modern interpretation of a classic of an author, whose name lead to the definition of ‘masochism’, through the portrait of a young man Severin who submits himself to Wanda. However, is it also a portrayal of the director, Roman Polanski himself?

Text
„Liebe ist Spiel, ist Non-Idealität; Liebe als Nicht-Spiel wäre tot. Das Leben der Liebe besteht darin, dass aus den partialen Trieben, Energien und Strategien nicht auf das geschlossen werden kann, wozu sie sich gefügt haben werden.”

Chamber of Flavour
A Freudian Experiment and Experience
In the first chamber, the work of an alchemist ist done, a hermetic baker. It is one of contemplation and not a work of hands, a work that leads you to be candid and honest, acknowledging no other guide but Truth. You may easily discover yourself, your preferences and your deepest hidden secrets about yourself.
Made from (your) recipes unending, Opposing substances agree (Goethe. Faust).
It is about Individuality (as an) awareness of one's existence as a unit in sharp distinction from others. (Zizek - Less Than Nothing)

Chamber of Taste
In the second chamber, eating bread and drinking wine are interminglings of bodies (Deleuze/Guattari - A Thousand Plateaus)
The food served is symbolism in edible form. What you eat forces you to speak of it, you have to overcome boundaries laid by society. Like Crime and insanity are extremes which the human mind in general has to overcome in the course of its development. Although not a factual necessity, madness is a formal possibility constitutive of human mind: it is something whose threat has to be overcome if we are to emerge as "normal" subjects, which means that "normality" can only arise as the overcoming of this threat. (Zizek - Less Than Nothing) And the same is true for our own sexual, emotional and instrumental relationships. The immorality we see in them as a couple, as humans, as a society in them, prevents us to look at them objectively. In a way, by taking a piece of cake and the memories rolling over you via taste, cast you out of your own judgment and that of others.

Chamber of Pas De Deux
Mirrors in rich gils occupy the panels between the pilaster, which, by reflecting the many beauties of the room, almost produce and effect of fairy enchantment. (The Mirror of Literature, Amusement and Instruction - John Timbs)

violence, life and death, desire, and sexuality will extend, below the level of representation, an immense expanse of shade which we are now attempting to recover, as far as we can, in our discourse, in our freedom, in our thought. (Foucault - The Order of Things)
The Poisoner and the Poisened dance their last dance, before the potion of truth taints their relations as spoiled. The taste turned from bitter to sweet, from sweet to bitter and back again. A careful rebalancing, a try to reinstate the hierarchies.

The Three Dispositions of Pain, Power and Enthrallment
Every experience, object and thing is filtered through the personality of each person experiencing it and is thus unique and different even for two people essentially experiencing the same thing
i. sexual disposition: bread
‘Anstatt all die infinitesimalen Gewaltsamkeiten gegen den Sex, alle wirren Blicke auf ihn und alle Hüllen, hinter denen man ihn unkenntlich macht, «der» einen großen Macht zuzuschreiben, soll die krebsartig wuchernde Produktion von Diskursen über den Sex in das Feld vielfältiger und beweglicher Machtbeziehungen getaucht werden.’ (Foucault - Der Wille zum Wissen)
violence and pleasure
submission and domination
identity (subject) and object
ii. emotional disposition: bitter sweet patisserie
pursuit and withdrawal
hostility and proximity
iii. instrumental disposition: poisoned wedding cake
isolation and caring
