PSA on second hand shopping

more people need to shop at thrift stores, rummage sales, estate sales, consignment, flea markets, and the like. I don't care if you can afford new stuff, if you think it's dirty, if you don't feel like spending the time sifting through things you don't want. fast fashion and other quick moving industries are killing us.

so many thrift shops are begging people to buy more, and they have to stop taking donations for a while. a lot of rummage sale sellers will throw out what they don't sell by the end of the weekend, and they can negotiate and give you deals..

even if you don't want clothes, chances are you will find something you needed anyways, or find something you didn't know you needed. I promise you can find time in your hurried schedule to make a weekend out of rummage saling, and it's so much more fun then taking a minute to add a new shirt to your cart on amazon.

and while you're at it, set up a rummage sale of your own if you can, even in favor of listing it online. there's people in your community who will take a weekend to check it out, and those people are often in need of cheaper options for things like clothes, shoes, kitchenware, etc.

and please for the love of god if am item is still in working condition, use it as long as possible, or give it/sell it away if you must. do not throw away perfectly good items.

Blue Dog. The building next door has clumps of vegetation growing out of the brickwork. Perfect weather for wall ferns. Sydney had 300mm+ of rain over a few days last week with bad flooding in the major river basins temporarily displacing 70,000 folks from their homes, but most of them are still standing. The clean-up relief money is on the way. It's created a huge amount of landfill and the city's Northern Beaches are littered with flood debris - again. The Inner West went largely unscathed as the Cooks River held. Don't start telling me something's not going on. Newtown.

sometimes i see pictures of places I used to live taken when i used to live there and get all I Miss You...... but babe i was a child and MISERABLE

#this is about hashtag lisbon mostly but also porto #i miss you (no i dont)(three bedroom apartment)(13 people sharing)(height of summer) #but also(basil in all the windowsills to stop the flies)(sleeping in a pile next to all my siblings) #(going to the park with the weeping willows and my mom giving us all 1 chupachup)(feeling like a person again after a year at Real School) #(the texture of tiles on the wall)(the murals)(the graffiti)(the river)(sat in a shop and the shopkeep telling me about ceramics in broken #english)(her helping me draw patterns & letting me mix a blue glaze)(the colour of the river and sky)(the heat radiating off the pavement) #(my siblings laugh)(the feeling of being surrounded in a language you barely speak and then understanding something) #(the feeling of joy of having someone try to understand you)(the freckles on my arms)(being told i look like my aunt) #(pretending to drive the hello kitty car in the mall until they stopped letting people go inside it)(many more such memories) #(and it aches) #but i dont miss it (only when i buy basil)(it doesnt grow in this climate)(our house now smells like rosemary) #(and those kids dont call me sister anymore)
