Claudie’s Collection: Spring Dress

I’m expanding my Claudie’s collection myself since AG hasn’t released anything for her since November (despite the fact that it’s Black History Month and Claudie is literally a black historical character >:( ). 

I did the embroidery by hand, and tried to make it look close to the dress in the middle.

I later cursed the fact that I made the conscious choice not to topstitch the pleats on her bodice.

Hello, everybody! Sorry I haven’t posted in a couple of months! Today on AGIG is Claudie Appreciation Day! Started by user superfundolls, today is a day to appreciate your Claudie doll in hopes that American Girl will promote her more! It really is a shame that she came out not even a month before those 25 new truly me dolls! :(

Let’s hope AG is able to promote this gorgeous doll more often in the future, as she is supposed to be getting more items at the end of this month! Also, I really hope they make more dolls with her ADORABLE face mold.💗💗

Funny story about this dress ... when Claudie was first announced I saved up a bunch of images that I suspected American Girl would use for items in her collection. Turns out I was right about this dress, too!

Welcome to my doll family, Miss Claudie Wells!

Both of Claudie's books, by Brit Bennett, are well-written and cover important history. I did not know about The Great Migration and the dangers that Black people faced throughout the South, especially before the Civil Rights movement, when I was in elementary school. I can understand it not feeling comfortable or fun to address this history, and I wish this history was not reality. But given that it is, we all have an obligation to confront it. The introduction through these books is appropriate for young readers, and they won't reach their teens or adulthood completely unaware.

I've also loved The Vanishing Half and The Mothers, novels for adults by Brit Bennett.

Claudie is a beautiful doll, and I look forward to making clothes for her and setting up scenes for her.

the second disney collab released today. i popped onto one of the many ag forums i'm member of...and, well:

who the fuck is estelle? i'm imagining you asking me this. humor me.

putting it quickly: there are a segment of collectors who, upon hearing about the release of claudie, created a "proper historical" based on american girl's original plan for their 1920s character.

good gossip, good leaks, bad vibes.

you've probably noticed that kit, before her relaunch, had a pretty bare bones collection. this is because she was supposed to be cubed. her replacement?

estelle, a 1920s gal who loved archeology and studied ancient egypt.

in fact, estelle was actually released. she was the blonde costco ballerina with the cerise ribbon released in 2021. and boy, did she get bought up real quick. it's this doll that the collectors are using to create their estelle. the "proper" 1920s gal.

here's an example of stunning creativity:

there's a difference between all your dolls switching eras and sharing clothes and buying the collection of black dolls for your self-created white dolls.
