i gotta come clean, i've never actually shipped them. like i understand why people do, and i don't mind them, and i'm able to see potential and make some little things for them now and then, but i feel no feelings for them whatsoever and i don't actually see them together as an actual thing idk i just can't imaging them even kiss if that whole rant makes any sense (wasn't in the ask, but same goes for virrow while i'm on it)

i'm trying to warm myself up for them but man this age gap... it's not so big of a deal for me when i ship two people before i think about their age or if their actual dynamic in canon just too fiery for me to worry about how inappropriate it would be irl, but if i don't hook up to a ship at first sign or cause of canon actions, i just can't to overcome this obstacle. so, i'm openminded, but since nothing in canon gives me fuel, fanon stuff can't impress me. but if something shipworthy will happen in upcoming seasons who knows...

this on the other hand.... with claudium i have such a story. i hated them at the beginning cause i thought it's lame to introduce main char's crash that started before the show did (i don't even know why, cause i'm pretty sure i actually don't have anything against established crushes), and i while i was thinking show would make them a thing i was going to hate it all the way through just for the sake of it i guess. but then show did 180 backflip and look at that, now i hate whole other couple and write angry essays in my mind why writers should have made claudium a thing and why they belong together and actually make much more sense and would be much better choices for each other

Matriculation (Fic)

Aaaand it’s another Bodyswap AU mini! Takes place before Ghost. This is a short one, but there’s a related follow-up in the works.

Couple additional setting notes:

Ezran sits on the throne as a proxy for Harrow, who is not prepared for public appearances yet, or maybe ever. It’s generally known that Harrow is alive and still actively ruling, but rumors abound about how grievously he was wounded or disfigured in the assassination attempt.

Claudia feels a lot less urgency about the weird elf in the mirror and tries a bunch of ways to communicate instead of leaping immediately to weird rituals.

Claudia hadn’t expected to find Callum behind the study door when she yanked it open. She’d been going in circles with the elf in the mirror for over an hour, writing out question after question on the slate and getting only smiles and shrugs in response. She knew he understood--she’d seen the flash of recognition in his eyes when she’d written the first time. So her temper was already fraying when the soft knock interrupted her.

“What are you doing here?” she demanded. The incredulous rudeness of her own tone brought her up short, and she winced. “Sorry, I didn’t mean it like that. I’m just surprised to see you.”

Callum’s big, warm eyes looked at her hopefully. “Is it good surprised? Or...”

She shook her head and smiled in spite of herself. “You’re always a good surprise. Come in.”

He stepped inside and looked around the room curiously. She’d thrown the cloth back over the mirror before opening the door, and the only other change she’d made to the study was the absence of the portrait. She’d taken it down into the sanctum and left it in one of the cells, facing it to the wall it leaned against. The space on the wall where it had hung was bare, a gaping wound not yet scarred over.

It still felt wrong to sit behind the desk, so she dragged a second chair in front of it. She sat in one and gestured for Callum to take the other.

“So, what’s going on?” she asked. “Something’s bothering you.”

He looked like he hadn’t been sleeping well--agitated and fidgety, his fingers moving along the piping at the seams of the chair arm and his eyes darting around the room. Claudia could relate to that.

“I’ve been thinking a lot,” Callum finally said. “About your dad. And about Ez.”

He stopped to glance at her, troubled. “It’s okay, take your time,” Claudia encouraged.

The ashes of her heart still felt a flicker of warmth for Callum. He had always been sweet, and sensitive, and funny--not to mention her only real friend. He’d withdrawn from her a bit, after--after everything, but she knew it wasn’t because he didn’t care. She hadn’t exactly been the warmest person lately, either.

“I’m no good at prince stuff,” he continued. “Fighting and riding and all that--everyone knows it.”

“Has Soren been going on at you about that again?” Claudia asked, her eyes narrowing. “I’ll fill his boots with--”

“What? No! No, that’s not it.” Callum waved his hands frantically, seeing the look on her face. “Soren’s fine. He’s great.”

Claudia hummed skeptically, but let the matter go.

Callum looked down, his hands unconsciously plucking at the hem of his scarf. “The thing is, I always kind of believed it would eventually somehow not matter anymore, and I wouldn’t have to be good at it. King Harrow--Dad always tells me Ezran will need me when he’s king, but I thought he was just being nice, you know? I mean, why would anyone ever need me? So whenever I thought about Ez being king, someday way off in the future... I wasn’t in the picture.

“But now, with him actually up there on the throne... even with Dad still doing all the real ruling, I can see that he will need someone. And I’m going to have to be the person he needs. I need to be for Ez what your dad was for mine.”

He looked back up at her. “So I I thought that, since you’re High Mage, now... maybe you could teach me magic?”

Claudia hesitated.

She had always known Callum would, on the surface, make a fantastic mage. He was far smarter than he realized, and just bookish enough to be studious while still retaining his inventiveness, and he had a memory unlike any she had ever seen, but--

She thought of the first time her father had taken her hand in his and set a wiggling caterpillar in her palm, then--gently but firmly--squeezed her fist tight around it. She didn’t even remember what kind of Xadian insect it had been, only the feeling--like air suddenly filling her lungs after being underwater for a long time--and the pride on her father’s face.

Callum was soft. It was one of the things she found cute about him, an innocence that part of her wanted to preserve, even as another part whispered to her how exciting it would be crush it.

Did he really know anything at all about the things her father had given for King Harrow? Did he have any idea what burdens her father had carried, what secrets he had kept--all for Harrow, and Katolis, and humanity? Claudia herself only knew a fraction of them, slivers that had slipped through brief windows of pain, and exhaustion, and despair.

And yet--when she was small, her father had told her that Dark mages had been there to protect humanity for a thousand years. That anyone who was willing to look all the things that threatened humans in the eye and say, “These are my people, and I will do anything to protect their future,” could be a Dark mage.

She looked at him carefully--his warm eyes, his soft mouth, the way his posture sometimes curled to keep him small and unnoticed. Callum would die for his brother, or at least believed he would, but there were things more difficult than self-sacrifice. She didn’t know if Callum could do them.

Without her, at least. If she was careful--

Claudia leaned toward him and smiled. “I thought you’d never ask.”

Not me basing my Raydia fankid on Korra 🙈 (Korra's body type, at least). The Claaravos fankid has long dark hair, so I guess Asami aesthetics? Sort of? I've been thinking about those two for a while and their interactions with my Rayllum fankid (from a different Rayla). The Raydia and Rayllum daughters have names but I still need to name the Claaravos daughter. There's also a Virayla son and he's from yet another Rayla xD then two versions of Rayllum son, Sorayla daughter, Calren son, Sorvus daughter and Ezris daughter. I think that's it, actually, unless I'm missing someone. Yes, I'm missing a Claudium kid. Anyway, they're all from a specific story that has many Raylas. It makes more sense in my head, I'm sorry.

100% agree about Callum crush on Claudia ending unceremoniously. Like its easy to understand why he lost interest in her, but I wish the show dived more into the fact that Claudia pretty much broke Callum heart in a million pieces. After all, it wasn't just that she was his crush but also close friend.

Since Femslash February starts tomorrow I looked into different TDP femslash ships and it was legit insane how popular Raydia (RaylaxClaudia) used to be when the seasons 1-2 came out?? Like I knew it was somewhat popular 'cause mutuals were really into it but I HAD NO IDEA it was this popular. I was watching the show in 2019 but I wasn't in the fandom so I totally missed out on the hype.

Seems like it had much more fan art than Claudium, too. Though who knows since Tumblr's search function is a joke.

Raydia and Kimditi are def my faves when it comes to femslash (also Lujanne and Opeli as a crackship) But I've never met a TDP fan who dislikes Rayla so that's hardly a revelation.

Margin of Error

The margin of error for this poll is 6,7%, which means that the results I got might not represent the whole fandom. Moreover, it can render some of the results statistically insignificant. Consider the following table with the results accounting for the margin of error:

See how while Terridia received 12 votes and, say, Soryx got only one, according to my results, not only is it impossible to say whether Terridia is more popular as a favorite ship than Soryx, both results, at the end of the day, become statistically insignificant. Then again, Terridia can potentially be as popular or even more popular than Ruthari, while Ruthari is more popular than any ship after Terridia.

You can see below how Rayllum is the only ship with a certain placement in ranking and the rest can move up or down. The lines that have two colors are of ships that could switch places with the color above and the color below. The table features ships that got at least 5 votes:

Here's what we can say with certainty about the shipping preferences of our fandom:

Rayllum is most people's favorite ship.

Viravos and Janaya are just as likely to be people's favorite ship as Ruthari but are more likely than the rest of the ships.

Ruthari is just as likely to be people's favorite ship as both Viravos and Janaya, as well as Claaravos, Sorvus, Virrow or Terridia, but more likely than the rest of the ships.

So, realistically speaking, the ranking looks like this

Rank 1: Rayllum Ranks 2 and 3: Viravos, Janaya or Ruthari (i.e. any of these three can be number 2 as their highest rank, and Viravos and Janaya are unlikely to fall lower than 4) Rank 4: Viravos, Janaya, Ruthari, Claaravos, Sorvus, Virrow or Terridia (if Viravos or Janya are here, it means Ruthari is #2 or 3 and the other ships are automatically pushed to #5 or lower) Ranks 5 and 6: Ruthari, Claaravos, Sorvus, Virrow, Terridia, Claudium, Pyrren, Raydia or the rest of the ships (if Ruthari is here, it means Claaravos, Sorvus, Virrow or Terridia are at #4) Ranks 7 to 12: all the ships starting Claaravos, Sorvus, Virrow and down.

Redistributing Polyship Votes

This one is tricky. Let's take Sorayllum as an example - some shippers will also ship Sorayla, Rayllum and Calren separately, some might only ship one or two of the three permutations, while others might only ship them as a trouple. However, if we assume, that a person who ships Sorayllum also ships the three couples that it implies, we can count a vote for Sorayllum as three separate votes, one for each couple it connects.

We had the following polyships (listed alphabetically):

The votes for these ships where redistributed to the couple ships they're comprised of, with an exception of the cases when a person voted for both a polyship and one of its mono ship components, e.g. a Sorayllum shipper who voted for both Sorayllum and Sorayla.

What we see is that changes are very small. Most ships that got extra points didn't even rise in rank (Virdia being the only ship that did). Claaravos cemented its position at #5, pushing Sorvus and Virrow to #6. Virdia rose from #10 to #9.

We can see that the margin of error changes are also quite small, with the only significant difference being that Claaravos is now essentially one vote away from being able to compete with Janaya for the third place.
