re: atmospheric river
look whenever people start using weather terms i've never heard before, i want to know if it's just the news media's endless need to escalate and sensationalize in order to get more views-
or if it's yet another dawning effect of climate crisis with its intensifying and increasingly extreme weather events becoming the new long-term standard, resetting what "normal" means yet again
i mean, "Atmospheric rivers that drench the West Coast are now rated on 1 to 5 scale like hurricanes" isn't exactly a reassuring thing to say okay
"bomb cyclone" isn't exactly a reassuring phrase okay
An ‘extreme and possible historic atmospheric river’ is battering California

People post Greece as an aesthetic whether it's our mythology or our beautiful islands. Now we need you more than ever. Our country is literally burning, we have no help, no resources and new fire fronts are developing each hour and heading towards villages. People and animals are in danger. The fires are not going out and it's windy. Please share this, spread awareness. Greece is always first to send help when other European countries are in need of help. Please share.

Good morning all!
These are screenshots from the continued action currently at the whitehouse where indigenous protectors and allies are urging Biden to divest from fossil fuels causing unchecked havoc on our suffering planet.
Many were arrested yesterday for SITTING outside the white house including elders and matriarchs. Bail is still needed. I will update w info when I have it but…
They are LIVE right now and we need eyes and ears on this bc of course mainstream media cannot be trusted to echo these voices.
Please watch and follow via @indigenousrising and @puebloactionalliance on IG.

Follow Resist Line 3 on Twitter.
[Image description: a Twitter thread by account Resist Line 3 @ResistLine3 saying:
#Line3 would be a disaster for life on our planet, all the way from the pipeline's source to its destination. Here's why.
At the source of Line 3 is the tar sands extraction industry in Alberta, Canada. Here, Canadian oil workers clear-cut ancient forests to get at the oil tar beneath. These forests are one of the best carbon sinks on the planet - but when they're gone, they're gone.
Once the trees are gone, all of the life-sustaining topsoil is then scraped off of the ground. Without it, nothing will grow here again. Beneath that soil is bitumen, what @Enbridge wants - the most impure form of oil on this Earth.
Bitumen is so impure that it needs to be mixed with many toxic chemicals to even get the tar out of it, thus creating massive pools of toxic liquids called tailing ponds. The ponds are so toxic that strobe lights and sound cannons need to be used to keep birds away.
Leaving the destroyed earth of northern Alberta behind, the diluted bitumen is sent through the Line 3 oil pipeline that goes south into North Dakota, crosses Minnesota, and eventually arrives in Superior, Wisconsin. But the journey is far from painless.
Since 2002, @Enbridge has reported 307 hazardous liquid incidents in its operations. On average, that's one toxic spill every 20 days, totaling 66,059 barrels of hazardous liquids. How many more spills can the land take before it's irreparably poisoned?
As a matter of fact, the old Line 3 was responsible for the largest inland oil spill in US history, back in 1991 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The existing #Line3 has already caused dozens of oil spills on treaty land. A bigger pipeline will just spill more.
And when construction is finished on the new Line 3, @Enbridge wants to abandon the old Line 3 to corrode away in the ground. Contaminants from the pipe will likely make their way into the soil, the water, and eventually all life in the surrounding area.
This tar, marked by ecocide at every point of its journey, eventually arrives in Superior, Wisconsin. From here, some of it will be shipped south towards Chicago, and some will go east towards Michigan. The Michigan-bound oil will eventually travel through the Great Lakes.
And if the pipeline in the Great Lakes ruptures (which pipelines always do eventually - especially old and corroded pipelines such as that one), it will contaminate the source of 84% of the fresh water on this continent. That’s water we depend on to drink. /end ID]

Line 3 update:
The line is now over 60 percent completed. If completed, we will have absolutely zero chance at fighting the climate crisis. It will be 100% inevitable, as it is not a matter of IF this pipeline will spill, but WHEN. There have been multiple frack outs in which Enbridge claims that the chemicals that were spilled were harmless, when in reality, they were toxic and resulted in the deaths of many animals.
Police are brutalizing water Protectors. Many water Protectors have been unlawfully arrested and when questioned about the reasoning for arresting these protesters, officers gave no clear answer. This directly goes against the Miranda Rights, in which it states that every person has the right to know why they are being arrested.
More and more police are being sent to camps set up by and for protesters. The more police that are sent, the more people get hurt. Dozens of indigenous women have gone missing, kidnapped by the police.
If you haven't already, I need you to go to stopline3.org and read about Line 3, then sign the petition. Get in contact with your reps. Tell everyone you know about this and ask your favorite creators to speak about this. If you are able, consider going to the front lines to help.
Some accounts to follow to keep as up to date as possible with what's going on are @ugrunna and @quiiroi on tik tok. Both @quiiroi's main and side accounts are post banned until the 30th, so please go follow their third account, @quiibunnie.
Creators fighting against Line 3 are being silenced and no main news sources are reporting on it, so we need to do everything we can to fight this
Edit: this post is from July 30th so some of this info is outdated. For more up-to-date info pls go look at more recent posts on my blog and go follow the creators linked above as well as @tblubear and @giiwedinindizhinikaaz

Time is running out, but we aren't backing down.
The destruction caused by Line 3 of our waters and wetlands, like climate change, isn’t coming. It’s already here. Yet, our government is doing nothing about it.
Right now in Minnesota, Enbridge is preparing to announce—in roughly a week’s time—plans to fill the expanded Line 3 tar sands pipeline. In as soon as three weeks, oil will likely be flowing through our precious wetlands—threatening the very way of life of our people. Enbridge is already causing ongoing destruction from a hurried and reckless pipeline construction. Water protectors keep documenting new, unremediated spills of drilling fluid in our rivers and wild rice territory. Enbridge has even already been fined $3.2 million for damaging an aquifer.
One local said it perfectly - "It's going to spill.” And on the days it doesn't spill, the tar sands oil will add 50 coal plants worth of climate damaging carbon to the atmosphere.
Time may be running out, but we’re not backing down. At any time Biden can order the Army Corps of Engineers to conduct a full environmental review, including an Environmental Impact Statement that takes into account treaty rights and climate. Together, we are reminding the President of the promises he made that got him elected. Why? Because he can’t just destroy the Ojibwe people, while claiming to want to “Build Back Better.”
That’s why I am asking you to join me, water protectors, and leaders all over the U.S. — from Tribal governments including tribal leaders like those of the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council, to state legislators and members of Congress (not to mention hundreds of community, environmental and racial justice organizations joining our movement) — to stop this dirty pipeline for good.
Join us in calling on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to complete a full Environmental Impact Statement before the pipeline is allowed to operate. Join us in calling on the Biden Administration to order the same review that the Trump administration skipped. Join us in demanding that Minnesota's statewide leaders like Governor Walz, Senators Smith, Klobuchar and others, call on them to do it.
Help us hold Enbridge accountable for failing our communities, environment, and indigenous rights.
The truth is, there are endless reasons to review Line 3 and this movement has been speaking up about every one of them.
But only one reason really matters — it’s dead wrong. Why? It violates every ounce of common sense. It is injustice, hypocrisy, and exploitation at its finest.
Many thousands of us have already asked President Biden to direct the Army Corps to pause Line 3 pending proper environmental review and consultation
Tell him again:
The President is most likely to act if Minnesota's key state leaders--especially Governor Wal, who bears direct responsibility for this disastrous project--call on his to do so.
So tweet Gov Tim Walz today. Then take the next step and contact your Senator, telling them to join the many other Senators that are speaking out. Don’t back down. We can’t and won’t stop until they stop Line 3.

"By waving off the potency of individual action, the climate movement will simply substitute one blind spot for another. A fixation on system change alone opens the door to a kind of cynical self-absolution that divorces personal commitment from political belief. This is its own kind of false consciousness, one that threatens to create a cheapened climate politics incommensurate with this urgent moment."
