The Weirdest Games You May Have Missed
Introduction:
In the vast and ever-expanding world of video games, where countless titles are released every year, it's easy to get lost in the sea of "normal" and mainstream titles. But let's face it, sometimes, normality is overrated. There's a peculiar charm in exploring the weird, the offbeat, and the downright bizarre games that often go overlooked. These games might not be everyone's cup of tea, but they are unforgettable experiences that deserve recognition. In this article, we'll delve into the world of the strangest and most noteworthy games, offering a "Fucked up rating" out of 10 for each based on their themes, reception, and general consensus.
Captain Blood (Fucked up rating: 7/10):
Captain Blood takes you on a surreal journey through the cosmos as you attempt to communicate with alien species. The game's bizarre visuals, complex alien languages, and psychedelic landscapes make it a truly unique experience. Your goal is not just to survive but to decipher and interact with a myriad of strange extraterrestrial life forms. While it might not be for everyone, its unconventional approach to storytelling and communication is something to behold.
Weird Dreams (Fucked up rating: 9/10):
True to its name, Weird Dreams is a nightmarish adventure that blurs the line between reality and the surreal. Players navigate a series of disturbing dreamscapes, encountering grotesque creatures and solving perplexing puzzles. Its unsettling atmosphere and unconventional gameplay make it a true gem for fans of the bizarre. The game's eerie soundtrack and nightmarish visuals contribute to its deeply unsettling atmosphere.
I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream (Fucked up rating: 8/10):
Adapted from Harlan Ellison's sci-fi classic, this game explores themes of torture, redemption, and existential dread. It's a grim and unsettling journey through the minds of five tortured souls, each facing their own unique horrors. The game's dark narrative and moral dilemmas leave a lasting impact, and the voice acting adds an extra layer of unsettling realism to the experience.
Rule of Rose (Fucked up rating: 9/10):
Rule of Rose is a psychological horror game that delves deep into the disturbing relationships among a group of orphaned children in a mysterious, twisted orphanage. The game explores themes of power, cruelty, and psychological trauma in a way that is both disturbing and thought-provoking. The haunting orchestral score and eerie art design intensify the feeling of unease.
The Suffering (Fucked up rating: 7/10):
This action-horror game is a descent into the nightmarish horrors of a prison overrun by monstrous abominations. The game is known for its graphic violence and psychological elements, making it a haunting and disturbing experience. The game's gruesome creature design and oppressive atmosphere contribute to its unsettling nature.
E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy (Fucked up rating: 6/10):
E.Y.E is a surreal and ambitious cyberpunk game that blends elements of first-person shooters, role-playing, and exploration. Its complex narrative and bizarre world-building make it a challenging but intriguing experience for those who appreciate unconventional storytelling. The game's intricate lore and cyberpunk aesthetics add depth to its eccentricity.
Deadnaut (Fucked up rating: 8/10):
Deadnaut is a roguelike sci-fi horror game that places you in the shoes of a team of spacefaring investigators. As you explore derelict spaceships and face off against cosmic horrors, the game's oppressive atmosphere and grim narrative create a genuinely unsettling experience. The procedural generation of ship layouts and unpredictable encounters enhance its replayability and sense of cosmic dread.
Vangers (Fucked up rating: 9/10):
Vangers is a surreal and mind-bending open-world vehicular combat game set on a bizarre alien planet. Players navigate a surreal landscape in customizable vehicles, encountering strange creatures and solving cryptic puzzles. The game's absurdity is matched only by its complexity, offering a unique blend of exploration, combat, and puzzle-solving that's as bewildering as it is captivating. Its nonsensical dialogue and intricate world-building contribute to its strangeness.
Conclusion:
The world of gaming is a vast and diverse one, and these weird and wonderful titles are just the tip of the iceberg. From surreal dreamscapes to psychological horrors, cosmic mysteries, and the alien landscapes of Vangers, there are countless overlooked gems waiting to be discovered. So, did I miss anything? Undoubtedly. The world of gaming is a treasure trove of oddities and eccentricities, and it's up to each player to embark on their own journey of discovery to find the next weird and wonderful game that will leave a lasting impression.

Asking Someone to be Your Valentine❤️
(Scream 1996) Everyone is 18+ in this
Tumblr media
Tatum 🧸
- One of thee most important days to her. 1. Because she is definitely going to compare what other girls got for Valentines Day and make sure she can brag that she got something even better. 2. Because she likes heart shaped things + red and pink. 3. Because she genuinely loves an excuse to be romantic with gifts (And receiving them too)
- Is dropping hints like crazy at you and will definitely start to get an attitude if she thinks you're forgetting
- Classic gifts over anything BUT would also be okay with a more unique gift as well. A cute teddy bear, chocolate, a dozen roses, a piece of jewelry are all potential things she's lowkey expecting
- Is excitedly grinning and giving you a sassy "Took long enough" once you finally ask her to be her valentine this year. The more extravagant and romantic; the better. Like, ask her in the halls with her locker decorated and make sure everyone sees the amount of love you have for her type of energy. (She gives me Leo or Libra Venus )
- If you didn't get her a gift she will be a little bummed out. I'm sorry but bbygirl has gifts as her love language.
- If you did something really cute and a little cheesy it will make up for the lack of gifts but she'll act like it's gross even though she's still smiling and kissing you afterwards
- Depending on your relationship she most likely got you something too. It's something super intimate and probably expensive that you cannot top like an endearing and pricey necklace with both your initials. She doesn't want you to compete she's just naturally going to buy her Valentine the one thing she knows they'll swoon over.
- She fully expects, no matter what you gave her, to be taken out on a date...It's VALENTINES DAY, hello??? Wine. And. Dine. Her.
Sidney 💌
- Doesn't particularly like or hate the holiday but she thinks it's overrated and cheesy
- Is the type to spend it with friends and family just as much as her partner but is secretly waiting for her crush or partner to make the first move
- Doesn't expect much or anything at all to be honest
- She's gers more reserved and moody if it's Valentines Day or close to it and you still haven't asked her (She isn't dropping hints like Tatum either you ask or you don't but she's definitely gonna bottle it up and be upset with you if you don't)
- Is surprised when you do ask her even if you're in a relationship already. Gets the sweetest most relieved smile on her face when you do finally ask her to be your Valentine.
- If you get her the generic gift she'll just smile and thank you for it but a unique gift is what she's truly reacting to.
- She's going to really appreciate a unique gift like a music box or something sentimental with your picture on it that she can always know came from the heart
- Even if you just gave her a heartfelt poem or letter describing what she means to you; she's touched by it
- She's fine with ordering take out and just spending the day together and watching romcoms on the couch
Randy 🍫
- Acts like it's the most stupid, gross day of the year. Complains about everyone buying up every romance movie in the store and how sick he is of the decor of heart streamers everywhere and how many guys are trying to ask him the perfect movie to get her in the mood and how the horror section is untouched *goes on an hour long rant of Bela Lugosi saying it best about horror and romancing women* and swears it's a nothing but a conspiracy for capitalist companies to profit
- Not even 5 minutes after complaining is asking whoever he's talking to "So anyways, what do you think I should get YN?"
-Nervous af to ask you and got you the most basic cheesy traditional valentine's day gift simply because he's afraid he'll scare you off getting something too niche unless you're dating
- Isn't expecting anything from you because he's honestly scared you won't say yes to begin with (Unless you're already in a relationship but he still doesn't expect anything. He's just grateful you're with him.)
- If you're not dating; He's stunned if you got him a gift and asked him because...WHAT- You are asking him?...For real? Not as a joke? Seriously, you're asking him?-
- If you're dating he's still smiling and flabbergasted you got him something. Would appreciate any gift and probably never got a romantic gift in his life from anyone. So it doesn't matter if it's candy or a stuffed animal (If you don't get that boy a horror themed stuffie istg or a t shirt with horror movies on it or something) Something as simple as a card with a single rose will have him smitten with you even more than he already is
- Probably won't watch a horror movie on Valentines Day with you even if he secretly wants to. He'll take you to a small diner or small casual restaurant and then go see the latest movie you want to see at the local theater
- HOWEVER if you insist on seeing My Bloody Valentine with him at home and order pizza he'll be in love with you
Billy 🌹
- Hates the holiday. Tries to ignore it as much as he can before he realizes it's impossible with his feelings towards you.
- If he has a crush on you he's actually fucking awful at flirting. He's comparing you to a horror movie character as a compliment "I was watching the exorcist and it got me thinking of you" headass. So I can guarantee you you won't know if he likes you or not while Stu is dogging him for being awful at sending hints. He's relied on his pretty privilege his whole life; he has no idea what he's doing otherwise
- If you're already dating its easier to know he cares but also not because he naturally assumes you already know you're his so why make a big deal about Valentines Day? He'd be the type to panick because at the last minute Stu is like "What the fuck is wrong with you, man??? Go get them a stuffed animal or something before it's too late!" so he gets you the most cheesy traditional gift like a stuffie dog that says 'I ruff you'....It's okay, you can laugh together. He knows it sucks.
- He does seem the type though that if you REALLY spelled it out for him that you wanted to celebrate Valentines Day he'd make the most sentimental gift. Like made you something with your pictures together or a locket with a picture of you both or something very intimate like that.
- Doesn't expect a gift but is stunned when you get him one. Definitely acts nonchalant but secretly keeps it forever as a keepsake to remind him of you.
- If it's a crush and you're not dating he's asking you to talk in private and then asking you. He'd probably have his hands in his pocket the entire time asking in that monotoned voice he gets because he's nervous and trying to play it off like he's nonchalant about it. He might even have a single rose or note he's going to just drop in your lap and walk away while everyone around you is oohing and awing at that. It's not ACTUALLY because he's cool like everyone thinks it's because he's awkward af and would rather play it aloof than to embarrass himself trying to flirt and ask you around ppl
- If he asks you to be his Valentine in a relationship or as a crush; it's for you to hear and only you. He's not showy or into broadcasting his feelings for you in public simply because he feels that's something only people that have to prove something to everyone will do and he has nothing to prove. And he's embarrassed by it but won't admit it
- As for celebrating the actual day he probably wanted to watch horror like Randy but decided he could just watch it at home later. Instead he would definitely take you someplace private to star gaze or he actually took you to some private area he made to hang out and it's probably decorated with candlelight and everything too. He IS romantic he just isn't very charming about it if that makes sense
- He seems like the type to secretly expect you to put out with the effort he gave and would try it but if you didn't want to he wouldn't push. He'd act like it's cool even if he is lowkey moody about it afterwards. He'll get over it but he's still got toxic tendencies.
- If you know he's GF he definitely asked if he could kill someone you don't like as a gift. If you don't know, he is calling you with the GF voice changer and flirting with you hardcore over the phone. It's like an alter ego that boosts his confidence for sure. If you're already dating its totally him testing you to see if you tell him you have a boyfriend. But regardless he's still flirting and you might even realize it's him afterwards not relating that voice changer to GF kills YET.
Stu 🫀
- He likes the holiday because he can get laid and if he has a crush on someone he is going to like it even more!
- He's 'the man' in any relationship so he truly does not expect you to do anything for the holiday except reward him
- He's a giant kid underneath it all so he will be the type to act like he doesn't know when Valentines Day is or to purposely act like he'll ask someone else to get a rise out of you bc being like 'surprise! What? You thought I was forreal?" is just too exciting to pass up for him even if it's toxic af
- If you get him a gift he's flattered. However, you also don't realize what you just did. He is just going to go above and beyond to 'thank you' by getting you the most elaborate gift.
- Gets you the BIGGEST stuffed animal you've ever seen or the MOST roses in a bouquet you've laid eyes on or whatever else is a traditional gift but big and huge and loud just to outshine anything else anyone could get you in the past or future.
- Don't expect too unique or sentimental of a gift it's not that he doesn't care as much as he thinks you wouldn't want something like that so he doesn't even consider it. He thinks everybody wants as shallow and crude of gifts as he does. Bigger, shinier, more brag worthy; the better.
- If you know he's GF....Oh boy, he definitely considered a bloody heart of someone you hate in a candy box...Please give hints you would NOT like that or it might happen
- If you don't know he's GF his is showing up at your house, someones blood to write a Valentines message for you on something, scaring the shit out of you with the outfit and knife even if he's not hurting you and then showing up suspiciously quick to comfort you and tell you he's there to protect you. I wouldn't put it past him to taste the blood and lie and say 'See? It's corn syrup. Some guy with a crush is fucking with you' bc you would never expect him of lying or being so sadistic...You poor naive dumby.
- Is all over you all day long he's handsy anyways but Valentines Day has him even more in the mood for touching you
- In a relationship he expects lingerie and even bought you some. Sadly expect him to throw a baby fit if you don't model it for him that very night and demonstrate how easily it comes off too.
- Takes you out, dines you at a decently nice restaurant and then took a walk with you before taking you home. The boy is suave in a boy next door kind of way
Bonus:
Dewey
- He thinks the holiday is special and puts a lot of emphasis on it. The man is so sweet. He can be a bit confused but in an endearing way <3 So if he has a crush on you or in a relationship; he definitely doesn't forget Valentines Day but he does overcomplicate it.
- With a crush on you, he's surprisingly forward and honest with flirting with you. It's nothing that's crude but it is smooth enough to make you feel bashful at how honestly he admires you. "Gosh, you're beautiful/handsome." Would come out of his mouth in the most awestruck way that makes you whole heartedly beileve anything he says
- In a relationship he does shower you in compliments but sometimes he gets so stuck in his own head or his job that it consumes him. You might even be sad that he'll forget Valentines Day bc it seems like he's ignoring you
- When in actuality, he's so in his head thinking bc he's going above and beyond to make the upcoming day perfect
- As a crush he just asks you with a shy smile and probably has a bouquet he got you of a bunch of different flowers, not just roses bc he 'wants to know your favorite'
- In a relationship, especially your first Valentines, he goes all out...The man is stressing himself out entirely too much. Be prepared for a burnt dinner he made, rose petals to the bedroom with candles but hot wax got all over the floor that he now has to clean up, the wine bottle fell on the floor and shattered everywhere, and this poor thing is clutching his head wanting to almost cry at how much he 'screwed up' a special day he tried so hard to make memorable. if you don't love him and tell him it's okay istg I'll find you
- You both spend it cleaning everything up and going out to eat somewhere or getting take out
Gale
- Doesn't necessarily love the holiday. In fact, she finds it annoying. However, she also uses it as an excuse to spoil you so she tolerates it.
- This woman does not play around with anything. If she has a crush on you she is making it known. If you're in a relationship, she already has the day planned out but expects effort from you too. She ain't no simp she takes as much as she gives.
- As a crush, she bought a very luxurious suit or dress for you and surprises you with it. When you ask why; she tells you she's taking you to the ritzious place outside of town.
- If you're already in a relationship I wouldn't put it past her to book a trip for the entire Valentines Weekend like you're on a honeymoon or something
- The only way she wouldn't spoil you with her wealth as a famous journalist is if you refused it (Like Dewey did I'm sure) and then she actually has no idea what to do... She's AWFUL with emotions. Buying ppl things is the easiest way for her to say 'I love you' so what the hell is she supposed to do if you don't accept lavish gifts????
- She'd be determined to woo you though. It's Gale Weathers; no challenge is too much. Even if it drives her crazy in the meantime.
- She buys lingerie for herself regularly so it's nothing for her to be laying in bed with a new set on her body. Expect a new piece and her body sprawled out on your bed later ~
- She stressed herself out making a private venue with lights, music, wine glasses on a patio. It works but just know she cursed out every light trying to string them up.
- If you tell her then she would try to be more intouch with her softer side for you even if it's not easy.

Books to Read if You want to Look/Feel like a Literary Snob
AKA dark academia and literary novels that’ll make you look smart but are also enjoyable (in my option).
Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu, Edited by Carmen Maria Machado
This is the OG vampire novel and also the OG toxic queer romance novel. Published in 1872, this book predates Bram Stoker’s Dracula by 25 years. The story follows Carmilla and her increasingly possessive relationship with the protanganist, Laura, following a carraige incedent. So, yes, this is a classic, and I know these arn’t always the easiest to read. But is it less than 150 pages, it is queer, and Carmen Maria Machado’s commentary is hilarious and also helps with the reading process.
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
I feel like everyone knows this book, and it is for sure popular—and for that reason alone, I debated not adding it to this list—but I’m not sure if I would consider it overrated. It is one of the prettiest books I have ever read and it is objectivly good. It is a retelling of the Trojan War told from Patroclus’ point-of-veiw and focuses on his relationship with Achilles. And for sure, if you get one of the pretty editions, you will look like a snob.
The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake
This is the most pretenious novel I have ever read. It has its issues, don’t get me wrong, and its preteniouness is one of them. Regardless, it is quite the compelling novel with an interesting cast of characters and a solid twist at the end. TAS is about a group of six young adults who are in the process of becoming part of a secret society that protects the suposidly burned contents of the library of Alexandria. Their intiation process consists of eleminating one of the chosen six.
Plain Bad Heroines by Emily M. Danforth
This 600+ page book is not nearly as prentious as it appears, but I imagine if you’re just wanting to look like you’re into literary horror, this is the book for you. It follows two different timelines and is a bit trippy to think about. It is a book about a book that is in the process of being made into a movie based on real-life events. It is mildly creepy, very well written, and gloriously feminist and queer.
Slewfoot: A Tale of Bewitchery by Brom
I havn’t read many feminist books written by men, but this one does a solid job, and I’m kind of mad about it. This wonderfully atmostspheric tale takes place in 1666 Conneticuit. It is full of magic, witchcraft, demons, and staight white bible-thumpers getting what they deserve. Also, yes, we are all into the goat man. It’s okay.
These Violent delights by Micah Nemerever
Listen, it's bleak, but in a way that's fascinating and intriguing, and you don't want to put it down. It's about two boys who are the smartest people in the room—one alienated, grieving, and awkward, the other popular, personable, and easy-going. Their friendship turns towards an intense relationship where their toxic sensibilities take a turn for the violent. The question: can they get away with it?
These are not peak snob, but they are the ones I have read/listened to that I would recommend if you're in the mood for something a bit pretentious.

all movie asks answers from the ask meme post bc it was fun
Your favorite movie released this year DIDNT WATCH ANY 2023 MOVIES YET.. CRIES
A movie you think is underrated - obliged to say An Elephant Sitting Still by hu bo bc i can never find it in dvd stores and i unfortunately honestly dont know if i will find a screening of it in a cinema available to me ever again but i dream of it
Tumblr media
A movie you think is overrated - going to put two, one new and one classic. first one is parasite. im bitter abt this movie bc it was advertised like crazy and the reviews were so hyping and then i went and it was average. its not a bad movie but not only doesnt deserve the hype the hype ruined it for me bc if i went with the proper expectations i wouldnt have gotten so disappointed. a classic is alphaville of godard... obviously its a good movie and im sure it was groundbreaking at the time but by now the story doesnt feel as sophisticated bc this genre of story is at this point.. i wouldnt say overdone bc its still a great genre but its not fresh or suprising by now without making it more complex. this movie felt like a blueprint to the 1984 book soviet dystopia genre so it didnt keep up with the times. many classic movies are still exciting and fresh just like when they came out including other movies of godard but this isn't one of them. but i can also see how it was probably one of godard's top commercial movies, bc it was easier to digest and more basic than his other work
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A movie you like but wouldn't recommend - stalker of tarkovsky and tarkovsky movies in general bc i think it would probs be boring to most ppl (its slow and not much plot) + tarkovsky movies r slow and the kind of movies u have to watch in the movie theater
Tumblr media
A movie musical you like - annette of leox carax. and its not only a good movie the music is so good too
Tumblr media
A horror movie you like - audition by takashi miike . love japanese violence
Tumblr media
A sci-fi movie you like - high life by claire denis. AND it has robert pattinson in it!!!!!!!111 and hes amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
A fantasy movie you like
A movie in your native language you like - Life According to Agfa by Assi Dayan. one of the only good israeli movies that exist bc i didnt see so far any good, worthwhile or complex israeli movie besides this one (not including documentaries).
Tumblr media
A foreign-language movie you like - (i put a bunch already so ill do one in a language i didnt put yet) tori and lokita by the dardenne brothers. takes place in belgium in french about a young refugee woman and a refugee child from africa who pose as brother and sister. this is going to destroy you but its such a good movie i cant recommend it enough but i still cant recover
Tumblr media
A movie you wish you could un-watch - the disney secretariat movie. it was so bad oh my god it was so fucking bad im in pain. i want disney to give me back the braincells i lost. this actor horse deserves so much better
Tumblr media
A performance you think is underrated - Vicenç Altaió (yeah had to google this one) in story of my death by albert serra. his acting was insane. probably one of the best acting perfomances ive ever seen, specifically the toilet scene stuck with me. so it's a period movie about casanova. there a scene in the movie that all of it is just him taking a shit. and of course it sounds goofy but it was actually a really human and sensitive depiction and his acting was so natural i completely forgot i was watching a movie. he really made this scene what it is. and tbh i think even from those other photos u can see what i mean on him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A performance you think is overrated
A movie made better by the ending - only thing that comes up in my mind is barton fink of joel coen.. i can barely remember this movie bc i watched it years ago but (spoilers) i can just remember there was a twist in the middle that flipped the whole movie on its head and it was super enjoyable. besides this i cant think of anything
A movie ruined by the ending - the holy mountain of jodorowsky... at the time i watched it i was so disappointed by the ending it was so anticlimactic. i think he thought he did something but it just didnt work. (might be spoilers) same vibes when a story pulls "and then he found out it was all a dream". like.. in this case it just didnt feel fitting it was disappointing. but i watched it years ago so i wonder if i would feel the same now
Tumblr media
A trilogy/franchise you like cant think of anything
A movie you never get tired of talking about - drive my car by ryusuke hamaguchi. its fun to talk abt this movie bc even tho there are a lot of themes and details that make it what it is, its not too complex to not be able to grasp and pinpoint them. so its complex enough to be a good movie but not too complex to not be able to talk abt it, both abt the good and bad things (bc there r also choices the director made that i dont like). and there's also so much to talk abt that stems from this movie not only in the movie itself but also what it shows abt japanese cinema, contemporary japanese cinema/this generation of japanese directors versus the previous generations. also i love this director in general i recc all his movies
Tumblr media
A movie you never wanna hear about again - if i hear one more thing abt any marvel movie im going to kill myself
A movie you look forward to watching (could be an upcoming release or not) - aki karutismaki's fallen leaves that came out this year
Tumblr media
A movie you think looks beautiful - red desert of antonioni. i adore the aesthetic of this movie. tbh its probably my favorite movie visuals wise. i just cant stop adding photos from google bc i love everything slkfdsflsfgds
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A director you think is underrated - tbh hard to think of anyone.. i think any director i like got some kind of recognition, and if i think ok which one doesnt get mainstream recognition it would be basically most of them. so im trying to think.. who do i rlly think doesnt get recognition. maybe the crown should go to the photographer petra collins who actually directed the first season of euphoria before sam levinson kicked her out and claimed he did it and stole all her work

Tom Cruise Challenge
Tumblr media
1: First movie of his you remember seeing.
Interview With The Vampire 🧛🏻 it was around midnight or just before, in 1998 and I was seven years old. When my brother and I were younger, my Mum set up little pillow and blanket forts in the living room while she slept on the sofa. There was one night when I hadn’t gotten to sleep yet but I pretended I was so as to not alert her to the fact I ended up watching that movie with her while I lay there hiding my open eyes by facing the tv instead of where she sat on the sofa. My mum is a huge fan of Brad Pitt, so she was watching it for that reason. I recall being both equally terrified and infatuated with Lestat. I only informed her I had snuck a viewing of that movie about three years ago and she was highly entertained.
2: The last movie of his you watched.
Had a much needed rewatch of Rain Man about two hours ago because I was browsing our movie library and spotted it on the first page so just decided that would do just fine. I’ve not watched it for at least four years, but it’s a classic and a gorgeous story, if you’re in the right mood for it. I generally get pretty emotional and end up deep diving into my feels.
3: Which movie of his have you watched the most?
Probably a handful if not all of them, because I rewatch all of my favourites every now and then, so since my Tom adoration began, there’s been a shitload of rewatches. I’d estimate that the ones I lean more toward for repeated viewings are Mission Impossible II, Interview With The Vampire, War Of The Worlds, Top Gun, Cocktail, Jerry Maguire, Jack Reacher and Vanilla Sky. They tend to fall into the most loved and appreciated of his movies, but I do cycle through a whole bunch of them.
4: Favorite Movie
Interview With The Vampire, hands down. As far as horror is concerned, it’s that one. Second place is Mission Impossible II and that never changes to be fair.
5: Least Favorite Movie
There are a handful I don’t really care for, including Edge Of Tomorrow, Tropic Thunder, Collateral. I just don’t find myself enjoying them very much when I watch them.
6: Favorite Character
Lestat, of course. I’m so attached to this character because of that first viewing at the impressionable age of seven. It began my lifelong appreciation of Cruise and has held strong over all the years. The light has never dimmed with that one.
7: Least Favorite Character
Les Grossman, naturally. I don’t know.. just don’t enjoy that movie or that character at all. Another one would probably be Nick Morton, mainly cause I couldn’t get into those movies at all, though I did try a number of times.
8: Underrated Movie
Far And Away 👌 also Legend, The Colour Of Money, Days Of Thunder and American Made! I wanna see way more love for all of those movies because I absolutely love them to bits.
9: Most Overrated Movie
Interview is possibly overrated? and so is Top Gun? as far as that term goes anyway, but I do not list them with distaste lol cause I really love those movies. I’m just assuming what other people would consider the most overrated.
10: Favorite Haircut
I have always loved his shoulder length ( or just above ) hair so that will always be my favourite of his styles. Thinking along the lines of his Mission Impossible II haircut and also how it is in Rain Man; both very lovely hairstyles.
11: Least Favorite Haircut
Anything that’s like super short really, like Mission Impossible, the very first one, or Jack Reacher. I think he looks better with his hair at least a little longer than that.
12: Which Movie would you like to see a sequel to?
Most of his movies that don’t have sequels, which is a lot. I want sequels to all of them because I love his characters so much. I would have loved more Chronicles movies so we could get more of his Lestat. I also would have loved a sequel to Far And Away so we could see their lives together <3 Vanilla Sky is one that also desperately needs a sequel. I also really want a Rain Man sequel and maybe also Cocktail.
13: Favorite line from one of his movies
“ You complete me. ” Rain Man
“ Don’t call me son. I’m a lawyer and an officer in the United States Navy, and you’re under arrest, you son of a bitch. ” A Few Good Men
“ Everything ends badly, otherwise it wouldn’t end. ” Cocktail
“ Don’t be afraid. I’m going to give you the choice I never had. ” Interview With The Vampire
14: Favorite scene from one of his movies
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
15: Favorite Mission Impossible movie
The second one! I know 99% of people hate that one the most, but it is and always has been my ansolute favourite out of the lot of them. Even as further movies for that franchise have been made, it has remained the best to me.
16: Favorite stunt
Most of his stunts for the Mission franchise! especially the one in which he is flinging himself around a rock face in number II and also his climb of the Burj Khalifa in Ghost Protocol.
17: Favorite run
All of them 🤣 they are all uniquely special. I like the run he did in Vanilla Sky a lot, though. That’s probably the best of them.
18: Which Character did you relate to the most?
Erm, probably either Jack from Legend or Joseph from Far & Away, cause I don’t think I relate to his others all that much.
19: Which Character (from books, comics etc. or a possible remake) would you love to see Tom play?
I just want to see him keep playing Lestat 😭 but I know that is not the question, lol. I’d like to see him as Heathcliff cause after Lestat, Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights is my second favourite character in literature, so definitely him.
20: If you could only watch one film of his for the rest of time, which would it be and why?
That would be a tie between my top two, so either Interview or the second Mission movie. Both for very different reasons. I’m probably gonna have to choose just one and pick Interview 😅 for the purpose of the question, but still.
21: A director you would like to see him work with.
James Cameron or Tim Burton! two of my favourites, but also would like to see him work with Spielberg again.
22: A scene where "he does that thing with his face that makes you die inside" the most
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
23: A sleeper hit. A movie that on the first watch you only thought of as okay, but over time it's become a favorite.
Most likely, for me, that would be Days Of Thunder. I’d never been a car girly until the first Fast movie came out, so getting into Days Of Thunder back in the day was a hard one. The one thing that helped massively, beside Tom of course, was the fact that Zimmer did the score. I absolutely loveee Zimmer. I do now very much enjoy that movie and can appreciate things a lot more.
24: Out of the three films in which he was nominated for an Oscar (Born on the 4th of July, Jerry Maguire, and Magnolia), which one SHOULD have won him the trophy and why.
See now, each of those movies is fantastic in its own way, so that’s quite hard because the performances he gave in each cannot be compared to one another. My favourite out of those movies is Jerry Maguire, but in terms of Oscars, I would say he should have gotten it for Frank TJ Mackey. While that movie is not focused entirely on that character and explores the lives of many others, Mackey had the biggest impact.
25: What's the performance that you think should have been nominated for an Oscar and why?
I wanna say Lestat so badly here. I think his take was spot on and the man did so much research and spent so much time in the books that he just embodied that character as a whole. He is the very reason I love that vampire so much and it is ‘cause of him that I even have a fascination with vampires in the first place. I have to give him credit where credit is due. Lestat is a character I think he portrayed beautifully and he did deserve a nomination for that role. Also, probably Daniel Kaffee? A Few Good Men is another fantastic performance for him.
26: Favorite 80s era Movie? Like besides Top Gun because that's obvious.
Cocktail! that gets the number one spot for this because omg younger me was obsessed with this movie and Brian. I still am but I’ve calmed down over the years, lol. That character is just perfection, in every sense of the word. I’m also still going back and forth on whether or not I’m gonna splurge and get myself a Cocktails and Dreams sign, though I don’t have a bar ✌️
27: Favorite co-star?
I really love him alongside Elisabeth Shue. I think they worked really well together. He was fantastic starring alongside Dustin Hoffman as well! and I also really like him working with Simon Pegg. They both work really well together, too.
28: Favorite fight scene? Like in everything counting M:l!
Mission Impossible II, that fight scene with the bikes will hold a special place in my heart forever. I really like his fight scenes in both Reacher movies as well, but especially the first movie and the scene where he ends up taking a bat to the back of his head and falls into the bathtub. So much is happening in that scene, it’s all over the place and so funny.
29: Actor you'd like to see him work with. (We know he's already been with everyone else ;))
My other favourites! lol. Tom is my all time favourite actor, so I would like to see him work with Johnny Depp, Gary Oldman, Leonardo Dicaprio. For the ladies, my three queens! Goldie Hawn, Emmy Rossum and Bryce Dallas Howard 🤗
30: Favorite TOM era in General?
Early 90’s to early 00’s seems to be my favourite so I’m gonna go with that cause it’s a pretty good range. I do love him in the 80’s and the 2010’s and onward, but anything between 1990 and 2006 at least, holds my heart the most.

What your least favourite Undertale Au character says about you! (Text post cause I’m still on holiday, don’t take this the wrong way it’s just for shits and giggles)
Fresh: You‘re either a veteran ut fan that witnessed the horrors of the early fandom days, or you think being a parasite is so horrific morally that you just can’t like the guy. Either that or you hate fun
Fell: You just think he’s a two dimensional overrated edgy guy, OR you just don’t like how he’s kinda a jerk.
Classic: You got into the fandom via the au community and just see classic as the vanilla default. Or you’re weird.
Swap: you’re cursed by the images of blueberry OR you just don’t really care too much about a Papyrus sans.
Lust: everyone hates lust except for like 7 people in the fandom so this is kinda self explanatory.
Dust: you think his entire concept is stupid, OR you just don’t like how people simp for sans wearing his hood up.
nightmare: you just don’t vibe with the guy, OR you just think hes overrated.
error: you are wrong, nobody hates this guy.
ink: you liked him until you watched underverse, then you started to hate him for screwing things up.
killer: you think he’s obnoxious, OR you’re upset he gets more bitches than you.
dream: you’re angry at him for not stopping passive from becoming nightmare.
horror: he scares you.
epic: no one hates this guy, you’re objectively wrong.
cross: you’re an error simp that hated him as soon as he won the sexy Au contest, OR you don’t like how he’s such a main character archetype in underverse.
geno: you think it’s stupid he managed to end up in an endless cycle of dying, or you just think he looks weird.
reaper: you just don’t really vibe with the concept.
science sans: he doesn’t fit your headcanon.
Gaster blaster sans: you think he’s a furry.
And if your least favourite sans isn’t on the list, I couldn’t remember them and they’re probably not really relevant so you probably just hate them based on your own pet peeves.

So, by now, I hope you all have seen my little mascot, my little “me as an Opossum” Gren. As much as I looove that character, they don’t really encompass all facets of me. So I decided, let’s make another to fill in the gaps. Naturally, as some of you may have expected, I went with a werewolf, and named them “Gren-del” yes, like the monster from Beowulf. I have my dear friend Cass to thank for that idea.
Tumblr media
So, the design process begins. I knew I didn't want to go with a classic werewolf. Wolves are… gosh I may get flack for this but I think they are overrated. As much as I am a cat person, that also didn’t quite feel right either, so I started digging into obscure canids. I ended up finding the dhole, also known as the asiatic wild dog. They are very social and very intelligent, brave as hell (these guys routinely take on tigers and leopards). The animal's fearsome reputation in India is reflected by the number of pejorative names it possesses in Hindi, which variously translate as "red devil", "devil dog", "jungle devil", or "hound of Kali".
Tumblr media
That last part spoke to me. Most canids have relatively positive associations, wolves for their family lives, dogs for their loyalty, foxes for their cunning. Dholes, however, don't possess those connotations, and that really struck me. They have such a reputation, when in reality, they are intelligent, cooperative, and lax in social structure when compared to wolves. They’re misunderstood. I’ve always felt that way, ever since I was a kid. I’ve always loved outcasts and misfits. So why not be one through art? Heck, I'm already an opossum!
Tumblr media
So I started doodling. I wanted to familiarize myself with the dhole’s shapes, so I did a page of small studies to get used to their shapes. They have these lovely high cheekbones, convex profiles, and gigantic round ears. Typically they are a rich rust color, with northern subspecies exhibiting thick coats accented with white on their throats and jawlines. I decided to go with different colors, those of an isabella coloured dog with silvery eyes and a white star marking on the forehead. It’s just ethereal enough to let the weredhole look like a ghost in the night without going standard “white”.
Tumblr media
They’re also a bit on the slender side, and lack an undercoat (which means they’re literally always cold. Someone get them a sweater). They also have a raggedy ruff of fur around their neck, face, and shoulders which is often tangled and a bit messy.
Tumblr media
But why a were-creature in the first place? Well, I've always felt torn between two worlds, the world of external expectations and the world of internal happiness. Along with that, I am a naturally mercurial person due to some trauma in my background and I have a tendency to be spicy or snappy, as much as I wish I didn’t have that tendency, it’s something i'm working on, but it will likely persist for my whole life in some way, shape, or form. It’s during these times of irritability and unkindness that I often feel like a monster. Afterward, the shame kicks in and I feel so… so horribly ashamed and embarrassed by my own behavior. That really feels like something monstrous to me. I hope that makes sense. I feel like a monster so so so often. Honestly, it’s a really hard thing to work through. I’ve hurt people. I have hurt some of the people I love most in this world, and I find it very difficult to forgive myself for that.
Gren-del is my ghost. They will follow me for the rest of my life, they terrify me, but I seek to understand them. Our lives are full of ghosts, whether that’s regrets we have or memories or grief or shame or guilt.
Tumblr media
"Horror is a shrine to imperfection. It tells you its okay to be a monster. We are all monsters at the end of the day. Can we live with that?"- Guillermo Del Toro

Do you have any video games you would consider "overrated" or "underrated"?
i gotta say as a MAJOR survival horror fan, i can't for the life of me understand the love for Rule of Rose.
Tumblr media
Almost anytime I hear people talking about it, everyone's calling it some underground hidden gem of a game, but it's really not that obscure? like at all?
i heard from sooo many the game was a classic, and really went into the game expecting to like it. like i said, i love survival horror games, and aesthetically the game looks stellar, but after a half-hour or so, i wondered when the game would start getting good. and by 2 hours, i realized this wasn't exactly the game i thought it would be.
i think the reason people are so quick to call it a "hidden gem" is bc of the infamous story of this game getting banned in parts of the world (i believe it was some parts of europe/australia? but i could be way off on that) for allegedly "promoting child abuse," which even as someone who doesn't like this game, that claim is entirely bogus. RoR got a bad reputation, and it never quite garnered the popularity to shed this preconceived notion. which- yeah, that's unfortunate, but cmon now, does that really warrant calling this thing a "hidden classic" ??
personally i always hated the horror trope of "evil/creepy kids" and while I like the fact the kids in the game are just straight up terrible people, rather than them secretly being possessed by demons of being ghosts or something, i feel like there were too many antagonists bc aside from Diana, the other bullies felt very one dimensional. kids can be cruel for no reason like adults can, but the bullies/their bullying was so over the top, and the animal cruelty felt so gratuitous i couldn't take anything that happened to Jennifer seriously.
the combat/controls are comically awful, and i can't count how many times i just ran by enemies bc trying to fight off any of the monsters was such a chore.
there were a few things i liked though! i thought the character designs were very pretty/fit well with the era of the 20s/30s (especially loved Jennifer, Diana, Meg and Eleanore's outfits!) the music wasn't bad. and i like how all the antagonists had respective animal motifs, it was a nice subtle way to distinguish the bullies. i also don't know if this was intentional, but Diana looks like she was modeled after Kirsten Dunst (who i LOVE) and like, idk that felt very meta in a good way!

28, 36, 44 if you haven't done them already?
28. How many books have you read so far this year?
I've read 60 books so far in 2024, though that number is made up mostly of manga volumes.
Here's exactly what I've read:
1-35: volumes 7-42 of Berserk by Kentaro Miura
36: volume 1 of Ouran High School Host Club by Bisco Hatori
37-41: volumes 1-5 of Devilman by Go Nagai
42: It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover
43: volume 12 of Chainsaw Man by Tatsuki Fujimoto
44: volume 4 of Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama
45: Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury
46-47: volumes 1-2 of Fruits Basket by Natsuki Takaya
48: volume 1 of One Punch Man by ONE
49: The Shadow Over Innsmouth by H.P. Lovecraft
50: The Dunwich Horror by H.P. Lovecraft
51: The Horror at Red Hook by H.P. Lovecraft
52: The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor LaValle
53: Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
54: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
55: The Monkey's Paw by W.W. Jacobs
56: American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis
57: volume 1 of Vampeerz by Akili
58: volume 1 of Heartstopper by Alice Oseman
59: The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin
60: And Then She Fell by Alicia Elliott
36. Name a book you consider to be terribly overrated:
I've already ranted here before in the past about how much I really do not like Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and think that it's a bit silly and annoying and weird that it's so often considered one of the best books ever written: (X)
BUT OTHER THAN THAT I think that the Harry Potter series is, and always has been, a little overrated. It was a lot of fun to read and definitely deserves to be considered a classic of children's lit, but it just simply wasn't THAT good, omg... I thought this back in the heyday of it as well, the way people worshiped it and acted like it was literally the only books worth ever thinking about and reading really made me cringe after a while. I was basically exactly the right age for it all when it was first coming out too, and I enjoyed the books all once whenever they first came out and the movies once whenever they first came out, and then that was basically it! Never felt the need to get involved in the fandom or buy merch or re-watch the movies or anything. I just didn't feel like it was really deep enough to be acting as obsessive about it as so many people did, really? And I already felt like I had outgrown the books a bit by the time the series was coming to an end. Anyways, there's all the more reason not to go that apeshit over it nowadays with the insane bigotry that J.K. Rowling is so fond of spouting and supporting publicly as well.
44. Do you like to listen to music when you read?
I usually put on something like a YouTube video featuring fireplace or rain ambient noises, like so:

Ships
Just keep in mind these are just my opinion ;) i respect your opinion if you disagree with any of these.
Ships that i am neutral/disgusted to/by:
Errorink (lil too overrated and doesn't make sense in canon since ink can't feel real love/ feel attracted to anyone)
Crossmare (it's a pretty popular ship on wattpad which i don't think is good now after Underverse 0.6)
Dustberry (I'd rather watch DustKiller divorces and i absolutely despise how people make blueberry a yandere– like even the creator of blue went like "fr nah" and wished to not be credited for blue's existance, and it doesn't make sense in canon since that way, wouldn't pap be a yandere?)
Ships that I am OK with:
Kustard: It's pretty good: a lazy person with an edgy one: pretty good ship material ngl
BloodyCrop/HorrorFarm: Pretty good: I can imagine Horror trying to smuggle the baby chickens and try to eat them XD
DustHorror: Pretty good since canon Dust despises/hates almost everyone in the Bad Sanses except Horror since they both have "similar experiences".
ErrorFresh: Though this is a ship that also wouldn't work out in canon since Fresh can't feel emotions, it's a pretty good ship idea since we can see in UnderVerse Extra Scenes we can see when Error realized that Ink technically broke the truce for helping Cross recreate his world, he was completely fine with said parasite's existence while he laughed like a banshee about his victory.
AfterDeath: Though it's a lil overrated just like ErrorInk, it makes more sense than ErrorInk since Reaper has death touch and Geno would be the only mortal/not-a-god that he could touch though it's weird thinking that Reaper would have had ___ with a zombie if they got into a relationship.
Ships I Enjoy a Lot:
AfterFell: It was actually really good ship material, but the sad thing was that AfterDeath overshadowed this ship because of Reaper's vulgar language (after Geno said: So you can go ahead and suck it, Reaper decided to go like: Well, I could do just that: eugh o_o). It would be nice to see Gaster telling Sans : "My job to get grandkids has been accomplished."
AfterClassic: (THIS IS JUST MY OPINION: DON'T ASK WHY MOST OF THE SHIPS I HAVE A POSITIVE OPINION ON INVOLVE GENO) it's a pretty good ship, and sometimes when I read the AfterTale comic I like thinking :"Oooh, AfterTale's Classic and Geno are having a divorce." Though AfterFell may have a bit more potential than this ship, it's still ok ;)
OuterKiller: It's a good ship: it was pretty popular before UnderVerse 0.3 or something came out (and that's why I had this phase where I hated Killer and Fatal because they hurt the beannnn) and BOOM crack went the ship: and KillerMare, a ship I don't enjoy came. Though this ship is dead, I still think it's really good!
ColorKiller: This ship kinda died too because of KillerMare's existance– though idk where this ship's origin is at, it's nice overall since it made Color, an underrated Sans get a lil more popular and more images for me to simp on.
Fresh!Ink x Fatal Error: I also don't know where this ship came from (somebody send me where) but i found it when i was searching on how to fix my computer, when i accidentally added a space and x and i found the ship ;-; It's pretty nice, since the two are supposed to be the two most powerful people in UnderVerse, and I can't wait to see if they have an interaction in UnderVerse 0.7 or smth ;D
Ship I Adore:
Fatal404: I KNOW THIS SHIP DOESN'T MAKE SENSE BC ERROR HATES FATAL ERROR AND ERROR 404 IS ERROR'S MENTOR: but I like it ;D so far there's only 1 Fatal404 video on YT that I know of, and it's pretty underrated since Fatal Error's also pretty powerful (according on a power chart on YT, Fatal's supposed to be 5th place, though an idiot decided to go like "cAp: eRrOr'S mOrE pOwErFuL aNd CoUlD 1 sHoT fAtAl: like legit go ask the creator: i know you stan for Error or ErrorInk, but just please get your resources from the right place, and even if it's fake, Fatal's my favorite and I think he'd at least be a Top 20 in the actual popular Sans groups– idc about any of your OCs like cRiTiCaL 4o4 gLiTcH pOwEr 1o1– it ain't known and accept that. )

The best review for new Exorcist on letterboxd was someone who said David Gordon Green has a habit of going for Classic Horror Movies with a shit sequel and a surprisingly good third installment, then worried he would do Elm Street because it fits the pattern. 1) Halloween 3 is insanely overrated. I get it got too much shit for not being Michael Myers, but it still kind sucks. 2) Nightmare on Elm Street 2 is actually pretty alright. 3) The original films still exist, just watch those and not the new ones? New Exorcist does look like ass... so I'm not gonna watch it? If they make new Freddie, I'm probably not gonna watch it? I didn't watch the last remake.

What I Watched in July
What didn't I watch this month?
Tumblr media
I was going to do my usual thing of just listing off every, single movie I watched within the month. They're usually short of ten, which is good since I'm only able to upload ten pictures at a time on here. But I had a very, very long leave. 31 days exactly. I was bored out of my mind, broke so there's not much I can do, and a natural homebody anyway. I watched a total of 20 movies, and that's only counting new ones. I watched all eleven seasons of Modern Family and then circled back halfway. I watched The Bear, which was pretty good! I'm a sucker for corny sitcoms so I polished off American Housewife. Rewatched some episodes of iZombie. Rewatched a few comfort movies, and decided to go down the horrors of the 80's.
I had a rule and that rule was to watch as many new movies as I could. I'm so prone to sticking to my comfort zones in many sectors of my life. It's why I'm a home-body, it's why I have three good friends, and it's also why hitting failure in the gym's a challenge - my 10-12 reps of moderate weights that only begin to challenge me on the last three is enough.
Anyway!
My favorite era of horror is the 2000's for two good reasons. It gave us gems like Wrong Turn, Texas Chainsaw (2006), Triangle, The Ring, Shutter, Dead Silence, etc. There's a style in storylines, tropes, camera angles, and just general ambiance that bookmarks it as the 2000's. Final girls running through the woods in a classic white tank and blue daisy shorts; A roofless Jeep barreling down a detoured road with teenagers/YA; an entity terrifying a protagonist and the library scene of them researching connections to their harrowing situations. The second reason is, of course, nostalgia. Kind of hard to beat. I grew up on these movies. They're so comforting. I've managed to stick to mostly 2000's and 2010's movies, but I know there are gems I'm missing out on. Few I'm already acquainted with are Misery, Death Becomes Her, The Craft, the Scream franchise, the Sixth Sense, etc. However, these movies are only a few years to a decade shy of the 2000's, which obviously took its influence from its predecessors. But two generations away? The 80's seemed far fetched. I convinced myself that I wouldn't like it or maybe I was too used to other horrors to find the syrupy, gooey looking blood and corny jumpscares scary enough, much less enjoyable. Granted, I did watch Nightmare on Elm Street, Child's Play, and Halloween, but I was only afraid of Child's Play because I watched it as a literal child. Nightmare and Halloween I'd watched a lot older and I don't like them at all. They're actually overrated to me.
So that was the goal this month. Watch some old shit. And that I did.
1. Shrooms (2007, Paddy Breathnach)
Tumblr media
A group of American teenagers head to Ireland to get high in the woods. With the help of a local tour guide, the group sets up camp for a trip of a lifetime. However, things take a turn when a deadly mushroom gives Tara the ability to see which of her friends will be killed off, as a mysterious murderer lurks close by.
I had to start with a new 2000's just to grease my way in.
This movie is not one to take seriously. It's a horror movie involving shrooms where there's a scene of a talking cow, so calm the think pieces on this one. It gives you a decent storyline and there are psychological aspects as one would guess, but nothing much different from any other YA slasher. It honestly requires nostalgia for me to love above a normal degree. Since I don't have that, it's a nice one and done watch. For some reason, though, I still bought the DVD. Maybe I'll watch it on my own trip.
One surprise is the hillbillies the teens run into that remind me of Tucker and Dale. They have absolutely nothing to do with the mess going on outside but are the easier targets to blame. Random, but it's so funny seeing hill billies outside of America. Growing up in another country where you watch all these American movies, you get these stereotypes in your head of what it all is. School lockers, Disney World, and Hillbillies in some state like West Virginia or Kentucky. Seeing an Aussie in the sticks is so funny to me.
The movie encompasses all that I like: dumb teens being killed off but in another country. Indigenous (2014), Hostel (2005), The Green Inferno (2013), As Above So Below (2014), and Turistas (2006) aren't shaking in their boots though. I for some reason don't want to talk about the ending. It's good. I just feel like this review is getting too long for how I really feel about this movie. A decent 5/10
2. Frankenhooker (1990, Frank Henenlotter)
Tumblr media
After a horrific accident butchers his wife Elizabeth, a pseudo-scientist Jeffrey gauges up a plan to rebuild his wife and bring her back to life piece by piece.
I found this one on Amazon Prime....which I thought I unsubscribed from. Not that this connects, but they are currently being sued for a few class action lawsuits, one being making it difficult to unsubscribe from their membership. But anyway, I had Prime. While simultaneously going through my bank statements, I was checking out their horror options. The ones that were free were obscure. Frankenhooker was among them.
The accident that murdered his wife Elizabeth was a lawnmower that Jeffrey himself created. It ran her over and tore her to bits. Aside from her head, a hand, and some miscellaneous limbs, he didn't get much from his dearly departed before her other parts were cleaned up. He concocts a plan to revive her with the upcoming lightning storm that should help reanimate her back into one piece. Only, he needs parts. So he shops for hookers downtown.
I outright laughed with this movie because it's so ridiculous. The scene of the hookers blowing up was so campy. When you can see the split second they replaced the actress with a dummy, oh my god. So goofy, but I actually respected. When you can see the amount of time that went into something so silly, it's actually fun. Practical effects show effort. I was imagining them making head molds out of the actresses and spending hours getting them right just to blow them up. Or painting those limbs; a dislocated foot, an arm, an entire thigh. It was all so much. The burbling purple liquid...so odd.
I would watch this one drunk with a group of friends. It's just camp, that's all I can say. That scene of the reanimated left over body parts? The ending?! The ridiculousness of it all. 9/10. I don't care. I just skimmed the director's other works and I'm adding them all to my lift if they're even close to Frankenhooker. A fun watch.
3. Christine (1983, dir. John Carpenter)
Tumblr media
17-year old, Arnie, buys and restores a rusty 1958 Nlumouyh Fury automobile. Unbeknownst to him, the car is possessed by a murderous entity.
I ain't even gon' hold you. I thought this movie would be stupid. In my head, it's only so thin the line can be to tread with a villain like this. A car....
But!
I was wrong. I am completely surprised by this and I understand why it is a classic. I even bought the DVD. We're officially in 80's territory, bordering on the 70's so the characters and their mannerisms were very uncanny valley for me but not too bad. This is my second John Carpenter movie alongside Halloween (1978). I've only watched The Fog (2005), but I've added 1980's to my list. I actually tried to start it but fell asleep and gave up. Not sure why, but anything other than Freaky Friday that has Jamie Lee Curtis as the final girl makes me sleepy.
I liked how there's no backstory as to why there's an entity in this car. From the day it was made, my girl Christine was killing. Didn't crawl out of hell and run into a conveyer belt, no Charles Lee Ray business; just made bad. She's regenerative, vengeful, and even jealous when Arnie, her new owner, gets a girlfriend. Arnie isn't the most popular guy in school and is constantly bullied, even with the help of his friend. Christine makes it her mission to rid Arnie of those who harm him. Later, she'll rid him of those who try to get between them. It was just such a good plot that was executed perfectly. I thought this was going to be some mess, but 10/10
4. Psycho II (1983, dir. Richard Franklin)
Tumblr media
After the murders in his hotel, Norman Bates is back in town on a clean slate. He goes back to Bates Motel where mother awaits.
In Scream 4, Kirby Reed made a comment about Psycho II being underrated. It stuck in my head for a while until I finally decided to watch it. I can 100% agree. Listen I'll find any reason to hate on Alfred Hitchcock like I would any abusive, misogynistic director in Hollywood, but Psycho II is better than its predecessor. Anthony Perkins reprises his role two decades later as the movie follows the same time frame. Norman has been hospitalized, diagnosed with BPD, and is released 20 years later following the incidents. Not all are on board, especially a persistent Lila Crane, but Emma Spool vouches for him so that he can get a job at a diner. He meets Mary Loomis (with apparent relations to Billy Loomis) and a new set of killing starts.
Before I even start, there are two Tillys? I was casually stalking the actors and realized that the actress for Mary is Jennifer Tilly's sister, Meg Tilly. I couldn't believe how small a'world we live in. Now I have to watch Body Snatchers (1993) and anything else Meg is in.
I loved the plot twist of this movie and how it all ended. Norman is really an unwell character so you find yourself sympathizing with the man. He's awful, but you watch as this man fails to discern reality from his own madness and how mother is incorporated into it. She is a mysterious woman. We don't see much of her, sort of like The Woman in Black. She is this big entity in the movie even though you know she isn't real. This movie is the peak of mommy issues. The ending where a real, flesh and blood option is open to Norman to have a mother but he's only interested in the twisted, evil version that haunts his head is fantastic. 10/10
5. Psycho III (1986)
Tumblr media
Bates Motel is still in business, and Norman is still free. He's fallen in love once more, this time to a fallen nun. But will his past be behind him, or will it all unravel in this third addition to the world of Norman Bates.
It only made sense to watch the third installment. You see more of the look of the 80's that it's so known for, especially slashers. This is where the infamous scene from Scream (1996) comes in when Billy Loomis says, "We all go a little mad sometimes."
The parts I liked were of course mother. She continues to be this looming, bigger than life figure tormenting those around Norman. I liked the slasher-like scene of the young partygoers dying at the hands of "mother." Maureen replaces Mary as a potential love interest as Norman provides her shelter in his motel. They fall in love, despite her knowing his past. The ice machine scene, the bathroom scene, even the showdown in room 12. Again, you really begin to feel sorry for Norman and the cards he was dealt. Not that a serial killing, mentally unwell white man needs it, but mother is really a prison of his own making. The scene of the cop sucking on that bloody ice cube turned by stomach more than my laxative pills ever could. 8/10
6. Psycho IV (1990)
Tumblr media
Released again, Norman Bates calls in on a radio show to retell his life as a young boy. Much to everyone's horror, when the show ends he has one last murder to commit to end it all.
I'm conflicted with this movie.
It's not bad...but 90% unnecessary. Aside from the ending where he finally burns down the house where it all started, I kind of didn't like that we got to meet mother. I've watched and loved Bates Motel (2013), so I'm aware that Norman and Norma always have incest - more so on Norman's part than Norma. In Bates Motel, Norma was creeped out but ignored it or tried to gently transition from Norman's weird attachment. In Psych IV, Norma punishes him harshly. She's severely abusive, negligent, and just awful. She blames Norman for everything, including his existence.
While it's interesting to watch his origin story and how he came to be, I kind of liked not really meeting Norma. I liked her being a decayed, fried out corpse in a chair. I liked meeting her only through Norman's unreliable retelling and untreated borderline personality. She was an entity..smoke and mirrors. Now that I've met her...I wanna kiss her.
She's hot.
Why would they make her hot? Plus she was a hypocrite. She would shame and abuse these women for being whores and sluts while she paraded around in no panties with a man she wasn't betroth to. I always pictured her as this uber-anal, only-have-sex-to-reproduce, stiff, old hag. When you build up a character that's existence is reliant on a character's retelling or the audience to fill in the blanks, it's so easy to ruin them by making them flesh and blood.
I want to pretend this movie doesn't exist.
Aside from the disappointment in meeting my hero, I liked the movie. The ending was solid. It's hopeful...and opens the door for more movies for Norman's spawn. 6/10. I really liked the movie. It can't be 100% a stand alone but it'd be a 8/10 if it was. I'd watch it as one and pretend it didn't ruin three other movies for me.
7. Black Christmas (2006)
Tumblr media
A murdering sociopath escapes prison and returns to his childhood home. However, he finds out that his house has been converted into a sorority house and begins killing the students living there.
The casting is amazing, for one. They pulled Lacey Chabert fresh off the set of Mean Girls. May Elizabeth Winstead had just wrapped up making history with Final Destination 3 (2006), lugging Crystal Lowe on set with her. Katie Cassidy had just finished getting slaughtered on When A Stranger Calls (2006). We practically grew up with Michelle Trachtenberg. It's like Do Revenge: drag the pop girls and boys from popular shows/movies and you'll have a cast people will be excited to see before even considering the plot.
Because this story sucked.
Maybe it's me. Maybe I'm the problem. This has everything I ever asked for in a 2000's movie. What else could I need? Am I ungrateful?
I have tried countless times to get into this movie. I'll cut the shit, like three times. And every time I have zoned out. I'm burnt out with this movie. It takes too much effort to be fully engaged and I don't know why. I love Sorority Row (2009), which has a similar premise, and Scream 2 with that sorority scene was amazing. I eat it up every time I watch it. Slashers with predominantly women casted is one of my bread and butters. But Black Xmas is just....I don't know. I don't know! I can't get into her. 3/10
8. The Thing (2011)
Tumblr media
Kate Lloyed, a paleontologist, is recruited to Antartica by a team of scientists when they discover an alien buried in the ice. However, when the alien escapes, the team fights to figure out who they can trust as the alien could be any one of them, mimicking their dead crew.
This is such a good movie to watch when it's grey, raining, or ice cold. I love Mary Elizabeth Winstead and she is one of my favorite horror girls. Plus I get to see Kristofer Hivju, who I drooled over in Game of Thrones. This creature feature has a good creature reveal that doesn't completely ruin it. If anything, it enhances it. That one scene of the alien merging too people together and then crawling around on all fours was amazing. They don't make it an easy alien movie where you can pinpoint the creature. It can turn itself into one of the crew members, mimicking everything except inorganic materials like teeth. You get this claustrophobic feeling since there's limited places to run. They're stuck in the cold, unforgiving land of Antartica with a town miles away. The ending was a nice addition. I immediately bought the DVD and it is now added to my collection. It would've been better to watch the original John Carpenter movie, but this one popped up on my Netflix header and I immediately clicked on it. 9/10
9. The Slumber Party Massacre (1982)
Tumblr media
When her parents go out of town, high school senior Trish decides to throw a slumber party. But things go downhill when an escaped killer wielding a power drill is loose in the neighborhood.
This movie seems derivative of Black Christmas (1974) and also came out the same year as the original The House on Sorority Row. Escaped convicts hacking up young girls were just on trend.
This one is kind of like Black Christmas (2006) for me. No matter how many times I watched it, it's like I never did. This is a rewatch, but not really because I didn't pay much attention the first time. It really brings nothing new for me. A movie doesn't necessarily need to be groundbreaking and fresh plot wise for me to like it, but it sure does need allure...some type of glue that keeps me watching. The Slumber Party Massacre didn't really have that for me. I watched it and immediately forget all that I just finished watching. As I watch these 80's movies, you really realize how nude obsessed this generation was. Pluto in Scorpio, sure, but these movies are just filled with boobs and bush, bush, bush. 5/10

what is your fave book? 🦇
ps I did not ignore your last reply, prommy. I just flopped this week?
i just wrote out a massive reply and tumblr banished it away for some reason so… here i go again.
i used to read basically a book a day, but recently i have been in the BIGGEST burnout and am lucky if i can get through one book a year 🙃
i don’t have a specific genre or a specific favourite book and i like to explore and dabble a little. i used to be into horror exclusively, i read all of the big name ‘must-read’ horror books until THAT scene in IT turned me away from the whole horror genre 😭 i mean… i was horrified by it alright…
after i started getting a bit bored of horror i got straight into classics, jane austen and pride and prejudice were my everything, i don’t care if it’s cliche or overrated - it’s my special baby. i could talk about classic english literature for days… all i’ll say is romeo and juliet was the gateway and it spiralled, and it spiralled hard.
the last book i read was the song of achilles and it was good, i cried A LOT. nothing else to say.
AND then if we’re talking non fiction, spells for change by Frankie Castanea (i hope i spelled their name correct) is great too. its basically about modern-day witchcraft and activism.
right now i’m honestly starting to get into romance but i don’t want to add many more books to my TBR when i’m in this burnout.
so i dont have a favourite, i’m too scared of commitment for that 😆😭

Alright imma bite the bullet, what horror movies have you seen if you don’t mind my asking? Just so I know what villains you know of.
Well I've watched a lot of B rated horror movies, me and my mom would watch them all the time since I was around four or five. I've seen a lot of obscure ones, rather than the known classics, but I can't for the life of me remember their names.
There was this one called "Nightmare Man" that was super dumb that I watched when I was 9. This woman kept saying the nightmare man was out to get her and the classic "Husband doesn't listen or care" trope plays as well as with her friends.
So they all start dying and what not, getting murdered, I can't remember the exact plot verbatim but it turns out she's nightmare man, despite that not being physically possible at certain times, and not making any sense for others such as how that persona was even made to begin with.
anyway long rant- I've seen some classic horror, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees (Even though it's technically his mom in the first one but eh who cares) and while I haven't seen Scream I do know the gist and have seen enough spoofs and memes to get the basic story plot. I've also seen "The Boy" and a few supernatural horror films!
Horror movies don't really scare me anymore, The Nun wasn't scary at all even the jump-scares were cheap to me, and while Sinister had a cool costume and concept I wasn't all too freaked out and more or less saw the movie as a pastime or documentary, not too invested in the characters.
At this point the only thing that scares me horror wise is uncanny valley horror and even then it's rare. I find that funny because when I was a kid everything- even Creepypastas- used to scare me, and now I think every scary story is trying too hard or trying to be too different and it kills the vibe for me :T Jeepers Creepers wasn't that scary either but my friend Nick is horrified of that thing, and I find IT overrated and feel even the original, while a classic, doesn't really get to me like it does other people.
I think I'm overexposed and expecting something more each and every time I DO get scared.

tagged by @ronandreams to list my favorite books read during 2022. since chance listed six, i’ll list six as well :)
1. the seven husbands of evelyn hugo by taylor jenkins reid
the only book i read in one sitting this year. soooo good you guys, definitely deserved the hype imo
2. fahrenheit 451 by ray bradbury
good book, definitely rings true, but of course no dystopian classic is complete without blatant misogyny and borderline pedophilia
3. jade legacy by fonda lee
this is the third and final installment of the green bone saga and oooh boy, was it a wild and fascinating ride. loved every second of it
4. the great gatsby by f scott fitzgerald
i can’t believe it took me this long to read this book, but i’m glad i did. it’s a classic look at the emptiness of western debauchery and commercialism
5. the house of hollow by krystal sutherland
this book is like if holly black met with hozier and florence welch and wrote a book. haunting, riveting, and a great YA horror read
6. the atlas six by olivie blake
don’t hate me for this, but this book was...kind of overrated? despite the lack of plot, the characters were intriguing and the aesthetic was *chef’s kiss*
