Day 17:  #mayvinylchallenge :  A Guilty Pleasure First off...I do not believe in guilty pleasures.  If you dig something, you dig something. Bump everyone who stands against it.  But in the spirit of it all, I picked a controversial album in sound and artwork that would be guilty to most, but a future art breakthrough to me: 🔺️ The Residents - The Third Reich n' Roll [1976] If you know anything about The Louisiana-bred, San Francisco grown collective known as the Residents, you would know that they stand out more than a bit.  From their eclectic style of music to their all-too-famous aesthetic of tuxedo-wearing eyeball characters, The Residents have a worldwide recognized.  Let's take a look back before that era, into one of their most controversial. Detailed by the artwork of a Nazi-clad Dick Clark, with various poses of Hitler himself in dance bliss, the album is an esoteric mix of 60s covers, sang under the Residents scope of thinking.  In addition, the recordings deconstruct the originals so much that the disorientation matches the blood red artwork itself. Comprised of two multi-track clusters entitled "Swastikas on Parade" and "Hitler Was a Vegetarian", with covers of "Land of a Thousand Dances", "96 Tears", "Hey Jude", "Wipe Out", and "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag" (featuring what is widely considered the first sample of a James Brown song), the album takes you down a path you didn't expect, with crazy vocals and usage of instruments like ARP synthesizers.  If Johnny Depp's portrayal of Hunter S. Thompson in "Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas" detailed a drug-fueled romp at early 70s Circus Circus as the Third Reich...then this album is clearly the soundtrack. Listen and be blown away or annoyed.  The choice is yours. okay margot i may have not seen a httyd property since i was in elementary school but. what is your favorite dragon and why. my favorite was whispering deaths i cannot remember why. i think i thought the name looked cool and that big ball with tail and lots of teeth was an ingenious dragon design the likes of which i had never seen before. also it was long and twirly yknow what i mean? moved like a ribbon

rumblehorns are really good imo can u believe they made a beetle a dragon. anyway it's really fascinating to think about how it can fly because their wings are pretty small for their size? as in thin length-wise. also the fact that they are tracker dragons makes me so crazy yesyeyseyses

hi baby.. the movements on these guys are so good like u can really see the parrot influence obviously one of the best parts is in httyd2 when stormfly starts nesting on eret fdjhdf also the fire!! the fact that it comes out in such a constant stream!! and ALSO just thinking about the logistics of how the tail works is so fascinating because i think they were going for a porcupine thing but porcupines cannot actually shoot their quills while nadders can so how do they do that and how do they regenerate so fast! my theory is they're made of some genre of keratin but that's not really fast-growing idk it's an enigma!

another really great one is scauldrons look at them literally

they're really funny to me because (a) they are SO thin it's unreal like where does all the flesh go when it's not being used to shoot water and (b) ok so we know water is really heavy right but we also know scauldrons can fly i'm not sure for how long but they definitely can do it um from what we have seen they're not the best at speed or maneuvering (obviously) but they compensate for that with their necks anyway what i mean to say if they are so heavy especially when they have the water in them HOW DO THEY FLY LIKE THAT!! THEIR WINGS ARE SO TEENY TINY HOW IS THAT SUSTAINABLE!!! also there is also the question of how they heat up the water that much but whatever!

i am so fascinated by them did you know their wings are so sharp they can cut trees with them. i love how thin their actual bodies are compared to their wings too.. also i think i'm not sure but i'm pretty sure timberjacks are somewhat related to typhoomerangs because they're built really similarly what with the thin body and the massive wing ratio

and ok yes i WILL talk about whispering deaths because they RULE! HELLO BEAUTIFUL!

the rotating teeth are really good like it makes sense ofc why they would be burrowing dragons (FASCINATED by how fast they can burrow btw) again the wing to body ratio fascinates me but it's whatever because they shoot RINGS OF FIRE!?

thoughts on the second episode of Hypmic Rhythm Anima lol (Spoilers beware)

saburo is so punctual with things like messages and timing. i love how his technologically geeky he is in comparison to Jiro’s more strait forward no nonsense way. Also theyre arguing again within the first few minutes of the ep lmaooooo they really are brothers I love it

the art change for the rap where its thicker outlines is really cool though I love it!! It’s reminiscent of the ARB style

Its also nice to see what they do in their free time. The show is really great at establishing the difference between Jiro and Suburo’s thought processes, but shows that they still understand each other on a fundamental level with Saburo taking the blather of descriptors that Jiro puts out into more technical terms. Its really nice to see that and even when they claim to hate each other, you can still tell that at the end of the day they’re family and they understand each other.

I don’t know much about irl ‘bukuro but the way that Ichiro describes it is incredibly poetic and beautiful. It pains quite a pretty picture so my hat goes off the the translator for doing such a wonderful job for the subs

I love how the space around them also changes great i think its really nice how they have a new rap each episode. This rap also flows so so so much better than the one in the first episode and the integration between the different styles is great! One of my biggest gripes of the first ep rap was that they couldn’t get Jiro and Saburo’s style to flow into a nice transition but here they executed it with a lot of flair and it was great!! the CG was also so much better that I don’t have very many nitpicks

I love the symbolism with the imagery. The rap is just so much better this time around. Saburo’s is my favorite especially with the psych out. its just so fun and hilarious!

And they’re back to wholesomely arguing. I love this family guys they’re adorable. And that callback to what was said at the end of the BB segment in the first episode was so cute! It’s a moment of domestic family bonds.

I didn’t say this in the first post, but the beginning of BB’s ending when they’re chanting reminds me of Haikyuu Engekibu’s version of Nekoma’s intro chant ahaha

Super cute! It really built on the characterization of the first episode and elaborated on it to make it fully realized and more dynamic. I have high hopes for the next episode if it follows a similar format to this one!

On ne sait plus quel avatar va prendre le pinceau, et quel autre l'escabeau. Le budget est serré et le format toujours le même le bon mètre carré étalon. Pas de style prédéfini donc, sinon celui de réaliser le tableau le meilleur. Glissement de l'art contemporain à un art populaire revendiqué aussi érudit. Le choix du sujet à représenter est un long processus de mémoire et d'étude. Un bâtard terrier que le grand frère avait ramené et vite lâché à la maison. Le chien déjà apparu sous le crayon et les pastels de Paul y sera identifié. Apollo était son nom comme la mission spatiale, il accompagnait là l'enfant. Une photographie de l'époque le couche sur le grand lit de la chambre verte. La définition de l'image est faible mais la mémoire aidera à la réalisation. Le couvre lit est rouge orné de motifs à fleurs blanches et branches vertes. Le dessin est en place, décalcomanie amie d'un artisanat de la reproduction. Un air de chien battu que le cabot n'était pas, plutôt joyeux même le canin. L'art du clébard, un clebs de tristesse, l'animal noyé dans un vert défoncé. S'enfuir du souvenir à grandes touches bleues et la chambre se prend la mer. L'hyperesthésie du poil de la bête oblige la touche à être simple et légère. Un murmure géant d'idées fausses, un aboiement plaintif de tant d'ignorance. Du jaune du japon qu'on sait d'ici, vient allumer la chambre verte et bleue. Contraptonyme sympathique, Le Franc nous ment effrontément de sa prédestiné. La fleur dit l'absence du bouquet. Des fils de marionnette partant d'Apollo. Le tableau renversé nous donne une forme canine dégoulinant l'étagère dorée. Rougir le fond de l'espace en nébuleuse où les images perdues se disloquent. Du bleu espace pour spatialiser la pièce où le spectacle du jour est annulé. L'étagère se casse la gueule dans un décor bancal, une fausse note évaporée. Le cadre auratique effacera livres et bibelots dans un halo sombre, la nuit.
