🌸 - Blood Sweat and Tears- 🍑
Please discuss the aesthetics of “Blood Sweat & Tears” MV:
Tumblr media
Whoo boy if this isn’t the big one for aesthetics + analysis.
I could literally write an academic paper the size of my thesis on this MV cause there is SO MUCH GOING ON TO DISCUSS, so please indulge me with this post cause it’s going to be a bit much. I’m going to put a ‘read more’ link cause lets be honest, this bitch is long....
RELIGIOUS ICONOGRAPHY
The religious aesthetic is everywhere within BST, especially Christian religious imagery. You can see this in the paintings featured; primarily the Pieter Bruegel 1562 work that is shown at the start (Not a Hieonymous Bosch as I first thought but clearly meant to suggest one) which is called “The Fall of the Rebel Angels”.
Tumblr media
This painting could easily explain the rest of the MV’s narrative (a war between the ‘rebel angels’ that are BTS but also a personal war for each member - such as we later see in Fake Love?) and we see multiple mentions and representations of angels or the angelic:
Tumblr media
Seokjin’s multiple interactions with angel statues/paintings demonstrate this theme, plus his interactions with V who of course, is actually dressed as an angel:
Tumblr media
Referencing fallen angels is really quite an easy trope to use when you’re trying to make a sexually suggestive music video because angels and sexuality, esp. fallen angels, have a long history together. Angels of course are designed as beings of pure beauty, as they traditionally live nearest to their god/s, so fallen angels are beautiful or holy things that have transgressed, or ‘fallen’ in some other way, which when you link BST to later videos by BTS, like Fake Love, makes a lot of sense.
Tumblr media
As well as the fallen angel narratives you have the Hoseok/Apollo imagery which does an interesting bit of religious iconographic layering by superimposing Classical religious references (so the reference to Apollo made in the fact that Hoseok has a golden bow as well as his general positioning), in front of Christian iconography (the reproduction of Michelangelo’s Pieta he’s standing in front of). Notice as well as the golden bow his throne is golden too, an item that is referenced in multiple religious traditions.
Tumblr media
Apollo was a god linked to multiple domains (god of music, god of the sun....), as well as being known primarily for his youthful beauty. Apollo had multiple lovers (of multiple genders) and was also known as a sexually greedy god, stalking his lovers so much that... ya know, they had to turn into trees to avoid him:
Tumblr media
THE GOTHIC: EXCESS AND VICES
Tumblr media
I can’t do a post about aesthetics and NOT mention the heavy handed Gothic styling at work within this MV. For one, @feedmeramyun would lose her mind. “But the GOTHIC in it!!!” She’s not wrong though, the entire MV has Gothic styling used to suggest excess, wealth, (the paintings, decor) a specific time/style era (via the Military dress as well as the use of brocade, heavy embroidery), specific vices which are already linked with Gothic media (absinthe/opium) as well as just well, looking hella gothic/being slightly creepy.
There is a lot to unpack as it’s not just the styling but also the story/narrative...its just, all so gothic.
Tumblr media
Absinthe is not necessarily a ‘Gothic vice’ but it is featured in several Gothic films and is more importantly connected to the larger Gothic setting of the Opium den - which is what I think is actually being suggested here via the colored smoke paired with the clothing and general Neo-Victorian/steampunk troping.
Tumblr media
BONUS: ABSINTHE & THE GOTHIC MV
vimeo
I think my point here about the linking of absinthe and gothic aesthetics is also a good joining point between that idea and the idea that Blood Sweat & Tears owes a lot to the look, styling and sexual feel of other gothic MVs, such as this legendary Mark Romanek directed Nine Inch Nails music video, “A Perfect Drug” (1997). The shots of Namjoon seem particularly close in comparison, but there is also the flashing green light (in BST’s case it’s pink), the Gothic manor styling, the looking at art, the suggestion of choking, strangulation mixed with sexual innuendo and lyrics.... and yes many of us did want to fuck Trent after that video.
MASCULINITY VIA CAMERA ANGLES
Masculinity can often be expressed by where the camera is, with people shot from above looking more vulnerable (and therefore coded as feminine) and people shot from below looking more empowered (and therefore coded as masculine - bullshit, I know).
BST is mainly shot on a level with the eye-line (keeps it sexy!) but you can see a bit of vertical emphasis in how Namjoon is filmed...
Tumblr media
For example, the way the camera is slightly below (or directly on) Namjoon’s eye-line for his sexually suggestive shots:
Tumblr media
and above him for shots like these (of the smoke/absinthe); which I read as being about temptation or ‘deviant’ behaviour/vices that can tempt you/make you transgress:
Tumblr media
(There’s a load of symmetrical framing used in this MV - symmetry is known to be very visually pleasing, as well as being quite arresting when the POV character ‘breaks the forth wall’ and looks directly into the lens)
Tumblr media
Also note that Suga is also shot from below which works to make his previously-effeminate styling look a little more masculine. As he and Namjoon both represent the ‘older line’ of BTS (Namjoon, Hoseok, Seokjin & Suga) it makes sense that they’re both filmed in this way rather than the overtly vulnerable/sexual way the younger members are.
Tumblr media
SEXUAL IMAGERY: BURGEONING SEXUALITY
There is clearly LOADS of sexual imagery in BST (why do you think its my favorite after all?) but here’s a few moments highlighted:
Tumblr media
V’s sexual sequence is made up of these sheet shots and it’s a common aesthetic choice when trying to depict both innocence and awakening sexuality. He’s still out of reach of the viewer (read: unobtainable) but you can see through the transparent fabric so he’s close... like a temptation.
Tumblr media
There’s also the idea of burgeoning (or young/new) sexuality in Jungkook’s shots as he is both sexually styled (he’s on a sex swing and he’s upside down - so therefore readable as vulnerable), as well as being symbolically linked to youthfulness via the lollipop. (I mean the swing can also just be a child's swing but its indoors for godssakes)
So perhaps this is what I’d call the maknae spotlight - a shot that reminds you that the person featured is the maknae and that they are a bit off limits (not to be confused with the maknae-coming-of-age shot where they’re overtly sexualised - think Sehun in Lotto).
A good example of a recent maknae spotlight would be this shot of Haechan from the Regular MV:
Tumblr media
You can see (or look AT) him but he’s obstructed/kept from view. He’s looking towards someone/something, so he’s “looking” or being an active object, but he’s not sexualised or available to the viewer. Classic ‘keep your hands off the maknae’ shot.
The swing for Jungkook gives you elements of that - he’s swinging out of reach but is also temptingly close, however unlike Haechan’s shot this version is much further along the line of age/sexuality and is quite suggestive - especially when compounded with this later shot:
Tumblr media
This is because Jungkook’s focus is on the viewer, there’s nothing obstructing him, he’s stable (on the ground) and being provocative (the finger in the mouth). I think I near about died when I first saw this shot. Its a definite come-hither shot.
BLINDFOLDS, VULNERABILITY AND TRANSGRESSIVE SEXUALITY
Tumblr media
One of the other big sexual references within BST is the INSANE FOCUS ON BLINDFOLDING. It should come as no surprise that most of this is expressed through Jimin, because boy is a sub, and how its paired with the military/masculine/Gothic styling of Suga,I mean we shouldn’t be surprised they’re paired together but that’s a whole other post, but it is interesting that BTS went along with something so... er, overt.
It makes me think that this was designed as the ‘ok so we need to do a really SEXUAL video and here it is, Yoonmin porn and all’. All of these specific aesthetics and more importantly THE COMBINATION OF THEM TOGETHER (religion + transgression + temptation + sexuality + gothic) is what makes this video so sexy to watch!
Tumblr media
Blindness is (sadly) coded as vulnerable in semiotics (the study of visual representations) and so when Jimin is repeatedly being blindfolded it suggests vulnerability but also a willingness to be made vulnerable.
The fact that he does it to himself as well as ‘visually shows consent’ to it being done to him, and that there’s such a focus on his reactions... I mean.... If you’re still going to argue that’s not sexual suggestion I don’t really know how you got this far in my blog. Let’s not mention he’s holding an apple in these shots...
Tumblr media
The choreo for BST also simulates a blindfold multiple times, but the fact that this movement can also be read as a ‘don’t want to look’ gesture is interesting, considering what the rest of choreo is doing...
FINALLY: OVERT SEXUALITY
Tumblr media
I really hope y’all were paying attention to the words for these bits cause if you want the MV explained Hobi does it all for you with 1) that ‘uncontrollable’ solo choreo he does in his verses and 2) with the freaking lyrics  jesus christ.
I don’t care if it hurts, tie me up So I can’t run away Grab me tightly and shake me So I can’t snap out of it
Tumblr media
and then Suga’s verse:
Kiss me on the lips lips, Our own little secret I wanna be addicted to your prison So I can’t serve anyone that’s not you Even though I know, I drink the poisonous Holy Grail
This is legit an MV/song just about wanting something desperately, fighting with it, struggling with temptation and then finally giving in and enjoying it to excess. Nothing explains that more simply that the main choreo for the song which includes all the elements hinted at with the aesthetics: temptation, desire, frustration and ‘falling from heaven’ and finally sexual enjoyment and excess.
Tumblr media
BOUND ROUND: THE CHOKING MOVE
Tumblr media
The choke move is especially suggestive of transgressive sexuality in media as S&M gestures are used as a sign of ‘dangerous’ sexuality, or sex that isn’t, ya know, boring/vanilla or sex outside the norm. So its very rarely used except in media when the creators are trying to either overtly signal sex, or sexiness, or if they are trying to establish characters as having what they consider ‘dangerous’ sexuality.
Nearly all the members do one of these choke shots, either by holding their own neck, choking themselves, readjusting collars/ties, or wearing chokers that highlight the neck....
Tumblr media
I just figured,
Tumblr media
You wouldn’t mind,
Tumblr media
Me highlighting this fact in gifs...
Tumblr media
The fact that the choke move on V is such a big highlight of the stage version of the choreo is... ya know, also a thing.
Tumblr media
Well there you have it, me talking about the pretty shit in BST. I hope you liked it, I hope you finished it, and I hope you enjoyed the gifs. I know I did. 😘

Bitcoin is Dragging Other Cryptocurrencies Down as Correlation Between Them Increases
The increasingly high positive correlation between Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies is bringing their prices down, now that the tide has turned against Bitcoin since the spectacular rally towards the $20,000 area in mid-December 2017.
With a market capitalization of $111 billion, the BTC continues to recoup the cryptocurrency market dominance it once had.
Correlation Between Bitcoin and Altcoins at 0.7, Up from 0.1 in Early 2018
Correlation amongst assets is the degree to which they move in tandem.
A value close to zero reveals not much dependence between them. This tends to be the case between digital currencies and the stock market. Correlation values range between -1 (returns move in opposite directions) and +1 (returns move in the same direction). However, cryptocurrencies usually present values corresponding to strong positive relationship (0.5 – 1) and moderate positive relationship (0.3 – 0.5).
The 90-day Pearson coefficient show extremely high correlations between Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash (0.88), Litecoin (0.86), Ethereum (0.83), NEM (0.83), Zcash (0.82), Monero (0.82), Ripple (0.78), Stellar Lumens (0.78), Siacoin (0.77), Nxt (0.76), Dash (0.69), Lisk (0.68), Ethereum Classic (0.6), and Augur (0.55), according to the cryptocurrency correlation matrix by Sifr Data.
The ties between Bitcoin and these altcoins have led to significant damage in their market valuation in 2018. As the BTC moved throughout the year from its $20,000 peak to approximately $6,500, where it currently stands, Bitcoin Cash plunged from $3,400 to the $500 line.
Litecoin fell from $366 to $56. Ethereum dropped from $1,377 to $218. NEM crashed to $0.10 down from $1.90. Zcash declined from $888 to $127. Monero fell from $494 to $112. Ripple dived from $339 to as low as $0.29 as the cryptocurrencies continually print new lows in 2018.
The strong positive relationship between Bitcoin and altcoins prices wasn’t always a given. Correlation between Bitcoin and MVIS CryptoCompare indexes of the 10 biggest and the 100 smaller coins has jumped to 0.7 from lower than 0.1 at the start of the year. The highest correlation this year was found in April, where it went as high as 0.9 in April, virtually mimicking each other in a bearish momentum.
The 90-day Pearson rolling correlation also shows an interesting behavior as Bitcoin Cash moves higher from the third place (0.79) to become the digital currency with the strongest positive correlation against Bitcoin (0.88).
Ethereum, which was in the lead 90 days ago with a coefficient of 0.90, dropped gradually to the second place (0.83). Ripple also made a downward trajectory during the last three months, easing from 0.84 to 0.78.
The number of digital assets available for trading in the cryptocurrency market has increased continually, completely disregarding this year’s downward slope in volumes traded – $31 billion on January 01, 2018 to $13 billion today – and market capitalization – $613 billion on January 01, 2018 to $203 billion today.
There are now 1,926 cryptocurrencies being traded in 13,727 exchanges around the world, according to CoinMarketCap, but BTC dominance keeps rising.

HOW HOLLYWOOD DOES IT - FILM HISTORY & TECHNIQUES: ANIMATION
This program looks at animation, a style of filmmaking that gained popularity during the silent era of the 1920s and has remained extremely popular from the 1930s to the present day. Animation still remains a labor-intensive and time-intensive process as the artists and crafts people behind contemporary animated programming are still essentially applying the same processes as the early animation pioneers, holds and cycles and synchronization. This program includes two practical animated tutorials as well as some classical animation from the early 1900s.

HOW HOLLYWOOD DOES IT - FILM HISTORY & TECHNIQUES: CINEMATOGRAPHY
Cinematography looks at what a camera operator is responsible for and how they make the decisions to create the look the director desires. This segment will focus on cinematography, or camera work and how this tool helps in the creation of the story. The role of the camera operator, or cinematographer, can be highly artistic while simultaneously requiring significant scientific and technical knowledge to be performed well. From the birth of motion pictures in the 1890s to the talkies of the late 1920s, cinematography was of paramount importance to successful narrative, since in the absence of dialogue to record, footsteps or closing doors to anticipate, or music to incorporate, the camera could capture the moving image only. In the first decade of motion pictures, the role of the cinematographer or camera operator and director were one and the same, but as cinema evolved, the duties of the director and cinematographer diverged. In this program we review Academy Award winner, James Wong Howe, who pioneered dollying and handheld camera techniques as well as the use of unconventional light sources. We take a look at his 1938 film Algiers, which earned Howe his first Academy nomination for Best Cinematography, focusing on the moving camerawork.

HOW HOLLYWOOD DOES IT - FILM HISTORY & TECHNIQUES: DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKING
Documentary talks about some of the different styles of documentary filmmaking from the birth of cinema to the present day. It is a multi-part look at the history, techniques, movements, and people who create the magic that we call motion pictures. Todays program will talk about a style of filmmaking outside of the normal fiction or narrative films that we as audience members are used to seeing, that is, documentary filmmaking. With the birth of cinema in the 1890s, spearheaded by America's Thomas Edison and Frances Louis and Auguste Lumiere, filmmaking progressed in two directions. Edison brought his subjects before a stationary camera to his tarpaper-covered studio called the Black Maria built at West Orange, New Jersey partly because the camera required multiple people to move it. While Edison was bringing people to the Black Maria to have a pie, the Lumiere brothers created the cinematographe. The resulting camera mobility allowed people to go out into the world and both document events and project films. Included are a number of clips from classic documentary films. Features the 1934 documentary Song of Ceylon, 1935 British film Housing Problems, the 1936 film The Plow that Broke the Plainsand, 1938's film The River, 'Why We Fight' and the 1944 film, The Battle of San Pietro.

HOW HOLLYWOOD DOES IT - FILM HISTORY & TECHNIQUES: EARLY CINEMA
This program looks at the very birth of cinema in the late 1800s through the talkies in 1928. It is a multi-part look at the history, techniques, movements and people who created the magic that we call motion pictures. The dawn of the moving image began early in the 19th century with the discovery that a surface treated with a photo-sensitive emulsion would reveal an image when exposed to light. These first photos, or tintypes, were crude forms of photography improved upon by the creation of more flexible photo-sensitive material, or film, which resulted in better still photographic images. Photographic images whose subjects were photographed in slightly different positions could be flipped in rapid succession to create the illusion of subjects in motion. George Eastman, of Eastman-Kodak fame, created a celluloid film stock that could be wound on a reel, resulting in the first actual example of moving images on film. Experiments in the 1890s by W.K.L. Dickson and William Heise, under the auspices of the Thomas Edison Company, resulted in the invention of the Kinetograph, a vertical feed camera which exposed film and had a row of sprockets on each side of the celluloid strip, much like our conventional 35 mm film today. Featured are early films from Thomas Edison, The Lumiere Brothers and George Melies.

HOW HOLLYWOOD DOES IT - FILM HISTORY & TECHNIQUES: EDITING
This program focus on editing and how this process helps tell the story in a motion picture. The editing process follows some simple steps: takes the raw footage from the camera after it is developed, select the shots and combines them into sequences which will themselves be combined to create an entire motion picture. Completing these steps sounds easy enough, but in reality, editing a film extends beyond arranging shots into a completed project. Deciding which shots to use and their length requires creativity and discernment. Editing is sometimes described as an invisible art, because if the editor performs their job well, the audience, never notice the cuts. We are simply engaged in the story. Editing discusses how a film is cut to create the story we see on the screen. This program features a long take, from the 1950 film Cyrano de Bergerac, Establishing shot, from the 1937 film A Star is Born, A point of view shot, when the camera replaces the eye of the character and we see exactly what the character sees - the opening of Naked Kiss from 1964 and cutting on action, from John Houston's 1954 film Beat the Devil.

HOW HOLLYWOOD DOES IT - FILM HISTORY & TECHNIQUES: GENRE
Film genre, or the classification of film into categories is based upon designated characteristics that distinguish one film from another. Genre explores what characteristics indicate a film genre like horror, musical, Western and comedy and how viewers understand the story put before them. They remain a useful way to categorize and distinguish most films, so that audiences know what to expect. Most film critics agree on ten film genres: action-adventure, comedy, costume films, epics, horror, musical, science fiction and fantasy, suspense, war, and the western. This program discusses the following films and the genre of each - Angel and the Badman, The Road to Bali, Royal Wedding, My Man Godfrey and The Big Combo.

HOW HOLLYWOOD DOES IT - FILM HISTORY & TECHNIQUES: INTERNATIONAL CINEMA
How Hollywood Does It is a look at the history, techniques, movements and people who create the magic of motion pictures. In this program we go global, or look at global cinema. While American cinema has had a wide-spread influence on world popular cultures almost from the beginning, many other nations have had significant national film traditions that have also had an influence. But, rather than provide a panoramic view of each national cinema, we are going to concentrate on some of the most influential world film movements and filmmakers since the beginning of cinema. Includes some of the major foreign film movements, such as Italian Neo-Realism and French New Wave. Hosted by Jeffrey Hill and Mark A. Graves - Jeffrey Hill is an associate professor at Morehead State University, Department of Communication, Media and Leadership Studies. Dr. Mark Graves is an associate professor of English.

HOW HOLLYWOOD DOES IT - FILM HISTORY & TECHNIQUES: LIGHTING
This program focus on lighting and how a cinematographer and lighting engineer work together to showcase what is put before the camera. Lighting is a crucial component to filmmaking because it enables the director to say, Look here, not there, or to light up an entire scene so we can peruse what's in the film's frame. Without light we are left with this 'LIGHTS OFF' nothing. We need light to see the film and we need lighting engineers to handle and control the lighting so the director can attain the look they want. Quite often what makes an average production exceptional is the lighting. This program discusses what tools are used to create different lighting set-ups and uses a number of examples to illustrate how this important element is decided. Lighting design falls into two categories, High-Key lighting and Low-Key lighting. High-Key lighting provides relatively bright, even illumination of the film frame or scene, the kind the director and producer of a big-scale musical productions may choose to showcase 60 dancers and 20 chorus singers and their elaborate costumes. Low-key lighting is focused lighting with strong contrast. Low-key lighting creates fast fall-off, which means that the image goes from light to dark very quickly, falling off into shadows or darkness. Low-key lighting works well in horror films, or any film in which a director wishes to create suspense or keep you guessing what is in the dark, inky shadows on the outskirts of the frame. This program discusses the following films and the lighting of each Royal Wedding (musical) the scene is brightly lit throughout in both, wide and medium shots. Night of the Living Dead (horror) to enhance the suspense, the lighting creates shadows which heighten the mystery. Flying Deuces (comedy) like a musical, relies on a high-key lighting set-up, eliminating almost all shadows.

HOW HOLLYWOOD DOES IT - FILM HISTORY & TECHNIQUES: MISE-EN-SCENE
Mise-en-scene looks at how filmmakers make decisions about what is put before the camera. It includes costumes, props, set design, positioning of actors and much more. Mise en scene is a term that refers to all visual elements that appear within each frame of a motion picture. Without various features of mise en scene, a moving picture would consist of only a series of flickering black or light-infused frames, since even a colored screen would provide visual information that some might consider an element of mise en scene. A French phrase which translates roughly as placed on stage, Mise-en-scene is a broad concept often difficult to define for film because it only exists when considering a combination of elements within the frame or camera's eye. Basically, anything to be filmed the setting, the costumes and make-up, the movement, facial expression, and position of actors on screen, and some elements of lighting is considered mise en scene. The concept of mise en scene for film shares a lot with theater production in that props, sets and blocking of actors are all deliberately chosen for particular effects, although the physical space of the stage and theater often limit or dictate how mise en scene is perceived by an audience. Features the Western, Angel and the Badman, silent film, Caligari, costuming Cyrano de Bergerac and lighting (an air of mystery) Film Noir.

HOW HOLLYWOOD DOES IT - FILM HISTORY & TECHNIQUES: SOUND
Sound investigates the various types of sound, how they are recorded, and how they are incorporated in a film. Besides the visuals in moving pictures, sound also contributes to part of those magical effects. This program will focus on sound design and how life can be breathed into a project through the use of carefully selected and carefully placed sounds. When we think about or talk about them, we can categorize all sounds into one of three categories: dialogue or voice, music, and sound effects. Sound effects can be sounds that occur naturally within the film itself or sounds that add to the overall impact that the film presents. Music is quite often not part of the film itself, but a musical track that adds to the mood of the film. Both music and sound effects are usually classified as either diegetic or non-diegetic sounds. Simply put, non-diegetic sounds are those which do not occur within the film, while diegetic sounds occur inside of the film's action. This program features diegetic and non-diegetic music in the 1950 film D-O-A Atmospheric sound known as foleying in Meet John Doe and manufactured sound elements (suspenseful mood music, a ray gun emission, the whirling of flying spaceships) in the 1953 Killers From Outer Space.

6 short films by the Robert Todd.
Having made over 60 films over the past two decades, Robert Todd has a mastery of 16mm filmmaking that eschews categorization. AS I WAS MOVING AHEAD OCCASIONALLY I SAW BRIEF GLIMPSES OF BEAUTY
By Jonas Mekas
"As I Was Moving Ahead... is a record of subtle feelings, emotions, daily joys of people as recorded in the voices, faces and small everyday activities of people I have met, or lived with, or observed -- something that I have been recording for many years. This, as opposed to the spectacular, entertaining, sensational, dramatic activities which dominate much of contemporary filmmaking.
The film is not conceived as a documentary film, however. It follows a tradition established by modern film poets. I am interested in intensifying the fleeting moments of reality by a personal way of filming and structuring my material. A lot of importance is being given to color, movement, rhythm and structure -- all very essential to the subject matter I am pursuing." - Jonas Mekas
"As I Was Moving Ahead... serves not just as a meditation on the nature of cinema, beauty, and time, but also as a monument to the bonds of family and friends. Mekas' diaries have always quivered with the tensions between past and present. This one, created by an artist soon to enter his eighth decade, finds a secret paradise in the rich harvests of a lifetime's memories." - Village Voice

DIARY
By David Perlov
"May 1973, I buy a camera. I want to start filming, by myself and for myself. Profesionnal cinema does no longer attract me. To look for something else. I want to approach the everyday. Above all in anonymity. It takes time to learn how to do it." With these words, David Perlov starts his epic film Diary. Shot over a period of three decades, first on 16mm and later on video (Updated Diary, 1990-1999), it is considered today the most striking work in Israeli documentary filmmaking. - Ariel Schweitzer, Cahiers du Cinema

JURGEN REBLE - PASSION AND DAS GOLDENE TOR
"PASSION is a personal film-journey in which Reble accompanies his unborn child through a ritual, following the seasons until his birth. Reble's unfamiliar chemistry generates slowly pulsating structures and colors. Micro- and macroscopic imagery build a near-abstract, hypnotic landscape -- an intimate perception of creation..."
Jurgen Reble, former member of the German filmmaking group "Schmelzdahin" (dissolved in 1989), focuses on exploring the film material through bacterial processes, weathering and chemical treatment during and after development.
"The basic idea is that it is impossible to fix film. Film is something which is always in a state of flux... The images, "real" in the beginning, gradually disintegrate and the gelatine layer -- where the chemicals are embedded -- dissolves. All that's left in the end is the 'raging of the elements'..." MARCEL HANOUN - L'AUTOMNE
A film from Marcel Hanoun's Saisons tetralogy
"L'Automne transforms filmmaking, usually an art form based on movement, into an art of immobility; an anti-cinema, for those who expect punch-ups, car chases or western stampedes; an alternative cinema, for those who realize that the apparent immobility of L'Automne is not immobility at all. The intensity of those two pairs of eyes, watching - those eyes most definitely know how to see. We can see them. We can tell, from the look in those eyes, that we are witnessing the most absorbing stage in the creation of a film - the point at which everything is still to be defined and all questions can still be asked." - Jean Louis Bory, Le Nouvel Observateur

The crypto bear market has been felt by many. From traders to miners, the fall in prices has led many to lose a significant amount of money. The fall in prices has also impacted companies and projects: GigaWatt has filed for bankruptcy, ETCDEV - an Ethereum Classic team has shut down, and many others are facing challenges times.
Institutions have regularly been cited as a potential end to the bear market, yet ICE's Bakkt has delayed the launch of their Bitcoin settled futures until January 24th '˜19 and the SEC continues to either delay their decision or deny every application for an ETF. Only yesterday, the VanEck application, the remaining open application was delayed until February, the deadline for deciding on the application.
Jay Clayton, Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, recently spoke at Consensus: Invest about ETFs, highlighting his and the concerns of others within the SEC. All do not share these concerns, Commissioner Peirce dissented in response to the rejection of the Winklevoss denied application and spoke to The What Bitcoin Did Podcast about her concerns that the SEC is overstepping their mandate, stating 'œBy precluding approval of cryptocurrency-based ETPs for the foreseeable future, the Commission is engaging in merit regulation.'
Gabor Gurbacs, Director, Digital Assets Strategy at VanEck/MVIS shares Hester's frustration, telling me that America wants a Bitcoin ETF and that a Bitcoin ETF faces a higher bar than other markets. In this interview, we discuss the VanEck application, why market manipulation is not unique to Bitcoin and the unfair standards by which the SEC treats Bitcoin.

Homework 3 character cast
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Task: Analyse 3 character casts (film, tv, game) using the following principles ● Audience ● Shape language ● Silhouette ● Asymmetr.
This is my first character cast pick as it one of my favourite movies to watch and was really excited when it came out again for there nuber two. First character i want to look at is voilet as her chacater appeal to young teenage girls as at ages in school we mainlky want to be able to hide away andhide the emotions that we are faced with and for to have power like that it makes us as the audinece be this way i defeineltty did when i was young watch this movie and being that age. her shape is stranage as her head is a lot bigger than her bod, and her eye are big so is makes her look more inasont and applelaong to look at where as her bidy is really slim and dies really have a share to it reason why her head become her main feature to look when watching. her silhotte however is quiet reconginseable as she is not a character than can normal been drawn ans she was kind of the disney starting point with small bidies and big head but with her they make it more noticebale.
Dash
Audience
- he is meant for the young biy genaterion between the ages of i woukd say 6-11 years old as being him would be like every dream as in orimary school i it always the chanllenage to be the fast biy in the year grouo so this is classic explain of a biys ideal hero.
Shape language
-dash frame is quiet small interms of the way that it looks and the way that he moves across the mvies where his body is smaller thn his which infind i quiet a recorging theme in the movie as making the bidy smaller makes it seem the head bigger makes the chacarter have important in my eye and in the way that they move.
Silhouette
-Due to his statue in figure dashes chacater seem to stand quiet tall and long in frame making him a chacater that stand out compare to the family.the way the hair folds over the head makes it look like the like it him from a desting which makes him stand out.
Asymmetry
- With him his forhead seem to have the bigger sepaterion interms of facial feature and have smaller eye compared to the rest if the cast. fitting in with the rest of the boas thiu his headdy it makes it seems like as if the head is the amin focus point, and the rest if the bidy shapong is normal for a boy his age he is casted age which us 7-8 years old.
Mr Incredible
Audience
- he is like the dads dream bidy tyoe and the way to be for his families as father are seen as to be the strong person thats support the family which makes him seem quiet stand out and a yiung boys dream look for when he gets older.
Shape language
- he seem to have a traingle top half and a rectangle bottom half of him making it seem unrealtics in terms of the way that he stand like it shoukdnt be possible for him to be this way. However that what makes him as a cahacter si ‘incebile’ in the way that he looks. and the rest of his body seem to be desgin in the rrst in circles.
Silhouette
- His figure does make him stand out so a chacater desgin it is really sucessful as anyine that see him can notice that it is Mr Incdeble. the areas that does give him away his a shoulder and head and the body is not potion to the rest of it which make it so weird look at.
Asymmetry
- the shape on him as very diffrent but if yiu was to cut him in half he dies seem to be quiet constant in the way he is and looks across the movie and the ways that he moves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ricky
Audience
-the aimed audience fir this piece is for teenages as these days most teenage do still enjoy cartoons and this one has a lot of adult hummor in it he is meant to be like the grandpa everyone wants for a granadad and wants to grow up to be.
Shape language
- His design is weird as he soft line edged and hard edges with his hair it seems to come up all over the place abd seem to be like if yiu touch it iy would hurt. where as his facial feature are quite round and in them selves and make he seem that more enjoyabe friendindly character.
Silhouette
- His figure is quite noticeable in the way his hair, science coat and thin bidy des give him away in the way that looks which is why people will go for him a when talking him as he mores recognisable.
Asymmetry
- his share some seem to have a lot of symmetry in them like he is quiet a symmtry person but the only part about him that gives him away is his eye and they are just about fit on his head.
Monty
audience
-he has mire a child like personality and seem to come across quiet annoyingas in indivuial and is childish in the way that he dies act sometimes which is why i think that he would belong the era of younger teemger as he can make basic jokes or jokes that dont seem that funny to older audience (11-15).
shape language
-he has simialr type of body shape to ricky however he has purely all round feature which makes him look more incovoice so he look like the less likely to get into troubke that ricky withe pointy hair who does look like the person to get into trouble.
Silhouette
- as a figure his head gives himaway the mkst as a natural chacater he seem to have a standarad body and shape and nothing much to him but because the head is so big it does make him stand out.
Asymmetry
-he is quiet symmetry in the way that he look as huis whole tend to be contenst in size throughout unless ricky does some weird experiments on him which makes him change.
Summer Smith
Audience
-her is mainly aimed teenage girls and in the way that she acts can seem very and braty in a way which can amke her seem like the unlikable character sometimes but she dies repsence hiw they act.
Shape language
- she seem to have a round head and long rectangle like montry so it flows the familt treat in the way she follows through in her chacater, which makes her more believebke that they are reatreatable.
Silhouette
- she hasa stand body and nothing to say that is ‘special’ about her howve r the way her body is desgined with her family she carries the family way.
Asymmetry
- the shapong of her is all relatice but with this tv series the body and eye all seem to b ethe same and eye the eye the audience connect to more reason why it seems to be why there the way are. na dit has beem that the reason wny desginger do use big head and simple desgin as it make sthe auidence seem to the undertandind of the animation seriis.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gokun
-Audience
He based around to attract the young audience as is gives them a base of that what they want to be like so it is inspiration however I know if older males and all generation of people do find gokun a character that they find retable.
- Shape language
His frame in body is quiet different in they way it is all in porption however for his ages he is quiet muscles so he mainly made up of square and circle that I find which is interesting to condense into such a small person.
-Silhouettn
When standing with all the other chavater his outline is quite onverse of who he is as they isn’t another one like him in the show and even standing how as the traditional dragon ball form all chavater tins to have pointed shape hair.
-Asymmetry
His shaping does make symmetry but the way his eye are shaped they are quiet shapes in which is traditional anime style in the way that they sit.
Pimilco
-Audience
He is general for all ages I find as for younger he is seems as that cool chavater that everyone wants him to train them then to teenagers that like him for his style and the way he acts and for olderas for the way he is he is seen as the wise chavater.
- Shape language
He has quite a cyclones arms and legs and his body shape is made from rectangle and his head being circle as his build is a way for showing dominance in the piece of animation in the way that he is.
-Silhouette
From his costume and the say that he classic stand as his natural pose he can be easily found and seen from his figure of shape and he has a particular way that he looks that make him stand out.
-Asymmetry
His eye are a bit smaller than the rest of his body which does make much sense as it doesn’t match up however he does in the a way goes he makes him seem of a serious chavater.
Goko
-Audience
As him being the main chavater he is genera for everyone but for the young/teenage audience 8-19 as he is seen as the character that everyone is trying to be as he has the most Dominant and is the go to chavater.
- Shape language
He has quit a triangle based too half of the body and and rectangle shape of legs and these are both his shape in the way they are put together gives him that classic stand out figure.
-Silhouette
He is quite distinctive shaping but classic for his character as he meant to be strong chavater he has a simile look to say inscredike but they only things that sepates them is the hair.
-Asymmetry
He does seems to have anything asymmetry about him other than the fact of his eye but that the style that the create of the show has throughout and a typical style of manga so it doesn’t really stand out.

Bitcoin is Seeing More Transaction Volume Than Gold
Despite the sluggish price, the world’s most popular cryptocurrency has been settling more transaction volume than gold since Q2 2017.
Bitcoin Showing More Utility Than Gold
Bitcoin 00 is on track to clear more transaction volume than the global gold markets.

Interestingly enough, though, this is not a one-off event – it has been happening consistently since the second quarter of 2017 after the world’s first cryptocurrency hit ‘parity’ with the price of an ounce of gold in spring of last year.
It’s also worth noting that despite the serious hit Bitcoin took in 2018, it’s still outperforming the precious metal by a factor of two.
In less than a decade, Bitcoin is already showing it has more utility in the digital age than the precious metal that has been the de facto store of value for thousands of years.
Commonly Compared
This is far from being the first time when gold has been compared to the world’s largest cryptocurrency. John Pfeffer, serial entrepreneur and partner at Pfeffer Capital, said earlier this year that Bitcoin is the first viable replacement for gold.
The famous Winklevoss twins also made a strong statement in late 2017, saying:
Taking bitcoin in isolation… we believe bitcoin disrupts gold. We think it’s a better gold, if you look at the properties of money. And what makes gold gold? Scarcity. Bitcoin is actually fixed in supply so it’s better than scarce… it’s more portable, its fungible, it’s more durable. It sort of equals a better gold across the board.
The director of VanEck/MVIS also spoke highly of the cryptocurrency compared to gold, noting that:
Gold today has around $7 trillion outstanding. If you take, say, 5 to 10 percent — I’ll let everyone do the math — bitcoin has upside.
Meanwhile, at the time of writing this, all the top 20 cryptocurrencies but Ethereum Classic are trading in the green, according to CoinMarketCap. Bitcoin (BTC) 00 is recovering slightly after plunging under $6,000 earlier in the week.
