i have finally realized why the whole "neurotypical/neurodivergent" thing makes me so angry. and it's because it has, at this point, NO basis in reality.
the origins of the word neurotypical are in satire, and the term neurodiversity was proposed (seriously) as the other side of that satirical concept. but what matters is that all of this is in the context of autism specifically.
if you are using the term "typical" to mean simply "not autistic" then it is functional, and the prefix neuro makes sense because autism is a neurological disorder. and from what i have seen in the scientific literature, this seems to be the primary usage still.
what doesn't make sense is trying to expand the definition of "neurodiverse" or "neurodivergent" to include absolutely everything, at which point you've redefined "typical" to "an absence of any psychiatric, developmental, or cognitive diagnoses"
which still maybe would mean at least something, if "neurodiverse" wasn't rapidly expanding to include anyone who has ever felt nervous in their life
what this does is essentially hold up "typical" as this fake ideal that applies to absolutely no one, and is the reason people think blinking too fast is a sign you have trauma and having a favorite color means you have autism
but the whole thing is just ridiculous when you pull it out of its context because what most people are talking about are differences in cognition, not neurology. and if we were really talking about neurology then these discussions would include epileptics and people who get migraines
but we're not talking about neurology, we're talking about cognition. and cognition is a mess of a million factors with a million influences that interact in a million ways. there is no "cognitively typical"
realistically, there is barely even such a thing as "anatomically typical". anyone who's ever worked on cadavers will tell you that every single one is very different inside.
so to refer to a broad class of people, using a word that is unscientific and only has relevance in distinguishing autistic vs non-autistic populations, and mean that they "think the same" is completely asinine

caught my younger sibling walking around with numb hands for weeks like that was normal so PSA theres some weak evidence that the following are common in POTS:
B12 Deficiency
- characterized by numb (pins and needles) hands and feet, which is persistent for days no matter what position your limbs are in
- take dissolvable B12 tablets once daily by holding them under the tongue for a couple minutes
- ideally those should be the like 2000000% DV ones, since B12 is water-soluble and near impossible to take too much of
- B12 shots can be prescribed for very severe deficiencies
- if this doesn't go away in like a week, See Your Doctor! these are peripheral neuropathy symptoms and that's something 1000% worth checking out ASAP
Magnesium Deficiency
- characterized by a tight kind of muscle soreness (for some reason always in my calves) that doesn't go away with rest
- others report tremors or being unable to keep the legs still
- either take a supplement daily or epsom salt baths
- be warned that oral magnesium works as a laxative, so start low and work your way up
Vitamin D Deficiency
- can cause fatigue and the "seasonal depression" kind of mood
- this is just really common in the general population, not just in people with POTS
- oral supplementation works fine, most daily vitamins have it
- in more severe cases your doctor can prescribe higher dose supplements
Also if you keep getting these symptoms all the time or it doesn't go away within a couple days of supplements, you probably need to see a doctor

Tails and Nine can tecnobbable to their heart's content since they know each of the proper terminologies and understand the formulas that Mangey is starting to learn as well, on paper at least.
Sails doesn't bother.
He knows the practical side of tech and doesn't feel the need to write three books calculating the energy output and friction caused by a gear complex, or the bearing capacity of its hinges, he just makes it and if it holds up then that is that. He's also an absolute headache to get through and understand the slang he uses for everything.

Jewish Song of the Day #28: Arbeter Froyen
Comments:
Okay so this is not my usual thing, but huge shout-out @vaguelybinary for suggesting this one because it sent me down a super fascinating history rabbit hole.
This song's lyrics showcase a Yiddish poem-turned-class struggle song, and this is a modern adaptation of that song.
It also combines themes of socialist feminism with the ideals of the Yiddish Labour Bund.
Anyway, I haven't posted nearly enough klezmer and Daniel Kahn is the musical brilliance behind the Yiddish version of Cohen's Hallelujah.
(And I've also stayed pretty religious in my posts, with very few secular songs. To wit, I mostly do not listen to secular music, so this suggestion was especially helpful.)
So here you go! Enjoy some klezmer, Jewish history, and a fully contemporary message of solidarity with women as workers!
