Hi! Firstly, I wanted to say, I LOVE your analysis, and your detailed deep dive into characters!!! I love your view of Sylvie, and I especially love your metas on Mobius (my beloved). I always jump with happiness, when your new meta shows up! :D Anyway, I wanted to ask - I know, you mentioned it many times but - how do you think the timeline of falling in love for the other looked like? I was thinking about it a lot. Like when Loki started to fall for Mobius? How s2e1 and the fact, that Mobius didn't remember him impacted him? What you think, that was THE moment, when Loki fall for Mobius as heard as he could? And what was the moment he realized he loved him? (and what did he THINK ABOUT THAT????) Also how do you think he was copying with this love for Mobius for those centuries in a loop?? ... And same for Mobius :D When do you think he actually fell for THIS specific Loki? When did he had that OH moment? :D (when he realized he love him) (Also how the 1893 DATE impacted them??? xD ) And lastly, what they think the other is feeling? They seem to me, like classic IDIOTS IN LOVE trope, but I would really REALY love to see your thoughts on that!!! Once again, I thank you for all your work, you're brilliant (I fell in love with your meta on sense and sensibility) Have a great day!!! ❤️ PS: I'm sorry for mistakes (I'm terrible at English) Tru
LET'S TALK ABOUT WHEN THEY STARTED FALLING FOR EACH OTHER
As always, thank you to all the lovely gif artists who make my metas possible.
Thank you so much for your patience @trutrustories!
With respect to the individual timelines of when Mobius and Loki "fall for each other", obviously my take is subjective and there are plenty of viewers who don't see any romantic angle between them at all. That's fine because even without the romantic angle, I think the timelines I map out still demonstrates key moments in which Mobius and Loki's relationship with each other deepens.
As a warning, since this is a timeline request from the perspective of two characters, this post is MASSIVE.
NARRATIVE TECHNIQUES
As a general note, the Loki series uses a few narrative techniques fairly regularly.
A.) REFRAMING / REVERSE PAY-OFF
The series has a habit of reframing the interpretation of previous episodes with the presentation of new information in future episodes. That is, reverse pay-off. Here are key examples, which I discuss in the "timelines" later:
Sylvie tells Loki she can't sleep in front of people she doesn't trust in S1E3; Loki falls asleep in front of Mobius in S1E2
Loki describes love as a dagger in S1E3; Mobius gives Loki daggers in S1E2.
Loki timeslips "uncontrollably", yet manages to timeslip back to Mobius with increasing accuracy in S2E1; Loki realizes timeslipping can be controlled by thinking about "who" in S2E5.
B.) MIRRORING
Loki mirrors Mobius's emotional trajectory from S1E1 - S2E1 (S1E3 has no Mobius). Episode 5 in BOTH seasons is when they both give each other up for the sake of the other.
Sylvie (chaos) & Ravonna (order) and Loki (chaos) & Mobius (order).
C.) REPETITION
Loki loses Mobius after realizing he wants and returns his friendship. Mobius is pruned. (S1E4)
Loki loses Mobius after realizing he and Sylvie "don't see things the same way". Mobius has no memory of him. (S2E1)
Loki loses Mobius after realizing he (Loki) loves him. Mobius (as Don) spaghettifies. (S2E5)
Loki loses Mobius after realizing he has to give him up to save everyone. Mobius is left behind. (S2E6)
Let's keep these narrative techniques in mind as we proceed!
MOBIUS
Mobius is pretty straightforward. Though I didn't perceive any romantic love in my first watch through of S1, the angle of romance feels more credible when reviewing S1 after having seen S2E1. S2E1 reframes how we can view Mobius's emotional motivations.
The inferred backstory, as the audience understands it, is that Mobius has studied Lokis for eons. Loki is his area of expertise. His pet project. His special interest. As I mentioned in another meta, it's perfectly reasonable for someone to gradually fall in love with the subject matter of their work over time. In this case, that subject matter happens to be an actual person.
By the time Loki is apprehended by the TVA, Mobius already had a plan in motion to save him from deletion. This wasn't a spur of the moment decision for him. Mobius had been preparing for this encounter for a while. Likely centuries. This is inferred through the fact another TVA agent seeks Mobius out immediately with Loki (L1130)'s file. Why bother doing that if all variants who cause a nexus event get "reset"?
Tumblr media
And boy, is Mobius eager to have Loki by his side once he has him. In what world would anyone offer 2012 Loki a handshake? Mobius's, apparently.
Tumblr media
Mobius also doesn't hesitate to touch Loki right off the bat. When Loki pauses to look at the TVA "world", Mobius lays a guiding hand on Loki's back. (Unfortunately couldn't find the gif for this).
It also doesn't take Mobius long to get emotionally compromised once he has Loki under his wing. I talk about the exact moment I believe this happens here.
Tumblr media
This reaction from Loki, in response to Mobius's praise, is a big moment for both of them. They genuinely like and enjoy one another in this scene.
Moments later, Mobius absolutely gushes about Loki to his best friend boss lady, Ravonna.
He's so proud of Loki's breakthroughs and is really happy with how well they work together as a team. So much so that his judgment gets clouded and he insists on bringing Loki out into the field, where Loki's most likely to betray him.
Tumblr media
NOTE: The moment above is when I believe he's officially compromised.
By the middle of S1E2, Mobius fell first. However, I don't think Mobius realizes the exact nature of his feelings for Loki until S1E5. From a platonic standpoint, Mobius definitely started thinking of Loki as a friend by this time. Otherwise, he wouldn't have called Loki a "bad friend" in S1E4.
In a S1 interview, Tom describes Mobius as having love for Loki, and Loki, at that point in his character development, "not wanting that" (you can see a compilation of interviews with Tom and Owen here). Based on this, I think it's safe to say that Mobius's love for Loki is not only genuine but also unconditional and abiding.
This unconditional, abiding love is what allows Mobius to want to believe in Loki despite his evident betrayal in S1E4. In the same episode, he implies via rhetorical question that Loki doesn't deserve to be alone and accepts that it's Sylvie that Loki wants to be with.
Tumblr media
If Mobius hadn't accepted this, he wouldn't have made it his focus to bring Sylvie to Loki in S2E5.
Tumblr media
And as I mention elsewhere, the moment below was the first instance in which I felt there could be unrequited love. I think Mobius's realizes it, too, in this scene:
Tumblr media
Mobius maintains his acceptance of Loki's feelings for Sylvie throughout S2, however grudgingly. A microanalysis of the McDonald's scene may be reviewed here.
In S2E1, Mobius's love for Loki is demonstrated throughout. I discuss how pivotal this episode is here.
Tumblr media
In terms of Mobius's personal perspective on their relationship. I think Mobius believes he will only ever Loki's friend and #2, as opposed to #1, a position he believes Sylvie holds.
While Mobius knows Loki will support him as a friend and can count on his protection on the field, I don't think it ever crosses his mind that Loki would prioritize him (that is, place Mobius as #1). Their last private interaction would reinforce Mobius's notion that Loki will take Sylvie's side if given the choice to choose between the two of them:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And while Mobius might not like it, while Mobius is clearly hurt by it, he doesn't allow this interaction to ruin his friendship with Loki. Because he loves Loki deeply.
Tumblr media
It can even be argued that, in addition to personal guilt due to his role in the TVA, Mobius doesn't fight Sylvie's accusations because to do so would hurt Sylvie, and hurting Sylvie would hurt Loki, which is unacceptable. Therefore, Mobius just takes it, even though it would be very easy to point out to Sylvie that killing HWR triggered the crisis they're in.
As far as Mobius is concerned, he mostly likely thinks his love continues to be unrequited and has made peace with that since S1. His final scene could be interpreted as grief over the loss of a friend as well as grief over the loss of what could have been.
Tumblr media
LOKI
Loki's feelings for Mobius evolve much more gradually, and the emotional journey of those feelings is accordingly more complex.
In S1E1, I believe Loki appreciates Mobius's directness. I know I've stated this multiple times, but I think it bears repeating: a lot of Loki fans absolutely hate Mobius's treatment of Loki in this episode, but I think it's important to remember where Loki's state of mind is at.
There was no way 2012 Loki would have been receptive to soft compassion. He doesn't understand soft. He sees softness as a weakness and refuses to engage with it because he doesn't want to be seen as soft. What 2012 Loki does understand is cruelty. He will listen and pay attention to cruelty because cruelty is a gesture of power, and power is control. His default mode is the desire and respect of power, which Mobius has over him. He respects that he has been bested. Crucially, Mobius balances his cruelty (to get Loki to listen) with genuine kindness. This is what allows Loki's first breakthrough of choosing to be vulnerable with Mobius. Admitting he doesn't like hurting people, that he is weak, (that he isn't happy), requires trust on Loki's part that Mobius will not mock him for it.
Tumblr media
Unlike Mobius, Loki does not have access to files and tape recordings on Mobius's life. As such, Loki starts out with less power in their dynamic. All he knows about Mobius is what he gleans from Mobius's treatment of him and others. And Mobius, even when he is frustrated and annoyed with Loki, consistently gives Loki chances to demonstrate his ability outside of the context of being a villain. He never gives up on him.
Mobius, through his consistency of compassion and refusal to abuse his power (until he's betrayed in S1E4), proves he is trustworthy to Loki.
Tumblr media
Nevertheless, the power imbalance puts Loki in a corner where he can't afford to place all his eggs in the Mobius basket. There's manipulation happening between them, and they both know it, so their interactions in S1, while entertaining for both of them, are also colored with mutual distrust.
For this reason, in addition to raw curiosity and poor impulse control, Loki runs after Sylvie and betrays the friendship with Mobius he didn't know he already had.
In S1E3, we have our first instance of new information paying off the meaning of a scene from a previous episode. On the train, Sylvie informs Loki she cannot sleep in front of people she doesn't trust (can't find the gif with the quote). Since Sylvie is a Loki, the audience can infer the same baseline nature may apply to "our" Loki as well.
In S1E2, we find Loki sleeping across Mobius. The significance of this is implied but not confirmed until S1E3.
Tumblr media
When Sylvie wakes up (having fallen asleep despite herself, reinforcing the relational impact of Mobius to Loki to Sylvie, as well as affirming tentative trust on her part), she finds Loki drunk. When people are drunk, subconscious feelings come to the fore.
It is here that we have our second instance of new information paying off a scene from the previous episode. Or alternatively, Loki's interpretation of a previous moment with Mobius defined in a scene with Sylvie: "Love is a dagger."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Personally, I don't think Loki feels any love for Mobius when he makes his infamous metaphor. What I think happens in this scene, is that Loki has subconsciously interpreted the gift of daggers as an act of love.
Why?
Because daggers are for stabbing people in the back. For someone to give another a dagger implies absolute trust. That level of trust entails love.
But at this point in the story, Loki's experience with love and trust is very new. Perhaps it stands to reason, at least in Loki's hindbrain, that those feelings would be better directed at someone familiar, someone like himself: Sylvie. It certainly helps that he's immediately fascinated with her to begin with and he genuinely cares for her.
Tumblr media
Significantly, upon Loki making the dagger disappear, Sylvie describes the dagger, love, as "it isn't real". This is an answer Loki intentionally draws out of Sylvie, because he and Sylvie are the same, which reinforces the thought that the love he subconsciously feels from Mobius cannot possibly be real. I think this may be what Tom is alluding to when he describes Loki as not wanting Mobius's love (because he isn't ready for it yet, even if it's purely platonic).
Loki and Sylvie's capture in S1E4 lead to the interrogation scene, which in turn leads to the tension of mutual distrust and mutual desire for trust snapping. This is articulated when Mobius calls Loki a "bad friend", which startles him. Within the MCU canon, no one has ever called Loki a 'friend'.
The tension breaks when Mobius returns to Loki, and they make very clear, active choices about what they want:
They choose to forgive one another
They choose to trust one another
They choose to affirm that a friendship between them exists
They choose to be on the same page and side
They talk through their fight in a very direct and healthy way. In addition to being called a 'friend' for the first time, it's highly likely this is the first time Loki has successfully mended fences with someone who isn't family. Thus, in one episode, Loki has had not 1 but 2 substantive milestones that contribute not just to his relationship with Mobius but his personal healing and growth.
Tumblr media
But the narrative demands that as soon as the main character experiences triumph, they must experience tragedy, too.
Tumblr media
Loki loses Mobius a total of 4 times in the series:
Loki loses Mobius after realizing he wants and returns his friendship. Mobius is pruned. (S1E4)
Loki loses Mobius after realizing he and Sylvie "don't see things the same way". Mobius has no memory of him. (S2E1)
Loki loses Mobius after realizing he (Loki) loves him. Mobius (as Don) spaghettifies. (S2E5)
Loki loses Mobius after realizing he has to give him up to save everyone. Mobius is left behind. (S2E6)
If you notice, Loki's emotional journey, at least as far as romantic reciprocation is concerned, is more or less a season behind Mobius's. Its progression is also punctuated by loss almost as soon as the personal epiphany occurs.
Tumblr media
After Sylvie, for lack of a better word, "dumps" him, Loki has time to reflect on what has transpired, the dire consequences likely awaiting, and who has chosen to support him all along (a review of Mobius's decision-making where Loki's well-being is concerned may be read here.)
With this in mind, Loki runs in search of Mobius.
Which makes encountering a Mobius who doesn't know him, that much more devastating.
Tumblr media
Tom's acting here is something else. Loki's desperation to have his Mobius back is visceral and foreshadows a similar desperation in S2E5. This moment, I feel, is the beginning of Loki's feelings tilting from platonic love to romantic. He's not fully there yet like Mobius already is, but it's starting.
And that gradual build-up of investment in Mobius spreads over S2E1 - S2E5. In these S2 episodes, Loki mirrors Mobius's emotional trajectory from S1E1 - S2E1 (S1E3 has no Mobius). Keep this mirroring in mind because Episode 5 in BOTH seasons is when they both give each other up for the sake of the other.
In S2E2, Loki protects Mobius physically:
Tumblr media
And supports him emotionally:
Tumblr media
In S2E3, Loki enjoys his magic and curbs its intensity for Mobius:
Tumblr media
In S234, unbeknownst to Mobius, Loki defends his character and his efforts to save the timelines:
Tumblr media
Now, S2E5 is where it all culminates.
Tumblr media
I'm getting close to the gif threshold and the fit-check has been discussed at length, so I want to focus on this scene. Here, Loki tells Mobius that he "belongs" in the TVA and that he saved Loki's life when he first arrived. This shot of Loki saying Mobius's name echoes Mobius's look of unrequited love in S1E5's goodbye scene.
But I don't think Loki has fully articulated, in his mind, exactly what his feelings are because he's rushing. His sole focus for the time-being is getting Mobius back, and he does so, temporarily, through recruiting Don.
It's when Loki find's Sylvie that he has the time to once again reflect on the nature of his and Mobius's relationship and his regard for it as he did in S1E6. And it is, once again, Sylvie who acts as the catalyst for Loki's emotional epiphany.
When Sylvie challenges Loki to say what he actually wants, he struggles to respond. The want is too vulnerable to reveal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love Tom's micro-expressions in the above gifs (thank you @starrose17!) The pursed lips, the hard swallow, and the tears welling up in his eyes ... This is it, this is the moment I believe Loki finally realizes he's in love with Mobius.
He phrases his desire as wanting his friends back. That's true enough (an analysis of what the TVA means to Loki and Mobius may be read here). However, Loki later reuses the word "belong" and applies it to himself. Mobius, in his words, "belongs" in the TVA. Without his friends (the TVA) where does Loki "belong"?
This is outside of text and the sociopolitical conflict between the artists and the studio, but the case can be made that Loki doesn't entirely trust Sylvie with his feelings. Loki did, after all, witness Sylvie reprimand and humiliate Mobius. To directly admit love for the same person Sylvie harshly rebuked may not be received well, but I think Sylvie already knows and may have known as far back as when she commented "he cares about you" in S1E5.
From Loki's perspective, I think Loki knows Mobius loves him, but I am less certain if Loki knows Mobius loves him romantically. That said, prior to his sacrifice, I think Loki was emotionally ready to confess. I also believe Loki, while not 100% confident his romantic love would be reciprocated, senses his odds for reciprocation are good.
Unfortunately, their fate was to become star-crossed lovers.
(For now).

A Mischievous Mistletoe
Pairing: Loki x Fem!Reader
Plot:
Like most rom-coms, our reader has to fake a date for a Christmas with her relatives. And who can be better than her best friend? A classic best friends-to-lovers plot. Again.
Warnings: None, just cheesy, clichéd fluff with a little angst in the middle.
Read time: ~36 mins
Note: This was part of a drabble request that was made in October. 🙄 I know! I’m slower than the slowest sloth! And it ended up much longer than what a drabble should be. I’m so sorry, @muddyorbsblr , I just…IDK how to defend myself!!
Tumblr media
It was a languid afternoon - one of the few that the residents of the Avengers Compound could tell a tale about. The afternoon sun slid in through the open window of a certain room, caressing in its wake, the line of pothos spilling off the windowsill, the bench right next to it, and the handful of decors and furniture that it could find in the minimally but strikingly furnished room.
In the process of colouring everything gold, the rays of the departing sun painted a certain prince - or should we call him king? - in its glorious shade, making his appearance even more ethereal, more regal than he already looked. With a book in hand, Loki lay on the bench, relishing a few lazy moments stolen from time. His eyes darted across the pages, consuming the content, like a lover’s eyes would feast upon their beloved.
But moments like these, where one remembers nothing but their simplest desires, are usually short-lived, aren’t they?
A slow, unsure knock on the door whipped Loki out of his solitary bubble. There was only one human who would dare to disturb this particular Asgardian during his alone-time.
“Hey, Loki!”
Standing at the threshold of Loki’s room, (Y/N) barely poked her head inside as she greeted him with a sheepish and tiny voice. Her friendship with the trickster went far enough for her to admit herself into his room without waiting for his permission.
With a heavy sigh, the God of Mischief shut the book, but not before sliding a bookmark between the pages. The pages of the hardbound cover met each other with a muffled thud.
“What did you do now?” He asked her with an air of indifference.
Her sheepish grin morphed into a grimace as she wondered how to unveil the Gordian knot that she had tied.
When she did not respond but kept wringing her hands, Loki raised a brow at her. “Do I have to dig a grave?” He asked in a monotonous tone although bubbles of laughter were threatening to erupt within him. His grip on the book tightened to keep these mischievous little things imprisoned inside.
“Yeppp! Mine,” she mumbled.
“Hmm.” With a swift and graceful manoeuvre, he slid his long legs off the window bench. The careless tail of his robe tugged at a stray cushion, causing it to flop on the floor near his feet.
Standing tall before her, he held the book close above her head. Knitting his brows together and pursing his lips, he looked her up and down, and hummed to himself. A confused (Y/N) traced his movements with questioning eyes as he placed his hands on both sides of her but a little away.
Once realisation dawned upon her, she clicked her tongue and swatted his hands away. “Not mine, you smartass!”
“But I am sure I heard you requesting a grave for yourself!” Loki’s eyes betrayed his tight lips that were trying to suppress the surge of amusement boiling inside him.
“Okay! I did something…stupid,” she finally brought herself to confess.
“Amuse me.” He strode back to the bench, and lay down with his hands behind his head, the book now finding refuge on the coffee table. The cushion that lay on the floor was now being stroked gently by the hem of his parted green robe which, in turn, revealed a long leg - clad in soft trousers of a darker green - crossed over the other.
Exhaling deeply, she began, “Well, umm…you know my cousin, Laura? The one with a snob for a nose and daggers for a tongue and…and a large black hole for a heart?” She described with a dramatic roll of her eyes.
“Hmm,” Loki sported a mischievous smirk. “Are you speaking of that cousin of yours with skin like molten gold, with eyes like a doe’s and with a mouth that is too luscious to not be kissed? Yes, I remember her.”
(Y/N) didn’t realise how hard she was clenching her jaws or how obviously she was glaring at Loki until the latter shot back a knowing grin.
“Are you jealous?” He purred like a proud cat who had successfully cornered his victim.
“Hah! Why the hell should I be? I just…don’t like her. That’s it,” she dismissed his accusation with a wave of her hand. “She’s vile!”
“She’s attractive,” he defended.
“What the-? I can’t believe you’re on her side!”
“I am simply stating the facts,” he shrugged nonchalantly.
“Fine! Just...float in her thoughts. I won’t disturb you!”
She was quick to turn her back and stomp away. But Loki was quicker. He got off his seat and caught her wrist just as she was about to grab the door handle.
“Wait,” he whispered.
Whether it was Loki’s magic touch or his Silvertongue or his ability to control thoughts, she could never figure it out. But she was always surprised by the way he could pull the strings of her heart, how he always managed to get his way. Of course, he was one of her closest friends, her confidante, the person with whom she fought but also shared her best moments. But there was something about him that was…magnetic.
She found it mildly frustrating how, without even a single word of protest, her entire being immediately agreed to stay back. Loki gently ushered her to the window bench, the sun now finding a new figure, somewhere else in the room, to paint its hues on.
“Tell me. I promise not to utter a single word about your gorgeously desirable cousin. Not until you have told me everything,” his teasing tongue erupted a small fire within her, and he enjoyed it immensely.
She sighed, “Well, where do I even begin!”
Loki was waiting patiently through the long pause that she rested upon. But when it looked like she was lost in her thoughts even after a minute, he cleared his throat.
“Ah!” Slightly startled, she looked at him apologetically. “I’m sorry. I just…”
“What happened?” Loki placed a comforting hand over hers. “I shall do my best to fix it.”
“I know! And that is why I came to you. But now I think it was a bad idea. It was a bad idea from the beginning!”
“Would you please tell me?” He insisted.
“Well,” she sighed again, “Laura is hosting a Christmas party at her place this year. And she has invited me. Obviously!!” She rolled her eyes at the last word.
“So?”
“So,” (Y/N) gave an exasperated laugh, “I can’t go without a date!! I know it sounds clichéd, like some stupid plot from some stupid Christmas movie, but it’s freaking real!!”
“Darling, you will go ultrasonic in a few minutes!” Loki grimaced. “Please calm down!”
“I’m sorry! I’m just furious!! She’s always been bragging about her stupid boyfriend who’s always wrapped around her finger like a band-aid, and constantly mocking me for being single. I mean, it’s my choice that I’m single! It’s not like I’m averted to the idea of having someone in my life, it’s just that I won’t just say ‘yes’ to anybody who comes my way! And I know very well that she has invited me to vex me in front of the entire family!”
“Then do not go,” Loki suggested calmly.
“If I do not go, she’ll spread stories about how I chickened out because I’ll turn up alone, without somebody around my arm. Again!”
“Hmm,” the raven-haired prince pressed a long finger to his lips. “How do you want me to help? Should I change her mind? If you know what I mean.”
His mischievous smirk succeeded in breaking a small smile on her otherwise angry countenance.
“I wish, but no!” (Y/N) shook her head. “I… Well, I already told her that I’d be going. And…”
“And?”
She bit her lip. “And I said that I’d be bringing a plus one.”
“And you wish me to be that plus one,” Loki summed up.
She gave a meek nod of her head.
“No.” The god got up and strode across the room, leaving her with an open mouth and wide eyes.
“No?” She jumped up on her feet. “What do you mean ‘no’?”
The moment Loki shot her a glare, he tone changed into a humble one. “Please don’t say ‘no’!”
“I have already said it.”
“Then please change it! Loki, I really need your help!”
“There are so many attractive men in this compound; get one of them!”
“Look, it’s not like I haven’t tried. No one’s available!”
He eyed her doubtfully.
“I’d asked Steve but he said that he won’t be able to constantly lie to my family,” she reasoned. “I don’t know if Bucky would be comfortable under all that pressure. I don’t trust Thor with his big mouth. No offence!”
“None taken,” an amused smile toyed on his lips.
“And then there’s Sam…” A thought crossed her mind. With furrowed brows she continued, “Wait, I didn’t ask Sam.”
“There you go,” Loki gestured towards her with a snap of his fingers, “your problem has been solved.”
After assessing a few things in her mind, she spread her arms, “Nope, not Sam.”
“Why not?”
“Because he would be going out with someone else! He had said this long back. I knew there was something, some reason for which I didn’t ask him but just couldn’t put my finger on it!”
The trickster pinched the bridge of his nose. “And why would I do it? What would I get in return?”
(Y/N) looked at him disbelievingly. “I thought I was your friend!! The closest one, in fact! You won’t help a friend in need?”
Deep within, Loki knew that he would help her as soon as she had uttered one word. But it was the social gathering that he wanted to avoid. He had endured enough scepticism on this planet; he did not wish to attract more.
But (Y/N) was persuasive.
So, it was with utter displeasure that Loki ultimately found himself standing in front of Laura’s door on the eve of Christmas.
Beside him, (Y/N) was fidgeting with her hair and her coat. Despite the chilly air, a paleness veiled her face, and her usual cheerful persona was replaced by a quiet one.
“Are you alright?” Loki gently touched her shoulder.
“Yes. Yes, I’m alright. I just...” She shook her head. “I hate people poking their heads into my private life. And now I’ve dragged you with me! I’m sorry!”
“You do not need to do this if you do not want to.” His tone was so kind that it almost made her cry.
“It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s…” She trailed off.
Once again, Loki waited for her patiently, searching her eyes for all the unsaid things. He could relate to her. He knew how it felt when one had to smile their way through people who did not like them, when one had to constantly fear the sharp daggers of words stabbing them any time. And he felt bad for her.
“Let us do it!” He took his hand in his and squeezed it.
The sudden touch and the sudden command from Loki surprised her. “What? No, no, it’s alright. We can head back. Let’s head back. We don’t need to-”
“We need to!” Loki cut her off. “Let us show them who you are: a fearless, confident, beautiful woman who does not need anyone else to validate her life for her.”
She stared at him with awe.
“Who is this man?!”
Loki had always been supportive but this was on a totally different level! And all the adjectives that he laid down for her - they were enough to make her want to wrap her arms around him.
Before she had the time to react or to have second thoughts about her second thoughts, Loki rang the doorbell. A few seconds later, a woman, clad in a short red dress that hugged all her curves deliciously, opened the door. (Y/N) noticed the way Loki took in her appearance.
“Oh my God, (Y/N)!” The said woman threw her arms around the guest who, in turn, rolled her eyes.
“Hey, Laura!” (Y/N) patted her back.
“And you must be her plus one,” the way Laura eyed Loki made (Y/N) want to gauge her cousin’s eyes out.
“I am Loki,” he took the hostess’s hand and lightly touched his lips to it. “You look gorgeous!”
“You are not so shabby yourself,” Laura grinned like a Cheshire cat, “and what a gentleman!”
Their actions made (Y/N) slightly sick. She hated her cousin. And now Loki - the person she was the closest with - was shamelessly flirting with her.
“It’s kind of chilly out here,” (Y/N) interrupted. “Mind if we go inside?”
Laura wrapped an arm around Loki’s and tugged him inside.
“Where’s your fiance?” (Y/N) asked her cousin with a hope to divert her attention from her friend.
“He had to go abroad for a meeting. You know how busy these high profile businessmen can get!”
With a fake smile, (Y/N) nodded and asked for a glass of water hoping, once again, that her cousin would let go of Loki.
As she walked away, Loki leaned slightly towards his companion and whispered in her ear, “Are you sure a glass of water will work or should we call the firemen?”
“You don’t get to talk!” She almost shouted but Loki shushed her. “You don’t get to talk,” she whispered this time. “How dare you flirt with her!! And you have the audacity to joke about it! Outrageous!”
“What can I say,” the god gave his famous smirk, “I’m just trying to blend in.”
“Blend in shit!!”
When (Y/N) saw Laura walking back with a glass in hand, she quickly grabbed Loki’s arm, surprising the god in the process.
“Ooh! I didn’t know you were so possessive about me!” He whispered.
One glare from her was enough to silence his mouth but the mirth remained in his eyes.
"Just play along, will you?" She gritted through her teeth. “From afar.”
Loki and (Y/N) walked amidst her relatives, arm in arm, presenting themselves as the happy couple that everyone was delighted to see! No questions, no arguments, no pitiful looks, no sarcastic comments - (Y/N) was finally beginning to feel the triumph in her seemingly “stupid” decision.
But fate seemed to have other plans for her.
Loki suddenly stopped in his tracks, a bewilderment shielding his beautiful face.
“What in the Nine…” Loki's voice trailed off as he gaped at one particular decoration. He tapped (Y/N)'s shoulder. "What is that bunch of twigs doing here?"
"Which one?" Her eyes searched the place until it followed the trail that Loki’s long finger pointed at.
“Ah that! That is a … mistletoe." Much to her annoyance, a faint blush crept up her cheeks as she uttered the name.
While she was praying that Loki doesn’t notice her embarrassing state, the latter was busy spiralling down his own thoughts.
“I know what it is!” He “whispered” loud enough for people within at least six feet to hear him. “I demand to know what it is doing here!”
The blatant lack of his usual calm demeanour alarmed her. He was not the kind to act inappropriately in front of people, especially strangers, and especially the ones who were related to her.
“Did it trigger some old memories?... Maybe he had some bad experience with a former…girlfriend?”
The word “girlfriend” tasted like vinegar, even in her thoughts. But being wise enough, she was able to swallow it down quickly.
“It is a tradition, Loki,” she explained. “Loki, are you alright? Is something wrong? We can head back if you are feeling unwell.”
It was the concern in her voice that pulled him back from his rumination. A swift lick of his dry lips, a subtle clearing of his throat, followed by a deep breath, and the lines on his forehead were gone just as quickly as they had appeared.
“No. I am absolutely fine.” His hands ran over his jacket in an attempt to smoothen out the non-existent wrinkles. “Shall we?”
Unwilling to poke any buried feelings, she decided to let the matter go, and happily looped her arm into the one that Loki had so politely extended towards her.
Sitting in a far corner of the living room, with her third drink in hand, she observed the room. Or maybe it wouldn’t be very wrong to say that she observed one particular person and the interactions of the rest of the family with him.
The fact that everyone believed her lie about their relationship made her feel relieved.
The fact that Loki was able to smoothly blend in with the family made her happy.
The fact that he was unashamedly flirting with the very cousin who never missed an opportunity to make her feel like shit made her miserable.
But even amidst the pile of various emotions, she did not miss how Loki’s eyes failed to shine as they usually did, how those smiles never reached his eyes. And it had all begun ever since he had laid eyes on that damned mistletoe.
Chugging her drink down, along with her despondent thoughts, she pushed herself off the chair and strutted towards him.
“He’s my friend. To hell with the world!”
Her throat was still burning from the alcohol when she reached him. When Loki looked up at her, he had a flirty smile stuck on him. But something about her expressions evaporated that mask away. He got up from the loveseat he was sharing with Laura, much to the annoyance of the latter.
“Are you alright?” Just a second ago, he had been using his coquettish voice, and now it was gone in an instant; his words were dripping with concern.
“Are you alright?” She asked him back. “You look like you’re in desperate need of a rescue!”
“Where is this coming from?”
She couldn’t believe her own words! Three drinks shouldn’t have been enough to make her tipsy but they had surely tore her inhibitions down. All this time she had swallowed her jealousy down, and allowed him to do whatever he pleased. But the boldness that voiced itself now came as a surprise even to her slightly foggy mind.
His mouth slightly parted in wonder. Loki looked between his “date” for the night and the cousin who was clearly furious. Clearing his throat, he smiled, “I would love to take a walk, if you are willing to accompany me.”
He was further surprised when (Y/N) extended an arm towards him, just like he had done a couple of hours ago. Taking it rather happily, he whispered to her cousin, “I shall be right back.”
“No, he won’t!” (Y/N) shouted over her shoulder, making the trickster chuckle.
Once outside, the chilly night air seemed to clear her senses a bit while also pulling her out of the suffocation she felt inside those walls.
“So,” Loki began in a soft voice, “are you alright? You seem a little…tipsy.”
“Yes, I am, your majesty, a little tipsy!” She replied with an air of royalty, making Loki laugh. “And I like it!”
“Is there any place where we can sit?” Loki looked around the snow-covered lawn.
“The bitch has a swing somewhere in here,” his companion slurred. “Ah, there it is!”
What she had called a swing turned out to be a porch swing. Loki had noticed her lips quivering in the cold. So, once they settled down on the seat, he wrapped a careful arm around her and pulled himself closer to her. Drunk on both alcohol and the closeness of Loki in the winter night, she did not care as her head rolled comfortably on her teammate’s shoulder.
For a few heartbeats, neither spoke. The chills of Winter - accentuated by the snowflakes flying past them - and a hypnotic silence enveloped them in one of the most calming moments of their entire lives. And Loki had already lived a rather long life, compared to (Y/N).
(Y/N) was the first to pop the bubble. “When we stepped inside, you…well, the mistletoe bothered you.”
She paused to gauge Loki’s reaction. When she found almost none, she continued. “Why was that? I mean, you need not tell me if you don’t want to. You know I won’t force you, right?”
She trod on the topic gingerly, afraid that any rash word might crack the proverbial glass beneath their feet.
With a sigh, Loki stared at the veil of white covering the ground. “It is a long, morbid story.”
“And I’m in no hurry,” she added softly, “but only if you’re okay with sharing it.”
“I…” Loki began but soon became unsure as to which words to use. There was no easy way to say it aloud. It was something that he would rather keep buried in him with the hope of eventually forgetting than sharing with someone who might understand.
“I had a brother,” he resumed after a pause. “A brother other than Thor.”
“What happened to him?”
“Apparently, … I killed him.”
(Y/N) sat up with a jolt. For a moment, Loki could not help but believe that she was disgusted by him, just like people always have been most of his life.
“You did not, did you?” Her question stunned him. No one had ever asked him this. “You said ‘apparently’. People presumed that it was you. Wasn’t it?”
A taunting laugh mingled with the cold air to form a wisp. “Why? I am the worst, am I not? Always plotting against everyone and wishing nothing but everybody’s ruin!”
There it was. The hurt was spilling through his words. She regretted having asked him about the mistletoe in the first place. Well, never in her entire life would she have thought that the story would take such a turn.
(Y/N) fumbled with her words for a while before resuming her composure. “Loki, I know you. Probably better than anyone else does. Which is why I know that you won’t kill your brother. Not unless it was necessary.”
“Necessary?”
“You know, like he went all crazy and started killing people or something.”
Her words made him laugh, even though it sounded rather sad.
“No,” he replied, “he was not crazy. Well, he was, if you ask me…but not a cold-blooded murderer.”
There was a stillness in the air as Loki ruminated on the past, interrupted occasionally by the scraping of the swing on the metal bar.
“Baldur was a good man,” Loki resumed. His eyes were lost somewhere in the distance. “He was the god of war. People loved him. … When he was born - and I have heard this, of course - mother was warned that he would die in a way that nobody would anticipate. So, she asked everything - living and non-living - in fact, pleaded with them not to harm her beloved son. They all agreed. All except the mistletoe. Mother assumed that it was so harmless that she need not persuade it for an oath.”
(Y/N) was listening to him with wide eyes and parted lips.
“So, a feast was arranged where Baldur was showing off his immortality. Everyone was throwing things of different kinds at him - sticks and swords - and everything simply bounced off him.”
Loki’s lips opened but words refused to come out of him.
“I-I… I had to do something different, of course. The god of mischief!” There was a bitterness in the way he described himself. “So, I brought in a branch of mistletoe. A twig, if you may call it. Hodr wanted to throw something at Baldur. He was blind, this fellow. So, I offered him my mistletoe. It was so fragile; what harm could it cause! I directed Hodr so that he would aim at Baldur’s arm. But it hit him in his chest. … And it…it went right through him. He-he died. Right there. Just…”
His voice had started breaking. (Y/N) wanted nothing but to hold him in her arms and soothe all his pain away. But she held herself for she knew that Loki was not very fond of hugs.
“Everyone simply assumed that I was jealous of him because of all the attention that he was getting! They accused me, imprisoned me, made me suffer a punishment that was worse than Hel!”
That was it. (Y/N) could not resist further. So, she took his hands and cocooned them in hers.
“Believe me, (Y/N), it was only a prank. Nothing more! I never wanted to kill him. Never!”
“I know, Loki, I know. I believe you.” Her arms wrapped around him as she brought his head to rest on her shoulder.
The god wept on her shoulder. All the unshed pain that he had been carrying with him for all those years finally found their way out. His arms looped around her of their own accord as she ran a soothing hand over his back and whispered comforting words in his ears.
It took him a few minutes to calm down. Or maybe more. When he did, he realised how close he was to her…how his arms held her snug to his chest…how his lips were pressed to her scarf…how his lungs yearned for her smell with each breath…and how this scent soothed his entire being.
His initial thought was to jump away, for he believed that it must have been embarrassing for her. It had to be awkward, hadn’t it? But then, a moment later, he allowed himself to realise how good it actually felt. And she was in no hurry to let go of him either. Oddly though, it felt right. A warmth spread through him, melting the chills of the night air and of the past that he had been burdening himself with.
So, they remained in each other’s arms for a while more until their seats on the swing started becoming uncomfortable. With hesitant hearts and shy eyes, they slowly untangled themselves.
(Y/N) reached out to wipe his eyes. Loki looked so vulnerable that she wanted to take care of him despite what anybody including the trickster himself might think. But her fear whispered that she might scare him away. So, she ended up cradling his face with one hand.
Loki himself was caught in a strange trance. It was like no magic that he had ever encountered before. The greatest sorcerer in the Nine Realms was unable to take his eyes off the mortal before her.
Whether it was the grief or the weather or simply his long-suppressed feelings for her or all of these, he was not sure of. All he felt was that her touch warmed him to the deepest corner of his being. All he was aware of was that they were both leaning towards the other. All he knew was that this moment was inevitable, this kiss was inevitable. That they must act on it before the moment was gone.
But they took too long.
The light creak of the front door of the house, and the sharp call of a woman’s voice startled them. When they had been missing from the party for quite some time, the hostess herself came out looking for them. Of course, she had assumed that (Y/N) had ditched the party, not that she minded. Her only concern for the night was the charming date that her cousin had brought along.
Imagine her satisfaction when she understood what she had interrupted upon! While (Y/N) jumped off the swing, Loki took a second to dry his face and present a smiling facade before the woman.
“I thought you guys had left!” Laura exclaimed with a faux worry.
“No,” (Y/N) replied, “we were enjoying some nice time. But that’s in the past now., thanks to you,” she murmured the last few words.
“Let’s go inside,” the hostess suggested, “you will freeze out here!”
“We were actually thinking of leaving,” (Y/N) replied. She knew better than to push Loki back into that crowd after such a vulnerable moment.
“What? No! You must stay!” The other woman insisted. “And I need to know more about this handsome stranger you have brought!”
Her sly smile made (Y/N) want to kick her in the crotch. She opened her mouth to protest. But Loki cut her off. He agreed to go inside, to put up that mask again. And before (Y/N) could say anything more, Loki had wrapped a comfortable arm around her waist and was already tugging her inside.
This time Loki did not allow himself to be hijacked by Laura. He kept himself busy with the other guests while secretly enjoying the indignation that he caused her. Amidst all the smart words and fake smiles, his eyes kept floating towards his teammate - the teammate with whom he had just shared one of the biggest sorrows and shames of his life, the teammate with whom he had just shared a special moment. And who knew what more that moment could have morphed into had it not been trampled upon.
(Y/N) was constantly being swept away by one relative or another. But her mind was still seated on that porch swing, basking in Loki’s warmth, burning in the touch of his breath on her lips, anticipating something that was probably never possible. And maybe that’s why God sent her cousin outside at that precise moment. Because that kiss was never possible.
An unhappiness veiled her countenance, making many people ask if she was feeling unwell. Taking advantage of their concern, she excused herself, and isolated herself in a far corner of the large living room.
This did not escape Loki’s notice. His eyes trailed her movements, her expressions and her gradual change of demeanour. All after the incident outside.
As his focus shifted from the guests to her entirely, a string of words drifted into his ears - incomprehensible at first but then they gradually started taking proper shapes. And then he realised it. They did not reach his ears, they floated into his mind! And the voice was a very familiar one. (Y/N)’s!
“She must have zoned out.”
He had promised never to dive into her mind unless she asked him to. But this was different. Her thoughts came to him; he had nothing to do with it, and so, he wasn’t breaking any promise!
Loki listened to her intently. He listened to her confusions, her sorrows, her lack of faith in herself, her acceptance of defeat, her curses as she reproached herself for not being able to confess her immense love for him…
“Wait, what?”
Loki was dumbfounded. There was no way he could have heard wrong but how could that be true anyway? Or could it be? He couldn’t believe his own mind for the first time!
There was perhaps a way to know.
Excusing himself, he approached (Y/N) with a mischief in mind.
“Should we head home?” He placed a soothing hand on her shoulder.
(Y/N) was startled. But the sight of the man rolled a wave of happiness within her.
“No, I’m fine,” she smiled. “I just…I needed a break from all the talking!”
Loki nodded. Lost in her thoughts, she did not notice the trickster subtly - and gracefully - stir the wind with his slender fingers.
“That is one odd place to hang those twigs!” He suddenly remarked with amusement coating his words.
(Y/N) followed the direction of his eyes to find a mistletoe hanging above their heads. Immediately, a panic arose in her. She did not want Loki to go through all that pain again.
“Shit! I…I didn’t see it hanging there. I… Let’s sit somewhere else. You don’t need to see this.”
“Hey,” he held her arm as she sprang to her feet, and gently pushed her back on the chair. “It is alright. Believe me. It is…I am actually feeling better after letting everything out before you… Thank you!”
The gratefulness and adoration in his eyes were obvious. It touched her very soul. Cradling his hand in hers, she whispered, ”You deserve nothing but love. All of it!”
“Which reminds me…” Loki spoke, “are you not supposed to kiss when underneath this treacherous bunch of wild leaves?”
(Y/N)’s face first turned pale and then crimson. There was no way Loki could have known that! Or maybe she had left him in unknown waters for too long.
Prior to the party, the Asgardian obviously knew nothing about any modern traditions regarding the mistletoe. But his companion was right; he had spent enough hours with Laura and other giggling ladies to know a mistletoe’s purpose on Midgard.
Before (Y/N) could protest, someone answered Loki’s question, “Of course, you should kiss! (Y/N), what are you waiting for?” That was her childhood friend.
He was loud enough to draw the attention of others, many of whom were now urging them to seal the deal. At the other end of the room, Laura was fuming, mentally cursing the decorator who had put the mistletoe up there.
“This is not a movie, guys!” (Y/N) stood up straight and shouted. “C’mon! Stop behaving like kids!”
“Are you two even for real?” One of the hostess’s friends shouted back. “How can you not kiss a boyfriend who’s this hot!”
“We do not like PDA, that is all it is,” (Y/N) reasoned.
Loki gently took her fingers in his. It was his tender touch that grounded her anxious emotions. “I would not mind it if it is what it takes to convince your folks,” he rasped in a voice so low that one she could hear him.
How could she say no to those green orbs staring right into her soul! But…it would be wrong to coax him into something which he did not want.
If only she knew!
She never realised when Loki had leaned in until she found it hard to focus on anywhere but his lips. “It’s okay,” she whispered to him. “You don’t need to do this. You could always refus-”
The god did not allow her to finish that line. He had already pressed his lips to hers. A round of cheers and applause rang through the room. But everything was muffled against their ears. The sounds felt like floating from afar. Loki kissed her gently, sweetly, taking his time to show her what he really felt for her. Trying to understand what she felt for him in return.
Although she was stunned initially, Loki’s warmth seeping in through her made her relax. She started mimicking his actions. She allowed her feelings to flow through them. Loki’s arm around her waist and his hand behind her head anchored her to the ground, refraining her body from collapsing under the overwhelming love that Loki was bestowing on her.
But they had to breathe. And it was in their moment of separation that reality sweeped down upon her.
Loki was glowing! But she did not notice that. She was too busy drowning in her insecurities to understand the emotions working behind Loki’s recent actions. She was scared that their relationship would never be the same again, and not in a positive way. She was afraid that they would forever be fumbling around one another because they had crossed the boundaries of friendship, regardless of the fact that she wanted exactly that.
Her eyes apologised to him but he was ecstatic. He could not see past the love that she reciprocated on his lips. But when he finally saw the frown shadowing her features, he placed a caring hand over her cheek.
“What is it, love?”
“I’m so sorry, Loki! I-I know this is awkward for you! I…I’m so sorry! I don’t want to lose you. I-I mean, you-your friendship. This…Loki, promise me you won’t be angry!”
The god stared at her dumbfounded. When he finally did manage to form a coherent sentence again, he commanded her but softly, “Come with me.”
Unwilling to make a scene out of the confusion, he managed to smoothly pull her aside, away from prying eyes and curious ears, without raising any suspicion.
Once they reached a safe corner, he simply gasped, “Since when did you become so dumb?”
Too embarrassed to reveal her watery eyes but too curious to know the meaning behind his accusation, she took only a fleeting glance at him. Focusing hard on the buttons of his shirt, she asked timidly, “What do you mean?”
Loki huffed. He could not understand how someone as smart as her could turn out to be so witless when it came to matters of the heart.
“Do you not understand?” he asked her, slightly annoyed.
“Okay, I have a confession to make. I wanted to kiss you. Did you not feel it? Did you not realise that… Norns! There was no mistletoe up there initially!” Observing her blank countenance, he continued, “It was me- I…” He threw his arms up in the air. “(Y/N)! I put the mistletoe there above us! For us!...For you, you fool!!”
Slowly the gears in her mind started ticking into place. Loki could almost hear them as he watched her expressions morph from confusion to realisation to astonishment to ecstasy.
He smiled. In a voice as soft and gentle as freshly fallen snow, he asked her, “Do you understand now?”
Still in a state of shock, the poor girl stumbled through her words, “Me? But…why? You- Since when?”
A few minutes earlier, when she had voiced her disappointment and uncertainty about the incident with the mistletoe, Loki’s confident demeanour had slipped off a bit. Although he was sure of what he had heard in her thoughts, her weary state had made him wonder if those thoughts were but only smoke trails of a passing moment.
But now, with regained confidence, he stepped forward and took her hands in his, cocooning them in his large ones.
A soft chuckle left his parted lips. “‘Why’ - I do not have the answer to that, believe me. ‘Since when’ - well, I do not really know but I think it might have been somewhere between our annoyingly long talks, our late night affairs of tea, our banters, our reading sessions…maybe somewhere amidst the laughs and the pains that we shared…mingled with the love and care that you have always showered on me, unconditionally… I do not know, (Y/N)... All I know is that…I…” He took a deep breath, “I love you. Yes. And that is why I put the mistletoe up there. I did not know how else to convey my feelings to you. I had thought that you would understand when… I knew I would fumble with words but… Please tell me you are not upset about this entire situation!”
The confession hit her like a freight train. It took her some time to gather herself back together. All this while she had been watching Loki with eyes that radiated nothing but pure adoration. With a small smile on her mouth, she absorbed every single syllable, every single emotion that Loki pronounced.
“Mr. Silvertoungue fumbling?” She let out a breathy laugh which caused a tint of pink to bloom on the trickster’s ears and cheeks.
“No,” she continued, “I’m not upset… You did the right thing…putting that mistletoe up there. I’m absolutely confident that I could have never gathered the courage to tell you how I feel.”
A small chuckle of relief left Loki.
“But that was a lot of talk for a confession. Do you realise that?” She asked with a teasing smile.
The God of Mischief laughed and scratched the side of his nose. “I have been told more than once, yes.”
“But I loved it all,” she took a step closer to him.
“I am glad tha-” Before he could finish his line, (Y/N) had placed her hand over his mouth, taking him by surprise.
“Shh! Do you think,” she removed her hand and resumed with a sigh, “you can conjure that little piece of mischief back…above us? Now?”
A wicked grin spread on Loki’s lips. “Any time! As many times as you want, darling.”
With a small gesture of his slender fingers, a mistletoe appeared above them once again. This time (Y/N) wasted no time in pulling Loki down by the collar of his shirt and placing a promising kiss on his eager lips.
They felt the same fire as the previous time but better. This time neither was in a rush to douse the flames but ready to surrender to them, to become one with the raging fire and burn bright until there was nothing left but the glowing love and passion that they felt for each other.
But even in the middle of a searing moment like this, (Y/N)’s mind couldn’t help but wander off to other thoughts. Barely separating herself from Loki, she tried to ask him but the Asgardian wasn’t willing to let her go, “Wait, how were you…mmh…so confident about…mmh…wait! About how I felt for you?”
“Later”, was the only response that Loki was able to manage as he pulled her closer and chased her kiss-swollen lips with his hungry ones.
She tried hard to pry herself or at least her mouth away from the impatient man but kept failing until she squeezed his jaw firmly in her grip. It wasn’t like the god could be stopped by this little human but he respected her wish and sort of enjoyed it when she bossed around.
“How?” She raised a brow while demanding her answer.
“I hurd yur thughts,” Loki managed to utter through squeezed cheeks and puckered lips.
“You heard my thoughts? You read my mind?!” She released his face only to hit his arm. “How dare you?”
“Love, I did not mean to! But you were sitting there all by yourself, looking so sad, and I was completely focused on you, trying to understand what was hurting you, and they just floated towards me - your thoughts! They were so loud that I did not even have to try! Forgive me for breaching your privacy. But believe me, darling, I never meant to!”
Here was Loki trying to convince her of his unadulterated intentions, but she had lost him the moment he called her ‘love’. Everything else was a blur, a beautiful but muted music floating through the air from a distance, spreading like mist, on a quiet winter night.
“That’s alright,” she smiled giddily. “I’m glad you read my mind.”
But Loki needed further assurance. “You are not angry?”
“Nope! Not at all.”
Upon hearing her confirmation, he let out a long breath.
“Now,” she toyed with the sleeve of his shirt, “where were we?”
A small laugh, mingled with both relief and joy, escaped the trickster. “In the middle of the first of a zillion kisses, I believe?”
“Hmm,” with the most ecstatic grin possible, she balanced herself on Loki’s strong frame and stood on her tiptoes to finish what a mischievous mistletoe had started.

My raven
Loki x fem!reader (OC)
This story is part of the Winter Warmers collection.
It is winter at the Avengers compount, which mean a lot of preperation. Will you win over a certain god to love, or at least not mind, christmas?
Warnings: Tiny bit of anxiousness and jealousy. Alcohol consumption. Overall just fluffy wholesome goodness.
Word count: ~3.500
Thank you @huntress-artemiss for helping me with this! 💙
Tumblr media
It is Christmas, which means everybody was busy decorating every last nook and cranny of the compound.
You have long grown tired of all the Caucasian firs you've had to make. Being a woodland fairy in the avengers compound this time of year had its downsides it seems. Finally done, you went to help the others with the food and fool around a bit.
Its going to be a long day, but you love it. Everybody helps, everybody has fun and the food is amazing. When all the turkeys are finally roasting in the oven, the side dishes are simmering and the dessert is resting in the fridge, you go to the communal room with Wanda and Thor.
After all that hard work, a classic Christmas movie is needed. Debating which film to play, the sofas get fuller and fuller. Even Pepper, Tony and Morgan joined in, which means it has to be fit for a 6 year old.
The coffee table is filled with adorable cookies the little Stark has decorated. Alcohol free egg nog and apple cider standing alongside pies and crumbles. It is a feast for any sweet tooth, which reminds you, where the hell is Loki?
"Thor, where's your brother?", you ask the god sitting on the other end.
"My best guess is his quarters, he is not one to enjoy socializing to this extent, as you probably know by now.", he shakes his head sadly.
"We'll see about that.", you say and dash through the hallways.
At his door you knock, not getting an answer, "Loki, come on, join us in the living room! I promise it will be fun." You know him well enough to know, he is sitting at his desk, trying to ignore you. He's a stubborn god, but you are a stubborn fairy with good intentions.
"Come on, we are watching a movie together, its going to be fun!", you talk to the door of which you know every knothole by now. His hard shell might have ceased, but his bullheadedness had not. You always have to force him out of his room, only for him to enjoy whatever activity it was you forced him to.
"There are snacks. Cookies, Apple crumb-", you stop as the door gets ripped open. "Lets go.", he nods.
Unbelievable.
You understand that there is no candy on Asgard and that its only natural for him to get excited for it. But Thor and him go feral over sweets, nobody ever dared to but you think if somebody took away their sugar, they would grow a little... murderous.
"Better hurry, Thor is already there.", you tell him and start to quick walk.
"Why did you not start with that! Move it!", he commands, beginning to jog.
When everybody was seated and had their mountain of food on their plate, you finally decided on a movie. The Grinch.
Its a classic, plus Morgan and the Asgardians don't know it yet, it had to be done. It did not fail to make each and everyone laugh, conveniently explaining some of the Christmas traditions along the way. It is Loki's first Christmas, which is why he has been pestering you with questions, even if the result was him ridiculing earths beloved Christmas traditions. You love to explain it to him, but not at 6 in the morning. Any time spent with him is a blessing to your heart, but to talk to somebody that finds this whole holiday stupid, at 6am and getting asked questions about said holiday... yea, not your favorite activity.
Despite his resemblance to the Grinch, demeanor wise, you have been crushing over him since you laid eyes on him. He is just too charming and the first person to withstand your wit. Not to mention he looks exactly like you always envisioned your one true love to look like, your mother did always promise you, it was the same for her. Apparently it is a common thing amongst your kind.
"Is it strange that I feel a sort of sympathy for that fictional being?", he whispers at the flashback scene from the Grinch's childhood. Loki insisted to sit between Thor and you.
"Do you feel sympathy for characters in books?", you ask back. He nods solemnly.
"There you have your answer. Everybody feels for him. Its how it was intended, everybody loves an outlaw.", you smile at him, your words carrying a double meaning. He heard it too but thought it sure must be a misunderstanding.
"Daddy why were they so mean to him?", Morgan asks Tony.
"People aren't always nice sweetie.", Tony answers her with a sad smile. Loki, too, smiles sadly at their chat, so you lay a hand on his arm, giving it a squeeze.
The movie get together was spent laughing at the movie and eating as much food you could before getting sick. When it was over, most of the others went back to cooking and decorating.
"I wanna go outside!", Morgan whines, tugging at Peppers sleeve.
"Ask somebody else. I have to help with the food and daddy needs to help put up the lights.", she tells her, a gentle hand stroking her daughters hair.
"Uncle Steeeeve, do you want to go outside with meee?", she storms towards the captain, who is holding a tray full of salads and side dishes.
"Oh I'm sorry but I am busy. Why don't you ask aunt Fee or Wan?", he nods toward you two.
"Yea, come on, we wanted to go out anyway.", Wanda holds out her hand. You did not, you two had planned to lounge on the sofa, but you cant deny Morgan. She runs towards you, happy giggles leaving her.
"Where are your winter clothes?", you ask her.
"Oh. Home.", she sinks her head sadly.
"Allow me.", Loki stands up and with a click of his wrist, the three of you wear thick winter coats, beanies and gloves. Loki remains in his sweater.
"Thank you. Looks like we can go outside now.", you smile at Morgan who nods enthusiastically.
Outside, Morgan got her sledge and Loki conjured Wanda and you one too. Morgan squeals with happiness while she goes down the steep snow covered hill, Wanda standing at the bottom to catch her. Then, Wan and you decided to race, which ended in a crash.
You lost control because of a stone, resulting in you, flying through the air. Trying to regain control, you thrashed around, losing a boot in the process. Said boot hit Wanda in the head, making her crash into a mountain of snow at the side. Nobody was hurt but Loki is laughing at you, already doubled over with a hand clutching his stomach, "You really knocked her and yourself out of the race!", he huffs between fits of laughter.
Wanda and you look at each other, communicating silently, even Morgan understood the instructions. Secretly, the three of you made an artillery of snow balls, a small mount of spheres at your feet.
"Now!", you shout.
The fire opens, Loki getting hit in the face repeatedly until he puts his wall of defense up, snowballs bouncing off the green barrier.
"Hey! Using magic isn't fair!", Morgan pouts. Loki smirks devilishly at her and lowers his defense, snowballs flying towards you now.
"Oh fudge-", you say, realizing your out of ammo, unable to retaliate.
"Son of a gun!", Wanda grunts, a snowball hitting the back of her head.
"We yield!", you shout, Morgan hiding behind a tree and Wanda being hit again and again. The attack stops and you hear him laugh sinister, "Smart choice.".
"What is the child doing now?", Loki interrupts your chatter, looking behind Wanda.
You turn around, "Oh, she is making a snowman.".
"A what?", Loki tilts his head, utterly confused.
"A snowman. You make two or three big balls of snow, stack them and create your snowman.", you smile at him.
"Usually has a carrot as nose and sticks as arms.", Wanda adds.
"How utterly stupid.", Loki rolls his eyes.
You pose in mock offense, "How very dare you? It is a beloved tradition on this planet. Come on Wanda, lets make an army!".
"I'll get some carrots!", Wanda runs inside.
She returned shortly after, carrots in one hand and various items in the other. Morgan happily indulged in the use of Wanda's collected items, her snowwoman, as she insisted, now wearing purple gloves on her stick arms and having small red buttons aligned in a smile. The two of you just made your first one and he is beautiful, you named him Edward.
"What is all the fuss about? These are horribly ugly creations. I don't see why you mortals obsess over them so much.", he knits his brows, circling the snowman Wanda and you built.
"Hey! That is our son, apologize to him right now!", Wanda pouts in mock offense.
"He is our pride and joy. Look as him! He's so cute!", you stride towards the snowman and straighten the multi color striped scarf you put around him.
"Cute? It has a crooked carrot as nose and pebbles as eyes, I fail to see what it is that is so cute about that.", he looks it up and down as if it is mocking him.
"You wouldn't know beauty if it was hitting you in the face!", Wanda tells him outraged.
'Oh but I do', he thinks to himself, his eyes lingering on you for a second, with you blithely unaware.
☃️
An army of snowmen and women later, you three girls eye up your work proudly, Loki shaking his head in disbelief.
"I'm cold.", Morgan whimpers.
"Lets get you inside.", you lead her towards the door, the others following.
An hour later, dusk crept over the snow covered park of the compound, a sign its time to eat. All of you sat together at the long table, joining today was only a suggestion for the teammates not living here, but almost everybody came along. It was a pleasant surprise.
The dinner was nice, friendly chatter flowing alongside festive beverages. Morgan and the kids of shield agents, who were welcome to join too, were done eating pretty quickly, running around playing around the compound when boredom hit them. The Christmas dinner went on for hours, some guests stuffing themselves fuller than the turkeys already devoured. When it came to a final stop, the compound was calmer again, people leaving to make it home before midnight and the kids sound asleep on the sofas, all tired out. Anybody conscious and still able to move helped clean up.
The get together shifted to the living room, in which the biggest fir you've ever made stands proudly at over 15 feet, almost reaching the ceiling. People are dancing, others talking and a few indulged into some drinking at Tony's 'mini' bar. Its not mini, its the size of a normal bar you'd see inside a club, a wide variety of booze displayed on the shelves.
And as everybody else was having fun, your mind races with worry. Your nerves stretched like a wire rope about Loki's gift, anxious you might have overstepped with how personal it is.
Luckily Steve pulled you out of your thoughts, asking you to dance with him. His baby blues outed him about being in deep thought as well. You accepted the unexpected request of his, "I know that look, you want to ask me something, don't you?"
He set a hand to your waist, making you lay a hand an his upper arm. Letting out a deep sigh he nodded, "Yea, I do. I need your help- or more like your advice.".
You tilt your head at him, "Sure, go on.".
☃️
Loki has had a secret crush on you for a few moths now but is too stubborn to admit it, mostly to himself. He tells himself it is just confusion, that he has not had a partner in too long and that he cant be drawn to a mere mortal fairy. He notices himself growing progressively jealous when you are around the other teammates though. Particularly towards captain Rogers, who asked you to dance, taking you away from the spot on the sofa next to him. The insufferable patriot has a hand on your waist, you giggling uncontrollably.
It becomes increasingly obvious that it is not confusion that has him drawn to you, it is your persona. How you always have a witty comeback to whatever comment he made. How you give him suggestion regarding books from Midgard; none of which he disliked, you always give him the very best suggestions. One of your recommendations became his new favorite actually. The way you teach him about this planets culture, like Christmas, desperately trying to make him feel at home. Like he belongs. Even when all he does is complain and mock your planets entire existence.
The way your laugh fills the room, a sweet symphony, making his heart swell. The only thing dampening the mood is when it is not him that makes you sing your song, but another man, like now. Which drew him to another realization.
One thing he does like about Christmas so far: mulled wine. He downed about 6 mugs of it already, feeling the alcoholic beverage warm him up from the inside out. A strange thing for the frost giant to feel.
30 minutes and another 5 mulled wines later, you sit down on the sofa next to him.
Strangely enough, he feels a little tipsy, never had that happened from Midgardian beverages, up to now.
"Is it growing on you?", you ask Loki, who's got a bit of color to his cheek. No wonder, you saw how he kept downing that mulled wine. It is a secret, but Thor put in a little Asgardian mead, not a lot, but enough for normal humans to get drunk after 3 to 5 mugs of the drink.
"This mulled wine is rather nice, my favorite thing about this whole holiday so far.", he enthuses.
"I'm glad to hear that you at least enjoy something. There are still a few things you have yet to experience, maybe you will like one of them too.", you smile softly.
"What else is there to experience, I was planning on retreating to my chambers soon."
You look at him a little hurt. You really though he would just enjoy himself this time and not count the minutes until he can leave. But apparently you thought wrong.
"Oh come on! There is one thing you will love, I bet you will! Just another hour, you can leave after midnight.", you plea. You really tried your best with your gift and you'd hate if he left before receiving it.
"Fee, I'm just really tired.", he sighs.
You put on your puppy dog eyes, "Pleeaaase! I have a surprise for you, you cant leave now! Just one more hour!".
He sinks his head back into the sofa, closing his eyes with a deep exhale, "Fine. But I will leave at midnight!".
You squeal with happiness and hurriedly nod, "Yes, you wont regret it, I promise!". He chuckles at your exuberance and makes himself comfortable again. A little later, Tony announced that it is time for gift giving.
"What?! Nobody told me about this, I don't have anything to give!", Loki frowns.
You pat his shoulder, "Its alright, nobody except me thought you would even be here. That is enough of a gift.".
Everybody went back to their rooms to retrieve their presents. As everybody came back, the room erupted in chatter and sounds of joy. You got a lot of great gifts and yours were receiving as much joy.
Then it was time to hand Loki his gift. You turned to him and hand him the small, beautifully wrapped, box with a smile.
Growing more and more anxious about his reaction as he opens it. Will he like it? Thor told you he would love it, but does he know his brother well enough? Oh god, what if he hates it?
"Ophelia, this is beautiful.", he gasps, extracting you from your internal conflict.
Your heart leaps of joy, he likes it. You look at him and see him examine the orb, small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. You made it yourself, it is golden with a gorgeous labradorite which you put all your love and energy into. That stone just reminded you of Loki, chipped and scarred, but unbelievably beautiful. He has not yet realized it is far better than that though.
Tumblr media
Labradorite; source google images
"Look at its side, see that little latch? Open it.", you guide him to find the hidden latch. He opens it and you see tears well up in his eyes.
The top of it is covered in green gem stones, the main part however is the picture of Frigga on the bottom of it. The words 'I love you my little raven' engraved on the glass dome covering her picture. You went to Thor for advice and he told you that was what Frigga called Loki as a child. He reminded her of a raven, curious, mischievous, playful and very intelligent. His raven black hair another obvious afflatus.
You know how much he loves her and how much his last words he ever spoke to her haunt him. How it breaks his heart he could not attend her funeral.
"I don't know what to say. Nobody has ever given me anything this beautiful. This thoughtful.", his voice is shaking, a tear going astray.
"I'm glad you like it, Thor helped me with the quote. Merry Christmas Loki.", you lean forward and wipe his cheek. He pulls you into a sudden hug which you happily return.
"Merry Christmas Ophelia. You will get the best present of your life next Christmas, I promise it.", he mumbles in the crook of your neck.
The two of you part and dumbly smile at each other; butterflies throwing their own celebration in your stomach. The way his eyes sparkle ever since he got your gift fills you with pride.
And the way his cheeks still hold a slight pink hue to them makes you want to kiss him. Oh what are you saying, you always want to kiss him. But you don't want to ruin the friendship which took such a long time to built.
Distracting yourself, you lay a hand over his, covering the orb. Using your abilities, you shrink the orb and make a matching golden chain. "So you can have it with you at all times.", you take your hand off and he surveys your work.
"Thank you darling.", he smiles and pulls the wide chain over his head. Your heart skips a beat at the pet name, you love when he calls you darling.
His necklace suits him well, the orb hanging just above his sternum.
You two jolt at the sudden increase of volume in the room, looking around for the reason. You spot it first, Steve pulled out the mistletoe over Nat and his head, like you suggested. You even grew it for him.
He asked you what to do, so you gave him a lot of joke ideas but a few genuine ones too. He picked the obvious classic; holding a mistletoe over your crush and yourself. "Mission successful.", you giggle as they kiss, the room erupting into cheers and whistles.
"Finally!" being thrown at them by the OG 5, Clint excluded since he is home with his family.
"What is happening?", Loki asks totally confused by this strange behavior and your words.
"Its a mistletoe. It is an old tradition. You must kiss if you stand under it. I gave Steve the tip.", you explain to him.
His lips curl up, "I see. So that is what you two were talking about.".
He was watching you two? You blush and clear your throat, "Yes. He asked me how to finally kiss Natasha. I made the mistletoe for him since we both liked that idea the best.". He nods, "I see.".
Shortly after, he excused himself for the bathroom, so you talked to some of the others.
Loki joined you and the others, leaning at your arm, so you looked at him questioning. Your eyes meet his expecting gaze, lips smiling at you warmly.
"Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!", chant the others suddenly.
Which is why you realize, he is holding the mistletoe over you two. Your heart races, a blush creeping up your neck. He wants to kiss you too, oh my god. You turn slightly and stand on your tippy toes, placing a hand on his shoulder. You gently place your lips on his, eyes fluttering closed. He kisses you back, a hand cupping your cheek, pulling you closer. His lips are so soft and he tastes divine. He tastes even better than you expected, sweet and like mulled wine. Everything gets warm and fuzzy, there is only him and you, everything else losing its importance. Even oxygen. Your hand slides to cup the back of his head, fingers meeting his soft curls.
"Ok. That's enough now, there are kids present!", Tony interrupts. You two giggle in the kiss and break apart, hot breaths fanning your cheek.
Smiling dumbly at him, you speak up, "You stayed past midnight.".
"I did. Only for you my love."
With that, you found a pet name you love even more and the god you love to call you by it.
☃️
Fun fact;
Fee is the nickname for Ophelia, Fee means fairy in german, which is why i choose that nickname. Fe means fairy in norwegian as well, so, Loki loves that nickname. It just makes sense and is cute.

I can't believe I just saw a gorgeous, witty adaptation of The Star Beast with a resolution to the story arc of my 18 year old self's Doctor Who, all with trans allegory and representation at its core. How is it the biggest thing in the world and yet feels like it's so perfectly tailored to me?
The Meep and Wrarth Warriors felt like they stepped right off the page, and just as the original TSB broke new ground for Doctor Who with the Doctor's first black companion years before telly caught up, now we've got Rose forging a new future and truly superseding the binary. I can't believe the enby jokes we made about the binary-binary-binary line actually wound up happening and solving the metacrisis.
I've really enjoyed large chunks of the last few eras, but this felt as exciting as seeing the show come back in 2005 was, and I don't think it's just the power of nostalgia, seeing old comics and Tennant and Tate back. Power Of The Doctor had kisses to the past too with one of my fave classic companions, but this went beyond that, that sense that the nostalgic elements are just the vehicle, we're headed towards something much bolder and bigger.
Oh, and speaking of bolder and bigger, that opening, that spaceship, that gorgeously realised Meep, that TARDIS interior? (I think it needs some lived in qualities like bookshelves and such, I'll always adore 8's and 12's interiors for that quality, but hey, this is freshly made, there's time for that!). But it's taking that central idea and giving it the budget and presentation it deserves. It feels like we've taken another huge leap forward. Doctor Who's the biggest thing in the world again, as it should be.
What's wonderful as well is that with the massive platform that Disney and such provide, Russell chose to make it 100% clear that there right at the center of it is a genderfluid hero, beloved characters who'll stand up for their trans family members and fight petty bigots, new and wonderful disabled characters at the heart of UNIT, and all integral to the story. No little one off lines that are nice but can be cut out depending on region (hi Loki, how ya doing?) the plot simply doesn't work and you cannot do this episode without Rose, without her identity being celebrated, as it should be.
In summary... Doctor Who's pretty frigging great, isn't it?

❦ ➷ get to know your fellow fanfic writers better ༊ ✧.*
I was tagged by @bebx and @loki-is-my-kink-awakening for this “get to know the writer” tag! Thank you! 😊
when did you post your first ever fanfic?
I believe in 2012-2013? I was around 13-14 years old, so around then anyway (my first one doesn’t exist online anymore as far as I know so I can’t double check.) it was the usual middle school fandom girl era lol. First for my current account was February of 2022!
first character you wrote for:
It would have been Rin Matsuoka from Free! Iwatobi Swim Club! Specifically him and Nitori, they were one of my fave ships in that series!
main character(s) you’re currently writing for:
Basically anyone from the Loki series but especially Loki and Mobius and Sylvie, not necessarily in that order or all together but some combo of them 💚
character(s) you haven’t written about before but plan on writing about soon:
I haven’t written for OFMD but would really like to! I’ve had a lot of feels s2, no solid ideas yet but maybe something will spark some inspiration! Also Red White and Royal Blue! I haven’t gotten a chance to read the book yet but I watched the movie and got hooked and love those boys too 💕 so maybe one or both of them if the Loki series even temporarily gets it’s hooks out of me (with s2 though I’ve been as bad if not worse than before with my obsession so who knows lol)
And for within marvel the ship that got me into fanfic and got me to make this current ao3 account was Stucky so even though I only read for them and never wrote, they always have a place in my heart!
fandom(s) you’re currently writing for:
Also just Loki atm! But who knows for the future.
platonic pairing(s) you currently write for:
Mobius and any of the void Lokis as the best found family ever (Mobius and kid, Mobius and classic, Mobius and all of them my beloveds)
I haven’t written it recently but also wrote B-15 and Sylvie in a non romantic context and even though I think they’re also cute romantically I love them as a platonic pair and want to do more with them too! Similarly Sylvie and C-20, I wish they could have been friends if things had gone a bit differently 🥺
romantic pairing(s) you currently write for:
Lokius and Sylkius! Haven’t written any pure Sylki but who knows (I just like Mobius too much to not include him atm)
your top 3 tags on AO3 (if you post your works on AO3):
Hurt/comfort, fluff, and hugs 😂 sounds about right to me! I like some pain and crying and working through stuff but need the hugs and comfort alongside it/after it for sure.
your current platform where you post your works
AO3 is the same as my name here!
I try to post my fics links on tumblr too but don’t always remember so ao3 is always best bet if you want to read my stuff!! 😍
snippet of the wip you’re currently working on:
Right now I’m most heavily focused on a character study type fic cataloging different moments with Sylvie adapting to her McDonald’s life but specifically looking at her relationship with Jack, I think she would have such a great big sister vibe and they could learn a lot from each other 🥹
“Good job today, Sylvie,” Jack says, his lopsided smile clear even before Sylvie glances his way. He’s always got compliments and kindness at the ready, and he’s young and gentle enough that they’re always believable.
“Thanks, Jack,” she feels a smile curl onto her face. She still, even after knowing Loki and Mobius and B-15, feels like she doesn’t know how to have friends or family or any genuine connections at all. But Jack is the first in a long time to feel so real to her, to feel like a relationship she can stick with, with these new more permanent circumstances and her distance from the trauma of the TVA. She doesn’t remember what it’s like to be a sister, her memories of Thor long gone beyond the occasional glimmers in her dreams, let alone what being the older sister would be like, but this is what she suspects it is. A fierce protectiveness and gentle care, the ignoring of any silly flaws or naïveté because you just care about the person. That’s what she has for Jack, ever since he took her under his wing as an employee, she’s done the same for him as just a person.
“Mind if I stay here for a bit? My ma is going to be a few more minutes.”
Sylvie just smiles softly and scoots over on the wide hood of her truck, gesturing to the empty spot.
Jack nods rather sagely as he awkwardly hoists himself on to the hood of the truck, pushing himself up with his arms and then practically throwing himself on to it.
He pants softly as he adjusts to lay on his back a foot or two away from Sylvie, giving her another boyish grin. “Hey.”
“Very smooth, Jack,” Sylvie snorts.
“Your truck is huge! I’ve ridden in trucks before but yours is massive! I’m not sure how you even get up here, you’re shorter than me!” He laughs.
“My little secret, I guess,” Sylvie shrugs with a slight smile, returning her gaze to the inky sky, dotted with a trillion stars.
I’m excited to keep writing this, I’ve got some Lokius ideas in the works too but this one has been my focus for a few days!!
I’d love to see anyone do this that is interested but I’ll tag my usual group!!
@insert-witty-user-name-here @starport-seven-five @lgwilt @mirilyawrites @cha-melodius @chaos-monkeyy @waterhorseyblues-ao3 @blackbirdofasgard @dreamycloud @queen-of-meows

Alligator Loki #1 Is Delightful
Spoilers, obviously.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm OBSESSED with this play on words. Also, cue me writing a 5000+ word essay (not really) on the symbolism of Loki and butterflies. Alligator Loki accidentally stumbles into the climax of Encanto. 'Ay, mariposas, don't you hold on too tight--' [CHOMP] Can one of the issues of Alligator Loki be just a play on those trailers in the early 2000s where Stitch trespassed on a bunch of classic Disney movies, only instead of Stitch it's Alligator Loki?
Tumblr media
2. This is not fair. He's in baby gator jail for a reason. But ugh I'm a sucker for a crying Loki too. And you know it's been a week when a fake-crying cartoon alligator makes you tear up too. I'd have broken the little devil out also.
Tumblr media
3. I was really mad at him for pointing a knife at Alligator Loki a panel ago, but I live for jealous, insecure Loki oh my God. First of all, dude, you ran off into a fucking portal. It's not Alligator Loki's fault Thor reached into the portal looking for you and pulled him out! It's not Alligator Loki's fault Thor's been reaching out all this time and you've been slapping his hand away. It's not Alligator Loki's fault that he (a little bit) let Thor take care of him when Loki refuses. Maybe you should let Thor love you!
Tumblr media
4. HOWEVER! You don't get to take a bite out of the Coat!!! Loki has an emotional attachment to that coat. I have an emotional attachment to that coat! You leave that coat alone!
Tumblr media
5. I fucking love this. Alligator Loki has bitten people in almost every chapter so far, but he hasn't been bitten back. I think this might be the first time he's ever been bitten back. And I'm not shocked Loki did it. Frankly I think any Loki would and I'm surprised President Loki didn't do it in the show. I wonder if it'll be some time before Alligator Loki's reaction of choice is biting, just in case.
Tumblr media
6. The art of this comic is so simple, and then there are panels like this, with so much going on that you can miss it. Alligator Loki's cold, because it's winter and he's cold-blooded, so Loki leaves him draped in his beloved coat, which in itself would be so sweet. But then he gets a bunch of fire-powered people to stay and keep Alligator Loki warm. But wait, Loki still has his coat, did he have a second one somewhere? But the tails are shimmering with magic; this dork is so vain and so attached to a coat he doesn't even need that he magicked himself one before he even left the area.
Tumblr media
7. ...And now I'm sobbing. Good-bye.

72 Shows Watched in 2023: Ranked!
72. Titans (Season 4)- 2/5.
As someone who genuinely enjoyed the first two seasons, the fall-off was immensely disappointing. Season 3 was disappointing, but I'm more infuriated with season 4. I did not like the setup or payoff with Trigon, Brother Blood, and any other antagonists this season, or Superboy's character arc. A disappointing, dull slog the entire way through.
71. The Witcher (Season 3)- 2.5/5
I thought the third season started fine. Henry Cavill as Geralt will always be iconic. The rest of the cast, characters like Yennefer, Ciri, and Jaskier are compelling when onscreen but the others feel unmemorable. Episode 5, which focused on Geralt and Yen in the ballroom, was possibly the best episode of the season. But the last three episodes were forgettable enough to bring down my overall enjoyment. I shudder at how Liam Hemsworth will be next season or just how the next season will be. Period.
70. Bupkis- 2.5/5.
Bupkis is a comedy on Peacock, starring Pete Davidson as himself in a slightly more extreme version of his life. It also stars Edie Falco, notable for playing Carmella in The Sopranos and Jackie in Nurse Jackie, as his mother, and Joe Pesci, of Goodfellas and Home Alone fame, as his grandfather. The star power is grand but the jokes are light. There are some engaging stories told from episode to episode, but as a comedy, it could strive to be better. Reel back on your celebrity guests and write stronger jokes for the second season please, Pete.
69. Bel-Air- (Season 2) 3/5
Also on Peacock, the dramatized version of the classic, beloved sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. In comparison to season 1, I think it's a bit of a step-down. The actors chosen to portray the iconic characters and add a new spin on them are finely picked and perform solid performances. But the storylines for each character are...eh. Like, Carlton struggles with an addiction to coke for the season and it doesn't feel the most engaging. The character dynamics are enough to elevate it slightly, but it's still just an okay season.
68. Kaleidoscope- 3/5
Kaleidoscope is a Netflix show that spans over 24 years, where a crew of bandits try to steal billions. Part of the appeal of the show is that you can watch the show in any order you want. It's a neat gimmick to tell a linear story, but the story being told could be better. Giancarlo Esposito, known as Gus Fring in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, does well in a role that separates him from the villainous roles he's taken over the past decade. Every other actor and character could stand to be better. I'd like to see another show try this gimmick again, but...in a more intriguing manner.
67. Secret Invasion- 3/5
Personally, I don't find the show to be as horrendous as others attest, but it is easily the weakest MCU show to grace the small screen. Wondering which character may or may not be human or a Skrull was fun, the fight scenes are okay, and Samuel L Jackson is always a delight as Nick Fury. But the political drama they strived for here is uninspired. And the show downright looks ugly at times in comparison to far prettier shows like WandaVision or Loki. Rest in Peace to Maria Hill and Talos for having to die in such a mid show.
66. Bookie- 3/5
Bookie is an HBO Max original starring stand up comedian Sebastian Maniscalco as a veteran sports bookie trying to live his life and keep track of the various clients he has that make sports bets in Los Angeles. The premise itself holds some promise, and the characters are mostly likable. Its comedy is similar to Maniscalco's stand-up but still feels light on the laughter. Maniscalco and Omar Dorsey's characters carry the show enough to cross a threshold into becoming okay. It reminds me a little of Bupkis, but better.
65. Willow- 3/5
Willow is a continuation of the movie of the same name released back in 1988. The actor who played the titular Willow over 30+ years ago reprised his role once more as a powerful sorcerer who encounters a young group of heroes who embark on a dangerous quest. While the movie reminded me of The Neverending Story with its tone, the show does the same, more or less. The action scenes and cast were perfectly okay, sorta carrying itself on a cheesy, endearing vibe that you either rock with or don't. What's most egregious is how the show was wiped away Disney+ canceled and wiped from their platform, making it impossible to view via legal means.
64. Camp Lazlo- 3/5
Camp Lazlo was a show that used to air on Cartoon Network from 2005 to 2008. I used to watch it as a child then and rewatched it in its entirety for the first time in years. The series follows anthropomorphic spider monkey Lazlo and his bunkmates albino rhino Clam and elephant Raj as they look for fun times at Camp Kidney. It's a goofy, fine TV show that I think kids nowadays would get a kick out of, but there are better shows from that time to indulge in. The characters teeter from being likable to annoying from episode to episode, the character design is fine, and the comedy is lowbrow. It's not offensive in any way, but I'm a little disappointed since I liked this show a lot more as a kid than now. For me, it doesn't hold up too much.
63. The Last Kingdom (Seasons 3-5) 3/5
For 5 seasons, The Last Kingdom followed Uhtred of Bamburgh in the Medieval Age fighting mighty European armies and leading armies himself as a powerful warrior who's grown into his own. The first two seasons, viewed in the tail-end of 2022, were possibly the best seasons. Alexander Dreymon's performance as Uhtred was fine throughout, but not as gripping as I would hope. The same principle applies to every character introduced in the past three seasons after season two. A fine story is told throughout, but the best aspect has to be the action scenes. As disinterest took over towards the final season, I take solace that the movie that followed, Seven Kings Must Die, was really good and a great sendoff to Uhtred.
62. Dave (Season 3)- 3/5
Maybe Dave is the slightly better version of Bupkis than Bookie was. Dave stars David Burd, also known as Lil Dicky, as an extreme version of himself looking to boost his rap career. The latest season was a slight step down from season 2. It's always relied on gross-out humor, but it was too much this season. This season was a huge mixed bag with some good episodes and some that were average. Certain characters could use more fleshing out, like his friends, Elz, or Mike. More of that instead of flexing the cameos like Drake or Rick Ross would bring the show up a bit more. Though, to be fair, Brad Pitt in his episode was pretty entertaining.
61. Ahsoka- 3/5
Former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano seeks to prevent the return of the Empire as she investigates and traverses the galaxy. I wanted to like this more than I did. I loved Ahsoka in the Clone Wars show and enjoyed Rosario's performance in the handful of episodes she appeared in Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett. And while Rosario is decent as Ahsoka here, the rest of the cast fails to thrill me. Ahsoka seems like the kind of show that someone would enjoy if you watched the animated show Star Wars: Rebels because it would help make you care more about the characters. Unfortunately, I did not do that so it doesn't help. All I will really remember from this show is the appearances of Hayden Christensen's Anakin Skywalker.
60. Black Mirror (Season 6)- 3/5
The anthology show pushed out 5 episodes this season, and about 3 of them were good. Loch Henry was an uninteresting episode until the final ten minutes, and Mazey Day was the worst episode of the bunch easily. However, the performances and premises of the other three episodes were enough to bring the show as high as it did for me. If you're looking for a random standalone episode that's either entertainingly perplexing, pleasantly thought-provoking, or thrillingly cataclysmic, check out the episodes Joan is Awful, Demon 79, and Beyond the Sea.
59. Doom Patrol (Season 4)- 3/5
Originally a DC Universe Original before becoming an HBO Max original, Doom Patrol was a spinoff of the Titans show about an unlikely group of superheroes with depressing backstories saving the world. This final season really cemented itself that this particular brand of bizarreness, while engaging, was not necessarily for me. The first season was always my favorite, with Alan Tudyk as Mr. Nobody being an excellent foil to the group, but the proceeding seasons never met the same level of love for me as the first. The characters are likable, their arcs are well written, and there's a beautiful sendoff to the cast, but it has a unique sense of weirdness that, while I do admire it, doesn't resonate with me as much as it might for others.
58. AEW All Acess- 3.5/5
The second biggest professional wrestling promotion in America, AEW, showcased a reality show that gave viewers a glimpse into the backstage antics and lives of wrestlers. I'm not big on reality shows, but I love AEW and the wrestlers who work for the company as well. It was an intriguing peak behind the curtain but to an extent for a reality show such as this. Certain elements of drama feel corny as it's somewhat scripted for a "reality" show, there's only so much you can show. And with AEW battling real dramatic bits, like CM Punk fighting people backstage, it feels underwhelming what they show instead. Though, it's understandable they can't show or talk about those instances due to legal issues. Regardless, AEW All Access if a fine product for AEW and reality tv show fans, if there's a correlation.
57. Righteous Gemstones (Season 3)- 3.5/5
The HBO Max show follows the Gemstone family, a bunch of Christian televangelists running their church in the wake of the patriarch Eli's wife's death. The third and latest season is as consistent as the first two seasons. The performances and chemistry of the children, Judy, Kelvin, and Jesse, are a joy to watch. The entire cast is fun with their obscene humor leading to chuckle-inducing jokes. The Gemstones have heart that makes them so endearing.
56. Dexter (Seasons 5-7)
In a long-lasting endeavor to enjoy the original seasons before finally getting around to New Blood, the misadventures of blood-splatter analyst Dexter Morgan bled into 2023. The best seasons, 1-4, were watched in 2022, and this year, 5-7 were enjoyed. The fifth season was a step down from the first four, but the introduction of the character Lumen and Dexter's handling of his grief after losing someone dear to him made for still compelling television. The seventh season was on par with the fifth thanks to a compelling character in Isaak and Maria Laguerta's role. The sixth season is what brings the show down, as the antagonists are underwhelming against the many that came before.
55. Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide 3.5/5
Ned's Declassified was another kid's show I watched growing up that aired three seasons from 2004 to 2007. The show followed middle schooler Ned Bigby and his best friends Moze and Cookie as they tried navigating through middle school, looking to survive. I'm unsure what most kids are like these days, but I'd like to think that this would be something that kids approaching middle school would enjoy. The show became more interesting as seasons went on, the romance aspects were somewhat intriguing, and the wacky supporting characters were mostly likable. The tips and lessons could still apply to kids looking for a guide today. Kids might get a kick out of this today, but should probably stay away from the weird podcast about the show. They really don't need to hear stories about Moze's actor blowing all the other guys on set or whatever.
54. Star Wars: Visions (Season 2)- 3.5/5
The animated anthology series provided a new season with new stories to tell. The animation across the board is gorgeous. Story-wise, the most engaging episodes involve a former Sith and the one where a bunch of people are stuck in a pit they built for the empire. Not every episode is as interesting as those two, but there are neat ideas explored in each episode that one might not see in a star wars show or movie anytime soon.
53. Only Murders In The Building (Seasons 1-2)- 3.5/5
As season three of the acclaimed murder mystery dramedy released this year, I found the time to check out the first two seasons before the year ended. Watching Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin work off one another and try to figure out back to back murders is highly entertaining as their chemistry is off the charts. The special guest stars like Tina Fey or Nathan Lane have helped bring the show as high as it is and it should be commended.
52. Narcos (Seasons 1-2)- 3.5/5
The first two seasons that detail the rise and fall of notorious crime lord Pablo Escobar are as good as they are due in part to the powerful performance by Wagner Moura as the drug kingpin. There were some solid performances throughout the show, but no one gripped me as much as him. (Bit of a spoiler coming here...) When Pablo died at the end of season two, there was little incentive to watch season 3 for me. Others may find this more enjoyable than me, but I recognize that this is a solid, well-made show.
51. Ted Lasso (Seasons 1-3)- 3.5/5
Ted Lasso was a great show for the first two seasons before the quality of season 3 brought it down. Some character arcs with characters like Keely didn't satisfy me. The show's decision to make the episodes an hour long brought the quality down immensely. If season three didn't make such boneheaded choices in its last season, the feel-good comedy would rank higher for me.
50. South Park (Season 26)- 3.5/5
the raunchy, foul-mouthed sitcom still can push out gems, but I miss the old seasons when they were much longer. The latest season pushed out 6 episodes, and while none were bad, if there were at least a few more episodes, the latest season would've been almost great. Two standout episodes for me involve the conspiracy around Japanese toilets, and the episode written by AI like Chat GPT. Nothing as hilarious as previous iconic episodes, but the topics and creativity was sublime still.
49. Disenchantment (Season 5)- 3.5/5
Created by Matt Groening, the same genius mind behind the Simpsons and Futurama, Disenchantment is an animated fantasy series that takes place in a medieval land, following the main characters of Princess Tiabeanie, her elf companion Elfo, and demon buddy Luci. The fifth season was its last, bidding farewell to the zany cast and its colorful multitude of a supporting cast. An underrated show that deserves viewing.
48. Scrubs (Seasons 5-8)- 3.5/5
The classic sitcom about medical students turned doctors peaked with its first 5 seasons. The stories, premises, and character development would not reach the same heights in seasons 6 to 8. Some jokes are funny but don't land as hard for me as they did upon my first viewing as a preteen. Rest in Peace to Sam Lloyd, who played possibly the funniest character on the show and my favorite, Ted. He encapsulated a depressing lawyer swimmingly.
47. Bobobo-bobo-bobo- 3.5/5
Bobobo-bobo-bobo was like a fever dream that I never stopped thinking about as a kid. The bizarre anime about the man Bobobo-bobo-bobo fighting enemies with his nose hairs used to air on Cartoon Network during its Toonami block back in the 2000s. After obtaining a blu-ray disc some time ago, I finally got to watching. It's rapid pace with jokes, insane characters, and wild visual gags wormed it's way into my heart. If I were to let bias get in the way, this would be in my top ten. But not every joke in this comedy lands. I still love this show to pieces tho and wish they'd bring it back.
46. Twisted Metal- 3.5/5
This adaptation of the racing game was the most fun show Peacock produced this year that I watched. The cast is enjoyable with Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz anchoring the show for its duration, but it's AEW wrestler Samoa Joe as Sweet Tooth, while Will Arnett provides the voice of the same character, that capture a special magic. The action scenes could stand to be more thrilling, but the stories and character interactions help elevate the show to be a blast.
45. Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight (Seasons 2-3)- 3.5/5
This Netflix series about the dragon warrior Po was well-made. Jack Black reprising his role as the titular panda was incredibly welcome as he's the best part of the show. Joining Po are an interesting cast of characters that accompany him on a grand journey. Everything from the action scenes and set pieces to somber character moments were perfectly solid. Another fine show for kids or fans of the Kung Fu Panda series to hold you down while waiting for Kung Fu Panda 4.
44. The Mandalorian (Season 3)- 3.5/5
The latest escapades of Din Djarin and Grogu this season were entertaining, but not as much as previous endeavors in seasons 1 or 2 clearly. The decision to have Din and Grogu separate in the season 2 finale and reunite in another show was a poor choice, robbing this show of a gripping emotional return way too soon. But, the action scenes were still decent, the cameos of the likes of Jack Black and Lizzo were cute and harmless, and Bo Katan's arc helped to make the season at least somewhat compelling.
43. I Am Groot (Season 2)- 3.5/5
Baby Groot is adorable. Five short episodes show baby Groot getting into little shenanigans. My personal favorite involves the one where The Watcher gets stressed watching Groot dick around and get into danger. If you're looking for something really cute and wholesome, I Am Groot would make for a fine 20 minute burst.
42. Whose Line Is It Anyway? (Seasons 8-10)- 3.5/5
It doesn't matter how much time passes or how old improv legends Colin Mochrie, Ryan Stiles or Wayne Brady get, they have not missed any beats. The CW version of the show is not as good as the original, due to its over reliance on repeated games or unfunny special guests, but the performers themselves are comedic geniuses that I love wholeheartedly. The latest seasons on HBO Max have had them trying different games and breaking from tradition and its for the best. One of my favorite comfort viewings.
41. Wrestlers- 3.5/5
Wrestlers is a documentary that follows former WWE wrestler Al Snow trying to keep his wrestling promotion Ohio Valley Wrestling alive. The series focuses on Al, the various wrestlers and workers that he employ as he books his shows week to week, and outside forces looking to work with OVW. Getting to know the wrestlers behind their over-the-top personal and see the struggles of a wrestling promotion nowhere near as big as WWE or AEW was fascinating.
40. Vikings: Valhalla (Season 2)- 3.5/5
Based in the Viking age, the main characters of Leif Erikson, Freydis and Harald remain the most compelling characters in their show. I wish I could say as much for other aspects. The season was a step-down from season 1, but the emotional story beats and cinematography are decent enough aspects to rate it as high as it is for me.
39. Demon Slayer (Season 3)- 3.5/5
The latest season of the hit anime Demon Slayer was fun, but like many other shows on this list, the season to come beforehand...I simply enjoyed more. Mitsuri was an intriguing Hashira to know, and Villains this season were solid. But the lack of presence of other characters like Inosuke are felt and the emotional beats don't work as well as the previous season. But the season finale was stellar enough to bring the season up quite a bit at least.
38. Insecure (Seasons 4-5)- 3.5/5
Insecure remained consistently good throughout its 5 season run. Issa Rae was a great lead for the show as she and her character were extremely likable. The humorous series had a fine cast, but her friend Kelli had to be my favorite as she was seemingly the funniest of the bunch.
37. Food Wars (Season 5)- 3.5/5
The final season to this over-the-top nontraditional battle Shonen anime was a serviceable sendoff to the endearing cast of zany teens. The cooking show anime aired on Toonami this year and as it wrapped up, I felt sad to see it go as I've enjoyed the wackiness many characters provided. But the last episode was a decent sendoff as well. Though not as good as seasons beforehand, Food Wars fifth season is still a treat.
36. Star Wars: The Bad Batch (Season 2)- 3.5/5
The sophomore season of this animated star wars show was as entertaining as its first. Shoutout to Dee Bradley Baker for voicing five different clones and bringing nuance to each character. A ragtag group of clone troopers on their adventures was exciting at times and the season finale was perhaps the best episode of the batch.
35. Total Drama- 3.5/5
Another show from my childhood thats sometimes a gem and sometimes infuriating. Its first three seasons harbored a good sense of humor and a truly sublime cast of animated characters. It was peak. Unfortunately, the following seasons failed to live up to the standards in character work and pacing, among many other issues. However, the season titled The Ridonculous Race, was great enough to bring the show back up. I haven't seen the latest season yet, but the best seasons of this show are worth checking out.
34. Harley Quinn (Season 4)- 4/5
A great season for the books even if it didn't live up the spectacle of its third season. The animation remains solid and the first half of the show was strong. With Bane still hilarious and Harley and Poison Ivy's respective character arcs that focus on their individuality being as entertaining as they were, there's still a lot to like from this season. Even if it lacks in other departments, like, not enough Clayface.
33. Big Nate (Season 2)- 4/5
Huge bias here, but I used to read the Big Nate Books as a kid and I have a huge soft spot for them which applies to this show. The animation is solid, there's a good sense of humor, and the core cast of kids are incredibly likable. If you're looking for 6th grade kid shenanigans that's bound to.make you chuckle, pleas support the show on Paramount Plus so it gets dozens of seasons.
32. My Hero Academia (Season 6)- 4/5
The latest season of teenage superheroes in training focused on two arcs for 20+ episodes. The first arc saw an all out war between numerous heroes and Villains while the second arc saw our main character, Deku, enter an Era of self-doubt and edginess after the events of the first arc. The second arc would've been better if it had more time dedicated to it, but the turns, twists, action scenes, and revelations of the first arc are enough to elevate this season to greatness.
31. Gen V- 4/5
This spinoff of The Boys was a slightly better series that focused on school kids with superpowers than My Hero. It's still got The Boys charm with its signature violence and gore with characters intriguing enough to keep you hooked. Gen V is a great addition to The Boys universe that warrants attention.
30. Avenue 5 (Season 2)- 4/5
An underrated sitcom following a space captain, his employees and crew, and hundreds of passengers on a space cruise trying to.make their way back home. The cast was stellar, the jokes were hilarious, the premise was engaging, and yet it STILL got canceled and I'll forever be mad about that.
29. Blackish (Seasons 1-3)- 4/5
The family sitcom about the Johnson family has picked up for me lately on my first viewing. The first episode and some to follow in season 1 were a bit rocky as the show was finding its footing. But with Seasons 2 and 3 so far, it's proven to be especially funny with a talented cast and thoughtful messaging.
28. Codename: Kids Next Door (Seasons 1-3)- 4/5
Yet another show from my childhood I've been in the midst of rewatching! The Kids Next Door follows children acting as secret agents that fight against teenagers and adults of all sorts. This classic cartoon would fit so well with an audience today, I'd like to think. With an endearing core cast and a truly fun rogues gallery they face off with in episode to episode, I've started realizing how much influence something like this had on me growing up, I love this show.
27. Six Feet Under (Season 1)- 4/5
One of HBO's classic shows has recently come under my radar for the first time, and while it's a bit slow at times to my liking, it's proving to be a unique watch. It's takes on the passings of every day people coupled with a talented cast and stunning cinematography are leaving me to wonder how this show will fare upon progressing into the next few seasons.
26. Wu Tang: An American Saga (Season 3)
For three seasons, Wu Tang followed the rise of Hip Hops most decorated rap group. It's final season was a superb and contemplative sendoff to some of the greatest MCs to grab a mic. Some episodes and storybits were a bit rushed or dramatized needlessly, but the allegorical episodes were incredibly creative sometimes balances out. An underrated gem of a show, in my opinion.
25. One Piece (Live Action)- 4/5
One of the most faithful adaptations of the source material I've seen and I couldn't be happier. The outrageous characters from the anime and Manga look as wild as they do in live action, the set pieces are mesmerizing, and the performances of the Strawhat crew are special. I'm eagerly awaiting season 2 to see how they adapt what comes next.
24. Archer (Season 14)- 4/5
Despite the addition of a new character to the long running sitcoms final season, they didn't stray focus from its core cast of operatives we've gotten to know and love since 2009. Despite wavering in seasons prior, the writing here was on point, the performances did not miss a beat, and the final season was a wonderful send-off to these ragtag of oddballs.
23. Eric Andre Show (Season 6)- 4/5
Hannibal Burress' lack of presence is felt, but the chaotic nature of the show never left and I love that for it. Whether insane bits on the street or at the studio, Eric Andre has still found ways to psychologically confuse and torture strangers and celebrities alike in a manner that still makes my stomach hurt from laughter and absurdities.
22. My Adventures With Superman- 4/5
This take on the beginnings of Clark Kent's journey as Superman was a fun time. Its animation is pleasing to the eye, Clark and Lois Lane's relationship is incredibly endearing and wholesome at times, and the villains introduced are decent foils to Superman.
21. Futurama (season 11)- 4/5
After being canceled and brought back for the umpteenth time, seeing the Futurama cast return again after about a decade (not including that one Simpsons crossover episode from a few years ago) was so welcome. The show tackled more modern topics like Bitcoin and the COVID pandemic to varying degrees of success. Bringing back the entire original cast and still being able to provide solid entertainment is comforting.
20. Superstore- 4/5
Indulging in the entirety of Superstore, the sitcom about employees working in a giant Walmart-esque retail building, for the first time was intriguing. The first season felt too reminiscent of The Office in characters, but as the seasons progressed it slowly started to morph into its own thing. As characters found their own personalities, the show increasingly became more and more hilarious, even with its final season filmed during peak pandemic lockdown.
19. Loki (Season 2)- 4/5
An improvement upon the first season by a margin. Adding Key Huy Quan and Rafael Casal to the cast this season was an excellent choice. The rest of the cast was equally superb, but it's Tom Hiddleston as Loki completing his transformation from a god of mischief to a selfless god was perfect. The finale to the season was bittersweet but also perhaps the best episode of a Disney MCU show so far.
18. Atlanta (Season 4)- 4/5
Donald Glover's experimental series starring himself, Zazie Beets, Brian Tyree Henry, and LaKeith Stanfield, provided possibly the best season of the show. I feel there could've been an opportunity to bring back people from the previous seasons at some point this season, but the episodes this season were pretty remarkable. The final episode leaves one to wonder about the status of our characters but not in a doom-and-gloom manner which I can rock with.
17. Baki Hanma (Season 2)- 4/5
Not since Jojo's Bizarre Adventure have I seen an action anime so ridiculous thrill me almost entirely from start to end. Baki Hanma is a well-crafted, better-written show than its previous series simply titled 'Baki.' Two arcs focus on a prehistoric caveman thawing out of the ice and the world's greatest fighters try to defeat it. While the second arc has our main character try and combat his ultra-powerful dad in a fight that's been built up for years. Both arcs were over-the-top peak that warrant viewing if you live for that nature.
16. Blindspotting (Season 2)- 4/5
The sequel series to the film of the same name is just as great as the film itself. Jasmine Cephas Jones as Ashley, who initially harbored a small role in the film, is good as the lead for the show. Her various family members and friends either helped her or overwhelmed her in ways that made for intriguing television. Combined with fun usage of cameos from rappers and riveting musical sequences, you have another show that gets canceled way to soon and pisses me OFF.
15. Rick and Morty (Season 7)- 4/5
Upon giving co-creator and creep Justin Roiland the boot, the team behind Rick and Morty managed to deliver a quality season up there with some of their best. The new voices for Rick and Morty that replaced Roiland have nestled nicely into the role, and after delivering one of the greatest episodes in the series in 'Unmortricken' any anxieties about the quality of Rick and Morty have been quelled for the future of the show.
14. Jujitsu Kaisen (Season 2)- 4/5
The first few episodes focused on the backstory of a few crucial characters years ago, and while they were sufficient, the meat of the season lies within the Shibuya Incident. As good and evil fight across the city of Shibuya and the bodies pile sky high, JJK has crafted an unforgettable second season with stakes high and memorable moments galore.
13. One Piece (Wano Arc)- 4/5
As the One Piece anime wraps up its longest story arc to date, looking back it's clear to see that the legendary scenes will pang throughout the echoes of time. Despite shit pacing, as One Piece is known to have, it gave us moments of Luffy attaining the Gear 5 form, his jaw-dropping fight with Kaido, and entertaining fights between the Strawhats and the rest of Kaido's crew. Thank god it's over though, and we can finally prepare for the next island Luffy and the Strawhats head toward.
12. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off- 4/5
I think I like this more than the movie, even though it's been years since I last saw the film. But Scott Pilgrim Takes Off took Scott's friends, Ramona's exes, and plenty of other characters with varying degrees of screen time in the movie, amplified it in the show, and made everyone INCREDIBLY likable. With awesome fight scenes and delightful characters, the show has become a must-see for animation fans.
11. The Bear (Seasons 1-2)- 4/5
Who knew how anxiety-inducing a show about a young chef running a restaurant with a hectic kitchen staff could be. The groundwork laid in season 1 elevated season 2 to excellency. The cast is fascinating, and the episodes that involve characters running around frantically, desperately trying to tie shit together have lead to the best episodes on television this year. If you watch one episode from this show, please watch the episode titled 'Fishes.'
10. Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake- 4/5
The spinoff and continuation from yet another Cartoon Network classic is at least on par with the original Adventure Time. Taking the fictional characters of Fionna and Cake and expounding upon them to make them their own fleshed-out characters is amazing. The blossoming relationship of Gary and Marshall was sweet and Simon's existential crisis was heart-wrenching. Eagerly awaiting it's next season.
9. Orange Is The New Black (Seasons 1-3)- 4/5
As I'm currently on my first viewing of this show, as of this writing, I can see how this show about women in prison put Netflix on the map for their original programming. Our leads slow descent into morally questionable behavior is as compelling as every surrounding story with her fellow inmates. The final minutes of the season three finale were powerful imagery for the inmates. And as the depressing dramedy continues forward, I cannot wait to see how the rest of the show shapes.
8. Succession (Seasons 1-4)- 4/5
After binging all four seasons this year, Succession is the closest show I've seen to poetry in motion. The inner dynamics of these deeply disturbed members of the Roy family as they backstab, connive, and try to destroy one another just to reach a comfortable seat of power made for devastating television. I only wish there was one more season to spend more time with the cast.
7. Dragon Ball Z- 4/5
This is the last show on this list that was something I watched as a kid, I promise. The iconic Shonen action show is my favorite anime of all time, but I tried not to let some of personal bias cloud some of my judgment. It's the grandfather of all action anime for a reason, and what prevents it from being my number one is that I believe some of the following shows are just a liiiiiiittle bit more tightly written.
6. The Last Of Us- 4.5/5
Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey managed to put on performances as stellar as the voice actors in the game, it's wild. I thought the adaptation was amazing, with sublime performances across the board, a decent pace, and an exploration of character depth unseen in the game with characters like Bill and Frank. It might've been a little light on zombies this season which I hope they rectify in the future.
5. Castlevania Nocturne- 4.5/5
As someone who adored the previous Castlevania anime series, this season had some big shoes to fill. For the first season, they knocked it out of the park. The animation is more gorgeous than ever, the new characters introduced in this spinoff are intriguing, and they laid superb groundwork for the following season.
4. It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia (Season 16)- 4.5/5
Clearly, the best season that this gang of scumbags has put out in years. The entire season saw the gang at their dumbest which lead to hilarious setups and instant classics in its legacy. While all 5 characters were at their best this season, I want to highlight Danny Devito in Frank Vs Russia and Glenn Howerton in The Gang Goes Bowling and Dennis Takes a Mental Health Day as some of the best comedic chops they've almost ever had. I died laughing so much this season.
3. Primal (Seasons 1-2)- 4.5/5
The story about a caveman and a dinosaur going on adventures and was surprisingly...peak. The storytelling despite minimal to no words being spoken is immaculate, and when the first words were dropped I almost lost my shit. The first season was great, but the second season helped elevate the entirety of the show. It's cliff hangers are jaw-dropping, the arcs in season 2 were grand in scale, and the Primal Theory was perhaps the best episode of the whole show. I wish I watched this sooner.
2. What We Do In The Shadows (Season 5)- 4.5/5
The only show to make me laugh just as much, possibly just a little bit more, than It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia is the show about Vampires in Staten Island of course. Guillermo's season long arc of vampirism came to a satisfying conclusion and the rest of the cast were on point, especially my personal favorite character: Lazlo. The cast were on point, and the comedic chops were strong, I just hope it's final season is at least as strong as this season was.
Barry (Season 4)- 5/5.
The 4th season of Barry was excellent. Barry the character and Barry the show has been immortalized with the events that transpire over this 8-episode season. The fate of the characters followed over the past few seasons has been befitting and heartbreaking but understandable in some circumstances. The way the show transitioned into something darker over the past two seasons as this hitman who tried to become an actor influenced the people around him and brought them down into the deepest trenches with him. There is no doubt in my mind that Barry was my personal favorite show viewed in 2023. Thank you for reading my list if you did.

caoimhin 2022 reading wrap up
- Gideon the Ninth & Harrow the Ninth - good. made me insane. read them basically cover to cover. awesome
- The Hobbit - 10/10 it's the fuckin hobbit man. this was of course a re-read because I'm cultured
- The Great Gatsby - cool. enjoyed. also a re-read. so true fitzgerald materialism is bad. I love gay people
- Dogsbody - so good. dwj's ability to balance the themes of her stories always gets me. I need to read more of her books
- Howl's Moving Castle - I've read it more than 10 times in the last two years I love it so much 10000/10
- A Study In Charlotte - I love me some sherlock holmes. I love autism. I love people who are fucked up. enjoyed it as much as I did when I was 13
- Castle In The Air - hmc sequel. gets better every re-read. dwj poses an earth shattering question: what if all your favorite characters got even stupider? (this is about prince justin. he's the worst I love him)
- A River Runs Through It - destroyed me. holy shit. I finished that last page and had to go lay down for awhile. I was thinking about it for days. I am haunted by waters. god. good lord almighty.
- House of Many Ways - MASSIVE tone shift from a river runs through it. Charmain is a bitch and I like her so much. twinkle sucks. 9 million out of ten I love you Sophie Pendragon
- Howl's Moving Castle - by the time you finish homw you have to start hmc again to distract yourself from the series ending. howl and sophie were holding one another's hands and smiling and smiling quite unable to stop. I'm gonna pass out
- Hamlet - fuckin classic duh. I read this for the first time in seventh grade because I'm better than everyone. there's a reason it's one of the most widely known pieces of literature ever written
- Pride and Prejudice - also better every time I read it. Jane Austen is a genius. I wish I had an Elizabeth to my Darcy
- The Lightning Thief - percy jackson my beloved
- Sea of Monsters - retweet
- Storm Front - harry dresden is a bitch
- Fool Moon - harry dresden gets grievously injured, still manages to kill people
- Grave Peril - michael carpenter my beloved
- Summer Knight - karrin murphy btw (she is not enjoying herself)
- Death Masks - I love small children who carry great magical power
- Persuasion - Jane Austen I love you. I played minecraft prolifically while I listened to this book. it was so good. genuinely amazing. love love love
- Loki: Agent of Asgard - I always start this and I'm like "ha ha funny comic book" and then by the end I'm completely decimated. the art is so cool and I love watching it change throughout the run. conceptually the whole story and premise are so amazing. I can't really explain the extent of how good it is and do it justice. it's just awesome
- Pride and Prejudice - I forgot that I read this twice but if it's on the list you'd better be damn sure it happened
- The Raven Boys - I love pretentious glasses-wearing teenage boys (me irl)
- Patriot Games - the Harrison Ford movie is better but it was chill ig.
- Dream Thieves - fuck shit up little man
- Blue Lily, Lily Blue - popular among welsh voices in my head
- Murder on the Orient Express - AMAZING. I love hercule poirot so much. although I sort of knew the general ending, having seen, you know, literally any TV show made in the last 100 years, I was really surprised and pleased with the way the whole novel unfolded itself. awesome
- The Raven King - honestly awesome ending to the series. thoroughly enjoyed
- Rebecca - books that changed me at age 8. not sure why my mother chose to give me this book at that age but I'm forever glad she did. Rebecca is dead the entire story and she haunts it more than any ghost could. Spectacular. something about Mrs de Winter's name never being told to us or said out loud, but Rebecca's name being EVERYWHERE.... fantastic
- Blood Rites - I LOVE YOU THOMAS
- Never Let Me Go - I understand why this was award winning and I think I will never read it again
- Howl's Moving Castle - what better way to end my year. howl said I think we ought to live happily ever after and sophie thought he meant it. also I got the fancy illustrated hardcover version for Christmas and I am so happy. I will not be lending it to anyone ever. it's my baby.

i was tagged by @petrichoraline to post four albums i've been listening to recently <3 thank you thank you!!
this was trickier than i thought it would be tbh 😅 i don't consistently stream many albums apparently lol but here are a few:
wasteland, baby! - hozier - it's just. so good. idk what to say. changed the trajectory of my life, constantly in my on repeat playlist. shoutout beloved irish man
isolation - kali uchis - instant classic tbh. bop after bop in there 🙏 insane how the songs never get old either, i find myself coming back to them all the time. a real history maker
blue neighbourhood - troye sivan - i am slowly coming to terms with the fact that i am never moving on from this album :') made my teenage years and honestly still gets me to this day
anti - rihanna - recently remembered just what a gift this was and i am trying to cherish it more as i realize that 🤍 like. the range. the vocals. the loopability. all 1000/10, can't recommend enough
doing this was kind of like exposing myself for not fully listening through a lot of new albums, since all of these are 4 years old or more kjhdsjsf. still, i had fun with it :)
tagging @glamgoblin @darkthestars @oh-goodness-loki @bluejayfiction @rei-the-head-shaker and anyone else who wants to! no pressure as always besties 🥰

Domestic Bliss (Classic!Loki x GN!Reader)
Nexus Masterlist
Description: when newly settled into your apartment, both you and Classic!Loki lament over a glass of rich wine
warnings: mentions of the void, angst, a bit of fluffy marriage banter, doting over Kid!Loki and Alligator Loki
a/n: richard e. grant is hot, y’all just too scared to admit it
a/n: this is also the first one in the Nexus AU fics so yeah
Tumblr media
Leaving the void was the best decision you made.
But it didn’t mean it did not leave bitterness to new beginnings. Settled in a small apartment, at a tall building, with nothing but illusion cast beds, couches and dishes - along with your husband, your somewhat son and his pet - things did sting a little.
It was late, approaching 11.30 at night, you sat on a chair in the kitchen scrolling mindlessly through your phone that you snagged from the downstairs appliance cabinet, eventually growing board, placing your face into your hands, only to dote on the beautiful gold and green ring on your finger.
You wallowed for a moment. Perhaps a drink, You thought - why waste the night away, right?
You got up and grabbed a bottle of red wine from the top cabinet and a glass, it was slightly dirty, but, to be completely honest, you had zero energy to do something about it. You poured near to the rim, until you were interrupted by the sound of flip-flops.
“A drink?” said the voice, “Without me?”
It was your husband. You turned and smiled, pulling a second glass from the cabinet, pouring only half way. He sat on the chair across from you, swallowing the dark substance to ask:
“Are you worried?”
A pretty basic question at best, even for a Loki it was basic.
“Why?” You ask, “Did the ‘drinking wine in the dark alone’ act give it away?”
You both chuckle.
“Possibly. It isn’t often that I witness my beloved so distant like this - what’s on your mind?”
You turn to look at the couch, seeing the young boy and his alligator cuddled up and sleeping peacefully like kittens, Loki turns to the couch, then to you. “He will grow up as normal. It’ll just be different than the usual upbringing of a prince.”
“That doesn’t mean he’ll be safe.” You finish the glass. “We left the void, we escaped and they will find us-”
“-To tell you the truth...we left the void because we didn’t let them define us - think of it like this, you were the one that suggested we left, and it was the best decision we made.”
He gets up from his seat to pull your face closer to his, you stood up, wrapping you arms around him, you placed your head into the crook of his neck.
“I left because I want to rebuild my life - and I will finally get to do that - with you and the boy, and the alligator.”
“He needs to learn how to at least turn into a cat.” You laughed, embracing each other with a firm kiss on the lips, he was gentle, but this was a new type of gentle.
All of this was new, but now it didn’t hurt.

What are your favorite MCU movies?
Hey anon!! I think my faves are as follows:
1. Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers my beloved, I am so in love with her it isn't even funny)
2. Werewolf By Night (because who doesn't love a good shlocky fifties style horror movie? A masterclass in classic horror which surprised me but I adored it)
3. Eternals (I can't gush about this movie enough. There's something about someone being so old and all knowing yet still struggling to find a place even amongst those who are like them and I adored everything this movie had to offer. I love the slower pacing and it was serene and almost sensual in a way and every about it makes me gush I will never shut up about it ever)
4. The Thor movies (always have a good time with these and while Love and Thunder felt a little lacking, every movie has been a good time, Thor never fails)
5. Ant Man 1 & 2 (I love how laid back they are and it's a good starting point because they're so self contained and I loved Ava Starr/Ghost)
6. Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness (Wanda being an iconic horror girl? We love to see it. Also Charlize Theron as Clea is exciting. I loved the creativity with the magic and the set pieces and Christine Palmer is *chef's kiss* perfection. America Chavez was a fun addition and I love Sam Raimi's flair on his movies)
7. Captain America The Winter Soldier (this movie OWNED MY ENTIRE ASS IN 2014 okay I was pretty convinced I was gonna become Sebastian Stan's best friend if we ever met but alas 17 year old me could only dream)
8. Shang Chi and the Legend Of The Ten Rings (the fight scenes! The whole sequence in the beginning where Shang Chi's mom and dad do that fight at the gates of Ta Lo was sexier than any sex scenes I've ever watched like it Did Things ™️ to me and I still haven't recovered)
9. 2012 Avengers (the one that started it all. I still get the same feeling I did that some great was happening with this movie and I love seeing where it all started compared to where they are now. It's a good time and yeah I have nothing more to say on it other than Natasha was fantastic and the fact that Thanos was in Loki's head even back then is mind boggling)
10. Infinity War (Avengers Endgame wants what this movie has and I will not elaborate)
11. Black Panther (a beautiful movie with a superb cast. The way Chadwick Boseman exudes class and charisma and charm through the entire film is stunning and the idea that even family can learn and grow as you learn and grow and try to be better is a wonderful message, I love this movie and Chadwick Boseman is gone too soon. Rest in peace, sir. I am very excited to see Namor in the sequel but it won't be the same without T'Challa, I just know it)
12. Black Widow (a wonderful sendoff for a character who deserves better. This movie came too little too late but it did introduce the wonderful Yelena Belova and Red Guardian. Natasha, I miss you and yeah. Natasha deserved better than the MCU gave her, especially considering she was one of the original six Avengers)
13. GOTG 1 (A great intro to a great team. Gamora has my heart alongside basically every other woman in the MCU and Bucky, and it really was just a fun romp through space after the MCU introduced a much darker tone with The Dark World. I am ecstatic for Adam Warlock's introduction in GOTG 3 and I do wish Dennis from Always Sunny was playing Starlord instead of crispy rat man. It also bugs me that Peter is confirmed to be half celestial in the MCU as of GOTG 2 and it is NEVER TOUCHED UPON AGAIN LIKE WTF FEIGE)
14. Basically the first three movies of the Fox X-Men series (so First Class, DoFP and Apocalypse)
15. LOGAN (made me cry shut up Caliban I miss you)

lisa my beloved! congratulations on your two year anniversary, your celebration is absolutely amazing <33. i am rather late in my request, but i am wondering if i can get a ship for the fandoms grishaverse and marvel? please please feel no hurry on this and take your time! do me a favor too and take care of yourself, kay luv? ♥️ anyway here’s my description :
i am a pansexual introvert, and my mbti is infp! you prob already know this, but i love fiction and literature! i am typically an optimistic, and i am also heavily a daydreamer as i enjoy immersing myself into several fictional worlds as a pastime. i am more on the quiet side when you first get to know me, but soon enough you can get a hint of my overly dramatic and sarcastic humor ( there is a reason why i’m in theatre ). my friends describe me as empathetic, resilient and often a grandma my love of knitting & crochet, anything classical, and also my short memory ( which is really a result of me getting distracted too much ).
For the Grishaverse, I ship you with Inej Ghafa!
Tumblr media
I just feel like the two of you would work so well together. You've definitely spent hours in the past trading sarcastic remarks when no one else can hear you, or offering live commentary on Kaz's various interactions throughout the day. Imagine: you're in your room, minding your own business, and Inej unlocks your window solely to poke her head in and inform you that she's just seen Dirtyhands himself trip over a loose flagstone when he thought nobody was watching. It is insufferable. It is fantastic. It is Ketterdam couple goals, all the way. Also, Inej would appreciate that you've managed to keep yourself so positive despite the fact that you're in the Barrel, so you've basically won at everything from that point forward.
For Marvel, I ship you with Loki!
Tumblr media
For every dramatic queen, there must also be a dramatic king. Such is the law of the land, and you and Loki are no exceptions. He also definitely adores your love of everything classical (including himself? I know he's asked you that at least a dozen times, and will do so again in the future) because it means he gets to share his hobbies and knowledge as well. Loki will go to countless bookstores with you, he will complain every time about the fact that the Asgardian libraries are far superior than any mortal construct, and he will find some old edition or two that leads to you having to drag him out hours later instead of the other way around. Basically, the two of you <3
