Bad Batch S2 Spoilers!!
this post will contain bbs2 spoilers I am warning you now
“you know what makes us different from battle droids? We make our own decisions. Our own choices. And we have to live with them too.” - Commander Cody
this quote broke me into pieces
I really do believe that Cody regrets being the one to call out the order after Palpatine gave it to him, or at least feels some kind of guilt, he seems to show a lot of emotions in the few scenes I have seen him in so far in TBBs2

I really like the specific niche of star wars fans that are just obsessed with clones (like myself) bc I swear, we are the most avoidant group of ppl the galaxy has ever fcking met.
what do you mean Hardcase died on Umbara? he looks fine to me?
Fives? Died? girl when? last I remember he was choking the life out of chancellor palpatine
Waxer, dead because of Krell? not if you don't look at it he's not
Domino Squad? ALIVE AND BREATHING, THANK YOU!!
Ponds? killed by a bounty hunter? I'd like to see her try, Mace would kill her
99 will never die, fight me
Tup? are u crazy, I saw him yesterday, we hugged it out
THE ENTIRE 332 COMPANY? We are literally having drinks with them right now, what are you on about?
Jesse has never hurt a soul in his life, he is the goodest boy in blue, he would never raise a pistol to Ahsoka, stop talking okay??
Cody? kill obi wan? someone's been drinking the funny juice huh?
order 66 who? never heard of her, leave me alone, no I mean it. go away. stop. STOP, LEAVE!!

Sometimes. I forget. Just how symbolic some of these clones’ names are.
Dogma? We was dogmatic. He was aggressive and arrogant when it came to following Jedi Krell.
Omega? Several different meanings: gentle and to be a peacemaker or final part. Either meaning fits. Considering the information that the scientists on Mount Tantiss need Nala Se to cooperate and the only way to do that is to capture Omega.
Crosshair, Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, Echo, and Fives (and some others) are easier to connect. But it make sense for them to be a little more obvious, especially (and personally) with Echo.
Echo not only repeated back orders like a parrot but he’s the last of the Domino squad. Their last voice of hope. When he joins Rex, he’s not just fighting for the whole of the clones but for Cutup, Droidbait, Hevy, (and Fives even if he doesn’t realize he’s dead).
Commander Mayday, is another one of the obvious names. Left to defend a withering outpost with zero help that he’d requested. A distress signal that was never answered.
Rex, too. It’s origin is Latin meaning “king”. And it fits perfectly for him. Obviously a leader for the 501st troopers but even after order 66, getting his chip removed with the help of Ahsoka, he becomes this sort of new leader, helping the galaxy as he once knew it to be free of tyranny.
Feel free to reblog and add on to this list. I’m sure this has been done before and this is all more apparent to some of you but forgive and humor me, yeah? These clones are special to us and each of them were special to each other. It’s really fascinating to think about. We give family members, friends, crushes, etc nicknames for reasons that are good, bad, funny, and random. It’s neat alright?

hang on I have to rant
if you're not already aware, the five-man band is a literary device used to classify teams of 5 characters. it's what I call an external trope, meaning that you fit the trope to the characters, they don't innately have it.
a:tla has a pretty solid one, and it's well known enough, so I'm gonna use it to show you what I mean
it is comprised of:
the Leader, who directs the group and is usually the main character (aang)
the Lancer, who serves as character foil to the Leader and is often a bad-guy-turned-good or rogue element (zuko)
the Big Guy, who solves physical problems for the team and is frequently a goofball (toph)
the Smart Guy, who solves technical/logistical problems for the team and typically serves as an "idea guy" (sokka)
and the Heart, who solves emotional problems for the team- if there's only one girl, she's probably the Heart (katara)
there are three star wars groups I want to look at: delta squad, domino squad, and clone force 99.
first is domino squad, as they fit this trope the easiest.
fives is the Leader, the most strategizing one in the group
droidbait is the Lancer, far less cautious and more prone to injury than the others (the foil to fives' effectiveness)
hevy is the Big Guy, serving the oh-so-common "big gun demolitions expert" variant
echo is the Smart Guy, in the "guys, come on, stick to the PLAN" variant
cutup is the Heart, lightening the mood with jokes (hence the name)
the first to die is droidbait, leaving echo to serve as fives' foil, which allows us to see that fives is probably the most prototypical clone of the bunch. then hevy sacrifices himself, and cutup gets eaten, leaving only fives and echo until the Citadel arc which I haven't yet seen.
then we have delta squad. the thing about delta squad is that there are four of them, and while the four-man band is a thing, they make this perfect incomplete five-man band that I think is really really tasty.
boss (player character) is the Leader, guiding the team
sev is the Lancer, playing the "snarky rogue" archetype
scorch is the Big Guy, again the "big gun demolitions" variant- but with the added flavor of being very by-the-book (which we see the consequences of when he aligns with not only the empire but doctor hemlock himself in tbb)
fixer is the Smart Guy, tech expert
notice anything?
there's no Heart.
and that works. these are clone commandos- meant to be the most effective troops the republic has. they almost never interact socially outside of their squad, and when they do it's kept pretty professional.
we see that again in clone force 99, or as they call themselves, the bad batch
hunter is the Leader, his enhanced senses leaving him the most generalist of the batch (and also he's technically their sergeant)
crosshair is the Lancer, a "silent, ruthless efficiency" type
wrecker is the Big Guy, "big gun demolitions" variant yet again (I told you it was common) in the goofball flavor
tech is the Smart Guy, btw he's really well done and it never feels like he just "knows because he's smart" you can always tell how he figures things out
again, there's no Heart. but wait.
in the Bad Batch arc in clone wars, they pick up another member- echo. we don't see much of echo's interaction with the batch in that arc, but when we come back, echo is solidly in a sort of almost-but-not-quite Heart role. and then.
omega shows up in the "sixth ranger" role, there to shake up the group dynamic. throughout season one, we see omega slowly take over echo's role as Heart- and as this happens, it becomes clear that that was the role he was playing, as he talks hunter through how to best take care of omega. but omega, tagalong kid as she is, is much, much more suited to the Heart role than echo, and she takes his place- which allows echo to run off and have his own adventures with rex throughout seasons two and three, WHICH WORKS because echo is a regular clone who joined the batch later in life and thus isn't quite the same as the others, but omega is a deviant clone just like them!

What your favourite Clone Legion says about you!
A few common tropes that I’ve noticed in people, depending on which squad they love the most. Let me know if they’re accurate!
501st - An OG bitch. You're both thirsty, and hydrated. You probably have some form of trauma, and you cope using humour, not that that's a bad thing. The life of the party. Star Wars is probably in your top 10 interests of all time. You're not afraid to speak the truth, but you know when to hold your tongue. A good egg.
212th - Either you ship Codywan, or you're in love with either Waxer or Boil. You're a little bit old school, play by the book, but know when/where to have a laugh. Loved by many. Approachable. Laid back and easy to talk to. Your style is fun, bright, and sometimes excentric. Overall, a pleasant being.
104th - Daddy issues. Or issues of some kind. You need a hug, but only on your own terms. A big fan of the found family trope. Probably introverted, but you have a good sense of humour, and you're approachable. Funny, sarcastic, but also loving, kind, and loyal without a fault.
327th - On the sidelines. Do people seem to forget about you? That's okay. You have a small circle, a best friend or two, and you prefer that over a large crowd. It takes a while for your true colours to come out, but when they do, they shine like no other. Very hospitable. A hidden gem.
Coruscant Guards - Tired. Seriously, quit chugging coffee, and go and have a nap! You probably own a dog, or ten. You refuse to fit into social standards, and you're weird in some way. Coloured hair, perhaps? Always approachable, friendly, down to earth, but if anyone pushes your buttons, then they better run. Fast.
The Bad Batch - Horny. Tired. Deprived. You cling onto nostalgia. Hyperfixations are your main source of joy. You're loyal, like really fucking loyal, and stubborn at times. Nobody is changing your mind, not without solid reason. Found family enthusiast, but let's not make it cheesy. Could do with a nap.
Delta Squad - Fandom old™, but still keeping it real. The true OG. When you commit to something, you stick to it, even if it takes you years to complete due to procrastination. Down to earth. Fun and friendly, but not in a cheesy/faux way. A small and close-knit social circle. You know your shit, and you're proud to flex it.

I keep working on The Bad Batch stuff and Echo's in the spotlight today. The boys and Omega are just so fun to play together 🥹🥹🥹. I highly recommend getting Parenthood GP to get the most of it 🤗

A basic sheet of the different dynamics the squads have within each other :)
All of them are aware/familiar with each other, but there's other specific relationships I wanted to touch up on.
You can find more information on the Silly Squad/Baddies Batch here!
More details underneath the cut!
Dating:
Tumblr media
Hunter and Jung are in a queer platonic relationship! They don't do much more than kisses/hugging (they joke that they sleep together <- they just share a bed)
Khea and Tay hooked up once several years before meeting the Batch and Crosshair always acts offended over it because he cannot believe his boyfriend's taste in women
BFFS/Partners in Crime:
Tumblr media
Omega, Phee, and Khea are always getting up to shit together (sometimes it's all three of them, sometimes it's just Omega and Phee, and sometimes it's Phee and Khea)
Khea and Echo are BFFs - he's the only one outside of Wrecker that Khea trusts with her life and secrets
Despite the fact that Tay once hooked up with his gf, Wrecker and Tay are bros, himbos stick together
Wrecker is also BFFs with Viram because she's nice and bakes while Crosshair is BFFs with her because they love to talk shit and because she's the only medic he really trusts
Mentors/Chisme 친구 (Gossip Friends):
Tumblr media
Khea, Phee, and Jung are all mentors to Omega (outside of Hunter) for various, vastly different things - Jung helps Omega with meditation/Force stuff, Phee helps Omega improve her gambling/swindling craft, and Khea trains Omega like a Foundling
Chisme 친구 are just dynamics in which the two love interacting to just gossip and talk about everyone else/other people
Tay and Hunter usually talk shit (lovingly) about Crosshair
Echo and Jung usually talk shit (lovingly) about Hunter but also talk a lot about the Clone Wars and how that was for them
Crosshair and Omega talk shit about everyone
Tech and Viram constantly judge everyone (they're the smartests of the squad) and will jokingly dismiss themselves from conversations to have "higher level discussions" amongst the two of them (only for Wrecker to call them nerds right after)
Friendly Rivals/Love/Hate:
Tumblr media
Usually the rivalries are one sided - and they're all in good fun, there's no real beef (even if Phee exasperates Hunter and stresses him out)
Technically Tay has a friendly rivalry with everyone, but that's because he's a competitive piece of shit
Phee has rivalry with Tay because she wants to be the 'coolest' Aunt to Omega
Hunter has beef with Phee because he wants to be the "cool" parent figure to Omega
Crosshair has beef with Khea because their personalities clash and he's a little bitter about her getting with Tay (even if Tay wasn't even with him at that point) but he'll never admit to that
Love/Hate just means they have a teasing relationship and outsiders can't really tell if they love or hate each other
Tech and Khea will get into verbal arguments sometimes and become incredibly passive aggressive to each other whenever they disagree to refuse to admit they were wrong about something while the other was right, but they'll usually come back around
Khea is like an annoying little sister to Hunter and is constantly teasing him
Even though Tay and Crosshair are dating, outsiders can't tell if Crosshair actually likes Tay or not - he does, he just never shows it when others are around

Echo after getting his new hand: Thanks for the hand.
Fives in Clone Heaven: That’s my twin brother!
The rest of Domino Squad: Chaotic cheering for Echo to take down Hemlock.
99: Happy tears knowing Echo is about to kick everyone’s asses.

Thinking about how Echo and Fives wanted to be assigned to another squad.
And everyone was always writing domino squad off, saying they'd end up on maintenance like 99.
What if instead of keeping domino squad together, Shaak Ti agreed to their request and assigned Echo and Fives to the bad batch as their new squad?
Or the other way around, Echo and Fives joining a "competent" squad and Hevy, Cutup, and Droidbait being left behind and stuck in with the other clones who weren't up to spec?
Maybe the trainers just write all of domino squad off as defective, and stick all nine of them together.
It's especially interesting if it happens when they're younger, before domino's graduation trial, so that they all spend more time in training together.
Like. Imagine how the batch would respond to new members added to the squad. Clones that look like regs, but are treated like they're "defective" in the same way. The batch resents them for being able to "pass" for regs and not being treated like somethinhg "other" for their whole lives; while the members of domino don't have any enhancements or advantages, so they have an inferiority complex even compared to the bad batch.
There would be a lot of clashing of personalities, regarless of whether it's all of domino squad or just two or three of them added to the batch. Hunter and Hevy would butt heads because they're both used to being in charge and taking point. Echo and Tech would quote regulations at one another whenever one of them tries to get away with something, and Echo would get protective whenever Tech quotes regulation at Fives. Grim, surly Crosshair would get annoyed by Cutup always cracking jokes. (Wrecker and Droidbait might actually get on fairly well.)
They'll pull together eventually, of course, but it'll take time for them to understand each other. In the end, they become a tight-knit group, very protective of each other.
And if it were Hevy, Cutup, and Droidbait added to the batch because they were left behind, there would be so much potential for angst, feeling abandoned by their former squadmates but not fitting in with their new squad. They'd probably shut everyone else out and stick together, just the three of them, and it would take time for them to open up to their new squadmates.
Does their relationship with their former squadmates improve once Clone Force 99 joins the war and Echo and Fives return for ARC training, and they realize how similarly they operate?
Maybe they start to forgive each other and work together a lot. Maybe CF99 goes rogue on a mission to rescue their regs' batchmate much earlier than in canon. Maybe Fives goes to them when he starts investigating the chips.
(Maybe the whole galaxy is saved because some sub-par regs got thrown in with the defective clones.)
