Good morning. I have a post going around on the situation but I felt it would be beneficial to make a fresh one.
I am currently on strike at my job. I work at the main facility that is at the head of this strike. This is a struggle of Black and Brown employees. To clarify, we have demanded from them: Better pay, better working conditions and acknowledgement of sexual harassment and racism within the company. Only one of which they have been willing to work with. The money of course.
I say all this to say, I really need financial and emotional support at this time. Everything helps.

I do my level best to assume incompetence instead of malice if only to keep the paranoia down to a dull roar but his most recent fuckery can only be read as malicious.
The Australian Federal Government has decided that if folks aren’t starving then state governments will be more inclined to use lockdowns to try to control the pandemic, which would be bad for business.
This isn’t Farquad saying “some of you may die” this is Scotty from Marketing saying “some of you will die and I don’t consider that a sacrifice”
Worth noting that countries with vaccination rates in excess of 80% are finding it insufficient to control the delta strain.

Can't believe The Hunger Games' legacy is shaping up to be "the blueprint for the teen dystopian love triangle book." It is so much more than that y'all. Mockingjay is such a thoughtful and pertinent book and I hate that it gets labelled as the worst of the trilogy.
The Hunger Games is a blatently anti-capitalist story about a revolt of the working classes against a corrupt system. This ain't subtle.
It went out there, and told teenagers "Rich people don't want to help you. Even nice rich people profit off your suffering. Your fellow members of the working classes aren't your enemies and conflict with them is detrimental in the long term. Violence is undesirable and you will make the most change by working to change the system itself. Sometimes the edgy dangerous exciting choice isn't the right one, and it's best to choose what will make you genuinely happy. Teenage girls should fantasize about killing the president."
It also has strong themes of grief, trauma, coping strategies, mental health, and the importance of human connection. Even all these years later, the scenes of Katniss lying locked away in her room, believing that she has fulfilled all her usefulness and any possibility of happiness in her life, vowing to starve herself to death, that hits me so hard.
The scenes of recovery afterwords, her forcing herself out of bed every morning, telling herself she needs to eat, she needs to bathe, she needs to talk to others, she needs to take a walk outside. The fact that she acknowledges her relationship with Peeta doesn't fix her trauma, but having a person to share it with helps her. That's very emotionally mature shit.
Anyways I recommend people go back and read The Hunger Games again as adults and look at it more deeply, because there's a lot of good shit there and the fact that it gets filed under the "mediocre teen sci-fi" label infuriates me.
