side for a moment.
Bleh, why can't I just stay home...
Guess I'm grateful it'll be my last year of this...
You stretched as you stood up, yawning in the process. Today is currently your first day of senior year, and boy what a long one it's going to be. You sighed and decided on a quick shower before breakfast. Once finished with your shower, you went back to your room and slipped on whatever outfit seemed nice before heading downstairs.
Your (e/c) eyes scanned the fridge, and with seeing nothing of interest, you decided to just go with toast and some juice.
Ding.
Just as you sat down to eat, your phone went off. Seeing that you got a text from "🤡". You decided on waiting to text back because food. It dinged several more times, the messages either a variation of your name/nickname or just general spam. With a heavily exaggerated sigh, you unlocked your phone and all the messages got set to seen and you simply sent a "?" in response.
The phone started to ring and you waited a few rings before answering and setting it on the counter, putting it on speaker.
"Will you PLEASE just respond after the first message?! I don't want to go over there and break in to wake you up again!"
A male voice loudly spoke to you before a loud groan was heard. "I'm in the middle of eating-" He cut you off. "I dont CARE if you're eating you can still text back!" There was a moment of silence. "I'll be there 10. You better be ready."
And with that aggressive note, he hung up and you finished eating. Taking these ten minutes of freedom to clean up a bit. You still had a few minutes before he arrived and you decided since it was nice enough, you would wait out on the front porch. Soon enough, a bright silver car pulled into the front driveway and the driver's window rolled down as you walked over to it.
"Get in loser, we're going shopping." You smiled and got in the passenger side, setting your bag down between your legs before putting on your seatbelt. "Honestly school is really like a prison once you think about it." The driver rolled his eyes as he got back onto the road and drive you both to, uh, school...
---
Loud chatter filled the gym as all the students were trying to get their schedules for the year. You just got yours and looked at your classes, instantly regretting not taking gym when you were a freshman. With a sigh, you went to look for your taxi driver, only to see him already staring at you with a little group of gossip girls. You walked over to them and looked to your so called bestfriend.
"What's your first hour. Mines gym."
"Haha, unlucky."
"Yours is gym too isn't it."
His head hung low and he nodded. "Yea. It sure is..." You looked over both yours and his schedules, comparing classes, seeing that you shared only gym and maths together, not counting lunch. A shiver ran down your spine as you looked around. It felt like someone was staring at you and yeah, you were in a crowded highschool gym but it just felt... Off...
"There is so someone staring at you right now." One of the "gossip girls" said. "Yeah, a hundo percent." "I think it's that new exchange student." The two girls giggle as they continue to gossip to eachother.
"Andy, how the hell do you find people like that."
"Listen dude, they migrate towards me." He said holding his hands up. "But they are right, the exchange student has been staring at you since he's seen you. Kinda creepy." Andy mumbled the last part under his breath. You looked to where said exchange student was but he didn't seem to be staring anymore.
Maybe I offended him somehow..?
---Exchange Student P.O.V.--- (Earlier)
Dear gods he's the one. I just know it.
He watched as a (short/tall/etc.) male with (h/l) (h/c) hair made his way through the gym doors next to a tall blonde. He glared at the blonde for a moment but it was more of an observant glare than a mean one. He already had his schedule so he continued to watched the (h/c) as he tried to get through the crowd to get his own schedule.
The second the (h/c) male walked through the door he couldn't take his eyes off of him. He knew the other had noticed his lingering gaze but he had to look away the second that he saw the others eyes. They were a stunning shade of (e/c) and that was when he knew.
"Its him."
He mumbled out to himself, catching the attention of a student standing close by. "You good?" The other student asked. "Yes. I'm fine." The ravenette looked up to the other. "Darian, you?" A soft smirk was shot Darian's way. "Kai. Pleasure to meet someone like myself." Darian "tch'd" and looked away. "We'll talk at lunch. Meet me out by the cherry tree."
The first bell of the day rang, sending any lingering students to start their walk to class and any in gym to simply remain there.
---Main P.O.V.--- (Present)
"Right, since today is the first day, we will let all of you get acquainted with one another and you have till the end of the week to bring in a change or two of gym clothes." The male gym teacher called out to everyone. "This week will mostly be health work which is just paperwork but it's pretty easy." He called out again before stepping to talk with the female gym teacher about whatever.
You sighed and sat down on some of the extended bleachers, setting your bag next to you. Andy sat down on the other side of you and leaned back. "Dude, Mr. Exchange student is on his way over here." Andy said through gritted teeth. You looked to where the mentioned male was only to see him a few steps in front of you.
With a small smile, you greeted him. "Hi, I'm (Y/n). You're new here right?" He nods. "Kai, it's a pleasure to meet you." His mid-length black hair moved as he bowed to you slightly. You slipped your bag onto the floor in front of your feet, motioning for him to sit down which he accepted. "Could we get to know eachother better?" Kai asked with a smile. You nodded, "Sure, if your free, wanna go to the Cafe down the street?"
"That would be lovely. Do you mind showing me around a bit while we go there? I'm still new to the area so it would be appreciated." You smile and nod again. "Andy, you wanna come with us? I'll pay." Andy looked from his phone and shrugged. "Sure."
I was hoping we'd just go by ourselves but I suppose I'll put up with this for a while. If it means getting closer to him then I'll do it. Anything to achieve my goal.

hii congrats on 1.4k!! can i request 🔮 for male marauders and golden trio era? my pronouns are she/her, i’m gryffindor, i laugh in situations i shouldn’t be laughing at, i’m very friendly and i act the same around a person i know for 5 minutes and a person i know for years, i’m loud when talking, i’m too kind for my own sake, i get annoyed easily but everyone says i’m funny then, i get nervous easily especially around a person i like and i get especially loud then, i love nature and swimming and i love dancing but i’m really bad at it,, thank you!!
thank you so much! yes yes of course!
male marauders ship - james potter
when james first heard your laugh, he immediately fell in love. he was in detention and had heard your laugh from outside the classroom. you were walking through the halls w marlene and dorcas as you all had a free period. james turned his head and fell even more as he saw your face. he then realised it was you, gryffindor prefect and top of all your classes. sirius had always thought you were a know-it-all, but james thought you were funny and pretty and he was determined to get to know you better.
so after detention, he went to his house to find you. luckily, you were studying w remus and lily. he walked up to you all suave and gave you a little smirk, to which you reacted by just staring at him while sweating profusely. little did he know, you also liked him. but ofc he didnt know that, not yet, so his smile faltered and he gave you a warm, polite smile instead and said “hi, y/n. i’m james potter. we have potions and DADA together.” he held his hand out for you to shake and you stared at it for a good few seconds before laughing. youre like “y-you, you know my name? ohmygod, haha- WOW. s-sorry, i-i’m not usually this um, giggly. HAHA” and james just grins and says “no worries love. do you mind accompanying to hogsmeade this weekend” and youre like “… alright…” and james is sooo happy hehe. “it’s a date!” he exclaimed before running up to his dorm to find sirius to tell him the good news. the wait for the weekend was painful for both of you, but def worth it.
you met him at the gates, looking beautiful as usual. james complimented you like 100 timed in the first 5 minutes, you were grinning like a child who just got their christmas wish. you two strolled around the town, james ending up buying everything for you 💀. you open up to him pretty quickly and you two bounce from topic to topic seamlessly. at the end of the night, you two were at hog’s head and (ik this sounds like a muggle thing but shhh) they had karaoke night and lily and remus sung a duet, to which james pulled you up from your seat in surprise. at first you're confused and are like "wth???" and james is like "dance with me, darling!" and you're like "HAHA NO" and james frowns and asks why and you pull him close and say "i'm horrible at dancing, james. althought i will admit, i love it," you chuckle. and james is like "perfect! here, i'll teach you, m'kay?" and you're not so sure but yk james won't let up so you follow him to the dance floor.
he puts your arms around his neck and he puts his hands on the middle of your back, not too high, not too low, and you two start dancing. james at first is impressed and is like "you're not half bad, l/n." but he's spoken too soon bc you then begin to step on his feet as you two sway faster. and he's like "OW OW OW!" and you pull away from him and is like "ah im so sorry. i didn't mean to :((" and he just shrugs, "it's alright. no worries. here, lemme teach you". and he takes you in his arms again. "just follow my lead, okay. relax and just feel the music. if you panic, just stop, look at my feet, and regroup, m'kay?" and you nod tentatively and he smiles and you two start swaying. for the first 3 minutes, your eyes are at his feet, watching his and making sure you don't trip again and hurt his toes. and a few minutes later, you are dancing like a pro! (you step on his feet still... but only a few times so its not that bad hehe).
male golden trio ship - fred weasley
fred made smth blow up in hagrid's face (bless his soul) and the whole class went silent except for you. fred and george were laughing, but they were keeping it quiet while you were literally honking. your whole face gets hot with embarrassment as you realise you're the only one laughing and everyone is staring at you. you look down in shame at your desk as you feel everyone's judging eyes on you. well, not everyone is judging hehe. hargrid ends up taking 15 points from your house, 10 for the prank, 5 for you laughing (oops...). hagrid continues class and everyone goes back to paying attention to him except for fred. he's staring at you the whollleeee time.
you're two grades below him (u two are 5th and 7th year but ill age u up to 16 instead of 15 since he’s 17:)) so honestly he's never really noticed you outside of the common room before. you are friends w ron tho so ofc he knows of you and has seen you around the school, but he's never really paid attention to you before until now. and he glad he finally did because you are gorgeousss. after class, he ends up approaching you and ofc you're starstruck bc your best friend's cool, funny, hot older brother is talking to you.
he's like "i noticed you were laughing at my prank. you think that was funny?" and his tone kinda makes you scared bc he's really serious, but you end up nodding really slowly. his serious face breaks into a happy one as he says "great! at least someone was amused. say, you're friends with my baby brother, right?" he asks. and you're like "um... yeah..." and he says "great! well, why don't you take a break from hanging out w my loser brother and hang out w me tonight? george and i are planning a few more pranks." your jaw drops to the mf floor and youre like “uh. um yeah… s-sure” and fred’s like “😁😁😁 GREAT. see u then, l/n!” and your heart goes 🦋🦋🦋 and youre like “alright.. see you then”
so like you tell your friends, harry ron and hermione, abt your plans and harry is like “cool cool. tell us how it goes!” and hermione and you are giggling abt you hanging out w a boy two years up from you. and ron’s like “yeah whateva. have fun ig🙄” and hes just jealous bc his cool olders brothers are stealing his best friend but you reassure him you’re still his bff and youll hang out w him after/the next day. A
NYWAYS so it comes time and you step into the common room, confused as there was no one there. so you go and sit on the couch to wait but as you sit down, fred’s face immediately emerges from nowhere and you literally trip over and fall into him (which youre freaked out bc you cant see his body) but the invisibility cloak drops and he puts his arms around you quickly and holds you up just as your abt to fall. and your faces are literally like millimeters apart. and you think youre abt to kiss but fred pulls away and helps stabilize you before grabbing his cloak. youre like all shy again and he just smiles and says hello and sits down in the couch. you follow him in suit and he explains what the invisibility cloak is. then he gets out all his toys and prank stuff and you’re honestly really interested and you even give him ideas for new pranks and yk he likes you like 1000 times more hehe.
you two end up talking for a few hours and you emerge out of your shell and fred is very happy bc he now sees like the real you. a few hours later and your curled up on the couch, head on his shoulder and youre about to fall asleep (super romantic). fred then mentions george and youre like “oh wait. how come he isnt here?” and fred’s like “hes w angelina. his gf” and youre like “oooh” and then you boldly ask “do you have a gf” and you lift your head up from his shoulder and your face is so close to his, not as close as before, but you can feel his breath on your lips. and he looks you in the eyes and is like “no” and youre like “do you like anyone?” and as he speaks he looks down at your lips, “yeah. i think i do” and you think you know its you bc well like, how can you not in this moment. and youre like “who?” and hes like “you” AND THEN (im sorry this shit is so long but im living the dream) he leans in and your lips touch and you kiss and its all 😍🦋😏😁😋😩🥰🤩😽👻. lol anyways you pull away and are like 😳 and fred is like 😏 “ill see u tmrw right?” and youre like “y-yeah…” and you watch as he stood up and collects his stuff and leaves you. once you know hes gone, you stand up and start squealing and jumping around hehe and you run upstairs to tell hermione.
next morning, fred finds you at lunch and asks you point blank if you wanna be his gf and youre like “yes duh.” and you two then become official! so even tho fred is a prankster and is always carefree and stuff, he does have a compassionate side that comes out when he feels need be. hes so supportive too and he treats you like a mf queen. he’ll literally buy you anything and will do anything for you. he also plays jokes on u which you get him back and hes very impressed w your creativity and boldness.
so during breaks and summers, you visit the burrow and you two often hang out outside near the willow tree in their yard. you two also go swimming in the lake (let’s pretend its a big lake not a pond lol). its super nice and relaxing especially on like 90 degree days where you two are melting. you two always are splashing each other and laughing loudly. sometimes you two just cuddle and drink pumpkin juice and talk about what fred is gonna do now that he’s outta school. tbh youre afraid that once you go back to school and youre apart, youll grow apart, but fred always assure you two that you wont bc you two are soulmates <3
hope you enjoyed this!
join my celebration!

Seven Soulmarks: Jungkook (”Loser.”)
~genre: soulmate au, fluff, some angst, sfw
~word count: 6.1k
~pairing: jungkook x reader
~warnings: descriptions of bullying (nothing violent), family member death mention, a wild jackson wang appears (i needed a brother okay), listen it sounds intense but this is one of my favs i’ve written
~summary: At the exact moment of your twentieth birthday, the first words your soulmate will ever say to you appear in black ink on the inside of your left wrist. Jeon Jungkook is devastated when his wrist reads one word: “Loser.”
See how the other boys meet their soulmates (all interconnected) Taehyung -- Jimin -- Namjoon -- Hoseok -- Yoongi -- Jin
~~~~~~~~~~~
Jeon Jungkook was six years old the first time someone called him a loser.
It had been during a spelling bee. It was only the first grade, so the words had been simple things like “park,” “tall,” “flower,” or “here.”
In Jungkook’s case, the first word he was given by his teacher had been “soul.”
“S - O - W - L.”
The other students had immediately burst out laughing. Jungkook could feel his ears turning red as he looked at all of their faces, their laughter becoming crueler with each second of his confusion.
“Oh I’m so sorry Jungkook,” his teacher had said. “Soul is actually spelled S - O - U - L. I’m afraid you’ve lost this time around, you can go sit in your seat.”
“Haha, Jungkook is the first one out!” One of the boys had shouted. Jungkook whipped his head over to look at him, only to be met with the bully’s gap-toothed smirk and a greasy finger pointed in his direction. “Loser!”
The word struck something deep in Jungkook’s chest, a chord that he never wanted to be played.
How were they being so mean? The other kids in his class were laughing along with the bully, despite their teacher trying to calm him down. Jungkook didn’t understand … He was fine with losing the spelling bee, but now with all of his classmates calling him that word — loser — he felt smaller than ever, and he was a small child to begin with.
His mother had always told him she loved his quiet, sensitive heart.
But Jungkook’s heart didn’t seem to love him back that day.
And the tears rolling down his puffy cheeks only cemented the taunting nickname for the rest of his school years.
***
“What’s up, loser?”
“Nice jacket, loser.”
“Hey loser, can I copy your notes?”
These kinds of off-handed remarks were part of Jungkook’s daily school routine from that fateful day of the spelling bee up until high school. As much as Jungkook begged his family to let him switch schools as a child, it just wasn’t possible for them because of his father’s job.
Eventually, he stopped asking and just accepted his fate.
It didn’t mean the name-calling ever hurt any less.
Jungkook knew that he was sensitive, and he tried to grow thicker skin, he really did. But he also didn’t really want to change. He liked who he was, he just didn’t understand why nobody else did.
“Hey loser!”
Jungkook sighed, dropped his head to his chest at the unfortunately familiar voice of that same bully who coined his nickname after the spelling bee in the first grade.
“Oh come on loser, don’t be like that,” the bully said with a cruel laugh, leaning against Jungkook’s locker. “We graduate tomorrow! Lose the long face for once!”
I only have a long face because you treat me like shit, Jungkook thought to himself. But of course he didn’t say it out loud.
People had been mean to him for the past eleven years, but he never could bring himself to be mean back. He knew there was a light at the end of the tunnel and eventually no one would call him ‘loser.’ So he just had to survive and be kind until he got to that place.
“Graduation, yeah,” Jungkook said with a nod and a brief glance at the bully. “Can’t wait.”
“That’s the spirit!” the bully shouted, hitting Jungkook in the shoulder hard enough to push him into the door of his locker with a wince. “Last day, loser! Woo!”
Jungkook couldn’t help but wince again as the bully shouted right in his ear and then gave him a noogie before striding off down the hallway to possibly terrorize someone else.
“Last day,” he whispered to himself, closing his high school locker for the last time. “It can only get better from here.”
***
And it did. College was the best thing that could have ever happened to Jungkook. He moved to another city, went to a school where none of his high school classmates were attending, and was finally able to start over.
He didn’t change anything about himself, but was finally in an environment where he could truly be himself without fear. It was life-changing.
Confidence sprouted in him like a flower in bloom, and Jungkook found himself making friends, laughing without abandon, pursuing his interests with people that thought like him.
His inward confidence rippled to his outward appearance as well, and his closest friends were two guys that he had met at the gym when he was just a freshman. Jin and Namjoon were both seniors, but they welcomed him into their friend circle without any hesitation. And when Jin heard that Jungkook enjoyed dancing, he connected him to Hoseok, who was a junior and captain of the dance team, and just like that the four of them were thick as thieves.
This was Jungkook’s light at the end of the tunnel. Having friends who loved and supported him and got his weird sense of humor.
And not once had any of them called him a loser.
Now junior year was about to start and Jungkook had just moved out of the dorms into an apartment with Hoseok. Jin and Namjoon had both gotten their own apartments in the last year or so since they were making good money, but he and Hoseok were still typical broke college students (well, Hoseok was graduated, but was living like a broke college student while he saved up to open his own dance studio).
“Dude, did you hear about that new record shop that’s supposed to open up just down the street?”
Jungkook looked up from his phone as Hoseok spoke, his friend sorting through one of the boxes he had yet to unpack even though they’d moved in two weeks ago.
“No, I didn’t.”
“Yeah, I went by the other day to see if the space would be good for the studio, but it had just been bought. The owner’s name is Yoongi, super cool dude. He and his soulmate and some other girl were signing. Don’t know when it’ll open, but they bought the space.”
“That’s pretty cool,” Jungkook murmured even though he wasn’t really paying attention, still looking at his phone.
Hoseok scoffed, propping his elbows up on the side of the box and looking at his friend with an eyebrow cocked. “You’re not even listening to me. I need attention, Jungkookie, and you’re not giving it to me.”
Jungkook huffed, looking at Hoseok only to snort when he saw his friend pouting dramatically.
“Sorry. It’s just … my mark is about to appear.”
“Wait, what?!” Hoseok screamed, making Jungkook wince. “What the hell, dude?! I thought your birthday was tomorrow!” He grabbed his own phone, looking at the date and groaning. “Man, I’m so sorry. I got the dates mixed up, if I had known I would have—”
“It’s fine, it’s fine,” Jungkook reassured him. “It’s not a big deal.”
“It is a big deal!” Hoseok’s shrieking was going to be a topic of conversation with their neighbors for sure. “It’s your soulmark year! What time will it show up?”
“My mom said I was born at 10:05.”
“Damn, you’ve only got … one minute! How do you feel?”
“I don’t know,” Jungkook shrugged, pulling at the loose threads at the end of his sweatshirt. His hair dipped down over his forehead, he would have to go to Jimin soon to get a haircut. “It feels kind of weird. That I have a soulmate out there at all.”
“Yeah, it’s trippy,” Hoseok agreed, looking down at his own wrist. “I can’t wait to meet mine though. She sounds feisty.”
Jungkook chuckled at that. He had been there when Hoseok’s mark had appeared. They’d been with Jin and Namjoon, the former laughing until he literally peed himself when Hoseok’s mark showed up and said, ‘Can you even breathe in those pants?’
“It’s just … until I met you and the guys, I never felt like I belonged anywhere. No one understood me. And to know that there’s a girl out there — I think it’s gonna be a girl anyway — a girl that’s just going to get me, it’s … it’s crazy. Aish, I’m probably overthinking it.”
“No man, this is normal,” Hoseok reassured him, reaching over and nudging him fondly. “Your soulmate is going to love you. And not just because, you know, the universe designed them to and all that, but because you’re great!”
“Thanks, hyung.”
Just then the timer on Jungkook’s phone went off. The two boys both froze, Jungkook turning over his wrist so that he and Hoseok could both look.
Nothing showed up.
“You sure you got the time right?”
“Yes I’m sure,” Jungkook snapped, but it didn’t hold any real bite. “Just give it a minute.”
“Okay, okay.”
They watched in silence, Jungkook worrying at his bottom lip. What if nothing showed up? What if he didn’t have a soulmate? What if he’d already met his soulmate. That was a nightmare scenario waiting to happen. It didn’t happen often, but when it did, the words appeared gray and were the next words your soulmate would say to you.
He hoped it was someone new.
“Look!”
Jungkook jumped at the sound of Hoseok’s voice, blinking his eyes back into focus. Sure enough, black ink was slowly appearing on the inside of his left wrist.
His heart started to beat faster, and he could feel himself grinning. This was it, this was the moment he hadn’t ever really dared to dream about. His perfect match, the person who was made up of the same star stuff as him, his literally soulmate’s first words to him was going to be …
‘Loser.’
Jungkook had never been skydiving before, but he had read that the very first moment you jump out of the plane, there’s a split second where your heart lurches into your chest and you just feel this overwhelming fear and wrongness.
He had that feeling right then. But it didn’t go away after one second.
“But … I …”
For the first time since Jungkook had met Hoseok, his friend was speechless.
“I don’t understand.”
He could feel tears rolling down his cheeks, but he couldn’t bring himself to wipe them away. This couldn’t be happening.
The words were in black ink, which meant he hadn’t met the person before, and yet his soulmate’s first word to him was going to be the word he hated most in the world? The name his classmates taunted him with for eleven years?
Jungkook was a kind soul. People had told him that his whole life, even before he started to believe it himself.
So how was his soulmate going to be … so cruel?
“Kookie,” Hoseok started, his voice hoarse. He and Jin and Namjoon all knew what Jungkook’s early school days had been like, and the heaviness of that word on Jungkook’s heart. “I’m sure it’s not what it looks like.”
Jungkook said nothing, only continued to cry silently as his friend wrapped an arm around his shoulders and squeezed.
It just didn’t make any sense. Jungkook hadn’t even met his soulmate yet and their cruelty was already striking the chord of pain that he thought he’d left behind.
***
You were suspended for the first time in second grade.
You didn’t even know second graders could get suspended. Years later you found out that you were actually your school’s first ever case of a second grade suspension and quite frankly, you wore the badge with pride.
“Y/N, this behavior is simply unacceptable,” your principal said to you as you held an ice pack to your swollen cheek. “Your teacher tells me you’re the class leader and yet this is the example you’re setting.”
You rolled your eyes, which led to a wince when the tender, quickly bruised flesh pulled at the motion.
“I’ve called your father, he should be here momentarily,” your principal continued. The look on his face was pissing you off. You didn’t even know what ‘pissed off’ meant, but you had heard the phrase on a TV show your older brother watched and it resonated with you for some reason. “I am very disappointed in you, Y/N. This school does not tolerate fighting.”
You huffed in indignation, wanting to stomp your foot but it didn’t reach the floor from the chair you sat in across from the principal’s desk.
“But he—”
“Hi, sorry I’m late.”
At the sound of your father’s voice, you turned around in your seat so fast that one of your pigtails hit you in the face.
“Oh, baby,” your father murmured. His gaze went straight to your bruised face, running around your chair to crouch in front of you and inspect the damage. “How did this happen?” he snapped at your principal.
The principal scoffed at your father’s tone, clearly taking offense.
“This happened because your daughter initiated a fight on the playground today, sir.”
You father looked back at you and blinked in confusion. “Sweetheart, is this true?”
You could feel tears prickling your eyes. The worst thing in the world was when your father was disappointed in you.
You nodded, keeping your eyes downcast at your lap and swinging your feet.
“Yeah, I hit him,” you mumbled. “But it was only because—”
“I’m sorry, Y/N,” the principal cut you off. “This school has a strict no-violence policy, any excuses are—”
“Let her finish.”
Your father practically growled at the principal. The beady eyed administrator gulped, looking away from your father’s intense glare.
You finally felt comfortable enough to meet your father’s eyes as he turned back to you. In the matter of a mere second, his gaze went from livid to kind as he looked down at you.
Your father and brother were your whole world. Your mother had passed away giving birth to you and even though you tended to feel particularly empty whenever you saw the other girls being dropped off at school by their moms in the morning, your father and brother were everything to you.
“Why did you hit another student, sweetheart?” your father asked softly.
“Because he called Lana a slut!” you shouted instantly, your tiny voice not so tiny anymore. “And I don’t even know what slut means but he said it like a real big jerk and then he pulled on her shirt so hard she fell down on the ground! And instead of helping her up he just kicked sand on her! And I warned him Daddy, I swear I did! I told him, ‘if you say one more word then I’ll sock you right in the mouth.’ I heard Jackson say that one time but don’t tell him I told you that. But then he looked at me and said ‘one more word,’ and then he kicked sand on Lana and me both while I was helping her up. And I knew if I didn’t hit him then I would be a liar and I would be telling him it was okay to push girls down and call them mean names and it’s just not, Daddy, it’s not okay! And the teachers weren’t doing anything, they never do, so I did it, I socked him right in the mouth and then he hit me back and so I hit him again and then Teacher separated us and then I came here and that’s what happened.”
The office went deadly silent when you finished, save for your sniffles. You wiped at your face with the back of your hand quickly, unable to look at your father yet again.
Then you heard a small chuckle and felt your chin being lifted up.
“Sweetheart,” he murmured. “You can look at me. I’m not mad.”
“You’re … you’re not?”
“Not at all,” he assured you. “In fact I’m proud of you.”
The principal guffawed, but was instantly silenced by another glare from your father.
“Do I think you should have hit the boy?” your father asked. “No. And we can work on learning some better options for when you see something. But Y/N, I will always — always be proud of you for standing up for what is right. Do you hear me?”
You sniffled, throwing yourself into your father’s arms.
“I hear you, Daddy.”
***
Your father’s funeral was the day of your twentieth birthday.
For twenty years, you had known exactly where you stood in the world because you knew who you could always fall back on.
And now he was gone and for the first time ever … you felt lost.
Your brother Jackson gripped your hand tightly as the casket was lowered. He’d delivered a beautiful eulogy, and you knew that later you would feel terrible for putting all that responsibility on him, but in that moment … you were just numb.
The snow falling around you wasn’t exactly helping.
Jackson had tried to convince you to move the funeral so that it wouldn’t coincide with the day you received your soulmark, but you had refused.
Anytime you had dreamed about when your mark would appear, the dream had always included your father being there with you. Now that he wouldn’t … what was the point in making it a big thing?
“Just a few more minutes,” Jackson said suddenly, startling you from where you were staring at the coffin slowly disappearing into the ground.
“Huh?”
Your brother nodded down at your wrist. “Your mark. Just a few more minutes and it’ll show up.”
“Oh. Right.”
“Y/N … I know this is hard, but—”
“Just don’t, Jackson,” you sighed. “I’m just … I’m tired. I’m so damn tired, I can’t make myself get happy about my mark. I feel like with him gone, I don’t even know who I am anymore, how the hell am I supposed to care who my soulmate is?”
“You know who you are.” When you snorted, Jackson grabbed you by the shoulders and turned you to face him. “Hey, listen to me. I know we’re both grieving and I know this sucks alright, I’m in pain, too.” His voice cracking on those words was enough to make you actually focus on him. “But you know who you are. So do I. And so did … so did Dad.”
You winced, looking away to where dirt was being pushed into the grave. Jackson grabbed you gently by the chin to make you look back at him.
“You are strong, resilient, and you take no crap from anybody. I’ve never met anyone who stands up for what’s right the way you do, and sometimes that needs to mean you stand up to yourself when you get like this. You are who Dad raised you to be.”
“And who is that?”
“The same punk who socked a kid in the mouth on the playground for bullying your friend.”
Your laugh was a sad one, but it was there. Jackson smiled.
“You’re the same person who organized a protest to get the cafeteria to include gluten free pizza because one kid in your grade had celiac disease. You’re the person who organized a neighborhood wide clean up for the old lady down the street when her house got out of control because she couldn’t take care of it herself anymore. That’s who you are, Y/N. Kind and compassionate and yet mean as hell when you know someone is being a bully.”
You laughed out loud at that one, wiping away your tears with the back of your hand.
“There it is,” Jackson murmured. “I knew that smile was still in there somewhere.”
“How am I supposed to smile right now, Jax? I’m … we’re at our father’s funeral. He’s gone, how do I … how do we keep going?”
“By being who he raised us to be. You — a freedom fighter with a heart of gold. Me — incredibly handsome and charming and talented and—”
“Yeah, yeah, I get it,” you chuckled. “I just … I’m afraid I don’t know how to be that person without him.”
Jackson smiled softly, shaking his head as he pulled you in for a hug.
“Yes you do, Y/N. Yes you do.”
You hugged him back tightly as you could, letting your brother push the broken pieces of your heart back into place.
“Oh!” you exclaimed suddenly, pulling away. “My mark!”
“Oh what’s it say, what’s it say?”
“It says …” you pulled back the black sleeve of your dress and turned your hand over to look at the inside of your left wrist. “‘This is not what I expected.’”
“Huh,” Jackson remarked as you furrowed your brow. “That’s a pretty good one.”
And even though your heart was heavy, there was still a flutter in the back of your heart.
You had a soulmate out there somewhere. Your other half was out there.
Whoever he ends up being … you find yourself hoping he’s the kind of guy your father would love.
***
ONE YEAR LATER
It was a well known fact that Jungkook hated bars. They were impersonal, usually dirty, not exactly primed for dancing the way that clubs were, and he usually got hit on a lot which is flattering, sure, but also super uncomfortable for him.
But of course Jin wanted to celebrate his birthday at the bar where he met his soulmate — who was now his fiancee. Not that anyone could miss the fact that Jin’s soulmate was now his fiancee considering he announced it to the world every five minutes.
Not that Jungkook was jealous or anything.
No … not at all.
“Jungkook!”
The younger boy jumped as Namjoon slapped his hand on his shoulder, spilling a few drops of his drink on the bar in the process. He looked up at his friend and smirked. Like always, Namjoon’s hair was immaculately coifed.
“Looking good, hyung,” he remarked with a smirk. “Any nice girls comment on your hair tonight?”
“Not yet, but it’s still early.”
“You know I can see your roots starting to come in, you should probably go see Jimin soon. And — oh my gosh, is that … it looks like your part is uneven! Call the hair police stat!”
“Alright you little brat, keep making fun,” Namjoon said cooly. “I’m not the one with a mop on his head.”
“The ladies love this mop of hair, hyung.”
“And yet you always turn them down. Ack, get those doe eyes out of my face. Hoseok!”
“Joonie-ah!”
Even across the entire room, Hoseok’s voice made it sound like he was right beside them. Seconds later the slender, red-faced and slightly tipsy boy was bounding up to the bar.
“Hello, boys,” he sing-songed, waving down the bartender and asking for another beer. “Where the hell did Jin even go? This is his birthday party and he’s missing all the fun.”
“Ah,” Namjoon remarked, throwing back a shot. “I do believe I saw he and his lovely fiancee sneaking away a few minutes ago.”
“Soulmates,” Hoseok muttered. “Can’t live with them, desperately want to be them.” He thanked the bartender smoothly and grabbed his new drink. “Come on boys, let’s go meet some ladies and hope they say those special words! And if not, well … we can get them to say something else equally enticing!”
“Ah, you guys go ahead,” Jungkook said as Hoseok started to drag him away. “I’m going to finish my drink and then head home.”
“What?” Hoseok shouted (honestly, it was like his default volume when he was tipsy).
“Jungkookie, it’s not even ten,” Namjoon said.
“I know, but I have a paper to work on and if Jin-hyung isn’t even here then I really should get back and work on it.”
“Aw, Namjoon, look at our little boy all grown up and being a responsible student.”
“Stop that,” Jungkook snapped, but not without a fond smile as he shoved away Hoseok’s hands from gripping his cheeks and shaking them. “You guys go. Find a soulmate or … a person for the evening.”
“Eloquent, Kookie, truly. We’ll catch you later, alright?” Namjoon asked, narrowing his eyes.
“Yeah, yeah, I’ll see you on Saturday. Go ahead. And Hobi, don’t slam the door when you come in the apartment tonight, yeah?”
When Hoseok bounded away without an answer, Jungkook just rolled his eyes. Typical. It was a good thing he loved that guy already.
Left to his own devices at the bar, Jungkook went back to his drink. He meant it when he said he had a paper to work on, but he paid good money from his very meager bank account for his drink, so he was damn well going to finish it.
It was kind of peaceful, sitting on his own at the bar and just having a drink. Getting lost in his thoughts, good ones of his friends and new dance choreo and a stupid pun Jin had told him last week.
He only tensed up once when a woman in a green dress sat down a couple seats from him, fully expecting her to make a move on him, but then relaxing when she just ordered a drink for herself and didn’t pay him any attention at all.
It was oddly serene. Until it wasn’t.
Jungkook was just one sip away from being finished with his drink when someone clasped his shoulder with an painfully iron tight grip.
“Ouch, Namjoon, what the—”
Jungkook froze as he looked up to see someone he thought he’d left in another town, in a life long left behind.
“Holy shit!” his childhood bully shouted, still as greasy faced and obnoxious as he’d been all through their school days, grinning with cruel delight. “I thought that was you! Damn loser, who would have thought I’d be seeing you here? I bet you thought you’d seen the last of me, huh?”
It was an odd feeling, to be thrown back into a past version of himself as Jungkook looked up at the person that had initiated a cycle of cruelty and misery for eleven years of his life.
“I … I—”
“Haha, still stuttering, huh, loser?” The bully punched him in the shoulder and even though Jungkook had developed a fair amount of muscle mass since high school, it still hurt to be punched. “Damn loser, you been working out? Shit, you really bulked up! I wouldn’t have shit on you so much in high school if you looked like this! I mean, you really went from a dweeb to a good-looking dude! Good for you, loser!”
“Uh, yeah,” Jungkook muttered, moving to stand from the stool. “Hey it’s uh, good to see you too man, but I gotta go.”
The bully just laughed and the familiar noise stirred a very real pain in Jungkook’s gut.
“Still a loser, huh loser? I knew it was you when I saw you sitting at a bar and drinking by yourself! I guess you can bulk up and move away, but once a loser always a—”
“Hey tough guy.”
The bully looked up at the sound of your voice. Jungkook turned as well, hoping and praying that his eyes weren’t glassy.
You stood up from your stool with a margarita in hand and daggers in your gaze as you stared at the colossal asshole trying to act macho.
“Hey sweets, I’m more than willing to chat with you once I finish catching up with my high school buddy here.” He clapped Jungkook on the shoulder once again, squeezing his meaty fingers into the fabric on his black shirt.
“Yeah see I don’t know you,” you said, stepping up and smacking the inside of the bully’s elbow to make him let go of the unreasonably handsome, but quiet man that had been sitting beside you at the bar. “But I do know that ‘high school buddies’ typically don’t degrade one another and call each other names. So why don’t you buzz off and get your dick hard some other way instead of reliving your glory days of being the world’s biggest teenage douchebag.”
Jungkook’s mouth dropped, staring at you in shock. Not once, not once had anyone defended him in front of this guy. Until you. He didn’t even know you and yet you were standing up for him.
The bully blinked in surprise, but then it only took a few seconds for his face to turn red with anger.
“Listen here you bitch—”
“Watch it.”
No one was more surprised at Jungkook’s growled warning than Jungkook himself. You looked over your shoulder at him with a raised eyebrow and the slightest smirk before turning back to the asshole in question.
“Call me or any other woman bitch ever again, and I’ll throw this drink all over your head, sock you in the mouth, and then get you permanently banned from the bar. Do you understand me or should I repeat myself slower?”
“Who the fuck do you think you are?” the bully snapped, puffing out his chest with held breath.
“I think I’m someone that can spot a whiny ass bully from a mile away,” you remarked casually, not perturbed in the slightest. “So why don’t you just save all of us some trouble, and fuck off somewhere else.”
The bully looked over you at Jungkook, who was still staring at you shell-shocked. You continued to smile at the bully as if you were discussing the weather.
“Kookie!”
“Hey, hey, what’s going on here?”
Hoseok and Namjoon appeared seemingly out of nowhere, the latter coming up to stand on the other side of Jungkook opposite of you. It was only then that you and Jungkook realized that most of the bar had gone silent and was watching the situation unfold.
“Hey man,” Namjoon addressed the bully, lifting his chin. “Is there a problem here?”
The bully looked at the four of you standing side by side and straightened his shoulders, inhaling a shaky breath. “Oh I see, loser,” he addressed Jungkook. “You make it out of our little town, think you make it big, but you need a little posse to protect you. Still a loser through and through.”
“What the fuck did you just—”
“Hobi don’t,” Jungkook snapped, reaching behind Namjoon to grab Hoseok’s arm and pull him back.
The bully laughed, raising his arms out to the side. “Like I said. You can’t even stand up for yourself, loser. You need these two pussies and your little bitch to—”
You threw your drink in the bully’s face, letting him splutter as you turned and placed the empty glass on the bar counter before rearing your arm back and punching him in the nose.
The entire bar ‘ooo’ed as the bully hit the floor.
You hissed, shaking out your hand as you looked over your shoulder to the bartender.
“Jackson,” you said casually, flexing your fingers. “I’m calling in my monthly sister favor. This guy is permanently banned from the bar.”
“First of all,” Jackson replied, eyeing his groaning customer on the floor. “You already used your monthly sister favor when you needed gas last week. But because I’m a nice brother, consider this one an advance on next month’s.”
You grinned, turning back to where the bully was still rolling on the ground like an imbecile.
“Alright, asshole, up and out. You’re banned, fuck off before I call the cops for trespassing since you’re officially banned. That’s right, out, out. Thank you, goodbye.”
The bully didn’t even spare Jungkook one last glance as he staggered to his feet and out the door.
“Show’s over, people,” Jackson called out. “But tune in next week, we’ll probably have a rerun of some sort. Carry on!”
You stuck your tongue out at your brother, who just laughed and went back to serving drinks as the bar slowly moved back to normalcy after the scene you caused. Well … the scene you ended.
You finally looked back to the three boys.
Who were staring at you … slack-jawed.
They were all really damn cute, one with sick looking hair, the other tan and glowing and red-faced (tipsy, clearly), and the one who had been bullied just … damn fine.
“I like your hair,” you remarked to the one with the platinum coif.
His eyes went wide before sighing dramatically. The one on his other side promptly burst out laughing. “Dammit,” he muttered under his breath, stalking off to get another drink.
You looked to the one who was still laughing. “What did I say?”
“The wrong thing,” the sunshine one said, still laughing. You guessed it was a soulmark thing, but didn’t push it. “That was awesome by the way. Nice punch!”
You smirked, shrugging with no small amount of pride. “Thanks, I do kickboxing.”
“Hey, Jungkook likes boxing!” he shouted, grabbing his other friend and shoving him closer to you. You laughed at the other boy’s scared expression. He had yet to say a word to you. “I don’t know if kickboxing and boxing is the same or not, but … you should talk! I need another drink.”
“Tell the bartender it’s on me,” you said, earning yourself a double thumbs up and a high-five from the sunshine boy. That made you laugh, turning to the other boy to tell him you liked his friends, only to freeze when you saw the look on his face.
He was staring at you like you were an ethereal being or something. Pure admiration. You weren’t ashamed to admit that if he hadn’t been so cute, it definitely would’ve been creepy.
You swallowed hard, not knowing what to say. He was just about to open his mouth to speak first when you blurted out —
“Loser.”
The boy froze, his big (and wildly beautiful) brown eyes widening like saucers.
“Like … really?” you continued. “That dude is practically a professional bully and the only name he called you was loser? Pfft, what a moron. Seriously, don’t dwell on him for a single second, okay? Not worth your time.”
The boy was still silent, and his stare was really getting to you.
“Would you just … say something, please?” you asked, swallowing and running a hand through your hair. “I’m sorry if I overstepped, it’s just that I … I can’t just stand by when I see stuff like that. And you looked really uncomfortable and kind of scared and I had to step in. I can’t—”
“This,” he finally spoke, his voice soft and smooth in all the right ways, “is not what I expected.”
Now it was your turn to stare.
“W-What did you just say?” you asked.
Your right hand subconsciously moved to grab your left wrist, and Jungkook tracked the movement with his eyes. A smile started to play on his lips, growing wider with each second as he lifted his own left hand.
On the inside of his wrist, right there in black ink, was a single word.
‘Loser.’
“I … I …”
You knew you were gaping like a fish, but you genuinely had no idea what to say.
“I … I am such an asshole!”
Jungkook blinked at you in surprise.
“Oh my gosh you’ve spent this whole time thinking your soulmate was just going to insult you when you met!” you exclaimed, hands on your head and eyes wild. “Why the hell did I even say that? I’m so insensitive, holy crap!”
Jungkook stared at you, his smile only widening and then he burst into laughter.
And not just any laughter. Oh no, Jungkook’s laughter was open and honest and completely real. He was the epitome of ‘ahahaha!’ and it was the best damn sound you had ever heard.
And it was contagious. Soon enough you were giggling too, hands on your cheeks as your face reddened in both embarrassment and delight.
“Kookie!” Hoseok shouted from the bar suddenly, causing the two of you to look over at where he, Namjoon, and Jackson were clearly chatting. “What the hell is so funny?”
You looked back to Jungkook, grinning. His heart skipped a beat, and so did yours.
The pair of you looked back to the trio, left wrists held up like badges of honor.
“She called me a loser!”
“He said I wasn’t what he expected!”
The three boys were silent for just a split second.
Jackson promptly screamed and announced free drinks, Hoseok started laughing so hard he literally fell off his chair and spilled his drink everywhere, and Namjoon dropped his head to the bar surface after grumbling, “Another one?”
You and Jungkook looked back to one another, both of you positively beaming. In a rare display of boldness, Jungkook reached out with his left hand and gently grasped yours, running his thumb over the mark there. He giggled when you shivered and you could have melted on the spot.
“Sorry you have to wear the word ‘loser’ on your wrist for the rest of your life,” you said softly, feeling parts of you turn to mush as he looked down at you with utter fondness.
“It’s okay,” he said instantly, smile brighter than any sunrise. “That word doesn’t bother me anymore.”
Section 1 – Who were you?
Think back as far as you can. What is the first memory you have? I think meeting my (now) dad for the first time when he and my mom were dating. I was very upset because he was short and that’s not what dads were supposed to look like in my 3 year old eyes since my bio dad was super tall.
What is something you remember enjoying very much as a small child? Playing Barbies, watching Barney, Happy Meals, being with my grandma.
How old were you, when you made your very first friend? Probably preschool.
Are you still friends with this person today? Facebook friends, yeah. Real friends, no.
Was there a story somebody read or told you that has stuck with you? No one ever read to me after I learned to read for myself so one day I was sick and I came home and curled up with my mom on the couch and asked her to read me a Little Mermaid book I had and she did, even though I had to get up to go shit myself halfway through and it meant a lot to me at the time.
What is something you get an immense feeling of nostalgia from? Hannah Montana for some reason. It was my favorite show and we didn’t get the Disney channel so whenever we went to a hotel, nobody could tell me fuckin NOTHING because we were watching Hannah Montana whether they liked it or not.
As a child, were you a sore loser or a sore winner? I was the only child for 8 years and then the oldest after that so I never lost at anything and now when I do, I feel like I'm the biggest piece of shit loser there’s ever been. So that’s fun.
Did you go through the "naked phase"? I learned that you didn’t have to sleep in pajamas and you could just sleep naked so I did it for a while but then realized that I much preferred pajamas.
Which television shows do you watch the most as a child? I loved TV so basically all of the 90′s/early 2000′s shows there were.
Did you play with siblings, neighbourhood kids or by yourself? Either with neighborhood/school kids or by myself. I didn’t ever really have siblings who weren’t my kids, if that makes sense.
Is there something you really miss from your childhood today? I miss back when everything was simple.
Section 2 – Likes and interests
Would you ever like to try competitive pinball playing? Ummm, no.
Do you knit, crochet or cross stitch? I’m trying to teach myself to crochet.
Have you ever, or would you like to attend a gaming or comic convention? No thx.
What's your opinion on online multiplayer games? I really liked Among Us for a while there but I don’t really enjoy how rude everyone is on online games.
Do you like to go cycling? If so, where? Uh no.
Have you ever tried woodturning? If not, would you like to? Never tried it, don’t really have any desire to, but it can be relaxing to watch!
Do you enjoy drawing? If so, what do you usually draw? I do! I usually draw graphics for YouTube videos or doodle over Instagram photos, draw things to put on shirts with my Cricut, etc. I use my iPad for so many things.
Have you ever attended a painting class? If so, what did you create? I haven’t but I would like to!
How about a creative writing course? If so, did you get any feedback? I took Creative Writing literally every year it was offered in high school and I always got awards for having the top marks in the class.
What is your favourite form of exercise? No thank you.
Section 3 – People
Who is the most important person in your life (besides yourself)? My husband.
Do people generally approach you easily? I think so!
Do you get along with people well? If not, what's the problem? Yeah! I’m pretty friendly and easy going.
Do you enjoy being in crowds or do you prefer your own company? I would much prefer my own company than crowds.
Which one of your friends have you known the longest? I still talk to the girl I was best friends with in the 6th grade on occasion so like 17-18 years?
Do you find it easy to make friends now? If not, what makes it difficult? As an adult who works from home, making friends is hard as fuck.
What is something about people that annoys you? Something I've noticed in recent years is just how entitled and greedy everyone is. Everybody wants something from you or for your skills to benefit them without them putting in any work or paying you for your time. It’s just gross.
What is something about people that you really like? We have really, really harsh winters and if you ever find yourself in the ditch for whatever reason, there will be a lineup of cars stopped behind you to help you push it out or let you chill in their car while you wait for a tow truck. On the really bad blizzard days, there are groups of men in big trucks that literally L I V E to go around and help pull people’s cars out of the ditch. It’s the only time I feel like there’s actually a sense of community around here.
If you live alone, what would be your criteria for a roommate? I honestly would never have a roommate because they could either be your friend or a stranger and living with friends is a good way to ruin a friendship if your living styles aren’t similar and living with a stranger just sounds like a nightmare.
How about criteria for a spouse, if you're single? I am married but my criteria was honestly that I just wanted him to be kind and funny and I got that tenfold with my husband.
In general, what's your attitude towards people? I can’t stand to be around grumpy people. If all you do is gripe and complain about literally everything, I’m out. No thank you. Why is your hobby being angry? Take up knitting or something for christ’s sake.
Section 4 – Habits
What is something you do every day without fail? Baby talk the dog and snuggle with Beebs.
What is your typical breakfast? I’m a leftovers for breakfast kinda gal but lately I’ve been having a bagel and watermelon.
Which article of clothing do you like to wear the most? I loooove me a good baggy T-shirt and booty shorts.
Is there a TV show you watch habitually? We’re currently watching Unhhhh while we eat dinner every night, haha!
Where do you usually spend most of your day? I really only sit in 4 places--bed, the couch, my makeup/work desk, or my sewing desk. Depends on the day which one I’m at.
Is there a product that you do not want to run out of? Moisturizer. I’m a dry son of a bitch.
What is your preferred mode of transport? Car!
Do you usually have something playing in the background when you're home? Nah. I’m in silence a lot of the time.
Where do you usually get your groceries? Walmart for the bulk of it, a local grocery store for the specialty items, and Target if we ever run out of something midweek because I cannot handle Walmart more than once a week.
How often do you go to your local park? Like once or twice a month in the summer!
Which of your hobbies do you indulge in most often? Sewing and Sims currently!
Section 5 – Favourites and dislikes
What is your favourite fruit? Watermelon!
How about your favourite berry? Strawberries are the only berry I like.
Which food do you highly dislike? Fish. It’s all disgusting.
What is your favourite song, and why? I hate this question. Who can pick one definitive favorite song out of the bajillions of songs that have been written??
What is a movie you cannot stand? Anything with Seth Rogen in it, any movie that's got a 3+ after it (looking @ you, Fast & Furious), and all the fuckin’ superhero movies that have the same ‘ah yes, this undefeatable bad guy that we have absolutely no chance against and will undoubtedly kill us all--but we’re going to pull through at the last second with the power of friendship!’ plot line.
Which trait in a person do you find most appealing? I don’t know how to describe it--certain people just have that spark and you can always tell right away if they’ve got it or not and those are my favorite kind of people.
Which trait puts you instantly off? If they’re religious it’s an instant no from me, dog.
Who is an actor/actress who you dislike so much you can't watch them? I really, really dislike Tom Holland. I honestly think he’s a terrible actor.
What colour are your favourite shoes? White!
What is a smell that disgusts you to no end? B.O., on me or others. I just can’t deal with it.
Which door handle/door knob do you like the most in your home? They’re all the same.
Section 6 – Culture
What is something very typical to the culture of your home country? Apple pie and baseball are the only things coming to mind atm.
Do you enjoy art? If so, which form of art is the most enjoyable? I do! But I prefer art that you can look at and know the artist is incredibly gifted and/or has put in a ton of time and effort to master their skills. None of that million dollar paint smear on a canvas shit.
What is something about another country's culture you don't understand? I feel like other cultures take their family and their family’s approval way too seriously. That might be rich coming from someone who doesn’t have a very good relationship with their family but I just don’t understand what the point of making yourself miserable to make your family happy is.
Do you ever attend the theater? If so, which play did you see last? Last thing I saw in a theater was Shangela perform a drag show, haha!
How about the opera or the ballet? Nope.
Which dance troupe do you enjoy, if any? ...they still do that?
Do you attend concerts or gigs? If so, which band did you see last? Not as much as I’d like to as no one good really comes here very often. Last band we saw was X Ambassadors and Paramore!
Are you interested in foreign food? I’m not uninterested but I’m not super interested either.
If so, which country's cuisine do you enjoy the most? Chinese...albiet probably a very Americanized version of Chinese.
Do you enjoy stand-up comedy? If so, who is your favourite comic? I doooo! Bo Burnham and Drew Lynch are my favorites.
Do you contribute to culture in some way? If so, how? I try to? I’m an influencer so I definitely have a platform of a couple hundred thousand people. Not sure what exactly I contribute tho.
Section 7 – Charity
Do you volunteer your time to anything charitable? If so, what? Newp.
Do you donate money to any charities? If so, which ones? No. I don’t trust a lot of charities, to be quite honest. A lot of them are very shady and I’d rather donate money directly to someone who needed it rather than it getting tied up in a charity where it might never actually see the people they claim to be helping.
If you have pets, are any of them rescues from shelters? We adopted our dog from one of my husband’s coworkers but she probably would have gone to the shelter if we didn’t take her.
Do you donate your old clothes, linen etc. to charitable organizations? Yes! We almost always have a bag of donations in our trunk that we always forget to take to the thrift store when we go.
If someone you know is in need, is it in your nature to offer help? If I can, yes!
Have you ever donated Christmas presents to children of poor families? We used to do that when I was a kid.
Have you ever had to rely on other people's charity? One Christmas when I was really young I remember my parents signed up for a sponsorship through the Salvation Army where a family adopted us and bought us Christmas presents and Christmas dinner or whatever.
How do you feel about donating to charities endorsed by celebrities? I would never donate to a charity simply because it was sponsored by a celebrity but I guess its the easiest way for a charity to get the word out that they need donations.
Is there a charity you absolutely never ever will not trust? PETA, Salvation Army, Goodwill, and that breast cancer one with the horrible CEO.
Have you ever donated to a cause that had a person going door to door? No. I extra wouldn’t if someone came knocking on my door asking for money.
In general, what is your opinion on charity? I already did my rant about them, haha.
Section 8 – Entertainment
Which was the very first video game you remember playing? Ocarina of Time I believe!
Which was the very first film you remember watching? That I don’t remember. Maybe that Barney movie with the magic egg?
What is your go-to form of entertainment? TikTok usually.
Do you have a large collection of DVDs/Blu-Rays? Nah. We have a drawer but we usually stream everything.
How about music albums? Beebs collects vinyls!
Do you prefer to have your music on vinyls, tapes, CDs or digital? I prefer digital and Beebs likes vinyl.
When and where do you like to entertain yourself usually? Either the bed or the couch.
Do you ever binge watch shows? If so, what are you binging now? Usually! I’m sadly in between shows rn.
What kinds of books do you like to read, if any? I honestly don’t read anymore.
Is there a book series you're currently collecting? ..
Is entertainment something you prefer to enjoy alone or with someone else? I have my shows and then we have shows we watch together. So there’s a time and place for both!
Section 9 – Internet
Do you always have access to the Internet, wherever you go? If not, why? Yup!
Which website do you frequent the most? Website website? Google. App website? Instagram or TikTok.
Which search engine do you prefer and trust the most? Googs.
What do you use the Internet the most for? Social media or entertainment.
Do you judge people who have their phones out all the time? If so, why? Random people? None of my business. But if we’re spending time together and I’m trying to have a conversation with you and you're not paying attention to me because your nose is glued to your phone, I’m gonna be pissed.
If your connection goes down, what do you do? Go do something that’s not on the internet?
Is there something you wish you could do online that isn't possible yet? I still wish you could smell things through the internet.
Do you remember the first time you used the Internet? When was it? Yes! I believe the 2nd/3rd grade?
What was a website you used to frequent that doesn't exist anymore? I loved the Disney website with all the games.
Do/Did you ever have your own website? That was the thiiiing back in the day.
Isn't it great how much knowledge and info we have at our fingertips? It’s great but also overwhelming.
Section 10 – And finally...
What is something you consider to be highly controversial? Politics, apparently.
What kinds of jokes do you like the best? I love a good pun.
Is there a person who makes you laugh effortlessly? Oh definitely.
Which part of your body do you like the least? My eyes.
What's something random, out of context you remember from your past? I don’t do well with really vague questions.
Do you wear shoes indoors? No, I’m not a heathen.
What's the silliest thing you've worn on your body in public? I don’t think I usually wear silly things.
What's the most important thing in your life right now? Just spending time with my fam. Trying to get over this anxiety.
What is the most distant point on the planet that you've been from home? Florida.
Do you enjoy trivia games? If so, which one's your favourite? We love some Trivial Pursuit in this house!
Are you more logical or emotional? My emotions take over and then my logic brings it back in. Equal parts, baby.
All About the Letter L
Please List! (at least one) Animals I Like: Lions, lemurs, lamb, and a special mention to Lhasa Apsos because Gabie’s family has one, even though Harley never particularly liked me haha. Foods I Like: LUMPIA, liempo, lasagna, and lobster.    I Know Someone Who’s (jobs): Lab assistant, librarian, lawyer, and lecturer. I Wouldn’t Mind Visiting: Luxembourg, Laos, and Lisbon, Portugal. Sometimes I Feel: Lethargic, let-down, lonely.
Music I Listen To: Lady Gaga, LANY, Lauv, Lykke Li, Lianne La Havas, and Lea Salonga. Movies I’ve Seen: Love Actually, The Little Mermaid, Lolita, Lucy, Life is Beautiful, Les Misérables. Names I Like: Lily, Lorin, Loretta, Lucia. And now, onto the random questions! 1. Have you ever locked yourself out of your house before? Not on purpose. Once when I was in fourth grade the school bus dropped me off but there was no one home (at that point I wasn’t given my own key yet) so my sister and I had to wait around half an hour till someone got back home. Other times I always had a house key with me. 2. Do you like green leaves or autumn colored leaves? Idk we don’t get autumn, so I’ll go with green. 3. Are you a sore loser at games? Yeaaaaaaaah haha it’s an ugly fucking trait of mine. I’ve treated everything like a competition for as long as I can remember and I was the worst kid to play with. 4. Are you a good listener? Yes. I prefer to listen than to do the talking, so I’ve gotten better at it through the years. 5. Who do you like? Who do you love? I like my friends; I love my dogs and my girlfriend. 6. Lamps - do you have wall ones, table ones, or freestanding tall ones in your house? My parents have wall lamps in their room. My mom was actually looking at floor lamps for the living room just recently, but she didn’t push through with buying one, idk why. 7. How often do you use the library? Back in my first year it was my sanctuary because I had no friends. The library was the only place where you can be alone and not feel judged for it. When my circle got bigger, I’d only go there to print stuff and that happened at least once a week. 8. Do you own a label maker? Do you label everything to stay organized? No, I don’t own one. Funny how my favorite TV characters – Monica Geller and Amy Santiago – both have a penchant for being organized and have their own label makers though haha. 9. Do you prefer lip gloss or lipstick? Lip gloss. Lipstick has always looked too strong on me. 10. Have you ever done the limbo? As a kid. It’s not a common game here but because we saw it a lot when we’d watch kids’ shows from the west, my siblings, cousins, and I would play it. 11. Have you ever played “The Floor is Lava”? Sure. 12. Is YOUR mama a llama? An occasionally emotionally abusive one, sure. 13. Do you lick your ice cream or just bite into it like some sort of savage? I take forever to eat ice cream so I’ve learned to bite it so that it doesn’t end up dripping all over my hands. 14. Do you know anyone who has lung cancer? Walter White. Hahaaaaaaa seriously though, no one. 15. Have you ever gotten lost before? Yeah, but those instances were nothing Waze couldn’t fix. I think I’d get an anxiety attack if I ever got legitimately lost with no map or app to help me. 16. Do you lounge around like a lazy sloth? If I know I’ve earned the right to, yes. 17. What little things make you happy? Driving through green lights, seeing a smiley face on my Starbucks cup, kind strangers, free cuts, finding a top I thought I’ve lost, babies waving at me. 18. Are you a loud or quiet person? I can be both, depending on who I’m with, what the circumstances are, and how comfortable I am. 19. What do you like to eat for lunch? I’ve skipped on lunch since March since my family eats breakfast really late lol. But back in school, since I’m usually on the go during lunch hours, I’ll just get a plate of instant noodles with a side of kwek-kwek. 20. Are you a list-maker? Yaaas. Love lists. 21. Have you ever had lice? Just when I was around 10 when I still played outside.  22. How much weight can you lift? I’m a really small person so not a lot, but by the end of my PE class last year I was able to deadlift either 80 or 90 lbs, I’m not sure which. It’s not a big number but I weigh 90 lbs myself sksksksk so I’m happy enough with being able to lift my own weight haha. 23. The last pair of shoes you wore - did they have laces? Yep. 24.  Do you litter? Never. 25.  Have you ever written or received a love letter? No, actually. Gab has other ways of expressing herself so I’m okay with it. 26. Are you a liar? How often do you tell lies? I’m honestly quite incapable of lying. I can say little white lies like “I liked your article” but anything beyond that I just feel too guilty doing. 27.  what do you do when you feel low on energy? Spend time with Kimi, get away from my phone, and lie down somewhere. 28.  Have you ever ridden in a limousine before? I haven’t. 29.  How often do you do laundry? My parents do it once a week. 30. How many languages can you speak fluently? Two. With enough context clues I can read a bit of Spanish and Cebuano, but I definitely can’t speak them. [a-zebra-is-a-striped-horse]
Tag, You’re It!: Shinsou x Witch!Reader (END!)
Tumblr media
Part 6 to Part 5: https://chocolatekitsune.tumblr.com/post/181969628794/tag-youre-it-shinsou-x-witchreader-pt-5
Pt. 6: Tagged (Final!)
“TAG!! YOU’RE IIIII…” In your rush, you didn’t see that Bakugou rather easily ducked out of the way before you could tag him, and instead your palm pressed onto someone else’s chest. Blinking, you slowly and reluctantly stared up to see a VERY angry looking Aizawa who glared down at you with his angry, glowing red eyes.
“(Y/N)…”
A gulp was heard from you. Bakugou ALMOST felt sorry for you, but at the same time he couldn’t help but smirk and snicker a bit, especially since this just meant that YOU were the loser in the end.
Nervously, you grinned and held your hands up. “I know you’re mad Mr. Aizawa but to be fair… to be fair… to be fair…” You took a long, dramatic moment of silence before continuing your sentence. “Today was boring as hell. And we needed a goddamn break, so… that’s why I told them all to play tag, it’s all on me. Give me punishment but not them.” Finally, you owned up to starting the game, much to everyone’s surprise. However, of course their respect for you went up a little bit when you took responsibility.
As for Aizawa, he sighed a bit and pinched the bridge of his nose. “While it’s good that you’re owning up to what you started… don’t think this means you’re off the hook for fooling around instead.” He visibly softened but wasn’t going to NOT give you punishment since once again, you completely disobeyed and went against his rules.
“So I’m not in trouble?” You asked with a cheeky smile, even though it just served to irk your teacher. “No. You’re definitely in trouble.” He replied quickly, but he remained calm and unflappable even though you always manage to get under his skin. Sighing, you took that, but to your surprise…
“A game of tag?! Why didn’t anyone tell me?!” All-Might suddenly arrived, and in his heroic form with his trademark smile that never ceased to amaze your classmates.
“A-All-Might?!” You and Midoriya exclaimed in surprise and awe, wondering just when exactly he got here. However, you started to grin now that the ex-hero was here and raised your hand. “Yes! Young (L/N)?”
“Sir… I’m sorry I didn’t invite you. If you were here boy that would have made things a TON more interesting…” You admitted with a smirk, but you flinched when All-Might went into a coughing fit and reverted to his weakened form. Though his attitude remained the same…
“I see… it’s a shame… I used to play that game all the time when I was a school boy… I’m assuming that you brought up this game in hopes of improving on evasive skills while allowing your classmates to utilize their quirks?” The ex-hero asked you, and you just innocently nodded. “Yes sir. That’s exactly why I brought up this game… AND… admittedly I wanted to have some fun… I mean I get that we’re heroes in training and all, but my friends and I needed to have a little bit of fun too.” You added, and the look of understanding on All-Might’s face was all you needed to know that he wasn’t going to be mad at you for it.
“Hm. I see. I suppose you kids ARE still young…” He let out a sigh. “With all the ordeals you’ve had to suffer, this wasn’t a bad idea… I can tell that you all had some fun in this.” All-Might deducted when he saw a few bit of smiles (except from Bakugou and Todoroki of course) and sensed mostly positive and youthful energy from the students.
“EXACTLY.” You smiled and nodded up at the hero, who smiled back at you.
“And how did you fare in this game Young Midoriya?” All-Might then asked his protégé, who perked up and started to sweat a little bit. “Oh… um…”
But then you put your arm around your second best friend with a snicker, “Sorry All-Might… but as soon as I tagged Bakugou, he tagged Greenie here… sure he managed to evade everyone else, at least I think he did, so… meh… he did his best.” You answered for him, much to the green-haired boy’s embarrassment.
“(Y-Y/N)…! Don’t say it like that…” Midoriya blushed, especially with how close you were as you practically hugged him tight. The only thing that alarmed him was the smirk rising on your face. “Hey All-Might… why don’t YOU play with us this time? I lost the first game… but another one’ll do, it’ll be more of a challenge… anything goes…” You suggested, and most of your class all gasped lightly at the idea of another game of Tag when the first one was pretty intense yet thrilling.
“No.” Aizawa said flatly, but All-Might was quick to take up your offer, and in turn he took up his strong form yet again. “An excellent idea young (L/N)!” He exclaimed, and you threw your fists in the air.
“YES! It’s anything goes now! Thirty minutes this time! Mr. Aizawa’s it though! Cuz I tagged him last! Let’s go!” Immediately you took off running, grabbing Midoriya’s hand as he shouted in shock but let you take him away from your teacher. And you were pleasantly surprised to see that many of your classmates were glad to follow you and split up to find someplace to hide.
As for Aizawa. He took a huge sigh, seeing that for once there was nothing he could do, or rather he COULD if he really wanted to but at this moment, secretly he decided that this wasn’t too bad. His students earned a day of playing after everything they’ve been through.
“Use your quirks! Don’t hesitate! And don’t leave yourself wide open!” All-Might called out to the running teenagers but flinched once he felt a hand tap him on the back, and he turned to face the grinning pro-hero.
“Tag. You’re it.” He said, and reacted quick by getting away fast, much to the shock of the ex-hero. However, he nonetheless laughed it off and kept smiling.
“NOW I AM IT!” All-Might declared, which of course startled you and all your friends as everything quickly turned chaotic as soon as he tagged Bakugou and the last thing you remember is that Bakugou proceeded to tag you, and then you tagged Todoroki, and everything went downhill from there…
“TAG! YOU’RE IT!!”
“No I’m not! You’re it!”
“Tag, you’re it…”
“Tag!”
“Tag! You’re it.”
“No You’re it!”
“Tag! You’re it!”
“Now you’re it!”
It was full-on madness, yet you weren’t complaining. However, the last thing you expected was for Present Mic to show up and get tagged by Kaminari. Or for Present Mic to start tagging the teachers in the school, which lead to the students in Class B, Class C, Class D and the General Studies students…
“AHAHAHAHA~! You weren't careful enough~ And now you’re it!” Monoma was the first to instigate the wide-spread game of tag, as he started off by tagging Tetsutetsu, who was all too enthusiastic about the game as he and his classmates started tagging each other, and then some left to tag the students in General Studies...
“TAG YOU’RE IT NOW!”
“Tag! You’re it!”
“HA! Now you’re it!”
“TAG!”
“YOU’RE IT!”
“TAG!!”
“TAG YOU’RE IT!”
“HAHA! I DID THIS! I AM A GOD!!” You cheerfully shouted in between all of the chaos when seeing every student running around in the wicked game you wove, missing the annoyed sigh coming from Shinsou as he stood behind you, along with the very nervous trio of Midoriya, Uraraka, Iida and a perplexed Todoroki watched all of the madness…
5 Hours Later…
Everyone was surprisingly exhausted from all the running around and relentlessly tagging each other, but they came back feeling somewhat happy and partially relieved from one of their only days of free-spirited fun. Especially because they knew that this would be one of their few days of fun since next week will have them go back to training, and probably twice as much homework as punishment from Aizawa.
And on top of that, it turns out there was one winner…
Hagakure. Who wasn’t tagged once because nobody could find her due to her invisibility. “Yay! I won! I won!” The invisible girl chirped, now in clothes that let her be partially seen as she happily cheered with the girls, as the boys all gloomed a little bit.
“She had the best advantage…”
“There’s no way…”
“Any of us could have seen her…”
Sero, Kirishima and Kaminari each muttered a bit in defeat, since they definitely got tagged more than once during the second round of tag. However, both boys still had fun, and secretly wanted to play it again sometime.
As for you…
Needless to say, you definitely got in trouble for starting a game of Tag that spiraled out of control when EVERYONE in UA started participating with the help of All-Might and spread out to the rest of the school. However, because All-Might took responsibility you only thankfully had to do ALL the chores and clean-up in the dorms and everyone’s rooms.
“Hehe… I don’t know why people complain about this, it’s so easy.” You said breezily as you used your telekinesis to easily carry everyone’s trash to throw away, without any effort of course. Something that you never ceased to flaunt to your friends as you happily walked and hummed now that you were finished.
“You played good today!” As soon as you saw Bakugou, you grinned widely at him even though he just growled and glared at you. “Shut up you damn cheater! I wouldn’t have even had to play if you hadn’t tagged me in the first place!!” He shouted angrily, obviously not as happy or relieved as the others since today felt like nothing but a waste of time. In fact, it felt just like elementary school.
“Ah you’re just mad cuz you didn’t win.” You replied neutrally and smirked at the seething blonde.
“That’s coming from the first loser! I did a hell of a lot better than you did! All you did was fuck around!!”
“That’s right, and I loved it! And you know what? I’d do it again!” You stuck your tongue at him, passing by as he huffed in annoyance.
“Idiot…”
“Good night~.” However, you sang-songed to him one last time, almost smirking when glanced at you before scoffing at you.
Smiling, you rolled your eyes. ‘What an ass.’ You thought to yourself, but you were glad to see another friend who wasn’t a frenemy. “Toto!”
“(L/N)”.
“So… did you have fun today?” You asked him that question repeatedly today, and finally he gave you a satisfactory answer along with a little smile and chuckle of amusement.
“More than I thought.” He admittedly calmly, but your reaction was pretty much the opposite as you grinned and laughed triumphantly. “AHAHAHA~! I knew it! I knew I’d get you to have fun somehow!”
“As I recall, you had said that I ‘didn’t know how to have fun’.” His smile turned into a small smirk, causing your eyes to widen in genuine surprise, but your smile returned as you clapped your hands. “Shouto… you son of a bitch you are full of surprises… ha! Well… I can’t tell you how glad I am to hear that. I was hoping you’d be able to loosen up after a dull-ass week of training.” You gave him a thumbs-up and a pat on the shoulder, but you were confused when he looked just a little bit nervous.
“You’re not tagging me are you?” Even though the game was over, he had to ask you. Blinking twice, you burst into laughter, and thankfully to Todoroki you didn’t see him blush a warm pink because he initially thought you were laughing at him.
“Oh God no, no not tonight… I’m in quite a lot of trouble, if I started another game… I mean, it’d be hilarious, but Mr. Aizawa will probably kill me if I started something at this hour.” You nervously admitted, much to your friend’s amusement.
“Good point. Well… thank you for today. I never played Tag until today, it was surprisingly enjoyable. I understand it now.” He politely thanked you, his smile doing something to your chest as you blushed and felt a little bit bashful. “Aww… you’re welcome Toto.” You exchanged smiles and then you giggled a bit.
“We gotta do that AGAIN though.” You declared. Todoroki didn’t complain, in fact his pleased expression was enough for you to know that he was down for that.
“I won’t mind that.” He affirmed for you, making you giggle and clap your hands excitedly, “Yaaaay~. Hee-hee… good night Shouto~.” Waving at him almost flirtatiously, this time you saw Todoroki blush as he smiled at you, almost nervously, yet his reply was still calm. “Good night (Y/N).”
Afterwards, you could go to your dorm-room happy that everyone, well mostly everyone had fun and you got to have the day full of excitement you had been looking for.
“Hey.” And Shinsou sitting in your bed with his casual, lazy demeanor sparked even more excitement in you even though you were secretly surprised. “Hitoshi~!” But you weren’t complaining at all as you quickly flipped your shoes off and plopped right next to him on your bed.
“Today was pretty wild eh?” Giggling, your remote floated over to you and landed right in your hand and shut your door with your mind.
“What do you expect? When you make a plan, everything’s wild.” He replied to you in a deadpan tone, but he did give you a smile to indicate that despite the craziness, it WAS fun. Aside from the way Todoroki looked at you.
“Haha you know it… but it’s cool now… well... since there's no Madison to bother us, thank God... Aristocats?” You smiled at him, getting out the DVD as Shinsou’s smile grew just a little bit more. And it warmed your heart knowing that those smiles were for you, and only you.
“Yes.” Shinsou nodded as you grinned and giddily giggled, happily putting the movie in your player and pressing ‘play’ to start it up. Sitting nice and close to a somewhat flustered, now bashful looking Shinsou.
“Hey… Hitoshi. What is it you wanted to tell me? Before I called Todoroki you looked like you wanted to say something, what was it?” You then asked him because you remembered that Shinsou seemed like he had something to tell you before you got distracted by Todoroki. However, once you brought that back up Shinsou started to blush more than he wanted, and for once he was at a loss for words as he averted your eyes and struggled to come up with an explanation.
“Oh, right... I was only going to say that…” He began slow, which you found a little odd since Shinsou wasn’t the type to be so hesitant, and you had no idea how nervous you were making him with the way your (E/C) eyes practically stared into his soul. Secretly, he thanked all the deities for making you not have the power to read minds, you had a variety of powers but thankfully you weren’t a clairvoyant like Nan, that one witch you often mentioned. As much as he wanted to tell you, something kept him from doing so. Fear? Maybe...
“Your shoe was untied the whole time.” Shinsou finally settled on a lie, far from his best one but it was all he could come up with on the spot. Blinking, you made a bit of a face. “No it wasn’t…” You were sure that couldn’t have been true, although you didn’t really pay attention to your shoes at the time, but you had no idea that Shinsou was denying that.
“It was at the time. You weren’t paying attention.” You pouted and grunted in light annoyance at the way he smirked at you, now you were starting to think that your best friend had just been messing with you as he often did, but you never really minded. That was just yours and Shinsou's thing.
"Whatever. The movie's starting." Now it was your turn to smirk as you scooted closer towards him. As your sides touched you hugged his arm and deliberately placed your head on his shoulder purely to fluster him. And you had to resist the urge to snicker when you felt him shaking slightly. Shinsou swallowed hard as his face flushed very hot from the proximity. You little witch...
But instead of shying away, he slowly brought his arm around you, making you nearly jump in surprise as you looked up at him in surprise, purple eyes locked with (E/C) eyes in a stare before he smiled at you, "Tag. You're it." He said to you playfully. His tone causing you to blush as you coyly smiled back at him, and nuzzled into him warmly as the Aristocats' opening song played.
"And now you're it~."
scenario of todoroki and a female reader who is optimistic, cheerful, friendly, and really affectionate?? he goes and confesses to her and her first reaction is to crack a bunch of self deprecating jokes but todoroki comforts her n stuff,,? thank you !!!!
Heey dear anon! self depreciating jokes are well and good, but i’m just putting it out there that they can be harmful because we’re making comedy out of our own insecurities and at our own expense :) not super healthy. hope you’re doing alright dear!
Ahead of him, always ahead of him in some way or another. Light and weightless and free as if you didn’t have a care in the world, kind words and helpful actions always just an outstretched hand away. You embodied the sun: warm, comforting, energetic, life-giving.
And here he was, still stuck in the shadows of the past.
Todoroki was severely aware of his misgivings when it came to his personality and how he acted around other people. He hadn’t exactly grown up in the most nurturing environment, so he was sort of…learning as he went. Even so, everyone - especially you - seemed so far ahead, too far for even your hand to reach.
Your laughter was like music, your smile like a beautiful painting. More than once he caught himself staring, turning away in shame, knowing you were something he couldn’t catch up to.
“Hey guys! Ready for training today? I know it’ll be awesome!” you said while laughing, giving Ochaco a playful punch to the arm and Midoriya a noogie.
“(y/n) you’re in a good mood today!” Iida exclaimed, always observant of the obvious.
“Ha yeah, but that’s really nothing new for you, though. You’re always so cheerful,” Ochaco agreed, giving you a playful tap back.
“Ha, yeah well, gotta counteract me being trash and all that!”
“Huh, um, why-” Midoriya stuttered out.
“C’mon let’s get changed!” You dragged all three of them out the door to the training area, Todoroki standing off to the side. Left behind yet again.
Training day was average, nothing extraordinary. But…maybe something snapped in Todoroki. Seeing you talk so easily with everyone else, crack jokes - sometimes at your own expense - made him almost jealous. What if someone asked you out and you said yes? Then he’d truly never catch up to your light. And he was tired of living in the shadows of other people.
As class was filing out and you gathered up your books, someone touched your shoulder gently. Looking up you were met with Todoroki’s beautiful eyes, the very same ones you hoped he never caught you staring into.
“Oh, hey Todoroki-kun! How are you? Wanna-”
“Go out with me.”
Stunned silence.
“Wh…what?”
Todoroki cleared his throat, but didn’t break eye contact. “Uh, sorry. I meant…will you go out with me? I like you.” All he could think to do was be completely honest with how he felt. He wasn’t poetic, couldn’t write a lengthy confession note, so the best he could do was string together simple words that made sense and were completely true.
“L-like a date?”
“Yeah.”
“Oh c’mon you don’t wanna date me I’m such a loser ya know? So ditzy and clumsy haha!” It was a defense mechanism, resorting to putting yourself down first so you couldn’t be hurt if other people did it.
Todoroki was a taken aback by your words. “Loser…? You’re not a loser at all, though.”
All you could think to do was laugh. “But I am, though! Just a big ol’ trash can, that’s me!” Todoroki reached forward and put his hands on your shoulders to stop your fidgeting.
“Don’t put yourself down. You’re tangible light, you make people happy, you’re strong, you have good friends. And my confession isn’t a joke. I meant what I said.”
You were stunned into silence. Everyone usually brushed off your jokes, went along with the gag, even joined in every once in a while. But Todoroki was building you up, separating the joke from the girl.
“Uh…Todoroki-kun. Sorry. I’m…I dunno why I say shit like that sometimes. But…thanks. I mean it. And yeah, I’ll go out with you.”
A smile appeared on his face, and you smiled back.
Day 14: Confess
“And then, I would confess to him, but, oh, I can't do that, can I-”
“Of course you can! You can do anything, Marinette!”
Marinette huffed, blushing, curling up in the corner of her bed where she and Alya sat, discussing the logistics of Marinette’s longtime crush.
“You've been friends for like, almost a year, babe, I know you wouldn't be ruining your guys’ friendship. You want him to know, don't you?”
“Yeah, but, like… only if he likes me back,” squeaked Marinette.
“Marinette,” Alya assured gently, placing her hand on her friend’s shoulder. “He will. He does.”
“You don't know that.”
“Sure I do.”
“But what if he doesn't!? I know you say it wouldn't ruin our friendship, but wouldn't it be awkward if he knew I liked him? And he didn't like me back!? I know it’d make me feel pretty guilty…”
“But c’mon, think about it; You're still friends with Nathaniel, and you know he had a crush on you. And Nino did, too. Remember? It'll work out, no matter what, okay?”
“Okay…” Marinette was obviously still unsure. “I guess…”
Alya didn't know what else to say to reassure her. She wanted her friends to stop dancing around their obvious crushes on each other and just get together already. And she knew that, as ridiculous as it may sound looking at Marinette’s shy disposition and obvious aversion to making the first move, the blue-haired girl had to be the one to initiate in this situation. Adrien was adorable and oh so sweet, and Alya loved him to pieces, but he was just downright oblivious. He didn't know he had a crush on Mari, but he did. She knew he did. It was obvious to everyone but himself... and Marinette.
Their entire class was getting sick and tired of hearing the two pine over each other so air-headedly. Marinette, at least, knew that she was gushing over him. Adrien didn't even seem to have a clue what he was doing. In his defense, he was extremely repressed, and had never actually had friends before (Chloé notwithstanding) let alone a girlfriend.
“Girl,” Alya sighed. “Don't worry so much. If you're not ready to confess to Adrien, then you don't have to. I think you should, but this is about you, not me. It's okay if you don't yet.”
“No, I do want to!” Marinette suddenly exclaimed. “I do! I wanna tell him.” Then she pouted, excitement levels plummeting. “I'm just scared. I'm scared of what he’ll say, and I'm scared of what I’ll say, I'm so bad with my words, what if I just say something embarrassing…”
“It'll be fine, Marinette. I'm sure of it.”
“Okay…”
“You’re going on another coffee date with him tomorrow after school, aren't you?”
“Well, not a date, no, just a-”
“And you said you were wanting to tell him then, right?”
“Yeah… But… No… I don't know.” Marinette sighed heavily. “I did say that. But what if I can't?”
“Then it's no big deal! There's no pressure, Mari. Like, go for it, but don't feel bad if you have to stay in your comfort zone either. You're Adrien’s best friend! I'm sure he doesn't want to make you uncomfortable either. He will understand. No matter what happens, it'll be okay. I'm sure.”
“One hundred percent?”
“One hundred thousand percent.”
“That's not how percentages work,” Marinette smiled as Alya pulled her in for a hug.
“You'll do fine. Now, c’mon, let's go have some of those cookies your dad’s making. You'll feel better.”
Marinette and Adrien sat in the café, sipping their drinks in relative silence. Adrien smiled at her, she fidgeted with the hem of her top under the table.
“So, Marinette,” Adrien broke the silence.
Marinette looked up at him from where she’d been hyper fixated on the one loose string coming off of her shirt. “Hm?”
“Have you played the new Mecha Strike game yet?”
“Oh, uh, no. I haven't bought it yet. Is it any good?”
“It's awesome! You should come over and play it sometime!”
Like a date? thought Marinette. Yeah. That was smooth. She imagined herself saying it five separate times, with different hand movements and mannerisms, but the words just couldn't come out of her mouth for some reason. She looked down at her hands.
“Y-yeah, for sure! I'd love that…” Her mouth suddenly felt really dry, and she wished that she had ordered something besides a coffee.
“Marinette? Is something wrong?”
“Uhh, n-no… no…”
“You sure?” Adrien tilted his head to the side a little, curious but perfectly concerned. Marinette melted down into her seat under his questioning gaze.
“Uh, um, I, the, uh,” she stammered. She knew that she should tell him -- he already knew something was on her mind… But she really hadn’t wanted to make a scene about it. She wanted to curl up and pout; barely 10 minutes in and she was ruining everything already.
Adrien was still just looking at her, with that worry in his lovely green eyes, and his lips set into a slight frown.
“I-it’s not…” she managed, swallowing the lump in her throat. “It’s nothing. Really.”
“Are you sure?” It was obvious that Adrien didn’t believe her.
Ughhhhhhhhhhh.
Marinette tried to remind herself of what Alya had said. It would go fine, no matter what.
“If there’s something on your mind, you can tell me.” Adrien’s eyes were gazing into her soul, in a way she normally would have loved, but right now, she just couldn’t bear it. She stared down at her lap.
“There… is something, I guess. B-but it’s not a big deal.”
“If it’s upsetting you, then-”
“N-no, I’m not upset! Just… nervous.” Marinette met Adrien’s wide eyes finally, offering him the most petite of smiles. He seemed to light up at it, and her heart felt like it was going to burst out of her chest. He was so wonderful...
“I like you,” she blurted out suddenly. She then gasped at herself, slapping a hand over her mouth.
“No, no, no, don’t be embarrassed.” Adrien’s cheeks were tainted a faded pink. “What did you say?”
“I-I, um…!” Marinette’s voice came out as a small, high-pitched squeak. “I-I… I l-l-li….”
Adrien blinked at her.
“Like… you…”
“Like me?” he echoed.
Marinette nodded very slightly, burning up with embarrassment.
“You…” Adrien quickly rouged at the realisation. “Oh, um…”
Marinette was avoiding looking at him, hoping that if she concentrated hard enough, she could cease to exist and become one with the leather chair; willing an akuma to burst through the window of the cafe and kill her and Adrien both to end this misery.
“Marinette, I…” Adrien swallowed, chuckling nervously and rubbing his neck. “I think I like you, too.”
Marinette looked up, wide-eyed. Her lips parted in a small ‘o’ of surprise. She couldn’t even find the words to express how she felt. Really? She wanted to say. For real? You, Adrien Agreste, like me, Marinette Dupain-Cheng? There’s no mix-up here? Really really? But the words didn’t come out. She just continued to gape.
“M-Marinette? You’re making me nervous here.”
“Oh! Um! Oh gosh…”
“Haha, it’s alright…”
“No, I…”
“It’s okay… y-you don’t have to say anything…”
“Okay.”
They looked at each other, each embarrassed for their own silly and nonsensical reasons. They both liked each other! There was really no need for any of this. But that was okay.
“So, are we like-- did-did you wanna be like...” Adrien said, clearing his throat. The next word came out in a whisper that sounded a little bit scared, and very unsure: “Dating?”
Marinette would have laughed at his treatment of the word ‘dating’, but it sounded fairly foreign to her, too. She swallowed. “Only…. Only if you wanted to be.”
“I think I want to be.”
“Really?”
Marinette stared up at him, eyes still blown wide. Adrien cracked a smile finally.
“Absolutely.”
Marinette thought she might melt. “O-okay!”
The rest of the date went on comfortably, and almost the same as normal, except Marinette caught Adrien blushing and stuttering, and Adrien couldn’t stop noticing the girl’s adorable freckles…
Even though it hadn’t exactly gone the way Marinette had planned, she was still ecstatic.
The pair both went home that evening with big, dumb smiles on their faces that they couldn’t shake off.
--
When Adrien arrived finally in the sanctuary of his room, his kwami emerged from his coat pocket, and immediately started laughing, as if he had been about to burst the entire date from holding in all of his teasing side comments.
“What was with all that stuttering?” Plagg howled. “Aren’t you normally cooler than that? Where’s Chat Noir, huh? Who’s this loser!?”
“Shut up!”
“I’ve never heard you so nervous! What were you even nervous about -- you already knew she liked you back!”
Adrien was bright red with embarrassment. “Yeah, but… I dunno, Plagg. She just… She’s so…!” He failed to find a comparison. “Even Ladybug has never made me feel that way before. She’s really somethin’ special.”
Plagg rolled his eyes at his chosen, who was sprawled across his couch in a theatrical swoon, looking like a human version of the heart eyes emoji. “I’ll never understand you.”
“Me either,” sighed the blond boy, sounding nothing short of delirious.
Plagg shook his head. “I’m still proud o’ you, though.”
“Proud of me? Why?”
“Ehhh…” the kwami shrugged. “Well... You’re alright, kid.”
Adrien didn’t really understand what that meant, but he’d accept any compliment from the normally sarcastic kwami. “You’re alright, too.”
Adrien sighed dreamily again.
“I’m better than alright, though. I have a girlfriend, Plagg. Oh wow… That feels kinda funny to say, doesn’t it… Girlfriend…” Adrien was giggling like a baby, or someone high on something you can only find in a dentist’s office.
“Alright, I take it back. I don’t even have words for how much you’re embarrassing me, Adrien. I’m going to ignore you now.”
“Mmm, okay.”
“I’m serious.”
“Uh huh.”
“Like, if an akuma attacked right now, I wouldn’t even hear you say ‘transform me.’ Although you probably wouldn’t notice it anyway, you wouldn’t notice an akuma even if it punched you in the face, you’re so wrapped up in your own little world here.”
Adrien just laughed lightly. “Yup, sure, whatever.”
“Whoa, wait, I’m ignoring you, you’re not ignoring me. Stop that. I’m trying to complain about you.”
“Mmmhmm.”
“Hey!!”
Adrien closed his eyes and leaned back on the couch. Plagg continued to protest, but he had really stopped listening now. Marinette is my girlfriend….
“Hey, Adrien!! Adrien!!! Ugh, the nerve! Goddammit. He’s so dumb. He never listens. He’s an idiot. A lovesick idiot. She’s Ladybug, too. Not that he cares, no, he doesn’t even care. I know who Ladybug is and it’s his goddamn girlfriend and he doesn’t even care!” Plagg huffed. “Kids these days…”
boyfriend! kang daniel
how you meet kang daniel and what kind of boyfriend he is
school!au
so kang daniel is your classmate, and he’s that super popular but also funny person that all the students and teachers love
daniel is always surrounded by a group of fangirls, which naturally results in malicious rumors about how he’s a fuckboy
but daniel is in your math class and he sits right in front of you
at first you kind of had your preconceived opinions about him like “oh shit he’s a fuckboy i ain’t talking to no fuckboy”
but you’ll eventually start talking to him after he forgets his pencil one day and turns around to ask you for one with a pleading smile
and then you guys begin your miraculous friendship which consists of lots of debates about dogs vs cats, and you realize how much of a loser he actually is??
like where’s mr. popular i-play-3-sports guy??
all he talks about is cats, and he always shows you pictures of his cat
you guys start texting and 90% of your texts consists of arguments
like you’re a dog person but daniel is an aggressive cat advocate
“cats are way cuter than dogs”
“haha bET. who’s gonna be crying on your deathbed? not your goddamn cat bc that unloyal hoe is running off to find the next person to feed him”
daniel’s actually really spacey sometimes
like once after class when everyone was packing up, his hands fly to his pockets and he digs through his backpack in panic
and you’re just like “what’s wrong??”
and then he wildly looks around and says “i lost my phone”
but he actually gave you his phone to look through his cat pic album like 5 minutes ago and totally forgot
so you just wave his phone in front of his face and give him the “are you an idiot or are you an idiot” look
and he just sheepishly laughs and scratches the back of his head in embarrassment
that’s when you realize how fucking cute his smile is
and your heart is racing a little but you give yourself a pep talk like “no i am not falling for no goddamn fuckboy”
but of course love never goes the way you want it to and suddenly you start noticing that you stopped paying attention in math and started daydreaming about daniel
and one day daniel asks you to tutor him in math since he’s failing and desperately needs to pass the next test in order to not flunk the class
but in this world it’s give and take so you’re like “what’s in it for me”
by this time daniel knows you pretty well and he’s just like “free food + starbucks every day you tutor me”
and you’re thinking like “shit he’s loaded. pls be my sugar daddy”
so you start tutoring him after school at the starbucks across the street
you realize that daniel naturally picks things up right away but that he was just too lazy to study
50% of the time studying, other 50% arguing
daniel feels super comfortable with you now and he really appreciates that you see him as just kang daniel not mr. popular
since you go there everyday after school, the barista knows your names and orders already
and one day the barista goes “you guys are such a cute couple!”
and you’re too shocked to say anything but daniel immediately replies “thank you! we get that a lot”
after you get your drink, you turn to him and say “wtf was that?? stop joking, you piece of shit” while punching him lightly
but he just laughs and you notice how his eyes crinkle and you can’t help but laugh too
and then he whispers “but we could be a real thing if you want” and winks
you just laugh at him now bc you assume that he’s just messing around again “i hate you stfu”
but you miss the flash of disappointment in his eyes bc he was kind of testing the waters to see your hypothetical reaction
so now he’s convinced that you don’t like him and is really really disappointed ;;;
the next time you show up to class, he’s seems a little more distant
like he won’t laugh at your stupid jokes as much and you’ll be like “is something wrong,,,” and he’ll just shake his head and brush you off
and this continues for like the next few days so you know something is wrong
but you decide to leave it alone since you respect other people’s privacy (cough cough)
he’ll probably tell you when he’s ready right?
anyways at lunch you’re just chilling with your friends, minding your own business and trying to forget about daniel, but ong seongwoo comes out of nowhere and drags you to the nearest hallway
and you’re like “woah what’s up”
and he gives you this disapproving mom look
“did you really just reject daniel?”
“um what the fuck? where did you get this fake news from”
so ong has to explain to your oblivious ass that daniel likes you
but you’re like “um sorry no your jokes are not funny”
better being pessimistic than getting played amirite
and so he literally drags you to daniel who is sitting alone and listening to his emo playlist with his bangs over his eyes looking like a fucking member of my chemical romance or some shit bc the only girl he liked thinks he’s a joke
“tell her already jesus christ stop listening to that goddamn emo shit”
and ong leaves you two alone
you just end up staring at daniel wondering what kind of drugs he took today to end up like this
and then daniel ends up spurting some incomprehensible confession, “sorryireallylikeyouandididntknowwhattodobecauseithoughtyouhated me???”
he kind of turns red and gets embarrassed and really pouty
but you’re just thinking of how cute he is and how much you really want to poke his cheeks
“wtf did kang daniel just say he likes me” never goes through your head bc you’re a boss ass bitch and everyone fucking loves you okay no need to act surprised
and when you don’t say anything he’s just like “i just ruined our friendship didn’t i”
“um sorry but what’s in it for me” is your response, and you give him a wink
he immediately looks relieved and starts laughing “free hugs and cuddles and kisses from me”
and daniel is such a sweet boyfriend
like he always notices the littlest things about you and puts you before anything else
loves cuddling and back hugs!!!!
likes resting his head on the crook of your neck
nap time with dan is a thing with lots of cuddling
you wake up all the time wrapped in his arms
v protective,,, makes you walk on the inside of the sidewalk, always holds the umbrella for you,
gets jealous sometimes and just gets all pouty before you reassure him that there’s nothing to be jealous about
kind of touchy
not afraid of pda
smells like a mix of cinnamon and vanilla
aesthetic coffee shop dates!!!
“reminds me of the place where i fell in love with you”
dogs vs cats argument is still a thing
“okay fine dogs are cute too, but you’re still the cutest”
y’all are cute you have matching stüssy outfits (daniel’s idea)
blasts exo music 24/7
“daniel pls stop doing the kokobop challenge. we’re in public”
“choGIWA”
“chogiw—e’re breaking up”
“wait no i’m overdosed on your love!!”
biggest exo-l ever
that’s right my type is his favorite pick up line
cute mochi!!!!
like that pink peach thingy with the buck teeth is actually him
when he smiles, his buck teeth show, and it’s honestly so adorable
he wanted to get them fixed but you were like “um no?? how dare you even suggest that”
kind of insecure about his physical appearance sometimes bc of what happened in his past :(
but you assure him that he’s the sexiest mochi ball you’ve ever laid eyes on
okay but you were low key ready to get on the nearest train to busan and jump daniel’s former bullies
no but for real you were ready to clock some bitches
“what’s their kkt babe imma bout to track them down and make them catch these fucking fists”
“aww you’re so cute :’)”
notices small things about you
buys ice cream for you when you’re sad,
knows all your favorite foods so he can bribe you make you happy :)
overall 10/10 best boyfriend ever
I wrote the following draft on Friday, but I need to start off by saying that LA is mourning right now. It was an especially eerie day yesterday. I’m not much of a sports fan, but I grew up watching the Lakers during Kobe’s era. My dad’s best friend was a huge Lakers fan, and he got my dad into it, and my dad got our family into it. My dad would place bets at the local Cambodian noodle shop during basketball season and it was always a fun time following along. In a sense, I and many LA natives grew up with Kobe. Kobe has such a huge impact on our city (at the very least). I remember going to those Vietnamese barber shops in Chinatown, and seeing little Asian boys get their hair cut. “How do you want your cut?” the barber would ask? “Like Kobe” the kids would answer.
I heard the news after going to a yoga session at the park. My friend Steph, who also attended the yoga session with me, texted me a little right after I got home with the news. I was with my brother and SIL at the time, and we were stunned (not my SIL, she didn’t know who Kobe was), waiting for the news to unravel. My dad got home five minutes later, and I thought we would be the one to tell him the news. However, his friend Andy already texted him about it. We spent the rest of that morning waiting for more updates, learning about Kobe’s life, sitting around in shock. Til now, I still feel quite sad about the tragedy. But the best we can do is thank his contribution; legends never die.
Turned 28 last week and feel old-ish haha. Recap of the last few weeks
Sis in law threw a surprise bday party for my brother’s 30th at their apartment. Some drama has been going on between them and my parents, and a lot of it can be attributed to generational differences. My SIL is young, and in biological terms, her brain isn’t fully developed yet. She had that rich girl growing up in Cambodia lifestyle, and was pretty financially comfortable, although sheltered, when she was living in SF. My brother is kinda her bitch now, and he backs her on everything. SIL has pretty expensive taste, has a financial safety net from her parents, talks ambitiously, but we haven’t seen her progress much yet. Like Katy Perry’s song “You change your mind like a girl changes clothes” – that’s descriptive of her/my brothers plans. At one point, they decided to take over her uncles business in SF. She “moved” up there, then like two weeks later, told my brother to fly up there and help her move back down. It even gave me a headache.
Celebrated Mike’s 30th bday with a bunch of people in DTF. It was a bunch of fun and the food was surprisingly good. Mike made a little speech, saying he loves everyone who was at the table. We joked about how popular he is.
Went hiking with my aunt, sis in law, the kids, and friends.
Had a birthday dinner at pasta sisters with my immediate family (including bro and sis in law). My sis in law is a generous person, and also quite materialistic. She’s fancy for her age. This is advantageous because she got me a pair of lululemon pants as a birthday gift. I rarely receive expensive presents, so I felt pretty happy about it. I’ve also been wanting a nice expensive pair of yoga pants but thought it may be too frivolous. After trying it on, I understood what the type was about. In the back of my mind, I remembered in an episode of the patriot act, Hasan mentioned that a bunch of oil is used to make synthetics, the type of material used in lulus. Update: I wore it for the first time over the weekend to a yoga class, and it felt very comfortable, although the difference is not significant enough where I would buy my own.
My coworker decorated my office space and went out of her way to get me a specific cake from Glendale. I was never really that close or comfortable with this coworker, although we are the closest in age (3 years older than me). I felt that our lifestyles didn’t really align and that we didn’t have much in common. She was on the drill team in high school, very pretty and put together, fit body, into going to festivals/partying and drinking, not very academically inclined. Our conversations barely made it past surface level topics. However, I was really touched that she went all the way to Glendale to get a cake for me, just because she knew I liked this cake specifically and that I don’t really like sweets. For everyone’s birthdays, we normally just pick something up from Ralphs across the street. After this incident, I felt myself opening my heart to her more, and made an effort to connect with her. I find that it’s easier to connect once you actively choose to “like” a person, thus, to throw away judgment and allow human to human bonding.
Went to NOLA with G, S, and L. When people ask how my trip went, I would say, “it’s really different out there.” And it really is to me. I’m not at all familiar with that area of the country. I think the charm of NOLA lies in anachronism, and on the dysfunctionality of the city. People like the freedom of the city, the friendliness of the town, and how everyone can seemingly enjoy their lives despite any hardships that come their way. Some people on the internet refer to NOLA as Neverland, or an adult Disneyland. From what I’ve read, people there are very laid-back, prioritize fun, and it might be a frustrating place if you’re a go-getter. It seems like a good place for extroverts. I, personally, think one visit is enough. I think if you don’t gamble, drink, or party, the things you can do there are limited.
Besides that, I found the topic of voodoo interesting, although I felt like the voodoo shops we visited were largely touristy- it was hard to get an authentic feel of the locals/community’s beliefs and practices of voodoo. Luckily, one of my coworkers’ family is from Louisiana, and my student worker is from Belize. The day I returned from my trip, I got to chat with them a little and learn about their culture/religion. My coworker mentioned that her grandmother would always keep her hair in a jar and burn it every so often, to prevent anyone from getting her hair strands and practicing voodoo on her. She personally flushes her hair down the toilet. My student worker talked about their need to sweep their house every day from preventing dust buildup (I believe to keep spirits away).
Celebrated CNY with family.
Matt started on his first nights rotation last Wednesday night. It was a difficult transition because he had to work from 6am until noon or so for his day shift, then be on a 12 hour night shift that same night. He had a terrible first couple days adjusting, but now is better. It just sucks that we are now on completely different time zones. I’m unable to chat with him after work because he’s on shift. He goes home and falls asleep around 6am PST, during the time that I’m still asleep. I asked him to send me a card for my birthday. Although I received it days late, I was still grateful for his gift. He wrote me a very sweet message that filled up the card. Good news is, there will be 4 interns on the rotation that he will be on when I’m in town in February. That means that he’ll have less patients, be less exhausted, and have more time for me!
I watched Awkwafina’s Nora from Queens pilot over the weekend. In the show, she plays a “loser” 27 year old who can’t hold down a job and smokes weed every day, and still lives at home with her dad and grandma. The show is supposed to be representative of her life (before her fame). I couldn’t help but feel like I’m getting too old to still be living at home, and although I’ll need to spend money on rent when I move out, it’ll be a valuable investment.
Lastly, this past year seems to be the year of friendship confrontations for me. Growing up, I was very loner-ish and introverted. The hardest thing for me to do was socialize and “be normal”. I found it difficult to relate to people and to build connections with them. When I did start making friends, I was so behind on social skills that I had difficulty deepening friendships. One thing I am grateful for in my last relationship, is that it taught me how to handle conflict with someone else. Before that, I was never confrontational to anyone outside of my family. As I’m growing up, “finding myself” more, and developing my values and what I stand for/look for in companionship, I become stronger as an individual. I’m proud that I can be more honest with my friends, and be more verbal if someone/something bothers me. I look back on a few friendships that dissipated, and it’s usually due to something petty or fixable, if both parties let their ego down and communicated. But oh well, not all friendships/relationships are worth being salvaged.
You Came Back, For What Exactly?
Imagine: High School AU - Paired with Gally Hope you enjoy..?
Tumblr media
“Did you hear?” Newt asked Gally, sliding into the seat next to his friend at the Chemistry lab. “Hear what?” Gally asked, rolling his eyes, his pen in his mouth as he nervously tapped his foot as he reviewed notes for another class next period. “The new girl! The one that moved in behind your house last week? She’s supposed to start today. I heard that Teresa is supposed to have the same schedule as her, to be her guide or whatever, since she’s part of that new student/freshmen AVID program or whatever,” Newt said, shrugging as he got to the end of his explanation. Gally hummed, ignoring his friend, but he did indeed hear him. No one new ever came to Glade Heights High; for the most part, people left if anything. They were a great school, no doubt, but the city surrounding the school almost never had vacant houses. It was a decent sized city and there were two schools, Glade Heights being the school that had the smaller amount of spaces available to kids. But this new girl had managed to get one of the recently vacated spots just in time. And as if Newt could tell the future, in came Teresa, a girl coming in behind her. Newt jabbed Gally in his ribs and with an annoyed growl he looked up, dropping the pen that he was at one biting down on as he studied. The new girl was... different. She had hair down to the middle of her back, she had two medium sized, tight braids that went down on one side of her head a short fringe for bangs. Her hair was an electric turquoise - hints of deep emerald greens and shining blues glistened, the colors a bit faded from washing. She wore a simple fitting gray tank top with black skinny jeans and a loose fitting dark gray jacket. She had on heavy combat boots, a chained wallet that was short and connected to a belt loop before the wallet itself was hidden in her back pocket. On her shoulder hung an old looking, loose, baggy cloth of a bag. It was white with gray and black designs on it. In her arms she held two books and a notepad, a pen tucked behind her ear. ”Mrs. Samuels,” Teresa beamed, “The is Y/N.” Teresa introduced, seconds before the bell rang. The new girl stuck her hand out, smiling warmly at her new taught. “Y/N. Y/n L/n,” she hummed out. And suddenly, several students gasped quietly. Newt’s jaw dropped just a bit and Gally’s eyes swelled in size, glancing the girl over. ”Pleasure to meet you, Miss L/N,” Mrs. Samuels hummed out, nodding her head. “Take a seat next to Teresa - we have free choice here,” she explained, waving her hand off towards the seats. /Teresa guided the girl to a couple of vacant seats, passing Newt and Gally, Teresa waving happily at them. Y/N paused, sending a sweet smile at Gally, before throwing a hand up and giving a lay half wave/salute to him, smirking lazily along with her actions. Mrs. Samuels calmed down the class and began her lecture. She droned on about the naming and balancing of compounds, and began to explain how to decide an acid from a base; the usual lay down for the class. Y/N tapped her fingers lazily, taking notes in her notepad, Teresa whispering and giggling in her ear. Y/N smiled, taking a liking to her guide the school had assigned. She couldn’t have asked for a better person to share her schedule with. But all Gally could think as he nervously glanced over at the pair of girls, the thoughts that came to his head. Why did she come back?
After chemistry, Teresa showed Y/N around the school between classes. Chemistry, History, English level 3, Pre-Calculus, and French were all the classes they had together. The only time the girls split was between their third and fourth classes together. Teresa left for AVID class while Y/N left for auto shop, both relatively close to one another, just on the other side of the building block. Once lunch rolled around, Teresa happily led her new found friend to her other friends. At a wide circular table surrounded with chairs near a small concrete wall outside, Teresa led Y/N to her small group of friends. “That’s Brenda, Sonya is next to here. There’s Thomas! Oh, and then Newt and Minho. Gally usually is the last to come but you saw him in chemistry this morning,” Teresa said, pointing out each person as the duo neared the table. Y/N laughed gently - she knew she would have to come clean to the girl soon, but in just afew minutes. As the girls got closer, the entire table caught sight of them, and they all stayed locked on Y/N. Teresa thought they were just curious to see the new girl but little did she knew just yet that it was a bit more than that. “Hello!” Teresa smiled, taking a seat on Thomas’s lap, popping one of his grapes into her mouth. “Everyone this is-” she began to introduce, but Y/N waved her hand, laughing. “Ter... uh, I should be honest with you,” the green haired girl smiled, Teresa eyeing her curiously now. “I actually used to live here some years back - before you moved her. I actually, a uh, know all of your friends,” Y/N laughed. “Some better than others, but I uh, I actually went to the Glade Elementary school down the ways, which most everyone here went to,” she smiled, and Teresa looked at her oddly for a second but then shrugged, patting the seat next to her for her friend to join. “Y/N,” Thomas said, eyeing the girl next to him, “you’ve.... changed.” With a laugh, Thomas grinned at her. The others laughed along nodding, Gally jogging up to the small group as the conversation began, slowly sliding in unnoticed as he did so. “Yea, haha, just a bit. A few piercings here, some tattoos there, a box or two of hair dye... it can do a bit of change,” Y/N said, winking at Thomas.  “Wait, so, why did you move back?” Brenda asked, leaning on her elbows, peering at her old childhood friend from down the street with pure curiosity. With a shrug, Y/N replied, “My mom got a better job offer back out here. We left due to the a.. legal case that was damaging my parent’s law firm label. But after movign around a bit, they actually opened a couple more small practices and actualy have a pretty decent name now. They got offered a really good opurtunity here in Amoria and they couldn’t pass it up.” A chorus of ‘that’s great’, ‘glad you’re back’, ‘we missed you’ and the like floated around her. Leaning on her forearms, Y/N stole a glance at Gally, a lazy smirk taking over her lips againf ro the briefest of moments. She knew how uncomfortable the boy felt, and she was the only one to notice it. For the rest of lunch, the group caught up. Everyone saying how they knew the name but the face scared them, getting a loud laugh out of Y/N. They all caught up, talked, ate, and for the most part just discussed life. Nothing too personal. Nothing too deep. Just friends. And Y/N found herself easily sliding comfortably into a place at Glade Heights, making new and old friends, especially with Teresa. When the lunch bell rang to indicate the end of the meal time, Teresa jumped up, grabbing Y/N arm and gally’s arm, stumping the tall boy for a moment. “We all have French next period with Flores, might as well go together. Since those losers all took Spanish,” Teresa explained briefly, sticking her tongue out at the others in the group, who were all going to their own language classes or to other various classes. Y/N laughed and nodded, agreeing with her new friend’s teasing, while Gally forced out a small chuckle, smiling quietly as he nodded his head, letting his elbow be gripped by the thin, pale fingers of his friend, being dragged down various halls. Gally sighed to himself quietly as he found a seat in French class, slumping down in it quietly. Y/N was back.
A/N: Glade Heights High School is the imaginary high school, just to clarify. And, Amoria? I don’t even think that’s a real place I honestly made it up. I wanted to have free, creative range for creating the city but it needed a name is all. Chapter 2 to follow very very soon!!!
