Round 1 poll 26: Claudia Kishi from The Baby-Sitters Club vs Sophie Hatter from Howl's Moving Castle
Propaganda under the cut
Claudia Kishi:
she's an artist she's a DIY fashion icon she struggles with school she loves nancy drew mysteries she's a loyal friend!! the claudia kishi club documentary is a great watch that shows how impactful her character as an asian american girl who wasn't a stereotype at the time was really impt
Sophie Hatter:
i think tumblr already knows and loves sophie hatter
Sophie Hatter is absolutely iconic. She’s quiet and soft-spoken, but the moment she becomes and old lady she’s like, might as well fit the role, and instantly starts speaking her mind. She breaks into a wizard’s castle to become his cleaning lady, she pretends to be his mother, she expresses her feelings with weed killer. She can talk magic into things and doesn’t realize Howl is completely head over heels in love with her until he risks his life for her and they proceed to confess to each other by bickering like an old married couple. She’s also the epitome of an eldest sister and I based my entire personality off of her.

I think the main takeaway I had from reading some of the baby sitter’s club books as a kid was that I could hide candy in my room

Feminist Recommendation: The Babysitters Club
When a group of girls decide to start a babysitting business together in their home town of Stoneybrook, they find comfort, support and friendship in each other as they make it through middle school. Kristy Thomas is a headstrong 'tomboy' and a natural born leader. Mary Anne Spier is a shy girl with a love of musical theater and has an overbearing, protective father watching over her. Claudia Kishi is a creative fashionista who flunks out in the maths department of her schooling. Stacey McGill is the chic new girl from New York with a secret, and Dawn Schafer is a determined activist and loyal friend. With their creation of 'The Baby-Sitters Club' we see the five girls grow, as we follow individual stories of their babysitting ventures.

How Momona Tamada and Aya Furukawa didn't get a ton of awards for Claudia and the Sad Goodbye, I'll never know.

I think about the fact that one of my childhood friends remembers me being obbessed with reading. Remembers how many times I would go read instead of be with her.
This blog was created on the fact that nobody understands my love for reading. Reading created my home when I was 9 years old, reading Baby Sitters Club. Kristy, Claudia, Mary Anne, and Stacy (alongside Mallory, Jessi, Dawn, Logan, Shannon and Abby) (yes that was literally me trying to remember the book characters). Reading now continues to be my friend, gently tucking in my ideas as I lay to rest with the memory of Inej, Nina, Kaz, Wylan, Matthias, and Jesper.
