We dubbed her SSS'SS' bestowing this nickname in the summer for Sultry Smoking Solène "Super Star" and ain't it the truth? Truly remarkable! An angel who smokes cigarettes living in Paris, France!
SLENDER, TANNED AND SMOKING, SOLÈNE IS 'LOADED FOR BEAR!'
And what percentage of BHYSWs have "whiter" teeth? And what a rockin' tattoo! An immaculate complexion! Stylish hair! Sharp yet subtle jewelry that did not require a month's earnings to purchase! All in casual attire! After all, her nickname is Sultry Smoking Solène "Super Star" for good reason, right?
Dual-Media 83-Post, 470-Pack Ultra-Megapost!
And can any BHYSW handle a cigarette in a more sexy manner? Nearly flawless! Only "constructive criticism" would be that she would not be at the top of the list to become a guest lecturer on the "Stylish, Powerful, Grand and Persistent Exhales" class at any of the world's 3 Smoking Academies. Now would she? Solène is graceful, stylish, playful, serious at other times, friendly, loyal, fun-loving and gorgeous, though few fashion model magazines would describe her nose as a classic example of a desired nose. Beautiful eyes. Pouty lips. Lovely mouth. Wonderful cheekbones. Rugged chin. What does she do for work? In which of the 20 Arrondissements (administrative districts) does she reside in Paris? When did she become a fan of "Les Bleus," the French men's soccer (football) national team from the FFF (Fédération Française de Football). In one of her videos, a match involving "The Blues" is in the background. Did she play the sport and gave it up when her cigarette smoking left an impact on her fitness on and off the field? Some things are more important than other things, no? Does she date a football player? Would she want to? We stray . . . our network named her the Number 1 SF Newcomer of The Year for 2023, edging runner-up Dorine Zopp of Bordeaux, France who was born in Berlingen, Germany and is a fashion model and jewelry designer, and No. 3 teenager or BHYSW in her young-20s Mira Çelik of Turkey, who close to elite status in Yoga!
Most Current Post in Our Family of SSS'SS' Solène of Paris, France!
From vs120shound on February 17, 2024 . . .
SF Newcomer of The Year for 2023! (With Solène earning the No. 1 Spot)

Who is Kim Young Jin?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The man behind the looks, bringing BTS' vision to life, from photo-folios, to music videos to high fashion magazine photoshoots.
Kim YoungJin and his team have worked with the members as a group and as individuals on their concerts and everything in between.
Tumblr media
“Seoul-based stylist Youngjin Kim has been obsessed with fashion since he was a child, saving up his pocket money to buy magazines. “It was so special to me,” he remembers. After majoring in photography at college but leaning into the looks just as heavily, somebody suggested he give styling a go and well, the rest is history. These days, he’s working with BTS, but can also be found dressing the likes of NCT 127, Super M and Daniel Kang for cover features, campaigns and album artwork.”
ID Magazine - VICE Interview (March 2022)
Tumblr media
👤What was your entry point to styling?
“I worked as an assistant to [Korean actor] Jin Oh Jeon’s stylist for about five years and came to understand the overall system of the Korean fashion scene. Looking back, that time was so precious; time that brought me to this moment, I guess.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The man himself, Stylist @kimvinchey on IG
Tumblr media
Kim YoungJin styled BTS and Bang SiHyuk for their TIME Magazine 2022 photos.
Tumblr media
Kim YoungJin has been head stylist for MVs such as 'My Universe', styling Jimin for 'Vibe', j-hope for 'On The Street' to name but a few MVs
👤Tell us about the type of work you do.
“Styling for albums and projects such as “My Universe” by BTS and Coldplay is receiving tremendous attention on a global scale. Whenever I style an idol group, I think of a designer creating a collection. I mix and match clothes from different Japanese brands such as Comme des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto, and I express my own aesthetic with styling to fit each concept. I also style various editorials for fashion magazines. I consider myself a fashion stylist, and when I first took on the role of an idol stylist, I was proud of demonstrating what kind of visuals could be created if a fashion stylist takes on an idol.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kim Youngjin has worked with the members on the brand ambassadorship endeavours, such as styling for mag shoots like the Valentino photoshoot with SUGA
Tumblr media
👤Of course, a stylist doesn’t just ‘style’. You’re often a bridge between celebrities and brands — a look you introduce to an idol could quickly become a trend.
“Exactly. In many cases, celebrities or models with good momentum are recommended to brands or magazines, and if the celebrity is an ambassador of a fashion house, they communicate more closely with the fashion brand.”
Tumblr media
👤What do you think is the most important thing in styling?
“I try to combine the latest fashion trends with classic items. For instance, I like pairing Levi's denim and casual sneakers with a Saint Laurent blazer. As details are crucial for men's clothes, the overall outfit is often impacted by details such as perfect length and sleeves.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Chapter 2 of BTS' journey, Kim YounJin has been part of many of the members solo projects that were even released post enlistment for some, such as j-hope LV campaign and styling for Esquire Magazine
Tumblr media Tumblr media
👤Do you have a favourite brand or designer?
“I’ve always loved Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci, which has had a huge impact on me as a stylist. I have such respect for a person who has accomplished what they’ve wanted to do for a long time — I think Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons are both great in that regard too.”
Tumblr media
“I’m 32, so I was in elementary and middle school in the 1990s, which was when I started getting into fashion. Since I was really young, like 10 years old, I used to go downtown to buy clothes by myself. In elementary school, I wore baggy sweatshirts and jeans like this Balenciaga ensemble. I liked hip-hop and K-pop even back then and would dress up like this and dance at school festivals. Retro fashion is back in style, so it doesn’t at all look out of place or time to dress like this again.”

THIS DAY IN GAY HISTORY
based on: The White Crane Institute's 'Gay Wisdom', Gay Birthdays, Gay For Today, Famous GLBT, glbt-Gay Encylopedia, Today in Gay History, Wikipedia, and more … March 23
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
1653 – In New Haven Colony, six teenage males are sentenced to be flogged for "wickedness in a filthy corrupting way with one another."
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
1874 – J.C. Leyendecker, German-American commercial artist, born (d.1951); A highly popular American illustrator of Dutch ancestry, Leyendecker was born in Germany and emigrated to the United States at the age of eight in 1882 with his parents, his sister, Augusta, and two brothers, Francis Xavier "Frank" Leyendecker, and Adolph Leyendecker.
Tumblr media
Arrow Collar Man
J.C. Leyendecker was one of the most successful and recognizable commercial artists of the 20th century, best known, perhaps as the creator of the sleekly handsome Arrow Collar Man. Almost seven decades after the height of his vogue, the Arrow Collar Man still appeals. Blond, classically handsome, patrician, somewhat aloof, probably a bit of a shit, he is definitely more interested in himself than he is in any of the beautiful women pictured with him. When he first appeared in magazine ads, the Arrow Collar people received carloads of fan letters from adoring women eager to discover the identity of the sexy artist's model. Some proposed marriage. Little did they know that the Arrow Collar Man was the artist's lover, Charles Beach, blond, handsome, patrician, and vain.
Tumblr media
1932 Olympic Rowing Champs
Over forty years, Leyendecker illustrated covers for the enormously popular Saturday Evening Post. In total, he produced over 300 illustrations for the magazine. The mainstream image of Santa Claus as a jolly fat man in a red fur- trimmed coat was popularized by Leyendecker, as was the image of the New Year Baby. Also notable is Leyendecker's illustration of the Three Kings, from the Christmas 1900 edition of the Saturday Evening Post and the one above honoring the 1932 Olympic Champions U.S. Rowing Team.
Tumblr media
Leyendecker drew propaganda posters during WWI, encouraging people to buy war bonds. But what could be more deliberately homoerotic than his recruiting poster for the U.S. Navy with its semi-naked men and the phallus symbolism of the cannon and the shell, not to mention the line "These men have COME ACROSS."
In 1914 the Leyendecker brothers built an estate in New Rochelle, NY, where they, their sister, and Charles Beach, lived. Leyendecker was the chief influence on, and a friend of Norman Rockwell, who was a pallbearer at Leyendecker's funeral in 1951. Leyendecker was elected to the Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame in 1977.

1903 – Frank Sargeson (d.1982) was the pen name of Norris Frank Davey. He is considered one of New Zealand's foremost short story writers. Like Katherine Mansfield, Sargeson helped to put New Zealand literature on the world map.
Born in Hamilton, Sargeson has been credited with introducing New Zealand English into short stories. His technique was to write the story without mentioning the setting. He also used a semi-articulate style which means that the story was written from a naive point of view. Events are simply told but are not explained.
Although Sargeson became known for his literary depiction of the laconic and unsophisticated New Zealand male, his upbringing had in fact been middle-class comfortable. Upon completing his training as a solicitor, he spent two years in the United Kingdom. Sometime in the 1930s, he began living year-round in his parents' holiday cottage in Takapuna, a northern suburb of Auckland. He eventually inherited the property which became for several decades an important gathering place for Auckland's bohemia and literati.
When author Janet Frame was released in 1955 from eight years of voluntary incarceration in New Zealand psychiatric hospitals, Sargeson invited her to stay in a former army hut on his property. He introduced her to other writers and affirmed her literary vocation and encouraged her to adopt good working habits. She lived in the shed for about a year, during which time she wrote her first novel, Owls Do Cry.
During the 1930s and 40s, Sargeson experienced considerable economic hardship, as his literary output earned him very little money. This experience left him permanently sympathetic to the Left. For example, he quietly advocated closer relations between New Zealand and Maoist China.
He was also gay at a time when sodomy was illegal in New Zealand. In 1929, he was arrested on a morals charge in Wellington, but later acquitted. His biographer believes that this trial explains why Sargeson adopted a pen name and never practised the profession for which he had trained.
Sargeson died in Auckland.

1923 – Georgina Somerset (d.2013) was a British dentist and former Royal Navy officer. She was the first openly intersex person in the United Kingdom.
Somerset was born on 23 March 1923 in Purley and christened George Edwin Turtle. Her birth was registered outside of the usual time limit because of confusion as to her sex. Ultimately, the obstetricians decided to assign her male. She was educated at Purley High School for Boys, a grammar school in Croydon and Reigate Grammar School, an all-boys free school. She went on to study dentistry at King's College Hospital, London, and qualified in 1944.
As a newly qualified dentist, Somerset was called up to the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve as the Second World War was coming to an end. She was promoted to temporary surgeon-lieutenant on 27 March 1946 with seniority from 21 September 1945. She left the military in 1948.Upon returning to civilian life, she established a dental practice in Croydon, London. In early 1960, she sold this practice and moved to Hove, East Sussex, where she ran another dental practice until retiring in 1985. Somerset wrote two books: Over The Sex Border published in 1963 and her memoir A Girl Called Georgina published in 1992.
Somerset's father was a Freemason and initiated both his sons into the Craft in 1945. She rose to become Worshipful Master of her Lodge but resigned from the craft in 1953. Having felt female from a young age, Somerset underwent gender confirming surgery in January 1957. She had previously been rejected by the eminent plastic surgeon Sir Harold Gillies, as she had turned up to her appointment in male morning dress. In 1960, after sworn testimony from her doctors, she was given a new birth certificate with her chosen name of Georgina Carol Turtle and her sex as female.
In June 1962, her engagement to Christopher Somerset, distantly related to the Duke of Beaufort, was announced in the Court and Social page of The Daily Telegraph. They married in St Margaret's, Westminster, London, in October 1962. This made her the first known woman to marry in a church after officially changing sex.
Georgina Somerset died on 30 November 2013, aged 90.

1956 – Steven Saylor is an American author of historical novels. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied history and Classics.
Saylor's best-known work is his Roma Sub Rosa series, set in ancient Rome. The novels' hero is a detective named Gordianus the Finder, active during the time of Sulla, Cicero, Julius Caesar, and Cleopatra. Outside this crime novel series, Saylor has also written two epic-length historical novels about the city of Rome, Roma and Empire. His work has been published in 21 languages.
In the early 1980s, following a move to San Francisco, Saylor became an editor at Drummer magazine, a popular gay S/M publication at the time. He explained in a later interview that the erotic fiction he wrote in his twenties emphasized the seriousness with which he undertook the task, stating, "I probably did more actual rewriting on those stories than anything I've done since, because for me, writing erotic fiction is like writing a piece of music, because if one note is wrong, you lose the audience."
Saylor has also written two novels set in Texas. A Twist at the End, featuring O. Henry, is set in Austin in the 1880s and based on real-life serial murders and trials (the case of the so-called Servant Girl Annihilator). Have You Seen Dawn? is a contemporary thriller set in a fictional Texas town, Amethyst, based on Saylor's hometown, Goldthwaite, Texas.
Saylor contributed autobiographical essays to three anthologies of gay writing edited by John Preston, Hometowns, A Member of the Family, and Friends and Lovers, and prior to his novel-writing career he published gay erotic fiction under the pen name Aaron Travis.
Saylor has lived with Richard Solomon since 1976; they registered as domestic partners in San Francisco in 1991 and later dissolved that partnership in order to legally marry in October 2008. The couple split their time between Berkeley, California, and Austin, Texas.

Tumblr media
1960 – Terry Sweeney is an American writer, comedian and actor. He started identifying himself as gay as early as the fourth grade. Sweeney is best known for his appearances as a regular cast member of Saturday Night Live (SNL) during that program's 1985-86 season. He was discovered by Lorne Michaels while Sweeney was performing in a New York play, Banned in France in 1983.
Sweeney was SNL's first openly gay cast member; He was "out" prior to being hired as a cast member. His run on the show came at a time when there were few openly gay characters or actors on television. For roughly 27 years, there were no other openly gay cast members on SNL, until Kate McKinnonwas added to the cast in April 2012. However, as of 2012, no other gay males (out or otherwise) besides Terry Sweeney have been cast members on SNL.
During his season on SNL, he became known for his celebrity impersonations, particularly female impersonations of stars like Diana Ross, Patti LaBelle, Joan Collins, Brooke Shields's mother Teri Shields, and Joan Rivers, as well as Ted Kennedy (the only male celebrity he impersonated). His most notable recurring character was a portrayal of then-First Lady Nancy Reagan.
While at SNL, he faced many hardships from both the writers and cast because of his sexuality, especially from Chevy Chase. Sweeney was told by Ron Reagan, who hosted one of that season's episodes, that he was "more like his [Reagan's] mother than she is."
Terry Sweeney's partner is Lanier Laney, a comedy writer who also wrote for SNL in the 1985-1986 season. According to a 2000 magazine article, they met during a sketch called the "Bess Truman Players". Laney and Sweeney were also writing partners for Saturday Night Live during the 1985-1986 season, the movie Shag, and the Sci-Fi Channel cartoon Tripping The Rift.

Tumblr media
1962 – Openly gay Marc Cherry is an American writer and producer. He is best known for being the creator of the show Desperate Housewives.
After graduating from high School, Cherry attended California State University, to study theatre and initially considered a career in performance. He decided to move to Hollywood and pursue writing work. His move came at a bad time; the 1988 writer's strike hit as soon as Cherry arrived.
In 1990, he became a writer and producer for the long-running hit sitcom The Golden Girls. He later created Some of My Best Friends a 2001 sitcom that was based in part on the film Kiss Me, Guido.
In 2002, a conversation with his mother inspired him to develop a show about the fractured lives of four upper middle class suburban women. After HBO, FOX, CBS, NBC, Showtime, and Lifetime Television all passed on the show, Cherry got his big break when his agent was arrested and went to jail for embezzlement. His new agents brought the show to ABC, which decided to pick it up. The series, Desperate Housewives, was an immediate ratings smash and generated enormous national (and subsequently, international) debate. Cherry received several lucrative offers from various parties, but chose to sign a long-term deal with Touchstone, since their network had shown faith in Desperate Housewives when no one else would.
He says he added the gay couple to the script to underline the growing "normality" of having gay neighbors.
Desperate Housewives continued to be popular for seven more seasons and Cherry took more of a back seat during its eight and final season.
Cherry has been described as a 'somewhat conservative gay Republican and was the recipient of the Log Cabin Republicans American Visibility Award in 2006. Cherry was described in an article about him in Newsweek as a "somewhat conservative, gay Republican."

Tumblr media
1978 – Mario Armando Lavandeira, Jr., better known as Perez Hilton (a play on "Paris Hilton"), is an American blogger and television personality. His blog, Perezhilton.com (formerly PageSixSixSix.com), is known for posts covering gossip items about celebrities. His blog has garnered negative attention for its attitude, its outing of alleged closeted celebrities, and its role in the increasing coverage of celebrities in all forms of media.
On his blog, Hilton is open about his homosexuality and about his desire to "out" those who he claims are closeted gay celebrities. When former 'N Sync member Lance Bass officially came out as gay on July 26, 2006, Hilton received criticism for having been partially responsible in the outing. "It upsets me that people think what I'm doing is a bad thing," Hilton told Access Hollywood. "I don't think it's a bad thing. If you know something to be a fact, why not report it? Why is that still taboo?" On November 2, 2006, another celebrity often questioned by Hilton for remaining closeted, actor Neil Patrick Harris, revealed that he is gay.
Prominent members of the gay community who have criticized Hilton's outing tactics include Arts & Entertainment Editor of The Advocate Corey Scholibo, AfterElton.com editor Michael Jensen, and Damon Romine, spokesperson for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. Kim Ficera, contributing writer for AfterEllen.com, wrote,
"I have to question the character of a man who attacks others on such deeply personal levels, without provocation and for self-benefit, monetary or otherwise...If he's emotionally incapable of exhibiting even the tiniest bit of compassion for closeted people, if he can't be sensitive to the fact that coming out is a very personal decision and that the process can be difficult for some — especially celebrities — I feel sorry for him. If his juvenile behavior is his shtick, I think it makes him a much more pathetic figure, and one the gay and lesbian community should not support....If we support behavior like Hilton's, we applaud shallowness, arrogance, rage and invasion of privacy, and risk becoming what we despise."
Some of Hilton's fellow gossip bloggers have also objected to his approach. Author, screenwriter, and former friend Japhy Grant has also questioned his motives, writing on Salon.com, "Spreading gossip is just your average pedestrian variety of immorality. Claiming that you're doing it to further civil rights is an outright sham."
When questioned on Midweek Politics about whether reporting on celebrities' sexual orientation incites homophobia by making it news, Hilton indicated that he did not believe so. He said that coming out in Hollywood is not necessarily a bad thing, citing Ellen DeGeneres and Rosie O'Donnell as examples:
"I know there is some controversy about outing people, but I also believe the only way we're gonna have change is with visibility. And if I have to drag some people screaming out of the closet, then I will. I think that lots of celebrities have an archaic fear that being gay will hurt their career but look at Rosie. Look at Ellen."
Some prominent gay rights advocates disagree. GLAAD spokesperson Damon Romine told Salon.com,
"Media speculation about a celebrity's orientation is not something we support. This kind of gossip can lead some people to the decision to come out, as we've seen recently, or it may drive others further into the closet. People are going to become more guarded and secretive and not less, because they don't want to create any opportunities [for anyone to out them]."
Actor Bruce Vilanch said, "What purpose does it serve? These [people like Perez] are professional homosexuals. They are gay people for a living. They have to respect the rights of homosexuals who aren't professional." In an article entitled "Just How Dangerous is Perez Hilton?", AfterElton.com suggested that Hilton's actions put people's careers at risk, because anti-gay bias is still a prominent part of American culture. He continued, "Both as a gay man and a journalist, I question whether the gay community should approve of Hilton's actions.... Being associated with someone who publishes photos of panty-less starlets and scribbles dirty notes...makes us look infantile and ridiculous."

A sleeping giant.
The months of Jimin’s absence are finally revealing what he’s been up to.
Tumblr media
From the W Korea article:
"Jimin begins to leap in the air on a sizable mattress surrounded by flowers, bouncing up and falling backwards countless times; every movement he makes recalls his graceful performance onstage; Jimin, who studied dance at an arts high school, doesn’t simply jump. Instead, he rises and appears to float in the air for an instant. The camera captures the fleeting seconds of his flight...
...Jimin casts a giant’s shadow on a large backdrop."
Tumblr media
The hoi polloi (actually most were people who are more wealthy than we are and were invited to this fashion shindig) were getting pushed out of the way so Jimin could enter the building. MOVE OUT OF THE WAY PEASANTS, ROYALTY IS COMING THROUGH!
Tumblr media
Commanding without even being conscious of it.
Tumblr media
As I was browsing Getty Images, I noticed a lot of the other guests posing for the cameras as they arrived...trying to get their moment in the flashing cameras... and there were a lot of special guests from the fashion and entertainment industries. And all Jimin wanted to do is get the heck inside the building ...fuck posing, where’s my Hobi-ah?
I could talk about the actual fashion show but I'm not sure if anyone is interested. All eyes are on Jimin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I should probably know who that shaggy white guy is sitting behind them but I could care less... but he sure was trying to figure out who those two young men in front of him were...
Tumblr media
If I may, a few of my thoughts on this particular Dior menswear collection is that the silhouettes were so voluminous... shapeless really... especially the pants. They were like that in the Louis Vuitton show as well. Not a fan of billowy, wide-leg pants on men (you know how I feel about tight pants...I’m sure I’ve mentioned it a time or two). There were a lot of skirt/skort/kilt pleated type bottoms. Lots of tweed. Beautifully draping fabrics as usual. Flowy thingy details. And those rubber boots. The sounds those had to have made as the models strode around the backdrop to the narration of whatever that was ... The vibe was outdoorsy (which is what we know the summer collection was inspired by) and the ambience was... well... British country? Hoity toity quail hunting? With a dash of impracticality? Those flowy thingys are sure to get all muddy as you drag them behind you walking through that bog.
However, there were a few pieces that stood out for me because of the texture and silhouette:
Tumblr media
That ribbed sweatery texture looks very cozy and luxurious.
Tumblr media
The tweed (or pattern) is classic and that jacket and pants look like something that could be tailored well for Jimin. I could see Jimin wearing either of those pieces. The bucket hats were sort of oversized (Jungkook would love them).
I love that Hobi attended the Dior show and was able to be a familiar face for Jimin. It made me feel better that he was there.
Tumblr media
I can imagine Hobi oohing and aahing as the models went by... and Jimin trying not to giggle at him (being at his core ‘my goofy friend in sweatpants who loves soju…’) and Hobi is decked out head to toe in Dior as well.
Tumblr media
Between the Dior show coverage and the WKorea magazine article, my poor brain is overwhelmed.
I wonder if Dior is aware of the unicorn it scored at its Menswear Fall ‘23 show... the presence of Jimin AND Hobi.... no other fashion house may ever get that lucky.
Tumblr media
And now the Vibe making-of video.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I commented not too long ago about when I thought the Vibe MV had been filmed and my guess was late August...and I was WRONG WRONG WRONG! Lo and behold! in the Vibe making video! Jimin's hair is blonde! under that beanie! when he and Taeyang are prepping for the video! The only time we've seen a hint of blonde Jimin was Jin's enlistment day DECEMBER 13!. Look closely, blonde hair peeking out from under Jimin’s beanie:
Tumblr media
This little Vibe making video also showed me the friendship between Jimin and Taeyang and knowing that Jimin was influenced in his youth by Taeyang makes me understand more clearly why Jimin is not afraid and wants to be naked for us:
Tumblr media
So I am here to thank Taeyang for that.

what is Lady Jessica's type?
In thralls, she likes them to be classically attractive, like models, so that she can dress them up in the latest fashions she sees in magazines. This is why she's always getting bored with and replacing thralls, when they don't match current trends any more. (And god forbid she have an old thrall.) She primarily takes female thralls for this reason.
In romantic relationships... still classically attractive, but with a more even split between men and women. Much like her behavior with the thralls, she prefers short flings with superficially attractive people. She has on-again off-again relationships with a number of vampires.
A particular love for her is long, flowing hair that she can play with and style.

NEVILLE BRODY -- Industria and Insignia
English graphic designer and typographer Neville Brody (b. 1957) is noted for his record cover designs and for his work for the culture magazine The Face, the men’s magazine Arena, and the London magazine City Limits. Brody’s typographic style uses aesthetic elements from Art Deco and non-European influences. His graphic language has become an international model for computer-oriented design. Among his earliest fonts are Industria and Insignia.
Industria was originally designed for The Face in 1984 and released as a font by Linotype in 1989. Industria is a condensed  san serif face with abbreviated, essential forms. It has a systematized mechanical structure of straight stroke with rounded outer corners and rectangular counter-spaces. It’s possible that you might recognize the font as it was used for the logo of The X-Files and is currently used for the logotype of the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team.
Insignia was originally designed as a headline face for Arena magazine in 1986 and released as a font by Linotype in 1989. It has the basic forms of constructed Grotesque fonts and was influenced by the New Typography of the Bauhaus from the 1930s.
These images come from the 2005 book Creative Type: A Sourcebook of Classic and Contemporary Letterforms by Cees W. de Jong, Alston W. Purvis, and Friedrich Friedl, and published by Thames & Hudson.

Remembering OldIzNew... and Gloria Dawn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gloria Dawn is a classic men's magazine model that was active in the early sixties. She began posing in early 1962 working with many of the top photographers of the day like Peter Gowland, Ron Vogel, Elmer Batters and Keith Bernard. After a busy couple of years she retired from modeling at the end of 1963 and enrolled in college in 1965, getting her PhD from McDill in 1971.
Gloria worked with OldIzNew to get the colorization of her photos right. The first pic above is by Elmer Batters.
Gloria has her own site at https://gloriadawn.wordpress.com/ providing her own photos and recounting her days as a model. Unfortunately, while the site is still up, updates stopped in January of 2020.

Broadway Magazine page showing the beautiful Evelyn Nesbit, born Florence Evelyn Nesbit (1884 or 1885 – 1967): Born in a small town near Pittsburgh and later building her life in New York City, Evelyn helped financially support her family after her father died when she was age 10. Naturally blessed with classic beauty, Evelyn Nesbit had a promising future in the arts. She started out as an artists' model and chorus girl before venturing into acting in theatrical performances in New York City.
Evelyn Nesbit suffered from the abuse, torment, and manipulation at the hands of more socially and financially powerful individuals such as her husband Harry Kendall Thaw and early benefactor Stanford White. The two men loathed and mistrusted one another, while Thaw sought to take revenge on Stanford White. Evelyn later became entangled in the circumstances of the sensational murder of Stanford White after the bitter Harry Kendall Thaw shot him dead at Madison Square Garden's rooftop theater in 1906.
Regardless of these tragic circumstances, Evelyn Nesbit lives on as a muse of the Edwardian Era, embodying a beautiful, swanlike, and youthful vision for the time period's "Gibson Girl" aesthetic.
In the later part of her life in 1955, Evelyn Nesbit assisted with the production of the 1955 film The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing, based on her tragic experiences with Mr. Thaw and Mr. White which exploded into the sensational murder of Mr. White. Evelyn Nesbit courageously assisted with the film's production, shedding light on her traumatic experiences.

Two blogs I follow for wonder and mystery are:
- One that I think doesn't post anymore, but it was all fantasy art of sexy ladies. They ranged from art of actual historical value, to respected pop art ala Moebius and Milo Manara, to really, really trashy airbrushed superhero portraits with heavily defined cameltoes and their tits out and everything. The blog's unifying characteristic, besides horniness toward imaginary women, was this intense humorlessness; like there wasn't a shred of irony or even cheeky fun to any of this, the whole stream felt deadly serious--making it an arena of bad taste the likes of which I have rarely experienced, and I loved to wade in there just because it was so alien to me.
- A blog that just posts photographs of women, that has such a bizarre atmosphere, let me see if I can even describe it. The women are of all ages and origins, and they range from professional athletes, to artists, to politicians, to intellectuals...they are mostly public figures (not that I recognize many of them! Many seem to be Scandinavian or Eastern European?), and all of the pictures seem to have been taken for professional purposes. Specifically, they are almost all headshots, or otherwise the kind of sterile, straightforward thing you might use for an author photo or your business website, with the subject in front of a neutral background smiling neutrally into the camera. This gives the blog a slightly uncanny sensation, as if you were in a corporate office thumbing through a portfolio of Women the way you might browse different forms of wealth management accounts. Occasionally the photos are of an anonymous person, like someone modeling folk costumes, and sometimes they are erotic, sourced from vintage men's magazines. Once in a while the female image is actually a classical painting, or an old pinup. This minority content modifies the tone of the blog just enough to give one the idea that the blogger might experience all of the images as erotic on some level, even though so many of them look like brochure portraits of bankers or real estate agents. The name of the blog doesn't add context--it has an oddly spiritual or religious connotation (and I will tell you if you DM me, I don't want to risk bothering this person)--but the whole production gives me a strong feeling of looking through the eyes of someone I don't entirely understand. This is a sensation I enjoy.

Cover me in Diamonds
Based on @iinoruu ‘s art of the Miya Twins from the new Cartier campaign.
Pairing: model!miya twins x photographer!reader
Tumblr media
“The Miya twins were first discovered straight out of their high school graduation. Apparently an agent was a family friend of another student attending the ceremony who absolutely terrified their mother at first meeting her: she was taking photos of her son and asking classmates to take some of her with her boys when he had approached her. Despite scaring her, he backed up his claim of being a talent scout via handing her a business card. Her sons were debating—more like arguing—whether or not they should give the agency the stranger represented.
Well, that was close to six years ago and the rest, as they say in the west, is history. The fresh twinning faces graced indie brand companies as well as being breakout new models for high end designers. Everyone in the business wanted to work with either Miya Atsumu or his brother, Miya Osamu. If you could book them together? You’d be the diamond gem of your haus. It’s even rumored that Miya Atsumu, in his spare time still teaches kids volleyball, and though he doesn’t play as often, his friends still made him an honorary jersey for the division club: MSBY. Alas, if you liked the gentle, yet firm side of men, you’d probably be describing Miya Osamu. Since being a model, this Miya has been seen endorsing local food spots all around Hyogo. Until he had announced a year and a half ago he would be taking a break to pursue the culinary arts and boy did he excel. Sure, modeling career is what the twins were known for, however, they never forgot their passions before they were famous.
As for their mom? She enjoys living in the countryside nowadays, teasing her boys about the latest dating rumor of all the Billy Jeans that stop by their home town claiming their child was sired by either of her boys. Yet, she thanks them for adding to their family house by remodeling it from the base up. The old tiles and their height charts are still right outside the boys—young men now— rooms. Mama Miya is said to prefer her original jeans and white shirt looks, but of course she doesn’t mind wearing the earrings from Tiffany’s Osamu got her for Christmas two seasons ago and the Burberry sunglasses with matching ascot from the vintage rebranding line shipped first class from Atsumu either.
To their core, the Miya family has done an excellent job of restoring and retelling the dream of the cult classic rags to riches,”— the editor reads the most updated and popular take of the article which your desk had written.
The editor smiles, humming their approval before asking you, your opinion.
“You went to the same high school as them, did you not?”
With as loud as the bullpen is at a high end and we’ll respected magazine, the utter silence astounds you. No one, and you made sure absolutely no one, knew of this. You went so far as to beg your roommate to change your home city to match a different one than your ID card. The ears around you were quietly demanding you to answer and alas you tilt your head to the side about to confirm or deny.
“I did,” you say this clear as a bell.
The bullpen erupts with shouts and questions so obnoxiously personal you thought they were paparazzi! These were your colleagues for almost five years (one of those years being a break from university art school) post collegiate graduation and now they treat you like a god amongst the people because you actually knew the Miya twins prior to their ticket to fame. You refrain from telling anyone else that you are related to the now deceased agent, your uncle, who discovered them.
The five o’clock chimes were going off when the office finally thins out with you promising, more like ‘voluntold’ to finish more stories about high school with the famous models. You’re always one of the last ones out of the building because you head to the photographer labs. Your craft, your signature pieces, your one of a kind print portfolio is there. Turning on the lights, you place your personal belongings down and pinch the bridge of your nose after you take a deep breath and scream into a pillow from your photographer neighbor on the exhale to muffle it.
“I wasn’t popular, not by a long shot,” you mutter closing your eyes. You move to straighten your back lest you want to be permanently C-shaped and you are greeted by a photo the last photographer editor did for a Cartier campaign. It was a test shot no one thought would do well, but you remember being on set that day…
It was the first day of summer. The warehouse aircon was busted, the ring lights were overheating, the foiled umbrellas weren’t cooperating and you just had to see your old lab partner and the guy who tutored you in American Modern English walk in.
You claim you’d never forgive your uncle for signing them, however you changed your tune when you noticed two very distinct kanji writings of your name. Miya Atsumu would always round out the last line with a little bird (sometimes a butterfly) where as his brother, Miya Osamu, would make little onigiris living under the dash line of your hyphenated name. You thought nothing of it until much recently: did they-could they-have remembered you? All shy and temperamental. Kind of weirded out the other interns, but to your surprise one day during a lunch break later on during this particular shoot, you heard Atsumu and Osamu talking.
“YN-chan got really cute,” the blonde says, stuffing his face with a half a ham sandwich. “Hey, remember when she was my lab partner and she scolded me for ruining her notes?”
“Because you were an asshole and left the Bunsen burner turned on way too high,” Osamu said, a chortle trying to not come out.
Atsumu sticks his tongue out. “At least I wasn’t the one who kept feeding her half my lunch because she burned her rolled eggs that morning before your tutoring session in the library!”
“At least I wasn’t t’one who couldn’t ask her to take a photo with us on graduation!”
“We didn’t even thank her for her uncle’s business card,” Osamu’s voice was serious. “Remember when mom said she didn’t have to worry anymore about making payments for our house after we got our offer letters? She was really struggling then and between jobs…”
Atsumu laughs. “We’d never seen so many 0s after a number! Even with scholarship money…”
You stand a few feet away taking test shots of what seemed to be the brick wall behind them, and you purposefully took it with them out of focus. You took four shots on your Canon DSL using 35mm film: two out of focus, and two off-center of the boys in focus. Without telling anyone, you later submitted those to a contest for the fashion magazine editorial hence why you work where you do now. The photo is widely spread online as one of the first sneak peaks into Cartier’s line for men.
Presently, while you are still agitated at the bullpen scene, you put away the developers and head home. You’re not close to the two twin stars, yet when the photographer for the next campaign shoot calls your editor’s office saying the model refuse to work with him, the photographer tells your boss the Miyas demand you take their photos:
“No buts,” your editor air quotes this to you when you’re pulled into their office. The bullpen, rather the other fashion journalists press their ears to the thick glass as you get your things together, and in a voice of finality, you choose no one else to go with you.
You pack your camera, an overnight bag when you get home, and the company car is there within an hour of seven thirty. The ride to Narita Airport, you replay everything from the last four hours of your life because my god was it a whirlwind and whiplash all at once:
Editor in Chief & Photographer Editor in Chief Office
“Congratulations YN, you’re heading to New York on a red eye flight,” is all your editor tells you with this smug look.
“I’m sorry, what?!”
The photographer editor in chief replays the message for you to hear. Atsumu and Osamu are heard arguing about how they’d only do the shoot if they get to work with you. The photographer’s assistant is on the line asking if you’re still working at the Tokyo branch of the same magazine the Cartier campaign would debut in Asia. Behind there assistant you hear Atsumu’s thunderous voice say, “without yn’s 35mm shots of us no one would take us seriously!”
The call drops and the editor in chief spreads out the various versions of your brick wall campaign test shots. The most famous one? It’s odd Atsumu and Osamu laughing nonchalantly showing of the earrings and pendant necklaces in the sunlight.
“This image, it literally launched their career and you took it anonymously! Why didn’t you say anything then?” The editor asks you.
You brush as few bangs behind your ear, “because no one would think to ask a ‘crappy intern’ to sign off on using the image, so I published it independently…” you pick up one of the blurred images.
“I landed the job here a few months after fashion week a year ago after submitting my portfolio of exclusive 35mm prints to your mailboxes…so when do I leave for NYC?”
Fourteen and a half hours later, exhausted and packing lightly for a two week trip to the United States was not easy, but when JFK shuts down half a gate so you can bypass the paparazzi, you wonder just what else the wealthy can do. You entertain the idea until you roll your photopgrahy carry on luggage and look up to see two very eager friends from your adolescence run toward you with open arms.
It’s been a year since that New York Trip. You’re in Seoul now, a solo trip that was much warranted by a certain mischievous silver haired twin’s immediate threat of, “if you won’t ask yn, I will” scenario one pre-breakfast photoshoot with his brother.
“And what about ya, huh?” Atsumu asked before taking his phone out about to text you if you had wanted to go try to visit Seoul in the spring. “Ya liked yn first…”
Osamu flicks his brother’s forehead first, “Yeah, Tsumu. That may be true, but yer the one who loved yn more.”
The blonde makes a face at his brother scowling muttering why he had to be born a twin and why couldn’t Osamu tease him later about his personal life.
“We got yn to come to New York, what’s stopping ya from sending that text? Lemme see yer phone.”
And in the midst of the brotherly struggle, Atsumu accidentally had his thumb press and slide to send, much to his horror, you reply two seconds later (ok, you replied a few minutes later)…
“Yn w-wants to go,” he said snatching his phone from his brother’s hand.
Atsumu plops down on the couch in the latest studio they are in for Calvin Klein Jeans. Osamu, mirthfully laughs, saying something or other about maybe hiring you to be the mystery woman covered in Cartier diamonds in a retro bathtub for the jeweler’s summer line as they offer you champagne on a silver tray. Atsumu excuses himself from the couch, conveniently hiding both his reddening cheeks and the one bodily reaction he’s sure no one can edit properly…
Oh, and as for you, you finally come forward as the photographer behind the amazing shot that helped boost your old classmates’ careers. You did let your employer interview you via podcast format and the transcription copies flew off the shelves. Your photographs were displayed as the editorial for the winter line the year the newer Cartier line was announced to the public. Finally, in the midst of the chaos of your name being synonymous with helping the Miya twins rise to fame, the most classiest photo of you with the boys (decked head to toe in sleek Alexender McQueen suits and Louis Vuitton shoes) is framed and hung up next to the altar for your late uncle in your house.
So, yes, you find yourself in Seoul, walking side by side with a now ash blonde Atsumu, who waits for you to stop updating his brother about the cool sights you saw via text because when you do hit ‘send,’ Atsumu is just about ready to confess a lifetime’s worth of love with a simple kiss—one he’s discovered is worth its weight in diamonds.

WEEK 5: MALE MAGAZINE COVER
Tumblr media
1st Attempt
This was my first time creating a magazine cover and it was done by following the directions of Mr. Maizul. I learned how to put guides in an easy and time-saving manner. Every step also had it's own later. Then after downloading the Vogue font I was able to place the "must head" title along with lead article line, and two different cover lines. Then after rasterize type on the musthead title layer and adjusting the opacity to see the model's hair. Then after tracing the hair outline with the polygonal lasso tool I was able to create the effect so the model is overlapping the musthead title. Then after putting the magazine deck and date & issue information beneath the title and placing the barcode, my first magazine cover was complete.
Tumblr media
2nd Attempt
Using inspiration from NYLON magazine, I really admire their colour contrasts with their model's outfit. So i found a fun photo of this model and decided to follow the colour scheme to his blouse. Using the quick selection tool I traced out my model and put a gradient background underneath to have a type of cool subtle sunset effect. I really like the colours on this cover and even thought it isn't a "manly" layout, it symbolises a changing culture of neutral gender norms and killing stereotypes that men cannot wear certain colours.
Tumblr media
3rd Attempt
Using this model's photo from the references page on openlearning, I created a classic Rolling Stone cover. Rolling Stone font I found online. I set a linear black and white gradient for the background. And since the model's picture wouldn't fit the entire page I had to improvise and place a black rectangle on the bottom portion of his shirt, luckily it's only a black plain shirt so it easily blends in.
Tumblr media
4th Attempt
Searched the font for Cosmopolitan magazine and it's in Franklin Gothic Extra Condensed. Found this cool photo of Zendaya and did the same technique as the previous covers with her hand on top of the masthead title.
