#cliche rant

Disclaimer: I’m about to go off on a geometric rant so idk. Also this a pro-Elriel post ✌🏼
But, I can’t help but feel like…
SJM solidified Elriel when she decided to write Nessian. Two sisters are with two brothers. The third brother not ending up with the third sister is like a puzzle missing it’s final piece. A disruption in the pattern deeply prevalent throughout the entire series. Three trials. Three mountains. Three Death Gods. Three feet to the Cauldron. Three is a number of fate. A holy number. A pattern. And tell me, does this match said pattern:
Two brothers and two sisters.
One brother and [insert red-head of choice].
It lacks balance. And, interestingly enough, we learn about a symbol of balance in HOSAB:
“A six-pointed star,” Ithan said […] “It is a symbol of balance,” She explained, moving away… “Two intersecting triangles, male and female, dark and light, above and below… and the power that lies in the place where they meet.”
Now back to the world of ACOTAR. Where can we find two interesting triangles [see: a set of three, three “points”]? The three Archeron sisters. And the three batboys.
Feyre and Rhys: The Leaders, or top of the Triangle. High Lady and High Lord. “Love me.” Night Triumphant and the Stars Eternal.
Nesta and Cassian: The Warriors, one side of the triangle’s base. Lady Death and the Lord of Bloodshed. “Touch me.” The General of the Illyrians and the Commander of the Valkyries.
Elain and Azriel: The Spys, the second side of the triangle’s base. The Seer and the Shadowsinger. “Sing me.” Death and the Lovely Fawn.
Together they are the foundation of the six-pointed star. They are a part of balance. An intersecting of power. Elain’s story is tied to her sisters. It’s tied to the third mountain. To the Night Court whose sigil is literally three stars. It’s tied to her transitioning from the trembling fawn to the fang beast. And her story, like both her sisters, is tied to a bat boy.
SJM made the bed with the three brothers x three sisters trope with Nessian. It only makes sense, or shall I say is rather obvious, that she will move forward and complete the pattern, achieving balance.
That’s all, your honor. I rest my case.

Because the characters not knowing who they can trust, and people believing Rhodey might be a Skrull didn't do that!?
If they thought Maria Hill dying was essential to the story? Fine. If Cobie Smulders wanted out? Fine. Why couldn't she just die in Episode 4 alongside Talos? And wouldn't a better death be for her to take a bullet for Fury and tell him to keep going while she dies in his arms? Yeah, I like Fury and Talos acting like they're married, too. But Maria's not some one-off, she's Fury's right hand woman and best friend! A position she's held since the first Avengers film. She deserved a much better death than what she was given.

BREAK MY HEART AGAIN ! sae x gn! reader. angst.
☆彡– the closest anyone will get to love from itoshi sae is heartbreak.
part 2 to ruin my plans! (feel free to assume what stage of dating they’re at, each level has a different impact.)
Tumblr media
itoshi sae despises messy breakups.
the negative feelings that accumulate throughout time are inevitable– he knows that– but then again, the very essence of his nature lies in destroying beautifully.
(you care about him too much for your own good. you make him feel too vividly. you have him wrapped completely around your little finger, and he loathes that.)
so he finds a way to efficiently detach himself– detach you from his little universe, before you can cause any irreversible damage to his heart.
sae knows that you’re much more perspective than you ever let on.
you know that he isn’t happy anymore.
he’s steadily slipping away from your grasp, and the distance only seems to increase no matter how much you try to close it.
late night talks over the phone morph into simple goodnights amidst the final glow of a busy day; and even the subtle warmth in his eyes (that he never admitted to having) freeze so suddenly that you wonder if it was all just in your imagination.
(it couldn’t have been. you still remember the ephemeral feeling of his lips on yours. the feeling of the softness in his eyes engulfing over you.)
itoshi sae had always been a cruel being, after all. the closest he will ever offer to love is heartbreak by his hands.
and akin to rain, the stray tears left long-forgotten eventually spill onto the ground.
“what happened to us?”
the silence over the phone leaves you with a heavy heart. the pain is hidden deep in your voice (deep enough that you think sae won’t notice).
of course he notices. he doesn’t think his attention has been off you ever since he met you.
the static fails to conceal his sigh, and even when you’re miles away you can see the exasperation in his expression.
“don’t you already know? i’ve lost interest in you.”
the distance between the two of you fall beyond infinity. the damage dealt was incorrigible– but really, you doubt sae’s ever truly cared.
a hum is all you can manage. numbness takes over your senses– the phone is still held over your ear, and the ringing echo ceases just enough for him to deliver the final blow.
“please don’t think about contacting me ever again.”
sae hangs up with a short beep, uncaring of the other things left unsaid by both you and him.
it’s funny. he should feel relief after having dealt with yet another obstacle in his life– but you’re the closest person he’s ever coming to loving before, and all he can process is the lingering press of your absence.
sae itoshi is a cruel being, after all. he’ll stop at nothing to attain his dreams.
(but what if he can’t imagine a future without you?)

Kim Dokja may have greatly exaggerated his moral greyness to mirror Yoo Joonghyuk from WoS.
Don’t get me wrong, KDJ can be a little sociopathic rat bastard, but I’m warming back up to him just thinking about how he was faking it til he made it by essentially cosplaying as his favorite novel man. Even down to the sociopathic rat bastard-ness.
Like you have to remember that KDJ is the most logical and stupid narrator around. And he’s often telling us what he wants us to hear.
There are so many moments (I’m particularly thinking of Journey to the West) where he’s like “I freed the enslaved race of people and gave them hope for a better future. I am the breaker of chains. For nefarious purposes of course, and it was self-serving because I actually only care about myself.”
Hm.
Right. Definitely. Whatever you say, babe.

It's so weird to me when some people shit on Rayllum because main boy x main girl is "cliche". Like yeah It's the most common thing with fictional couples but does it matter as long as It's good written? As I see it‚ cliches aren't bad as long as they are well done and these two are. I would rather have the main boy x main girl any day that a main randomly falling for someone at the end without development at all just to be "original" because I have seen it in some media and It's just… Ugh. I don't care about breaking a cliche I care about a good written relationship.

okay time for more time traveler vee/volo headcanons.
i was talking with my partner yesterday about this, and we came up with a pretty cool concept i think.
we know from volo's dialogue that he struck a "deal" of sorts with giratina. they both wanted to reach arceus in some way. giratina gave volo the ghost type plate as well as lent it's cooperation and power to him. in return, volo apparently "fed giratina power so that it could take on arceus" and "gave giratina the chance to claw open the space-time rift in order to drag arceus out of hiding". i particularly find the "feeding giratina power" bit interesting. i'm not entirely sure what that all entails, but i like to think that volo offered some of his "lifeforce" or his "soul" to giratina. think of a "deal with the devil" type situation... with giratina feeding off of volo in a sense.
which leads me to my next point. when the two had struck this "deal", volo's covered eye gained the ability to glow red (just the pupil). this was meant to serve as a mark and reminder of their deal... but now it's more like a curse. since neither volo or giratina had reached their intended goal, this glowing eye didn't go away. it's still a reminder to volo of his failure. a reminder of the deal he'd struck with this eldtrich entity...
volo's eye doesn't constantly glow. he's able to suppress it when in public as long as he's aware and has his "mask" up. he also tends to suppress it when he's alone as well, since the glowing of his eye serves as a horrible reminder of the things that haunt him in a metaphorical sense.
however, his eye will become harder to suppress when under stress, paranoia, anxiety etc. basically any high emotions will trigger it to glow, but strong negative emotions are almost a guarantee trigger for this.
his eye will also automatically glow when sensing the presence of giratina. he often has moments of paranoia where he feels as if it's watching him through reflective surfaces or standing right behind him. in the modern world where he currently resides, this feeling is typically in his head... however if giratina were to make it's presence known around volo, then he would not be able to stop his eye from glowing.
tl;dr this man can't have a moment of peace or relaxation, lest a reminder of his "fuckup-ery" makes itself known... and he really can't handle that reminder.

Sad to see how fast people turned away from "cringe culture is dead" and turned to "anything not canon compliant is bad and annoying"

one thing that the showrunners of rings of power did that made me so pleasantly surprised and relieved (and it was something that i didn’t even realized i was concerned about): is that that they were completely unapologetic about the themes they aimed to convey, even when they could be perceived as cliche. there was no ironic comment made after a heartfelt conversation, there was no fourth wall breaking after a long monologue about hope. there was absolutely no cynicism to it. one thing that makes me so tired in media is how common it is to underplay important moments because otherwise they would be too corny, everything needs to be self-aware, the audience needs to know that the writers also think that a heartfelt moment is ‘cringe’ when it goes on for to long, that, yes, the main character went on a full monologue about hope and love, but don’t worry guys! the comic relief character is about to mock this speech because how dare they be sentimental in a non ironic way? and it is such a breath of fresh air to see protagonists like galadriel, nori and elrond going on full monologue mode about their identity and their crisis with it, the importance of family, the search and belief in something bigger than they are, in the pursuit of the greater good and how it could be a treacherous road. i feel like this is such an integral part of tolkiens narrative, how all the themes of hope/despair, love/hate, war/peace, etc are laid out to the reader in a very honest and unapologetic way. jirt was deadass out there talking about the significance and the overwhelming power of friendship, how a real king can be recognized not only by his military knowledge, but by his ability to hope and to heal. THE WHOLE POINT OF THE HOBBIT WAS ‘THE REAL TREASURE WERE THE FRIENDS WE MADE ALONG THE WAY’. so yea, i love that the writers of the shows didn’t choose to go down the ironic route when approaching these themes

I am genuinely so tired of how everything is taken as a joke in media now. Everyone will always find a way to take something trying to be serious, whether that is to be heartfelt, inspiring, hopeful, or sad, cautionary, tragic, or even something made out of genuine rage and frustration, and turn it into a crude joke that gets laughed at for two seconds and then the whole thing gets ignored. The media of the 21st century, whether that be the tv shows, movies (ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY’RE ANIMATED), books and whatnot, has been turned into an endless and annoying streamline of jokes. Not to say that there isn’t stuff made in modern times that isn’t just this, or that you should NEVER have some humor in your work, but if there’s a serious moment that evokes strong senses of pathos in the audience, some group of douches shouldn’t ruin that by making a “lol random” joke about it.
